Hi! I just saw the sentient jeagers ask blog of yours, and I must ask... have you read Domovoi by Kenyastarflight on ao3/ffnet? It's the fanfic that got me into the whole sentient jeager trope back in 2021, and it's really, really good. One of the first pacrim fanfics I've ever read, actually. It was insanely popular on FF a long time ago, when the fandom was at its peak, and I can totally see why - it's absurdly funny, well-written, and has good pacing. And a couple of great OCs. Its second part, Doppelganger, is awesome as well (but a bit different from the point of overall plot and narrative).
I think it's one of the most popular (and longest) fanfic series on sentient jeagers out there, and I have an unhealthy amount of love for it, so. Had to ask, as your blog heavily reminded me of it, probably because of the overall vibe.
Haha! Actually! I read the Fic for awhile! I asked the author and I’m actually working on binding a copy for myself! It’s my favorite fic from the fandom!!!
So I’m really happy you asked ^_^ it’s my favorite, and I love it with a deep part of my soul!

Hello all! The Jaegers are open for business, and are raring for some questions! You will find that they have a special visitor with them today!
Tacit Ronin | He/They | He’s an older twenty year old. He enjoys playing pranks with the other Jaegers, and sees his pilots as his family. He enjoys being around Lady Danger and Cherno, being older Jaegers, and can often be found messing with the techs in the Shatterdome.

Every time I remember an Autobot or Decepticon bitch about being stuck on Earth, Animated and Prime are the most frequent, it makes me laugh thinking how easy they got it. Imagine any iteration ending up on a version that is much more chaotic than the norm. Especially if the dangers are hidden or completely normal to humans.
We got JoJo's Bizarre Adventure where you literally can't trust even a simple POWER OUTLET. From stone masks that could turn people into eldritch vampire, pieces of Jesus Christ could give people powers, and martial arts which either turn the circulatory system into a sunlight generator (Hamon) or using the Golden Ratio to shred even dimensions (Spin).
I'm not forgetting about Stand Users either. Every sentient creature could become a Stand User, someone who can project a psychic manifestation of their fighting spirits that could look like anything with abilities that range from giving positive encouragement to stopping time. That weird individual on the street could dissect Megatron into pieces with fucking zippers through their Stand.
How about Resident Evil where the constant threat is viral infections? I'm not talking about the standard zombie virus either. We got mutant undead creating ones, parasitic worms/insects, to fucking hivemind mold. All guaranteed to least spawn mutants like giant man eating salamanders, evolving fanged blobs and even an eldritch dinosaur.
They have to constantly decontaminate base than just troops as a simple small strain could turn a rat into a dog sized menace. Plus all those zombies guts and blood they have to clean up if an infected did get inside. I'm pretty damn sure humans are no longer the gross squishies compared to that.
Last best addition to add is the 'Kaiju Series' i.e Kaiju No. 8, Godzilla/King Kong Monsterverse, and Pacific Rim. Normal Earth fauna doesn't cause much compared to this as kaiju practically made themselves home here. The bots aren't exactly prepared for megafauna being a constant presence and frequent threat.
Kaiju are territorial so their respective ships will get attacked if spotted too close to the creatures' home. Some may also feed on metal and think either faction are potential food. The humans here could potentially kick their afts like Kaiju No 8's Defense Force or Pacific Rim's Jaeger Pilots.
Never take what you have for granted. In the Autobots and Decepticons cases, that is a normal simple Earth. The other possibilities could be much worse.

Pacific Rim au where Sun Moon and Tari are drift compatible and pilot a Jeager Eclipse.
YOUR GIVING US ANOTHER AU 😭 we have so many and this started a new one cuz we LOVE pacific rim
Thinking tho to build off of this, Sun and Moon are pilots, Eclipse is the Jaeger that becomes sentient building off of their coding (only them and Tari are aware) S&M were experiments with seeing if sentient bots could be pilots
Tari is their handler until she disappears suddenly, she was pulled away for another experiment that involved creating their own Kaiju and having them be piloted (if youve seen the episodes Sonnies Edge from Love death and robots think that) she ends up being able to move her mind from her body to the kiaju with ease and is permanently bonded with it, they don’t find this out until their fighting a Kaiju and she shows up and explains to them later why she was forced to disappear
By that point Eclipse is able to jump into S&M body (when they let him at least which is often they just take turns carrying him lol) the compound isn’t aware of this and they plan to keep it that way to not put them and eclipse at risk, so they all bond being weird government experiments to fight Kaijus
We have more might even draw it but this is the basis of what we’ve brainstormed

