Oh my, where to begin with this one. I am very nervous to let this one out of the safe embrace of my stories folder on my laptop and into the public, but I think I am finally satisfied with it. This has been in the works since…June(??) of 2022? Sometime around then? It has been my baby ever since. One plot bunny of an image of an angry Satine at a ball and 6,000 words later…here we are with quite possibly my favorite Obitine one-shot yet. It is best read while listening to some moody music, perhaps “Silver Springs” by Fleetwood Mac, or “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” by Taylor Swift…Set post-Rako Hardeen arc, at a senate gala. I don’t want to reveal too much, but put yourself in a dark, betrayed, rainy, maroon mood, and settle in for the yearning that is Obitine. *cries* Posting for Satine Week Day 6: “Mercy” (also please let me know what you all think of this fic in the comments, I am uncharacteristically nervous posting this!) @satineweek

@satineweek 2022! Day 3: Senate Gala (+ a few hints of War and Peace)
Padmé thinks she's introducing two of her good friends at a Senate gala on Coruscant. Turns out, they already seem to know each other. And they promptly forget she exists once they're in each other's orbit again.
-.-.-
Oh hey! On top of this covering yesterday’s prompt for Satine Week, this is also a response to Tumblr user @voidartisan who's post said, and I quote, "Honestly, a plot i would LOVE to see for a fanfic or something of Padme accidentally trapping herself with her good friends Obi-Wan and Satine, totally unaware of their history, and ending up third-wheeling."
I've had that saved in my drafts since I saw it cause I knew I wanted to write it. Turns out it works pretty well with a Senate Gala!
Enjoy the read!

This was not how Padmé had expected her night to go.
The invitation to Satine, on the surface, was a Senate ploy to try to get Mandalore to join the Republic. Padmé, knowing the Duchess well enough, knew such a hope was pointless, but would absolutely take advantage of the opportunity to spend time with another young ruler like herself. Neither of them had enough free time to be proper friends, but she considered the woman one of her closest allies despite her extreme view of pacifism that surpassed even Padmé’s.
The Jedi, on the other hand, had been assigned here as security detail—something about the Senate receiving threats and wanting to make sure everything was on the up-and-up. She had been looking forward to seeing him again. It had been eight years since he had helped her liberate her planet, losing his master in the process. She would forever be grateful for him. Somehow, their paths had never crossed in all that time apart, despite them both spending a significant portion of their lives here on Coruscant.
The gala itself had started off strong, which was a relief to Padmé. As one of the youngest senators, there wasn’t much they trusted her with yet. Arranging this party was something of a trial run, though of course they’d never outright tell her that. She’d rather be making waves in committee or giving moving speeches during a senate session, real senate work, but even so, she knew her success (or failure) tonight would be an important step in her political career.
So, with everyone happily conversing, sipping their fizzy drinks and showing off their lavish clothes, Padmé could finally sit back and enjoy her hard work.
It was refreshing to chat with Obi-Wan again. He had looked awfully bored standing in the corner with nothing to do, having already checked for any lingering threats and declared the gathering secure. The other senators gave him a wide berth, sending only fleeting glances in his direction, which obviously set him on edge. She supposed it had something to do with his reputation as the “Sith Killer,” a title which meant next to nothing to the average lofty diplomat aside from sounding vaguely menacing.
But she knew what it truly meant. What it cost him to gain that title. She owed everything to him.
“—yes, there’s talk of me being put on the Council, if you can believe it,” he was saying, sounding much more jovial than he had appeared to be from afar. “It won’t be any time soon, of course, but they evidently have their eye on me. If I’m being honest, it’s a bit stifling—"
“Padmé, there you are,” a woman’s voice broke in, sounding slightly out of breath. “I’ve been trying to find you, the senator from Ryloth hasnt left me alone all evening. I—Oh—”
Padmé turned to see Satine, somehow only looking the tiniest bit disheveled after squeezing through the crowd from the other side of the room. Her eyes had landed on the other person present in their little corner, and she quickly lifted her hands to smooth down her blond hair.
Interesting…
“Satine!” Padmé greeted her, pulling her closer by the hand, “I was just catching up with my friend here.” She stepped back to allow her to join the conversation. “I’m sorry, I should introduce you. Duchess, this is Knight Kenobi—”
“Obi-Wan,” Satine said before Padmé could finish. It was almost like she hadn’t heard her in the first place. “It’s… so good to see you.”
Obi-Wan was looking right back at her, and there was something different about his eyes, about the way he was standing suddenly. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
“Satine. You look…” he trailed off, and Padmé thought she surely must be seeing things when she caught his eyes wander the length of her dress down to her heels before he straightened and settled his gaze back on her face. “It’s wonderful to see you as well. It’s been far too long.”
Now that was very interesting.
“Do you two know each oth—”
“How have you been?” Obi-Wan spoke suddenly, completely drowning out Padmé’s question. Though by this point, she figured she knew the answer anyway. How odd, since she’d known both of them separately for so long. It was like seeing your tutor at the market, these two entirely separate worlds somehow colliding together.
“I’m well, thank you. Especially now that I’ve gotten away from the crowd.”
Obi-Wan laughed. Laughed. “I imagine so. You know these types of things were never my forte. I think we have that in common.”
“Oh, I know we do.” Satine was smiling more than Padmé had ever seen her smile. It made her look… relaxed, unburdened. That was rare for someone who had so much on their shoulders. Padmé knew that from experience.
“And you? I see you are a full-fledged knight, now. Congratulations.”
Obi-Wan bowed slightly and stepped forward a step. Padmé stepped back one. “I am, and I have a padawan of my own, in fact.”
“Do you?”
It was at this point that Padmé began to wonder if she ought to give them some privacy. The way it was going, it was like Padmé wasn’t even there. Not that she liked being the center of attention all the time, she was just… used to it. And this was a very different feeling.
“Yes, his name is Anakin.”
She stepped back another step. If she didn’t go now, it would only get more awkward.
“In fact, Padmé here has met him.”
Padmé’s eyes blew wide, stumbling slightly as Obi-Wan’s hand settled on her shoulder and inadvertently kept her from her escape. “What?” was her instinctive response. She wasn’t expecting them to bring her back into this conversation. She’d honestly been banking on the fact that they’d forget she was there altogether. “Oh, yes. Yes, he was a very sweet little boy.”
Obi-Wan huffed a laugh, folding his arms across his chest. “Not so much anymore. Neither little nor sweet, that is.”
“Oh dear,” Satine responded with a barely concealed giggle, covering her mouth with her fingers.
“I’m convinced that Qui-Gon is punishing me from beyond the grave for something I must have done in my youth. These teenage years have been rough.”
Satine gave him an admonishing look. “Oh, you love him anyway, I can tell.”
“I don’t—” Oh, right. The Jedi and their attachments. “Well, I am quite proud of him, I’ll say. He’ll certainly be a Jedi of the highest caliber, as soon as he mellows out a bit.”
Satine let out an airy laugh, making Obi-Wan seem rather pleased with himself.
“How old is he?”
“Seventeen,” he answered with exaggerated weariness. “He’s going to put me in an early grave.”
Satine sent him a sympathetic look. “My nephew Korkie just turned thirteen. I’ve raised him since he was a baby, and he’s always been very sweet. I’m almost afraid to see how these next few years will go.”
Obi-Wan raised his eyebrows. “Well, so long as he doesn’t sneak out his window in the middle of the night, commandeer a speeder lift to the underground levels of Coruscant, and illegally enter a podrace, I think you’re doing pretty well.”
That… sounded like Anakin.
“He did that?” Satine exclaimed incredulously.
Obi-Wan hummed in the affirmative. “Twice. Said he had to go back for the finals.”
“He does sound like trouble.”
“Oh, that’s just the tip of the iceberg…”
Obi-Wan continued his rather impressive list of Anakin’s exploits, and as he did, Padmé couldn’t help but feel like a little child again in a room full of adults. There were a lot of things she did when she was still a kid that made her seem much more grown up than she was, namely ruling an entire planet. But then there were times like this when she still felt like the odd one out. There were life experiences she hadn’t come close to having, nor had she even considered. It made it hard to relate. Would it be completely rude if she snuck away now?
They weren’t that much older than her, were they? She was twenty-one, and a Senator. Her people had elected her to office and kept her there, happy with her leadership and passion for good policymaking.
Yet here these two were airing out their grievances about raising teenagers, when half the time Padmé still felt like one herself. It wasn’t all that long ago that she’d run around making questionable decisions and recklessly putting her life in danger, just like Anakin was apparently wont to do.
How was it possible that she’d felt more mature as a 14 year old than she did now?
That’s the thing about teenagers, she supposed. They think they know everything, and then when they’re thrown out into the real world, they realize just how little they actually know.
“Goodness, you must be a saint,” Satine responded to his tirade, brows raised in disbelief.
Obi-Wan shrugged at her praise, but the way his mouth quirked at the corner betrayed his true feelings. “I’m not sure any of the other masters could have handled it. Plenty tried to take him from me in the early years. Now they probably thank every star in the galaxy that I refused to part with him.”
Satine placed a hand on Obi-Wan’s arm. “I’m sure he’ll appreciate everything you’ve done for him someday soon. It sounds like you’ve raised him since he was quite young.”
“Nine, yes,” Obi-Wan answered, nodding his head. “We’re kind of on our own in the temple. He’s not like most other padawans, you see. He has a mother back on Tatooine. That makes him… different.” Padmé knew what he meant by that. Most Jedi, she’d come to learn, had little to no memory of their birth family. The same wasn’t true for Anakin. “I’ve practically been a father to him all these years. He needed that more than most of the younglings.”
Satine froze for a second, then removed her hand from Obi-Wan’s arm and placed it back at her side, clenching and unclenching it nervously. But as soon as Padmé noticed this odd behavior, her usual confident exterior had returned.
“Was it at least as rewarding as it was exhausting?” the Duchess asked hopefully.
Obi-Wan breathed, gazing off to some indistinct point on the other side of the room. “Even more so, surprisingly. You’d think it impossible. But he’s my pride and joy.”
That earned a smile, though there was something like sadness in it. Why? Padmé had no idea.
“I’m glad to hear it. Perhaps that bodes well for me. I’m nothing if not perseverant. I’m sure I can handle whatever Korkie’s teenage years have in store.”
The Jedi nodded in agreement. “Oh, I’m certain you can. You call me a saint when here you’ve been raising your nephew while leading an entire star system?”
“I’ve had plenty of help,” Satine gave as a caveat. “He’s leaving in a few weeks to start classes at the Academy. He’ll be boarding there throughout the week and I’ll miss him so.”
“Is he a troublemaker?” Obi-Wan asked, earning a surprised laugh from Satine.
“Oh, no. He couldn’t be.”
Obi-Wan raised a doubtful eyebrow. “I’d never rule it out. You might be surprised what an otherwise prim and proper young boy can get up to. I once stole a ship and went on an unsanctioned mission to a living planet that tried to obliterate everyone on it.”
Padmé could almost see Satine’s already pale face whiten a few shades. “That’s… good to know.”
It was quiet a moment, and Satine seemed to really think through what he had said.
“I’m sure he’ll be fine,” Obi-Wan assured her, waving off her concern. “I’d like to meet him one day.”
Satine’s stared hard into what must be a particularly interesting piece of floor.
“And I, Anakin. Though maybe I could stand to wait a couple more years first,” she finished with a small smile.
The Jedi laughed again. Padmé was glad he hadn’t lost the ability to do so in the wake of what happened to his master.
“I think that may be for the best,” he chuckled, eyes twinkling in the lights from beyond the window. “I’d like for him to make a good first impression.”
Slowly, in an attempt to remain as invisible as possible, Padme shuffled backwards. An absolutely ridiculous amount of time had passed since either of her companions had acknowledged her presence, and it was frankly quite amusing. There was something strange between the two of them, some mysterious past that Padmé was sure she’d never learn the whole truth of.
She could ask Satine, maybe, but—
“I like your hair—”
—nope, this was too personal. Padmé was out. Thank you. Goodbye.
At long last, she successfully slipped away. Though a part of her was worried they’d catch up with her later and ask her why she’d left without saying a word, that turned out to be a nonissue. Neither of them was seen for the rest of the night.
-.-.-
It wasn’t until years later when Anakin was enthusiastically telling her about some argument Obi-Wan had been in with the Duchess of Mandalore that she started to put some of the pieces together. Satine had evidently been furious at Obi-Wan for his role in the war, which wasn’t surprising to anyone who knew her stance on peace. But the way Anakin described their argument…
It just sounded unusual, that was all. Not like the typical fights you hear between people with wildly different ideologies. There was something… else.
War and peace.
She couldn’t think of anything that embodied the two of them more. And yet, as contrary as one idea was to the other, they seemed to orbit each other endlessly. Like some gravitational force hovered in the middle that had them both captured in its pull. Something more powerful than both of them, more powerful even than the forces of war and the struggle to maintain peace.
One day, she’d understand. One day it would be that same unfathomable force binding her to Anakin even when logic rejected it. And in that moment, they would test the limits of that force—one final trial to see if it truly could conquer all.
She hoped it could.

"Honey, cross your legs."
"Honey, sit up straighter."
"Honey, we're at a gala, not a summer blowout in the Maldives."
These were just a few of the many phrases your mother chirped at you since you arrived at this stupid gala. You didn't even want to go, but your mother preached something about how, "we needed to be a united front since your father was going for reelection as a New York senator" or something like that.
It was stupid. Nobody gives a shit about familial ties; they care about your values, goals, and accolades. But there's no arguing with your mother; she's as stubborn as they come.
So, you'd sit pretty, legs crossed, with a pristine posture, biting your tongue when she says you could be sitting straighter or you could smile more. Granted, it was only a couple of hours, and if it kept your mother from turning the world around you into hell personified, you'd gladly plaster a rictus smile to appease her.
"Oh, there's Bruce!" Your mother quietly says between you and your father. "Let's go say hello," she says, gripping your hand and pulling you out of your chair, gesturing for your father to follow along.
Somewhere along the way, your parents move in front of you, sequestering you behind them. So once you all reach Bruce, he only takes notice of them, issuing a polite welcome and thanks for their attendance. Your mother swivels her head to see you tucked away behind her, bringing her hand out, gesturing for you to come in front.
"Hello, Mr. Wayne," you politely say, sticking your hand out, before introducing yourself. He grasps your hand with only a slight hesitation.
"Pardon my shock. I just haven't seen you since you were two," he confesses. You smile, pulling your hand back before your mother steps next to you and places her hand on your shoulder.
"She's grown quite a lot since then, Bruce. Still a little air-heady, but I'm hopeful the more she ages, the more my personality will rub off on her," she laughs, carefully wiping a piece of loose hair away from your face. You should feel offended, but the way her joke landed so poorly, making Bruce lightly cough the awkwardness away, made you feel pity.
"You know Selina," he says, filling in the silence, gently placing his hand on her waist as she delicately sticks her hand out for your father to shake.
Who wouldn't know Selina Kyle? She was drop-dead gorgeous but as sharp as they came. She was dressed to the nines in a designer black floor-length dress. It must have been Celine or Givenchy, so it was definitely over five thousand dollars, which is just pocket change to a guy like Bruce Wayne.
"Pleasure," she coos, pulling her hand away. Her gaze shifts to your mother, slightly narrowing her eyes. It seems your mother is oblivious to Selina's adversary towards her because she eagerly sticks her hand out, ready for Selina to shake.
"Selina. So good to see you." But, instead of shaking your mother's hand, she crossed her arms over her chest
"Mhm. I wish I could say the same," Selina sharply replied before Bruce put his hand on her shoulder in warning. You gave Selina a small smile, smothering it with your hand. She covered her own with her champagne glass as she took a sip.
"She's joking," Bruce amends, signaling for a waiter going around with glasses of alcohol. "Champagne?" He asks, reaching for two glasses from the waiter before handing them to your parents.
Before any more conversation can occur, a man calls for Bruce. "Bruce," The man says, "When do you want to start?" The man questions. Bruce picks up his arm, turning his wrist to check his watch.
"He said he'd be here by now," Bruce sighed, rubbing his temples with his fingers. His eyes were scanning around in search of something—rather someone. He does, however, spot Alfred, who he calls over and asks if he'd seen a guy named Jason.
"It was humorous of you to assume Master Todd would abide by your schedule, Master Wayne," Alfred remarks, his face stone-cold. Bruce checks the time on his watch again, then scans the crowd again.
"Just start the silent auction. I suppose Jason will come when he comes," Bruce suspires, clearly agitated. "See you at the auction," he chimes to you and your parents as he sticks his arm out for Selina to take.
"See you," your mother cheerfully says, though you know the cheeriness is just a facade because once Bruce and Selina walk away, your mother instantly drops the smile.
"Can you believe that woman? She was a criminal for God's-sake. She should be thankful that people like us even mingle with her." Your mother scoffs at your father. He hums along, paying relatively no mind to what she is saying.
While she goes on a tangent about how Selina is just using Bruce to get to his billions, you notice a dark figure heading toward the fire escape that you assume leads to the roof. You don't know why, but your brain is fluttering with the idea that you must follow it. So, you do just that.
"I have to use the bathroom," you interrupt, gently touching your mother's hand. You turn your head away from her, not bothering to turn back when she calls your name.
You walk around a corner to see the fire escape latch slightly ajar. Reaching out, you grasp the level and push it out, quickly feeling the chilly Gotham air touch your cheeks.
Once your foot touches the stone with a 'clack' from your heels, you see the dark figure lying down, smoke clouding around him. He glances over at you, taking a drag of his cigarette and letting out a cloud of smoke.
"Didn't think pretty girls would come up here." This mystery guy's voice is deep, and judging by his figure, you can tell he's lanky.
"You know the latch and all."
"Are you calling me incompetent?" You cock a brow, hand on your hip with your purse in hand.
"No, I'm callin' you pretty," he says casually, taking another drag of his cigarette, not sparing you another glance. You hate to admit it, but this guy is pretty smooth, but you wouldn't tell him that.
"Who are you?" You ask, taking a few steps toward him and only turning your head to look at the night sky, which is aglow with billions of little stars. You see all the high-rise buildings, light illuminating the dark streets. It's a shame Gotham is so corrupt and unlawful.
"I should be askin' you that, seeing as you’re on my roof," he tentatively says. You can just feel the smugness in his tone, making you roll your eyes.
"You're a Wayne?" You question, arms crossed, slowly stepping closer to him.
"Somethin' like that I guess," he shrugs, which makes you let out a light laugh.
"You guess? You don't know your own family lineage?" You joke, moving to sit not completely next to him but close enough that you could feel the smoke in your nose. You could also see the outline of his face—strong jaw, pretty eyes, fluttery lashes, and nice lips.
"Why are you so curious?" He glances at you with a sly smirk on his lips. You look at him, then at the cigarette in between his fingers.
"You know smoking kills," you inform, pointing towards the cigarette. He lays his head back on the roof, his lips curving into a smirk before retaking another drag.
"You know what else kills? Poking your head around where you don't belong," he puffs out the smoke as he speaks. You turn your head away from him, trying to conceal your smile. This guy is something else, you think.
"Jason," he adds.
Your eyes widen, and your lips quirk. "Ah, you're Jason." You drag out the 'you're,' getting Jason to turn his head towards you. An inquisitive look is plastered on his face.
"So you've heard of me?" He cockily says.
"I know enough about you to know you're flakey," you raise a brow. He lets out a soft laugh.
"Mr. Wayne was looking for you, and so was everyone else," you clarify.
"Oh, please don't tell on me," he fake pleads, clearly being sarcastic. "Especially to Mr. Wayne."
You roll your eyes, though your lips threaten to smile. "I'm sensing some sarcasm."
"Well, aren't you just a modern-day Poirot.”
You widen your eyes, raising your hands. "Wait, wait. You read classic literature?" You gawk, hand coming to your chest.
"I dabble," he shrugs nonchalantly. You eye him, lip quirking.
"Well, aren't you just full of surprises?" You say, holding your two fingers out, gesturing to his cigarette. "Let me take a puff," you insist.
"Ah, ah," he tuts. "What happened to 'smoking kills?'" He raises a brow, taking a puff of the cigarette himself.
"Sue me, but I'm curious," you shrug. He eyes you, wondering if you're joking. He gives you his cigarette anyway. You take a long drag, feeling the smoke cloud your lungs.
"Easy, easy," Jason warns. "Don't take too much, or you'll—" Before he can finish, you start violently coughing, feeling your eyes well up with tears. "Cough," he finishes, taking the cigarette from your hand as you go to cover your mouth.
"You like this shit?" You say through harsh coughs.
"You get used to it," he answers, not paying attention to the question. He's more concerned about you. "You okay?" His tone isn't condescending—it carries empathy.
"Ya, ya. Took too much," you shyly smile, hiccuping a little, turning your head to look directly at him. He laughs lowly. His laugh is deep and gravelly but still sounds kind. You gulp. God, were you getting turned on by a laugh?
You were facing him head-on, and even in the shitty lighting, you could see the way his Adam's apple bobbed up and down and the way his jaw clenched. Your eyes slowly drift down his face, falling on his lips. He had stuck his tongue on his lips to wet them, giving them a glistening sheen.
"Are you thinkin' about me?" His voice is dry. You sharply move your eyes to bore into his, sticking your tongue out to wet the seam of your own lips.
"And what if I am?" You challenge. Suddenly, you can feel your own heartbeat, and your hands are clammy. You can see the gears in his brain working, trying to figure you out.
"Well, are you?" He asks roughly, putting his cigarette out on the roof. You search his eyes, gently biting your lip. His eyes follow you the whole time.
"Guess," you quipped. You hadn't realized you had scooted closer to him, close enough to where he could if he wanted to touch you. This little banter you guys had was getting you wetter by the minute. It was odd. You'd never even met this guy, but you would let him kiss you, maybe even more.
His gaze drifts from your eyes to your lips. "If I were to put my hand under your dress, what would I find?" He gruffly says. Your eyes drift back to his lips, and you bite your own as your chest rises and falls rapidly.
"What would I find?" He urges a little more assertively this time. You rapidly avert your eyes back to him, taking note of the blue hue in his eyes, which has seemingly grown darker.
"Maybe you should find out, Jason," you encourage. Once you give him the go, he's quick to move closer, crushing his lips to yours roughly. It was unlike anything you've ever felt before—like a ton of dynamite just erupted in you, leaving you feeling a buzz on your skin.
You reached up to grab the back of his neck, pushing him further on your lips. He groans as you sink one of your hands into his hair, gripping your waist in his hands and pulling you so you straddle his lap.
"Do you hook up with every girl you just meet?" You murmur into his lips, slipping your tongue between the seam of his moist lips.
"You hook up with every guy you just meet?" He imitates, in between breaths, gripping your waist tighter as you tug on the roots of his hair harder.
"Touché," you whisper, breathing labored as he presses deep kisses down your neck. He works his way down until he is kissing the top of your breast. Slowly, he brings his hands up to slip the strap of your dress down, exposing your breasts.
He kisses a straight line down the top of your breast to your sensitive nipple. His mouth is hot on your skin, especially in a place so sensitive. You moan as his mouth fully encompasses your nipple, lightly sucking, sending goosebumps down your skin.
You reach for his tie, grab it with your hand, hurriedly untie it, and throw it to the side before carefully undoing the few buttons on his jacket.
"It's a shame no one got to see your suit," you murmur as Jason returns his lips to yours, pressing feverish kisses into them before slipping his tongue into your mouth.
"Ya? Why's that?" He mumbles against your lips, as his hands fumble with his zipper trying to pull it down. You slid the jacket off of Jason's shoulder.
"Because you look fucking hot," you say, looking into his eyes, noticing the way his pupils dilate, hunger written all over his face. He quickly slips his slacks down, along with his boxers. Fumbling with the pocket of his jacket, he grabs a condom.
"Really?" You scowl, as he rips open the gold packaging with his teeth, slipping it on himself.
"What? Don't give me that look," he urges, pooling your dress up around your waist, sliding your panties to the side, as he guides the head of his cock inside your glistening cunt.
"Don't act like it didn't come in handy," he appeals as his cock slips inside you easily. You both groan at the contact, gripping each other tighter.
"Fuck, you were wet. Just slipped right in," he grits as you rock yourself against him, desperate for more friction. His hand is in your hair, pushing your face towards his to share messy, hot kisses as his other hand helps you set a pleasurable pace.
You throw your head back as he thrusts into you, eliciting a moan from you. "Fuck, Jason," you mewl as you feel his lips back on your breast, sucking and nipping with his teeth. Your hands grip tighter in his hair, hoping this will give you some kind of stability.
"Feels so good. So fuckin' good," Jason groans as he feels you clamp around him. You press your lips back to his, aching to feel the vibrations of his groans against your face. He grips the sides of your face to deepen the kiss, his teeth clashing with your own.
You continue going up and down on his cock, occasionally he thrusts himself into you to satisfy his urges and lets you grind against him to chase your own high. He takes your nipple into his mouth one last time before you moan so loud you're surprised the Gotham City Police isn't called, and Jason is spewing curses and groans as you both come.
Your bodies are both buzzing and twitching. Chests heaving so heavily you're suprised your hearts didn't just bust straight out of your chests. Jason pulls out once you aren't panting as hard, guiding you off his cock as you fix your dress. He slips the condom off, groaning at the touch, before tying it at the end. Then, he slips his jacket back on along with his slacks.
You haphazardly stand, holding onto Jason's shoulder to keep your balance. Once you gain stability, you awkwardly cough out a bye, unsure on how to make this any less weird and head back towards the fire escape. You only turn when you hear him say something. Turning on your heels, you look back at him, still in the same spot.
"I, uh, never caught your name?" He yells, his hand scratching the back of his neck.
"Didn't throw it, Jason," you shout back, making a lopsided smile grow on his face. Then, turning to go back through the fire escape, you catch a smile spread across your face as well.
Maybe being forced to attend one of Bruce Wayne's galas wasn't so bad.

The thought rings through your mind as you’re sitting in Qimir’s lap, lips intertwined with his. His hands grasp the back of your head and the side of your thigh, while yours tug on the nape of his neck and run through his perpetually messy hair.
It’s screwed up that you’re thinking of the master you and Qimir share at a moment like this, but it’s impossible not to.
If your master finds out you’re about to bed the guide he assigned to you, he may never let you see him again. A deeper fear gnaws at you; he might not only kill you for breaking some unspoken protocol, but also Qimir.
But it’s worth the risk, one you’re both willing to take.
Consequences be damned, because Qimir’s been undressing you with his eyes all night.
The same sweet, goofy Qimir who always greets you with a lopsided grin, constantly annoys you about drinking enough water, and trips when he walks up the stairs or even flat ground.
But tonight’s circumstances were different. Both of you were dressed up formally to infiltrate a Senate Gala undercover.
Him, working as a waiter, his signature disheveled hair temporarily tamed in a small bun and wearing a uniform that highlighted his broad shoulders you weren’t accustomed to. You, adorning a floor-length red halter dress that hugged your body in all the right places.
