can’t stand all these ready meal prep startups with boring bland ass food. where’s the CULTURE. where’s the SEASONING. give me some damn Caribbean food. these people’s idea of diverse food options is some kind of dressed up pork, a fucked up pasta, or some americanized Mexican food.

On Holiday

Word Count: 1.5K || Series Masterlist || Rating: M

Christmas looked a little different this year. The smell of cinnamon and pine had been swapped for coconut and salt, and the chill of London was replaced by a warm sea breeze. Any other year, the season would have been crammed with visits to family and friends, tasty food, and Christmas carols, making for long, albeit fulfilling days.
But after a year at home, Harry had suggested something different.
“How’d you feel about a tropical Christmas, love,” he’d whispered against Quinn’s hair one night, so softly, she almost didn’t hear him.
The holidays had always been the only time he’d been allowed to slow down and see the people he loved most, soaking in as much as he could in the couple weeks he had. But with his self-imposed break, he’d had plenty of family time this year, he’d argued, which made him feel comfortable skipping out on some of the festivities.
And that’s how Quinn found herself in the Caribbean on Christmas, making use of the swimsuits she’d purchased during an end of season sale. Harry had taken care of planning every detail, even the smallest most mundane ones. Quinn had obviously fought him on it, never wanting to cede too much control, but she had to admit it was nice to just sit back and enjoy while someone else did the work.
She’d headed out the beach after breakfast and had quickly dozed off, the crash of the waves and the rustle of the trees lulling her into a peaceful sleep. As she slept, she dreamed that something was tickling her. She twisted trying to move away, but she couldn’t get comfortable and the sensation quickly returned. She sleepily swatted at her skin, only for the sensation to return with a vengeance. Finally, she opened her eyes and saw Harry standing over her, palm leaf in hand, hanging just above the exposed skin of her stomach.
“Hi,” he said with a mischievous grin.
“Seriously?”
“What?” he said, feigning innocence. “I missed you.”
“You’ve spent every minute of this trip with me, H,” she laughed. “How can you miss me?” Harry just shrugged. “You’re interrupting my beauty sleep,” Quinn added.
“You’re always beautiful. Don’t need sleep or anything,” Harry said, motioning for Quinn to scoot over on the plush lounger. She moved to the side, giving Harry enough room to sit down beside her before cuddling in beside him, linking their legs together.
“You’re just saying that because you want attention. Or sex,” Quinn muttered against his bare chest. He smelled like sunscreen and salt and it was quickly becoming her favorite scent.
“I mean, I won’t say no to either of those things,” Harry said with a chuckle. “But who’s to say I want anything? Maybe I just want to pay my wife a compliment.”
His wife. It had been almost two weeks and Quinn didn’t think she’d ever get tired of hearing those words from her husband. “Well, I’m lucky to have such a wonderful husband,” she replied, craning her neck to place a gentle kiss along Harry’s jaw. She never thought she’d be one of those newlyweds, but she had clearly misjudged herself.
They’d started wedding planning soon after Harry proposed, and while they’d initially assumed they’d have a large wedding (perhaps in Italy?), the more they looked into the actual mechanics of pulling it off, the less enthusiastic they became.
“I didn’t realize this would be so…involved,” Harry said over dinner one night after they’d spent the day researching venues. “It’s like planning the biggest party of our lives. But less fun. Am I allowed to say it’s not fun?”
“I know,” Quinn said, slightly relieved she wasn’t the only one who felt overwhelmed. “It’s like we need to have an idea about the guest list to see what venue would work, but then we kind of need to know where we’re going to have it so that we know who would be able to come. And there are so many decisions. Why are linens such a big deal? And then there’s trying to keep everything private. It’s just…” she trailed off.
“Yeah.”
“Yeah,” she said in agreement.
The next morning, Harry had presented his new plan over coffee. “How would you feel about eloping?”
So that’s what they did.
They enjoyed the spring and summer and fall soaking up time with family, exploring the city, and enjoying mundane everyday details that aren’t so mundane when you’re on the road for most of the year. They enjoyed being with each other and their families, all while keeping the biggest secret of their lives. And when work started to wind down for Quinn in early December, she cashed in all of her leave, ready for what came next.
On a rainy Saturday, they texted a couple of their friends and had them meet them at a venue that would not be making The Knot’s list of ideal wedding locations: a nondescript government building. Quinn wore a white jumpsuit she’d purchased earlier in the week, and Harry wore the simplest suit in his closet. An hour later, the papers were signed, and they were officially a married couple. They celebrated their nuptials with pizza and early bedtime, before catching a flight the next morning.
“So,” Harry said, moving to take Quinn’s hand in his own, bringing her back to the present. “When are we going to tell them?” He stroked the diamond band that now rested on her finger alongside the engagement ring he’d given her just a little over a year ago. She reached for his own wedding band in return, twirling it around his finger, smiling when she caught a glimpse of the small tan line that already formed.
“Would make for a great New Year’s surprise.”
“It would,” Harry said, smiling softly. “Mum’s going to lose it.”
“I just hope she’s not mad,” Quinn said. It was the fear that had been nagging at her since they’d made their decision. That by keeping this moment for themselves, they were somehow depriving their family and friends from sharing the memory with them, even though they’d agreed to have a celebration when they’d returned.
“None of that now,” Harry scolded. “She’s going to be thrilled that we finally made it official. Got my act together and made an honest woman of you.” Quinn shot him a look and he laughed. “You know what I mean. I think everyone’s just going to be so happy. That we did what worked for us. And if they aren’t, well they’re off the guest list for the celebratory dinner.”
“I’m really glad we did this, Harry,” Quinn said after a moment. “I think it’s everything I wanted.”
“Signing papers in a water-stained room while a government employee watched?”
“It would have been nice if there was some mold to complete the vision but I’ll take what I can get.” Harry laughed and Quinn waited until he calmed down before continuing. “No, I always wanted it to be you and me. I didn’t need a crowd of people or a dress or a fancy destination, I just needed you there with me. And you were. It was perfect.”
Harry was silent but Quinn could feel him take a shuddering breath. She knew what those words meant to him. That she wanted him. Not the glitz and the glamour and the money and the attention and all of the other things that came along with being Harry Styles. She just wanted him. Harry. The guy who always ended up on her side of the bed because his side was too far away. The guy that had coffee waiting for her every morning. The guy who would never admit it publicly but loved nothing more than reading the bios of the cats up for adoption at the local cat cafe, always saying he was just looking for one his mother would like. And now he was hers, forever and ever. Even when she had to share him with millions of others.
“You want another one of those rum things?” Harry asked, sniffling.
“Sure. Are you getting one?”
“Might as well. It’s our honeymoon after all. We only get one of those.” He waggled his eyebrows. ‘It’s our honeymoon’ had become his favorite way to justify anything and everything on the trip. He stood up and Quinn moved to follow him. “No, no,” he chided. “Stay here. I didn’t mean for you to get up.”
“I want to go,” Quinn said, reaching for his hand and leaning into his touch as he pulled her up. “I always want to be with you.”
“And now you’re stuck with me.”
“Forever.”
Harry smiled widely, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Come on.” He gently tugged Quinn along. “I need to get my wife a drink.”

