Game Development Overview:
Title: GTA: The Magic Kingdom Platform: PlayStation 7 Developer: Rockstar Games in collaboration with DearDearestBrands Genre: Open-world Action/Adventure
Storyline:
In GTA: The Magic Kingdom, players explore a dark, reimagined version of Disney's iconic Magic Kingdom. The world is divided into themed lands, each with its own rules and factions. At its core, the story follows a criminal protagonist who is embroiled in a high-stakes battle for power and survival within the kingdom's chaotic, secretive underworld.
The protagonist (you) is a mysterious figure drawn into the Magic Kingdom's politics, where a sinister force is using the enchantment of Disney’s original lands for darker purposes. The hunt for Bambi, who is rumored to possess extraordinary powers tied to the kingdom’s survival, becomes a central pursuit, while the player navigates treacherous alliances, heists, and confrontations.
Main Character:
Name: Maximus Dark (or choose your own name) Backstory: A former magic thief, Maximus was exiled from the underworld for crossing a powerful figure. Now, forced to work in the Magic Kingdom's black market, he must hunt down Bambi and unlock secrets from deep within the kingdom's enchanted areas. Maximus has a personal vendetta against the kingdom’s rulers, who wronged him in his past. Throughout the game, the player will uncover the protagonist’s lost memories and long-forgotten connection to the forest kingdom that Bambi hails from.
Motivation: Maximus's primary goal is to reclaim his lost power, discover the truth behind Bambi’s existence, and stop a powerful corporation that seeks to rewrite the very essence of the Magic Kingdom. As the story unfolds, Maximus will face moral dilemmas, where every choice shapes the fate of the kingdom and his own soul.
Supporting Characters:
Bambi - The elusive and powerful figure whose very presence is tied to the survival of the kingdom. Bambi is the key to restoring balance but is hunted by those who wish to harness their power for dark purposes. They are often seen as a mystical being, guiding the protagonist toward their true destiny.
Claire Jorif Valentine – An enigmatic leader of a rebel faction, Claire operates in the shadows, challenging the corrupt rulers of the kingdom. She provides Maximus with missions, allies, and sometimes betrays him to further her hidden agenda. A powerful figure in the underworld, she seems to know more about Bambi than she lets on.
The Enchanted Guardians – These figures protect each themed land within the Magic Kingdom. They could either be allies or enemies depending on how the player approaches them. The Guardians are immortal beings who represent the natural forces of the kingdom—ranging from corrupted versions of iconic Disney characters like Captain Hook, Maleficent, or the Queen of Hearts.
Tiger Lily – A key ally who once helped Bambi and holds secrets to unlocking the magical energies in the kingdom. She is on a quest to stop the dark forces from taking over the kingdom. As a supporting character, she aids in quests related to nature and magic and can unlock special abilities for the player.
Walt - A mysterious figure who seems to control the Magic Kingdom’s darkest secrets. He appears to have been a creator of both the magic and the corruption that now threatens the lands. Maximus will need to confront him as the story builds toward the final confrontation.
Gameplay:
Open-World Exploration: The game world is split into different magical lands, such as Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and others. Each land offers unique challenges, missions, and enemies. Players can freely explore these areas and engage in side missions while unraveling the main story.
Combat: Players can engage in both ranged and hand-to-hand combat, using magical powers, enchanted weapons, and advanced technology. The combat system is dynamic, blending traditional open-world combat with the ability to wield magic and technology.
Heist Missions: As Maximus tries to gain control of the Magic Kingdom, he must undertake heists to infiltrate high-security areas and steal vital items—such as keys to unlock magical areas or magical artifacts that help in the hunt for Bambi.
Choices & Morality: The game emphasizes player choices, with the narrative changing based on decisions. Will Maximus become a hero, villain, or something in-between? The relationship with Bambi and other characters is crucial, as decisions affect both alliances and the kingdom’s fate.
Stealth and Deception: Players can also use stealth to infiltrate the kingdom’s high-security areas or employ deception to manipulate enemies. Using disguises, magic, and technology, Maximus can change the course of battles or avoid them altogether.
Motivation of Player:
The player is constantly driven by the need for power, knowledge, and redemption. They must build their empire, uncover the dark secrets of the kingdom, and forge relationships with various characters—each with their own agendas. However, the hunt for Bambi represents more than just a physical chase; it's a quest for deeper understanding, as Bambi’s powers could either save or doom the Magic Kingdom.
