She manages to befriend people who are her outright enemies, manipulate her power hungry cousins to get her brother on the throne, and smuggle people across national borders just to arrange the marriage she wants. And, she does it all without anyone doubting her, and while being so incredibly fashionable.

Apropos of nothing... (not a hint or a spoiler, just a thought)

Eventually Seffie's going to realize that Tarvek snookered her entire "marry Gil, rule the Empire" plan out from under her, and god I hope I'm there to watch the dawning realization cross her face.

Like, I like Seffie for who she is. But I don't like her so much that I'm not going to enjoy the hell out of the facial expressions.

So this is far from the likeliest possibility for Seffie’s arc but the funniest option is definitely that she comes to terms with her sexuality before she manages to reconcile with Colette and also before she fully untangles out her Valois incapability to separate romantic interest from political opportunism and also her general Issues with pursuing the Most Romantically Unreachable Person She Can Find and so she moves on from trying to seduce Gil to spending like half an arc being romantically fixated on Agatha instead.

@elzerei-likes-girl-genius i keep writing a response to this because i love rambling but the seffie martellus bang analysis kept getting too too long to the extent where i think i keep missing the point

So heres something shorter

Seffie doesnt even register as an enemy at all, let alone an active one. She registers as suspicious BECAUSE shes a valois who is nice and not doing any harm, but theres 0 evidence of her being evil (loving her brother is the OPPOSITE of a crime), and her motives are not treated seriously to be considered by almost anyone (tarvek disregards them even after learning of them)

Seffie is no ones enemy or ally, but she is everyones friend. And that makes her very unique compared to the cases mentioned

Like the pov of most of agathas party is that seffie is a valois (red flag), genuinely affectionate towards her brother that is openly trying to murder them (red flag), enough to keep him alive (not exactly a red flag because hes her brother but is a really weird flag because shes a valois), has political aspirations (usually a red flag), and openly is aiming for political marriage with gil (a red flag to specific people), and frequently doesnt elaborate on her motives to most of the party (red flag im sure). And shes nice (green flag) but also too nice (red flag again)

Meanwhile literally everyone is like "oh, seffie? She's cool, we're going to the mall later"

Like shes actively classified as dangerous cause no ones clear on what shes up to and shes so disarming as a person that that must mean shes up to some suspicious buisness but also it doesnt seem like any of them actually give a shit

Well, we knew grandma was a social compettitor with Lu, so this is not so much a surprise (except possibly the hair color- much lighter haired than I'd have guessed),

but Seffie probably knew almost none of that

So a Girl Genius Scholomance AU is interesting to me because on a character level Agatha is El and Gil is Orion—Agatha very much eschews the path set forward for her as a great evil and instead strives to do the best for her and Her People (notably, she and El share the same “these people are mine, actually, and I will protect them” view of the world that slowly grows to encompass more and more people as time goes on), while Gil struggles to connect with others and is deeply unhappy when doing what is expected of him while eventually going ahead with it anyway. He also has the whole monster hunter vibe going for him. Admittedly, Gil doesn’t struggle in the same way with empathy and connection as Orion does. His is more based on second-guessing others motivations with him, and he does happily and easily make friends—it’s romantic connection that eludes him for the most part.

The fun part is, when you consider their backgrounds the connections to El and Orion completely flip.

Like, Gil and El both have a side of the family that they’re completely alienated from due to bad omens surrounding them, and they were raised in a non-traditional setting by a single parent who strives to do the Right Thing (Klaus and Gwen differ in how good they are at raising kids though lmfao). You can even draw connections back to alienation from their culture—El at least knows where her father came from and speaks the language, but Gil is completely divorced from his mother and doesn’t even know who she is. They’re both barred from participating in their culture for the same reasons they’re alienated from half their family.

Agatha and Orion, meanwhile, were both Created With A Purpose by mothers who range from morally gray to totally corrupt. They both struggled to behave like normal children, with Orion not understanding or valuing human social norms and Agatha’s spark constantly straining to break through. This caused frustration and concern from the adults and mentors around them, and they were both somewhat alienated from their peers. Ophelia and Lucretia both share a certain big picture way of thinking, though admittedly Lucretia’s motives are almost entirely selfish in nature (an interesting contrast with Agatha’s own selfish way of thinking!) and Ophelia’s are pretty damn selfless, though in a very fun way. Selflessness due to ruthlessness is a good way of putting it, and Ophelia very much plays the numbers game in almost the same way the Scholomance itself does.

I’m going to have to play around with this more, because I think the way things line up is fascinating.

I’m personally really curious to see how Seffie handles this, and which side will she end up on. I feel like Granma Terebithia will end up isolating herself from all her grandchildren by the end of this
