Oh my god. Do you know what yesterday was and I forgot it.

MY ANNIVERSARY WITH FORD.

That is to say, my main F/O, the one who now literally lives in my head.

It's funny because I was in the middle of a (failed) detox when we got together (i.e. I made my first self-ship blog, which is what I count as the anniversary) and we were on the last day of a (successful) detox yesterday.

This is the first anniversary I've spent with him since Venn (the fictive) split. It's fun because my actual anniversary with Venn is eight days after the fictional anniversary with his source character and three days after the anniversary of the system coming out of dormancy and thus me becoming aware of Venn as an alter!

But yeah I've been self-shipping with Ford for two years now <3

maybe i'm just weird but i love launching re8 just to run around lady d's castle and get chased by her so like. rare day where the castle is mostly empty and lady d is actually itching to like hunt someone for whatever reason so s/i just... offers to pretend to be hunted (it's ok she probably has protective clothing or can just easily regenerate in the case of her biomutant variant lol). alcina isn't keen on the idea at first b/c it's Unladylike and what if her immaculate castle gets trashed and-

More self-ship art of me and Ford! One thing we have in common is that we're both aliens who are stuck living on Earth!

He originally comes from a planet orbiting Betelgeuse and came to Earth to write for an interstellar travel guide only to find himself stranded on the planet. I am a starsinger, which is a type of alien from my system's "lore" (so to speak) that starts as an incorporeal consciousness that originates in space, is drawn towards planets with music, and takes a form based on a song it eventually hears! (Mine was "Never Let Me Down Again" by Depeche Mode.)

Due to the differences between our species' expectations for life, we have different feelings about living on Earth, where he is much more distraught about it than I am but also has some hope of someday leaving, whereas I accept the state of things and don't expect to ever step foot on a different planet. However, we both feel a great disconnect from Earth and wish we could live in space instead.

When we first meet each other, we assume the other is human (albeit both of us having a very strong interest in space), but we eventually tell each other about our extraterrestrial origins and bond over that. If we have to be stuck on this planet, we can be stuck there together, and if we ever get a chance to travel outside this solar system, we can travel together too.

To me, shipping Vapor Ghoul (my Ghoulsona) with Copia isn't self-ship, it's OC x Canon, but I recognize this is basically equivalent to self-ship to some people so I guess Copia's an F/O now??? This is fun!!

Me and Ford again!

This isn't the identity that fandom tends to write him with, but in my self-ship, Ford Pref.ect is a neutrois quoiromantic asexual gay man, a characterization that is influenced by my status as such. I - or at least the original host of the system (with whom I have this identity in common) - often explore my/its identity through this character.

The thing is, though, our version of them is a "neutrois quoiromantic asexual gay man" in the sense that they're an alien with an AGAB that is best described as neutral and finds himself perceived as a man as well as attracted to men. There are, however, situations where he cannot tell if his feelings for someone is romantic or not, and he comes from a culture that values platonic relationships more than human societies tend to.

With regards to this perception, he's fine with it and even comes to personally identify with it, but he simultaneously still identifies as the alien gender as which he was raised. With regards to this attraction, he's only ever been attracted to other gender neutral aliens before, and part of his identification with masculinity/being a man has to do with his attraction to men feeling same-gender like his attraction to people who are the same gender as which they were raised.

This was going to be explored through a fanfiction series we were writing, and if we do get back to writing fic for his source, those themes will still be in it, but for now I'm mostly just exploring them in my self-ship!

My relationship with them begins as a regular platonic friendship but with cuddling, and I'm not sure if it ever becomes romantic or not (the answer to that question is dependent on the answers to questions about my identity and needs that I haven't answered yet).

But I like thinking that it really doesn't matter if it ever becomes romantic or not, and either way, the most important thing he is to me is my friend.
