Ozzy Statements Episode 10: Red

Statement of Ash Gandy regarding the aptly named Death House. Original statement given January 9th 2024. Statement recorded by Ozzy, The Archivist.

Statement begins.

Alrite so I'm not too smart innit, and I don't write thhat much, so my hand righting migt be a bit - what's the word - oh! Messy.

Anywaey, as soon as I turnt 16 I dropped outta school. Grades were iffy, beleeve it or not I got 9 U’s. Mum n Dad screamded at me, but all da words danced like ballet on those pages, it wasn't my fawlt! Now im 21 and their kickin me outta home, im sad. Like reaaally sad. Super sad. I was homesless for a bit, but then I had a big spark in my memery! 

Basickly when I was abowt 5, my brother Hiko went and stayed in a big big house, I never sawed him again so I thought mayby he was hapy there. So at dis moment I was leik “I wanna smile! Imma go to Hiko”. I sorta membered where it was from when the big police guys came too the door. They said he was “missing” wich was confoosing cause they said he was lasst seen at that house. Like he's just in the house sillies. They said they surched it, but he musta been under a bed or somefink!

Anyway, I went over to the big house, and it WAS soooo big! Plus above the door there wos a big flashy sign and it saided “Death House” so I thought “Oh! He just lost his heering and wonted a specialisist for deaf peeple.” I thought they're might be docters in thair, an their ushally pritty kind, I was shore I'd get a place to sleap they're.

I hurted my toe on a floor stone on the way in, and tripped a littly bit, but I evenchualy pushd opened the doore. It was - what was da big word agen? Oh right! - “massivr”! For sum reason, I feeled real angry all of sudden as if deaf people had killed my cat or someing. Recepshonist lady smiled at me, said thay ecspected me. I fought maybe Hiko had seen me come in! Da lady was in a big fish bowl thing, like a big dome for some reeson. Looked strong, effecktive.

I'd seen sum peeple doin weird shapes with there hands befoar to deaf guys, and recepshonist woman had biiig hands, maybe they muscly after doin shapes!

She pointed at room and I followed, door said “Death Room”, so I guessd that was were Hiko was if he had bad ears. In it tho wos a long ttable, wiv a hole bunch of otherers. Musta been like a dozen. Ackchually how much is a dozen? 5 right? Well da peeple in Death Room were more than that, like at least 20. All ov em sat seriously, wiv frowny eyes. Kinda scarary.

Sumone told me too sit down, so I did. Gotta say didnt look deaf, felt leik they were waching and lisning to me at the same time! Bloodthirsty. Herd that word in a flim one time, defanately applys here. Then suddenenly they're was a click, and my brane went weird. I wasnt scaered of them an more, and I felt… good! Reelly good! Strong.

There eyes shoned red and boom, loud noises as evryone jumpsed onto eachother! Fists, punchs, hair pulld [At this point in the text, the writing suddenly switches to a very distinct neat, intellectual script. The ink also seems to switch to what appears to be blood] and someone lunged at me, but the beast inside of my soul reacted, pouncing swiftly behind him and quickly snapping his neck. Beautiful dark crimson nectar started to cover the walls and pool on the ground. Where once there was depressing white, there was now a ruthless void of delicious savagery. And still the warmongering monsters inside us possessed our flesh to smash and destroy and maim. Teeth shattered, joints crunched, organs squelched, and unearthly torrents of blood took their place, as if every stray atom in the expanse of the universe had coalesced down into this one fight, to contribute dividends of gore to this horrific and visceral occurrence.

And then there were two, and I had a smile on my face - coated in layers of crimson. For the first time in my life, I felt successful, impressive, superior, and with a smooth, sleek movement I grabbed a fistful of his hair and whipped his head harshly downwards. His skull collapsed against the hard floor as the flesh of his face burst wetly, chunks projected limply amongst the debris. My boot lifted up, and I stomped against the back of the scalp, more of his skull crunching beneath me, and more of his visage exploding outwards like a firework of butchery. I lifted him once more and held the bloomed and bloody flower of his head aloft in victory, like an athlete raising a trophy.

Then, there was a click and [The handwriting reverts here, back to its previous form, but arguably even more messy] th doore opend. I was frosen thouh! I lookd arownd me nd wow. So red. I did that, I did the red. All of it. All of the red. You gota undastand, I didna meen it!