The second he saw you step into the ballroom, he stammered into his ear-piece (“Wow, you look—wow.”). And when you blended in by grabbing a drink from his tray, his eyes could not help but roam your body. Your exposed shoulders, the expanse of your bare back, and the amount of leg showing with your high slit.
After finishing your tasks for the night, you two stormed off in the Exile II to a nearby planet, seeking refuge at a run-down safehouse. What began as winding down with a few drinks soon morphed into spontaneous slow-dancing without any music.
You’ve always had a soft spot for him, and when he mustered the courage to tell you how gorgeous you looked tonight, followed by the loaded question—if he could kiss you—you obviously said yes.
Which led to this current beautiful scene being played out on this grungy, old couch.
In his loosened button-up shirt, Qimir kisses so delicately, each movement and touch just as gentle, perfectly reflecting his personality. Frankly, you’re not expecting anything more than a pleasant evening with a coworker you've grown to adore. If he's spectacular in bed, that’s merely a bonus.
As his lips leave yours and travel to the side of your neck, you arch into him while your hands bunch up the fabric of his shirt. He holds you close, lips never straying from your skin, and lowers you down onto the couch.
But then, your eyes drift up to the ceiling, and the weight of where you are and who owns this place hits you again, causing you to tense up.
“Stop thinking about him,” Qimir murmurs against your neck, his hands kneading your waist. This elicits a low groan from you, pulling you back into the moment.
“But what if he—”
“He’ll never know,” he cuts in reassuringly.
“And if he does?”
“He’ll be fine with this,” he insists, tone bordering frustration.
“How do you know?”
Drawing away from your neck, he gazes down at you with a hand braced on the couch’s armrest. His messy, yet gorgeous, hair nearly brushes against your face. When he palms your cheek, his eyes soften.
“Just be with me for tonight. All of you. Don’t think about anything else besides you and me. Can you do that for me?”
You glance up at him for a few beats, taking in his beauty, along with his saccharine pleading words. Then, with a small smile, you nod.
Suddenly, like lightning cutting through a storm, a smirk replaces Qimir’s warmth.
“Good girl,” he says, his voice now a lower, more seductive tone than you’re used to. You reflexively tighten at the praise.
Swiftly, he unties your halter dress and pulls the fabric down, baring your breasts to the cool air.
You gasp sharply as his mouth descends, capturing your nipple between his teeth, gently nipping before he swirls and darts his tongue against it. Your fingers tug at his hair, while his free hand kneads your other breast, his thumb strumming and teasing the hardened tip.
Hovering over your body, he trails kisses along your skin, switching his attention from one breast to the other, ensuring every inch of your chest is teased and pleasured.
Eventually, his hand slides down from your breast, the tips of his fingers grazing you in a slow, deliberate path until they find their way between your legs.
Your breath becomes ragged and your eyes tremble as he drags two fingers over your thin underwear.
“Fuck,” he chuckles, and you detect a cocky note to it, “you’re so wet for me already.”
His cockiness, paired with the vulgar comment, makes you shiver. You involuntarily buck your hips in need; he continues to chuckle, clearly indulging his power over you and how weak you become by a mere touch.
Qimir deftly pushes your panties to one side and plunges his digits into you. Your hands slip underneath his button-up shirt, fingers pressing into the smooth skin of his upper back and shoulders while your rising moans and needy whimpers fill the room.
But he’s far from finished—he jacks his fingers straighter, angling them even deeper than before.
Your whimpers evolve into heavy groans and wails, your fingers practically leaving marks on him. If he was this good with just his fingers, you were dying to know what he could do with his cock. Despite the raw pleasure, he grounds you with the press of his forehead against yours.
For the cherry on top, his thumb rubs your clit in small circles, each stroke sending you closer to the edge.
“Be a good girl and come for me.”
And you obediently do so with the rolling of your eyes, the uncontrollable jolting of your hips, and the ceaseless panting of his own name into Qimir's lips.
You take a second to come down from your high, but decide not to waste any time and pull away from underneath Qimir to shimmy out of your dress and panties, standing up and kicking them off beside the foot of the couch.
He sits relaxed on the couch now with a hand behind his head, watching you intently as you, now completely bare, drop to your knees in front of him.
Your hands tremble in anticipation when you reach for his pants, evidently feeling his desire around the seams. Removing his pants and undergarment to his ankles, your breath catches in your throat at the sight of his cock springing up against his shirt.
Said shirt is in the way, so Qimir unbuttons it fully and you become slack-jawed over his gorgeous abs, so awestruck that you can’t resist stroking them.
You continue to touch his abs as you hold his length in your other hand, gifting him gradual, firm strokes. Qimir releases a soft moan, leaning his head back while one of his hands squeeze your shoulder tenderly.
Finally, you take him into your mouth. On your knees, you worship him. Your tongue traces every inch of him and your lips and palm work together in tandem until his length is slick with your devotion.
In this moment, you feel an unspoken, strong reverence for Qimir. You can’t explain why you feel this way, but you let your body speak for itself. Each motion you provide is a testament to how much you respect him—as if letting him fill your mouth completely, even occasionally hitting the back of your throat, will prove your admiration.
Although he watches your every move, in such moments such as when you take him fully, squeeze his length harder, or suck hard on his blunt head, his composure slips; he releases throaty groans and his eyes lose focus.
At one point, he warns you he’s close, and you retreat, not wanting the evening to end just yet. Decisively, he rids of his shirt, revealing the expanse of his upper body, and steps out of his other clothes. You ogle at his presence; the more you experience Qimir tonight, the more you realize just how little you know about him.
Gently taking you by your wrist, Qimir guides you to bend forward in front of him on the couch. You’re surprised at this unexpected position from what you anticipated—a more traditional one like missionary—since it places him in control and leaves you vulnerable, with your face turned away from his.
His hands grip your hips firmly, and he lines himself up behind you. He eases into you slowly, and you throw your head back when he’s fully inside. Once you’ve adjusted, his thrusts are slow and deep. You savor the feeling of him inside of you, gripping the couch for release with each penetration.
He leans closer, his breath hot against your ear. “Do you feel me? Every inch of me?”
You nod, breathless and overwhelmed.
“And do you like it?”
“I do”—you gasp, throwing your head back at a sudden thrust—“I love it so much.”
“Such a good girl…” Qimir presses a kiss at the nape of your neck. Just as you're about to lean into it, he’s already gone.
He removes himself from your warmth, disappointment rising within you in the form of a pout, but he quickly turns you around.
Qimir lays you on the couch again beneath him once more. As he re-enters you, you think about how the vulnerability of your previous position pales in comparison to this. Now, this position makes you feel even more exposed with how he pins you down with his tenacious gaze with each thrust into your pussy.
Then, intensity flickers in his eyes. His gaze sharpens, and you sense his desire for something more, particularly with how hard he grips your waist.
“I’m–I’m going to place my hand around your neck,” he pants. “If it’s too much at any point, you double-tap me and I’ll stop. Do you understand?”
You nod, drowning in the pleasure, and you barely whisper, “I understand.”
His fingers first trace the contours of your throat, barely touching it, almost as if he's giving you one last out to say no if you want. But you don't want to; your curiosity is piqued for this darker, dominant side of Qimir you've never seen before.
His hand wraps around your throat with a firm, yet controlled pressure. You can feel the tightness and the pulse of your own blood under his touch, but the sensation is exhilarating, never crossing into pain.
When you don't seem to mind the amount of pressure, Qimir pushes you further, strengthening his hold against the sides of your windpipes. You moan harder, your pussy clenching in tandem with the thrill.
“Remember to breathe,” he instructs. “Focus on how good I feel inside of you.”
Seeing this intense, commanding side of Qimir is addicting. You want more—no, you need more of him like this. Your eyes roll, feeling the rising tension in the pits of your abdomen.
Your gaze drifts to the point where you and he connect, captivated by the sight of his relentless thrusts. You watch the way his body moves against yours, each thrust pushing you closer and closer.
“Look at me as I fuck you,” he demands, his gaze unyielding the whole time.
You struggle to keep your eyes locked on his, but you try your best to in order to avoid disappointing him. At this point, he's almost just as much of a mess as you: hair sticking to his perspired forehead, eyelids fluttering, teeth gritting hard as if he's holding himself back.
“Good girl. That’s my good”—he hesitates with an elongated moan—“my good girl.”
Pleasure seizes you both, and your faces contort in ecstasy. Jagged moans permeate the air as you come undone first, with Qimir following behind as he paints your stomach with thick, white streaks.
Tumblr media
After the clean-up, you lie on the couch on your side, facing him. On the other hand, he’s facing the ceiling with a hand above his head, and you’re in disbelief over the fact that he hides such a toned and chiseled form underneath layers of clothes all the time. You take advantage of the moment and let your hands graze the planes of his chest.
“You’re a completely different person when sex is on the table,” you observe with a hint of awe.
“Yeah?” He glances at you with a glimmer of a smirk. His voice seems huskier than usual, more seductive really. “Do you like that side of me?”
“I do,” you admit shyly.
His hand reaches out from beneath the sheet over your bodies, brushing against your thigh. “Wasn’t too much for you?”
You shake your head. “Not at all.”
“Do you…” He absentmindedly draws shapes on your skin. “Do you prefer that side of me over how I normally am?”
You think about it for a second.
“No,” you say with confidence, reaching for him and tucking some of his loose hair behind his ear. “That was undoubtedly one of the hottest things I’ve ever experienced, but I also like how you are with me every day. You respect me, you treat me well, and you make me laugh all the time; you’re one of the funniest guys I know.”
“On that note”—he leans in to rub his nose against the top of your arm before placing a light kiss on the same area—“can you call me master when we have sex?”
You immediately swat him on his chest and laugh. “Oh, my God!”
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding!” he says, his pitch now returning to its normal state. “Unless…?”
“If you’re really into it, I’ll consider it.” you tease, then look away. The mention of the word drags you back to reality. “What are we going to do about him?”
“I told you already; he’s fine with it,” he says dismissively, waving a hand. It bothers you that he doesn’t seem to care, but then you squint and wonder…
“You say that as if he already knows.”
He shrugs. “Maybe he does.”
Your eyes widen as your suspicions seem to be true. “Did you tell him?!”
“No,” he grunts, “but, I mean, he probably has the place bugged.”
“Oh, God…” You bury your face in one of your hands. “He’s not gonna be happy, especially if he heard everything. I do not look forward to training tomorrow.”
“Like I said,” he takes one of your hands and presses a kiss onto the inside of your wrist, “he’ll be fine with it. I’m willing to bet on it.”
“You don’t know him like I do, Qimir! How do you know it’ll be okay?”
“Trust me, all right?” He smiles and plants a gentle kiss on your forehead before pulling you into his arms—
“I just know.”

Socialist leftist AOC won House seats in 2022 US Midterm, new hope new change for New York under socialism
Both firebrand candidates for the House, Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene are from opposing political parties. While far-right Greene was re-elected to represent the northwest corner of Georgia, progressive AOC of New York was chosen to represent portions of Queens and the Bronx.   AOC is known for following her predecessor Berny Sanders’s socialist…

The domestic life had never been something Coriolanus had daydreamed about per se, but he'd known with the path he wanted it was nearly a given.
He'd known his choice in spouse would heavily influence the way this went. He'd aimed for someone pleasant, docile even.
You had been the best possible outcome. Though the marriage began as advantageous, he grew fond, and before he knew it, adoring.
Convinced you were sent by a higher power, he'd made sure to dress you in the best clothes, wrap you in the softest sheets, give you the best security money could buy. In addition, he gave what he had to you. His body was yours as well, and he made sure to remind you of the fact of it nearly every day.
His political pursuits only made him love you more, giving you an opportunity to shine in the spotlight. Sometimes he thought the public loved you more than he did, and he knew they loved you more than him. And he wouldn't have it any other way. You were a fine sight standing at his side at galas and dinners, photographing so well he wasn't convinced you weren't ethereal.
When you became pregnant, he rejoiced not just for the look of it, but for how miraculous you were. The sight of you carrying his child was a vision. And not that he cared as much, but it did wonders for his image to have a beautiful, glowing wife at his side, belly rounding with a baby.
Coriolanus marveled at the child after it was born, a son who was nothing short of a carbon copy of him. Motherhood suited you better than he could have dreamed, and the brightness you'd gained during your pregnancy made a home in you. He could hardly keep his hands off you, and he found you didn't want him to either.
The result of which was another bouncing baby boy, conceived less than a year after your first child was born. At this point, Coriolanus was in higher offices, and he had taken more time to be by your side, not wanting to miss a single second of anything.
Headlines far and wide praised the young, up-and-coming politician and his beautiful family, plastering the yearly portraits you commissioned across the front of magazines and newspapers. It was Panem's ideal, the four of you, and he used that image to propel him further and further up in politics, until he was up for the highest position in the country.
Presidency had been the end goal, of course, but he hadn't expected to reach it so soon. Once a boy with hardly a coin in his pocket, now a savvy, charming political powerhouse with a wife who was just the same.
The night he won his presidency, there were hours and hours of celebration, champagne and fireworks flowing freely. You hardly left his side, greeting dignitaries and senators, in a red gown he couldn't wait to unzip, dripping in diamonds he'd gifted you for the occasion. You looked every bit the perfect First Lady.
When the party had died down and he'd decided he wanted you all to himself, Coriolanus scooped you into his arms and whispered something to you that made you blush prettily. He started to kiss you once you were in the car and didn't stop all the way back to the mansion, up the stairs and into the bedroom. The children were long since put to bed, and he was excited to be alone with you.
"We did it," he whispered before he captured your lips yet again in a searing kiss. "You and me, darling. We'll run this country. We've got the world at our fingertips."
You traced his jaw delicately and slid your hand up to his hair, mussing his hair that'd stayed so perfect all night. "It's all you. You can do anything."
"Not without my wife," he murmured against your mouth. Coriolanus' hands grasped your hips, making you sigh and tug at his tie to loosen it. He ducked his head to your neck, lips trailing a tantalizing trail down to your collarbone. "My First Lady."
The way he said it made you shiver, and you pulled him by the shirt collar to the bed, pushing him down so you could sit on his lap, knees on either side of his thighs. He grasped your waist, leaning back slightly as you kissed him slowly, almost teasingly.
Your lips parted for a moment, and he opened his eyes to watch you breathe, your smooth fingers unhooking his top shirt buttons. He nearly turned liquid when your hand lingered there, tracing his collarbone. The way your face was so serene, he knew you were thinking about something intently.
Then you smiled, taking his face in your hands, your eyes flickering between his. Leaning forward, you gave him the softest, wispiest kiss, and whispered, "I'm pregnant."
Coriolanus pulled back ever so slightly, searching your face. When he found you were serious, a grin split across your features, and he fell so his back hit the bed, rolling over so he was hovering over you. His lips touched every bit of your face he could reach, conscious of your delighted giggles. The night truly couldn't have gotten any better.
Fresh off celebration, he leapt straight into his presidential duties, finding himself more productive than he'd ever been before. Of course, he kept a close eye on you as well, sticking to his usual routine for your pregnancies. If he had a particularly long day, you'd come up to his study and crawl into his lap despite his protests that you needed to rest.
"Can't sleep without you," you'd murmur, knowing that would make him come to bed. He was nearly conscious of what you were doing, but he allowed it to happen, defenseless against your wide eyes and soft touches.
Pregnancy didn't stop you from your responsibilities as the First Lady, and he was in awe of it. You hosted regular dinners and parties as easy as breathing, attended charity events and actual charities, from soup kitchens to schools, animal shelters to women's homes. Coriolanus was amazed by you, how you truly cared to use your position to make things better
You discussed your experiences with him as well, casually mentioning things he may want to take a look at in terms of conditions and laws. He was touched by your goodness of heart, and even though as president he didn't have the final say in everything, you inspired change, encouraged him to truly make things better, not just maintain order.
As the months in the first year of his term progressed, Coriolanus had made the acquaintance of quite a few figures in the Capitol's tree of politics, making nice with them for the sake of diplomacy. They were all eager to cozy up to him, of course, and he kept it in mind as he chose who to be seen with.
There were three senators in particular, who had wives, and children the same ages as yours and Coriolanus' two boys. He cautiously allowed them to become closer. The men were amiable enough and their wives were...well, he wasn't fond of them but you, pure sunshine in physical form, had nothing but good things to say about them, and he thanked the stars for your sweet disposition.
You suggested he have them over for tea one day, saying it would be good for all of them. The boys could have a few more friends their age, you could entertain the other wives, and Coriolanus could talk business with the men. An all-around win, you'd called it.
Of course he'd agreed, your hold on him influencing his decision as usual. He wouldn't dream of fighting your sway, as it'd always produced wonderful results in the past. Coriolanus had long learned to trust you.
The day of you were stunning in a soft red dress that accentuated your rounding belly, and he made sure to tell you how beautiful you looked several times before everyone arrived.
Ever the gracious hostess, you greeted the other wives gracefully, settling on one side of the room with them and the children, allowing Coriolanus and the senators to have a modicum of privacy. As well as this, it made it so he didn't have to interact with the women with whom, he'd confessed to you secretly, he wanted as little to do with as possible. It was like you'd read his mind, and he made a mental note to thank you later.
It began smoothly. The senators were friendly, and their political proposals were fine ideas. He took note of the better ones, already plotting a joint strategy in his head. Whenever he glanced to the other side of the room, you were smiling, and the children were content.
About an hour in, however, he noticed you stand and exit swiftly out of the corner of his eye. That was unusual. He didn't pay it any real mind though, until it had been ten minutes and you still hadn't returned.
Coriolanus got to his feet and excused himself, making his way into the hallway and scanning the space for you. He heard sniffling around the corner, and when he went to investigate, he found you with a hand over your mouth, eyes closed as tears streamed down your cheeks.
His face fell, and he immediately took you into his arms, folding you into his chest and holding your head there the way he knew you liked. "Darling, what's the matter? What happened? Are you feeling alright?"
You let out a breathy sob, shaking your head. "Nothing, it's nothing. I'm just emotional. I'm always emotional."
A bold-faced lie. Coriolanus had heard stories of pregnant women crying at the drop of the hat, but you'd never been that way. Not with either of your sons and so far, not at all with this baby either, six months in.
"You can tell me," he decided on saying, smoothing your hair under his hand. "I don't care how little you think it is. I'll fix it no matter what."
"It's stupid," you breathed, your arms grasping around his middle.
"Easier to make better, then," he kissed the top of your head, trying ot coax you into confessing.
That softened your resolve, and you took in a breath. Maybe you could sense he wouldn't relent. Maybe you felt safe enough to tell him. Either way, or both, you started talking.
"The other wives..." you started, and he bit his tongue. His opinion was already low of them, and he had a feeling whatever they'd done would sink it to the depths. "They were making...comments. About how many babies we've had."
His brow furrowed. He hadn't even realized that was something to make 'comments' on. "What did they say?"
"Have you noticed none of them have more than one?" you looked up at him, your teary eyes piercing his. And he realized he'd never taken that into account, but it was true. "They impli- said that it was low class, district was the word one of them used, to do what we've done and have multiple children."
In shock, Coriolanus smoothed a hand over your rosy cheek, brushing another tear away. "That's ridiculous. How could the number of children we have determine our status?"
"Apparently because I'm married to the president, I'd be neglecting my responsibilities by portraying myself as a 'housewife'," you whispered, not meeting his eyes at that part. "It comes across as undignified." He was about to contradict you, when you said more. "And they were talking about my charity work, saying I do too much and I shouldn't be neglecting our boys-" your breath hitched on the word, and a fresh wave of tears ensued.
Coriolanus let you bury your face into his chest once more, not caring if you got makeup on his collar. This was more serious than something that could be rendered with dry-cleaning.
He was in disbelief that anyone would dare say such things to you, such things that were so blatantly untrue. And to your face, no less. He almost admired the boldness of it. The audacity of Capitol women truly knew no bounds. He knew jealousy when he saw it, having been an active devotee of it for much of his life. These women had put you in an impossible spot. You couldn't be a good enough mother, or a good enough First Lady in their eyes. His mind worked quickly, and he knew what he needed to do.
Lifting your chin, Coriolanus said, "Will you look at me, sweetheart?" You obliged, and his heart broke at the look in your eyes. He lifted his hands to cradle your face, the corners of his lips twitching when you leaned slightly into his palm.
"You are a wonderful mother," he emphasized. "Our boys adore you. And you do beautiful work for all your charities. Do you know how many remarks I get about how caring and selfless my wife is?" Your tears slowed down, and that encouraged him to continue. "You're perfect. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about."
That made you smile, and he relished in how pretty you looked even after you'd been crying. Coriolanus kissed your hairline gently, and pulled you in for another hug, rubbing your back. "Why don't you go upstairs and rest for a bit? I'll join you in a moment."
"What about-?"
"I'll take care of it," he interjected firmly when you remembered everyone still sitting in the drawing room. Coriolanus leaned down and pressed a gentle peck to your mouth, enough to make you smile a little more. "Go on up."
You left him, and he watched you walk down the hallway to the stairs, looking so small in the vast, grand expanse.
Somewhat regrettably, the senator's proposals would have to be rejected. Although maybe there was a way to twist them, so they were just different enough from their specific wording to make them seem like his. Maybe they would protest, but it didn't matter. Their wives had disrespected you, the center of Coriolanus' world, and so they wouldn't reap any benefits. And besides, nobody would believe them.
Perhaps it was a little early in his presidency to have someone ejected from society, but he would certainly try. Anyone who dared question you, his sweet, kind, darling wife, would have hell to pay.
Coriolanus was the president of Panem. He could do as he pleased.
And he'd exhaust every last resource to keep you happy by his side.

Tumblr media
it was the most stereotypical and overplayed song ever, but damn did you love la vie en rose.
just the concept of the song was romantic to you. to live every day like it would be magnificent, like you could know a day would be your last and look back at it and not regret a single thing. it meant looking at the world with a positivity that these days was mostly faked or artificial.
after the life you've lived, the things you've seen firsthand, you need that positive light in your life more than anything else. especially right now, as your manager is hounding you over the phone about your next gig.
now you loved your manager, nancy, you really did. she took you in and was honest when no one else would be, stood by you when no one else wanted to give you a real chance. but sometimes it felt like she didn't really believe in you. obviously, she believed you had talent, or else she would have 'left you in the dust for the rats to pick apart,' in her own words. it was almost like she couldn't fathom that what you had was real, like you didn't truly deserve all the things that were coming to you.
but as long as you were paying her, she didn't bother to speak up on it.
you were listening to her drone on and on into the speaker from your phone, holding the object up to your ear with one hand as you hold a menu to order something from the cafe waitress who's waiting beside you.
"ill have an uhhhh... le marie antoinette, and a coffee with sugar and cream please," you hand the menu to the waitress after she writes down your order, heading back into the cafe with a smile. this cafe was one of your favorites, nestled below an apartment building in one of the inner city arrondissements so you could sit outside beneath an umbrella and admire the city before you. "nancy, i don't see why i can't just...politely turn it down? it sounds like it's a glorified pin-up girl gig, le bellevilloise is offering for me to sing there exclusively for three months-"
"no, that's what im trying to tell you if you'd let me finish." you can hear nancy's telltale sigh through the phone. she had a short temper when she was stressed, something you sadly had in common, and you could hear her clicking a pen through the receiver. "this is an international gala slash fundraiser, attended by the one percent of the one percent. billionaires, senators, diplomats, everything. the event organizer asked for you specifically, so turning it down is a bad look. aka, you're doing it. go out and get a pretty dress. ill send you more details later."
the phone shut off and you let out a huff of air, crossing your right leg over your left beneath the table. once you have your meal and bite into your pastry you can't help but close your eyes at how good it tastes; the combination of the crunch of the macarons, the near-overwhelming sweetness of the cream, and the savory juice that leaks from the raspberries never gets old.
you don't know how you feel about this whole gala thing. sure its a great way to make connections and earn a fat stack of cash that will probably last you few weeks, but you've learned before that the people that you most admire, celebrities, politicians, even superheroes, can't be trusted. and being in a room full of them to perform wasn't at the top of your christmas wish list.
but like everyone else in the world, you were finding money hard to pass up on. just by the lowball nancy told you, you'd be able to comfortably pay the next month's rent and fix up your electric scooter, maybe even enough to save up for that beautiful flat you saw online with the grand windows and nice floor plan.
it'd only be a few hours of singing and kissing up to a bunch of snobs and you'd be done. easy peasy.
finding a dress wasn't to hard. your modeling connections from before you started to focus on singing gave you access to a few, good quality clearance pieces for your picking. you figure that the people you were performing for would prefer something classy and elegant, so you picked out a sleeveless black dress with black opera gloves, accessorized by a diamond necklace and earrings. one of your stylist friends, alex, who you asked to help do up your hair told you 'you're definitely gonna shag a rich man looking like this, just ask them if they have any friends for me!' and after a quick 'please don't wish that upon me' and a spritz of perfume you were ready.
the hours before you got on stage were nothing short of both nerve-racking but exhilarating. you rode in a standard taxi, your slight jitters noticed by the slightly balding man in the front. he eyes you pretty oddly when you got in the car before using you if you were a model, telling you that his daughter would like an autograph if you were. you felt slightly flustered when you had to tell him you weren't, but gave him some tips to tell his daughter if she wanted to pursue it. after around twenty minutes of driving through the city the car stops and you're escorted by a crew member into a grand building, those types you pass by and dream of getting the chance just to step into.
after that its a rush of meeting the event planner who gives you another run down of the evening and then meeting with the band members, a nice group of jazz players who you had heard about on the news for their blends of old and new methods of performing music. they played you a piece on their instruments in their dressing room, and it felt like hanging out with old friends listening to tunes as one twirled you around and the others laughed and the air felt warm and fuzzy.
later its time for your set, where you'll sing as the guests come in and take occasional breaks to save your breath and let whoever is hosting this talk. so you get up on your mini stage, make sure you look alright and you're in tune with the band, and then you do what you do best.
you've never felt better than how you do while you sing. every time you do so you tell a story, tales of success and tragedy and love and heartache. while you sing your favorite thing to do is to admire the crowd. when you were younger it gave you horrible stage fright, but as you grew up and saw just how much people loved your voice it made you confident, if not the tiniest bit narcissistic.
as you look out at the guests of tonight you see what's expected. important and powerful men donned in suits, their wives standing on their arms in glamourous gowns, you swear that you even see some fairly famous celebs in the mix, and they were all listening intently to you and your voice.
and that's when you saw her. near the back of the room with a glass of red wine in her hand, dark hair flowing over her shoulders, and darker eyes trained on you. in this profession you get used to people staring at you for hours on end, but something about this woman unnerves you slightly.
a short while later your set is over and after a round of applause the organizer tells you to enjoy yourselves, and that you're free to indulge in whatever food is left. after a brief touch-up in the dressing room and making sure you look presentable, you head out to get yourself something to eat. you keep getting stopped by people telling you how beautiful your performance was, how they'd love to get in contact with your agent to book you for future events, and your regular dose of creepy old guys hitting on you. but besides that things were going pretty well.
some servers were waking around with trays of champagne, but you figured since everything was complimentary you would treat yourself to something stronger. you head to the bar and order yourself a strong cocktail, and as soon as you finish your order a figure sits on the stool next to yours.
