â even the gods bleed [ pt 3 ]
{â} characters neuvillette, wriothesley, furina {â} notes cult au, imposter au, multi-chapter, gender neutral reader {â} warnings none {â} word count 1.9k {â} previous [ 1 ] [ 2 ]
Wriothesley was not a man of superstition. He did not kneel at the altars until his knees bled, he did not pray until his voice gave outâ he did not, contrary to popular belief, suffer divine punishment for his apparent lack of respect.
After all, what Divine would look so deep beneath the waves just for a glimpse of the sinners that inhabit it?
Not them, evidently.
He hadn't slept in the past four days, though. There was a heavy air of something where ever he walkedâ it followed him like a thick fog, lingering and choking him until it dragged him to his knees like a chain. His thoughts inevitably linger on the striking, extravagant letter so conveniently adorning his desk at the fortressâ the broken wax seal, the letter tucked into his pocket.
He'd recognize the seal of the Iudex any day. Wasn't often he spoke to himâ but the shaky, distorted words hastily etched into the paper made him pause. Neuvillette always had a steady handâ elegant, flowing script that him of flowing water.
It had kept him up for days.
The implications were..haunting. He'd poured over the letter for hours, illuminated only by faint light of his desk lamp. Yet no matter how many times he tries to see what must be hidden beneath the ink, the paper itself even, he finds nothing but the shaky script of a request that sends a bolt of pure frost through his veins.
He noticed, of course, the odd goings on of Fontaine. He'd heard vague whispers of the Divine's hunt for the imposterâ he'd heard, too, of the ceaseless rain pelting Fontaine until even he wondered if the nation would finally sink beneath the waves.
It didn't, though. And that only made it all the more odd. Days of constant rain, just for it to stop suddenly..he tugged his coat tighter around him, throwing up the hood of the cloak clasped even tighter over it with a grunt as he leaned around the corner of the alleyway.
He didn't believe in superstition, but this was too hard to ignore as a simple weather anomaly.
Maybe that was why he ignored his gutâ he knew that this was probably a trap, at the very least it was suspicious. But damn it, he couldn't ignore the instinct to follow the only lead he had.
His boots clicked against the rain stricken streets as he stalked through the shadows, mindful of the clinking of machine patrols just a few streets away. Yet every step felt heavier then the last as he took a long, good look at the Palais Mermonia. He almost considered bringing out his gauntlets, but he thought better of itâ if it came down to it, he needed information. And he would need whoever was waiting for him alive for thatâ the dead don't speak and all that.
The letter's directions led him in a..rather roundabout entrance to a secluded room, evidently, as he lifted his hand and quietly knocked against the door. Two rapid knocks, pause, another knock, pause, four knocks. It doesn't take long until he hears the latch of the door unlock.
The leather of his gloves creaks as he clenches his fists, adjusting his stance. He's ready for a fight, if he must, but as the door quietly slides open he feel the weight on his shoulders relax slightlyâ the familiar, sharp features of Neuvillette meets him. He almost reflexively smiles at the way his pupils turn into thin slits, a momentary surprise that he quickly hides well behind a cough and the creak of the door as he pulls it open fully.
"Wriothesley. I see my letter has found you well. Please, come in." Polite as ever, Neuvillette steps aside to let him in, but he can see the exhaustion lining his featuresâ the bags under his eyes aren't as well hidden as he thinks, at least to him. "Bit odd to be inviting me all the way out here in the middle of the night, don't you think?"
His tone is smooth as he steps into the room, brushing down his hood and glancing at Neuvillette over his shoulder, watching as he shuts and locks the door behind him.
"I apologize for the..less then ideal circumstances, but I'm certain you will understand when you see for yourself." He wants to retort, but the Iudex beats him to it, vaguely motioning to the room behind him. An invitationâ but he wonders if it's worth taking.
His gut says no, but he's feeling a little risky today, he supposes.
He turns back slowly, barely able to make out the two figures he'd missed on the first glance on the other side of the roomâ though it's hard to mistake the flourish of the Hydro Archon, even in the dark. It's the other figure that makes the breath hitch in his throat, though.
Or maybe, more accurately, it freezes. So does his blood, his whole body even, locked in stasis for a long, tense momentâ he can't see them clearly, but his instincts are going haywire. He can feel his vision almost rattle where it rests against his left shoulder, cold leaking through the layers of clothes and into his skin until he has to fight to suppress a shiver.
He'd always fancied himself the hunterâ he was the one who dealt with unsavory folks, in the end. But he felt like a rabbit pinned beneath the crosshairs of a gun this time. He could almost feel the teeth of the bear trap snapping shut around him, crushing bone and flesh beneath cold metal.
For a long moment he thinks he feels fear.
And with a sharp click and a burst of light, it's gone and he takes a raspy, choked breath as he blinks away the blurriness in his vision, taking in the room illuminated by the lamp.
He's not sure what he sees is better, though.
Because his body knows that their Divinity is as real as the blood running through his veins.
So why do they remind him so much of himself? Why does he see the look of the boy who died in a pool of blood not his own in them?
It is a sick, cruel kind of familiar.