Never fownd Heeko, ran owt door, no look backs. I think in one of th rumes he's red, he's part of the red maybe. I dknow why I suvived! Its bad I did I fink, cos someimes I heeer clicks an I feel relly angry, theirs been moor red, lodes mre red, al red, bt [the writing becomes wholely illegible at this point, until the very end] and sometmes I now it loves me, an it knows th feelings mutual.

People complaining about Tsukasa5 already are pissing me off, because like, it's so unbelievably obvious what this event is trying to do and the fact that people are so hung up on "urgh dur tsukasa strong why can't he do a wall climb".

Like, first of all, a lot of Tsukasa's strength has been used as comedy before and also it's never been said that Tsukasa could specifically do a wall climb before so people calling this a retcon or a stretch is really dumb to me.

Sure we can make jokes about it, but this is not like a serious writing problem or anything.

Also are we just gonna ignore the fact this event is literally just a reference to his 3rd event in a silly trenchcoat. Or the fact that this is obviously meant to be WxS's downtime and training arc to prepare them to face the loose plotpoints in the future?

His inner dialogue when chasing the ninja is very clearly a reference to the whole Pheonix thing, how he can't reach it no matter how hard he tries.

The wall climb is like an extremely fucking on the nose metaphor to him climbing over his issues as an actor.

THERE IS ALSO THE WHOLE THING THAT HINTS THAT TSUKASA CAN ONLY OVERCOME HIS PROBLEMS IF HE HAS HELP FROM OTHERS (AKA tsukasa would've literally BEEN INJURED, if it wasn't for the fact the troupe's leader was there).

In fact this literally followed an event aka Tsukasa 4 where he FAILED to do his role correctly.

It's almost like this event is meant to be a transition point between Tsukasa 4 and 6, where Tsukasa builds up the knwoledge on how to face his problems.

But no this is just mid event because it's very silly and "wow plot is stupid why can't tsukasa wall climb".

WxS fans are slowly just turning into VBS fans in terms of how whiney they're being i swear

Always see hcs about Will drinking coffee, and I hadn't really seen any discuss how that effect him.

I've seen few mention him having multiple a day, which is gonna effect him seriously even more then just one. With his adhd it might effect him differently, though that can very as caffeine effects people with adhd differently.

But, from my own experience and what I've read online from others, he's gonna be able to focus more, cause the caffeine is assisting with stimulating his brain enough to not be constantly searching for something to do so.

But it also comes with the fact it's more likely to also increase heart rate and anxiety especially. Which already pretty bad for a kid that seems to be internally very full of anxiety.

There's also the crash, from what I've seen the crash after adhd can be worse then with others. The effects don't last as long and we crash hard, seen one mention that's what the sleepy effect some get is, us crashing from the caffeine high. Especially with dehydration from the caffeine.

So it's interesting idea of Will, the camp medic, being practically addicted to caffeine. There's multiple stories of Will not taking care of himself as much as he pushes others to take care of themselves, him using something that might have negative effects on him to help him focus on his duties be cool way to explore that hc i think.

Especially given how adhd meds are treated in pjo...(which i mixed feelings on but that's another thing hdgd)

Like,I had coffee the other day, i can't remember how it effected me completely other than my gods I felt like my chest was gonna explode.

That being said i also have unknown heart issues so probably could be that gdgd

I also just think in general that adhd stuff should be explored more. Like give me character going into a room and just blue screening for a moment as they try to remember why they went there, only to do something else other than what they went there to do.

Or forgetting where the put some they just had, or realizing they hadn't seen a certain thing in awhile so they go on a search to find it even though they don't need it in that moment(very funny image of Nico going into the infirmary late at night just to find Will searching for a certain clipboard or something he hadn't seen in a bit-)

Demigods having to help eachother remember dates or certain health and hygiene things or else they'd forget(any demigod needing nightly meds gets them during the camp fire together so they all can keep up is a funny image as well gdgdg)

Just random things that happen when the camp is run by bunch of adhd teens,a god who use to be a demigod so adhd might be on the table still- and a centaur.

Either everything's getting done or nothings getting done depending on the day gdgdf

Discovering the whump community on here is actually one of the best things that has happened for my professional writing career. It gave me the confidence to lean more into the whumpy aspects of my work and helped me understand what I wanted out of my writing better.