"get me a scotch on the rocks, thanks."
you glance at them from the corner of your eye and feel your heart beat faster when you see
it's the woman from before. from this close distance, you can admire her entirely, and god is she gorgeous. she looks so put together, not a hair out of place, and wearing a perfectly tailored suit that makes you guess she's some kind of wealthy businesswoman.
after not so secretly checking her out, she turns her body towards you and looks at you with a smile.
"im sure you already know, but you have an enchanting voice."
you look down bashfully, thinking the same about her. she speaks like she's so sure of what she's saying like there's no room for debate or argument.
"thank you. no matter if i know or not, it doesn't take much to make me a little nervous every time i perform."
the bartender brings over both of your drinks and she tilts hers to you.
"trust me, theres no need. you're nothing but a natural, one of the best singers i've ever heard."
"ah, now you're exaggerating. is there a reason you're complimenting me like you're being paid to do so?"
she shakes her head, setting down her glass of liquor with a clink. "not anything nefarious, if that's what you're thinking. just glad i get to talk to a beautifully talented woman."
jeez, she was laying it on thick. normally this was coming from some fifty-year-old man with greasy skin and weird teeth, but it felt nice coming from her. she was obviously gorgeous, leaving her body language open in case you wanted to decline and she would walk away in a moment's notice.
"im glad i get to talk to you too, miss?"
"victoria. its a pleasure to talk to you, miss y/n."
for around an hour or two the both of you sat at that bar, blocking out the fake laughs of investors and boisterous noises of people who got a little too friendly with the free champagne. she was so attentive to you. asking about what got you into singing and what brought you to paris by your non-native accent. you normally kept the finer details of your past a close-guarded secret, but you figured there couldn't come any harm from telling this attractive stranger a few things about yourself before never seeing her again.
"you're telling me at only sixteen years old, you flew to paris by yourself and made a living for yourself? you've got balls on you, sister."
"yeah yeah, but im nothing special. i just got tired of all the bullshit in the u.s., y'know? the greed, the cynicism, the-"
"superhero bullshit?"
you giggled while she smirked, observing your smile and how it made your eyes squinch.
"well i wouldn't put it like that but...superheros? really? its just, they make it so american, in a really really annoying way. i just couldn't deal with that being a reality. and where better than paris? it seems like voughts all but forgotten about it recently, thank god.”
"i understand. and i know we just met, but it does suit you. 'beautiful runaway finds passion, life, and love in the city of lights'. best cliche there is."
"and what a damn good cliche it is to be. although i haven't been that lucky on the love front."
her eyebrow raises and her nail traces around the rim of her glass.
"im sorry but i simply cant believe that. someone like you would have people lining up for a chance to talk to you, let alone date you."
you dryly chuckle before taking another long swig of your glass of champagne, dancing just on the edge of being intoxicated. you understood why everyone else was drinking this, it was sweet but strong.
"people have tried, of course. but sadly most of my escapades end in tragedy. very melodramatically. but enough about me, I'm guessing this isn't gonna go my way and you have someone waiting for you at home?"
"im offended you still think so low of me. but no, there was someone but it didn't work out. now its just me and my daughter."
god, she was a milf. if there was a god you prayed he would let you get lucky tonight.
"well, im sorry to hear it didnt work out."
"are you really?"
she looks at you with a smirk on her face.
"no, im not."
that was all she needed to ask you to come back with her to her hotel.
and not just any hotel, she was rich enough to be spending two weeks in the damn ritz. asking again what she did for a living didn't get you very far, the only hint you got being that it helped her change the world. ominous but whatever. it had to be legitimate if she was invited to that gala.
the cautious and common sense side of you is snuffed out for the night the moment she set her hand over the covered skin of your thigh in the car, the feeling of her hand on your lower back leading you through the pristine lobby of the hotel, that same hand helping you take off your dress and take you apart slowly over the rest of the night.
when you wake up the sun is peeking through the curtains, the softness of the sheets your laying on calling you back to sleep before you get up and look around.
you only got a few seconds to admire the room last night before victoria was on you, and now in the light of day you could truly take everything in. you find a note left by the woman, letting you know she had to leave temporarily for an important job thing and that she'd be back my lunch, inviting you to call up room service and enjoy the room intil then.
you were expecting for her to tell you to pack your shit up and go, so despite the oddness this was a nice surprise. besides, there was no way you were gonna pass up on ordering a five-star breakfast you didnt have to pay for.
after indulging in a meal brought by room service and finding ways to pass the time, you text your manager after she happily lets you know that your night was a success and that your payment should be cleared shortly. while you're in the middle of wondering if you should answer her query about the host wondering where you wandered off to last night, the sound of a door opening makes your head jerk towards the small entry area, victoria coming in through the doorway dressed in a tan suit and carrying a large black briefcase on her arm.
"ah, youre still here!,” she sets her bag on a glass table near the door and strides into the room, eyes connected with yours the whole time. you weren’t feeling nervous before, but under her gaze you wonder if maybe you should have taken that free meal along with some tiny soaps from the bathroom and headed back home.
“yeah, figured i’d stick around for whatever. besides, i had to stay and blame you for my manager thinking i got kidnapped.”
“i’ll make sure to apologize and send her an edible arrangement. besides, i hope to take up more of your time in the future.”
your eyes bulge so hard you’re sure you look like a moron. you cover it up by getting up to get yourself another cup of coffe from the tray the food came in on.
“well i should’ve guessed this was more than a one night stand when you allowed me to order up breakfast. but now i have to admit i’m slightly scared you’re actually plotting to traffick me.”
"trust me, that wouldn't be good for business. id just like to see you some more, if that would be alright with you.
was that an actual question? after the night you had and the way she’s been treating you, you didn’t see much of a choice except to say yes.
she tells you that a few hours later she has a flight back to america, but that she wouldn't mind spending the day with you if you're free. you agree to get a little bite to eat and it turns into a whirlwind day of showing her around the city you call your home. she has to wear giant sunglasses the whole time and have a mysterious security detail not too far behind, but you wouldn't change anything about it.
at the end of it all, she bids you goodbye in front of your taxi, admiring the cute outfit she bought for you so you wouldn't have to go home in your dress from the night prior, promising that she'll keep in touch with you once she gets settled in back a new york, jokingly telling you she'll send you a postcard. as you sit in the back of the taxi, your heart inflates a little as you take in the events of the last day. you never liked to mix business with pleasure in this way, partly because most of those business people were gross perverts and also that it could damage your career beyond repair, but with victoria you can't help but think that it was worth it.
eventually, a few days pass by, and the only calls you've gotten are from friends congratulating on what they heard was another great performance. and as nice as all the praise and the new gigs you started to get felt, the longer you heard no word back from victoria, it started to eat away at you inside.
back at your favorite cafe you sit with two of your oldest friends, jamie and chloe, as they ramble about the details of their changing lives and jobs. you don't know when you zoned out but eventually, chloe's manicured finger lightly pokes at your cheek, giggling when you make a playful motion to bite it.
"where'd you go just now? take me with you before jamie keeps talking about his new lover."
"hey!" jamie pouts, "you're just jealous because i've been regularly having passionate sex allll night long while you're still vying over your boss." you hear a shocked gasp behind him and you all turn to see an elderly couple looking at jamie like he's said the most blasphemous thing they've ever heard.
"really classy, james." you snort.
"what the hell! you're supposed to be on my side! everyone has noticed how you've been in a better mood since that gala. alex told us how they checked up on you afterwise and you showed up a day later with a new outfit and a hickey on your neck."
"that is- god, that’s so intrusive and so like them,” you rolled your eyes. you knew as soon as alex saw you that morning that they’d be gossiping to everyone about the state they saw you in. “and i don’t kiss and tell like that. at least not in public like this.”
“ok, so we’ll stop by your place tonight with some wine and talk all about it tonight. agree?”
“what? no-”
“agree!” chloe beams and shakes hands with jamie across the table, blowing you kisses before leaving her share of the bill on the table and leaving with some excuse of having to be somewhere. you glare at jamie as a warning before he gives you a kiss on the cheek and does the same. you grumble before biting into your muffin.
a few hours later you’re sitting on your soft sofa with jamie’s head in your lap and chloe on the other side, talking and laughing about old stories from your jobs. you take a sip of merlot right before jamie brings up what you were hoping they’d forgotten about by now.
“ok ok, enough chatter. seriously, chlo, you cackle like a seagull. y/n, when are you going to tell us about this mystery lover of yours? do you need another glass of wine to start talking?”
“don’t even think about pouring me another glass. look, there’s not much to say, ok? i was singing, she was staring at me from across the bar, we flirted a little, that was it!”
they stared.
“you want more?”
“how could we not? we haven’t seen you like this with anyone! not since we took you on that tourist tour on the seine!”
that…that took you for a spin. you remembered it clear as day, them tugging you along when they’d heard since you came to paris you’d been focusing on building up your image and working. it was more a joke, but the lights of the boat, the sky and the lights made you feel like you were in the most perfect moment of your life. hearing them compare that to how you looked now had a nervous feeling building in your gut.
“we spent the night together. and it was…good. really good. she let me stay while she went out, bought me a new outfit then said she’d be in touch.”
your friends are silent. way too silent. you’re afraid they’re about to laugh and judge you before they’re squealing and tackling you, pulling back when you groan after you almost spill your wine on your clothes.
"god, why are you always the lucky one? this isn't fair! at all!" chloe groans while dramatically resting her head on your shoulder, jamie still giggling as the wine clearly starts to take an effect on him. "please, please tell us what happens next before i scream."
"no thats- i mean, thats it. so far. for now." you stutter along your words as your friends' faces go blank yet again, except this time without a hint of a chuckle or smile.
"what the hell do you mean 'that's it.'? she ghosted you?" jamie gasps.
"no, she didnt ghost me-"
"sweetheart, im sorry to say this but you have been ghosted. in a really dickhead way."
"its not like that! she's a busy person with a serious job and a kid and responsibilities!"
you briefly hear chloe snicker "milf?" before you roll your eyes.
"she's gonna contact me. and even if she doesn't, maybe it was just a nice one-time thing! everyone knows I'm great at those."
jamie snickers before chloe smacks his shoulder in a second.
"why? why did you laugh?"
they share a look before she smacks his shoulder again.
"would you stop? i have pains, you know this. but y/n, we know you. we love you. but your latest stints haven't been...the most successful. or left you in the best headspaces."
"he's right, honey. remember the last girl, hannah? one of the worst situationships i've ever seen. you told us you would be alright when she broke it off and then we found you at that lousy bar at eleven in the morning..."
you start biting at your lip. there was nothing you hated more than when they told you the truth about how you could act. it wasn't your fault that all the time your relationships got messy, or that you got attached a little quickly. people didn't understand but a life like yours could be lonely. standing up on a stage and performing for people who want you to do just that and only that: sing and look like a glamourous pin-up doll. most of the time its the other performers who even bother to ask if your throat is alright after singing for hours.
so yes, sometimes you rushed into relationships. and you might have done it again in the dumbest way possible.
"i just...she let me stay after, y'know? and she came back and brought me with her again. why go through that effort just to leave me behind like trash?" your friends pouted before closing in to comfort you, rubbing your back and giving you small affirmations.
for a month you go into a rut. unless it's performing or going to the dentist for a checkup you don't leave your house. you become pretty good acquaintances with the grocery delivery boy, benny, who started panicking when he realized he forgot one of your items until you assured him it was fine. it wasn't the first time you'd grown so oddly attached to a romantic prospect, and it wasn't the first time you'd gotten hurt by it. you spend your time moping on your couch and binge-watching your favorite show for the third time when your phone buzzes from beside you.
nancy schmancy : call me.
you rolled your eyes. she could have just called you in the first place, but no. she had to be extra about it. you press the call button and don't have to wait even five seconds for her voice to ring in your ear.
"do you want to know what mister barbier just emailed me?"
"i think you already have that answer for me."
"he said, and i quote, 'tell y/n i send my best wishes. her performance last night was hauntingly beautiful, and i'm hoping it was one of her greatest acts yet.'"
"if you ask me, it sounds like i did a pretty good job."
"it sounds like he thought you were singing your damn suicide note!" she groaned, and you could hear her face scrunching from over the phone. "i don't know what is going on with you recently, and i don't want to sound insensitive, but if you can't manage to keep your work and personal life separate, even i can't help you make it far in this business. clients may say they want you to be expressive but they only mean so far. unhappy music means unhappy customers, capeche?"
"i understand, nancy. ill send a personal apology to mister barbier."
"good. ill call you soon to let you know about any new gigs. take care of yourself. seriously."
the line clicks and you toss your phone onto the couch and take another sip of sauvignon blanc from your rose-shaped wine glass. it pained you to admit it, but nancy had a point. if you kept letting yourself mope in your feelings you'd run out of people who wanted you to sing, and if the point came where you were out of gigs...you didn't even want to think about it. if you weren't singing you weren't living.
only a few hours after that call you manage to get back to normal. you go out and get your own groceries, deciding to indulge yourself and buy the ingredients for some recipe you saw online months ago. one of your clients cries at your performance, ecstatically telling you they'll be in talks with your manager to set up a stable contract. things really start to look up. two weeks later you even manage to get the number of a cute girl, elise, a tall woman with dyed hair who reached for the same vintage music box as you at an open market.
you're smiling as you look down at the messy ink on a slip of paper, the numbers and tiny smily face distracting you as you enter the hallway to your apartment. so distracted that you nearly trip over a object on the floor, looking down to see...a bouquet?
a really gorgeous bouquet you notice as you bend over to pick it up. its a collage of dusty blues and off-colored ivories, and when you brought it closer to your nose for a whiff you felt a sense of bliss. you bring it into your apartment with a skip in your step before you spot a piece of paper among the flowers, plucking it from the collection and reading it over.
upon closer inspection, you can see its a postcard, the cover a flattering shot of the statue of liberty with text that reads "love from new york city!". you try to calm your heart down at the location and the 'love' part, but you've already gotten your hopes up when you turn the card around to read the message:
xxx-xxx-xxxx
sorry for the wait. i'll make it up to you, angel.
you'd never felt so conflicted as you did in the past five seconds. half of you was vindicated that yes, this attractive woman didnt leave you high and dry and did actually have a deeper interest in you, but the other part was angry. and embarrassed that you were angry, because again, you spent less than a day with this woman, she didn't owe you anything. but also yes the hell she did.
before you could get yourself together you were harshly tapping the number into your cell, biting at your lip as the phone slowly rings.
"y/n, is that you?" echoes from the line, victorias voice sounding and running over your head like soft silk. no, no, stop it. focus.
"howd you know it was me? im sure you have other people who'd be calling you this late."
"certainly not anyone with a phone number from paris. besides, i was hoping it'd be you."
"well, i would have been flattered two weeks ago but unfortunately i dont think your words could phase me right now."
she sighs and the line goes silent. you feel bad for being catty for a few seconds before you brush it off. she's the one who played with your emotions and promised to call you but never did. she had this coming.
"im sorry, really i am. i've been busy with things at work and my daughter-"
damn it, she pulled the kid card again.
"i just...dont like being lied to. or led on. maybe its my fault for beeing too clingy-"
"no, no. dont apologize. if it means anything youve been on my mind for weeks now."
"yeah, same here. except my thoughts havent been all that nice." you laugh.
"deserved. and id like to make it up to you."
"oh yeah? let me guess, this time we'll spend two nights together?"
"close. how about two weeks. in new york."
you don't know if you should laugh. you feel like you should, so you do. but she isn't.
"you...you're being serious."
"im being serious."
what do you even say? what do you even do? of course, whatever higher power there is would make your life stable and steady for the past few months then throw this in to shake you up. you really should have been expecting it, considering...
you shake yourself back to the present. victoria is still waiting on the other line, unwilling to rush you into a decision, apparently. you'd applaud her for her chivalry if you weren't so stunned.
"victoria, come on. we've only met once, and while it was nice it was brief. now you want me to upend my life and career to jet off to america? it sounds crazy."
"you make me a bit crazy, honestly. besides, you were telling me in bed you haven't been in the states since you left, i have a feeling you miss it more than you let on."
you shuffle in your spot, reminded that you're standing in your cold-ass kitchen and you haven't changed out of the outfit you wore out today. but half of your uncomfortableness is from a feeling gnawing at your chest because she's right. at this point you can barely remember the night you left your childhood home, but you know it was rushed. you wanted to forget everything.
"i think you're also forgetting that i have a blossoming career here. are you gonna pay my definitely going to be pissed off manager her wages? plus i was supposed to be first pick for this really good gig-"
"i'll pay for everything, i promise. dont forget that i have connections. in two weeks they''ll be singing you praises across the globe."
you close your eyes and take in a breath.
"can you make my ticket first class?"
-
one thing you didnt miss about america? just how...much everything was, all the time.
your flight was quiet. victoria didnt hesitate to book you an expensive ticket, almost taking offense to your request for a nice one and scheduling you for business class, sending you a text to get lots of rest in the ultra-luxe beds on the plane. it was probably one of the best nights sleeps you'd had in months.
when you got off the plane there were two tall escorts holding a sign with your last name on it, taking the suitcases from your hands before you could say anything and leading you into a sleek black car. a voice in the back of your head starts screaming but you ignore it. for now.
the men in the car give you some basic rundowns, how they'll constantly be hovering over you during your stay for your "protection", and that they'll be taking you to settle into a hotel until victoria makes contact, and the little voice starts freaking out again and telling you that you've slept with and are fraternizing with a mob boss. at least it's more exciting than your last few flings.
the car goes silent after that, and you put in your earbuds as you watch the city go by. you weren't from new york, but you loved watching movies set in the bustling cityscape. the buildings really are humongous, and you see so many different types of people it sets your brain on a whirlwind.
you look back down at your phone after the fifth 'the seven' advertisement in one block.
yet again you're led into a clearly extremely expensive hotel, breezing through reception before you are led to a luxuriant hotel room, the bodyguards ignoring you as you giggle and flop onto the bed, waving them off when they tell you they'll be posted outside.
the sheets feel heavenly on your skin, and with the soft sunshine from the window beaming down on you and the gentle hustle and bustle of new york outside, you think you could fall asleep in a minute. but, begrudgingly, you peel yourself form the bed and open your suitcase to start putting your clothes away before taking a quick shower in the giant bathtub.
just as you exit the shower and wrap your body in a towel, your phone starts ringing and as soon as you read the 'v' in the contact name you push answer and bring it to your ear.
"hello? vic?"
"hey, hon. eager to talk to me?"
"you called me. and 'hon'? really? we've moved to petnames already?"
"figured id start making up for those weeks with no contact. and id like to do so again tonight. i wanna bring you somewhere."
your mouth quirks up in a smile as you re-adjust the towel around your body, the phone nearly slipping from its quick placement between your phone and ear, "id really like that. i hope its out to dinner, i didnt care to eat any of the plane food."
“yes, it’s to dinner. but its up to you if you want it to be fancy or casual. i know its tacky but there’s this pretty cute french place near where i live...”
“that vaguely sounds like an invitation to your place, but ill let it slide. are you gonna pick me up or are your special agents going to escort me everywhere for the next few weeks?”
“special agents? what agents?”
a bead of water drips from your neck down your back and it feels like the tip of a knife. a pressure builds in the back of your throat and your fingers grip the fabric of your towel. “what…that’s a joke, right?”
her laughter rings in your ear and you are seconds away from hanging up the call.
“sorry, sorry. i sometimes have a weird sense of humor. you'll get used to it.”
“i doubt it.”
“and i'm hopeful. i'll let you go so you can get ready, i'll be by in under an hour.”
you hang up after a sweet goodbye and gently sit on the toilet. your brain is rushing to catch up after the conversation like your body goes on autopilot when you hear victoria's voice. its terrifying and its thrilling. and you don't know why a part of you likes the feeling.
after you brush your teeth, do some quick skincare, debate over shaving just in case, and spend twenty minutes picking out a cute outfit, you finally hear the gentle knocking on the door while you're double-checking over the content of your purse.
rushing to open the door, you're greeted with the sight of a smiling victoria, her hands tucked into the pants of her clearly expensive pinstriped pantsuit. you're admiring the look of her hair tucked back into a ponytail when she's reaching forward and pressing a soft kiss to your cheek.
"you look perfect. come on, i made us a reservation."
and it turned out to be a perfect night. she did end up taking you to the french place, allowing you to order whatever you wanted. that place was weirdly empty, only a handful of other patrons inside. you were pleased to see that the waitress was french herself, having a small chat about the customs and foods she missed while she praised the authenticity of the food at the restaurant.
only a day and you had already forgotten how forward the people back home could be, because the waitress throws a subtle look at victoria and compliments you on finding such an attractive woman. when she leaves vic just smiles.
“ok, id say at this point we’re doing pretty good with the communication thing, right?” you ask, taking a sip of the pricey wine your date ordered.
“yeah, id say that.”
you finger the rim of your glass, the nerves getting to you before you ask your question. "i want you to tell me what your job is. your actual job, not some vague ass title. you have security following gus around, so i feel like i should know."
"no, no, you're right. i just didnt wanna scare you off. or have you think differently of me once i told you." she sighs, thumbing the napkins on the table. "i work in the government. i'm a congresswoman, to be exact."
you don't doubt she's a politician for a second, because she shows no hint of nervousness at your lack of emotion.
"are you...a good congresswoman?"
"i don't really know how to answer that." she laughs.
"i'm sorry. i knew you were important enough to be at that gala, but a politician is...tricky."
she reaches across the table and lays her hand palm up, smiling when you rest yours on top of it. "look, i get it. i should have told you sooner but please understand why i didn't. i wanted to get to know you as normally as possible, without all of the press and politics in the way."
"normally as possible, huh? that includes sleeping together on the first night?"
you're trying to show your acceptance of the situation with your humor, but you can tell victoria can sense your uneasiness at the situation. here you were thinking you had found some under-the-radar millionaire to dote on you and instead, you'd roped in someone whose job was entirely in the public eye that could be put in danger at the flip of a switch.
"how about we finish up and take this back to my place? i'll tell you everything that you wanna know about me. no matter how personal."
you stare into her eyes for a few seconds and decide that she looks genuine, getting confirmation that her daughter is staying with a friend before ending your meal and following her to her place.
for the amount of money she's ready to spend on you, you're surprised to see that victoria lives in a chic but quaint townhome only a twenty-minute walk from the restaurant. she gently takes off your coat and instructs you to sit with her on the couch, pressing on a remote to turn on her fireplace.
after a few hours and two more glasses of wine, victoria had opened up to you about nearly everything in her life. the mysterious death of her birth family, being adopted by a man who helped pushed her to go into a political career, her polite but loveless marriage with her ex. she even shows you a picture of zoe that she has in her wallet, taking the chance to gush over her daughter. she seems like such a sweet girl.
maybe it's the wine or maybe it's the way vic is opening up to you so freely, but you decide to tell her more about your past. how you always wondered why you barely stuggled moving to another continent at such a young age, or the fact that you dont even remeber why you had the drive to leave your parents home in the first place. you didnt even remember the last words you said to each other.
and throughout it all she's nothing if not attentive, she doesnt ask questions unless you give her permission too, keeping her eyes on you and gently placing her hand over yours.
you feel a turning in your stomach when she moves a stray hand of hair behind your ear. you told yourself to try taking things slow this time, but your body is starting to feel fuzzy and shes looking at you like she wants to devour you.
she decides to indulge you and gently brushes her lips against yours, smiling at the way your breath staggers. your head moves forwards to finaly get her to kiss you but she jerks her head back.
"i want you to tell me what to do."
god, your stomach feels hot. this is new, but a really arousing style of new. the last time you both slept together she had taken a careful but unwavering charge, unraveling you with a steady hand a sweet smile.
"cmon just...please?"
"no. tell me what you want me to do."
you sigh and bite at your lip. "i want you to lay me down and fuck me. right now."
so she laid you down and she did. there were no words to describe how much you enjoyed that night on her couch, the way she could read your body like a book and brought you to ecstasy again and again and again...
and when you wake up a soft blanket is draped over your body, a brekfast of coffee and some crepes set in front of you.
the days after are a whirlwind. discreetly as possible victoria takes you on a tour of new york city, to more expensive restaurants and hidden jewels that most tourists skipped over.
youre lounging in your hotel room when you decide to inform your friends of how your trip is going. while slightly hesitant they seemed more than happy that you were enjoying yourself with someone who took a genuine interest in you.
until you told them her job.
"my love, are you insane? a politician?"
"an american politician?" chloe gasps, continuing off of jamies shock.
"hey, im american too dont forget!"
"of course you are, but please, you understand why this is not good, no?"
"you know how fishy they are, especially with all the supe business going on. that place is getting more dangerous by the day, and i dont think you should be seeing someone whos contirbuting to that."
it pained you to admit it but jamie had a point. the three of you would always laugh in amused horror at how badly things were going on in your birth country, and the politics...it was less than pleasant.
not to mention the supe business. every corner of the world had to deal with the annoyance that was vought and their "products", even france. but so far you'd just had to deal with a few perverted looks from traveling supers and talks of some stupid theme park a few miles out of the city. meanwhile, it seemed like every day a new superhero was being introduced to the American public. it unnerved you.
"i understand. i appreciate both of you looking out for me. trust me, i'll be on my guard for now on." you mumble, picking at the material of your sleeve.
"of course, songbird. we'll call again soon."
the call ends and drop your phone on the nightstand. you look at the eiffel tower cutout in your phone case and your heart aches.
the next morning you're eating a a breakfast of coffee and fruit crepes when your phone rings, dragging your atttention away from the trashy dating show you were watching on the bedroom's tv. when you see nancy's name you hesitantly answer the call.
"nance? is everything alright?"
"everything is great. i'm just here to check in about your next gig."
"my next- nance, im on vacation. please tell you didnt forget and booked me for a job when im across the ocean."
"no, im not that stupid, hon." she sighs. "i didnt even arrange this job, victoria did. im just the messenger."
you blink once. then twice. you remember vic saying something about helping you with a job but you honestly just thought that was bullshit to get her to come stay with you.
(or get in your pants. but you don’t think you’d be too upset about that now.)