I am re-reading girl genius and I discovered that at least some jagers are actually older than castle Heterodyne (I mean the entity, not the physical place.... Although that might be the same thing?) any way the point is : older jagers being so very used to the castle's antics that at this point they're more exasperated than anything and treat it like an annoying but endearing younger sibling that they must indulge sometimes. The idea of castle Heterodyne having older siblings and the siblings in question being the Jager Generals and some others is absolutely sending me, I've been thinking about it all morning it's so funny.
bwahaha. >:3
i think (been a while so i forgot a lot of lore) that the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times before faustus uploaded a copy of himself into the last iteration? so there are definitely older jaegers around than at least the sentient version... :3
also i seem to vaguely recall a higgs-looking dude around that one pic of the first heterodyne, so... HMMMMM. did i hallucinate that one? idk.

I love your sentient Pacific Rim stuff!
Will you be touching the spinoff or the (non-existent) sequel Uprising any time soon?
Spinoff? I didn't know there was a spinoff series?? omg
The sequel...uh....honestly more than anything the jaeger names in that were soo. What the hell is November Ajax, or Titan Redeemer...
I would definitely like to draw more jaegers though so maybe i can ignore the names and the plot of that movie and just draw some robots having fun together like its a slice of life anime with the plot of killing big monster

Girl Genius Reaction #2
Hi, hey, been a hot second since I've done one of these but here we go!
I love that the Heterodyne boys have been elevated to this almost folklore-like state where everyone's got a story about them that ranges from "mostly true" to "entirely made up"
Also, Gil's Dad was adventure buddies with the Heterodynes???? I know Theo said he made the story up, but considering it was shown to us like a flashback, I assume there is at least a few kernels of truth to it all
I think I clocked the possible Von Pinn connection. As all the students claim Von Pinn is modeled off of and/or secretly Lucrezia Mongfish (whoever the hell that is), and Lucrezia was name-dropped in Theo's story/flashback and on the receiving end of one of the Heterodyne's love confessions, I'm assuming Von Pinn is thus modeled off of and/or secretly Agatha's mother or aunt. I wonder if that'll ever come up later. Either way, it's nice to know I'm not crazy for thinking Von Pinn and Agatha looked way too similar
Also, I know Agatha probably took the chance to change out of the pants and into a more comfortable skirt while Theo had everyone distracted, but I kind of like the idea that she can just randomly and inexpensively modify her clothes at will with no one noticing
The Baron being concerned about the hive engine being "eighteen years old or brand new?" really caught my attention. Larger scope villain entering the chat? 👀
Theo & co. running into Gil and there's an obvious disconnect about whom hasn't kept in touch with whom, re: Gil saying they'd only ever come to him if they need something vs. Theo saying Gil hasn't answered any of their letters. Betting money that the Baron has been withholding Gil's mail and trying to isolate him for whatever reason.
Whomst is Othar Tryggvassen? Hello? Random man just suspended over the void, every limb chained, giant green globe on his head? WTF???
I do love Agatha's reaction though. "Is it right to leave a fellow sentient strung up like this?" "Well, that depends upon the nature of the experiment..." I love this mad scientist so much
I'm also really loving the Jaegers (Jaegerkin? Jaegermonsters?). They're all so full of personality. And the tension with the Lackya is very delicious
Love the Jaegerkin generals inviting Agatha to supper, saying "It's good, no bugs!" only for another general to say in the most dejected voice "...no bugs?" 🥺
Also, it looks like the Jaegers are officially figuring out that Agatha's a Heterodyne! Gil may believe/know Agatha is a Spark (has the Spark?), but the Jaegers are the only ones connecting the dots to the Heterodyne question. Wonder if they'll tell someone or keep it to themselves.
Also, Jaegers playing matchmaker? "What do you think of the young master?" "What kind of question is that?" "Well it would make things really simple if--" What's their angle there? Hm....
Speaking of ships, I am sending Andre the Jaegermonster to horny jail. I'm with Agatha; Von Pinn doesn't sound interested
Flashback with Uncle Barry was very cute. He obviously didn't want to repress Agatha's powers, but it was probably a matter of safety
Agatha sleep-inventing is very cool, but why's her little sentient robot(s) hiding from her?
Von Zinzer is giving some insight on the larger world. Apparently, there's a series of wars going on? I know the Baron is a ruler and is keeping the school kids as hostages, but I didn't know it's a continuous conquest of what seems to be Europe.
Also, side note, do we ever see the rest of the world? Africa, Asia, Australia, North & South America? I know deep in my bones that this world's version of China would fuck severely.
Dr. Dim and his bears are also very cute. Loved the moment between him and Agatha
The fight between Von Zinzer & Agatha was very fun. As was Gil hiring Agatha on the spot. The friendship is growing!
And finally, the talking cat! My oh my, how will this go from here? It's very obviously sentient, and based on the website's banner, a main character to boot. But what is it? A chimera? A rogue experiment? Someone trapped in a cat's body? Guess I'll find out
Overall: Still really liking the story! It's got me hooked so far and it's building really well on the premise. The story is still obviously finding its footing, but it's still good!
Continued 7.5/10