my chemical romance for inrock, august 2007 / vol. 284 - english translated interview
Ray and Frank talk passionately about their views on life
When I thought about playing at the Budokan, I got so nervous that I couldn't sleep a wink.
Ray Toro & Frank Iero / My Chemical Romance INTERVIEW: YUKO KATO
On the morning of the Budokan concert, Frank and Ray were a little hyper and excited. It was such an important concert. It was a milestone for the band.
── How are you? Ray Toro (g): Awesome. This is actually the first time I've had this much time off in Japan, so I finally have time to explore this beautiful country.
── Where did you go? Ray: Asakusa and stuff... This time, my girlfriend Christy came to Japan with me, so we went together. We had two days off, so the day before yesterday we went to see some sumo wrestling. It's just great to be able to experience so much Japanese culture. (Frank comes in, interrupting Ray, taking off his jacket and putting on a T-shirt.)
── Woah, you have a lot of tattoos. I didn't know that because no one takes their clothes off on stage. Frank Iero (guitar): Yeah, he's covered in tattoos. Ray: Then maybe I should start playing shirtless from today onwards (laughs). Frank: Haha, you want to show off your tattoos? Ray: Well, I think it's better to be a little mysterious, so maybe it's cooler to hide it (laughs). Oh yeah, going back to what I was saying earlier, apart from sightseeing, I've been having a great time this time, performing on "Music Station" and the VMAs (MTV Video Music Awards Japan).
── Frank, what did you do during your two days off? Frank: I was with Ray and the others almost the entire time.
── Oh, you brought your girlfriend too? Frank: Yeah, only Ray and I did. Ray: Because we're smart! Frank: Yes, because we're smart (laughs). But seriously, if I hadn't brought her along, I don't think we would have been able to do as much sightseeing as we did. She knows how to use the subway. (As the interviewer checks the recorder) Are you making sure it's recorded properly? My dad writes for a magazine called "Modern Drummer," so like you, he's always nervous about making sure the interviews are recorded properly.
── Oh, I thought he was a musician. And an instrument instructor too… Frank: Yeah, he's a drum teacher, a magazine writer, and a band drummer.
── Woah, is that so? Frank: That reminds me, my dad once interviewed Carmine Appice, the drummer of a band called Vanilla Fudge, but he didn't record it properly, and he was pretty panicked. When that happens, you have to rely on your memory or start over. That makes the artist angry... well, it's a story that doesn't really matter to me (laughs). Um, what were we talking about? Ah, that's right, sightseeing. As I said, we went to Asakusa, and we drew our fortunes, lit some incense sticks, and after purifying our hands and mouths with the smoke, we went inside a temple and prayed. My fortune was great, by the way. After that, we went to Shibuya and Ginza, and last night we went to Roppongi Hills to see "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End".
── Did you like the movie? Frank: Oh, it was amazing! I can't believe a Disney movie could be so brutal. Especially… Ray: Come on, I haven't seen it yet! (covers his ears)
── By the way, I'm really relieved to see that you both look healthy. When I watched "Music Station," Gerard (Way, vocals) looked so skinny… Frank: Yeah, I guess you lose weight when you're on tour that much. He hasn't been feeling too great lately.
── Oh, is that so? Frank: We were all pretty sick, because we got food poisoning. Gerard didn't get food poisoning, but...
── Well, what happened to him? Ray: No, it's just that when you're on tour, you get tired. You have less time to sleep and eat. But don't worry, everyone's fine (laughs). But I hardly slept at all last night... I was so nervous (laughs).
── Oh, why? Because you're playing at Budokan? Frank: Yeah. I get to play at the historic Budokan with my favorite band (Bouncing Souls). It’s such a big, important thing for our career, and I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about it. I couldn't sleep at all.
── But compared to where you'll be performing at Wembley Stadium (June 16th in the UK, supporting Muse), the Budokan only holds 10,000 people. Frank: It's not a question of size. I have a lot of DVDs of Kiss playing at the Budokan, and it's a place where a lot of our heroes have played, including Cheap Trick.
── Are there any plans to release the footage from that time on DVD? Frank: We're going to film it, but we're not going to release it. We just want to keep it for ourselves as a keepsake. And with Mikey (Way, b.) gone now, it just feels wrong to release something without him.
── Speaking of Mikey, the host of "Music Station" also asked him, "Is it okay to take a honeymoon?" There aren't many musicians who take honeymoon holidays. Frank: Ah, well (laughs). We have a motto that the message is more important than the messenger. That is, our show and music are more important than the individuals in the band. That's why Mikey told us that he wanted us to continue doing that. On the other hand, being in this band, you get to have a lot of really great experiences, but in exchange, you don't get to experience the little things that normal people experience on a daily basis. For example, going on a honeymoon, traveling with the people you love, spending time with your family. So I wanted Mikey to experience those things, and I wanted to give him the opportunity to do so.
── Hmm... To be honest, I thought Mikey's hiatus was for a different reason. I read his interview with SPIN magazine earlier this year, and it seems like the situation in America is pretty crazy right now, right? So maybe it was a bit tough for him, since he’s a sensitive person… Frank: Yeah, yeah he's definitely sensitive, but this time it was a decision that we made to respect Mikey's desire to do the same thing as everyone else. Ray: It's because of this crazy schedule that we can't do normal things. We've been doing this for five years straight. Can you imagine having a job where you only get one or two weeks off a year? Frank: Plus, they got married on the road. They never had a chance to be alone together.
── But what about you? You didn't get a honeymoon holiday, did you? Frank: When I was really sick, I did take time off (laughs). Like at Big Day Out. I got a doctor's order. I've said this before, but when you do this kind of work, it's not so easy to take time off just because you're a little sick.
── That's right. There are a lot of things that you have to sacrifice. Frank: Exactly. But sometimes you just refuse to sacrifice your body or your mind. I think that's what happened with Mikey. He was overwhelmed physically and mentally and he needed to take a break. And he just got married, so now was the perfect time to take a break. And we're not just a band, we're like a family... so I miss him a lot and I'd love to be on the Budokan stage with him...
── When is he going to return to the band? Frank: I was actually just talking to him recently, and he said he wants to come back for the Projekt Revolution tour (with Linkin Park), so around August. But that's just a tentative date, and if he needs more time, it'll be a little later.
── It seems like someone is missing every time you come to Japan (laughs). Frank: Well, it's because other bands have time off and we don't have any, because we're always working.
── If that's the case, shouldn't you think about taking a proper rest? After the "Sweet Revenge" tour, everyone was in a bad mood and exhausted, and the atmosphere in the band wasn't very good, was it? Frank: Uh-huh. It's not like we hated each other or anything. But like you said, the tour was exhausting. That's why we took a month off after that. We didn't even talk about music for a month. And then we came back with renewed energy. But you know, we love music so much, and we love the art we do, so it's really hard to leave it. We feel like we can't be satisfied if we're not working or playing music. It's no exaggeration to say that this band saved our lives. We have to play music to survive. Sometimes we got sick. I have a particularly low immune system, so I get sick easily. Even when we played at Wembley, I was pretty sick on the second day.
── I wonder why. You look so healthy… Frank: I'm glad to hear that (laughs). But I do have some internal issues... I have problems with my digestive and immune systems, I get tired more easily than the average person, and I can't function without a lot of sleep.
── So you chose a profession that didn't suit your body. Frank: No, no, it's the job that's making me sick. I got really sick on the first tour and it just got worse and worse. I have a permanent immune system disorder. I have to take medicine every day for my stomach.
── Ray, are you okay? Ray: I feel amazing. I used to be sick all the time when we were touring in a van and stuff. I had an upset stomach… Frank: Maybe you gave it to me? (laughs)
── You two don't smoke, right? I think that's very important. Ray: Yeah, I smoked a little bit a year or two ago because I was feeling stressed, but I quit because I was worried it would turn into a habit. Frank: I've been smoke-free for about four years now.
── So the band has a smoking and a non-smoking tour bus? Gerard and Bob (Bryar, dr.) are the smokers… Frank: Yeah. But Gerard and Bob are both trying to quit this year. Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, so I think they'll have a hard time too. Ray: Every time Gerard smokes a cigarette I say, "That one will kill you." It's bad for your throat and it might even affect your voice, right? If he doesn't quit this year, I'll cut off one of my fingers every time he smokes. That's the only way to stop him (laughs)! Frank: Haha (laughs). That's how bad cigarettes are for your health.
── A lot of things happened within the band during this tour. Mikey got married backstage in Las Vegas, two of the band members got food poisoning… Ray: Yeah, me, Bob, (Matt) Cortez who plays bass for Mikey, and about half of the crew were affected. Frank: Luckily for me, I don't eat chicken or any meat at all. Ray: Because of that, everyone was in and out of the hospital for about a week. The members of Muse also got food poisoning.
── It seems that fans have even sent threats, including death threats, to the restaurants where you had meals? Frank: (with a serious look on his face) Yes, that's awful, right? I'd like to take this opportunity to say one thing about it: please don't do anything like that. We still don't know exactly what caused the food poisoning, and we're still investigating. Ray: Yeah, we don't want that either.
── By the way, in your interview with SPIN magazine you said something interesting: "We're not afraid to live." Is that a kind of mantra for the band? Frank: Uh-huh.
── But for us humans, just living is normal and we don't think about it, so why do we tell ourselves these things? Frank: This is just my opinion, but I think that in our culture these days, whether it's Japanese culture or American culture, but in all of our cultures, we're slowly forgetting the simple thing of love. I think we're exhausted by the violence that's happening in our daily lives, the wars that are happening in the world, and the hatred that we have for each other. Because of that, we tend to forget how wonderful life is and how connected we are as humans. We know the desire to interact with each other and the love that we should have for each other. Isn't it strange that all the smart scientists in the world can come together and invent these high-quality recording machines, but they can't feed the poor in other countries? I think it's strange. It's really sad that we have completely forgotten how wonderful it is to be alive and how important it is to help each other. We should never forget how beautiful life is, and that's why it's so important for us to spread that message. Also, everyone has a fear of death, but I think death is something that should be celebrated, to look back on the life that a person has lived. That's why it's important to think about what you do while you're alive and what kind of change you can bring to the world. Even one person can make a difference. We're just five ordinary guys, but our music has had a big impact on people all over the world, and I think that's a change. So wouldn't it be great if everyone could live with that kind of awareness? And I hope we can tell the next generation that it's okay to feel anxious or think that you're not okay. Anyway, I think it's important to have the desire to make some kind of change. Even if it's something small. If you have an extra dollar bill in your pocket, give it to someone who needs it. In addition to that, in a world that is so cruel and full of misery, I think it's important not to be afraid to live your life to the fullest for yourself and make yourself as happy as possible.
── Are you guys happy now? Ray: I'm happy. Frank: Me too. A healthy body and a happy mind is enough.

