Stupid Little Details I Forgot I Loved About Wreck-it Ralph

Ralph’s teal undershirt. I don’t know who came up with it, or if it was meant to just symbolize his similarities to Vanellope (outcast, looking for some appreciation, in desperate need of hugs & a decent bed) and Felix (good guy, really sweet when you give him a chance, more of a lover than a fighter) or just to give his design a little something to make it all pop, but by God it was the perfect decision!

Felix is a video game character who absolutely hates conflict. He’ll do anything to avoid direct confrontation, and even his gameplay is about mitigating the damage Ralph causes. Which makes his interactions with Calhoun & his outburst in the Fungeon all the more satisfying, as he stands up for himself & refuses to dance around the issues at hand.

The subtle nods to Ralph & Felix’s canon & meta origins as knockoffs of Donkey Kong & Mario respectively. Ralph went through a LOT of changes in early development, but you can see hints of his relation to Donkey Kong in his expressions as he smashes the jawbreaker & when he pounds his chest with excitement as Vanellope taps into her racing skills for the first time.

Calhoun’s hair serving as a metaphor for her emotional state. There were early plans to give her camouflage powers and have her disappear into the background when she got more distressed, but the crew thought it would be a bit too distracting & decided to use her bangs to represent her emotions instead. A wise decision, especially when her hair subtly comes over her eyes during the wedding flashback as she guns down the Cy Bug that ate (and started transforming into) her husband.

Changing my original Vanellope redesign to be a little less of a pain to draw and to look a bit more like a FPS game! I based it mostly around Calhoun’s beta designs, and it lost a lot of the candy theme my old design had, which is a shame.

Fictional couples that have a sexy/really attractive woman, and a shorter but really loving and caring partner my beloved.

I'm looking at these two couples:

Let's just say it, both Jessica and Calhoun are lucky to have a fully functioning, healthy, and happy relationship.

Jessica loves Roger because he makes her laugh, and Calhoun fell for Felix because of his heroic heart.

One last thing, if we can headcannon that Jessica Rabbit is asexual, we could also headcannon that Sargeant Calhoun is asexual too.

I mean both of them are very conventionally attractive because of how they're drawn/animated.

Besides, sexuality is independent of a person’s appearance. Asexuality is also not confined to a stereotypical look, and the same can apply to how couples present themselves too.

What I'm trying to say is, there's no stereotypical look that a person or couple should adhere to.

Love and relationships come in many different forms and are diverse.

And that's why I love these two fictional relationships so much.

Knockout

“E-excuse me,” Felix spoke timidly, trying not to get trampled among the bustle of soldiers making their way out of ‘Hero’s Duty.’ Squeezing off the bullet train, he attempted not to take some of their downward glares to heart; they’d had a long day and had places to be.

“Excuse me, sir,” the handyman locked eyes with one of the imposing figures. “Where might I find Miss Sergeant Calhoun?”

The soldier laughed indignantly, roughly brushing past and onto the train. Frowning, Felix straightened his cap. Now that was just plain rude.

“Hey!” a hand clapped his shoulder, steering him out of the line of traffic. “Careful, wouldn’t want you gettin’ stepped on.”

Felix felt relief as he peered up at a familiar face. “Corporal!” 

“Hey, little man,” Kohut nodded, joined by more of Calhoun’s trusted troops “Did I hear you were looking for Sarge?”

“Oh, yes!” the 8-bit’s heart beat excitedly. “Do you know where she might be?”

The men couldn’t contain their amusement, smiling and exchanging knowing glances. They had already seen the handyman candidly flirt with their superior with her gun to his head, and were infinitely curious about what he would think if he saw her now.

“Right this way,” Kohut grinned. 

Felix was startled as double doors opened to a cacophony of cheers in what looked like a gymnasium. A crowd of soldiers surrounded a ring, where two participants sat in each opposing corner. A bell rang, and the handyman just about did a double-take when the unmistakable figure of Tamora Jean Calhoun stood up.

Instead of her heavy armor, she wore simple, black sportswear and boxing gloves. Goodness, he hadn’t seen this much skin of a person he’d taken a liking to in quite some time. 