Wriothesley didn't believe in superstitionâ but that was born of the unknown. He knew, now. He could reach out and touch the truth with his own two hands.
The throne of the world was a lie.
The thing sitting on it bled red. And if it bled, it could die.
He clenched his fists tighterâ and released, letting his shoulders slump with a huff and a half hearted chuckle. "I wasn't expecting you to be in possession of a wanted criminal when you sent me that letter." He could see the gears whirring in their heads, the subtle dampness in the air reminding him just how delicate a situation it truly was.
He wasn't particularly inclined to getting blasted by a jet of water today.
"Relax, I'm not going to spill to anyone else. Seriouslyâ don't get my jacket wet. It's expensive and a nightmare to dry." His lips quirk into a half smile, but it twists into something almost genuine at the laugh covered up by a cough he hears from the Divine. Bingo.
"It's fine, Neuvillette. Let him go." Their voice is like honey dripping from their lips, and he has to close his jaw with his hand before they can see the way it dropped in his surprise. "Of course, most Divine. My apologies." He relaxes at the sharp click of his heels as he joins them on the bed, his posture far more relaxed then he's ever seen. The Hydro Archon, much to his confusion and amusement, is far too invested in playing with their hair to pay much attention to him now that things have calmed, evidently.
Huh.
They seemed pretty cozy about it, he noted. He guesses they three of them had some time to get acquainted.
"So..who's going to explain what the hell is going on?" He probed, crossing his arms over his chest and watching the three carefullyâ they all looked tired, but even through the exhaustion neither seemed inclined to stray too far from the Divine. "And what exactly your plan is? You can't keep hiding them here forever. Someone will sniff them out sooner or later."
"We are aware," Neuvillette interjects, lips pursed into a thin line and his thin brows furrowed. "But as I'm sure you've noticed, the hunt for the..forgive me, most Divine, but the hunt for the alleged imposter is still at it's peak."
He grumbles in acknowledgment, hanging up his cloak by the door and sliding out of his heavy coat, resting it over the back of a nearby chair. "Hm. Suppose that's why the patrols are so common now a days."
"I'm afraid so. As you can imagine, we cannot simply ask them to..stop the search. It would draw unwanted attention and suspicion. The Divine would be found immediately if we tried to bring them out of the city at the moment." Neuvillette added, looking proper and elegant, despite the circumstancesâ even in the face of the Divine and the Archon turning on him and tugging his hair into intricate braids. "So I hope you understand that it was a great risk to send you that letter."
He rubs his chin, huffing in amusementâ a solid plan, maybe, but his power didn't extend too far out of the Fortress. He had his connections, sure, but what use were they when he had to get the, uh, "imposter" out of Fontaine? Smuggling them out wouldn't be easy, and then there's the point of where to take them they'd have to contend with.
"Yeah, yeahâ I get it. But it's not like I can just smuggle them out or keep them in the fortress. Even if we got them out of the city, we'd have to find somewhere to bunker down, and if someone spots any of us lingering there.." Archons, what a mess he'd gotten himself into. He was really looking forward to the next time he could kick his feet up with a cup of tea.
"I understand. I have already made plans, in fact." Neuvillette hesitates, and he can feel the temperature drops a few degrees. "I..cannot share them in full at the moment, but it is not for a lack of trust." Neuvillette reasoned, hands folded neatly in his lapâ not that it hid the way they shook slightly. He wanted to ask, but he thought better of it.
"Eh, I don't hold it against you. The walls have ears, even up here." He deflected, running a hand through his hair. He really hoped Sigewinne wouldn't ask too much when he gets back. "I trust your judgment." He hesitates for a long moment, pulling out a simple, neatly folded letter of his own.
"Memorize the code words, then burn it. I'll be waiting for your next letter." He murmurs, plucking his coat and cloak and tugging them back on one after another, shuffling back over to the latched door. He hesitates again, his hand lingering on the door.
"I just hope your plan is worth the risk, Neuvillette."
He leaves before he can respond, the harsh click of the door ringing in his ears even as he steps back into the shadows of the night.

Spooktober. Candy.
Self-Aware! Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald x GN! Reader x Self-Aware!Saigiku Jouno
Description: You, Francis and Jouno make candies.
Warnings and tags: OOC. English is my second language. Fluff. Short
A/N: A short fic for a Spooktober.
_____
You have a feeling of déjà vu. The kitchen table, once again, was holding a mountain of ingredients. Near the window were stacked bags of sugar. Jam jars were next to bowls of fruits. Bottles of food coloring and small decorative wooden sticks were in a shadow of towering milk bottles.
And, once again, the perpetrator, Francis, stand in the middle of the kitchen. He clearly saw the expression on your face.
You weren't amused.
Trying to keep things cool, Fitzgerald lean on the table. For a moment, you thought, that you heard, how poor table creaked. Jouno hummed right above your ear.
"Believe me, [Y/N], it's not a hallucination."
Fitzgerald gave the hunting dog a nasty glare.
"And who asked for your input?"
Jouno ignored him. Instead, he turned his head towards you.
"Do you want to yell? Should I cover my ears?"
You elbowed him. Jouno hissed, not out of pain, but to slightly cheer you up. You were in a need of a good cheering.