Team Tadpole: Modern AU Disney World Edition
A friend and I started riffing on what would happen if Team Tadpole went to Disney World.
Halsin 100% has a different ear headband for every day of the trip
Astarion tries to pretend he's too cool for everything, but is in fact loving it and gets a little emotional when they go for lunch at Be Our Guest
Minthara is just wondering how in the hell she was talked into this for the first half of the trip but betrays her growing enthusiasm by screaming gleefully on Tron.
Wyll gets blushy and nervous at all the princess meet-and-greets (Astarion does not let him live this down)
They go to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Lae'zel spends the entire time repeatedly riding Space Mountain because it's the one time it's 100% dark and as intense as Disney gets (she whines about going to Universal where they have "real rollercoasters")
Eating around the world: Gale, Halsin Drinking around the world: Astarion, Shadowheart, Karlach
Halsin laughs at all the dad jokes on the Jungle Cruise, Minthara seethes quietly, Astarion mumbles about whether he'd get banned from the park for jumping overboard
Karlach nearly gets the Mad Tea Party ride shut down for decontamination by spinning her teacup so hard the other occupants nearly lose their lunch
Minsc ties helium balloons to Boo until he floats. Otherwise he's carrying stuffies and huge amounts of food ("Gale, my foodie friend! Cheeseburger spring rolls; we must try these!")
Gale organizes the itinerary around dinner reservations (he's still a little sad everyone was like "HELL NO, GALE" when he floated the idea of doing the $425-per-person Chef's Table dinner at Victoria and Albert's)
"Which one would just run off and start causing chaos?" "Oh, Karlach. 100%. Well-meaning chaos, but chaos nonetheless."
Smuggler's Run positions: Pilot: Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Minthara (fistfight narrowly avoided by Jaheira splitting them into two groups) Gunner: Karlach, Wyll, Astarion Engineer: Gale, Halsin, Minsc
After the first 30 seconds of hearing the song on "Journey into Imagination" Astarion, Minthara and Lae'zel start discussing how they would like to kill Figment and settle on disembowelment (we will not discuss how "It's a Small World" goes)
Astarion and Shadowheart are Big Mad that the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is for children only, because they are pretty pretty princesses. Karlach is sad for the same reason but manages to badger everyone (except Minthara) into getting pixie dusted, meaning they're all finding glitter on their clothing (and elsewhere) for weeks.
Halsin makes everyone take the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch just so he can pet the goats
Crying at "Happily Ever After" fireworks: Astarion, Karlach, Minsc Cuddling their crying partner: Halsin, Wyll, Gale Using the fireworks to ride the rides with no lineup: Lae'zel, Jaheira, Shadowheart, Minthara
Most likely to have watched every All Ears/Mammoth Club/Disney Food Blog guide: Gale, Lae'zel
Mostly likely do have done a reasonable amount of research and preparation: Wyll, Minthara, Jaheira, Shadowheart, Halsin
Least likely to have looked at anything that has the faintest whiff of planning prior to the trip, including the weather forecast: Astarion (therefore also most likely to have to spend $$$ for a spirit jersey because he didn't pack warm enough clothing.)
Most likely to figure out on the first day how to game Genie+ and makes it their life's work to get the most lightning lanes possible and the earliest Guardians of the Galaxy/Tron virtual queue boarding group: Lae'zel and Minthara
Halsin seriously suggests staying on a tent/RV campsite at Fort Wilderness; Astarion votes for concierge-level Grand Floridian
Person who always asks to squeeze in one more ride on Pirates of the Caribbean: Wyll Person who somehow always gets wettest on Pirates of the Caribbean: Gale or Astarion