“Well, there she is,” Kohut chuckled at the 8-bit’s wide-eyed stare. “What do you think, Shortstop?”

The corporal’s voice was miles away as Felix took in the stunning vision before him, once again captivated by Tamora’s high-definition. The flush of her cheeks from exertion, the beads of sweat clinging to her pale skin, her smooth, graceful movements as she thrust her fist into her opponent’s face…And that’s the other thing he admired so much about her; her intensity. She was passionate, fearless, and didn’t take boo from anybody. In every sense of the word, Tamora was a knockout.

The surrounding crowd collectively recoiled from the sheer force of her hit, and the handyman gulped as the poor soul joining her in the ring fell flat on his back. Kohut and crew leaned in, wondering if the handyman felt he’d flown too close to the sun. 

Clutching a hand to his chest, the 8-bit sighed as cartoon hearts sprouted around him. 

“What a gal”—finally came their answer. 

The men around him erupted with laughter, catching the sergeant’s attention from inside the ring. Felix’s bright blue uniform wasn’t difficult to spot out of the mass of sweat-stained shirts and grungey camo pants. She stared quizzically at those goo-goo eyes of his and the hearts floating around his head, unsure how to respond. 

As she leaned on the ropes, the handyman’s eyes flicked upward, the cartoony shapes popping all at once as he gasped. Hearing movement behind her, Tamora turned to dodge her opponent as he dove in with a hook. And even though the soldier was nearly twice her size, she easily countered him, laying him out.

At the count of three, the match was over. Through all the whooping and hollering, the sergeant patted her humbled troop on the back, again turning her attention to the goofy-grinned handyman who somehow found his way here. She smirked at how pink his face got when he realized she’d spotted him, and with a bit of playful goading from her trusted troops, flexed her arms to show off her muscles.

Felix’s face went cherry red, a bashful smile crossing his lips as he desperately fanned himself. This was all too much for his little 8-bit heart, and he swooned, quite literally. And as his body abruptly met with the floor, the ringside referee tweeted his whistle with a wave of his arms.

“Knockout!”

Corporal Hugo Kohut

Well-read and well-rounded, the erudite Corporal Kohut prefers to be alone with a good book than to join his more boisterous comrades on their escapades, but his door is always open to his fellow marines for a chat about anything that’s getting them down. He’s the sweet to Sergeant Calhoun’s sour, but the two share a deep bond.

Private Jake Markowski

A klutz by program, Private Markowski is the laughingstock of Hero’s Duty. His mishaps don’t stop after the game over screen, and the laughs the other soldiers have shared at his expense have left him with a low sense of self-esteem. He’s crushing on his training partner, Cyndra Sparks, but his antics aren’t making that relationship look very likely.

I think the appeal of such a dynamic lies in how much you want someone to look at you the way Roger and Felix look at Jessica and Calhoun.

I mean, who doesn't want a devoted partner telling them how amazing they are? ;-)

Omfg I adore your au (especially ur turbo design like oh my god it seriously goes hard af) but I was just wondering where Callahan would be in the au? Like since venellope is in sugar blast which is a candy themed shooter would that mean Callahan would be in some sort of dark broody racing game? Just kinda writing my thoughts here lmao

Hello, hello!! I'm so glad ur liking my AU :) and you're actually right on the money, anon! Because Hero's Duty is now indeed a dark broody racing game. So I guess Hero's... Race? Would be more suiting (I'll come up with a better name later).

Sgt Calhoun is now the lead racer of the game, leading her gang of "soldiers" with her badass bike. I haven't figured out an exact story for the game yet? But so far, it's an apocalyptic world where Cybugs has completely invaded the Earth and interrupted a nearby race mid-game at the time of the outbreak. Now Calhoun and her gang of racers must survive and race their way to the tower in order to trigger the beacon! The game mechanics is basically like any other racing game, but you have to try your best to avoid the Cybugs crashing into you and the road.

I based her uniform off of other motorcyclists' suits I found on pinterest. It took me so long to figure the design out, but I like what I got so far!

I would design her bike as well, but I'm not insane, so maybe next time!