"I don't want to yell, but I have questions. Francis, did you get carried away during sales again?"
Francis shook his head with a wide grin on his face.
"You can't be more wrong, My dear Treasure! This purchase was on purpose."
You looked at the table again. Despite the fact, that there is no such thing as "too much food" in a house, where 60+ people live, but in that case, there are too much food. There was no need for so much sugar, jam and milk. Only fruits will be eaten, before they become bad.
"Why." It wasn't even a question. You were tired, and you don't want to deal with whatever it was.
Francis looked proud of himself.
"Candy. We will make homemade candy for Halloween Season."
You slowly blinked. A random thought flashed in your mind, and, before you can think, you opened your mouth.
"Francis, if there is a problem with finances, and we need to start saving up... I have some spare money, so..."
"No!"
Jouno and Francis, somehow, covered your mouth at the same time. Both man looked worried.
"No." Francis repeated. "There's no need. Everything is fine with money. I just wanted to do something new."
Jouno huffed.
"He wanted to cook with you again, Firefly."
Francis glared at Jouno again. You carefully removed the hands from your mouth. You rubbed your temples.
"Just let me get an apron. Want to join us, Jouno?"
He shook his head.
"Why not.
_________
"Did we manage to do it?" asked Jouno, focusing on smells in the air. "Smells fine."
You bit your lip. Spiders from chocolate coated apple pieces looked like they wanted to be put out of their misery. Same for bat cookies... And for pan with dried sugar.
Francis coughed, but pick up one of the candies (that was supposed to be a skeleton, but instead resemble a Stay-Puft from Ghostbusters). Carefully, he ate it.
"Hmm... Not bad. Taste is fine, the looks are..." Francis waved his hand, trying to think of a right word.
"Questionable?" you took a spider apple, taking a generous bite. Yea, not a poison, you can eat.
Francis nodded.
"Yes, we will settle at questionable."
Jouno also taste one of the candies.
"Fine for the first time attempt." agreed he.
Now, you three really need to clean up the kitchen. Goncharov was very protective over the kitchen. Keep it clean, or you will face his wreath.

i don't think enough people talk about how the backbone of nie huaisang's plan hinged heavily upon jin guangyao's low birth, and the jianghu's willingness to dogpile on such people.
nie huaisang is upper class. he's specifically stated in the novel as behaving more like the idle rich than like a distinguished second young master of one of the five great cultivation sects, but he's still an heir by birth. even if nie huaisang had been more openly caught, who would do anything to him?
wei wuxian notices that bicao's testimony was bought with a few shiny baublesâ that nie huaisang was the one who bribed her with a nice bracelet for her testimony. he intentionally kept his own sect half dead, barely afloat for years, just to keep up the guise of an incompetent loser!
but the only actual consequence he's faced for such poor leadership that probably hurt a lot of common folks in his territory over 13 years is that people think nie huaisang is an annoying, useless crybaby. nie huaisang has a level of protection from consequences that jin guangyao had to fight much harder for (and that jin guangyao ultimately never truly got).
nie huaisang knew his own class and social position extremely well, and he knew how most people of that position behave and think. he was more than willing to use this in his revenge.
we know lan wangji is the type to use his wealth and position to do good for others. nie huaisang is the oppositeâ he's the type to use his wealth and position for himself and his own personal goals.
and this wasn't just something that started after his brother died! avoiding responsibilities, never carrying his sword, ignoring the fact that he wasn't honoring his sect or ancestors the way others wanted⊠his underground ring of selling porn as a teenager even got him out of the worst part of the wen indoctrination camps, because he bribed the wen cultivators overseeing everyone else.
my point is, nie huaisang is self-aware enough to know he doesn't really ever do the "right" thing! at no point in the story does he delude himself or others with grand ideals of how one ought to behave. he doesn't care.
unlike almost every single other upper class cultivator in the storyâ jiang cheng, jin zixuan, nie mingjue, lan xichenâ who all think of themselves as righteous in a way, who are always able to justify their thoughts and actions, rarely if ever able to conceive of those thoughts and actions as flawed or wrong... nie huaisang KNOWS his own selfishness.
like lan wangji, nie huaisang recognizes that his class can easily be used as a shield to do whatever he wants. while lan wangji at worst uses this nifty privilege to silence people he doesn't like, refuse to explain himself in inconvenient situations, and bring wei wuxian along with him everywhere, nie huaisang uses it to shirk his duties for decades and tear jin guangyao apart in revenge.
jin guangyao being the son of a prostitute automatically amplifies bad rumors around him. bringing to light his incestuous marriage and the gruesome way he murdered his upper class father, however deserved, is obviously going to impact him in a way that someone higher class wouldn't be as hurt by. combining that with a final lie to get his sworn brother to stab him in a flash of doubt, and well...
is that good or righteous or just? no, of course not. nie huaisang doesn't spend any time pretending that his actions were conducted based on morality, or that he "had no choice".
nie huaisang just wanted to destroy jin guangyao, and damn did it feel good to finally do it.
