SEMATARY SHARES NEW VIDEO SINGLE "WENDIGO"
Tumblr media
The Northern California-based experimental rapper and producer, Sematary has just released his new single “WENDIGO” and accompanying music video. The new release follows Sematary’s recent collaboration with Chief Keef and Hackle on “Fuck the World” from the forthcoming FTP mixtape. As the founder and leader of the Haunted Mound collective, Sematary has gained a massive cult-like fan base since releasing his pioneering debut mixtape, Rainbow Bridge in 2019 which accumulated over 50 Million streams and was championed by the likes of Anthony Fantano, Paste Magazine and No Bells. Pushing the boundaries of rap music, Sematary’s dark and experimental sound combines sonic elements of 2010’s Chicago Drill, Witch House, and SoundCloud-era Trap music with haunting visual aesthetics and “deep-fried” imagery evoking a feeling of rural American decay. With his new single “WENDIGO”, Sematary maintains the dark and ominous aspects of his signature identity while entering new sonic territory with new wave-inspired production, featuring a shoegaze guitar riff and synth pop drums. The track’s title, “WENDIGO” is a reference to the North American Algonquian-speaking First Nation word that describes an ancient mythical deer god that possesses a desire to kill and eat their victims due to their greed or weakness. Likening himself to the folklore, Sematary delivers a track that doubles as a love song while simultaneously cursing out the subject for not having faith in their love.
Sematary’s new single arrives on the heels of a career minting year in 2023 in which he surpassed X million streams, performed at Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash Festival, toured as direct support on $uicideboy$Grey Day stadium tour, and dropped collaborative records with BLP KOSHER as well as BLACK KRAY. Best known for his popular tracks like “Bunny Suit” (13M+ Streams) and “Slaughter House” (12M+ Streams), as well as his recent collaborations, Sematary’s new video single “WENDIGO” effectively marks a new chapter for the Haunted Mound leader. As he continues to lean into his distorted sound and harsh aesthetics, Sematary is kicking off 2024 by revitalizing the very sound that he’s pioneered, stretching his vocal performances and brazen production style to new heights. Contributing to his mercurial status as the pioneer of a burgeoning underground scene, Sematary and his Haunted Mound collective are looking forward to sharing more music and news soon.

“UNKNOWN MYSTERY” by INXCTIVE on Soundcloud! The whole project could alternatively be called “Finally Rich Leftovers”. It consists of 14 hidden gems that were recorded right after the releases of “Back From The Dead” up to the official release of “Finally Rich”. The story behind “Finally Rich” is quite interesting. Like all Chief Keef’s projects, this one was also delayed by many months. Originally, the project was supposed to be released in May 2012 as a mixtape, and it was very different from what we now know as “Finally Rich”. However, the label pushed Chief Keef, shortly after he signed a $6 million deal with Interscope Records, to release an album instead of a mixtape. At the age of 16, he didn’t care much, but this was a real opportunity to break into the mainstream, where he was starting to gain traction during this time. Many of these tracks are relatively unknown to the masses, but each track has its own magic and really represents the era when Chief Keef was on the rise.

Kendrick-Drake Beef Playlist
(Disclaimer: All accusations between the two artists are alleged. As of 5/9/24, there has been no formal investigation regarding allegations of sexual trafficking, abuse to minors, illegitimate children, or domestic violence. Viewer discretion is advised.) Out of the loop? Here's the track list of disses in order:
1) Control (Big Sean ft. Kendrick Lamar & Jay Electronica)
Infamous enough that former President Barack Obama was asked who would win a rap battle between Kendrick and Drake. He chose Kendrick Lamar.
Bout who's the best MC? Kendrick, Jigga and Nas I'm usually homeboys with the same n---a I'm rhymin' wit But this is hip hop and them n---as should know what time it is And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
2) First Person Shooter (Drake ft. J Cole)
First response from Drake after Control dropped, this time featuring J Cole who completed the ultimate trifecta of today's popular rap artists.
Love when they argue the hardest MC Is it K Dot, is it Aubrey or me? We the big three like we started the league But right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali
3) Like That (Future, Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar)
Second response after FPS. Kendrick refuses to share the crown with Drake and J Cole and challenges them for the top spot.