Chapter Nine: Close Quarters
“She agreed to meet for drinks,” Tommy declared as he entered the crew mess after the charter guests deboarded, his fit body vibrating with excitement. He stole half of the sandwich you just made with a cheeky grin before sliding in next to you at the table.
“Oy!” You slapped his hand too late; he already shoved it in his fat gob. “Bloody fucking menace. Did you annoy her to death, so she agreed just to get you to go away?”
He turned puppy dog eyes on you, so like his brother, and pouted. It must be a Miller family trait to have perfected that look. Sarah was just as good at it, too. “Rude.”
You laughed, bumping his shoulder playfully. He annoyed you like an older sibling, and you got over it just as quickly. “So, Maria is sticking around for a bit? Where are you going to take her?”
Tommy ran a hand through his long, dark hair. “Yeah, she’s staying in San Juan for another few days. I’m thinking Caribar at Caribe Hilton. I need to impress her.”
Your eyes widened. That was an upscale resort with expensive food and drinks. He was going all out for this woman. “Wow. I’m sure she’ll love it.”
His hands suddenly began fidgeting. “I haven’t taken dating seriously in a real long time. And she’s unlike anyone I have dated before. She’s way outta my league. I’m scared shitless,” Tommy admitted. Turning desperate eyes on you, he added, “Would you and Joel come along? Make it a double date kinda thing? I’ll be less nervous that way.”
You weren’t sure it was a great idea, but Tommy looked like a nervous little boy at the thought of going on an actual date without some type of backup. “Are you sure you want us there? It won’t cramp your style?”
“Please? You can leave whenever you want, just be there to help get the conversation flowing until I get comfortable. Or drunk. Whichever happens first, I guess.”
Shrugging, you tilted your chin toward the upper decks. “Let me run it by Joel, I guess. I’m not sure if he’s ready to put our relationship out there like that yet. And going on a double date with you and Maria would definitely put it out there.”
“I already ran it by him – he’s ok with it if you are.”
There went any excuse you could have thought of. If Joel was okay with it, how could you ever say no. You felt giddy at just the thought of going on a double date with him. That one night in the hotel being the closest thing you’ve had to a date in far too long. “That settles it. We’re going on a double date! Just keep it on the down low amongst the crew, yeah?”
“Keep what on the down low?” Sarah chimed in as she entered the crew mess for a snack. Each of you should have been doing work to turnover the boat for the next charter, but it seemed like everyone was feeling a bit peckish.
Tommy glanced at you and winked. “I asked Maria out and she said yes.” Sarah screeched in response, throwing her arms around Tommy. “That’s great! Where are you taking her? Tell me everything!”
You left the two of them to gush over Tommy’s plans and made your way up to the main deck to see what needed done still. The next couple of hours passed in a flash, the washdown keeping you busy. Joel held you back after the tip meeting – the guests left a huge tip after your heroic actions.
“Did Tommy talk to you?” His voice rough like sandpaper on fresh cut wood, causing a delightful chill to wash down your back.
“Mmhmm. You sure you want to do this?”
You held yourself back from reaching for him – it was torture, but you stayed strong. Joel glanced around the main salon confirming that it was empty but for the two of you. His head dipped, closing the distance between you, and placed a chaste kiss on your lips.
“Yes, I’m sure.” A mischievous look flashed in his dark eyes, and he swatted your ass before departing for the bridge, leaving you giggling like a lovesick teen as you made your way below deck. Your phone buzzed in your pocket. Pulling it out, you giggled at the text from Joel.
JM: We’re going on a date!
By the time you showered and readied yourself for a nice evening out, the news of Tommy’s date – and your and Joel’s roles in it – was old news to the rest of the crew. Talia eyed you knowingly, her mysterious and quiet nature made you believe she saw a lot more than she let on. Sarah and Tess teased you, true to form. Jake just looked at you blankly, leaving you wondering if he was jealous.
“Make sure he pays!” Sarah demanded. “Do not take your wallet out under any circumstances.”
She was so adamant that her dad better treat you well that it left you with an aching belly from laughing so hard.
“I’m serious! He’s got it in his head that he’s a feminist and I’m afraid he thinks that means women should pay their own way. DO NOT let him get away with that, not on a Captain’s salary. You hear me?”
Your hands flew up in surrender, eyes wide at her earnest tone. “Understood. He pays. No exceptions.”
Satisfied, Sarah changed the conversation to compliment your choice in attire. You opted for the classiest dress you packed, a form fitting but not indecent black number that you had tucked away in your closet for years. It was definitely your go-to little black dress and it had been severely under-utilized for the past couple of years. You paired the dress with strappy heels – nothing too high, you didn’t want to break an ankle – and your long hair flowed over your shoulders in natural, beachy waves. Your makeup was subtle and classy, just a hint of color on your eyelids and lips to accentuate your tanned skin, a definite benefit of working outside.
“You look gorgeous,” Tess said as you did one last spin for them.
“Yeah, Dad’s gonna stumble all over his words when he sees you,” Sarah added, hugging you.
You blushed, picturing Joel staring at you in adoration, complimenting you with a nervous hitch in his deep, rumbling voice. Damn, arousal already built in your lower belly at just the thought. You were in for a delightfully torturous evening.
Tumblr media
“Have I mentioned how beautiful you look tonight?” Joel breathed in your ear as you followed Tommy into the resort. “I’m going to have a hard time keeping my hands off you at the table.”
“Who said you had to?” you teased in return, enjoying the warmth of his hand at your back. “And yes, you have, but please don’t stop. You look sinfully gorgeous tonight as well.”
Joel grinned, dark eyes twinkling behind thick framed glasses, his lush curls artfully falling into place atop his head. Your fingers ached to run through them, twist them around your slim digits. Part of you longed to dash away, get a room, and keep Joel to yourself for the night. But one glance at Tommy’s anxious smile, dark eyes scanning the outdoor tables in search of Maria, and you knew the pair of you would never be able to sneak away.
“Ah, there she is!” Tommy exclaimed, spotting Maria at a table tucked into a corner of the open-air seating area. He surged forward, soft breeze ruffling his long curls. You squeezed Joel’s hand, hanging back to let Tommy greet his date without the pair of you hovering over them.
“I’ve never seen him like this,” Joel’s voice rumbled in your ear. “He must really like her.” Your head bobbed in agreement, turning to smile at him. Your faces were so close, the miniscule distance between you reduced further as Joel tilted his head, capturing your lips in a soft kiss. “Mmm, I really like you.” Joel’s lips pecked yours after every word.
“Come on already, love birds!” Tommy called, waving to you from his seat next to Maria.
“Nice to see you both again,” Maria greeted as you sat, her dark, smooth skin beaming with happiness.
Dinner was lovely, conversation flowing with a natural ease among the four of you. Maria and Tommy were equally enamored with each other and before long you and Joel were left chatting amongst yourselves.
“Want to get outta here?” Joel’s fingertips teased along the hem of your dress, stoking the fire that started building within you hours ago.
“Fuck yeah, I do.” Your chair nearly toppled backwards from the force with which you stood. Joel barely mumbled an excuse to his brother as you dragged him away, waving at Maria and Tommy over your shoulder.
A visceral need for him churned in your belly, skin buzzing as he dragged you around a few corners, backing you against a shadowed section of wall hidden from passersby and windows. Joel’s mouth was on you instantly, teeth nipping at your lips and scraping at your neck as he tasted your skin.
“Joel.” You drew his name out in a long, low moan as his fingers slid beneath the hem of your sundress and dipped past your panties. You were throbbing, wet and waiting for his expert touch. It had been too long since the last time you were together like this, the night at the hotel feeling like a distant memory.
“Sweetheart, all this for me?” His fingers left you briefly, bringing them up to his eyeline. Joel stared at the glaze on them, before slipping them into his mouth to suck at the irrefutable evidence of your arousal. “Fucking Christ, you taste good. Like nectar from a god damn peach.”
Joel made quick work of removing your panties, shoving the strip of fabric in his pocket as his lips met yours. A gasp left your lungs when his fingers sank knuckle deep inside you, his thumb teasing at your clit. The bundle of nerves already over sensitized, Joel made you come within minutes, his mouth swallowing your moans and whines.
“That’s it, sweetheart. Coming on my damn fingers already. So sexy.” Joel’s voice, rough with arousal, talked you through it, lips still touching yours as you breathed the same breaths. His free hand worked at his pants, setting his hardened cock free from its confines. “Need you, sweetheart. Now.”
“Oh, fuck.” Knees already weak from your orgasm, you hiked one leg up around his hip while he supported you, grasping your ass to hike you further up. Joel slipped inside, stretching your warm, wet walls with the sheer size of him. “Joel, love, you feel so good.”
Part of you couldn’t believe you were letting Joel fuck you against a wall in public. It was something you’d never done before – you were adventurous, sure, but not that adventurous. The other part of you didn’t give a shit. You were with Joel, the hard press of his body moving against yours bringing you both immense pleasure, and that was all that mattered.
Hands buried in those lush curls, you keened. “Faster, please.” Already on edge, you needed as much of Joel as you could get. “I’m so close.” His hips lurched in response, snapping faster, harder as his mouth latched onto the skin at the base where your shoulder met your neck. The sharp nip of his teeth followed by the gentle swipe of his tongue soothing the spot sent you over the edge. “Fuck, Joel!”
“Shhh,” he hushed you, fucking you through the height of your orgasm as your walls choked his cock. His thrusts became erratic, muscles flexing as he lost control. Your name flowed beautifully from his lip while his cum painted your walls. You stayed connected, chests heaving, and concrete wall cool against the heated skin of your back, as you both came down from the heights of ecstasy for several minutes.
“That was…”
“Yeah…”
There were no words.
The breeze shifted, carrying a slight chill in the night air, and you finally separated to right yourselves. Holding your hand out for your panties once Joel tucked himself away, you laughed when he just patted his pocket with a shake of his head. “Nah, I’m keepin’ ‘em.”
“Naughty,” you teased, grasping his hand as you walked.
The yacht was lit up when you made it back, the rest of the crew on the sundeck, dancing and carrying on. Laughter and buzzed conversations carried through the air as you and Joel quietly boarded without anyone seeing you. You knew you should join them on deck, but your heart ached to stay near Joel as long as you could. Joel seemed to feel the same.
Hand in his, you followed him through the interior to the bridge, brows shooting up when Joel merely nodded to Frank and dragged you around the corner to his quarters. You could hardly meet Frank’s knowing gaze as you passed.
“Joel, what –”
He silenced you with a finger against your lips, still puffy from the shared moments against the wall. “I’m not ready to let you go,” he murmured, shutting the door behind you. Large hands deftly removed your dress and bra, tossing them aside before slipping a fresh tee shirt over your head. “You’re staying here tonight, okay?”
Eyes widened comically, you merely nodded as Joel stripped down to his boxer briefs and pulled you into bed with him. You expected him to lead you somewhere quiet and private, but certainly not as private as his quarters. Settled beneath the soft sheet next to him, nothing in your life ever felt as right as laying there in Joel’s arms, his lips pressing tender kisses to your forehead. You only hoped he didn’t come to regret it in the morning.
Tumblr media
The sky beyond the porthole was still dark, the first hints of dawn not yet peeking through when Joel drifted into wakefulness, your warm body tangled with his. Nose buried in your hair, he breathed in your scent, one hand caressing the soft, supple skin of your hips while the other cradled your head. He could not recall ever feeling such contentment, his heart fit to burst with emotions.
Joel’s hands continued wandering as he became lost in thought, imagining more moments like this with you. He could not wait to further explore things with you during the off season. You came in and set his life upside down in the best way possible when he least expected it. Falling in love did not come easy to Joel, but with you, it was effortless. He was falling whether he wanted to or not, it was inevitable and unstoppable.
You stirred beneath his touch when his hand dipped between your thighs, thick fingers teasing at your slit, already wet and ready for him. The sleepy moans you let out as he rubbed your clit hit his ears like a symphony. Joel continued fingering you until you were fully awake, clutching at him as he drew an orgasm from you.
“Joel,” you breathed his name into the dark room, mouth pressed to his neck, tasting the saltiness of his skin. “What’s gotten into you?” His hands were everywhere, mapping your body, committing it to memory.
“You.”
Mind still foggy with a mix of pleasure and sleep, you stared at him, perplexed. “What?”
“You. You’re what’s gotten into me,” he replied with a soft chuckle, pulling you impossibly closer. “You wriggled your way into my life, beneath my skin, into my heart. Now you’re in my bed. Of course, I’m going to take advantage of that.” You were looking at him with such softness in your eyes, he knew you felt the same.
Your hands wandered as he spoke, body still buzzing from the aftereffects of your orgasm, and finally wrapped around his rapidly hardening cock. “Yes, taking advantage of that sounds like a good plan.”
Joel laid back, letting you take control, your touch setting him ablaze. Shuffling down toward the foot of the bed, you took him in your mouth, and he whined at the wet warmth encasing him. He couldn’t take his eyes off you as you worked him, taking as much of him as you could until his tip hit the back of your throat, tongue working along the bottom of his shaft and swirling around the head. He wouldn’t last long like that, hands grasping your arms to gently pull you up.
“Why’d you stop me? I was enjoying myself,” you sassed, climbing up Joel’s broad form, thighs settling on either side of his hips.
“So was I, but I didn’t want to blow my load so quick. You’re too good at that, beautiful girl.” You were painfully gorgeous in the pre-dawn light, the glow of your skin ethereal in the moonlight. He kissed you, tongue licking into your mouth to tangle with yours as you wriggled your hips until the broad head of his cock was perfectly notched to slip inside you.
You sank down on him, moaning into the kiss as you began to ride him with a slow rocking of your hips. Unlike last night, where the pair of you worked each other hard and fast from the overwhelming need of the moment, every movement this morning was lazy and loving, a slow build of pleasure until you came with a gasp, Joel exploding inside you shortly after.
Words were on the tip of his tongue as you clung to each other afterwards, drowsy and sated, but Joel swallowed them. Too soon, he reminded himself.
Sleep pulled you both back under for a couple hours until all hell broke loose.

