Greg Mort Open Studio BEYOND MY WINDOW
GREG MORT will welcome visitors to  BEYOND MY WINDOW - Open Studio August 3rd & 4th, 2024, 10 am to 5 pm Fieldstone Castle 129 Marshall Pt Lighthouse Rd  Port Clyde, Maine. He will present an Artist Talk: Saturday 1:PM. GregMort.com 207-372-8658
Greg Mort is an internationally recognized American contemporary artist whose unmistakably modern creations have the classic feel of the Dutch Masters juxtaposed with startlingly modern designs. His signature images combine his passions for art, science and nature.
Mort’s 2024 summer open studio titled BEYOND MY WINDOW is unique as he is sharing his lifelong fascination with illuminated multimedia 3D art creations. The primary focus of this limited collection of only twelve multimedia collage constructions is an original watercolor painting presented or “viewed” from the interior standpoint of a room via the perspective of a window.
Mort’s artwork is in many prominent collections including the Smithsonian, National Gallery of Art, Boston Museum of Science, Delaware Art Museum, Farnsworth Museum, Academy Art Museum, Portland Museum of Art, Brandywine River Museum and the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. His works have been selected for many public space venues. He has been honored to participate in the United States Department of State’s Art in Embassies program. Mort strongly believes in the ideals of cultural diplomacy and recently had paintings displayed at The White House as part of this program. Mort’s artwork has been exhibited in over one hundred museum and gallery shows around the world. Recent museum shows include “Lunar Attractions” at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA and “Starry Skies of Art” at the Serlachius Museum in Mänttä, Finland and The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore Maryland.
Deeply fascinated with astronomy and the universe Mort’s life-long interest in science is frequently reflected in his artwork. He has been
a commissioned NASA artist since 1983 and serves on the board of the Lowell Observatory. In 2010 his painting “ZERO-G Apples” was one of six paintings juried into “The First Art Show in Space” aboard the International Space Station. A skilled astro-photographer and telescope builder Mort is a sought-after speaker on the intersection of art and science.
Throughout his career Mort has recognized the power of imagery and used his art to share his passion of promoting environmental awareness. In 2007 he established The Art of Stewardship Project, his family foundation that supports and inspires ecological consciousness through the arts. The Art of Stewardship Project works with arts and educational organizations to build partnerships and collaborations reinforcing the artist’s role in preserving our fragile Earth. Leading
by example Mort is a Clinton Global Initiative Partner offering his artwork to support the goals of Circle of Blue the international educational organization focused on preserving the Earths fresh water.
Mort is a self-taught artist, passionate amateur astronomer and enthusiastic competitive archer. During the winter he lives and paints in rural Montgomery County Maryland and in summer on the rugged Maine coast in the fishing village of Port Clyde.
More information about the BEYOND MY WINDOW open studio can be found at GregMort.com or 207-372-8658.

Lynne Flemons - Bio for group exhibition proposal
Lynne Flemons is a Canberra based artist who spent much of her life in regional and outback NSW. She has an interest in cultural and natural landscapes and land use practices.
Lynne has a BA (Visual) and returned to complete her studies at ANU attaining a MPhil (Visual) in 2016.
In her art practice Lynne draws and paints specific places that have personal and cultural significance. Her paintings are further developed in her studio at M16 Artspace in Griffith.
Recent solo exhibitions include Pink trees and lilac clouds at Zinc Contemporary, Seattle and Painting the Walk at Weswal Gallery, Tamworth. Lynne has been Artist-in-Residence at Serlachius Museum, Finland, Ballinglen Art Foundation, Ireland and many other locations including Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery, Tasmania. Her work is held in public and private collections both in Australia and internationally.

So during the week-end we went also to Serlachius museums.
they had some videoart and photography that was maybe important for their makers but as I have nothing good to say about Brotherus et al it is better to just warn people that you will never get that time back of your one-time existence.
But Salvador Dali was great! Never knew extent of his ink works. Dali’s gala was pretty nice:

And they had take a Dali selfie so naturally:
Tumblr media
but the real true meat was conceptual  project , It’s About Time  by belgian Koen Vanmechelen that had among others live chicken and roosters and hairy pigs.
And his multiethnic workings of Medusa....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See the peacock bodied glass skulled creatures in a circle behind there? Part of building a new alien(among other things breeding live chicken) as the beast never dies it just remains dormant in us all.
His T-Rex was really nice too
Tumblr media
So it is a bronze chicken leg? Yes, yess it is. Why did you like it? Well I think you fail to see the size and positioning of it...
Tumblr media
yeah
bow down to our future  chicken overlords

There was plenty of old masters too and in the Pleasure exhibition (did not quite live up to it’s name sadly) there was interactive fun to be had too.  In form of make-your-own-still-life with flowers and greenery and all things bright.
So we did one each.

(no, they did NOT have a real knife in the museum. I did as I do anyhow anywhere)
But those are heartily recommended if for some reason one goes to those museums

On my itinerary through the North i have noticed people here are closer to each other in a sensual way. The closeness of the water, sauna and long winters, make people surprisingly easy with their bodies. These illustrations are my glimpses to people i met by the sea, by the lake or in sauna. It is about touch, intimacy and trust.