#keri chats#nie huaisang#mdzs#mdzs spoilers#mo dao zu shi#Nie Huaisang Is A Callous Careless Self-Aware Rich Man Who Weaponized His Social Class Against The Guy Who Killed His Brother#I LOVE NHS SO MUCH OKAY BUT I MIGHT GO CRAZY IF MORE PPL INSINUATE HES RIGHTEOUS OR ''GOOD'' LOLLLL#i mean yea girlboss!! but i rly hope ppl r aware nhs is a man who's purposely written to embody the worst aspects of cultivator society.#also his plan was Not a deep orchestrated plot he outlined key points and improv'd that shit as best he could LMAO#also just bc NHS gets away with what he does doesn't make him morally grey. the narrative doesn't consider him a good person.#he's just the one who came out on top by the end of the book#other things: im sure ppl easily see why i'd consider jc jzx & nmj as not self-aware rich folks but lxc is a lot more subtle and#occasionally self-pitying in how he depicts himself and his clan to make them always conveniently seem like the good guys#even when he's recounting the story of how he +33 elders drew their swords against his injured stubborn younger brother.#if u read this whole messy unorganized post and my tags i love u. if u agree with me i Love u.

i gobbled and devoured the post imposter things. scrumptious!! but what if poor little xiao man feels guilty for hunting or scarring us in the hunt? and please donât feel obligated to answer, i know youâre busy
burden to bear
word count: 2.7k
-> warnings: spoilers for liyue archon quest, canon typical violenceâŠ. minor body horror? blood mention.
-> gn reader (you/yours)
taglist: @samarill || @thenyxsky || @valeriele3 || @shizunxie || @boba-is-a-soup || @yum1x || @esthelily || @turningfrogsgay
< masterlist >
during the hunt itself, xiao is driven by a need to prove himself, pushing past his instinct and the way his karma flares around the one on the throne. he sees it as a way to redeem himself, to finally scrape some of the sin off his hands. itâs a way to prove himself, and one he takes eagerly.
itâs not correct to say heâs blinded by faith, but itâs not exactly wrong either. he definitely feels, subconsciously, that somethingâs⊠off, maybe, about his god. perhaps itâs the way his vision always seems to flutter and flare, or the ice in his veins when the command to hunt is given. he feels uneasy, unsettled, finding himself rolling his shoulders and wondering if he needed to add more stretches into his routines. and yet, despite the tension in his shoulders and the twist in his stomach, he kneels, bowing his head with a swear of fealty that goes unanswered.
unacknowledged.
perhaps he had delivered it wrong?
he doesnât think much of it, quickly dissolving from the throne room and appearing besides the statue of the seven on the west edge of liyue. looking out over jueyun karst, he knows itâs a bit fruitless to start his search there due to the vicinity to the other adepti, but the spires there are tall, filled with wiry bushes and crags of rock that are easier to hide in than may seem at first glance.
he draws his pole arm, spinning it once over his hand before tapping the end to the stone beneath him. heâs not sure why heâs so nervousâis it the fact that this is technically the first order heâs been given? is it the idea of slaughtering somebody so identical to his creator that it nearly fooled morax, whoâs been alive longer than he could fathom?
or is it simply the prospect of failure?
xiao grits his teeth and steps off the edge of the floating stone, halting his fall with anemo at nearly the last possible moment.
his feelings meant nothing. orders were given, and he had to follow them.
why else was he there, if he couldnât?
it takes him longer than he expected to find you. heâs almost impressed, really, that you managed to evade his searching eyes, that you dodged not only him but the other adepti as well, all without taking refuge in any villages or otherwise civilized areas due to the orders the millelith put out. you hid well, he could attest to that, and though he was the one to find you, it was only on accident.
he was clearing out a group of hilichurls north of the inn. he was surprised so many had settled so close to the statue of the seven, as hilichurls usually avoided concentrated elemental energy, but didnât think too hard about it. he simply unhooked his mask from his belt, noticing the difference in strength between these hilichurls and the average, and teleported into the middle of the camp.
the first thing he heard was a spotterâs cry. the second was the mitachurlsââarchons, there were threeâroar as they hefted their weapons. the final one was the intricate chanting of the abyss, but not any incantation he recognized.
he kept himself half in smoke as he danced around the edge of the camp, taking out the archers while he tried to find the abyss mage. he could catch glimpses of hydro bubbles through the walls of the hut, but the steps were covered in frost-
he barely ducked under the swing of a mitachurlâs axe, slashing his spear along its side as he slipped away, darting across the path of one charging with a large stone shield. it clipped his shoulder despite his efforts, pain spiking down his arm, but he didnât pay attention to the injurh. normally he wouldnât be this distracted, but two abyss mages and three mitachurls in one camp could only spell bad news. the best he could likely do was to leave and grab back-up, but who? the millelith were busy, morax and the adepti were on their own searchâŠ
xiao quickly climbed onto the roof of the hut, jamming his spear between two of the logs to keep grip on the woven roofing. the grass was damp, squishing uber this feet, likely from whatever hydro magic the mage was busy with within it. it likely wasnât the smartest idea to stand on the roof, but this area of liyue was mostly plains, with little cover from the charging mitachurls. he needed a moment, if only a short one, to hash out a plan to deal with the camp.
the three mitachurls were standing besides the hut, two with shields and one with a crackling axe, electro dancing along the blade. xiao shifted, pivoting around the peak of the hut to move away from that one, the grass roof squishing below his feet.
the mitachurlâs ear twitched.
he shoved himself off the roof just as the mitachurl slammed the flat of its blade onto the roof, the whole shack shaking. electricity swarmed across the waterlogged roofing, reaching the opposite edge just as xiao dropped off it, landing between the other two mitachurls. they didnât charge, nor attack, their motivations only made clear when the hiss of cryo froze out the lingering moisture in the air in front of him, effectively boxing him in.
the abyss mage swayed in its circle, staff glowing a sharp blue from within its bubble of frost.