🚀🤖Pacific Rim and Top Gun (AU)🤖🚀
Tumblr media
Tom Iceman Kazansky, Commander of the Pacific Fleet, the military branch of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, brings back to the Miramar Shatterdome the former Jaeger pilot Pete Maverick Mitchell to teach the new Rangers how to become better Jaeger pilots as well as to combat the Kaiju.
He’s the last known Jaeger pilot alive to have defeated three kaiju, despite the fact he was piloting his Jaeger alone – his former co-pilot Nick Goose Bradshaw had died during a previous simulation exercise leaving Mav without a compatible match, though it didn’t deter Mav from piloting his Jaeger alone to save another Jaeger team – Ron Slider Kerner & Tom Iceman Kazansky...
However, the successful rescue (followed by Iceman’s declaration of undying love and admiration for him – ‘Shut up, Ron! It’s not true!’ had said an unnaturally flustered Ice after Mav and Ice’s wingmen hug moment) left Maverick with severe neurological injuries including phantom memories from Goose as he died while they were still connected to each other.
It’s like having a piece of someone within your body and soul, only that this person is no longer alive, and it could be quite traumatic for somebody new to attempt a drift connection with one-and-a-half person. (Partly why Maverick was shut out from the Jaeger program, that and his famously known chaotic nature, of course.)
Because to able to pilot a Jaeger, you have to share what is known as a drift compatibility with your co-pilot. Drifting requires the pilots to share their memories, instinct and emotions with each other, and it allows them to act as one consciousness and control the very movement of the Jaeger itself, each pilot controlling one hemisphere. While drifting, pilots need to keep their mind clear of all thoughts [psspss like the ‘no mind’ from The Last Samurai! 👼🏻] to avoid R.A.B.I.T – the following of a memory to the point of losing the focus you need to control the Jaeger. As such, drift compatibility is a potential that exists between two people, that is usually determined through sparring exercises in the Kwoon Combat Room, the point is not to beat your opponent but whether or not you’re able to work in sync with each other. {Source: the Pacific Rim Fandom Page about Drift}
Twelve new Rangers are called back to the Miramar Shatterdome, under the command of Marshal Beau Cyclone Simpson. Most of them are already paired up in a Jaeger.
Tumblr media
However, Maverick wants to try some out-of-the-box thinking by changing the designated pair of each Jaeger.  "Because –says Mav reading from a stack of disorganized papers, in front of Cyclone, Warlock, and Iceman– according to research, the Kaiju are sentient beings very much capable of in-depth reasoning, something they weren’t to do before, and, as such, I feel the need, the need to change some shit up to try throwing them off."
Thus begin the tests for new drift-compatible partners…
Before:
The Crimson Typhoon team – Bob, Phoenix, Rooster.
The Striker Eureka team – Coyote & Hangman.
The Gipsy Danger team – Fanboy & Payback.
The Cherno Alpha team – Fritz & Halo.
The Guardian Bravo team – Harvard, Omaha & Yale.
After:
The Striker Eureka team – Rooster & Hangman.
The Bracer Phoenix team – Fritz & Phoenix.
The Gipsy Danger team – Halo, Payback & Yale.
The Crimson Typhoon team – Bob, Fanboy & Omaha.
The Coyote Tango team – Coyote & Harvard.
The Cherno Alpha team – Iceman & Mav. [Even though it's super risky for the two of them, they’ll pilot one last time, and for the first time together, to help assist and rescue the Jaegers teams sent to drop a bomb to close the Breach, cutting the passage between the Earth and the Kaiju homeworld, once and for all.]
Tumblr media
Let’s just say that the changes are not smooth for every pilot. Some get to stay in the Jaeger they’ve known all along, others don’t (let’s say some neural handshakes allowing the drifting function better in a particular Jaeger with a particular pair).
Rooster, for instance, used to be in a three-neural-handshake, and now must share with only one person, the –absolutely "despicable"– flawless Hangman. And Hangman is a bit frustrated ‘cause he used to be the best with his Coyote bro…and now feels like falling behind because of Rooster. So, he may or may not be overly provocative with his new co-pilot who thinks too much and follows the R.A.B.I.T every time he drifts with Hangman. [Nevertheless, before Rooster spirals out of control, there is a very strong neural handshake, the strongest ever registered. They just need to sort their shit out first.]
Bonus Hangster Conversation
(inspired by my beloved Chaleigh babes' stellar conversation in the movie)
Hangman: So you're the guy, eh Rooster? You're the guy who's going to be my new co-pilot?
Rooster: Yeah, Hangman. That's the plan.
Hangman: Good. Good. So, remind me again. When was the last time you jockeyed, Brad?
Rooster: You know very well it was three months ago with Tasha and Bobby…’Cause you were there!
Hangman: Colour me shocked with the way you weren’t able to stop following the R.A.B.I.T earlier…Looked like you were a Jaeger groupie just given the opportunity to pilot a Jaeger for the first time of his life. You’re a Ranger, act like one!
Rooster: Excuse-me for taking the time to feel the new Jaeger and my new co-pilot! It’s easy for you to say! Let me reorganize my feathers or something before jumping into it!
Hangman: Oh, wow, that's great. I mean, that's really useful. We get into a fight, you can build our way out of it with wings, as we won’t move a single hair of our Jaeger, eh, Brad?
Rooster: It's Bradley.
Hangman: Whatever. Look, I know you’re Commander Kazansky and Ranger Mitchell’s golden goose, but to me, so far, you're dead weight. You slow me down, I'm gonna drop you like a sack of Kaiju shit. *fingers guns and winking combo followed by dramatic exit*