Paris: A Year Abroad in a short film
Audio: "Burnt Norton" by Lana Del Rey, a rendition of the original poem "Burnt Norton" by T.S. Eliot.
Where do I even start? Paris has wholly shaped me in ways I never imagined. We refer to Paris as the city of love, but I'm now more inclined to call it the city of art - which only leaves more room for love in your heart. There is so much to contemplate and appreciate in frequenting the vast array of art museums here - from the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Musée de l’Orangerie, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and many more. Not only has my perspective on art expanded, but so has my worldview. That’s because art is truly everywhere in this city; art can be found in the walkable streets amidst the rich architecture, the fashionable outfits seen in daily life, and even the exquisite decor in stores and when you cheekily peek into Parisian appartments!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's always something new to discover in Paris, I'm almost saddened at the thought of the things I've yet to discover or missed. The treasures to unveil in Paris move far beyond the typical tourist hotspots we all know and love. I am obsessed with Parisian boutiques; they are chic and unique (that unintentionally rhymed) in the best way possible. One of my favourites is La Tonkinoise à Paris, located in the 11th arrondissement. This particular arrondissmenet is the best in Paris to be honest, it holds a special place in my heart as I had the wonderful opportunity of living there, so perhaps you can say that I am somewhat biased. Still, I can confidently say that this animated, hip and creative neighbourhood is one everyone should have the chance to explore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
La Tonkinoise à Paris, owned by the lovely Chantal, is my favourite hidden gem in Paris. I had the pleasure of befriending Chantal as I ended up frequenting her store one too many times; I've garnered quite a collection over time. This boutique offers a wide range of eccentric and sustainable jewellery, with her earring creations being the show stoppers, in my opinion. Her jewellery is composed of rings, pearls, brooches, charms, and watches, all unearthed in flea markets and recycled. I love that every piece of jewellery indeed is a unique piece. The decor changes based on the season and theme of her new collections, making it an ever-changing and exciting shopping experience. This is honestly the best jewellery store I have ever been to in my life! I wish the pictures I took could do the jewellery and the boutique's decor justice, but it simply won't, I'm afraid.
Tumblr media
Now, onto food, I genuinely need to figure out where to start here. My favourite authentic French restaurant would have to be 'Le Potager du Père Thierry', located in Montmartre. Although it's incredibly small, I love the cosy vibe; I feel like I can enjoy delicious food with friends without feeling surrounded by strangers. Surprisingly, it's also very quiet (yet packed) - I guess the food is just too distracting.
As of late, my favourite non-french restaurant has to be 'Big Black Cook' (let's ignore how inappropriate that pun is, though funny). It's located in the 2nd arrondissement and serves Caribbean food, my friend claims that it was the best meat she's had!
For brunch, I recommend Café Méricourt in the 11th arrondissement. Their green Eggs & Feta are absolutely incredible and quite innovative as far as brunch places go.
As for a boulangerie - seriously, anywhere, literally anywhere in Paris, go to your nearest bakery; there need not be a big fuss - you're in for a scrumptious baked treat regardless!
Tumblr media
I'm ever so grateful for the chance to have lived in Paris for an extended period; you cannot appreciate Paris in its entire splendour from a mere short-term visit. The city is an actual work of art; art is everywhere in the city, from the street performers and musicians, the light filters through the trees, the city's many architecturally rich bridges, the picturesque cafés and boulangeries, the beautifully presented food, the way that the city's many different neighbourhoods each have their own distinct character and vibe. In Paris, art is everywhere.

Thess vs Food Stereotypes
Okay, really getting tired of this.
I didn’t want to hijack the post doing the rounds about “British kids try biscuits and gravy for the first time” and people getting judgemental about British cooking based on a few kids whose idea of ‘biscuit’ is very different than the American version and one British uni student’s aversion to spice. Thing is, though ... I live here, and I moved here from Canada (Montreal, even, which has a reputation for being as foodie as Paris but with a lot more politeness) by way of the United States. I’ve seen the stereotypes from all three countries, and when it comes to England, I’ve been everywhere from tiny hamlets to ... well, London, where I currently reside.
A lot of “traditional dishes” lack for spice here, true. However ... did y’all forget, while you were going, “American versions of recipes from other places have such flavour because poor / low class immigrants brought the recipes here”, that Britain was a fucking empire? We bitch about British colonialism all the time, and fair enough, but no one seems to have considered the huge variety of food that brought to this tiny wet little island. Even in the tiniest hamlets you’ll generally find an Indian takeaway, always family-run, always by families who came from the country from which the cuisine originated, some as recently as a generation ago. Bigger cities, and especially someplace like London? You’ll find a lot more. Hell, I live near an area that’s a blend of Afro-Caribbean, Nigerian, and Filipino, and the food you’ll find in the area reflects that. And I don’t just mean restaurants either; people who live here are clearly making that stuff at home, if the local markets are any indication. It’s the same all over, with a lot of emphasis on Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese, Filipino, and the foods of various African nations. Britain colonised these countries, and maybe the white people don’t make as much use of the spices they got by doing so as they could? But some do.
Also ... dude, they have herbs here. And they use them. Stews are full of thyme and sage and bay leaf. Sauces are a thing - mint for lamb, applesauce (not the sweet dessert kind; the kind where the tartness of the apple is maintained) for pork, fucking horseradish for beef. Root vegetables like parsnips and carrots are often roasted in a honey glaze, and never underestimate how a flavour profile changes if you change what fat you’re using for roasting a potato. (Seriously, just try roasting potatoes in goose fat.) Gravy? They have gravy; not as thick, and more generally devoted to the flavours of the juices of the roast, but they have gravy.
Britain has a different, earthier, occasionally sweeter flavour profile to a lot of its traditional dishes than other countries, yes. And there are a lot of people in this country who fear anything more than one clove of garlic, yes. However, there are Americans who fear anything that doesn’t taste of grease and mayonnaise, too (which is the stereotype, I’m afraid). So maybe can we lean less into the stereotype and, while trying unfamiliar foods, also do some research and try a variety of those unfamiliar foods instead of judging an entire country’s palate based on a couple of school kids who don’t know the American South’s version of a biscuit? Just be happy they’re loving it.
And go try some bubble and squeak sometime. Lancashire hot pot. Cornish pasty. Cullen skink. Hell, shepherd’s pie! It’s not all boiled everything, y’know.