Think I won't drop the location? I still got PTSD Motherfuck the big three, n---a, it's just big me N---a, bum, what? I'm really like that And your best work is a light pack N---a, Prince outlive Mike Jack N---a, bum, 'fore all your dogs gettin' buried That's a K with all these nines, he gon' see Pet Sematary
4) 7 Minute Drill (J Cole)
J Cole decides to beef with Kendrick after being called out in Like That. He quickly disowned 7 Minute Drill and days later apologized to Kendrick Lamar during a live show. Allegedly, after hearing that the beef between Kendrick and Drake was serious, J Cole bowed out of the beef because he thought it was a friendly competition.
He still doin' shows But fell off like the Simpsons Your first shit was classic Your last shit was tragic If he wasn't dissin' Then we wouldn't be discussin' him
5) Push Ups (Drake)
While J Cole ducks for cover, Drake moves forward with the beef, though it's also a collective diss to Rick Ross, and Metro Boomin. This is also where he drops Kendrick's fiancee's name, Whitney and makes fun of his height. You won't ever take no chain off of us How the fuck you big steppin' with a size-seven men's on? This the bark with the bite, n---a, what's up? I know my picture on the wall when y'all cook up Extortion baby, whole career, you been shook up 'Cause Top told you, "Drop and give me fifty," like some push-ups, huh
6) Taylor Made Freestyle (Drake ft. Tupac AI and Snoop Dogg AI)
Second shot at Kendrick, this was released on IG. Drake uses AI for this track, using Snoop Dogg and 2Pac to taunt Kendrick. 2Pac's estate demanded that the track be taken down as it was an unauthorized use of 2Pac's voice. Drake eventually took the track down, but the damage was already done.
Dot, I know you're in that NY apartment, you strugglin' right now, I know it In the notepad doing lyrical gymnastics, my boy You better have a motherfuckin' quintuple entendre on that shit Some shit I don't even understand, like That shit better be crazy, we waitin' on you
7) Euphoria (Kendrick Lamar)
Kendrick officially warns Drake that he has dirt on him. Euphoria is also a hit show about troubled girls, which Drake is a producer of. This is also the infamous track where KDot demands Drake lose his N-word privileges.
I make music that electrify 'em, you make music that pacify 'em I can double down on that line, but spare you this time, that's random acts of kindness Know you a master manipulator and habitual liar too But don't tell no lie about me and I won't tell truths 'bout you
8) 6:16 in LA (Kendrick Lamar)
While waiting for Drake's response, Kendrick shocks the hip hop world with a second shot a couple days after Euphoria, exactly on 6:16am (PST). This track is meant to spook Drake. Kendrick gloats of how he got his hands on a mole in Drake's entourage and they're feeding him scandalous information about Drake.
But let me tell you some game 'cause I can see you, my lil' homie You playin' dirty with propaganda, it blow up on ya You're playin' nerdy with Zack Bia and Twitter bots But your reality can't hide behind wifi Your lil' memes is losin' steam, they figured you out The forced opinions is not convincin', y'all need a new route It's time that you look around on who's around you Before you figure that you're not alone, ask what Mike would do
9) Family Matters (Drake)
A few hours after 6:16, Drake finally responds to the beef. He ups the ante by taking shots at Kendrick's family and drops that Kendrick beats his wife. Drake also threatens other artists who may be siding against him. This is also the most he's said the N-word in his song, taunting Kendrick for revoking his N-word privileges in Euphoria.
When you put your hands on your girl, is it self-defense 'cause she bigger than you? Your back is up against the curb, you diggin' for dirt, should be diggin' for proof Why did you move to New York? Is it 'cause you livin' that bachelor life? Proposed in 2015, but don't wanna make her your actual wife I'm guessin' this wedding ain't happenin', right?
EDIT: This post on reddit believes that Family Matters was the whole reason for the Euphoria drop. This is pure speculation, however, so decide for yourself the validity of these receipts!
10) Meet the Grahams (Kendrick Lamar)
Not even 45 MINUTES after Drake drops Family Matters, Kendrick responds, robbing Drake of his temporary triumph. He straight up lays waste to Drake's entire family, offering to be Adonis' mentor because Drake's a deadbeat dad, calling out Drake's parents for raising him terribly, and revealing that Drake has another illegitimate child, this time a daughter he's been hiding for eleven years. He also warns the female listeners that if they like Drake, they're exposing themselves to a predator.