Saw your Monsterlander prompts and was like oh sentient suit that's cool he'd be insufferable like that, I bet he'd know all your base instincts. And then it spiralled into a not exactly well though-out Pacific Rim au and now I'm going insane thinking about the possibility of Homie being like the first 'single-person jaeger' pilot to exist as he's been expirimented on with Kaiju dna and you're like his physical therapist because he needs one to keep him in top shape and oops it looks like y'all are Drift Compatible after he goofs off and shows you one of the simulated tests they do for other pilots....... many such cases I fear
holy shit! i just had like a venom situation in mind but anon your BRAIN. yes absolutely. i love pacific rim au's. 'drift compatible' is one of the most incredible evergreen concepts to emerge from media in decades.
i appreciate that you still managed to make him a genetically fucked up lab rat in this au. 100/10

do you have anything planned for the pacific rim dca au?
i love pacific rim so much, so when i saw your drawing i got so excited by just the idea of an au of it
YES I DOOOO NONNIE OMGG shaking ur hand i have so much brainrot
im so excited for it bc i LOVEE pacific rim, literally THE giant robot movie of all time. the au im thinking of will be a liiiitle different tho! like instead of being drift compatible with another human to pilot the jaeger, itll be smthn abt a human handler needing to be drift compatible with the jaeger itself >:3c bc they are of course ✨sentient giant robots✨ so… it wont be quite one-on-one to pacific rim, but im hoping the twists i add to it will be worthwhile!!