Key Objectives:
Locate Bambi: The primary objective is to find Bambi before the forces of darkness do. Along the way, players uncover the mysteries of the forest kingdom and its connection to the greater magical world.
Restore the Kingdom: Players must gather allies, defeat corrupt leaders, and unlock ancient powers to restore balance to the kingdom. Each land requires the completion of key quests, often involving battles, negotiations, and solving puzzles.
Uncover Maximus’s Past: As Maximus’s memories return, the player will unlock hidden abilities and unique storylines. The past is filled with betrayal and secrets that will help guide the future of the kingdom.
End the Corruption: Maximus must dismantle the oppressive corporation that seeks to control the kingdom's magical energy. This requires sabotaging their operations, stealing key documents, and confronting their leaders in epic battles.
The Final Confrontation: In the game's climax, the player must decide whether to join Bambi in their fight for freedom or betray them to seize ultimate power. The fate of the Magic Kingdom—and possibly the world—rests in the player’s hands.
This game blends classic open-world gameplay with dark fantasy elements and a rich narrative, providing players with the chance to explore a re-imagined Disney universe full of intrigue, magic, and moral complexity. The pursuit of Bambi adds layers of mystery and suspense, making this a truly unique entry in the GTA franchise.
To project the potential success of GTA: The Magic Kingdom in 2025, we need to consider various factors including market trends, audience engagement, and the unique elements of the game. Here's a breakdown:
Market Growth for Open-World and Action-Adventure Games:
Current Trends: The gaming industry, especially for open-world games and action-adventure genres, has shown steady growth. Titles like Grand Theft Auto V, The Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk 2077 continue to drive demand for expansive worlds with immersive stories.
Projections: The global gaming market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 9.5% from 2024 to 2028. As GTA: The Magic Kingdom combines elements of beloved franchises (GTA and Disney), it could tap into both established fanbases, providing a unique mix of nostalgia and innovation.
Audience Engagement and Sentiment:
Nostalgia Factor: The reimagining of Disney’s Magic Kingdom with dark and mature themes will likely engage both nostalgic fans of Disney and mature audiences looking for an alternative take on Disney. This could boost both initial sales and long-term engagement.
Fanbase Growth: By 2025, your fanbase could grow significantly as the game's story unfolds. Assuming solid marketing campaigns and collaborations with influencers or streamers, you might see a steady increase in followers and engagement leading up to and after the game’s release.
Projections: Positive sentiment is expected if the game's unique blending of fantasy, technology, and dystopian elements resonates with audiences. Projections for engagement could range from a 15-20% increase in social media mentions in the first year after release.
Technological Advances and Game Development:
PlayStation 7 and Future Hardware: Given the expected launch of PlayStation 7 around 2025, GTA: The Magic Kingdom could be designed to take full advantage of next-gen console power. This will allow for an even more immersive experience with advanced graphics, smoother gameplay, and expansive worlds.
Projections: With the integration of next-gen technologies (such as AI-driven NPCs and advanced virtual reality options), GTA: The Magic Kingdom could have a 30-40% higher player retention rate due to these enhanced features.
Sales Projections:
Market Demand: Based on trends for similar games (open-world, fantasy, and action-adventure), initial sales could range between 5-10 million copies within the first year.
Projections for 2025: The game could potentially reach 15-20 million copies sold by 2025, depending on post-launch expansions, updates, and downloadable content (DLC). A strong, loyal fanbase built from the early adoption of the game could help push this figure higher.
Expansion and Future Growth:
DLCs & Expansions: By 2025, the game could see its first major expansion, adding new zones, characters, and stories to keep players engaged.
Projections: Expansions or sequels could drive continued engagement. This could result in an additional 10-20% increase in sales in the second year post-launch, especially if the game incorporates user feedback and evolves based on community input.
Marketing and Brand Partnerships:
Brand Alignment: With ties to Disney, GTA: The Magic Kingdom could attract partnerships, cross-promotions, and collaborations with major brands.
Projections: These collaborations could increase visibility, leading to higher-than-expected sales and engagement. With a proper marketing push and potentially viral content, the game's overall reach could expand significantly, especially if there are partnerships with influencers or Disney-themed events.