“ok. thank you, nancy. tell me the details.”
it’s a lot more extravagant than you expected. victorias friend, an actual senator, was holding a fundraising event for some government program he and vic were both involved in. nancy wasn’t told what the program was, but that you would have to go through a security debrief before being told you'd be given a team to help you prepare. and picking from a selected closet of dresses. fun.
you ignore the feeling of nervousness that’s building up in your gut. because while all of your gigs were important, they were never this important. you push it down as you call victoria and thank her endlessly, when you tell your friends the minimum amount that you can tell them, and when victoria picks you up from outside your hotel twelve hours before the event even starts.
she pressed a small kiss to your hand, laughing at the grumpy and tired mumble you let out when you sit in the car seat. it only passes once she gives you a coffee she picked up, the caffeine waking you up and putting a smile on your face.
the content feeling turns into shock when you enter victorias' place and see zoe, vic throwing a short explanation of “busy babysitter” over her shoulder as she heads into the kitchen.
its a bit awkward at first, sitting on one couch as she plays on a black nintendo switch on the other. it helps when you ask her about whatever she’s playing, the girl diving into a rant about the farm game she’s playing and how she’s trying to catch a certain type of fish.
victoria comes back with a tray of breakfast for the three of you before asking her daughter how school is going, how her friends are, etc. its nice to get a glimpse into victories private life during the morning, the close bond she has with her daughter. you notice some tension but decide not to bring it up.
the morning goes by too quickly, zoe being picked up to be dropped off at a friend's house after giving you a sweet goodbye and you getting rushed upstairs as the team comes to the townhome to help you prepare. its a nice change, having other people doll you up instead of having to worry about trying to do everything correctly and by yourself. and its a perk you don't have to spend your own money to do it.
the team members are nice but punctual, finishing your hair and makeup in record time with not a second wasted. you barely get time to notice yourself in the mirror before you're ushered into a gorgeous gown, soft fabrics and a chic and elegant style.
when your finished you’re finally allowed to observe yourself while your transportation and is prepared, and it feels like you’re looking at a dream version of yourself.
as you admire yourself in the mirror vic comes up next to you, clearly enjoying herself as her eyes slowly drift up and down your body.
“you look…ethereal.” she whispers, pressing a small kiss to your cheek after you turn to smile at her.
“only because of you. i don’t know how i could ever make this up to you, vic. this is just…”
“trust me, you’ve already done enough.”
while you knew there would be some press at the event, you didn't expect over two dozen paparazzi to quickly start flashing their cameras in your direction as soon as you got out of your ride. questions about who you were wearing, the relationship you had with vic, etcetera etcetera. you would've buckled from the sudden pressure if it weren't for victoria’s steady hand on your waist, the press of her arm through her red pantsuit.
the venue is downright insane, so grand you start to wonder if you're in one of those gilded age mansions you used to read about in new york magazines. climbing pillars and art on the ceiling of the main hall, which you don't get to admire since you’re yet again whisked away to get ready.
after a few more touch ups you aren’t afforded a minute to prepare, guided to the edge of the performance area. the sinking feeling is back in your stomach. the biggest moment of your life and you feel like you’re going to be sick.
the lights dim and you glide onto the stage, able to see the shadows of the guests faces from the flickering table lights. it’s eerie, the amount of them staring up at you with eyes you can’t even see.
you were given a set list a few days prior, only a couple of songs for the payment you would apparently receive after this. the songs piqued your interest, a collection of classical melancholic pieces from around the fifties. vic told you her friend was a vintage nut, but you didn't know why he chose these for you to perform when the event seemed to have an uplifting aura.
either way it felt…different, singing this time. the spotlight was on you and you’ve never felt as beautiful as you did in this moment. everyone was watching you, so hooked on the melodies escaping your body that you could see the emotions brining some people to the edge of their seats.
you don’t let it show but you grow a bit anxious at the sight of supers in their uniforms in the crowd. you don’t see anyone from the seven, but you do notice a woman you recognized from some commercial about climate change and earth preservation, the green of her dress and the nature motifs in her outfit give you a clue as to what her power was.
just when you feel yourself about to slip, dangerously close to hitting a note at a weird pitch, you see victoria, getting deja vu at the sight of her staring at you from the bar like the first night you met. she's looking at you like she's never doubted you for a second, like you're an angel sent from above that's blessed her life.
you hold her gaze when you sing. noticing the soft smile on her face when you sing a lyric about how the feelings in your heart feel so intense you fear you're going insane.
when the first song ends the lights come back on and you're met with a polite yet thunderous applause, the smile on your face so wide your cheeks start to hurt. the presenter comes back on stage, praising your performance with a swipe at his eyes before telling the guests that the host would be on shortly, and after he gives a short speech you'd be back to sing some more. with a gentle nod and wave, you step off the stage.
you feel like you're walking on air, with no doubt that was one of your best performances yet. your emotions got a little intense there but nothing you couldn't manage, and everyone seemed to like it anyway.
you're able to send a quick text and a picture to jamie and chloe before you hear the sound of the door to your quaint dressing room open, not able to turn around before you feel hands around your waist and plush lips on the side of your neck, the sight of victoria wrapped around you in the mirror making butterflies swarm in your stomach.
"i take it you liked my singing?"
"like doesn't even begin to cover it," she mumbles into your neck, raising her head slightly to be able to hold eye contact through the mirror. "i'm so lucky i found you, y'know that?"
you playfully brush her off, telling her you have to freshen up for some mingling before you get back on stage. she gladly helps you with your makeup, and while you weren't expecting her to be so touchy tonight you definitely aren't complaining, especially when her hand starts to drift closer to the space between your legs. it takes an embarrassing amount of mental strength to deny her, promising you'll continue once you go back to her place.
once you're finished getting ready she leads you back out to the hall, introducing you to numerous business people, politicians, celebrities, etc. you try not to fangirl when you meet a singer whose songs you've been obsessed with lately and when she asks you to perform at her cousins wedding. victoria just smirks when she leads you away and you let out a tiny squeal under your breath.
once the networking is done you're able to take the time to sit down and eat some of the catered food, almost moaning at the tastes of the food. you sometimes forget just how good food could be in the states, and these rich people pulled out all the stops. you try not to eat too quickly or impolitely as victoria talks with her tablemates, some people from her job apparently. after the first introductions and praises they gave you you mentally tapped out of the situation. she luckily covers for you when they question your mood, laughing when she tells them you've had a long day of being treated like a singing barbie doll.
everyone in the room quiets down when the hos taakes the stage and starts his speech. he introduces himself as robert stendham, and you feel a little embarrassed that this man gave you the chance to sing here and you didn't even know his name. you're thinking about how odd it is that you weren't introduced before this when he mentions something about the program and you perk up.
"...extend a personal thank you to general jameson for finding the time to escape his duties to fly in and be here with us tonight, and a special thanks to director neuman for helping me with this project and finding the beautifully talented y/n to perform for us tonight."
there was a brief few seconds of applause, victoria looking around and giving out smiles while you wondered what the hell she was the director of.
"as you can see, we have a few supers with us tonight. people like hazelwood, whose efforts against climate change have lead to over a dozen organizations plating millions of trees and clearing millions of pounds of trash for the ocean. because that's what supers are supposed to do-protect us. not act like degenerates who get to do what they want because of their abilities."
your eyebrow twitches, sensing the slight anti-supe propaganda from the end of his speech. well, not anti every supe, just the ones who act like gods among men, which you could understand. but you still felt an uneasy feeling rising in your stomach. you feel vic's palm rest over the top of your hand under the table.
"which is why im incredibly honored that director and congresswoman neuman has extended a hand to me to invest in the federal bureau of superhuman affairs, and to further extend that hand to you to help participate in this monumental institution..."
everything is a fog and your brain taps out once he starts talking about what this burerua does, how they closely monitor supes and jail the ones who've caused public harm. your head feels hot and your chest feels cold, and you can't stop your body from going on auto-pilot and excusing yourself to the bathroom before finding some balcony on the higher floor.
the cold air of new york shocks your body back into normalcy, but the pounding in your head persists. it feels like a panic attack ut so much worse, like your fight or flight has been activated without anything even happening. had you rushed into all of this? chasing a girl and a dream like you were a teenager again?
yet again the door opens behind you and someone comes to stand next to you, able to tell who it is by the scent of brown sugar and the glimpse of dark hair blowing with the slight breeze.
"you alright? mr. brandon from the tech startup was asking about you, tried to make me invest in some room light plant grower hybrid-"
"why did you bring me here?"
you cut her off and the air is quiet, save for the sounds of cars and the city and the wind. it's weird, standing in a tense silence like this with her.
"how are you feeling?" she whispers .
"are you- " you turn, nearly giving yourself whiplash with the speed at which you turn to look at her. the look on her face, like she's just observing you and how you're reacting. it only upsets you more. "are you being serious?"
"yes, i am. tell me."
"no, answer my question first. why are you avoiding it?"
she sighs, brushing a few strands of hair away from her face before reaching to grab your hand, which you hesitantly let her hold.
"as you heard, im part of a buereau that monitors supherhumans, keeping track of them, making sure they cant use their powers for harm. so far we've only had to deal with supes here in the states. until one day, this couple comes in that believe their daughter has used her powers on them."
she reaches for something in her pocket and your grip tightens. she pulls out a polaroid and holds the picture up for you to see. you feel like you're going to vomit when you see you, smiling, standing with your parents in a backyard.
"what...what is this? how'd you get this?"
"the couple gave me this picture, and told me how weird the least few years have been. friends and family asking where their daughter went, how she was doing, a daughter they didnt even remeber having."
you bring a hand up to your head, hopelessly trying to dissipate the splitting headache that's forming.
"but then they said the memories started coming back. glimpses of a child running in the grass, birthday parties, graduations, talent shows-"
"stop, please just stop." you gasp, hunching over as good as you can with the restrictions of your gown. it doesn't even feel like the world is just spinning, it feels like its being played in some celestial game of pool. "so what, you're saying...you're saying i did that? to my parents?"
"yes," she reaches for the side of your face, guiding you to look up at her. "and you can do so much more. you already have."
this can't be happening.
"why do you think people react so emotionally to your singing? you think its just because you're amazing? that's not even half of it."
your breathing is picking up again.
flashes of memories start appearing in your vision. so many happy times with your parents that you forgot, friends that you left behind. how your parents didn't support your half-thought-out plan to become a singer, how you made them forget. made yourself forget.
"i don't want you to think i did all of this just for what i want. i didn't. i care about you, and i want you to help me. but you need to trust me."
the blood is rushing back and from your head, and you think about how weird her eyes look against the backdrop of the city before you pass out.

Two Faces pt 2
Tumblr media
Word Count: 12.5k Pairing: fem!reader x Bad Batch, light Tech and Crosshair nods Warnings: SFW, bitch of a mother, crosshairs mood swings, Summary: You arrive back home with Clone Force 99 to prepare to be your senator sister's stand in at an upcoming event. Letting the Batch learn more about who you actually are. Part 1 note: hope y'all like it, thank you all who sent in requests for it and suggestions. I live laugh love for this shit man.
“Ensure our guest arrives safely on her homeworld. Report back once the Gala is at an end.” Lama Su instructed Clone Force 99, his inky gaze shifting to where you stood in line with them at the steps to the Marauder. “You are most welcome here on Kamino. You have an open invitation should you find a need for it.”
Since your sister’s appearance, Lama Su’s demeanor shifted from gritted tolerance to that of a generous host. Time spent at your mother’s side taught you a politician’s patience was rarely forthcoming.
You attempted a practiced smile, the kind drilled into you from birth. “That’s something I will truly keep in mind.” Lama Su bowed his head slightly and dismissed himself, retreating back into the hangar doors.
Left alone, neither you or any of Clone Force 99 budged and a heavy silence settled over the group. From the corner of your eye, you noticed a few heads turn your way. Looking anywhere but directly at them, you piped up, “Ready whenever you are, Sergeant.” Despite Tech’s reassurances that everything had worked out 'better than predicted,' falling back into rhythm with Clone Force 99 was proving more difficult than you had hoped.
Hunter was the first to move. “Alright then, let’s move out.” He turned and you all followed, with you trailing after Crosshair as the last of the group.
Midway up the stairs Crosshair turned and extended a hand to you - an offer of assistance and perhaps a peace offering. A gesture you walked right by. Crosshair retracted his hand and, mostly, kept his frustration in his throat.
They’d told you about their ship, a modified Omicron-class attack shuttle, but being on it was certainly a different experience. The smell alone disenchanted your anticipation. Touches of the different men were strewn throughout. A knocked over stack of history magazines, food wrappers, half used tins of gun oil, and what looked to be sliced up target practice sheets. It was fairly easy to see who left what, but oddly enough there was hardly a trace of Echo.
Tech caught your hesitant inspection and directed you to the passenger seats. “Sit here during take-off.” Tech pointed to a seat equipped with restraints. “Once we make the jump into    hyperspace, it will be safe for you to navigate the ship.” You silently took a seat, pulling the over-the-shoulder restraints into place.
Tech left for the pilot’s seat, Echo already in position as the copilot. Hunter positioned himself in front of a navigational screen, between the cockpit and your seats, while Wrecker and Crosshair accompanied you in the restraint seats. The restraints barely accommodated Wrecker’s size, causing his arms to push into your space as he sat on your left. Across from you, Crosshair stared you down.
In the hours between the confrontation with your sister and packing onboard the Marauder you’d deliberately avoided Crosshair. He, on the other hand, tracked you with that hawkish watch of his and didn’t take his eyes off you.
His watching you, deciphering you, was a part of him processing the shifted dynamics. Much like you trying to piece together how Tech found out your identity, Crosshair ran through your weeks together, over and over, searching for all the clues he’d missed. He searched your face as if the specks on your face would tell him.
Mostly, he kept counting the scars on your face. One nicked across your nose, likely from his elbow cracking you across the face. Another cut through your eyebrow with a matching one sat on top of your cheekbone. Admitting to himself, it was difficult to discern which of his many blows might have caused these specific marks.
A large part of him actively ignored the thought of what bruises may be hidden beneath your clothes..
He grit his teeth as he watched you continue to pointedly ignore him. He thought bitterly, If you’d just told us from the beginning I wouldn’t have been so severe. Your eyes cut to him with a look as sharp as his. Crosshair narrowed his eyes, a silent challenge between you. Your only response was a twist of your mouth, looking away in disinterest.
“Care to share what’s on that pretty little mind of yours?” The sneer in Crosshair’s voice had you closing your eyes, summoning your remaining patience. “Or do you want to keep us all in the dark?”
You rolled out your jaw, nodding through a deep breath. Settling on the sorriest excuse for a smile, you responded, “It must be difficult to never know when to shove off.” Your words elicited a low growl from the sniper, adding genuine enjoyment to your expression.
Wrecker sat still, gripping his ill fit restraints and keeping his good eye on you with a sideways look. Unlike his brother, Wrecker had made no attempts to push you up to that point. While roughing up a reg during training was standard for him, realizing it had been you all along left him uneasy. The memory of how you had fought against his grip when he had you by the throat now churned his stomach.
The entire vessel shifted and blue light cascaded through the ship. “We’ve made the jump into hyperspace.” Echo announced from the cockpit.
Crosshair shoved himself free of the restraints and stalked off for the front of the ship. You attempted to follow suit, but your restraints didn’t release as smoothly.
Frustration got the better of you and you rammed your hands twice into the bars before Wrecker gently released the safety device. He crouched down to your eye level, anxiety pulling at him. “Listen, I didn’t know it was you under that armor.” He shook his head lightly. “And I’d do it again with any reg… But I-I’m sorry it was you.” Wrecker’s eyes searched the floor for something else to say.
His expression tugged at your heart just enough for you to cave. “Wrecker,” you leaned forward and touched his shoulder. “I’m not mad with you, you couldn’t have known and, honestly, would be weirder if you had.” Wrecker kept his gaze averted, guilt still eating him.
“I take offense to that.” Tech chimed as he walked over.
Ignoring him, you gently turned Wrecker’s face to you. “The only reason I’m upset is that you would ever think this was a game to me.”
His eyes went wide and his head snapped back. “No, no! I never said that!”
“Then why lie and play soldier?” Crosshair said simultaneously from his seat next to Hunter. Crosshair placed a toothpick in his mouth and reclined.
“Crosshair, stow it!” Wrecker snapped, pivoting on the balls of his feet. “You’re just making it worse.”
You truly believed that coming from anyone else, the question might not have stung so sharply. But coming from Crosshair, it made you want to scream.
“You know what?” You took a deep breath and stood, gently nudging Wrecker aside. As you exhaled, you clapped your hands together, your attempt to stay calm crumbling as your voice escalated to a yell. “I’m sorry. I am. I am sorry for going along with your mix-up!”
Crosshair grit his teeth and tensed in his chair, a snake ready to strike.
Puffing your chest out, you thrust a finger at him, “I wasn’t playing soldier. I want to join my sister’s guard, so my mother sent me to train. If no one knew I was here and I got the training, I was going to do just that.” You groaned at the thought. The edge in your voice ebbed as you lamented, “Letting you think I was my sister seemed like an easy alibi. I’m sorry I lied to you, but I’d do it again if I had to.”
The topic begged the question, what will happen now that they know?
Tech, not fully grasping the situation, interjected, “Requiring you to mask your presence suggests this wasn’t a decision she was happy with.”
That was not a road you wanted to go down with them. Waving the comment aside with a flippant hand you replied. “She had a different plan for my life. This was just her making sure I knew what I was getting into.” You were surprised at how convincing your tone sounded.
Hunter turned away from the navigational screen, leaning back with a foot propped up on his knee, clearly skeptical. “She had to have known you’d get the kriff kicked out of you with us—or worse. Why not just send you to train with your sister’s guard?
Your chest tightened at the question. “Mother only wants what’s best,” you lied smoothly. Gesturing towards them all, you added in a lighter tone, “Besides, why train with guards when I can learn from the elite?”
Leaning against the back of Hunter’s chair, Echo looked incredulous. “Have you ever even stepped foot in a training facility before?”
You hummed an affirmative, holding your breath, but with the eyes of unconvinced soldiers on you, you quickly exhaled and admitted, “No.”
“In that case,” Tech said, pointing a finger at you. “I’m impressed you managed to only get your nose broken once.”
“We broke your nose?” Hunter sat upright suddenly, surprise in his voice. You resisted the urge to touch your nose or glance at Crosshair.
“I chose this,” you stated firmly, pressing a hand to your chest. “I had chances to back out, and I came anyway. I’d rather you treat me like the clone you thought I was than look at me with pity.” You gestured towards Hunter, whose face was an odd mix of pity and concern. “Honestly, I’d prefer that,” you added, nodding towards Crosshair.
You had hoped the small gesture would serve as your own olive branch, but a glance at Crosshair told you it hadn’t worked. He maintained a tight-lipped frown, his expression stubbornly aggravated. The standoff between you two lingered until you took a step towards him, and he rose from his chair, meeting you halfway with a defiant stance.
“What more could you possibly want from me?” you demanded, hands flaring palms up. There was a raw satisfaction in shedding the veil of polite politics and expressing your true feelings. Voicing your frustration felt liberating, like stretching long-dormant muscles.
Crosshair tilted his head down to meet your gaze, the toothpick rolling to one corner of his mouth. His voice was low and steady, “You attacked me.”
Fury surged through you as you snatched the toothpick from his lips. “Attacked you?” you nearly shouted, incredulous.
Leaning in, Crosshair scrutinized your seething expression, face flushed and fists clenched. Then, unexpectedly, a barely there smile cracked his scowl. Now he was just having fun.
“Crosshair.” Hunter warned as he slowly started to rise.
“You heard me,” Crosshair retorted swiftly, emphasizing each word, “You. Attacked. Me.”
Echo was too slow to intervene as you grabbed the lip of Crosshair’s chestplate. He snorted dismissively, and you were consumed by a silent, burning rage. Something primal snapped within you, and without words, only a fierce growl escaped you as you lunged at Crosshair, hands driven by pent-up anger.
Crosshair began to laugh, a mocking, bitter sound that only fueled your rage as Hunter grabbed him and pulled him back. Echo swiftly moved between you two, his arms outstretched to create a barrier. Your fingers slipped from Crosshair’s armor as you reached desperately past Echo, trying to get at the sniper.
Hunter, his frustration evident, shoved Crosshair further away and then spun around, pointing a finger sharply at you He then turned to address both of you, his voice raised over the commotion. “How many times do we have to break you two up?” His tone was stern, a mix of reprimand and exasperation reflecting the strain of repeatedly managing your confrontations.
As Hunter pushed Crosshair further away, Crosshair shot back a snarky, taunting remark. "If she could keep her hands to herself, we wouldn't need breaking up."
With a low growl, you threw the toothpick still clutched in your hand, watching it strike Crosshair squarely in the face. It was a minor victory, but seeing his annoyance flare was satisfying. Stepping back slightly, no longer trying to shove past Echo, you fixed Crosshair with a taunting smirk. “Ah, so that’s what’s bothering you. This is the first time a woman’s touched you without a medkit.”
Hunter, witnessing the petty exchange, rubbed the bridge of his nose in frustration. "Enough!" he barked, hand chopping in front of him. "We’re on a mission, and I need you two to not kill each other. If I have to keep you separated until we reach our destination, I will."
Notching his hand at his hip, Hunter sighed. Looking at you he shook his head. “Well, you certainly don’t act like a Senator.” Amusement lifted the tattooed side of his mouth.
“Or a soldier,” Crosshair added sharply, slipping another toothpick into his mouth. He watched you a second longer before giving a light scoff, “But good to know our little kitten has grown claws.”
‘Little kitten’ heated your face but Echo guided you away before you could take the bait. “If you haven’t stepped foot in a training facility,” he said, ushering you towards the front of the ship. “What about the cockpit of an attack shuttle?”
And with that you were distracted, allowing for the rest of the journey to pass in relative peace. Aided largely by the fact that you and Crosshair now had a ship and four soldiers between you.
As the ship began its descent, Tech started detailing the time differences and adjusting for the local standard. Wrecker, seated beside you, yelled, “Yeah, yeah, we can tell it’s late.”
“Or really early,” you quipped, nudging him playfully. Truly, you hadn’t kept track. It turned out to be late into the evening.
Echo and Crosshair had swapped seats, positioning Crosshair in the copilot's seat and further from you. Sitting across from you, Echo leaned forward slightly, curiously asking, “Who do you think is receiving you?”
“Receiving me?” You parroted in confusion.
Wrecker nudged you playfully, flashing a grin. “Yeah! Who’s waiting for ya at the platform?”
Your eyebrows shot up as you glanced down, realizing you hadn't considered this. Normally, no one 'received' you unless your sister was visiting home. You managed a smile, easing into the conversation. “That’s not really a tradition of ours.”
“That’s odd,” Tech said, extending his neck out and raising his voice to ensure you heard him. “I read that the planet’s governor, that is your mother, is well known for her welcoming of distinguished guests.”
“Well, I’m not a guest,” you responded sharply, a hint of bitterness in your voice. With a forced laugh and a casual flip of your hand, you added to cover your misstep, “That is, I’m not just a guest, I’m family.”
As the ship landed and the restraints remained locked in place, Crosshair spoke for the first time in hours. “Looks like you’re wrong about that.” His tone made you strain against your restraining bars in attempts to see outside.
You were unable to see anything but the sky view of the hangar. But you were sure of it, if anyone was there it was your sister. The thought flipped your stomach.
As soon as the restraints unlocked—and Wrecker helped free you—you dashed for the exit. Crosshair was at the mouth of the exit when you pushed past him, hurrying down the stairs. Your chest heaved with anticipation as you spun around, searching for a familiar face, but your sister was nowhere to be seen.
As you were about to have words with Crosshair, your attention snagged on the sight of three clone troopers walking around the ship. Approaching you were two unmarked clones flanking a Clone Captain distinguished by teal blue markings.
CT-7569, the Captain assigned to your planet. The clone presence was meant to be a show of good faith by the Republic, but your mother treated them as ornamental. They ‘maintained peace’ by bolstering your mother’s security and accompanying important trade vessels. CT-7569 usually escorted your mother - you found it made her presence more tolerable. In the end, you and the Captain spent many mindless political gatherings in each other’s company.
As the Captain approached, you wracked your brain trying to recall the name he went by. Embarrassment set in as you realized you might never have known his name, despite having memorized his designation number long ago.
Pushing those thoughts aside, you stepped forward with a genuine smile. “Captain,” you greeted warmly.
“Good to see you back, Miss,” the Captain replied as he halted a few feet away, his men positioning themselves to his sides. His helmet shifted slightly, his gaze drifting past you. “I was wondering if you’d return. I hardly believed it when they said you went to Kamino.”
You edged closer, lowering your voice to a hiss. “How do you know about that?”
“You left with the Governor and Senator, but only they returned. Seeing as how that flight log only showed a trip to Kamino… well it wasn’t hard to figure out.” He chuckled, the sound echoing slightly inside his helmet as he reached up to remove it. The familiar features of the Captain started showing, all wrinkled by an amused smile. “So, how’d that conversation go?” he asked, referring to your discussion with your mother about your plans. His gaze then darted past you, doing a double-take. “Wait—is that the Bad Batch?”
You gave an empty blink. “The what now?” A smile wobbled your lips. They certainly never mentioned that.
CT-7569 nodded, letting out an impressed laugh. “Experimental Unit 99. They call themselves the Bad Batch.” His eyes held a touch of shock before he shifted to a questioning look at you. “This is definitely a story I want to hear.”
“Captain,” Hunter greeted, stepping up beside you with Echo on his other side, while Tech positioned himself next to you. Wrecker and Crosshair presumably took places behind you, maintaining their distance. They all kept their helmets on, reminding you of the edge ‘regs’ put them on.
CT-7569 straightened up, his accompanying clones mimicking his posture, and he replaced his helmet. “I’ve heard good things about your squad, Sergeant. Good to meet you, men.” He extended a hand to Hunter, and they clasped each other’s forearms in a soldierly greeting.
“Thank you, sir.” Hunter nodded
As the Captain and Hunter exchanged pleasantries, you desperately thought back for the Captain’s name. You had faint recollections of hearing it in passing or his men occasionally dropping formalities. Those snippets were vague but persistent, hinting you were just a syllable away from full recognition.
The Captain looked back to you and the name clicked in place. He began telling you something, but your thoughts were far from his voice. Instead you were lost in the thought of having treated the clone before you, a soldier who offered you kindness when that was beyond the scope of his mission, as just a nameless soldier. You were always polite and grateful for their support and the respect you had for clones inspired you to protect your sister, but you’d rarely thought of who they were beyond soldiers.
And with him, you were practically friends.
“Miss?” The Captain’s voice finally reeled you back in. When he saw your focus return he said, “The Governor gave no orders for your arrival, but we can take the men to our barracks wing to settle in.” Pivoting to his men, he began giving orders to escort Clone Force 99.
You quickly cut in.
“Howzer,” The name immediately silenced him. He seemed caught off by the sound of his name on your tongue.  “There is plenty of room in my wing. I’ll show them up.”
He opened his mouth to respond, but you pressed on, “The Governor didn’t issue orders because their mission requires discretion. An empty wing is more suitable than a barrack on full display.” You’d taken some liberties speaking for your mother, but he didn’t need to know that. Instead you added, “Which reminds me, why are you here if she gave no orders.”