âleave, adeptus,â it hissed, waving its staff in a circle. âyou have no place here.â
xiao didnât reply, instead picking apart his options. he couldnât do significant damage to the shield mitachurls without utilizing his burst to destroy their shields, but that didnât cover the mage at all⊠and he was still wet from the roof, so the mage would be able to freeze him within the time he had drawn in enough anemo energy to wield his mask with any level of efficiencyâŠ
he flexed his hand around his polearm. how had he gotten into this situation? his only options were to get lucky or teleport away, but even the latter of those relied on the first.
luck. how useless was he, to rely on luck-?
ââadeptusâ?â
the abyss mage startled at the voice, the cryo it had been swirling dissipating. both he and it turned to the side, to the entrance to the hut, where a figure could be seen just beyond the mitachurl.
his first instinct was that it was his god, and he briefly relaxed under the knowledge that heâd get out of this in mostly one piece.
his second was to recognize the torn clothing and dirt-smeared skin, and realize that you could never be his god.
xiaoâs eyes narrowed, his spear twisting towards you faster than the distracted mage could react. you, his target, the one he had been seeking out, were hiding behind the abyss. he should have expected it, in truth, figured out the one known for going against the rules of nature would side with the most unnatural force, but that was not for now.
not now, when he was launched forward by the power of anemo, his spear driving him forward, barely skimming the mitachurl in favor of his true target: you.
your eyes barely had the chance to dart in his direction.
xiao was, in truth, not the first one to see you.
many villagers had glimpsed you running around the outskirts of their villages, plucking apples and sunsettias off trees and taking mint from their gardens and leaving bundles of sweet flowers behind instead. theyâd seen you, face half-covered in a poor mask made of scraps, your clothes that of the haphazard stitches of the hilichurls, which helped you blend into teyvat a bit more at the price of comfort. many had seen you and assumed you were a run of the mill thief, perhaps one taking advantage of the current hunt since the millelith were occupied. they wryly called you clever, warning the traveling merchants about you, the one they glimpsed at inane hours of night.
he wasnât the first to see you, by far. he was, however, the first to recognize you.
he was the first to lay eyes upon your form and realize the truth, to realize that the blood seeping into your clothes was the color of stars and galaxies, to recognize that your heart beat blue.
the argument could be made that the hilichurls were the first, or perhaps the mages that had taken you in and brought you food, but it was not them that gathered you into their arms and whisked you away in a flash of teal, uncaring of the spike of cryo that drove into their side at the last minute. the hilichurls did not walk with frosted-over limbs, the abyss did not cry with a throat full of ice, calling for assistance in undoing their own crime.
xiao couldnât decide whether it was lucky or not that baizhu was in the pharmacy, speaking with herbalist gui over the front desk. on one hand, it was best to have the most experienced healer in liyue at your side, but on the other..
âadeptus xiao, what is-âŠ..â
confusion, then anger, then realization, all flashing over his face in an instant before he tilted his head and walked quickly to a back room, xiao following.
he busied himself with picking the ice off his body and clothes, ignoring the shake of his hands and the stench of blood in the room. the mage had pulled you from the point of his spear, but he still hit the side of your stomach, and he could tell it was messy.
knocks sounded at the door but baizhu turned them away sharply, only allowing qiqi to pass him a bowl of lotus seeds. he was focused, changsheng slithering off his shoulders to grab supplies as needed. time seemed to slow to a crawl, like xiao had entered a domain without an exit, filled with the iron smell of blood and the never ending chips of ice he peeled from his skin. it left behind stinging wounds and red marks, but he couldnât find it in him to care.
what was his brief moment of injury compared to a scar upon his god?
the moment that baizhu had stopped, all but collapsing into a chair and wiping off his hands with a tired call of âitâs done. the foundation will be okay.â xiao had stood and left, biting his tongue through the protests of both his own body and the doctor.
heâd given changsheng his confession, but he did not wish to stick around and hear his verdict.
weeks later, morax came and visited him at the inn, carrying with him a plate of almond tofu and an apology. xiao leaned against the furthest edge of the balcony, curled around the plate, staying as far as he could from the one with your aura imprinted upon him.
he felt it, when zhongli had first come up the stairs. the shock, then the warmth, the all-encompassing comfort that soothed the pain from the bruising on his shoulder. he felt it, and knew that he did not deserve it.