Out of curiosity, do you have any little tidbits or facts for the protectobots as individuals? Like where they're from or just random headcanons you have? They all look so lovely!
Non-character tidbit: Working in them means me blasting “Baba O’Riley” by The Who for 35277473784 times. It’s the team theme song in my head.
Character tidbits:
- I believe Hotspot/Hassan is First Aid/Fatima’s uncle on her paternal side. Which ups his sense of duty/protectiveness over her even more when they’re on the field (they’re very close).
- Hassan was stationed in San Francisco until he moved across the pond to the UK for a fresh start after the incident which left him with those scars. He climbed the ranks to Fire Battalion Chief of the Dead End, which is how he comes to know of Omar/OP and worked hand-in-hand with Omar to care for the ‘forgotten’ borough. Like Omar, he has many men loyal to him, even when he was fired from his position for refusing to take part in the cover up of several arsons targeting public projects/businesses intended to be destroyed to make way for gentrified condos.
- Hassan is Muslim (converted shortly after his brother/Fatima’s father did).
- Fatima’s father is black and her mother is Omani (She was raised in Oman for her formative years) and not a day goes by that they don’t worry about their little dove out on on dangerous field work! But doves are meant to fly and they can only hope that she comes home to roost safe after every mission (she always calls them after debriefing to let them know she’s alright).
- Fatima holds the Hippocratic Oath sacred to her and will not take a life, even as Ronan/Ratchet has no issue bending it to the situation (they have an understanding that they have different approaches) and shooting anyone who threatens his patients in the face (his parents were good people like First Aid, killed in the line of duty, and he’ll afford the world as much mercy as it affords him and those under his care). But, as she’ll let Pharma know , she can be more flexible about things like, say kneecaps.
- Streetwise/Shamar and Blades/Beltran are from New York, and are bash bros/best friends.
- Streetwise has police academy training but upon graduating, went into private detective work instead (he’ll say he just wanted the skills, not the badge, but he’s also actually seeking out his cousin Jazz, who he had been desperately trying to reunite with). He and Nightbeat work together in a joint private detective agency.
- Groove/Go-Eun moved from Busan to the UK to get away from her family and is the one who’s aloof/initially has a hard time adapting to team life.
- Meanwhile Beltran is rabid and will drop all the bodies for his pack.
- Initially they’re an independent rescue division who work in sync with each other.
- Near the end of the war when facing Unicron however, Rung finds a way to repurpose old Quintesson tech—the same kind used for off-world colony Titans except in a smaller scale—to manipulate their modes of rescue transport and have them form ‘Defensor’, a mini-Titan of sorts which all five of them drive like Jaeger pilots (yes, they need to mind-link!) to safeguard at-risk cities. Defensor, like Caminus and Unicron (formerly Antilla), has a sentient AI formed from different facets of their personalities—Hassan’s integrity, Shamar’s sense of brotherhood, Beltran’s tenacity, Fatima’s kindness and Go-Eun creativity/calm under pressure—and is like a big ol’ Great Pyrenees around them.

pspspsps tell us more about the dragons pspsps. Do the dragons see their riders as siblings since they grew up together? Are Sinclair and Queen bonded since they werent raised together?
DRAGON RIDERS: yes and no? i hadn't been mentally comparing them to siblings as such, though it's probably not far off; dragons and riders have a kind of exclusive interpersonal bond that is hard to categorize by comparison. think, like, pacific rim jaeger pilots, almost, but if the jaeger was also sentient. dragons are dubiously sentient in the SoA universe: they're not unintelligent, but so many of their mental pathways and communication methods are fundamentally alien from how humans operate that they're not really thought of as one-to-one the same thing.
when left to their own devices dragons communicate mainly through a dragon-specific body/sign language that could be compared to human sign languages (they've developed a modified (lack of tail wings etc) version of this to communicate with humans) and a sort of natal version of the neural link, which bonds mothers to their children - in dragons this fades quickly with age, but when humans originally arrived on alcoritrés they began to develop over the generations a kind of permanent interspecies version of it - sort of like how cats will meow at humans as they would their kittens.
the kind of dragon-rider neural bond that's seen in the Institute is cultivated specifically for combat reasons and isn't particularly common to see in other places: most "civillian" bonds are either a milder version of an infant bond, developed over extended exposure and/or a shared violent trauma (this is what Sinclair and Queen have), or a "true" infant bond, which often occurs when a baby and a wyrmling are raised together in a place where they have regular contact. outside of the institute dragons are treated as free citizens alongside humans, and while not a universal standard by any means, joint dragon/human households or communes are common enough to be thought of as fairly normal.
civilian infant bonds are made of the same building blocks as Institute bonds, but civilians are not exposed to the same kind of rigorous lifelong bonding and training exercises as Institute kids, and thus their bonds very rarely reach the same complexity and depth - unless in some scenario in which they were left alone and had to depend on the other for survival, hunting, etc. Institute dragon/rider pairs are very much thought of as "freaks" by their respective populations - the riders are too 'dragon' and the dragons are too 'human'.
human riders are stereotyped as stoic and odd - in reality they share a kind of sub-dialect of the human commontongue and dragon body-language that often results in them communicating the same ideas with far fewer spoken words. Institute dragons are 'othered' much the same by the outside dragon population - they have uncommonly 'human' mannerisms and often default to speaking in a dialect of their body-language that is modified to read easier to humans, and relies more heavily on complex forelimb signals than movement of dragon-specific anatomy like tails and wings.