Howzer chuckled warmly. "I spotted an inbound ship from Kamino on the flight manifest this afternoon. I figured it was you and couldn’t resist the chance to see you limping off of a ship.” The sentiment made you laugh. He added, nodding his head, “Just wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“She held her own,” Hunter came up beside you with a hand on your shoulder. “Even got the better of one of us once.”
“Twice.” You quickly corrected, earning a disgruntled noise from the sniper behind you. The curious tilt in Howzer’s helmet, from behind you and back, made you smile.
“Well then,” Howzer relaxed, a smile in his voice. “We’ll leave you to it. I’m sure I’ll see you tomorrow.” He turned to depart, but you reached out and grasped his arm to stop him. He looked from your hand to your face.
“Thank you, Howzer,” you said earnestly, sliding your hand down to his and giving it a warm squeeze. “For being my friend.”
His helmet shifted back slightly, caught off guard once more. After a brief pause, he nodded and returned the squeeze gently. “No need to thank me,” he responded lightly.  “Just a perk of the job,” he addressed you by name and you could have heard the wink in his voice. You realize he might have never said it before. Howzer turned away with his squad following. As they walked off, one of the troopers elbowed him lightly, only to receive an aggressive shove in return.
“I think I might be sick.” Crosshair murmured from behind you.
You snorted, looking over your shoulder at him. “Feeling queasy, huh? Maybe it’s just your batch going bad,” you teased, giving a playful nod to the nickname you had just learned. Crosshair groaned and Echo coughed to hide a laugh. Bad joke.
“Oh, c’mon.” You gestured for them to follow. “Let’s get to bed.”
Your family home was an architectural marvel built into the side of a mountain, its expansive windows offering a panoramic view of your planet’s capital city below. The residence had been in your family for generations, serving not just as a home but as a political hub, given your family's long history of public service. Though not every generation produced a Governor, there always seemed to be someone who utilized the sprawling estate as a political stage. Under your mother and sister’s tenure, it had practically transformed into an embassy.
Nestled on the quieter, mountain-facing side of the house were your private quarters. Your room, located at the end of a secluded corridor, offered a reprieve from the politics of the main halls. The other two rooms along your corridor remained mostly unoccupied, reserved for the occasional guest, a benefit of your mother's preference to keep you out of the public eye.
You paused at the door next to yours, explaining the solitude of your hall. Extending a hand towards the spare room, you said, “Either room can accommodate your squad, but feel free to use one or both.”
The group exchanged looks, weighing their options. Echo mumbled something about needing a break from the usual barracks scent, but ultimately, they decided to stick together. Their loyalty to one another reminded you of the times your sister would stealthily retreat to your room during her political campaigns. On especially tough days, she would stay the night, and in the early, dark hours of the morning, you would both slip away to the nearby hot springs.
The memory used to be a safe haven for you. Now it left you feeling oddly cold.
After bidding the boys goodnight, you retreated to your room. Setting aside a bag for the morning, you prepared for a much-needed early soak in the warm springs.
Waking well before dawn, you were eager for the comforting waters. From the back of your closet, you retrieved an old rope ladder with patches of fabric woven into it—evidence of years of repairs. Hardly necessary now, the ladder had been a crucial part of your escapades during your younger years, when you were more tightly bound by your mother’s expectations.
Your room opened onto a quaint veranda, bordered by sturdy stone balusters. This railing, carved from the mountain itself, served as your usual escape route.
As you’d done numerous times, you tied the rope off and unfurled it over the ledge of the terrace. Peering down, you were reassured to see the ladder hanging just a few feet above the   ground. Despite the 100-foot drop, a few firm tugs on the knots confirmed it was secure. Bag slung over your shoulder, you straddled the railing, preparing to make your descent.
“That would not be advisable.”
The unexpected voice sent a jolt through you, your arms instinctively gripping the railing to prevent a startled fall. Pressing your face against the cold stone, you scanned for the source of the interruption.
The veranda wrapped around the building, with each room opening onto its own curved section. There, leaning casually against the railing of the adjacent balcony, were Tech and Hunter. Hunter rested his elbows on the railing, a cup of caf hanging between his hands, while Tech leaned his hip against the railing, also sipping his drink. Both were wearing a set of black casual clothes, a long sleeve shirt and pants. It was Tech who had called out to you.
Tech adjusted his goggles, scrutinizing the rope ladder with a critical eye. After a moment, he relaxed slightly and nodded to himself. “The multiple repairs, along with the current condition of the rope, significantly compromise its integrity. If you attempt to climb down, the likelihood of the rope failing is high. You would fall from approximately,” he paused, his gaze measuring the drop, “68 feet.”
“You don’t know that,” you muttered, rolling your eyes as you climbed back onto the safety of the veranda.
“Care to test that theory?” Tech retorted, an amused challenge in his tone, though he already knew your answer.
Instead of responding, you walked over to the stone wall divider, where vines clung and crawled up its surface. Grabbing one, you used it for leverage to hoist yourself onto the railing and then climbed along the railing to their side of the veranda.
Hunter, witnessing the muscle memory in your movements, took a leisurely sip of his caf. "Does that come from having a sister too?" he commented dryly, watching as you landed beside them.
You snorted, “More from young rebellious years.” Glancing around, you noticed the absence of the other men
“Still asleep.” Hunter answered your search, gesturing a thumb over his shoulder. Hunter stood to face you, half sitting on the railing and looking you over with a raised brow. “What exactly were you doing?”
You nodded towards the treeline and the forest beyond. “There’s a hot spring not too far up the mountain.” Tech set his cup on the stone handrail and pulled out his datapad, tapping a few buttons as you continued, “My sister and I used to sneak out from time to time for a dip.”
Tech, always the analyst, chimed in, “I am picking up a heat signature a kilometer out.” He pivoted, scanning in other directions. “This mountain must have volcanic properties to create such a natural phenomenon.”
Impressed, you hummed in agreement. “You’re not wrong—”
“I seldom am,” Tech interjected, still focused on his device.
“—the mountain was once a volcano,” you finished, matching his flat tone.
Tech, now fully absorbed in geological data, murmured, “Fascinating how such places become sanctuaries over time.”
Hunter half-sat on the railing as he watched the sky beginning to lighten. Following his line of sight, you asked, “Are you two always the first ones up?”
“We’re terrible sleepers,” Hunter replied, throwing a knowing glance at Tech. “Tech’s brain doesn’t have an off switch.”
Tech rolled his eyes as he switched from his datapad to the device on his forearm. "And his heightened senses make him easy to disturb," he explained, tapping a few buttons before squinting at the screen. "So, yes, to answer your question—Hunter and I are usually awake before the others."
You heard Crosshair before you saw him. “Not for long with your prattling.” Crosshair appeared, pushing through a fabric curtain. Despite the dim morning light, he squinted as he joined you outside, his gaze shifting between you as if searching for an unsaid clue. Finally his eyes looked you over and he sucked on a tooth, asking, “Here with our orders so soon?” You didn’t miss the lighter tone in his voice. He was joking with you.
Well that’s a good step.
The early hour dampened your mood for bickering, so you forced a smile instead of biting back. “You are as lovely in the mornings as I’ve dreamt.” you quipped, immediately regretting your choice of words by the look he shot you, avoiding his smirk by pretending to brush dirt off of your sleeve. “On the note though, we can expect a droid with our instructions sometime-”
“Mistress?!” A panicked, metallic female voice echoed from your quarters.
“Now, apparently,” you huffed, impressed yet annoyed by the droid’s timing. “Just a second, 9-E!” you called back to the protocol droid now audibly clattering through your rooms. The three men barely had a moment to react before you turned back to the ivy-covered wall. “Another reason to be glad you stopped me,” you tossed over your shoulder as you climbed.
By the end of the next hour, your family’s silver protocol droid was leading you and the Batch to your mother’s salon. It was the room she formally received visitors in and her typical venue for confrontation. You were particularly worried about the latter category.
“9-E,” you said, holding the droid back by the shoulder just before reaching the salon's doors. The droid swiveled its head to face you, and you gave its shoulder a reassuring pat. “I need to speak with my mother alone. You can come by afterwards, okay?”
The droid seemed to fuss for a moment but ultimately nodded, its voice a mix of concern and programmed calm. “Try not to provoke her this time, Young Mistress. She is in good spirits this morning,” it advised before waddling away. 9-E had been a loyal fixture in your life, often acting as a stand-in nanny. You respected its reverence for your mother, which is why you spared it from witnessing the more challenging family moments.
“What exactly are we walking into?” Hunter mumbled to you.
“Nothing to worry about.” You reassured, but you had a feeling your face didn’t match your tone.
Pushing open the heavy salon doors, you stepped into a room bathed in morning light, offering a panoramic view of the capital. The salon was meticulously arranged with luxurious decor that spoke of your family’s political heritage. At the far end, your mother, the Governor, stood two steps up by a large window, her silhouette framed against the cityscape.
The tall woman stood in a deep purple dress with an overcoat of similar color, all with golden embroidery. Her eyes combed the lot of you as you approached, her expression undeniably cold. There were no witnesses present so there was no show to put on.
In fact, the lack of guards or attendants did not bode well for the conversation.
You paused at the base of the steps leading up to where she stood, the rest of Clone Force 99 arrayed slightly behind. They all stood firm with their helmets tucked under their arms.
“Good job on the prompt return,” she said, cold yet perfectly polite, as if she were addressing a droid rather than her daughter.
“I would never keep you waiting,” you responded, maintaining the formal veneer.
Her lips twitched in what might have been a smile on a more congenial face but came off as a grimace. “You’ve already done so,” she said crisply. “Come here.”
Not wanting to further prove her point, you immediately ascended the steps. She reached out abruptly, her fingers clamping around your chin with a firmness that bordered on painful. Slowly, she moved your face side to side examining the marks, some still pink, on your face. Her lip curled. “The only thing you had going for you,” she murmured disdainfully, releasing your face with a sharp flick of her wrist.
Turning her gaze on the men assembled a step below, she gestured towards you without looking back. “Surely, the Prime Minister instructed you not to coddle her.”
Hunter, Wrecker, and Tech exchanged uncertain glances. From where they stood, it did not look like they coddled you. Crosshair and Echo kept their eyes on your mother. One was coiled for her next move while the other knew better than to take his eyes off an unpredictable politician.
Hunter didn’t recall Lama Su giving that directive and he didn’t have the political finesse to know what answer your mother wanted to hear. His eyes slid to you once more, before answering with cautious formality. “We trained her as rigorously as any member of the Republic's forces, Governor.”
Your mother's attention drifted downward contemplatively before returning to you with a subtle nod. Waving a hand at you, she managed a disappointed smile as she addressed Clone Force 99. “And that is all an elite clone force is capable of?” She held up a finger, considering something for a moment. Without further comment, she moved gracefully around to your back.
Her hands felt cold and foreign, you barely resisted the urge to lean out of her probing touch. With pressure she slid her hands over your shoulders and down your back, probing for vulnerabilities. Occasionally her hand grazed a bruise, at which you tensed but didn’t react further. Then, her fingers found their mark—just behind your shoulder, a spot still tender from Crosshair drilling into you.
As the pain sharply cut through your muscle, you instinctively jerked forward. Your mother's firm grip on your shoulder kept you in place as she pressed harder into the tender spot. The discomfort escalated until a grunt of pain escaped you, at which point she finally eased up. Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed movement among the clones.
"There we are," she crooned, her voice chillingly soft as she pushed you toward the troopers. "My apologies for questioning your efficacy."
You hardly stumbled, but cleared your throat against the still present ache in your shoulder. Straightening out, you kept your eyes averted. You’d withstood your mother’s treatment your entire life. You let yourself believe it served a purpose. Whether it was to raise you to her standards or simply to prove her point. This felt different. Humiliating you served no purpose at this moment. After a lifetime of this, you thought, perhaps it’s just what you deserved.
Finally, you looked at Clone Force 99 thinking you’d find them at attention, trained into stoicism. Instead, they no longer stood in line.
Crosshair was further out than the others, mid-step, nearly mid-bite and restrained only by Wrecker's firm grip on his shoulder. Wrecker himself stood uncharacteristically still, his usual demeanor replaced by seriousness. Wrecker was holding Crosshair back, but you’d be forgiven to think he was urging his brother on. Beside him, Hunter and Echo mirrored each other’s posture, frowning with fists clenched at their sides, looking like they were about to snap. At the end of the line, Tech maintained the most composed state, though a slight frown tugged at his features as he held a finger to the light on his goggles.
Theirs was more of a reaction than most who had witnessed a glimpse of your mother. These men barely knew you and they didn’t think you deserved this.
They didn’t deserve to see this.
You offered a smile to the men who barely knew you. None of them moved as you tucked your hands behind your back and faced your mother.
She didn’t bother meeting your gaze, rolling her eyes away as to not entertain whatever confidence struck you. “The Gala is tomorrow evening, you will be briefed later.” Later, her always had a vague way of leaving you waiting. “Make yourselves scarce until then.” She waved you off, turning to face the cityscape again as if you and the situation at hand were little more than a minor inconvenience in her day.
You gave a respectful bow and swiftly made for the door. Without hesitating, you passed directly between the members of Clone Force 99, not waiting to see if they offered any form of courtesy to your mother before following you.
You all stayed silent until you made it back into the corridor.
“Now you see the reason for the rope ladder.” You said lightly as you led them away.
Echo quickened his step to match yours, a look of concern - if not anger - on his face. “What happened there? That woman is your mother?” He gestured incredulously back towards the salon, shaking his head “She’s... she’s cruel.”
“Always has been.” you replied with a shrug, not bothering to hide your truth anymore. “I’m just sorry you saw it.”
“Someone like that shouldn’t be leading people.” Echo asserted.
You didn’t stop walking, but managed to side eye Echo. “She’s not like that with others.” That answer didn’t calm the cyborg.
Tech chimed in from behind, his datapad beeping softly. “It’s surprising she hasn’t been exposed on the Holonet with that kind of behavior.”
“You’ll understand once you see her tomorrow. There’s no surprise in it.” you scoffed, leading them further away from the scene.
The group murmured amongst themselves, clearly troubled by the encounter. Wanting to shift their focus from your mother, you planned to seize the opportunity presented by the early morning chill in the air.
As you approached your rooms, you spun around, effectively blocking their access to their quarters with a playful stance. They all looked so somber.
“Enough of that.” You said sternly, but there was a lightness in your chest that you hadn’t felt in ages. They remained in similar shades of uncertainty.
The absurdity of it all hit you —the idea that your mother, with just a small show of herself, could unsettle a group of battle-hardened soldiers. These men faced deadly threats without flinching, yet here they were, shaken by the woman who raised you. The stark contrast between their usual bravado and their current discomfort was ridiculous, really.
Laughter burst from you, resonant and unrestrained, filling the stone corridor. Echo muttered something to Hunter that you didn’t catch, but it only fueled your amusement further. Your sides began to ache, pulling at a tender bruise, yet you continued to chuckle through the discomfort. For a moment, you thought you’d never be able to stop.
Wrecker’s brows were the first to lift as he surveyed his brothers’ reactions. You covered your mouth with your hand, another laugh threatening to bubble out. Crosshair and Tech shared a look of confusion and evident disturbance. The sight of Tech’s furrowed brow and slightly open mouth pushed you over the edge again.
As the last waves of humor receded, you clutched your sides, threw your head back, and expelled one final, drawn-out sigh. A lazy smile spread across your face as you met their gazes once more. Shaking your head, you teased, “You face droid armies and risk your lives every day.” You gestured dismissively towards the direction of your mother’s salon. “And one measly Governor ruffles your feathers?”
A short pause passed and Tech said in a flat tone, “I think I am glad to not have had a mother.” Echo groaned, covering his eyes with his hand, but you found the sentiment funny.
To shake the residual tension, you sighed, “Listen, I really don’t want to dwell on her right now. Instead…” You slid back a few steps, nodding over your shoulder with an adventurous glint. “Come with me to the hot springs?”
Wrecker perked up first. "The hot springs?" His interest was evident as he shared a smile with his brothers, but Hunter remained reserved, arms crossed, his expression tight.
"They're worth the hike," you coaxed, waving them to follow. "It's not far, and it's the perfect way to unwind."
Hunter's brow furrowed as he considered the risks. "We don’t know when the Governor might call us back. It's best not to stray too far," he advised pragmatically. With a heavy sigh, he added, "I'll stay back, keep watch for any messages."
"Same here," Echo interjected, raising his scomp-link arm slightly. "Besides, long soaks really aren't my thing anymore."
You looked hopefully at the remaining three. Wrecker pumped his fist in the air, clearly eager. Surprisingly, Crosshair, despite his sour look, gave a shrug. "I’m in," he said, placing a toothpick bobbing between his lips.
Tech pulled his datapad out, but gave a quick wave. “I will join as well. I'm curious about the natural phenomenon." He paused, pointing a finger at you. "However, we're definitely not using your ladder."
That comment drew a wary look from Wrecker. "Ladder?" he asked.
Which made sense once the lot of you stood at your veranda’s railing. Tech and Crosshair were down to their blacks, the closest You’d just finished pulling up your ladder when Wrecker stepped back. “On second thought, you guys go ahead. I’ll stay here.” He said uneasily.
You spun on him. “What?!”
Hunter clapped him on the shoulder, chuckling. "Come on, Wrecker, it's not that high."
Tech stepped up beside you to peek over the railing. “That’s about 20 feet too high for his comfort,” he clarified, diagnosing Wrecker’s hesitation. “He's not great with heights.
Wrecker rubbed the back of his neck, his discomfort apparent. “Yeah, I’ll pass this time,” he admitted, resigning himself.
“Alright,” Echo interjected, heading back inside. "Let’s go find some food then," he suggested, inviting Wrecker to join him in a more comfortable pursuit.
Hunter pushed off from his spot leaning against the railing. “You three have fun, but don’t be too long.” He followed after Echo and Wrecker, pausing at the doorway to your quarters to sigh, “Just don’t kill each other.”
The annoyed sound Crosshair usually made at such comments didn’t come. Looking as bored as ever, Crosshair was busy scoping out the ground below. His lack of response felt underwhelming. He passed a cool look at you before silently grabbing for the bag he and Tech brought. From it he pulled a grappling hook and a descent device.
Tossing the device at Tech, Crosshair tossed the bag over his shoulder. “I’m going down first.” He pointed a finger at Tech. “You get to carry her down.”
The three of you ventured to the hot springs, Crosshair notably silent for the duration of the journey. Once there, Tech immediately scoped the surrounding area. The hot springs were a true miracle of the mountain. Nestled at the bottom of a hollow, a handful of pools steamed off into the branching hanging above. The pools were all interconnected, hot water bubbling between them and lapping against the smooth stones lining their boundaries.
This quiet nook, forgotten by all but you, was your sanctuary. The cloud forest and warm waters felt like a personal sacrament, and sharing them with someone, especially Tech with his eager fascination, filled you with a sense of happiness. A feeling that quickly vanished upon looking at Crosshair. The residual smile fell from your face. He wasn’t looking at you but his face was one of disinterest.
The spectrum of Crosshair you’d witnessed over the course of a few days made you realize how little you truly knew the men of Clone Force 99. You’d expected their reaction in various shades of Tech’s reaction. Annoyance and skepticism you’d prepared for, not this sudden coldness.
Only a few hours prior he’d seemed at least cordial for the first time since learning the truth. Now, he seemed unable to even look at you.
When it came time to shed your outerwear, Crosshair’s reaction was sharp. A sweeping look of you sent distaste across his features, and he turned away, leaving abruptly. Tech dismissed it as just another example of Crosshair’s stubborn nature, but to you, it felt deeply personal.
You checked yourself before entering the waters. Outside of a few bruises he would’ve known about, there was nothing scandalous about your bathing suit.
Moving from his perch at the edge of the pool, Tech dipped into the waters next to you. He shook his head, gesturing to where Crosshair had stood. “Problem?”
You bit the inside of your cheek, determined not to let Crosshair's attitude dampen the moment. Leaning back against the warm rocks, you turned towards Tech, who was now unguarded and bare in the water. “Perhaps one,” you said with a light tone, your eyes inadvertently scanning his exposed skin.
Your eyes roved Tech’s bare upper body, thankful for your already present flush from the springs. As Tech lifted his goggles to defog them, you peek beneath the water's surface and your face heated at the realization that he was completely nude. Once his goggles were back in place, he caught your gaze. “And what would that be?”
“You are naked,” you pointed out, an amused undertone in your voice.
Without missing a beat, Tech replied, “And your clothes are transparent.” His response made you snap your attention to your own attire. To your horror, Tech was right - the wet fabric had gone see-through.
Tech glanced down at himself, seemingly puzzled, then shrugged. “As I have never partaken in such recreation before, I merely followed your example” The bubbling waters filled the brief silence that followed. Tech’s gaze flicked from your chest back to your eyes, his expression marked by genuine confusion. “What is the issue?” he asked.
Not even a shadow of understanding graced his face, he was devoid of any of your engrained reservations. It occurred to you that perhaps the social nuances of nudity were lost on clones. What use would trivial embarrassment serve for soldiers?
Tech’s gaze dropped to your chest again, but you saw nothing lewd in his attention. In place of the lechery you’d expect, his expression only held curiosity - as if your skin could tell him what you weren’t. Here was Tech, a battle seasoned soldier, sharing a moment of innocence with you free of the judgmental social expectations you were trained to abide by. The realization took away the anxiety you felt.
Chuckling, you managed to speak through your amusement, “They’re not supposed to be transparent, you know.” Your humor softened into a warm smile as you observed Tech’s puzzled expression. “It’s generally good practice to wear something a bit more... substantial when you’re swimming.” You waved a hand over your transparent clothing. Winking at him you added, “Or at least when you're in mixed company.”
Tech absorbed this information, his head tilting slightly as if filing away a new data point. “Ah, social norms?” he queried, more intrigued by the learning opportunity than embarrassed by his faux pas.
“Yes, exactly,” you agreed, your smile lingering. “But honestly, don’t worry about it. It’s just us here, and it’s actually quite refreshing to just relax about it.” You appreciated his unguarded state, a rare departure from his usual precision.
Nodding in understanding, Tech’s slight smile suggested he was becoming more comfortable with the situation. Adjusting his goggles he cleared his voice. “I will take note,” he responded, his voice carrying a hint of amusement now joining yours. A hue of pink came to his complexion - whether it was due to the warm waters or the new information you weren’t sure.
You watched him for a moment, the scientist in him always observing, always analyzing. It was endearing and made him all the more fascinating.
“Speaking of relaxing,” you said cautiously, curious about his thoughts beyond his duties. “Have you ever thought about what you’d like to do when the war is over?”
Tech paused, his gaze drifting off across the steamy water. “I haven’t given it much thought,” he admitted slowly. “There always seems to be another mission, another objective. But, I suppose...” his voice trailed off as he considered the question more seriously.
“An adventurer, maybe?” you suggested playfully, watching his reaction.
Tech looked at you, surprise registering on his face before it softened into contemplative curiosity. “An adventurer,” he repeated, rolling the idea around in his mind. His smile reappeared. “Exploring new planets, studying uncharted ecosystems without a firefight waiting around the corner—that does sound appealing.”
Your conversation drifted into a comfortable silence you both relaxed into. Eventually Tech announced it was time and you got to work heading back. You gave yourself plenty of credit for keeping your eyes above Tech’s waist as you gathered yourselves. Enough credit to indulge yourself in fully devouring the sight of him in his blacks as he led the way back to the grappling line.
Tech tugged his damp blacks into more comfortable angles before crouching in front of you, offering to carry you as he had on the way down. The first time you’d protested, this time you gladly climbed on board.
Securing your arms around his neck you chuckled, “And this really isn’t heavy for you?”
Tech scoffed, bouncing you into position as he stood. “You should not be surprised. After Wrecker, I am the strongest of my brothers.” Your brows raised at his use of ‘brothers’ as well as the fact of his strength. “Any concern is unwarranted, I am more than capable of carrying you.”
Your reply came in securing your still damp hold on him and that was enough for Tech to launch you both towards your veranda above.
Showcasing his tactical skills, Tech expertly got you up and over the railing without so much breaking a sweat.
"You were right," you exhaled, releasing a breath you hadn't realized you were holding as Tech helped you down from his back. Laughing lightly, you admitted, "You were right to carry me." Referring to your initial push to rappel on your own.
Tech straightened to roll out his shoulders. "I would get used to it if I were you," he remarked, a playful edge to his voice.
Dropping the bag from your shoulder, you squinted at Tech. “Get used to what?”
With a confident tilt of his head, Tech smiled. "The fact that I am typically correct." His tone, imbued with humor and self-assurance, sent another flutter through your stomach.
A familiar voice came from the open doors of your quarters. “I am glad to see you are taking your duties seriously.” Your sister’s voice spun you around. Her eyes were focused on the forest beyond, leaving it to guess whether she was addressing your or Tech.
Stepping out from among the drapes, she wore a floor-length light purple dress, cinched at the waist with a golden chain and her hair pulled back by an opal comb. The sight tightened something in your chest. Given that you were summoned to be her stand-in, her presence at home was unexpected. “I didn’t think you’d be here,” you admitted.
She glanced over Tech as she stepped towards you, with her attention lingering before she finally looked at you. “The hot springs?” She asked with a raised brow.
“We had the time,” you replied simply.
Humming thoughtfully, your sister pretended to smooth her dress, keeping her focus on you as she dismissed Tech. “You may leave us, trooper.” Her newfound, cool demeanor you’d first witnessed on Kamino was jarring to say the least.
Tech didn’t immediately leave, but looked at you first. His eyes darted between yours with something like concern and a silent question in his attention. Acutely aware of your sister’s scrutiny, you offered Tech a smile of assurance. He returned the gesture with a nod and promptly excused himself.
He was most likely still in earshot when your sister asked in a cool tone edged with criticism, “What are you doing, sister?”
“Waiting on Mother’s instructions.” You hadn’t expected to sound as snippy as you did.
By the way her eyebrows settled, neither did your sister. Maintaining eye contact, she waved a hand at the doorway behind her. “I meant with the clones.” She shook her head, frustration furrowing her brow. “This stunt of yours is going too far.”
“This stunt of mine?” You recoiled slightly, genuinely confused. “What do you think I’m doing?”
Your sister began pacing the veranda, rubbing her forehead and shaking her head in frustration.. “I thought you were getting some-” Her hand whipped around flippantly, “-Latent rebellious phase out of your system,” she scoffed, looking skyward before fixing her gaze back on you. “But now I’m beginning to think you…” Her voice trailed off as she stopped, pinning you with a stern look.
She approached with hands outstretched to capture your face. Her warm palms gently pressed on your face, a cherishing touch. “Negating your duties to this family is one thing. Fraternizing with lab experiments is another.”
Lab experiments.
The connection wasn’t instantaneous, after all, it was unthinkable that your sister, who had always been the epitome of compassion, could utter such a callous phrase. When her meaning sank in, you took a step, perhaps the first one ever, away from your sister. The morning sun caught on golden threads sewn through your sister's dress, giving her an off putting halo that chilled you.