Thank you so much AAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I'm so glad people are enjoying the upgraded designs for N and V... even though I still need to put together the full reference sheet for upgraded N because I'm retooling some minor details in the design because I wasn't happy with how they were working (the Perfectionists Curse has harmed me once more lol).

And really that's just the tip of the iceberg on ideas I'm cooking - I know there's the beginnings of a crow-based deviant solver form for Uzi kicking around somewhere on my blog, and I have ideas for upgraded J, other unique designs for workers and disassemblers, an entire new evolution of weird Solver space majyks based on flowers and fungus as well as flesh, bone, and metal (kind of aiming for a "new life blooming from rot and gore"-type vibe/aspect with that one), and so much more... when I said I was going to get weird with building on the lore of the silly robot show, I absolutely meant it.

I just hope y'all have as much fun getting to see what I create as I have in bringing it to life.

Anyone remember when winged aus were a big thing or was that just big in the areas I was in dhdh

Like,not any specific species or anything,just characters with wings.

Sometimes whole society had the wings,sometimes it was few people who did and usually had to hide it etc

I remember rping that au a lot too.

Think should bring it back...mainly cause I like seeing characters drawn with wings dhdh

a thought has occurred to me: the Seven Shus in HI3rd Part 2 would make a perfect D&D group!

In both ways too: the Seven Shus as characters in a D&D campaign, but also the Seven Shus just chilling at Thelema's mansion or smth playing D&D (as unlikely as it would be in canon, I imagine it'd make for a killer fanfic lol)

i was thinking about this because of the recent Thelema web event, and this morning I watched a video talking about fantasy taverns (largely in a historical context, then swtiching to a D&D context). and one of the things the guy was talking about was how nobles might be invested in supporting a local adventuring party, in exchange for being able to use them for special tasks.

and it hit me: Thelema is like, a perfect example of that. Not only is she a cunning noble with the skill to navigate upper society, she also has the willingness (and the power) to get down and dirty with matters.

Thelema would be such an interesting D&D character because she's superficially treated as a hedonist but in reality she's really pragmatic and thoughtful, so there's plenty of room for both fun and serious shenanigans. As for personal motives, she's totally capable of evil, but she doesn't senselessly cause harm (so she wouldn't be a murder hobo type). So she'd be very capable of doing questionable things, but she'd also perfectly willing to save the world if such a thing was in her interests.

While I haven't drawn up a complete character sheet for her, I at least have these ideas in mind:

I imagine she'd probably be a rogue with a noble background. The noble background is obvious; as for her being a rogue, I think her combat style in HI3rd gives off some of those vibes what with her chain-sword being used almost like a pair of daggers, just with a lot of extra pizzazz.

Checking the online D&D wiki I also see there's a "soul knife" rogue archetype which might fight Thelema's domination skills. Though, she also fits two other archetypes, Inquisitive & Mastermind, quite well. So idk which I'd pick if I had to choose just one since she has both psychic talent and incredible people/diplomatic/manipulative skills, lol

I could also see her being a sorcerer with Shadow Magic, but that might also be a better fit for a different Shu.

I haven't put enough thought into the rest of the Shus to give this same in-depth analysis but I at least wanted to get these ideas for Thelema out there!

However, I do have some preliminary thoughts for the classes of some of the other Shus:

Songque would probably be something to do with Illusion magic- following the book strictly she'd probably be a Wizard, but I imagine if the DM was a bit loose with the rules then she could be the Shadow Sorcer instead of Thelema; that also fits quite well with how we meet her in HI3rd!

Lantern could be a Ranger in the Hunter Conclave. It'd also be really funny if she refused to use any of the spells she learns, since we know she's adamant about her abilities being her own skill & training instead of being related to the shadows.

Litost gives Oathbreaker Paladin vibes, but idk enough about him or Oathbreaker Paladins to say for sure x-x

Ajita would be an Artificer, duh.

Serapeum could be a Druid (Dreams circle) or Wizard (Enchantment school), both seem fairly fitting for her powers of unity.

Baiji would be none other than the Dungeon Master! he gives DM vibes ngl, and it'd be really funny if the rest of the Shus were actual characters but Baiji was just a disembodied voice speaking at the rest of the gang

(context: In the game I'm making one of the characters you can talk to is some moody nervous exiled prince and in one quest you can help him with his writer's block on some of his poetry. This is one of the 'poems' (+ menu choice prompts) that I decided not to use in the game, but I thought it was kind of amusing on it's own and might would be fun to see the votes on)