Dear Aubrey I know you probably thinkin' I wanted to crash your party But truthfully, I don't have a hatin' bone in my body This supposed to be a good exhibition within the game But you fucked up the moment you called out my family's name Why you had to stoop so low to discredit some decent people? Guess integrity is lost when the metaphors doesn't reach you
11) Not Like Us (Kendrick)
24 hours after Meet the Grahams, Kendrick drops a new diss track, this time actively calling for Drake's life, saying he has fake street cred, called the people in his entourage pedophiles, and releasing the track just before everybody hits the club on a Saturday night just to rub salt in the wound. He calls out Drake on behalf of 2Pac and promises he has at least five more diss tracks waiting, knowing that Drake hasn't had the chance to respond yet. He also mentions Family Matters, which meant he wrote his responding diss in less than 24 hours.
Let me break it down for you, this the real n---a challenge You called Future when you didn't see the club Lil Baby helped you get your lingo up 21 gave you false street cred Thug made you feel like you a slime in your head Quavo said you can be from Northside 2 Chainz say you good, but he lied You run to Atlanta when you need a few dollars No, you not a colleague, you a fuckin' colonizer
12) The Heart Part 6 (Drake)
Also 24 hours after Kendrick's last diss track, Drake finally drops a response. He addresses some of the allegations, including purposefully feeding info from the mole to Kendrick about a daughter that doesn't exist. He takes a few more shots at Kendrick's relationships, implying that his partner Whitney hasn't denied the accusations of domestic violence. He also clowns on Kendrick's sexual abuse as a child and blames that on his witch hunt to prove Drake was a pedophile. He ends the diss saying that he was tired of the whole beef and he didn't want to fight with an alleged woman beater. As of 5/9/24, THP6 has more dislikes than likes on Youtube.
My mom came over today, and I was like, "Mother, I— Mother, I—, mother—," ahh, wait a second Wait a second, that's that one record where you say you got molested Aw, fuck me, I just made the whole connection This about to get so depressing This is trauma for your own confessions
_____
This is the BARE BONES summary of the long, bitter history between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. This doesn't even cover it all. This is just about the disses. I recommend looking up the history between them for more context in other places.
It's 5/9/24 and 3:00pm (PST) as of this post. Updates will be posted accordingly.

My thoughts on Fuck The World by Sematary, Hackle, and Sosa
Haunted Mound's music and the discourse surrounding it exemplifies the fact that you can't truly "win" in the music scene as a whole, you will have haters don't matter what (unless you are a blonde woman who sings folky pop music and people treat you like a god and the ones who dare to dislike you are called misogynists or even nazis). Sematary is widely known for his quick uprising to underground hip hop hegemony being compared to groups like Drain Gang, Goth Money, and G59, the thing about his music is how the direction he started his music attracted a particular audience who were at most interested in the witch house + emo + plugg fusion he did with his partner Ghost Mountain, but as time passed, Grave Man changed his style to noisier and drill oriented, talking about violence and murder on a more Horrorcore fashion instead of the peep-esque emo misanthropy of his debut albums. The noisier style is often fused with black metal music. The issue here is how the paradox of innovation applies to his art, you see if he kept the style he had with Ghost Mountain to this day, people would call him repetitive and one-note. If he kept the black metal style of the Rainbow Bridge saga, he would be called one note and repetitive. And because he is keeping the violent dissonant witch drill style, he is being called repetitive and one-note. But there is also the fact that every time he innovates his style to a new direction, he alienates a part of his audience, as he alienated people who wanted more black metal-style music, and he alienated the Ghost Mountain fan audience who wanted more emo witch plugg. That's why I say that he is stuck on a paradox where he can't truly win everybody and by scrapping KOTG 2 because of its poor reception, he is playing by this game that he can't win, since he has constantly shown how much he cares about the opinions of others, he doesn't "do what he wants to do" as he claims to, if he did, he wouldn't scrap songs based on other's people reception. Now, about the song, it's truly overhated by the Haunted Mound fanbase. Yes, Sematary's lyrics are freestyled and this makes them incredibly cheesy, but the cheese of lyricism is what gives Horrorcore music its particular charm, we are talking about a genre where one of its pioneers had lyrics about having sex with pigeons. Hackle and Sosa's verses are more gangsta-oriented and don't look freestyled at all, which gives the song a notorious quality jump from there. with Keef's verse being the best of all and giving me personally an adrenaline jump unique to him, I would mosh to his verse despite hating crowded environments.

What's up babygirls (literally no one reads my blog) here's my March topster
Tumblr media
This month was mostly shit I thought it would be interesting to listen... so lot of metal again. Also for the sake of my sanity I have 2 records that I genuinely don't know what the fuck I should do with.