Throughout your life, where your mother’s efforts were indifferent, your sister exemplified compassion for others. To hear her now, casually dehumanizing an entire race, was like seeing a stranger in her guise. Hearing your mother through your sister, wearing such a familiar face, gave you pause.
Something fractured inside you, and it sharpened your voice to a jagged edge. “How could you say something like that?”
Suddenly, her face softened into the warm grin you adored. With a sound of concession her hands waved around her head in submission before falling to her sides. “I’m just saying you were born for more than this.” Pulling you close again, she planted a kiss on your forehead, like you were a wayward child.
A vein of anger pulsed through you as you shoved her off. “And what exactly was I born for?” You challenged, barely restraining the bite behind your tone.
Your aggression didn’t dim her smile; she brushed off your rising ire with one calm word, “More.”
“Now,” she announced, clapping her hands together as if to dispel the tension. “I’m here to ensure everything is in order for the Gala.” Without checking to see if you followed, she began walking back inside, detailing the timeline for the next day. She never looked back, so accustomed was she to your lifelong habit of trailing behind her.
Anchored in place, you watched her disappear into your quarters. ‘Lab experiments’ kept turning over in your thoughts.
Beyond the sisterly love that always bound you, it was her opinions, thoughts, and motivations that you so sought to protect. She aimed to improve people’s lives and be the voice of your planet’s needs. Without her selfless, kind drive—or even the calculating leadership of your mother—you knew you could still support your people and protect your sister by becoming her shield.
But this new facet of her, the glimpses of a harsher woman unknown to you, troubled you. Supporting your sister and raising her voice above your mother’s was one thing. Supporting a voice that echoed your mother’s was another entirely.
Compared to participating in whatever pageantry your mother and sister had planned, scaling the ivy-covered wall beside you looked was the more appealing option.
Your sister called your name, finally prompting you forward. You could dwell on your family after the event.
The Gala was to be held in a hall open to the public, whereas the rehearsal took place in the privacy of a separate, more secure hall. Typically the venues were one in the same but with your standing in, necessary precautions were taken.
While you managed the rehearsal, Howzer briefed Clone Force 99 on the layout and security protocols of the structure.
Having finished surveying the building’s perimeter, Howzer led the squad up a switchback staircase carved into the mountain. “This is the last access point to the building and, coincidentally,” he noted as they reached the top stair, “a backdoor for tomorrow.”
The stairs led to a rocky outcrop that overlooked the hall where the event would be held. The hall was dimly lit, with staff attending to last-minute preparations.
“It’s an impressive structure,” Hunter remarked, walking to the edge of the outcrop. He knelt down, scanning the windows and balconies below through his binoculars.
Based on Tech’s research, neither the Governor nor the Senator had heat on them. The entire estate was designed to be impenetrable, and as far as Hunter was concerned, everything was in order and controlled. Hunter stood to face Howzer, rolling a shoulder towards the estate behind him. “This seems pretty straight forward, why the extra security?”
Howzer thought, nodding through a long inhale, “The Governor doesn’t do anything without necessity.” He paused, but could only shrug, “But I can’t say. She hasn’t indicated any specific threat.”
Having been on a similar line of thought as Hunter, Echo was the next to question with a question. “Why are clone troopers stationed here anyways?” Clone troopers went where there was unrest and instability; conditions that did not describe your planet. Yours had been stable, if not outright prosperous, in the war so far.
“This planet exports more raw energy than most planets in the Mid Rim combined.” Howzer explained. “From what I’ve been told, when the war started and sides were being chosen, the Republic wouldn’t risk losing this planet’s energy supply so they’ve done everything possible to placate the politicians here.”
He continued, “Plus, having Clone troopers escort the major energy shipments? It’s a smart move for keeping away Separatists and pirates.”
For most of the afternoon, Crosshair had kept his attitude subdued. Whether it was due to a lack of commentary or abundance of restraint was anyone’s guess. Eventually, his patience waned, and he couldn’t help but interject, his voice dripping with disdain.  “And where does being a glorified bodyguard come into play?” There was no curiosity in his question, only pure condescension.
Howzer shifted his weight, a muscle feathering over his jawline. Looking Crosshair over he mused, “Seeing as how we’re in the same boat for the next two days,” Scoffing, Howzer turned his attention back to venue below and continued, “Why don’t you let me know when you figure it out?”
That earned a laugh from Wrecker. Almost knocking Crosshair off balance, Wrecker knocked him with an elbow and chuckled, “He gotcha there, Cross.”
A snarl rippled over Crosshair’s lips, twisting into a mean smile. “So you enjoy playing lapdog for a few prissy politicians?”
“Prissy is one way to put it.” Tech added under his breath as he lifted his scanner in the air.
A smile softened Howzer’s features as he noticed a familiar figure stepping out onto a balcony. "Like I said - it has its perks," he said, his gaze fixed on the scene below. The two of you were discussing something with your sister holding a datapad between you while 9-E trailed you.
Crosshair followed Howzer's gaze, his annoyance cooling slightly as he spotted you on the balcony. The sniper clicked his tongue and stepped back from the ledge.
Tech, still fiddling with his scanner, noticed the change in Crosshair and found you. He watched you for a beat, glancing between Howzer and you, before tucking his device away. “It looks like they are nearing the end of their preparations. This would be a good opportunity to head back.” It was all the prompting his squad needed to start moving towards the stairs.
Howzer didn’t immediately move, his eyes dropping away before locking back on you. “Tell me something,” He said, voice dropping low. “How’d she take it?”
The question sent a pulse of silence through the men as they exchanged looks. Howzer  faced the group, tapping the scar that marred his left cheek. “I saw her face.”
“Running to her defense?” Crosshair's voice was sharp, tinged with scorn.
Echo passed Crosshair a disapproving shake of his head. Sounding impressed, Echo was the one to answer, “She handled herself like a soldier.”
That was the answer Howzer expected, but still his shoulders fell. Howzer's expression softened slightly, though a hint of sadness lingered. "Prissy doesn't even begin to cover her on a good day," he muttered, more to himself than to the others.
In the limited time the Captain was stationed on your planet, he’d caught on quickly enough to your family dynamics.
Initially, the Senator had seemed the most approachable. She was amiable, respectful, and appreciative of the clones' efforts, contrasting sharply with the Governor’s dismissive air. Whereas, you were distant, something Howzer took as alignment with the Governor’s sentiments. Rumors even made their way through the barracks that it was the Governor that kept you away, that she deemed clones unworthy of her daughter’s company. Howzer shut the insubordination down, but he’d be lying if he said he hadn’t thought the same thing.
It wasn’t until the first conference Howzer attended with your family that his perspective changed. The conference kept the Governor distracted and gave you the first real chance to approach him. Your humor surprised him, your unabashed admiration for the clones even moreso. After an evening with you, he found himself in your company at every opportunity. While your leash was tight, more so than you probably even realized, you definitely knew your way around your restrictions.
Once Howzer heard how the Governor spoke of you and your ‘lack of ambition’ Howzer understood he only saw a small part of the whole. After a time she grabbed your arm so hard you winced, he worried about what she did when there weren’t witnesses. In the end, Howzer decided it wasn’t his place to comment. Even as a Captain in the Grand Army of the Republic, he was only a clone trooper.
So, he kept things professional, maintaining a safe boundary with you. Yet, he indulged your questions about training and duties, even encouraged you to get training if that’s what you felt your path was. When you didn’t return from Kamino, that safe boundary quickly felt like a noose on your neck.
Your safe return felt like a second chance. Howzer wouldn’t be a silent bystander again.
“You know,” Howzer addressed the group but looked directly at Crosshair. “We were made to take hits. Clones are trained all our lives to take this well.” He walked past the men, bumping into Crosshair on his way, adding, “Makes you wonder, doesn't it? What taught her to handle it so well?”
This was the first time a reg left Crosshair silent and the first time he resented his ability to see so far off. He didn’t want to look at you.
That evening, you returned well after dark. Exhausted, your feet ached, your back was sore, and your mind thoroughly numbed from your sister’s constant instructions. You didn’t even bother with the lights as you made your way through your quarters.
Slumping down on to the edge of the bed, you began pulling at the tight shoes your sister chose for you. As you bent, a twitch ran through you that flared pain in your shoulder. It reminded you of all the reasons your shoulder was sore and why you were staring at a pair of ugly, golden slippers.
A burst of rage sent the slipper soaring into the wall ahead of you. Unsatisfied, you ripped the other off and chucked it toward the open veranda doors, where it landed just short of the outside.
Annoyed with yourself, you retrieved the shoe, and as you neared the door, you caught the drift of voices outside. With soft steps, you continued onto the veranda for a better listen.
Hunter’s stern voice made it through the wall first. “Crosshair, calm down.”
“No,” Crosshair snapped, his voice as furious as when you had headbutted him. “He knew who she was and didn’t say anything. He got us into this situation.”
Great, you inwardly groaned. They’re talking about me. Discomfort bloomed in your chest, sending prickling anxiety up your spine. They were fighting because of you.
Echo interjected, his tone just as firm. “The Prime Minister got us into this, not her. And you’re only making it worse with your attitude. Keep it to yourself. We have a mission to do and she certainly doesn’t need it,” he snapped, footsteps receding as he presumably walked back indoors.
As you strained to hear who was left, Tech’s reasoned voice floated over. “I hardly see how my knowledge of her identity caused any problems.”
“Oh, don’t act so innocent.” Crosshair fumed. “You knew, and because of your silence, I—We could’ve handled things differently.
Tech sighed, a mix of frustration and resignation in his voice. “I merely respected her decision to train without interference.”
“And look where that got her,” Crosshair retorted sharply, his voice dripping with bitter sarcasm.
At that you sucked in a small breath.
Tech started to push back when Hunter finally stepped in, “We’re done here. Tech, Wrecker, inside. Crosshair, stay out here and cool off.”
From the sounds of it, the others retreated inside and the solitary grumbling confirmed it for you. As softly as possible, you walked to the railing. You swallowed what you could of your anxiety and leaned over the balcony to peer around the ivy wall.
Sure enough, there Crosshair was, head in hands, leaning on the handrail. Catching him in this small moment of silence felt like seeing something you shouldn’t have. The moonlight illuminated him, bouncing off his hair enough to give him a glow. He was beautiful.
“What could you possibly want?” You jumped when Crosshair’s sharp tone cut through the silence. He dropped his hands and met you with an irritated look.
The first thing that came to mind spilled out, your nerves getting the better of you. “I want a lot of things.”
Crosshair shifted his weight onto one elbow, twisting in place to see you better. “What?” The tone in that one word sounded like a larger, more insulting question.
Swaying from the balls of your feet to your tiptoes and back, you considered tossing yourself from the balcony rather than saying another word. Staring out over the forest beyond you were slow to think of anything. Hesitantly, you started, “I want… this Gala to be over.” You turned a smile on Crosshair, hoping the humor would crack his scowl.
It didn’t.
“And I want to apologize.”
That caught his attention. His sour expression pinched with confusion. He straightened, resting his hand on the railing. “For what?” he asked skeptically.
Taking a sidestep in his direction, you took another jab as lightening the mood, crooning, “Don’t get your hopes up, it’s not for headbutting you.” His face didn’t change and the grip he had on the railing went white, spiking that prickling anxiety again. Crosshair said nothing, pushing away from the railing to leave.
“Crosshair, wait!” You scooted to where the veranda met the dividing wall.
“Save it.” He growled without looking back.
His walking away, dismissing you, not giving you the time of day - all of it broiled a rage deep seated within you. A rage that had been festering inside you since childhood. The very same flood of rage that sent your shoes flying earlier. One of which you still held in hand.
Chucking the slipper as hard as you could, it found its mark on the back of Crosshair’s head. At an abrupt halt, he stood frozen, then slowly faced you. Where the moonlight once brought out a beauty in the man, now darkened an already angry glower.
“What was that for?” His voice was dangerously low.
Refusing intimidation, you curled your fingers into the air in front of you. Through gritted frustration, you said, “Because I’m tired of you being an ass! You’re angry with me so just-” Your hands fumbled in front of you, making angry shapes as you worked out the last words, “Just say it!”
Crosshair said nothing, going silent as he took two long strides, gripped the railing with one hand, and vaulted himself around the wall with fluidity. You managed to get out of his way as he danding on your side without a sound. He didn’t move any closer, but even feet away he stood over you.
Not backing down, you were the one to close the distance, doubling down by saying, “Say it to my face.” He dodged the finger you thrust in his face.
The two of you stood like that, on the cusp of something angry, for almost a moment too long. As if neither of you had fully thought this through. Thought through what to say or how to say it. Especially seeing as your typical mode of conflict wasn’t on the table.
His jaw clenched a few times before he spoke and, much calmer than you expected, Crosshair said, “You should have told us who you were.”
Your frustration bled into desperation. “Crosshair, please, this isn’t a game to me. If I wanted to train, I had to-” On instinct you reached for his arm but he stepped out of reach before you made contact.
You both froze with your hand still hanging between you. Simultaneously, the two of you broke eye contact to look at your hand and when he didn’t swat your hand, you reached for him again. And again, he evaded you.
“Crosshair.” You said slowly. “What is going on?” His avoidance seemed like anger, but his sidestepping made you think again. “Why are you avoiding me?”
“I...” Crosshair’s voice trailed off as he fell back a step, something flickering in his eyes. He tried to look elsewhere, but you stepped into his line of sight. A little jolt ran up his neck, almost taken aback by your persistence. What little control he had over himself seemed to be slipping.
Careful of the boundary you toed, you held his gaze while extending a hand to him again. His eyes didn’t falter, but the breath he held told you he knew what you were doing. With the caution of handling a wild animal, you gently touched his forearm. The muscles in his jaw went tight at your touch.
In a voice reserved for your sister, gentle and patient, you pushed softly, “It’s more than not telling you, isn’t it?”
The moonlight softened Crosshair’s brown eyes to a pale hazel and revealed a flicker of whatever fight he had with himself. “If I had known who you were-”
“You wouldn’t have trained me?” You cut him off, too eager to know his inner workings.
His mouth opened just enough for him to say, “That’s not it.” For only a second, had you blinked you’d have missed it, his eyes scanned your face.
You didn’t need to ask to know it was marks on your face he sought.
“No.” A dawning realization tilted your head. You weren’t sure if you were flattered or offended. “You wouldn’t have used me like a punching bag.”
Like a child caught in trouble, those pale hazel eyes widened. This was, perhaps, a shared realization.
“Are you avoiding me because you’re ashamed?” Crosshair didn’t respond, his silence a confirmation as he looked away, unable to meet your gaze.
“I… I don’t want to hurt you,” he finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “Not more than I already have.”
His confession pushed your hand from his forearm to his hand, balled into a tight fist.
“Look at me,” You urged gently, wedging your fingers into his. “Crosshair.” For a long moment, he remained still, then slowly, he found your eyes again.
You shook your head with a weak smile, the weight of his guilt adding to your own. Squeezing his hand you made your own confession. “I am sorry-”
“Don’t-”
“No.” You said firmly, squeezing again. “I am sorry. I didn’t mean to drag you all into this. I just…” A crack in your voice made you pause. Coughing through it, you continued, “I just wanted to be more than I am.”
Red hot shame burned tears into the corners of your eyes. The hold you had on his fingers, sat loose in yours, suddenly felt like an imposition. For weeks he was forced to be in your company. Now you forced him away from his duties to be another unwilling participant.
You slipped your hand from his at the thought of doing anymore damage. Your retreat made it no farther as an armored arm slung around you.
Crosshair pulled you close, trapping you under his chin. The sound of crickets was dampened by his breathing and drowned out entirely when Crosshair spoke.
“Don’t apologize to me or anyone else for that matter.”
The moment was fleeting. Before you could fully register or react to his words, Crosshair let you go, stepping back to give you space, his expression perfect neutrality. The feel of his arm lingered around you and kept you speechless as he lightly swiped a thumb over your eye.
When all you managed were a few blinks, his lips pulled slightly to one side. “That’s not a good look for you.”
Warmth spread through your chest when he made a swipe over your other eye. You chuffed at the soft gesture, but gently pushed his hand away. While your touch still lingered, you playfully tugged his hand to the side, as if inviting him to dance.
Angling a smile up at him, you asked, “And… who can’t keep their hands off of who?”
Crosshair’s smile vanished as he rolled his eyes and groaned, pulling his hand back. “Don’t flatter yourself.”
You palmed away any remaining tears, chuckling as you stepped back. “Oh, get over yourself.”
There was a beat of silence before you both laughed. It was the first time you heard him laugh softly. The lingering warmth from your brief, shared laughter made the cool night air more bearable.
“As fun as this is,” Crosshair drawled, taking another step away. He flashed you one last disarming smile before turning on a heel to leave. “I think someone needs her beauty sleep.”
Your stomach fluttered as you watched him walk away. Seeing him so relaxed and even playful made his tease feel unexpectedly charming.
With a light laugh and a wave, you called out, “Go away, Crosshair.”
Alone on the veranda, you wrapped your arms around yourself, absorbing the night’s calm. The day had been the longest you’d had in a long time. And at the end of it all - you somehow felt good. Making amends with Crosshair made you feel hopeful that whatever tomorrow brought, you were ready for it.
Whether the men of Clone Force 99 knew it or not, they were changing your life forever.

Maybe you could blame Senator Amidala for this. You could blame the generous Senator and her even more generous friend, Senator Organa, for where you were. Well, where you were and where you were going to be in a half-an-hour.
You had objected at first, telling her that you were grateful for the kind offer, but Senator Amidala didn't seem to take no-thank-yous when it came to you.
"And come in gala-appropriate clothing. I will send you a dress, I just ask that you unwind from your duties for an evening. It's the least I can do after you've helped me for so long."
You tried to deny her offer, but when she slipped in the deal for a suit to be sent to you as well, perfectly fit for a certain tall Jedi, you let her offer break down the walls of your mind. You knew you shouldn't indulge in something like that, but it seems like you couldn't push her outstretched hand back. Especially when she cleared it with the council.
That's why you were here, in a dress that pressed snug to your skin, beautiful blue satin like the color of Anakin's lightsaber. And through his eyes, you were equally as hot as the blade. He had changed in the bedroom of your shared apartment, a crisp suit that reflected your dress.
Anakin knocked at the bathroom door respectively, waiting for your quiet "come in" before pushing the door open. You fixed the wide straps on your shoulders, moving them to where you thought they flattered your shoulders most before connecting eyes with your boyfriend. Though, it wasn't as much connecting as it was watching him internally outline your figure. Maybe it was the squeeze along your waist to the tops of your hips that made his gaze start to burn, or it was the way that the dress stopped accentuating your figure, flowing off the curve of your hips and pooling at the ground.
You watched his chest rise and fall, a stray hair slipping onto his forehead and tickling the scar over his eyebrow.
"Maker, how did I ever get so lucky," the jedi muttered, finally walking towards you with a plod to his steps, as if he was walking through swamp muck trying to get to you.
You smiled, cheeks heating with how his words nipped at your neck, the same as he wanted to so badly.
Anakin's hands fell to your waist, laying on a gentle touch that didn't seem like it came from him. Everything with Anakin was rough, he liked to admire through his fingertips, enjoying pulling and pushing. But in quiet moment, tender moment like these, he touched you with a softness that left you swooning for weeks.
You watched him through the reflection of your bodies, and he soon looked up to meet your stare. You smiled bashfully, his blue eyes melting you as he let his hands roam to your stomach, pulling you softly into him in Anakin fashion.
"I don't think I want to leave," Anakin spoke, moving your hair to kiss the skin behind your ear softly, "I think we should just stay here."
You teased, "Now why should we do that, Ani? You know, Senator Amidala has gone a long way convincing me to attend, it would be rude to bail so suddenly."
Anakin's forehead pressed to the side of your temple, lips close enough to your ears to head the tiniest of breaths from him.
"You look too good to leave. Just wanna bend you over and fuck the daylights out of you," he whispered, words sinking to the pit of your stomach and heating your core.
He bucked his hips into your ass, revealing the way his pants tented. You let out a choked whine, one of your hands grasping his wrist in an attempt to ground yourself. He had you wrapped around him finger and he knew it. But this wasn't an event that was easy to skip. Senator Amidala was looking forward to you being there. You and Anakin both.
"We can't Ani, I told her we would be there."
He sighed, thumb rubbing over the center of your stomach as if he was silently trying to coax you into changing your mind, being all soft with you.
You reached a hand up and raked fingers through his hair. He lifted his head from yours and glanced over the way he hovered above you, eyes shooting to his hands that touched you in such an intimate way, the way your lips were slightly parted as you focused your attention on him.
He was drowning in it.
"Alright, let's get out of here."
Anakin was being a gentleman tonight, opening the speeder door for you, resting his hand on your thigh as he drove. And he was patient this time, not reckless. Though his pinky was the opposite. It snuck into the slit on the left side of your dress.
He rested the tip of it as far up your inner thigh as he could, squeezing any moment that he thought was appropriate, sneaking looks at your face to catch the knitting of your eyebrows as you tried to ignore what he was doing to you.
The event already seemed too long and you hadn't even arrived. You thought this was gonna be easier with Anakin here, giving you someone you could genuinely talk to and trust with information. But it looked like Anakin was the worst person you could have every brought. You never realized how one dress could make him insatiable.
You adjusted your collar as you reached the large building, the inside of it decorated for the gala. You didn't know what the event was for, charity or just a general celebration of some sort, but Anakin walked in his usual arrogant way - strong steps, straight posture, broad shoulders. Maybe the image of him in a luxury attire made you a little hot as well, you were never used to seeing your boyfriend so put-together.
You stopped at small tables, checking out the forms that they held and listened to the kind person running them. It seemed to be a charity event, making you feel a little more comfortable with your surroundings.
There was soft music playing through speakers mounted on the ceilings and everyone wore smiles - some fake, but a lot being real, like they were happier than ever just to get word of their organization out into Coruscant.
Anakin must've relaxed, mirroring your mood as his back slouched the slightest bit and his steps became softer. His hand brushed your arm, knuckles trailing at the fabric that covered your hot skin. He wanted this to be a night where he could touch you freely, rest his hand on your lower back, kiss your hairline when he thought you looked too gorgeous not to touch.
But Anakin had his ways, ways to make you squirm, and ways to make you smile.
He snuck you around corners into empty halls of the building, pressing you tightly against him in a sloppy kiss, letting you feel the swell of him against his pants. And when the gala just started to get fogged over by his lips, you pushed at his chest in an attempt to keep you grounded. To keep you from getting caught with Anakin's crotch jutting against your hip.
"Ani, we can't," you whispered against his lips, the same ones that never seemed to get enough of your own, constantly hungry for the taste and the texture.
He huffed, nose pressing to your cheek as he rested against your face, "Yes we can, they won't even notice. C'mon angel.."
You pulled your face from his, making him only chase you. Pressing your hand to the base of your neck, your fingers pushes against the adam's apple in his throat till he finally pulled back enough to look at you.
For the first time in what felt like hours his hips weren't flush to yours and you could finally get a look at him, lips kissed a deep red and his hair tangled at the sides. His blazer was falling off one shoulder and eyes had a salacious look in them. Anakin had many times looked at you like this and begged with his body more than his words like this, but it just felt different now. He'd never tried this in public, certainly not with the clones around the corner or another Jedi within a good distance of you. Tonight felt risky, like he was throwing himself at the danger of being caught. You couldn't imagine what this would've been like if it were an important mission. Anakin had a brain to use, but right now, it was practically mush.
"We'll just get through this gala, alright. We can go talk to Senator Amidala and try to leave earlier than we planned to. We can't ditch this now though, she wants us here Ani."
Telling the tall Jedi no was like kicking a puppy, you adored him to the point where you almost broke at the look of him. His bottom lip pushed up at his top one, pouting at you, trying to change your mind. It hurt you to stand your ground to the man you loved. But it would hurt you more to break the Senator's promise.
Anakin leaned forward, trying to capture your lips again, but you held his shoulders.
"One more," he insisted, eyebrows shifting to a pouty expression. That, you couldn't say no to.
You let him kiss you, his lips moving eagerly with your own. But you stopped, breaking it before it got any more out of hand. You smiled with a softness, adjusting his appearance carefully, doing nothing about the way his red lips shined except pecking them to pull a smile to his face. There was absolutely no way you would be able to hide the way he looked at you and the swoon he held in his eyes, but you had hope nobody would catch it.
You expected the gala to be a lot more crowded than it was. Sure, there were people galore, but it was manageable for you and Anakin. Not many senators noticed you, out of your Jedi attire and prettied up for the event. You would never be able to disguise yourself enough to slip past Senator Amidala though - she could, and did, pick you out of a crowd.
"Jedi Knight L/n, it's great to see you," Amidala said, giving you a real smile before acknowledging Anakin with a "And Anakin."
You bowed your head, shaking her free hand that didn't hold a wine glass, "It's wonderful to see you finally, we're so glad we came."
By we, you meant you were. You were sure to assume Anakin wished to be... other places.
"I'm glad. There was actually something I have been meaning to speak to you both about," she started, swirling the small amount of liquid left in her wine glass around. Her eyes shifted down to it for a moment before coming back to yours, "I spoke to Master Yoda about it briefly, but I requested to speak to you both before I went through with it."
You nodded along, racking your brain for memories of missions that were to come for you. You surely were assigned to another, having been home in Coruscant for a week so far. When you let yourself take in the Senator, she looked almost nervous in a way, pinky finger tapping against the stem of the glass.
"Senator, excuse me for cutting you off, but would you like a refill? You look a bit shaken," you asked, giving her a look of understanding.
She nodded, "Please, this topic makes my stomach uneasy."
You smiled politely before taking her glass and weaving through he crowd with ease. You briefly wondered what would make someone like her nervous. But it made you nervous knowing the answer. It was no doubt that people wanted her blood spilled, and it seemed any time that her presence as a brave figure wavered was when there was a threat concerning her day to day life. One that told her that her actions were not the only things that people wanted stop. Her breathing was something that was desired to be halted as well.
You felt your shoulder catch on the shoulder of someone else in the vast crowd, making you stumble shortly. An arm reached out to your inner-elbow, catching you and keeping you on your feet.
Lifting your head to look at the kind soul to catch you, you connected eyes with a Kiffarian man, barely shorter than Anakin and decorated with gold tattoos. He wore a suit, short, curly hair sitting on top of his head and piercing grey eyes. He looked to be someone of importance, and you could tell why he would be. As his lips curled into a smile, you knew his exact job in politics. A gorgeous poster-boy.
"My apologies, I should have been paying attention to where I was walking," he said, only adding onto your assumption through his buttery accent.
You smiled, laughing softly, "It's alright, I was paying attention as much as you were."
He tilted his head down, hiding his teeth between a close-lipped smile. His hand stayed on you, letting off a bit of pressure through the apology, "I don't think we've ever met, can I have your name?"
"Y/n, what's yours?"
He huffed, "Yea'vett. You're not in a rush somewhere, are you?"