Good morning!  I hope you slept well and feel rested?  Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day.  Welcome to the weekend!  And welcome to the final month of the year, December!
Wow!  Here we are again: Friday!  Where did that week go?  No, seriously, where did that week go?
That busy day I detailed yesterday … well … busy as expected!  I really covered some ground but, thankfully, I got everywhere on time!  Today, will be a lot simpler!  In fact, I don’t need to leave the house!
Last night, as I mentioned yesterday, my final stop was at the ‘nine night’ for The Trouble’s dad.  Yes, it was a sombre affair but – my goodness – we had a good time!  I don’t know what your in-laws are like but mine are brilliant!  We don’t have one caterer in the family, we have three!  So, whenever we have any kind of family function, The Trouble’s family step up to the plate.
If your party involves good food, you’re halfway to a good time!  That was always my mum’s theory.  The evening started with hot chicken or vegetable soup, with hard dough bread and butter, and as it was freezing outside, everyone was very appreciative of the soup.  The vegetable soup was full of Caribbean ingredients, so I had two cups!  And, even though we hadn’t reached main course, we could see people joking and laughing.
We’d set up a dominoes table, so there was an ongoing game throughout the evening.  Harlesden’s Finest a.k.a. DiGreeneyez was playing the tunes and she absolutely smashed it!  Playing all of Daddy Patterson’s old-time raving favourites: Dandy Livingstone, Johnny Nash and even ‘Big Seven’ by Judge Dread, plus The Paragons’ wonderful version of The Beatles’ ‘Blackbird’.  Truly a celebration of his life!
Really hope you can join me tomorrow at 1.00 p.m. for ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’.  The Letter S Part Three: Executive Producer: @KerryMcMilne.  Jigs can’t do his show this week, so the A-Z is extended by two hours until 5.00 p.m.
Have a fabulous and funky Friday!  I love you all.  You’re probably thinking, “You don’t even know me!” but, if people can hate for no reason, why can’t I love?

What Amenities and Services Can Travelers Expect at Kahului Cruise Ship Port?
The Kahului Cruise Ship Port in Maui, Hawaii, is one of the busiest ports for cruise passengers visiting the beautiful island. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning, it's important to know what amenities and services are available at the port to make your trip smooth and enjoyable.
Tumblr media
According to the Hawai'i Tourism Authority, in 2023, over 90 brands operate 447 cruise ships globally, with an estimated 31.16 million passengers, up from 29.7 million in 2022. The U.S. is the largest source market, while the Caribbean leads as the top sailing region at 38%, followed by the Mediterranean (17.5%) and Northern Europe (10%).
In this article, we’re going to explain what you can expect when you arrive at Kahului Cruise Ship Port.
What Is Kahului Cruise Ship Port?
When your cruise ship arrives at Kahului Cruise Ship Port, you'll find yourself in Maui's main commercial port. The port handles both passengers and cargo shipments.
The port is located in Kahului town, the biggest town on the island. This means you’ll be close to shops, restaurants, and other services as soon as you step off the ship.
The port plays an important role in Maui’s economy. It's not just for tourists—it also handles shipping goods like food, cars, and other supplies that people in Maui need. However, as a traveler, you'll mainly be interested in the passenger services and how to start exploring Maui from the port.
What Amenities Can You Find at Kahului Cruise Ship Port?
Let’s talk about the facilities and services available at the port. When you arrive, you want to make sure you’re comfortable and know where to go. Here’s what you’ll find:
Cruise Ship Docking Area
Firstly, the port has a dedicated docking area for cruise ships. This means your ship will have a safe spot to park when you arrive. The docking area is large enough to handle big cruise ships, so you don’t have to worry about safety.
Transportation Services
Secondly, you’ll need a way to get around Maui once you arrive. Unfortunately, the port itself doesn’t offer rental car services, but don’t worry! There are rental car companies nearby that you can easily book in advance. Many tour operators also provide shuttle services to pick you up directly from the port.
Nearby Shops and Restaurants
Moreover, the port is located very close to shopping centers and restaurants. You can take a short walk to explore the local area. You’ll find Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, Maui’s largest shopping mall, just a few minutes away. Here, you can grab a bite to eat, shop for souvenirs, or simply enjoy some time off the ship.
Some popular places to eat nearby are Da Kitchen Cafe, which is famous for Hawaiian comfort food, and Maui Coffee Roasters, a great spot to grab a cup of local coffee.
Public Facilities
The port has public restrooms and seating areas to make your visit comfortable. There are also information desks where staff can help you with directions and advice on what to do next.
However, keep in mind that the port doesn’t have large waiting areas or lounges, so it’s best to plan your trip in advance and know where you’re headed once you disembark.
Security and Safety Measures
Lastly, the port takes security very seriously. There are security checkpoints to ensure that everyone entering and leaving the port is safe. You’ll notice port staff and security personnel making sure everything runs smoothly.
For your safety, make sure to follow all instructions from port staff, especially when boarding or leaving your ship.
What Services Are Available for Cruise Passengers?
Here are some additional services that travelers can expect when arriving at Kahului Cruise Ship Port:

Sea Moss
I make my own sea moss gel, currently have a glass jar covered with cheesecloth in the fridge, and small cubes of sea moss in freezer. Sea moss last up to five weeks in the fridge, but can last three to six months in the freezer. I once forgot I had a few more frozen sea moss cubes in the freezer and even eight months later they were still good, however I do not recommend using them after six months (disclaimer). Note: make sea moss into a gel before eating it or before freezing it.
Dried untreated (not yet turned into a gel) sea moss can last one year as long as it is in a cool dry secure place.
I began eating sea moss since the pandemic, and I believe sea moss was one of the natural treatments I use that helped to keep me healthy, I never had the pandemic illness, and never became sick during that period…lucky me, or was it the help of sea moss, ginger, and other natural healers…maybe.
My Mom was first surprised I asked her about sea moss, she said I didn't like it when I was young. We are Jamaicans and our island culture has used sea moss for hundreds of years, perhaps longer (the Natives way before invasions). Well I was young back then and sea moss is an acquired taste. And now, even some of the elders in my family ask me how to make sea moss, and I told them, and I sometimes give a jar of sea moss to my sister.
I use just a teaspoon of sea moss gel every now and then. It is recommended not to over use sea moss because it contains lots of iodine, however because it has 92 of the 102 minerals the human body needs, sea moss I believe is a must for good health. If you do not use sea moss that often, go ahead and put a table spoon in your meals or smoothies. If you use sea moss daily, I recommend using only a teaspoon every day. If you will make different food dishes using sea moss in one day, perhaps use less than a teaspoon of sea moss for each meal or drink.
I put sea moss in my soup, it's good for thickening soup, in my veggies, smoothies, tea, or just put a spoonful in my mouth. I do not use sea moss every day, that's why I freeze most of it.
Please note, if you use frozen sea moss and are blending it, heat the frozen sea moss a bit with filtered or distilled water to soften it before putting the sea moss in the blender, frozen sea moss is super dense and may break a blender blade.
Years ago I made a mega long post about sea moss which proved way popular, so I will not go into extreme detail about sea moss. I think I deleted that previous post, not sure, that was about five years ago.
Before going to any place where I am in a closed space with many people, I take sea moss, and also use ginger. Everything natural and organic.
Sea moss is a tricky product, it is a type of seaweed, a sea vegetable. Caribbeans were the people who mainly used sea moss and never (or at least rarely) before did they bottle it up and sold it in gel form because it can quickly go bad, only ever saw the salted dried sea moss in the green market, and Caribbeans make their own sea moss gel at home. Otherwise, Caribbeans, mostly Jamaicans make a drink that has sea moss in it called Irish moss (you can look up 'Jamaican style Irish moss ingredients' for more information on that drink).
Because of the pandemic, the rest of the world found out about sea moss and now it is being sold in so many forms. This makes me question how clean are such products and how can they make money if the sea moss goes bad in five weeks. Making it, then holding it to be shipped, then shipping it, then stocking it on the shelves. How long is the sea moss on the shelves, maybe someone buys it and there is only a few days or a week left to use it.
Yes I'm being a skeptic, but I guess just like some things have an expiration date so does store bought sea moss, but seriously, sea moss takes effort and time to make, especially if you want a clean and healthy product, and sea moss gel must have a way to breath, that's why cheesecloth is recommended to cover the sea moss in a glass jar. Also only glass can the sea moss be stored in, and sea moss does not like any other type of substance touching it, such as storing it in a non-glass jar.
For now I make my own sea moss. Since it became popular the product has drastically increased in price. It is the most inexpensive at certain green markets. Despite a bum knee which can sometimes be painful, I will trek to the green grocery just to get the dried sea moss, not only is it cheaper, the green market dried sea moss is more trustworthy to be natural and not grown under suspicious conditions.
In the past all sea moss use to truly come from the sea, but with the drastic global increase of interest in sea moss, a lot of the sea moss is not naturally grown. To the green market I will go to get the natural product.
To Your Good Health.
Everything in this post in my raw authentic opinion.
-
Disclaimer: Sea moss gel can last three to four to five weeks in the fridge. My sea moss gel is still good up to five weeks in the fridge, but I would not risk using it after five weeks, even if it seems like it is still fresh.
Sea moss frozen gel can last three months to four months and up to six months in the freezer, some even declare up to one year. Use how many months at your discretion. The standard these days is up to six months to keep frozen sea moss gel.
-
Sea moss was in the Caribbean and used by Natives of the Caribbean for centuries.
-
Odd: I don't know why I thought sea moss was not a vegetable or an animal, thinking it is one of those in between species like corals (note, decades ago corals were not considered animals or vegetables, but now they are considered animals), sea moss is a type of algae, a seaweed. Also sea moss is not a moss, only named moss because of how it grows on rocks like land moss, but in the water. I really think they should rename this species. Sea algae weed, seaweed algae, reddish seaweed, weed mossy sea algae, something like that. Maybe boss weed, boss seaweed, mineral seaweed. The boss and also mineral because of how nutrient rich it is. Boss mineral seaweed. Sea Boss, instead of Sea Moss.