Unrated: Current 93-I have a special plan for this world (Dark Ambient/Poetry): Arguably the best scary stuff I have ever listened but I never want to hear this again as once was perfectly enough. It gives a really disturbing atmosphere and the poetry part itself was interesting too. I highly recommend checking it out at least once. Slipknot-Iowa(Nu metal): I don't get it. The instrumentation is good but the lyrics are so god damned corny that it hurts. It doesn't help that it sounds like death metal for people who don't want to listen to actual death metal. I probably give it another chance later... not now tho I still can't take The Heretic Anthem seriously.
Alright now the actual tierlist begins:
14th: Combat Wounded Veteran-Electric Youth Crew(Powerviolence): I had a small journey and sat down to listen through the entire CWV discography (it's not that long definitely recommend it to get into powerviolence) and this is arguably the "weakest" of their releases. It doesn't really stand out and can be forgotten easily.
13th: CWV-This Is Not an Erect, All-Red Neon Body (Powerviolence/Grindcore): Idk it just doesn't click as well as IKAGWDCSP.
12th: Death-The Sound of Perseverance(Death/Prog Metal):Jesus Christ this album was a major disappointment for me. As a last Death album I expected it to be a last brutal yet technically extreme blast...but they just had to listen to 30 hour acid freeform jazz or some shit to get inspiration. This album has genuine fire songs, but they just had to fuck up the in the middle with a boring ass bass "solo" or someshit... Also the Painkiller cover is the worst song I heard this year so far, how the fuck can you ruin a perfect song when you are already a talented vocalist is beyond me.
11th: CWV-Duck Down for the Torso(Powerviolence/Grindcore): A short and sweet end for CWV's discography. Having it end on a Folded Space song was a great choice which gives an interesting feeling for the end.
10th: Stabbing-Extirpated Mortal Process(Brutal Death/Slam metal): Now this is a good slam metal album.
9th: Sematary-Bloody Angel(Horrorcore/Chicago drill): After Sems last EP I thought it was over... BUT IT ISN'T! It gives vibes of RB2 with RB3 mixing with some HAW mixed in. He can cook just let him do his thing
8th: Spycada-Hiking Lung(Psychedelic rock): It's good, great vibe, good tones, overall enjoyable. Looking forward to their next stuff.
7th: Magrudergrind-Self title(Grindcore/Powerviolence): THE grindcore album. Absolutely slaps, the sample use is interesting.
6th: Igorrr-Spirituality and Distortion(Avant Guard Metal/Breakcore) This... is Schrödinger's kitchen. I don't know if the kitchen is burned down or has served a 5 star menu, until I care to write an actual criticism of it. (Also the mixing of metal, break core and classical music is insane and the sheer heaviness this album gives is phenomenal, though it falls of gradually on the second half)
5th:Sweet Trip-Velocity : Design : Comfort(IDM/Glitch Pop) At least 200 people already circle jerk around this album, yes it is good, no I don't explain why I love it because I ain't talking about why breathing air is good.
4th:Have a nice life-Deathconsciousness(Post Punk/Shoegaze): Same as last time, people already told you enough why it's good, just fucking listen through it already. (side note some of the songs on this albums mixed weirdly quite for some reason, and it's kinda wack how the drone parts are the best, but still really good)
3th: Dead in the Dirt-The Blind Hole(Grindcore/Powerviolence) Jesus I listen to a lot of powerviolence this month... Anyways this is probably my favourite pw record yet. Probably the more understandable vocals help to lift it just a little bit above the rest for me.
2th:Mastodon-Leviathan(Sludge metal/Prog metal) Fun fact in the 2000's 2 whale concept prog metal albums came out, both of which are peak. I don't know how they got The Moby Dick nailed so well in metal form but they sure did with heavy riffs and amazing vocal performances.
1th: Electric Wizard-Witchcult Today(Stoner/Doom metal): I was afraid to check out the rest of EW discography after Dopethrone cuz it is too peak... However this album is probably as good as Dopethrone. Something about this album gives more OG metal vibes with less insanity.

Reverse Boss battle, Asova ( @curiosofthechasm )
@curiosofthechasm
Sematary - 10,000 Weeping Choirs
Tumblr media
Grimy, hazy, and marauding, with aggressive bass and machine-gun hi-hats. A scary choir, too. Asova likely sees Limbo as an insect, and an unhinged drill rap song like this would illustrate the savagery the mortal hitman would need to display in order to have a ghost of a chance.