Summary of Projections for 2025:
Sales: 15-20 million copies sold globally
Player Engagement: 30-40% higher retention with the introduction of new technology
Audience Growth: Significant increase in fanbase with positive sentiment and engagement, likely 20-25% growth year-over-year
Brand Partnerships and DLCs: Increased revenue from post-launch content and collaborations
Overall, with the unique blend of popular genres and the anticipated growth of gaming markets, GTA: The Magic Kingdom could be positioned for strong performance by 2025, with significant growth in both sales and player engagement.

there are many things about hazel's povs that have an intensely de-racialized vibe to them (read: divorced from the black girl experience) but I think any black person will tell you that the most obvious sign is the complete lack of attention paid to her hair
like firstly:
she's from the 1930s her hair was definitely getting permed and straightened (it was not acceptable to just wear your natural hair out back then. optics + cultural assimilation/you'll be hard pressed to find photos of black american girls with unstraightened hair in that time period unless they're from like..... harlem)
I do believe that marie was straightening it for her For A Time but then she became more neglectful and stopped so hazel had to do it herself. I'm almost positive that hazel wouldn't have even been permitted to set foot in her school building without straightening it because that's just how much of an expectation it was
ok she comes back from the dead. what's she doing to her hair now bc it's not just gonna be cutesy effortless curls falling over her shoulder no matter what the length is
how does she feel about living in a time period where natural black hair is more accepted (read: more, absolutely not fully)
there are no black people around her At All. in fact she's around a lot of white people on the argo (+nico) so that would probably be giving her some intense feelings of double consciousness (look this term up if you don't know what it means) and that would inform how she feels about her hair
theoretically she ought to be wearing her hair in braids for simplicity's sake but I think it's more likely that she would cling to what she knows (perming/straightening) because it's not easy for a 14 year old girl (PSA hazel is 14.5 in hoo not 13 btw 👍) to go from assimilating to deeply-ingrained white hair beauty standards to just proudly wearing a distinctly black hairstyle all by herself
mind you black women and girls can do whatever they want with their hair and straightening/perming it does not always/have to come from a place of self-hatred or whatever but in this particular case back then straightening one's hair was political And a survival tactic. it was as normal as brushing your teeth. it was enforced through dominant cultural messagings about the Absolute Necessity of conforming to white conventions of beauty. if you don't understand then think of it similarly to how you'd think of 1930s women needing to be perpetually dolled up and modestly dressed in order to be considered "good women" and anyways I'm just saying that this would be a lot to unpack for a 14 year old girl so hazel's probably just continuing to do this impractical thing (straightening her hair all the time) like 60% out of habit and 20% out of shame and 20% she doesn't know what else to do
something something about a missed potential character arc regarding all of this and in general there's so little mind paid to race in hazel's povs which is just ridiculous to me because a black girl from the jim crow era should have at least a few feelings about where she fits into modern society even if that society is camp jupiter. rick demonstrates his capacity to talk about how his characters feel about their race most notably in the kane chronicles so I don't think was too much to ask for. see this quote from an early son of neptune chapter:
^ like....... hazel's feelings of out-of-place-ness are There in the text and important to take note of when understanding her character (note that she's been there for like a year already and she still feels like she doesn't belong) but the emphasis is always put on her Being from a different time or Being undead and is never put on her out-of-place-ness regarding her race as a black girl from segregation times who is literally so out-of-place in this weird post-racial camp jupiter society. it feels like such an obvious thing to consider so its glaring absence really bugs me when I reread her povs and it bugs me when her hair is never talked about by extension because It Matters
you might be thinking "well she had a lot going on and she's not a superficial person maybe she just didn't care what was going on with her hair" and my response is simply that Black girls don't get to "not care" about their hair it is not the same thing as a white person going to school with bedhead it's not the same thing At All (if you aren't black then chances are you've never actually seen what untouched black hair looks like in the morning), especially when it's been beaten into your head for your entire life that your hair is ugly and you have to "do something to it" for it to be acceptable (and again...... she's from the 1930s so that feeling is magnified like 50x over). remember that perpetually dolled up modest 1930s woman I mentioned previously. picture her time traveling to camp jupiter of all places in 2010 and struggling to drop all of her makeup/hairstyling routines and internalized misogyny and conceptualizations of what women are "supposed" to be. this is the kind of fascinating character exploration that we really missed out on with hazel (and tbh regardless of her race she was never believably written as someone from the 1930s. I don't think rick even really tried to be honest)