âitâs not your fault,â zhongli insisted, baritone words colored with unreturned sympathy. âthe fake⊠had fooled us all. even me. i cannot hold your actions against you when i myself would have done the same.â
and maybe that was true. maybe he would have drawn his own weapon, pierced your skin himself, acting on the orders of one who dared to take the place of the divine, but that was irrelevant.
xiao was the one who had hurt you. and it was entirely his fault.
almond tofu, his favorite dish, tasted bitter and sour on his tongue, almost akin to the pain medication that zhongli had made him drink after noticing how cautious he was with his injured arm. heâd made him take the first dose in front of him and swear to take the rest, with a long monologue about taking care of himself tacked on afterwards, but it was for nothing. aside from the first night he had it, xiao hadnât touched the bottle. it sat on his nightstand, beside a bed he hardly used, taunting him when he returned earlier than usual.
he could take it. there was nothing stopping him from doing so, and he probably should if he wanted to return to his duties quicker. but every time he picked up the glass, thumb tracing over the engravings as he undid the top, he hesitated.
he could take it. he probably should. but did he deserve to?
you were still recovering, possibly still bedridden weeks later. your blood still stained his spear, dripping down to his palms, pale and scarred skin marked further with the blue and purple swirls of his sin. you were still in pain, still healing from a spear to your side, and he was here, reaching for medicine for a sore shoulder?
(it was worse than that. bone had knocked against bone, bruising beneath where muscle could reach. it ached even when he sat as still as possible, dragging him out of every attempt to meditate. the dark purple splotches stretched beyond his clothing, reaching across his back and up his neck, making nearly any action flare the wound. it was far beyond an over-exerted muscle or a particularly tiring day, and yet even the worst nights of his pain were staved off by the memory of having to wash blue off his blade. even as the latch on the bottle was undone, the lip pressed to his, he could never bring himself to drink it)
(even the small droplet of it on the rim, tasting of qingxin extract and violet grass, threatened to make him sick. how dare he?)
yes, it would likely only get him into more trouble were he found out, but he was careful not to be. whenever the wind brought him the heavy presence of geo, zhongliâs familiar footsteps climbing the stairs, he snatched the bottle and emptied it into the stone carving on the balcony, letting the medicine soak into the soil beneath it. it splashed when he was sloppy, the deep purple medicine appearing blue on the stone, sparking a memory that weighed harder on the pit in his stomach.
even as he handed the bottle over to zhongli, his jaw clenched from the strain on his shoulder. the action was stiff, jerky, but evidently smooth enough that it had passed his assessment.
zhongli tucked the bottle away, surprisingly not drawing out a new one.
âi am proud of you, and of the progress you have made,â he said, golden eyes softening in the light of dusk. âwell done, xiao.â
how strange, he thought, watching him leave, that the very action that made his vision swim with unshed tears was one that was praised.
he wouldnât complain, of course. he never would. this pain was his to bear, just as the burden of your bloodshed was his to shoulder. he was well aware his pain could never take back yoursâthough he wished, desperately, that he could move your injury to him. he wanted to be able to take on the physical reminder of his defect, to take the hit of his own spear to spare you from his lapse in judgement. he would take it, take ten times the pain you endured, if only it meant that your skin was free of his scars.
it would be an honor to assist the divine, even at the price of his own life.

Mora makes Teyvat go round
Self-Aware! BSD x SAGAU Imposter crossover
Self-Aware! Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald x GN! Reader
Description: Ningguang and Pantalone are proud of being of Creator's good side. With power of mora and buisnesses, they will gain more strength, gaining even more favours from Creator to their nations.
Unfortunately, mora is low due to attacks on caravans.
But, this new possible partner, who wants to offer organise trades between nations, peak their interest.
Warning: OOC. English is my second language. Slight mutilation (non-descriptive). Dehumanisation (Reader called 'it'.
______
Mora is stability.
Mora is power.
Mora is respect.
People need mora to get food, clothes, houses. Everything.
People need mora to build shrines for Creator.
Ningguang and Pantalone use mora to give Creator respect and happiness.
______
Pantalone's eyes twitched.
Another ship was sailed, another caravan was attacked.
And nothing can be done about it.
Dottore tried. And look, where he is now? Went completely mad, tried to kill Creator, and now is locked in a cell.
It became another hit on Snezhnaya's reputation in the eyes of other nations.
And in the eyes of Creator.
Their Holiness, after Dirty Imposter disappeared, were wrecked with sorrow.
Each day, nations brought gifts to the ivory throne.
Each day, people were searching for an Imposter.
Both of these actions were focused on bringing back Creator's smile.
And both actions required mora.
Mora, that Snezhnaya start becoming low.
Pantalone breathe in.
The situation was bad.
Yes, he has enough mora to spoil Creator for the next hundreds of years.
Yet, in this situation, he needs more mora.
Much more.
Pantalone looked at the pile of open letters he had on his table. Offers, coming from different groups. Travelers, mercenary, wanderers.
All of them offered their help in moving goods from nation to nation.
All of them failed.
Pantalone took another unopened letter.
He read through it.
Another offer. And he has no other choice, except it.
__________
Ningguang read through the contract one more time. It was written on a fancy paper with an ornament around the edges. Pantalone, who was sitting next to her, read through his own contract.
Pantalone spoke, looking at possible businesses partner above glasses.