Postcards from Snagglepuss
How crazy can diver's bars get?
IN A BACK-ALLEY DIVER'S BAR IN CHRISTIANSTED, ST. CROIX, US VIRGIN ISLANDS: The uninitiated probably know not the difference between a diver's bar (as in such catering to the diver crowd) and a dive bar (as in the seedy-looking places in rather seedy parts of town, notorious for watered-down drinks at inflated prices and their attracting the weird and unwholesome) ... and I hope this has answered your query. Or has it?
But at any rate, in such a town like Christiansted, such differences try not to seem trivial. Especially as Christiansted still retains a Danish sort of look, going back to when the US Virgin Islands were the Danish West Indies, and you wonder why Denmark was intersted in the Caribbean, to begin with, let alone the sugar and rum trade as so dominated the interests of the British, the French and even the Dutch in those parts. But then again, rum is derived from sugarcane.
And in such a siver's paradiso as the United States Virgin Islands, you have diver's bars as can be bound to be legendary (and hopefully, not for the brawls bound to break out). This one in Christiansted where we're killing an evening may be the smoke-filled, dimly-lit sort, but at least decent food is the order of the evening. Not to mention iced tea with some ginger beer mixed in--alias shandy.
Then again, Peter Potamus, "just in case," has a couple weapons handy in his diver's defensive arsenal: The old-reliable Hippo Hurricane Holler (the first part of which is relied on ahead of freedive attempts, which can attract plenty of laughs especially in Polynesia Uncharted)--and a diver's knife whose holster is strapped unto his leg. But so much for weaponry: Such time in Christiansted was mainly for storytelling, story embellishment even ... especially the sort as had Peter relating experiences in Polynesia Uncharted, in particular one noticing where "it's not uncommon for lovesick wild dolphins to seriously befriend the naked natives and they actually play along with their desires; dolphins, as is well-known, like using sex as a way of building friendship!"
Which Hair Bear was bound to add to in relating that escapade last spring back at Theater of the Sea where one particular dolphin turned out to be too romantically attracted in such an ursine presence, to begin with.
But to really bring the house down among the Caribbean diving confraternity so gathered, you probably have to go to those Divin' Wolf Pups, Bon-Bon and Ding-a-Ling: Their tale related an experience up among northern Minnesota's lakes which had Hokey's girlfriend and romantic interest, Harmony Wolf, along for as much the dive as a few life lessons she wanted to show them ... to hear Bon-Bon explain it, "I never knew that a she-wolf could have such a sexy look while diving ... and in our following her along, our lupine fascination was such that we couldn't help but have such a feeling between our legs like we did!"
"Which," Ding-a-Ling added, "certainly amused our gal as she did!"
And to the surprise of all, Harmony Wolf came along.
"Hello, guys ..." (In that rather "come hither" sort of tone she's fond of deploying when she insists she wants some time with you.) Which had Hokey Wolf remarking "So how could she find us here, come to think of it?"
Her stunned silence, dumbfounded in its own way even, broke things up in laughter.

Welcoming 31 hits different. :') This year feels VERY VERY different. I LOVE MY FRIENDS :')
I started my birthday week with week knees from the lack of stretching... and the intense walking up and down the stairs at work. Like bruh, I was a sub art teacher, sub dance teacher AND sub homeroom teacher... IT WAS AN INTEEENSE WEEK. I never thought having a teacher job can be THIS physically taxing and also truly feel like my own real life tv sitcom... Lowkey when I'm in our teacher's lounge, I check for cameras coz sometimes I truly feel like I'm being punked (Ashton Kutcher? are you there?)
And the week ended with a super tiring BUT fun multicultural potluck where I got to meet my students' parents. OMG! :') I found out I AM THE FUN TEACHER at my job. No wonder the kids don'tn take me seriously. ALSO the food??! the parents brought? UGH chef's kiss! ALOT OF Caribbean food. It was also nice being able to interact with my kids (OMG! I call my students "my kids" now!) in a non "we're doing math workshop" setting. It was pure joy :') And then on Friday, this extra Filipina brought her signature Adobo! And IT WAS A HIT! Like, ugh, now everyone is like obsessed with my cooking skills, lol looks like my cookbook project is still a YES LET'S DO IT! since I'm starting to expand my fanbase from outside academia to the halls of my flatbush elementary school lol.
Saturday I had my birthday celebration. And my new york friiiends came :') Wild to see the community I was able to build around me in just 6 years of living in this side of this country (3 years in DC, 3 years in NY) Liiiike, I was so overwhelmed with joy at the sight of everyone getting to know each other and truly loving each other's vibe. :') Also, also-- SUNSET PARK IS STILL THE BEST NEIGHBORHOOD IN BROOKLYN (fight me!) liike if you want to be surrounded by community oriented neighbors, then this is the place! Unless ofcourse you're a gentrifier then PLEASE DON'T COME, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE.
After the potluck at my apt. we went for karaoke! :') Everyone sang! and then we ended the night with tacos from Tia Rosa! it truly was a magical fun night that even my friends continue to rave about up to this day ( I mean its only been a week lol BUT HEY now we're celebrating friendsgiving haha)
ANYWAAAAAYS! I am proud to say, Rozette at 31 has finally entered her healing era! :') that 6 year relationship breakup may have put me in a VERY MANIC episode(s) but I am very much proud to say that I am finishing the year strong and looking forward to 2024! <3
CHEERS TO ALL THE FRIEND DINNERS I WILL BE HAVING IN MY LIL APT. :') this is my FRIENDS tv show (POC edition) lol