"I actually am," you referred to the empty wine glass you held in your grasp, shrugging off his hand. He let his arm fall to his side, the other coming up to adjust the collar of his suit.
His eyebrows almost seemed to downturn at your answer, his shoulders seeming to tense in a way that they weren't before, "Well, that's just disappointing, isn't it?"
You let your teeth peek out of your smile before he politely directed you to where the drink table was, holding his hand lightly on the fabric between your shoulder blades. After explaining that the glass was not your own and that you had to return to an important discussion, he left you to filling it up.
You quietly went about your careful business, almost groaning when a presence resumed itself back inside of your personal bubble. Turning your head, you were wholly expecting the gorgeous poster-boy to be watching you with the same stormy eyes he had been previously. But now, you were looking up into a different kind of storm.
The storm that you brought with you.
"Who was that?" Anakin asked, his voice stiff with agitation. His jaw was clenched when it closed, and his brow was creased. You swore in these moments his scar opened again, every time it was angry, it seemed to glare at you with the same red that Anakin's temper flared with. His whole stature was off, hands clenched into fists like it was a reflex to the situation. Somewhere in you had to admit that a piece of your heart went out to him when he was angry like this. More than of a piece of your body too.
You rolled your eyes at his tone, pressing a hand to his palm to try and soak some of the anger out of him, but with his eyes glued to yours, it seemed that your soft gesture did nothing to ease up his attitude.
"We bumped into each other and he ended up apologizing to me, that's all," you explained, letting your thumb rub over the cloth of his tie, pulling it through your finger till it reached the end and slipping from underneath your touch.
Anakin leaned closer into you as your knuckles rested against the center of his abdomen. "He was awfully close for an apology," Anakin spit out under his breath, lips pursed after his words were left free. His hand nearest to the table reached up to hold your waist, his thumb pressing into your skin hard as he pulled you closer to his body.
"He was just trying to be nice Anakin, leave it. We can discuss this after the gala," you dismissed the conversation, making Anakin's nose twice in response. You knew he didn't want to leave it, maker, Anakin didn't want to even be here. He was ready to go home and take you apart the way he'd been waiting to do since you left.
This only added fuel to the fire.
You could have been smarter, knowing Anakin's now shortened temper, but he knew you were right. You sometimes wondered how Obi-Wan wasn't scolded for the temper of his former padawan - a Jedi wasn't meant to feel such strong, negative emotions. Maybe you didn't have all the room to talk though, not when he had a strong hold on your heart.
You didn't wait for a response from Anakin, turning to continue back through the crowd. He followed you without word, but you could still feel the tension that didn't drift through the air, but instead connected the two of you like handcuffs.
The conversation with Senator Amidala couldn't have taken longer. She expressed her worries, and the worries of her people as well. Her life was being threatened by an anonymous source and it was endangering those around her at the same time. She was sick of putting her girls' lives in danger for her to simply travel through Coruscant. Maybe a Jedi presence would change things, temporarily stunt the threat and keep her safe. She mentioned the time Anakin and Obi-Wan had helped her through the previous threats - she felt safe in the hands of the now Jedi-Knight that stood beside you, uncharacteristically silent.
You gave her few words back, choosing them carefully and finalizing the conversation with exchanged smiles and an agreement that you and Anakin would keep her safe, though the council would have to approve of her request to have the two of you as her protectors. Times were tough, and availability was tight, you wished more than anything to have the Senator comfortable and safe under the eyes of you.
And Anakin wished nothing more than to get you out of your dress.
The whole conversation you could feel it, the burning gaze of his eyes and maker did you hope that the way he was staring at you was missed by the older woman. For the sake of you and the relationship you had grown with Ani, even if the Senator knew well before now.
And by the time it was finally over, Anakin pulled out a card I'd never seen him pull before. A petty lie, at that.
Anakin's right hand drifted to his back pocket, feeling for something and pretending it had all of his attention. And when he finally lifted his head from where it had tilted down, his hair brushed the sides of his cheeks and he cleared his throat, alerting the senator.
"I'm sorry about the short notice, but the council is ringing me. Can I excuse Y/n and myself?" he asked, giving Padme his best act you've ever seen, confident eyes staring straight into hers.
She nodded, holding up her glass and wishing the both of you well before Anakin took your hand and led you out into the hallway.
You weren't stupid; Anakin knew you weren't and knew that you had caught onto his lie. But, you wanted to play with it as he snuck you around a corner and up some stairs.
"Didn't the council excuse us for tonight?" you asked, reflecting his act.
He didn't answer your question immediately, instead waiting to see if there was anyone nearby. When he confirmed that you two were alone in the hallway, he dragged you into him hastily. His lips landed on yours, making you gasp out of shock. He had a hard grip on your arm as he kissed you, lips consuming your own.
The kiss wasn't long, it was just enough for him to get you back in that needy state he had you in earlier with your lips parted and your head faintly dizzy. Except this time, you had completed what you had came here for. Anakin pulled away, looking at you with eyes that bore their way under your skin and stayed there.
"I excused us for tonight," he said through teeth that were pushed together, "What was you friend's name again?"
You thought for a moment, evaluating your choice of words. You could be easy, give him what he wants, feed into his desire. Or you could challenge him. And you thought that Anakin deserved a challenge, even if it was a simple one that could be ignored by the naked eye.
"His name is Yea'vett. He was just trying to be nice," you argued.
Anakin smiled at you, teeth pale and incisors sharp, "You know I don't like people touching what's mine."
"Would you have rather had me fall?"
"I would have rather have not been here in the first place. I would rather have you split open on my cock right now than be here," his hand placed itself on the back of your neck, fingers wrapping around and heavily pressing to the sides of your throat, "I'm gonna fuck you so hard you'll forget his name."
Your breath went shallow at his words, losing strength in your legs as they felt like they were gonna wobble out from under you like an unsteady stool. His touch was poisonous, sending venom through your veins and making you feel weak.
Anakin smiled wider, soaking in the way that your eyes had softened and your gaze had turned into a desperate one. You eyelids were drifting down and your pupils were full, he knew that look anywhere, it was the same look you gave him when he was stuffed to the hilt in you.
"You wanna go home angel?" he asked, forehead pressed against yours.
You nodded, waiting for his move as he guided you back down the stairs and to the entrance that you had came in through. You didn't care about the way you trailed behind Anakin like a lost puppy dog, so close you almost stepped on his heels multiple times. Anticipation was heavier than the weight of certain stares right now, you'd take any questions tomorrow.
The street lighting that greeted you when you stepped back out into coruscant made your heart thrum. Your apartment was close, only a few minutes a way. A few long minutes that you knew Anakin was about to hate, with an impatient grip on the wheel. Leaving behind his gentleman way, he left you to your own devices of opening your door, which you did without thinking twice of it.
It would've been awkward if you hadn't loved each other long, the way you stared out the open roof to all the buildings and nightmarish traffic lanes. Anakin knew your distraction and found it amusing at times, knowing that underneath the face you held was someone who would be taking him like a whore in mere minutes.
Like you were trained for this exact procedure, you hopped out of the speeder the moment it parked itself. Anakin hadn't even pulled his hands off the wheel before you were running to the apartment entrance and sending him a glance over your shoulder to make sure he was still following.
Anakin smiled, running to catch up to you and trailed as you stepped through the glass doors, flashed the droid at the front desk a smile and hopped into the vacant elevator.
Pressing your floor number, it didn't take long for the doors to shut and Anakin's hunger to grow. He pulled you into him to press your hips to his. You could feel his hard crotch bear down on your pelvis, alerting you to how hard Anakin really was. Maybe you should've been grateful for the low time that Anakin allowed you two at the gala - you were lucky you were even there for over half an hour.
"Maker, I get so hard when I'm around you," Anakin groaned with his head crowding itself in the crook of your neck. His lips found their way to your skin, pressing open-mouthed kisses against it, leading pleasure through your body.
You held his waist, "I hope you understand that's not always a good thing."
Anakin ran the sharp of his teeth along the side of your neck before ending with a sloppy kiss at the base, sucking a red mark onto your skin. Your hips squirmed, making him only respond with a harsher suck.
Anakin pulled his head back the slightest to make eye contact with you, "You're telling me you don't love it when I take you home from these stupid public events and poun-"
The door opened and you practically jumped out of Anakin's arms. You needed to get home, speeding off down the hall as fast as you could in your cramped heels. Hallways were mostly vacant at these hours, those that weren't home wouldn't be home till late in the night and others were home and settling into bed - it made you feel somewhat bad for the running Anakin was doing with his unusually stomping feet.
You punched in the code for your apartment, entering before the door had fully opened. Anakin stepped in behind you and closed the door before snatching you by your waist. He held you with one arm, your back to his chest and the pounding of your heart bouncing off the walls. You giggled, hand holding onto him as he carried you off to your shared bedroom.
Anakin dropped you down on the soft sheets of your bed, your body falling onto your stomach with a bounce. A smile was spread over your lips at the moment, but when you turned to see Anakin, he looked anything but smiley. Maybe through his eyes, you could see the sparkle that told you he was helplessly in love with you, but his eyebrows were tensed ever so slightly and his mouth curved down, the cleft of his chin more visible.
Staring over you, eyes dragging over the inches of your dress with precision all the way to the heels on your feet. Anakin kneeled down at the edge of the bed, only one knee to the plush mattress, and he removed your heels with a gentle pull. It came off and he placed it on the floor, grabbing your legs and lifting it to press a kiss to your ankle.
You held your breath, the moment seemed so out of place for his behavior, almost as if it was made to distract you from why he dragged you out of the gala so promptly. You watched him kiss his way up your leg, stopping where the end of your skirt had folded up when you were dropped. Leaning away, he released your leg to only grab your other and address it the same way he had the first. Only this time, he didn't stop at the hem of your skirt.
Anakin moved up your body, lips ceasing their kisses but his eyes never stopped burning through the fabric of your dress. Like blaster bolts, you could feel them pierce into your skin with deadly precision. You never doubted that he had the mapping of your body memorized, not when looked at you like that while you were clothed.
His hands found their way to your back, spanning over the muscles and pressing you into the bed as he leaned his head down to your ear, "I want you all to myself."
"You have me all to yourself," you whispered back to him, leaning your head to the side, cheek pressing to the mattress.
Clever fingers found their way to the zipper of your dress and pulled it down. You could almost feel some weight drift off your shoulders as the cold air hit the skin along your spine, "I mean I don't want anyone else looking at you the way I'm allowed to. You're mine, and I want everyone to know that. You are mine."
The next moments were a head-dizzying contrast to when he was removing your heels. His hands pushed their way under the fabric of your dress and removed it, pulling it off of you in a hurry and allowing it to hang chaotically off the side of the bed in a mess of blue. Your bra was unclasped closely after without second thought and was tugged from your body, returning to it's place with your dress.
Anakin flipped your body over and watched the fat of your breasts bounce at the movement. He took a step back, standing at the foot of the bed before his hands reached to your hips and latched on. Tugging you to the edge, he pressed your clothed core against the crotch of his pants. A whine left your mouth at the sight in front of you. All of Anakin's clothes were still on, his blazer haphazardly thrown on the ground, which must've came off in a flurry of your undressing. He looked disheveled, lips red and raw, his button down crooked on his torso with half a side pulled out from where it was tucked into his pants. You'd never seen his hair so messy and you never thought a mess could be so beautiful.
"You feel that, angel?" Anakin ground his hard-on against your body, "You feel how fucking hard I am for you?"
You nodded, biting down on your lip in an effort to ground yourself to the world around you, something that the turbulent lighting of Coruscant couldn't accomplish. Anakin's grip on your hips tightened and he tugged your body against his, prominent hard-on pushing against his tight pants and pressing into you.
"Use your words, I wanna hear you say it."
You breathed shallowly, "I feel how hard you are. Ani..."
Anakin moved and hand up to caress your face with a sweet rub of his thumb, "What baby, what do you need?"
You grinded your hips against the swell of his cock through his pants, but Anakin was quick to put you in your place as he tightened his grip on your hips, pressing his own down, sandwiching you between him and the bed. His head hung above yours, his mess of hair tickling your forehead in a silly manner.
It all felt unfair, the way he tried to contain your reach for your own pleasure, and you wished you could hate him for it. But in this moment, you depended on him to soften up and deliver you the pleasure your body begged for.
"I need you, Ani. I wanna feel good, only you can make me feel good."
Anakin bumped his forehead gently against yours, "You know that's not what I'm looking for, angel."
You could feeling his breath lingering with your own, creating the same feeling throughout your body that you felt when you would make out with him. The thought alone had you on a high and made you lunge up, attempting to connect your lips with his. But, as quick as the thought crossed you mind, it was shut down by Anakin's hand leaving your waist and wrapping around the base of your throat, pushing you lightly back to the bed. You whined, knowing that you were running out of ways to escape his hold.
The whine from you made Anakin laugh, "Eager girl."
The comment made your cheeks flush and made you more aware of the hand that pressed to your neck like a shackle. You let out a shaky breath, "Please fuck me, I need you to touch me, kiss me, fuck me, anything, please!"
The way you begged made Anakin's cock twitch in his pants, pulling a groan from his lips and setting it free into the air. He took his hand away from your throat, moving it to his waistband and unbuttoned his pants with one, skillful hand. Excitement spiked through you, sending you to pull yourself up to reach your hand under the fabric of his button-down that was tucked into his pants. Your fingers wrapped around the waistband of his boxers, pulling them down along with his pants till they rested on the crest of his thighs.
Anakin let you, watching closely while biting his lip at your once-over of his dick. You took ahold of it, pumping it and watching a bead of precum drool from the head. Straining your body forward, you gathered spit between your lips before letting it travel through the tight purse of them and fall to the blushing tip of his cock, sliding down and into your curled hand as you continued to jerk him off.
"Fuck, baby," Anakin moaned with a hand coming to hold your wrist, "I wanna give you what you were begging for."
Though disappointment flashed over your face in the form of a pout, you flopped your body back on the bed in content. You watched as your fully-clothed lover took himself into his own hands, letting out a quiet sigh from his chest and guiding himself to push aside the fabric of your panties.
"Are you gonna keep all your clothes on, big boy?" You teased with a smile. The head of his cock ran through the soaking slit of your pussy, collecting it's lubrication.
He looked up from where he was gazing at your sex, connecting your eyes with his. The look he gave you was almost a warning, telling you that you should really keep your mouth shut, little quips not being one of the things he wanted to hear out of you. "I need to have you, I'm not wasting time."
You spoke before you could bite your tongue, "You were fine with wasting your time earlier."
You allowed a smirk to creep onto your face, but it was soon swept off in the tidal wave of euphoria. The blunt head of Anakin's length pushed itself into you, creating a stretch like no other, one that sent your jaw dropping and your eyebrows creeping together. You and Anakin surely didn't abstain, but he always gave you the same stretch every time he slipped into you. It left your core tightening and your body feeling heavy.
The way Anakin held you, his other hand returning to it's rightful place on your hip, sent your head careening backward into the soft bed. The pressure of his fingers made you feel small in a way, man-handling you like he would picking up a doll. You tried to see the way he pushed into you, but you settled for looking up at his smug expression that told you he was splitting you in half. Whatever power he held over you, it melted your brain in the most humiliating way - Anakin seemed to adore it.
"Yeah? You like that cock, huh brat? Shuts you right up, doesn't it?" he said, spitting acid into your veins, melting your muscles and refusing them to be in your own control.
You tasted blood as your teeth finally pricked your lip - Anakin slid into you, slow and delicious, just like the breaths that he took which fanned on your face sweetly. His hair hung like messy vines above you and his eyes were barely visible; blue peaking through the waves. But his smile, the one he barely could keep as you sucked him in, shone like a star over the ocean at night. The grip his fingers had on your body contoured his hand and sent shivers up your spine and into your neck where the after-shock made you choke out a silky moan.
Anakin leaned forward, pressing his nose into yours as he consumed the breaths you took, "You look so beautiful when my dick's in you. Almost like you belong like this, right here soaking me." A deep laugh accompanied his words, kissing your lips deeply.
Welcoming his mouth against yours, you made out with a deep passion that you've never felt from anyone but Anakin. And you thought for a moment, that maybe that's why you were wholly his and he yours, the way you two connected like lost puzzle pieces was like none other.
You gasped into his mouth, walls stuttering around him. The way you tightened dragged a moan from him. You could feel every vein of his cock press into you as he let you take him slowly. He knew you could though, he's bent you in half like a folding chair before and made you take him. But like this, when things were so slow you felt the world had gone cold, you could feel the pop of the head into you, could feel the curve of his dick. If you concentrated hard enough, you could swear you felt yourself gushing around him.
You let your hands reach up to hold his face sweetly, thumbs settling on his cheekbones as your lips wrapped around his bottom one before restarting their tasting of his mouth. You felt heat rush to your core when Anakin bottomed inside of you, hitting something deep. He pulled away from the sloppy kiss, planting a peck to yours before recoiled his hips, pushing back against yours torturously.
A whine left you, sounding oddly familiar to his name. You played this same game time and time again where, in his possessive attitudes, he'd try to coax his name out of your lips. And you knew he was pushing for it harder tonight.
Anakin set a steady pace, his hips beating against yours with slow, deep thrusts that sent your eyes rolling back and your body shivering. Your hands moved to the back of his neck, holding his head close to yours and grounding you from the way his cock fucked into your spongy cunt, looking for the spot that made you tear up.
His one thumb teased over your hip bone, the only gentle thing about the way you were positioned. The lewd noises of slapping skin and your soaking cunt bounced off the walls, making your ears hot. Your body reacted to him like a faucet that you couldn't turn off. But fuck, you wouldn't anyways, not when he was shoving himself balls deep inside of you, trying like hell to hit something deep.
"He could never know your body like I do, nobody could," Anakin growled, "That's cause you're mine. Nobody could know the way that you love being fucked like a whore, nobody could know the way you shut up as soon as you get my fat cock in you. You take it so good, don't you angel? You take it so fucking good."
You moaned at his words, loud and unrestrained from where you were before. You settled on training your eyes on his as he pummeled you with his strong hips, sturdy thighs smacking against your ass. You would most definitely be sore in the morning, and you could count on bruises blooming at your hip-bones.
"So good Ani... only you, fuck- only you!"
Anakin planted another sweet kiss to your lips, smiling, "That's right, only me. I get to fuck you, and pump you full, and hold you every night because you're mine. Nobody deserves you, maker- I don't deserve you. But I'd be damned if I didn't fuck you like I do."
Anakin's hips sped, the thrusts barely changing the way they shook your body and melted your brain. You couldn't ignore the way your stomach tightened and the fuzziness in your head distorted the way moans flew off your tongue.
"Anakin... fuck- Ani, I'm close," you whined, nose pushing against his.
Anakin pulled away from your face momentarily, a hand falling lower to guide his thumb to your clit. Your body tensed, waves off pleasure shooting through you. A little more.
Anakin gave up any softness, hips fucking you into the mattress, pushing calls of his name out of your mouth, "Yeah? Come on baby, cum for me, wanna feel you cum on my cock."
You felt him strike a spot inside of you that moved you to grip his hair, tugging his head back. Your fingers pulling at the strands only parting his lips and spurring on his rough movements. His pelvis occasionally pushing his thumb hard into your clit, sending sparks through you that electrified your nerves.
"Maker... Ani, holy fuck- Ani-" your words almost felt pushed out of your chest. It was as if he was trying to hammer a nail into the wall, and he was denting the wall. Your knees locked around his waist and your legs wrapped around him, heels digging into his back as the band inside of you snapped. A hot white flashed across your body, making your limbs lock and stutter, eyes closed and mouth open.
"Your pussy gets so wet when you cum- fucking squeezing me," he grunted, his pace turning sloppy and losing it's previous rhythm.
Anakin threw his head into your neck, resting his face into the crook as he let out a strangled moan, hips bucking to bottom out inside of you. Hot ropes of cum coated your walls, spreading a familiar warmth through your body. Your lover's cool panting contrasted the warmth, sending a shiver up your spine.
He came down, falling limp against you. A smile formed on his face, one that pressed into the skin of your neck. Relaxing muscles made him lay on you with his hands releasing their pressure and his legs shifting slighting. You wrapped your arms around his torso to hold him to you, a smile flashing across your face as well.
You squeezed around him, making him moan and curse into your shoulder, "Don't."
You giggled, only earning a huff from him. Your hands traveled to his dress shirt, moving the fabric up and trying to get it off. Anakin moved without a word, lifting his arms and letting you remove it from his sweaty body. It would have to be washed, but you didn't really mind.
"Here, let me-" Anakin pulled himself out of your slowly, pulling a softer noise from your throat. A warmth crackled through his body, watching his spend drip out of you like syrup. Your cheeks flushed finally, feeling shy even though you had imprinted kisses on your shoulder to prove you weren't as innocent as you felt in that moment.
Clothes were tossed in the same pile as your dress, creating a messy pile of elegant clothes, ones that belonged in displays, not on hard-wood floors. With you scooting up the bed, Anakin had disappeared into the bathroom and coming back with a damp cloth.
Climbing over you, he placed a heavy hand on your pelvis and cleaned you gently, though overstimulated sighs didn't fail to leave your lips. He bothered to set that in the laundry bin next to your closet, finding himself back to the bed quickly.
Anakin laid down beside you, bouncing as he let his back fall. His arms scooped you up and held you against him. A hand came to hold your back while the one not tucked under you was tracing circles into his hard chest.
"You know that I love you, right? I don't want anyone else," you finally spoke, looking up at his face through the dim lighting of the room none of you bothered to do anything about.
A wide grin spread on his face, "I know, I just like teasing you."

Jedi John b breaking his code to fuck you, the princess of a distant planet he was assigned to protect
•⑅♡⑅•⑅♡⑅•⑅♡⑅•⑅♡⑅•
john b had his serious face on today.
his eyes had clouded over almost, brows in a permanent frown and it was like you could see every thought racing through his head though you didn’t know what they were. you’d stayed quiet on the journey, hands in your lap as the stars flash past you through the windows. whatever john b was planning, it must’ve been important.
you’re not expecting to land in the most beautiful planet you’d ever seen. as a princess, you’d had the privilege of getting to see the galaxy. some beautiful, some struck by war and impoverished — but you’d never seen this place before.
when you’d asked “wow, where are we john b?”
he’d simply responded with “uh, very far from home.” before whistling to his droid to get it to follow the two of you down the ramp.
you’d walked for a while, and you didn’t question anything merely because you were too amazed by the beauty of your surroundings. forestscape surrounds you, vibrant purple flowers entwining the thick branches and the sun beginning to set leaving a pink hue over everything light touched. he cranes round to check on you as he leads you through the scenery, eyes lingering on you when he sees you smiling, a bird like creature you’d never seen before fluttering past, your eyes following in amusement. maker, you were beautiful.
you eventually come to a building, seemingly abandoned at the edge of the forest overlooking the great waterfalls and he holds his hand out. this strikes you as odd because john b never offers to hold your hand, attempting to be professional, you usually simply grab it anyway.
soon, you’re standing in the bright orange sunset infront of the open balcony doors, sheet curtains blowing in the gentle humid breeze.
“why are we here, john b?” your voice is soft like fine silk a hand gently touching his back as he faces away from you.
“so… the other night you begged me for something.” he begins sincerely, staring into your eyes in the intense way he always did once he turns to face you. you’re immediately swarmed by the memory of you begging him to touch you and physically cringe.
“john b, i’m terribly sorry. i had simply had too much wine at the senate gala and i was absolutely beside myself. i shouldn’t have—”
“no just… listen, okay?” he raises his eyebrows, forehead crinkling at the stress on his face and you sink, nodding as you hear him out. he wipes a hand along his jaw in thought before speaking once more. “people seem to think i’m this… perfect jedi, as if that even exists.” he rants, shaking his head, voice low and timbery. “truth is it’s never been hard for me to act like one. i believe in all the rules so, why would i disobey them right?”
he steps closer to you, tilting his head as your eyes drift off in thought to catch your gaze, his own eyes wide and puppy like.
“you make that hard for me because i… just wanna have you all to myself.”
your breath hitches in your throat. he looked insanely gorgeous in that moment, orange glow of the sunset casting shadows across him and warming the highest points of his face, his brown wavy hair lit up and highlighted by the unrelenting sun.
“you do?” you whisper but it’s barely audible. he presses his lips together, brows raised as he nods slowly, taking another step until you were practically chest to chest.
“yep, yes. i do.” his deep voice rumbles infront of you. your brows furrow sympathetically, doe eyes making it hard for him to resist you.
“i’m sorry john b. i never wanted to make it difficult to remain faithful to the jedi council.” you shake your head in worry and he stills you with a soft hand on your cheek, ducking his head.
“hey. don’t be sorry. you… make me feel like a person.” his voice lowers, and you can’t help but selfishly glance at his mouth — in which he does the same.
“s’that why you brought me here john b? to feel like a person?” you breathe, practically sharing oxygen.
“i brought you here…” he begins to walk you slowly backwards towards the large bed. “to make you feel as good as you make me feel. without the concern of anyone else catching us.” he promises and your legs hit the back of the bed, sitting you down with a bounce. you feel the heat rush over your body, the same arousal you felt the night you begged him to touch you — already feeling the slick coating your opening, body desperate to take him. “if, you know… that’s alright with you ma’am.” his lips twitch a little and you bite your smile back, nodding violently.
one thing about the jedi, they had phenomenal stamina. it feels like you’re in and out of consciousness at some points, so lost in a haze of pleasure that you’d forgotten where you were and what was happening. nothing else in the galaxy mattered but john b’s head between your legs, his thick arms, toned from the extensive training a jedi goes through wrapped around your thighs to hold you open, naked body glowing with perspiration as you writhe on the bed.
“m’mph— john—john b, my goodness i’m—” you cry, like actually cry — because it had been such a long time coming. he lifts his head with a sweet smile, chin glossed with your slick and he pushes himself up to hover over you, lips ghosting over yours. you can smell yourself, taste yourself on him, it was all too much.
“you’re crying sweet girl?” he hums in awe, nudging your legs open with his own to slot himself over you.
“please let me feel you. please!” you beg once more, this time with no shame and he pecks your cheek.
“oh you will. it’s a good thing being a jedi taught me patience, right? because… i’m not done making you cum on my tongue.” he drops his voice for the last part, tilting his head, hot breath on your jaw as you shudder. he was right, he was patient — but even you could see the way he was throbbing in his pants for you.

"So, like", Bly starts. He is definitely drunk at this point. So is Fox, to be honest, but he is still judging.
"So like what?" Fox asks.
"So, like, what is it?" Bly asks. "The thing."
"Maybe we should have this talk when your brain is not made of 80 percent of alcohol", Fox says.
"No no, we are having this now", Bly says. "Like, the thing. With the Queen and the Senator. Like, you know, I like Aayla because-"
"He's asking you what it is about them that makes you like them that much", Wolffe explains, promptly interrupting Bly, before he can start rambling about General Secura.
Fox knows he shouldn't say anything.
But then he looks at everybody else around the table. They are all grinning.
