an epitaph on a tombstone / a tombstone of Alfred Schnittke, a composer. The symbol 𝄐, fermata, means "to stop, to hold till the sound disappears", the long thick line in the music staff, semibreve, means "whole rest" and fff, forte fortissimo, means "super loud". So, since the creator of the music is no longer there, there is only an everlasting, deafeningly loud silence.

The newest darling addition to the island! (What a polite little egg!) Some design notes beneath the cut!
Tallulah's nickname 'Semibreve' was the name I suggested for her in the stream. It is the longest note in common music! (I think. Maybe my research was in vain). I thought it would be a clever nod to a hopeful future of living a long life! Because of this, a cute little nickname.
I like to believe Tallulah's the smallest of her siblings, and ergo has the smallest dragon traits.
As seen with my Juanaflippa piece, I add a small ornament to the ends of their tails. I like to think the dragons take on traits of their parents. Because Wilbur is her father singularly, she looks the most like her surrogate parent.
Of course, I added the hat Wilbur gave to her. The flute resides on a belt loop, no I don't know how or where the egg holds onto it.
The music notes are (allegedly) the notes to 'DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love' by Usher, though again, I am not too sure how accurate this was!
Thank you all for being so nice about my first piece! It makes me eager to work on more in the future. :3

The Airs of Pilgrim's Dawn
a randomiser quality: 38 little snippets from life in my silver city
0-4: A gust of smog from the East.
5-9: A jade figurine is thrown from a window, smashing into fragments onto the cobbles.
10-14: A preacher and a tracklayer stand at a street corner, chatting about the lack of weather.
15-19: A tracklayer walks down the street with a pushchair, laughing at her infant’s babbling.
20-24: The most recent Hour of Dance lasted all night. Limbs are still sore, but there is a sense of solidarity in the city.
25-29: The Burrow-Church is bright and looming.
30-33: A ginger tom slinks into a nearby alley.
34-37: Urchins run through the street, flicking pigments at one another. Their graffiti is left half-complete on a high wall.
38-41: A mechanical failure: this street’s red night lamps haven’t turned off. The buildings are illuminated in a sleepy orange-pink.
42-45: The whistle of a locomotive. A tracklayer reacts with a grumble — her partner with a nostalgic sigh.
46-49: A couple of gendarmes patrol a street, chatting amicably as they go. Pilgrim’s Dawn may have fewer laws than London, but what is sacred must still be protected.
50-52: A particularly forceful drum beat startles a group of pigeons from their roost. They mingle with bats in the cavern air.
53-55: A spirifer (is that the right term, where spirifage is not a crime?) bows to a passerby, trenchcoat clinking as he does so.
56-58: A stall offers ‘REAL HADDOCK PIES’ – though they smell like Evenlode angler.
59-61: The smell of roses and sulphur is thick today.
62-64: Yet another frieze is carefully carried up to the Burrow-Church. Theology, it seems, is an active process.
65-67: A young bohemian reads poetry on a street corner. The imagery is beautiful, but his delivery could use work.
68-70: An effort is made to align phonograph music with the earthen drum beats. ‘Close enough’ is achieved, and a small dance floor forms on the street corner.
71-73: A tracklayer’s hanging garden falls as he tends it. Porcelain, roses and soil scatter over the cobbles.
74-76: A fire breaks out – the accompanying screams are only of tourists.
77: There are no door knockers in Pilgrim’s Dawn.
78-79: A Starved Man lumbers through the streets. Dancers swerve to avoid him, snatches of suspicion visible from within their pirouettes.
80-81: ‘The Bun: A hairstyle for the working man!’ a poster proclaims.
82-83: A green-eyed devil sighs as he watches a couple dance. One tries to spin away from her partner but stumbles – she falls into his arms, laughing.
84-85: A pair of Clay Men tango slowly in a crowd; their quavers are the others’ semibreves.
86-87: A rat lingers by a carving of your face. It scratches its back using your nose.
88-89: A rose-scholar looks over a balcony at the dancers below, jots down notes of their movements.
90: Morning prayers: north, east, south, up, down.
91: The sound of the sea – not the zee, the real thing – seems to emanate from the south.
92: A young deacon tries to explain what a ‘Judgement’ is to a curious Clay Man. It’s clear that she doesn't entirely understand the concept herself.
93: A fox? No, just your imagination.
94: ‘My daughter!’ cries a tracklayer, eyes wild and regretful. ‘No, I—’ And then he snaps back to himself.
95: An Infernal Tourist protests – the Rose Giveth Its Verses to Devils – but the tracklayers dance on, heedless.
96: A black, shuttered palanquin is borne through the streets by two weathered Clay Men. There are whispers – surely not the Empress? … Another royal? – but nobody impedes their progress.
97: A dolorous devil stalks the streets. He tries to keep to the sparse shadows and startles at dancers of the Terpsichore.
98: Trumpets at the gates; a regiment of devils pass through on their way to the Burrow-Church.
99: A bulky figure in a glittering cloak sweeps through the streets. Insults are hurled in its wake.
100: The ever-present drumming has a lazy, contented quality to it today. Is the Drummer… happy?