"I must say, Mister Fitzgerald, it's quite an interesting offer."
Blonde businessman smiles politely.
Pantalone cast an interested gaze on the gems, that were laying in the middle of the table.
Gems looked stunning. They looked almost perfect, they varied in sizes.
"Are you sure, that you could transport all the goods safely? You are aware of the situation, right?"
Fitzgerald took one of the gems.
"Mister Pantalone, Miss Ningguang, I assure you, My Team and I are more than capable of doing it. As you can see."
Fitzgerald pointed at the gems. "We have this gems here. From Fontaine. And we did a great job transporting them."
Pantalone and Ningguang looked at each other. Everyone said that. Everyone failed. Ningguang and Pantalone don't have any other choice.
Ningguang spoke.
"True. Let's try to do it. We spent a lot of mora on the Imposter Hunt. All these rewards and mercenaries."
Pantalone chuckled.
"But it was worth it. I even got a precious relic from it."
There were envy in Ningguang's eyes. She also has a little souvenir from the Hunt. Yet, in comparison to Pantalone's, her trophy was simpler.
"Anyway, It's a deal, Mr Fitzgerald."
Both contracts were signed.
Francis broke a tree trunk, when he left Liyue.
Pantalone lost a lot of jewelry because of it.
_______
The first trade was from Liyue to Mondstadt.
If someone saw a new trade caravan, they would think, that they have gone mad.
First, instead of a horse or ox, a white tiger was (somehow) harnessed to the cart. Atsushi chuffed from time to time, but did his job perfectly.
Fitzgerald was walking beside white tiger, looking around. He spoke out loud.
"Look, Weretiger boy, a dangerous monster."
Francis points at the hydro slime, that was more interested in berries, then caravan.
Meanwhile, Francis activated his ability.
"This beast can be defeated only with 100000000 mora punch. Mister Pantalone and Miss Ningguang were so generous, agreeing to give away all their mora, all their possessions to us, right?"
Atsushi scoffed.
Fitzgerald's punch left just a few hydro droplets from the slime.
Somewhere in Snezhnaya, in one of Pantalone's safes, 100000000 disappeared.
"We are saved... Oh, no! Another one!" theatrically gasped Fitzgerald, pointing at lizard, that was staring at the cart.
"This one is more deadly! I must double the effort!"
When the caravan arrived at Mondstadt (Atsushi turned back before someone could notice his tiger form), Ningguang's and Pantalone's safes became more spacious. And Teyvat wildlife get some damage.
______
Fitzgerald's plan was risky, to tell the truth. According to you and books Jouno and others have brought from Teyvat, there was only one language in Teyvat. At least, the only official language. There was no information, if other languages existed. But Francis decided to take this risk.
With some help from Poe, Natsume, Rimbaud and Fyodor, Fitzgerald created an 'ornament'. A synthetic language, that was made from mix of English, French and Russian alphabet and grammar. With Poe's writing, new words looked like an ornament.
The ornament, that proclaims, that person, who sigh the contract, will give away all their money and possessions to Fitzgerald.
And he has a nice little ability to use with new finance help.
_________
Francis stared at what was before him.
He proved, that he can be trusted. And, his businesses 'partners' show them, what their trophy's from the Imposter Hunt were.
_____
Ningguang had four bloodied canines....
****
Dirty Sinner were put in stocks in the middle of Liyue's Harbor. It looked half dead.
It wasn't enough. Tommorow it will be executed. It still have too much dignity.
Rocks, dirt, rotten fruits, manure...
Everything were thrown in Imposter.
It wasn't enough.
Ningguang stare at Imposter.
Its mouth were in blisters.
Its teeth were intact...
A dagger and her fingers weren't the best instruments for a dental practice.
But, Ningguang managed.
*****
And Pantalone had two pinkie fingers in the jar....
*****
It screamed, when its injured feet made contact with snow. Pantalone grinned.
He got a great trophy.
First one, who did it.
Soon, Imposter will lose even more.
Acolytes needs mementos from their great victory.
_______
Fitzgerald saw the mountains of gifts. Gifts for that beast, who ordered to hunt after his treasure.
And he, Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, must be the one, who delivered it.
Francis can't stay here. In Teyvat.
He needs some real world.
He hopped, that he would reached Lowecraft 'waiting' place, before the sunrise.
_______
Fitzgerald stumbled from the portal, back to their world. He wasn't looking, where he was going. He needs to see you. To make sure, that you aren't in pain.
"What have you learned about, Fitzgerald?" Yosano's voice was sympathetic.
Francis looked at her. She was waiting for his answer.
She was the only one, who knew everything about your injuries.
Before that night, Fitzgerald only knew about burns.
He finally found his voice.
"Teeth... Toes..."
His voice was muffled, when Yosano hugged him, pressing his face to her shoulder.
She let him cry.
________
Pantalone was happy. Fitzgerald did a great job. Trades between nations slowly start anew.
Slowly, mire mora will come to Snezhnaya and his vault. And he will spend it to make Creator happy.
Suddenly, his mansion starts shaking.
The next moment, Pantalone was sitting on the Shezhnaya's snow. His home was nowhere in sight.