Yes, his brothers have been teasing him about his choices. Oh, Fox has gotten fancy while on the Triple-Zero. He does not care for the same things as us common folk. No, Fox likes the finer things now, like all the rich people around him.
Fox knows that his brothers are not really taking Bail and Breha seriously. They all respect them, like they should. Bail is not constantly putting himself in the middle of battles to help them and the people out, nor is Breha constantly pushing more credits and aid and trying to handle diplomatics to get better things for the army, for them all to disrespect them.
But Fox knows that they don't take Bail and Breha seriously. They are still rich people, royalty, nobility, people who have gotten used to nice things and nice things only. People who are nice and aspire to do good, but are still soft and delicate in their eyes.
So Fox opens his mouth.
"They are nice", he starts, because that is the starting point.
"Yeah, yeah, we all know that", Rex says. Fox glares at Cody, who in turn, smacks Rex on the arm.
"They treat me well", Fox continues. "And they are fun to be around."
"I'm starting to think that we have a very different understanding of fun these days", Bly grins. "What do you even do for fun? Sit on fancy couches and talk poetry? Do they kiss your hand as a good-bye when you leave?"
"Sometimes", Fox says. Wolffe gags. Fox glares at Cody again, who, in turn, smacks Wolffe on the back of his head.
"Hey, you all have to admit, it's very romantic", Ponds says. "It's very nice."
"Yeah, if sappy romance is all you want", Bly says.
Fox should really keep his mouth shut.
But no. No, he has been listening to this enough. It's time to shut them all up for good.
"You know that they have been married for well over ten years now?" He asks.
"Yeah?" Bly says.
"Do you know how much sex people have on average in long-term relationships?" Fox asks. "According to several databases, at least once a week. That's sex on average every four days. Now, count in your little alcoholic head, how much that is in over ten years."
Bly squints his eyes. Ponds leans his head on his hand.
"It's a lot", Fox says. "And how does it go, Rex? In your book, experience outranks everything?"
Rex pulls a face for being included all of a sudden. Too bad, he opened his mouth first.
"Yeah, but", he says. "Isn't Senator Organa on Coruscant a lot, and not at home on Alderaan?"
"Yes?" Fox tilts his head.
"So like, the calculation is off, then", Rex tries.
Fox grins.
"It is not", he says. "I'm here, too."
Rex looks disgusted. Wolffe gags again.
Cody smacks Fox. Fox smacks him back.
---
"Is everything alright with your brothers?" Bail asks.
"Yes?" Fox asks back. "Why?"
"I met up with a few of the Masters at the Temple earlier today", Bail says. "Some of your brothers were there, too. They seemed a bit...strange, all of a sudden."
"They are all idiots", Fox says. "Don't mind them."
Bail shakes his head.
"If you say so", he says. "Oh, by the way, Breha is coming to Coruscant, to attend a couple of galas and session for educational aid budgeting. She'll be staying a little over a week."
"Oh, that's nice", Fox smiles. "Sorry, I need to send a quick message."
CC >>>>>>>>
Fox: Hey I have to cancel our next two nights out, Breha's coming over
Cody: Okay, say hi to her
Wolffe: Why next two
Fox: She'll be staying for over a week
Wolffe: And?
Fox: Remember, on average, once a week. gotta get that second week's average as well
Fox has been temporarily banned from CC >>>>>>>>

Hate That I Love You
There's an old saying that goes 'There's a fine line between love and hate'. An old saying that would ring true about your relationship with Coriolanus Snow.
Coriolanus needed to marry for power and money in order to cement his path to political (presidential) success. Which is why he married you.
Lucky you…
Anyways, he brokered an arranged marriage with your step-father, who was a high ranking general in the Peacekeepers, by reminding him that your real father Colonel Halvir had served with his father, General Crassus Snow. That they had died together in the woods of 12 by the hands of rebels and it's only fitting that the heirs of both military greats marry.
Honestly, he just wanted your step-father’s money and political support. What better way to get a seat on the war council then to marry the step-daughter of the Head Of The War Department.
Yea, your step-father was given that position after Dr. Gaul met a tragic and accidental death. It's such a pity that she ‘accidently’ slipped and fell into a tank of deadly mutts.
Well, Coriolanus was given her position as Head Gamemaker at only 23 while your family got an even bigger boost in political power.
Of course, your step-father agreed to the match. Your mother was leery about it and your older brother, Rein, honestly didn't give a shit since he was off in one of the districts serving as a peacekeeper. Your younger half-brother, Darius, thought that you were marrying a cold blooded snake.
Oh, how he couldn't be more spot on if he tried.
9 months of marriage (7 of them being pregnant) and your husband was still cold and offish to you. He seemed to avoid you, unless he wanted to get his dick wet.
Hell, he even avoided eating meals with you.
It was a miracle that he even ate Sunday dinners with you, considering he would grab the plate you made up for him and take it to his private study to eat.
All alone and locked away from you. As if you disgusted him.
You'd be lying if you said it didn't bother you, because it did. It hurts (especially since you were pregnant) having a husband that hates you. What makes it worse is that you fell in love with the cold hearted bastard. You don't even know how you managed to do that, but you did.
And on top of everything, your pregnancy wasn't the easiest one either. Even though you’re young, you've been extremely stressed (of course you're stressed, look at who your husband is) and your OBGYN told you that you needed to calm down or else you'd be at risk for a few health issues.
Mostly high blood pressure and…well…you didn't even want to think about the other one the doctor mentioned.
Of course, since your husband’s too busy campaigning for the Senate (he claimed that he needed to become a Senator before he could even think about running for President) he never went to any of your appointments. He offered though. He always offered to go with you, but you always waved him off and told him to worry about his campaign.
That you'd be fine going to the doctor by yourself.
But the truth was, you just couldn't handle pretending to be a happy couple in at the doctor's office. It was easier to let everyone at OBGYN’s office to believe that Coriolanus was busy with his political ambitions along with being the head gamemaker then having them see how uninterested he was in your pregnancy.
How fake his smiles were; how his hands shook with disgust when holding yours.
You were afraid the little cracks in the facade you put on with Coriolanus for the public would crack in the doctor's office. It was too much of a close, intimate setting for the cracks not to be easily hidden.
It wasn't like when he drags you around to galas, showing you off on your arm to the right people only to shoo you off to talk to the rich Capitol housewives. You didn't spend too much time at galas with him. You spent your time playing the part of a pretty perfect housewife that got along with other rich women while your husband spent his time networking.
Talk about your husband, Coriolanus was currently in staring at his reflection in the floor length mirror near the closet while tying his red and black damask tie in a Windsor knot. He looked perfectly handsome today. His platinum hair (Which you were shocked to find out was natural. Say what?!) was perfectly styled and slicked back with gel and his face was freshly shaved. Like always, he was dressed in one of his custom suits that cost more than what somebody in the mines, fields, and factories of the districts made in a month.
It was a black one with a matching waistcoat. Which was a far cry from all white and various shades of red he wore.
Hell, it wasn't just him that wore white and various shades of red, but you too since he deemed what dresses were in your closet. Eh, at least he had his cousin design you some pink dresses to wear in-between all the white and reds he curses you with.
Pink was your favorite color, but you know that he's got no clue. Having his cousin design a few pink dresses for you was just a coincidence.
It didn't mean anything.
As Coriolanus tied his tie with a Windsor knot, his icy blue eyes watched you from the mirror. You were across the room, sitting at the your vanity. Your were brushing your hair and looked a bit lost in your thoughts.
He wanted you ask you what was on your mind, but he was…
Scared.
Yes, he was scared to put himself in a situation where he had to have an actual conversation with you outside of the clipped responses and simple questions that are detrimental to married life.
Coriolanus was afraid that if he talked, truly talked with you, then the well kept secret he's been keeping for the last few months would come spilling out. That he'd have to confront his feelings for you because he knew that once he started to listen to you share your thoughts that he'd be a goner.
That his hard, cold mask he wears around you would shatter.
He just couldn't have that.
He couldn't allow himself to admit that he's in love with you.
Coriolanus swore to himself that he'd never fall in love again. That he'd never give somebody so much power and control over him and his emotions ever again.
That he'd never make himself become weak for a woman.
After Lucy Gray broke his heart by betraying him, manipulating him, and using him to keep her ungrateful ass alive, he swore off love.
Love was painful.
He learned that the hard way.
Love was a weakness that he couldn't afford.
So, he decided to marry somebody that he felt that he'd never be able to love. Somebody that he could even hate. And that's why he picked you.
Yes, your step-father was a very prominent general, but it was your mother's blood running in your veins that made you the perfect candidate for marriage. It was the worst best kept secret in the Capitol that your mother, Helenium, had baby trapped your father, an officer in the peacekeepers, into marrying to rise out of poverty in District 12. The fact that you had district blood, not any district but 12, blood running in your veins was reason enough for Coriolanus to hate you.
So, assuming that he'd hate you til her grew old and died, he approached your step-father about marrying you.
Unfortunately, he didn't anticipate how easy you truly were to fall in love with.
Fuck!
He hated it.
Coriolanus hated having feelings for you.
He didn't like feelings.
He refuses to acknowledge them.
As long as he ignored his feelings then he couldn't get hurt. You couldn't hurt him.
He's never let himself get hurt over love ever again.
Coriolanus was about to turn away from the mirror and walk out of the room, but stopped himself whenever he heard your breath hitch and saw you quickly place your hand on your rounded belly.
Was something wrong? The last time you had a doctor's appointment he intended to take the morning off, but you insisted that he meet with his political team and work on his Senate campaign. But when he got home he asked you how the appointment went and you told him everything was fine.
Did you lie to him?
Turning around to look at you, he asked, “Are you alright, Y/N?”
You powered through the sharp pain and nodded, “I'm fine, Coriolanus.”
“Are you sure?” Your husband asked, starting to make his way over to you with worry in his striking blue eyes.
“I'm sure, Coriolanus.” You lied.
You weren't fine. You were having sharp pains; felt a bit nervous too since you were only 7 months along in your pregnancy. But, you couldn't tell your husband that.
Coriolanus was as cold as his name- Snow.
He didn't give a fuck about you.
Hell, you could die in childbirth and he wouldn't even care. He'd just hire a nanny to raise his heir, your baby boy Cassian Xandros, and then he'd just find somebody else to marry. Somebody else to hate and make miserable.
You felt that Coriolanus wouldn't shed a single tear if something went wrong and you died in childbirth. That he wouldn't mourn you, wouldn't give a shit if your headstone was overrun with weeds and overgrowth.
You were so wrong though. So very wrong about that.
Coriolanus would be utterly heartbroken if he lost you the same way he lost his mother and baby sister. He'd blame himself.
He'd be eating a bullet and joining you in that graveyard, making your son an orphan, if you died in childbirth.
A thin, but fake smile, graces your lips as you assured him, “I'm fine, Coriolanus. It's probably just braxton hicks or something.” You felt him stop right next to you as you set your brush down. His shadow fell over you, but you refused to look up at him. Instead you reached for your powder compact.
Coriolanus gave it to you as a gift after you told him you were pregnant. It was silver and had roses engraved on it. The face powder inside of it smelled like roses too.
Unknown to you, him giving you that compact was his love language.
It belonged to his mother.
The first time he gave it to somebody it was filled with poison to help that manipulative performer of a bitch Lucy Gray to cheat in the arena during the 10th Hunger Games.
The second time he gave it to somebody, the reasoning wasn't twisted, but was genuine. Coriolanus thoroughly cleaned his mother's compact, filled it with rose scented face powder, and gave it to you after learning that you were carrying his child.
He gave it to you because you made him happy. Because you were giving him a family.
It was also the moment when he realized he didn't hate you at all, but actually had feelings for you.
Coriolanus would never admit it, but your pregnancy wasn't a happy one for him. He imagined that he'd be more involved, but you were pushing him so hard to focus on his campaign.
Even though he avoided talking to you for longer then he had to, he still wanted to be involved with your pregnancy. Maybe the next one’ll be happier since he won't be campaigning.
And yes, he planned on having at least one more child with you. Cassian Xandros needed a sibling after all.
Opening the compact and grabbing the puff inside, you told your husband, “I'm fine, really.” Patting the puff into the compact’s powder, you urge him to leave. “If you don't go, you'll be late for your political meetings and duties as head Gamemaker.”
Coriolanus nodded, only to rub your shoulder and say, “If you need me, call me.”, before pivoting on his heel and walking out of your master bedroom.
Tumblr media
You thought that your pains would ease up, but they didn't. As the day progressed, so did they.
It got to the point that as you gazed outside the window, looking at the bustling city streets below, you debated on whether or not to call your husband.
Coriolanus told you to call him if you needed him. But, did you need him? Maybe. Hell, you didn't know. All you knew was that he didn't care about you; would probably be upset that you called him. He was a busy man; you doubt that he actually meant it when he told you to call him.
He probably just said it because it was the husbandly thing to say to a wife that seemed upset.
He didn't mean it. No, he was cold and unfeeling towards you so the less you bothered him the better.
Coriolanus was busy preparing for the start of the games and running a Senate campaign. He didn't need to be bothered by you and your pains.
You let out cry, feeling like a thunderbolt has struck your side. Oh god, the pains were getting worse.
Clenching your teeth, you turned away from the window to shuffle over to the phone.
You weren't going to call your husband. No, you couldn't do that. But, maybe you could call your doctor instead.
Tumblr media
You never called your doctor.
Your sure as hell didn't call your Coriolanus either.
Instead, your 17 year old brother did. And that call, well, it gutted your husband.
He just replayed it over and over again in his mind as he rushed to the hospital (opting to snag the car keys from his driver, Bentley, and just gun it to Capitol General Hospital himself).
“This is Head Gamemaker Coriolanus Snow, to whom am I speaking with?” Coriolanus answered his office phone, like he always did, with a polite but professional greeting.
“Coriolanus, bro, it's Darius-” Your brother began to say, only for the aspiring senator to cut him off with a question of, “Darius, what are you calling me for? Shouldn't you be in class at the Academy right now?”
“Dude, you're the damn Head Gamer, did you forget how the top students are stuck mentoring tributes from districts without Victor's to act as mentors?” Darius asked in a ‘duh, you're an idiot’ type of tone. “I'm stuck being a mentor for District 8 and was given half the day off to go to the Tribute Housing center to make sure everything's all prepared and shit. So, before going over to that shit hole of a glorified hotel, I went to visit my sister, but I found her passed out and bleeding. I had to call the medics.”
Coriolanus’ couldn't believe his ears. You passed out and bleeding! Were you alright? Were you hurt? Was something wrong with the baby? Were you downplaying your pains this morning so he'd go to work instead of staying home with you?
So many questions ran through his platinum blonde head, but before he could string his thoughts together to form a coherent sentence, Darius told him, “You need to get to the hospital quick, Coriolanus. I'm just her brother and can't make any medical decisions for her since she's married to you.” Your little brother let out a shaky breath. “They saved the baby; it's in the NICU cause it came so early, but it's touch and go with Y/N.”
“What?...” Coriolanus let out in a whooshing breath.
Touch and go…
Did that mean?...
No…
No!
He couldn't lose you. Not now, not when he finally realized that he didn't hate you at all, but truly did love you with every fiber of his being.
“I’ll be right there. Thank you for calling, Darius.”
“Don't thank me, Coriolanus.” Darius spat, only to go on a long rant of, “I only called you because I can't make medical decisions for my sister and the hospital staff’s pussies that are too scared shitless of you to do it. If it was up to me, I wouldn't have called cause you're a cold hearted snake that doesn't deserve my sister. Y/N deserved a man that actually cares about her, not somebody that just takes her off a shelf and plays with her like a fucking doll when the mood hits.”
All Coriolanus could do was blink as his brother-in-law hung up on him.
Coriolanus' knuckles were holding onto the steering wheel with a white knuckle grip as he broke every traffic law known to man to get to the hospital.
The fact that he could lose you just like he lost his mother was fucking with his head. It was breaking him in ways that he never knew he could be broken.
Love is a painful thing. Love hurts. Love is the only thing to bring him to his knees. A feeling that he hates.
A feeling that he's tried to avoid.
But he couldn't avoid his feelings for you anymore.
Tumblr media
Once he reached the hospital, Coriolanus inquired about your room, only to rush to your side. When he reached your room, you were hooked up to some machines and monitors.
Your little brother, Darius, was by your side. He was smoking a cigarette (which is not allowed in a hospital, by the way) while watching the Makary Show, which was a TV talk show where district women dragged peacekeepers and Capitol men they claimed were their baby daddies to do paternity tests.
“You can't smoke in here, Darius.” Coriolanus told your little brother while making his way to your bedside.
“It's a private room, cause the name Snow gets the VIP treatment, so it ain't like anyone's gonna complain bout it.”
“Y/N doesn't need to be exposed to it while she's fighting for her life. Be considerate of your sister.” Your husband hissed at your little brother.
“Oh, so now you give a fuck about her all of a sudden? Oooo…that's nice to know.”
Coriolanus' frostily stared Darius as he seethed, “Don't stand here and assume you know how I feel about my wife because you don't. Now, you need to leave.”
“I’ll let my parents know what's going on with Y/N.” Darius sighed, tossing his half smoked cigarette into his water cup before standing to his feet.
Without another word, your brother left your husband alone in your room.
Coriolanus took vigil by your bedside. He never left your side. Not even when a nurse came in and asked if he wanted to be escorted to the NICU to see his son.
He refused, saying that he'd see Cassian Xandros with you when you woke up.
The nurse sadly nodded and left him be. She thought he was grasping at straws since there was a chance that you wouldn't wake up.
Coriolanus begged you to wake up. Promised to make an effort to be around more of you'd only open your beautiful eyes from him.
And finally, after 3 days in a coma, you blinked your eyes open. At first your vision was a bit blurry as you heard a gasp from next to you. As your vision cleared, you saw your that your husband's face was near yours.
And he was crying.
He was crying?
Why was he crying?
You took in his appearance and realized that he looked like shit. His platinum curls, usually slick back with gel, were disheveled and greasy. He also had light blonde stuble covering his jaw.
But it was his icy blue eyes that tooth your breath away.
They held so much relief in them as they welled with water.
“Corio-” You began to ask, only for your husband to cut you off. “My darling, I thought I was going to lose you.” Coriolanus held you close to his chest and his voice cracked.
“Lose me? What happened?” You asked, pulling away from his hold to look up at him with confusion shining in your eyes.
“Darius found you passed out and bleeding, Y/N. You've been out of it for roughly 3 days.” Your husband explained, his usually firm voice a bit unsteady.
The air was knocked out of your lungs as the realization of what happened hit you. “The baby?...” You shakily asked, hoping that your baby boy survived.
“Cassian Xandros is strong and a survivor, just like us.” Coriolanus smiled. Tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, he explained, ‘He's in the NICU; the nurse can take us to see him.”
Assuming that Coriolanus has seen your son already, you innocently asked, “Does he look like me or like you?”
“I don't know, darling. I've been waiting for you to wake up so we can see him together.”
Your husband's answer blindsided you. You weren't expecting that.
But what he said next, well, that rendered you speechless.
His baby blue eyes met yours as he poured out his blackened soul to you. His fingers threaded with yours as he confessed, “I was terrified that you weren't going to make it, Y/N. I was afraid that I'd have to go through the pain of heartbreak all over again.”
Your eyes widened at his words. Heartbreak? Did that mean…
“The first time I fell in love it was 7 years ago, when I was Lucy Gray’s mentor.”
You didn't need to hear that. You already knew he fell for her. Hell, everyone that was in the Top 24 of the Academy graduating class of 10 ADD knew that (yourself included).
Great, so he was going to tell you that he was still hung up on his lost first love while you lay in the hospital bed? What a cold hearted man you were married to. Hell, why would he even do that.
A glazed over look appeared in his eyes and his baritone grew tight. “I nearly destroyed my entire life for her. For love. And you know where it got me? Heartbroken, used up, betrayed, and alone.”
“Corio-”, You began, not understanding where he was coming from, only for him to interrupt you with the simple request of, “Please, call me Coryo.”
You nodded, prompting him to continue his holy confession, “Lucy Gray and her love left me feeling like a fool. I hated feeling like that and swore that I'd never let myself feel that way again. That I’d never fall in love again.” Coryo's thumb brushed over your knuckles. “I swore to marry a woman that I could never love, but only hate in order to never feel weak, broken, humiliated, and manipulated again.”
Great…so now it's confirmed that he hates you. You always suspected it, but now you know the truth for sure. You swallowed down a lump in your truth and softly said, “I understand, Coryo.”
“No, I don't think you do, darling.” Your husband shook his head, making his blonde curls rustle around. “I hate myself for loving you, my darling rose, because you have the power to destroy me if you wish.”
“Y-you love me?” You gasped as tears began to tickle your eyes.
“Yes.” Your husband smiled. “Very much and it frightens me because of what happened between me and that manipulative bitch all those years ago.”
Oh wow…Lucy Gray sure did do a number on your husband. Oh, if you ever got your hands on her, you'd rip hair hair out and claw her eyes out for the emotional turmoil she put Coriolanus through. If it wasn't for her breaking his heart so badly, you would’ve had a better marriage.
“I love you too, Coryo, and I'll never hurt you the way she did.’ You promised your husband.
“You better not or else I'll burn down all of Panem this time in the wake of my heartbreak.” Your husband teased before pressing a kiss to your lips.
A kiss filled with every single emotion he's ever held back from you these last few months. His lips fit perfectly against yours as he drank in your soul with every moment they made against yours.
You broke apart whenever you heard a nurse loudly clearing her throat. Once you looked to the woman, she smiled and simply said, ‘I’m glad to see you're up, Mrs. Snow. How would you like to see your son?”
Tumblr media
3 Months Later…
The way Cassian Xandros Snow entered the world was very dramatic but you wouldn't change a thing about it. In fact, if it wasn't for his dramatic birth then you and your husband might have gone your entire lives without confessing the love you have for each other.
Oh, that would've been horrible.
You were sitting in a white glider, rocking your son to sleep after feeding him, whenever the sound of barefeet slapping against the marble floor made you look up towards the doorway.
“Happy anniversary, darling.” Coriolanus smiled, single pink rose in his hand, as he walked into the nursery.
*Happy Anniversary, Coryo.” You smiled back, watching your husband as he made his way over to your side. Flickering your eyes between the pink rose and his icy blue eyes, you remarked, “I was expecting a white rose, not a pink one.”
“Yes, well, it's only fitting that I give you a pink rose today. After all, pink roses are your favorite; the white ones are mine.”
“How did you know that? I never told you?”
“I can be quite observant and a bit obsessive when I'm in love.” Was Coriolanus' answer as he passed you the rose, only to take your son into his arms.
Pecking your husband on his plush lips, you honestly told him, “And I wouldn't want you any other way, Coryo.”
Because, honestly, you preferred his obsessive love over his cold and distant hate. After experiencing both, well, you quickly discovered that it was better to be the center of Coriolanus Snow's world than to not be in it at all.
He hated that he loved you, but you loved that he loved you.

If I were to do a A/B/O story with Steddie this is how I would do it (I've never done omega-verse for any of my fandoms, but damn there is something about Steddie that just screams it, you know?)
Steve was sold to a place that uses infertile omegas as sex toys. Rut servicing, gang bangs, orgies, or even just pretty arm candy for special events. The point is that the Harringtons sold him when they found out he couldn't be sold to the wealthiest, most influential alphas as a broodmare.
They are pretty much indentured and have to pay off the debt of how much the company paid for them. Steve pays off his debt and stays. Most omegas leave, but he loves what he does. He really loves rut servicing. It's his favorite because he has all the control during the three to four days the alpha is sex crazed. He also loves that he can take care of them without them thinking he's in for the bond bite.
Steve's at some gala or event or whatever on the arm of an older alpha, probably a senator or someone important like that when he meets Eddie Munson, frontman for Corroded Coffin.
They're introduced and they hit off, until Steve mentions offhand that he's infertile. Because that angers Eddie for some reason.
Eddie sets up Steve to be his rut servicer and demands that Steve be placed on some kind of birth control. It's a strange request, but it's granted.
When Steve arrives, Eddie tells him under no uncertain terms that either of them are going to be barebacking. Condoms are required.
This pisses Steve off. He's infertile and these demands are just ridiculous. He can't get pregnant.
Eddie scoffs. If he was infertile it would reflect in his scent. It would be sickly sweet, like overripe fruit. Cloying almost. But Steve doesn't smell like that. He smells darker, woodier, more like spices then fruity.
Steve frowns, he hadn't heard that about omegas, but it made sense, his other co-workers did have that sweet smell, but never really thought about it being different than his own.
But before they could talk it out, Eddie goes into his rut hard. Harder then it's ever been and Steve is pretty much scrambling to keep up with the sex.
At the end of the five days, Steve is worn out and ready to pass out for the next week, but he needs to know what Eddie was talking about.
Eddie tells him that he's not infertile, he's an ultra-fertile omega. So rare that they present in only 1% of the human population as a whole. Red-heads are more common they are.
Basically they are only fertile during their heats, but instead of having only a 1 in 5 chance of getting pregnant like omegas do in heat (1 in 8 out of heat), they can get pregnant 4 in 5 chance of getting pregnant. In fact, they are so revered that they can have their pick of the best alphas in their country. Some of them even go so far as casting their net over the whole fucking world.
Steve isn't sure he believes him, but his parents never tested for it because it was too rare. So it's possible that he could be, it's not like he can test it now. The test needs to be done at the time he presented. The only way to know for sure is if he shared a heat with an alpha (he's not allowed to as service omega to spend it with anything but toys) and he doesn't know of any alpha willing to take the chance that he might be some golden omega.
Only Eddie is totally willing. Willing to even bond Steve, with or without the ultra-fertility.
Steve is shocked. He's even more shocked when he goes into heat just from being so close to Eddie. Because he's on blockers, that's not supposed to happen.
While Steve is still cognizant he consents to Eddie helping him through the heat, suddenly grateful for the condom and birth control stipulation is suddenly very welcome.
It's only a light one that lasts a couple of days, but it's the best he's ever had. The first he's ever shared with an alpha. And he loved it.
He found out that in order to share Steve's heat, Eddie had to pay a lot of money for the privilege so he just bought Steve's contract as a whole. The one he made because he brought in so much money to the company.
They talk about bonding and sharing Steve real heat. The reason Eddie was so insistent on the contraception measures is that his scent had been known to break blockers in the past.
Which makes sense, some alphas just have that strong a scent. It's not a thing like an ultra-omega, but just something that could happen. The company tended to screen those types of alphas and made sure that the omega would be safely whisked away. It just never happened to Steve before.
Eddie courts Steve properly and they bond. And sure enough Eddie was right Steve gets pregnant, and suddenly Steve's parents are banging on the door demanding they be compensated for the fact that he's an ultra-omega and could have been sold for lots, lots more money then the company gave them.
But Steve tells them to fuck off and slams the door in their faces. And Steve and Eddie live happily ever after with their growing family.