"There are people who enter our lives lightly, softly, like a semibreve, invade and last with affection, do not evade and last. Those that cease pains, fears, return loves, soon resurrect us and raise dreams like angels and archangels in a waste of peace. Incapable of awakening ghosts to land in our heart, they choose to be a donation and accept us with all our imperfections."

Mxr. Brubot, what's your relationship like with the regional assistant manager?
-🦷
Sorry babe, but that title doe- wait- stop, snap, semibreve... rewinddddd rearrange- you're talking about Toonie baby, aren't 'cha babe???
Well, if the name of the game on the side of this plane that is this monster's spread soliloquy is them, what can I NOT sing about that lockpicking lovely???? The answer is nothing, babe, I'm a crooning crockpot that's non-stop!!! And with Toonie, oh babe, suits just don't get it- some of you animated amigos don't see the sheet music yet either, babes. Noah fence, of course-! Unless you're that salted crocodile jerky, in that case, babe, Dave doesn't groove with the shadows that snap and snuff out such a sublime shining star-!!! He'd rather swing with the striking stunners.
Sighhhh... she's the best assistant a jazzy jumping jitterbug could ever ask for, babes!!! She doesn't see it, but baby, as an empath, I see, and I see with my little E a barrel of excitement and sparks that fly, the the barrel isn't barrel shaped, it's shaped like Toonie! A wonderful plus two if you ever get that duet groove, a suit who's somehow managed to make golf a groovy gay ol' time, a spectrum that leaves me stunned, a heart of sugary sweet treats- have you SEEN the cuff they made for me, babes???? You should!!!! Look at that!!! A special symphony of plastic beads, all for lil old me!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could I NOT love them, babes!? She's caught me with two left feet, it's such a rare treat, and babe...
No matter what, I hope this musical monster can make them feel like the shining star that they are.
...why do you ask, babe??? Has she said anything?

do you only use musescore for composing or other programs as well?
also i've been looking at the english names for notes and i saw that their british names are things like breve, minim or crochet? i would get them confused all the time lol
i only really use musescore, ive looked at other things thouugh and certainly if i wanted to do something non-orchestral or non-synth (ie guitar or singing) i’d experiment with other softwares! musescore is good for what it does and also the fact that it’s free (or at least i haven’t paid for anything) but it very much has its flaws too
and yeah!! for note lengths your standard ones are semibreves (4 beats), minims (2 beats), crotchets (1 beat) and quavers (1/2 beats). looking at it objectively they are confusing but you very much get used to it or at least i have, i find quarter notes or whatever much more confusing

‘Oh? So we’re a team now, hmm?’ she exclaimed, lifting their clasped hands and waving them in front of his face, ‘Partners in crime?’
His eyebrows arched invitingly, widening his perfect blue eyes until she could see so much promise illuminated. She hung her head and grinned at her sneakers. Where she stood, so close to him, her feet were bracketed between his larger ones. She rocked on the balls of her feet and sighed again.
Whoever you once were, I bet you were good at causing trouble for people like me.
‘I hate to break it to you, handsome, but I’ve always been more of a one-woman show,’ Ada reluctantly withdrew her hand from his, ‘It’s... a nice thought though.’
Delta eyes brightened as if that admission had been more than he’d dared to hope for.
‘It’s getting late,’ she said, stepping aside and nodding at his stasis pod.
He obediently hopped to his feet and climbed inside. He knew they’d pick up where they left off in the morning. They always did. This wasn’t the end of their song. This was simply a semibreve rest; the short pause in-between. Gratitude and gentle mornings would always follow.
Ada programmed in his next sleep cycle, mentally calculating whether she had enough time to bathe, sleep, eat breakfast with Emery and Donovan, and file her reports before Delta woke up. Over time their schedules had become synced like two clocks in different rooms chiming at each other from across the hallway; it’s a harmony she could set her heartbeat to.
It was getting harder to imagine her days without him. But the date of his departure loomed like a storm cloud, dark and pregnant with misery. She had to practice letting go. Instead she was sinking deeper into Delta’s open arms, as if fate might merge them into one being so she’d be carried along wherever he went.
I’ve imagined every scenario, but I can’t imagine one where I wouldn’t miss you.

C , ESME . - ' when’s the last time you ate? '
for days at a time he would sit, occupying himself at his piano, scrawling music notes in tidy and errorless lines to no foreseen end. breve, semibreve, quaver, semiquaver, demisemiquaver, and so on. he would become submerged in the innumerable sheets of white manuscript paper. the breeze on an open window might roll them over like waves, he and his ivory - keyed sailboat floating serenely at its center.
" mother, " he murmurs to her. calmly, firmly, yet without losing his tenderness. a long silence. the soft scratching of the ink pen had died away. he leans back, seems to come into himself, as if he had gone away and been elsewhere for a long time. his eyes, his voice, his complexion, all dull. without turning : " - i can't remember.