_______
In Guyun Stone Forest some of the stone spears, that Morax threw during Archon War, collapsed. Fitzgerald was sure, that crystalfly was a dangerous predator.
________
Ningguang grabbed the table, trying to stay on her feet. She was having a conversation with other Qixing, discussing, what other things they could trade with other nations, to use new mora on gifts for Creator, when half of the pillars in Guyun Stone Forest collapsed. Before anyone could react, a second earthquake came, destroying the rest of the stone pillars.
Outside, people of Liyue saw, how Jade chamber disappeared right before the earthquake.
______
Fitzgerald saw a second crystalfly.
______
Both Ningguang and Pantalone have a headache.
They have lost their houses. And, somehow, almost all mora they owned. There were no sighs of treasure horders or weasel thieves. Both Ningguang and Pantalone knew, how to be careful with spending mora.
Yet, both now have one thousand mora each.
The knock on the door made Pantalone and Ningguang turned their heads towards the exit.
Baisi noticeably flinched. She looked terrified.
"We finished looking through taxes declarations... And..."
Baisi put the documents on the table and left.
In a few moments, two loud shouts were heard.
"WHAT DOES IT MEAN, THAT HALF OF TEYVAT POPULATION BECAME BROKE?!"
______
Spa was quiet. Spa was good.
And this spa was completely yours and Fitzgerald's for today.
Fitzgerald announced, earlier today, that you two will have a self-care day. And 'drag' you here.
You had some sweets prepared for you.p
"Now, try this, Treasure" Fitzgerald put a sweet roll right to your lips. You took a generous bite.
Francis secretly smiles.
All your teeth were intact.
He cast a quick glance to your feet.
Currently, you two enjoyed foot massage.
Francis smiles. Your pinkies were here.
He squeezed your hand.
And promised to himself, to keep you safe and sound. And make sure, that no one will even think about taking something from you as a trophy.
____
Bonus
You raise an eyebrow, looking at all the mora Mark, Steinbeck, Dazai, Anglo, Fyodor and Sigma brought in the house.
You took one of the coins. It glimmered in daylight.
Without looking away from the coin, you asked.
"Okay, I will ask. How?"
Twain looked pleased with himself.
"We rob one of the banks, that belonged to that one, in glasses."
Steinbeck added.
"Fitzgerald won't be the only one, who could rob Mr Pants."
Dazai looked extremely proud.
"Ango and I are scumming people. We put some fake donation boxes. People are glad to spare some mora."
Ango, who was counting mora coins, spoke carefully. He was looking at you, observing your reaction.
"We tell everyone, that this mora will be used for a new shrine."
You didn't need an effort to not flinch. You spent enough time with Hawthorne to stop flinching every time the topic of religion came up.
Fyodor spoke next.
"And Sigma and I created a casino. Cards, some machines with toys for kids. Some prizes are unique and appealing to many. And almost impossible to win. But, as you know, everyone wants to play again."
Sigma shrugged.
"The prizes for everyone were my idea."
You dropped the coin back to the pile. Your mouth moved, before you can think.
"It reminds me of an anecdote. Want to hear it? A funny short story?"
Everyone immediately perked up. They took it as a sign of your recovery. It was good, that you start recalling something funny.
"Okay, [Y/N], we are ready for the story!" Naomi pretend to be impatient.
Well, there is no going back. You cleared your throat and started.
"One day, American man, Japanese man and Russian man decided to have a competition and see, who will make cat eat mustard by its own violation. American man immediately grabbed a jar and force mustard down cat's throat."
"Hey, that's violence!" Russian man objects. âYou have failed!â
A Japanese man spread mustard between two pieces of fish and wrapped it in bacon.
âHey, that's a hoax!â Russian man objects. âYou have failed!â
âWell, your turn!â Japanese man and the American man grin.
Russian man, without thinking twice, takes the jar and smears mustard under the catâs tail. It, of course, immediately starts to lick mustard, trying to get it off. Cat licks and licks, even though she is yowling.
âDo you see that?!â - Russian man rejoices âVoluntarily and with a song!â
"You have an interesting taste in jokes, Myshonok." corners of Fyodor lips slightly raised up. On the background, Nikolai and Pushkin were howling with laughter.
Actually, everyone was at least smirking. Even Natsume look a little bit amused.
Francis scoffed.
He was making sure, that Ningguang and Pantalone will rot in slums.
And, it was a good thing, that no one would be able to help them.

I donât think Aaravos will have much use for Viren anymore (or for the time being at least!), but I believe that Virenâs not going to die.
This is due to the Discord S4 Q&As:
Mainly this, but more under the cut
From the Discord Hiatus Q&As, answered by Aaron Ehasz and Devon Giehl
The creators hint multiple times at more things in store for Viren: having a redemption arc (him using dark magic being a âbump on his inner journeyâ) and arc with Soren, with âtheir most meaningful interaction yet to comeâ over the last few seasons.
#As thereâs a chance we will find the truth soon at the panel this upcoming Saturday#I thought it was worth putting this out here. as I learned some peopleâ one of my mutuals at least#werenât yet aware of this information and itâs basically key to all my hopes lol#tdp speculation#tdpo q&a#tdpo#the dragon prince#self spaghettification#mine