Two Ominous Visions... From The Goddess of The Hurricanes (A warning for any person than lives in Florida)
I had two visions in June 1, and after almost two months of not knowing if post about them; (and now remembering how bad things were when Fiona striked The Caribbean, and how only a few people sadly died in my nation; for not taking this hurricane, seriously...) I decided to post it anyway, 'cause maybe someone takes these visions; as seriously as I feel them, and... I could at least save to a few lives.
This was the first of two visions, sended to me by Guabancex:
I was dressed like her, walking near a coast where all the boats were on land away of the sea by a few meters; and with the bottom of the boat turned at the sky. The Pier, had a few chunks of cement ripped off; and when I walked inside the land, there were malls and houses destroyed too by the forces of the winds; nobody at sight and the breeze as my only companion, like if I was in a ghost town. Then, I heared only a name; from a bodiless female voice, the name of the land hitted by total destruction: Florida.
And, the second vision; was as it follows:
She was like I always saw her dressed, but... In a big ring, like she was a wrestler of the WWF; (walking slowly and bragging about the destruction than only she, is able to bring) and the place was full of people screaming enthusiastically in their innocent and fun spectacle, until... She looked directly where the entire world could literally saw her, and she said in a cold voice and with an stern face; than ''For all the bad things done in this place, I will send a hurricane than will look likes is the end of the world; 'cause the ones than are ruling there, has to be punish for using their power; to punishes to innocent people who doesn't deserve it!...'' Then, she just dropped the mic to the floor, with an wrathful expression in her face, and then; everyone in the public stopped speaking and/or laughing... There was a deadly silence, in the air. Florida: That's the name of that land.
Guabancex is really furious for the horrible laws than were enable in that place (You know: The ones than discriminate people, and others than will endanger innocent lives in that land; meaning all the laws than makes you feel sick and/or scare you, with only think in any of them), and she told me than she will send a major hurricane to Florida: If you, or a loved one lives there; and a hurricane category 3 or more, could arrive soon in Florida... You have only one day, to take to your loved ones, food; water, their documents and first aid kit; and leave to a safer place: I hope this is one of those visions than never happens, but; if a major hurricane is near Florida, then please be careful; and... Just LEAVE. (Better being wrong, than sorry!...)
Scientists had predicted in the last weeks, than this Hurricane's Season ('cause the record warming of the sea, the extreme heat cause by ''El Super Niño''; and the typical appearance of more storms in August til October) could see between two; to five major hurricanes; which means than at least one of these storms, could became a serious threat to People in all The Caribbean, including Florida: Let's continue to watch to the sea... Til November, 30!
Good luck to all The People and Pagans in Florida, and remember than Florida is under Guabancex's Domains and Power; so just check if you have to replace something in your Emergency's Kit now, (That includes to buy that extra box of medicine, two extra little bottles of drinkable water; and have a few hundreds in cash keep near of you, just in case the AMT's are not working; or are far of you) so you can be less stressed out when the evacuation become imminent; and than you only thought, is saving the only thing of real worth: Your life... And the lives of all the people than you care, and/or you can reach.
Than this visions be of the ones, than never turns into a reality... So Be It!

Fieldwork Ch. 6: Ethnicity and Nationalism
In my opinion, you can not talk about Ethnicity without Nationalism because they conjointly describe a person's cultural background. I will touch on my own family history and how their actions regarding where to migrate affected me.
How long has your family lived in this country? My family has been in this country steadily for about 25-30 years. This started with my great-uncle on my mother's side who wanted to create a new life after the birth of his second child. He knew his current way of living would not benefit his children long term so he ventured out to the U.S. I don't have much information on my fathers but the majority of his family resided in our homeland.
Where did they come from? My entire family is fully Jamaican dating back to the 1900s, I have no knowledge of any other ethnicities past that time. My mother's side is from the capital, Kingston. Occupying neighborhoods such as West Cumberland, Cherry Hill, Half Way Tree, Tivoli, and Duhaney. My father's side grew up in the countryside by Ochi (Bob Marley's birth town) then later moved to West Cumberland.
Has your family embraced American Nationalism?
I do think my family embraced American Nationalism. While we still visit and connect with our relatives back home, by looking at us or our home I don't think you can tell what we are unless you take a look in the pantry. America also has also grown on my mother in a way that makes her want to fit into the rest of the public. Examples of this are her not speaking in her accent outside the home, or showing any representation of her true home. I think this is because of the negative connotation foreigners have, and she has explained this to me before saying “people won't take you seriously or think you deserve better if they know you come from less” (noble). I can't speak much for my fathers' experiences but I do know they are similar.
If some of your family have migrated from other parts of the world, how do they integrate their American identity with their ethnic identity?
I went through that experience a little in question 2 but to add on. The American identity is evident In their day-to-day lives with the rest of society while the ethnic identity is hidden or cast to the side In a way. They feel as though they have to change their way of speaking for others which they do not. We also took on a lot of American things such as food. I love our cultural food but at times I think we get embarrassed to consume it around others so we just succumb to American foods such as; burgers, fries, pizza, etc.
I was born in North Carolina but never lived there, the first 5 years of my life were in Jamaica. My mother wanted it this way so I could automatically be a legal citizen and she could work her way up there while I lived at home. This would categorize me as a black American/ black Caribbean while I have the right to be a citizen in both places, I won't fully be accepted at both. Jamaicans see me as a “Yankee” which is just an American because I've been here for so long and don't relate to the struggles of kids living there now. In America, I'm just black because nobody really thinks about what kind of black you are they just assume it's African. I feel like this puts me behind a two-way mirror because Jamaicans only see the surface and don't understand that I'm just as much a part of their heritage too and it is frustrating. While in America I'll just always be a black girl able to be a subject of racism, discrimination, and prejudice.

CHAPTER 6 FIELDWORK
How long has your family lived in this country?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How long has your family lived in this country?. My father Idris landed in the United States in 1984 settle then used his money to create a grocery shop that sells ingredients and many things African, Caribbean and Latinos can buy to cook at home, and items that people used back from their hometown once he open that shop, he was recognized on newspapers, Many people came to shop and were recognized for being the first to have an African shop in Baltimore City since the African community and people outside of Africa recognized him. Two years later, he settled down with my stepmother Eunice, who is African American, and daughter, Joani, in 1987; they had been married for awhile then. She later got pregnant with my half brother, Idris Jr. raised my brother from birth to a young adult (high-school). In 2001, my mom visited the United States. and met family and went back; then, in 2002, she was gifted a visa from family members and was gifted a ticket from her late brother. Later in 2002, my father divorced my stepmother. then a year later in 2003, he went to a party, and my aunt introduced my mom to my father. They met and got together, and in that same year, Mom got pregnant then, in June 2004. I was born; my Mom worked hard and was a nurse for over 20 years. till this day, on 2010 my father Idris sadly passed away when I was 5, it was just me and mom till this day.
Where did they come from?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nigeria is a West African country it between the Sahel to the north and the Gulf of Guinea to the south in the Atlantic Ocean, it is the most populous country in Africa, and the world’s sixth most populous country. Both of my parents come from different states / town in Nigeria. Both of my parents tribe is Yoruba, my dad is from Oyo State, and my mom is from Ondo State both states have their dialect and speak Yoruba differently. ( I don’t know much about my dad life in Nigeria), my mother went to school with a full family she had older brothers that were making sure she was focused in school and a little sister and younger brother and two family household, she had a job she was farmer and sold chickens and lamb and many animals in her market and also had a job at the airport. My mom was taking care of her nephew who was having a trouble in school in the United States so his mother brought him to the Nigeria to calm down and experience the schools in Nigeria because of my mom taking care of him the mother appreciated my mom being so kind that she gifted my mom a visa and my mom told her late brother he then bought her a ticket but she didn’t want to leave but my grandmother told her to go but my mom was worried because my grandma Is old and needs to taken care of.
Has your family embraced American Nationalism?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, my mother and my African American family has embraced the American patriotism. My mom likes American because she feels like she has more freedom and independence. My family celebrates 4 of July which is not common in Nigeria they take it really seriously because this is time for family time and Thanksgiving is another holiday we celebrate and have a family together, my African American family usually invite me to holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving especially since it’s a great way to celebrate with family since everyone is busy. another holiday that Nigerians celebrate is Easter Sunday, in Easter Sunday my family go to church and pray and lastly my mother embraces the Nigerian culture then USA because that’s her home.
If some of your family have migrated from other parts of the world, how do they integrate their American identity with their ethnicity identity.
Tumblr media
My family connect from food, music, gatherings like church, party, cookout, and American dream. In my culture we eat similar food in west African culture but Nigeria make cuisine like Egusi, Efo Riro, Ayamese (Designer Stew), Ogbono Soup, Ewedu, Okra it goes well with Swallow like for example Eba, Amala, Iyan (Fufu) and Semolina. Jollof Rice, Ofada Rice usually prepared in home but mostly a party favorite. Another one is language for me I speak Yoruba small but I understand it correctly but can’t speak in a full conversation, even though I get judged for speaking English instead of Yoruba I think it’s because I was born and raised in the States but I think even if I don’t speak it I think it’s good that I hear the person. Lastly another popular one is Thanksgiving in Nigerian culture in America is popular in church they have events to come to church and pray and worship together and they give food and stay in church for about 3 or 4 hours (celestial church) this usually happens to family who are religiously wealthy.