you might also be wondering "how was rick supposed to know/attempt to portray any of that" and then my second answer is that If you're going to write a character who is not the same race as you then you should do some research and we have the internet now so research has never been easier 👍 this would be especially important to do if that person is a poc from the jim crow era I think! (he could have at least googled black hair 1930s)
anyways what I choose to believe (this is pure fanfiction) is that during hazel's first year at camp jupiter (remember that she was there for about a year before son started) nico would have helped her figure something out after observing her distress over her hair c: like they both secretly watched youtube videos on black hairstyles circa 2010 and then they got attacked by monsters for using a laptop (neither of them know how to use a laptop but he's trying his best for her) but then after killing them he helped her do her hair as something she likes that is easy to maintain <3 (I could also see reyna doing this because she surely knows a thing or two from her spa days)
#the descriptions of her hair are very few and when they do occur they're pretty nonsensical/I can tell how reserved rick is being#unfortunately there's a lot of room for plausible deniability because demigod phenotypes don't need to make sense#she has natural cinnamon toast hair and gold eyes so it's just like (throws up my hands) Whatever#but is plausible deniability more interesting! I don't think so!!!!#whatever#one of my favorite things to think about is hazel potentially seeing other black people at camp jupiter#and having really confusing feelings about that because her death is 100% a secret she can't tell them where she comes from#like can you imagine#I love hazel to the end of the world but unfortunately I think she's the most thoughtlessly written main character of pjo#you can't give your character THAT crazy of a backstory and then fall so flat on exploring it man#but I see her potential so she is very gorjus to me#hazel levesque#nico di angelo#pjo hoo toa#underworld siblings#percy jackson and the olympians#the son of neptune#rr crit#<- tagging that just in case but also I am being pretty critical of rick here so I guess it's justified#heroes of olympus

Happy Holidays @animatedanalysis! I'm your secret Santa, and here is your piece featuring Tiresias! I hope you enjoy it, even if Grammarly says it's wordy :>
Seven.
Seven has been a recurring number throughout my life. Seven years I lived at Hera’s will: a woman, her priestess. That curse only brought more upon me, and her husband compensated with seven generations’ worth of life. Drawn out, as I was, the rage of the sons of seven heroes did bring me to my demise.
Even in death I cannot escape the number. I underestimated my own longevity.
Death is a strange phenomenon. I hardly believed it when I passed. My daughter must have buried me well, for my journey was paid for- to the Asphodel meadows, but a shadow of the vitality I’ve witnessed. In spite of it all, I retain my sentience; I retain my powers. I retain the ability to condemn any mortal to their destiny.
It was my belief the Fates cut one’s thread for permanent repose. I am animated still. My career is a reluctant one. Have I no rest?
I looked up at the sky- it's a watery sky. I am the only one who notices the flickering light. It is dim and cold. I heard the sound, yes, you called my name. I knew it before the summon. Your rowing was not subtle. Yet I did not even have to drink your sanguineous sacrifice.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
Six.
Seven drops of blood.
Neither man nor mythical.
Those were bold words. Perhaps you are something of a seer yourself,
King of Ithaca.
“I am the prophet, with the answers you seek.”
If seven was a curse upon me, I fear I may have passed it onto you. Your mentor, Pallas Athena gave me augury. But what use is that now? Birds do not sing down in the underworld; I doubt I should hear the feathered voices ever again.
The Thunderbringer Zeus, perhaps had the same foresight he gifted me. Ironic. The same Lord who doomed your morality lends me the power to warn you against its downfall. You are his daughter’s favored, and his brother’s despised. What an intriguing solution he has had us entwined within.
“Time- I've unlocked it.
I see past and future running free.”
Your fate has been threaded. Unchanging, unflinching as the Earthshaker Poseidon's furious pursuit. I can only speculate if your sins do you well. In another time, perhaps I speak definitively. In this, I am better known for my hesitancy.
“There is a world where I help you get home;
But that's not a world I know.”
Shreds of his father Kronos linger here. I do not equivocate without reason. My words are cryptic. Intentional. Seven lines? Far from it. I shall add a few more, the number be damned.
“I see a song of past romance.
I see the sacrifice of man.
I see portrayals of betrayal and a brother’s final stand.
I see you on the brink of death.
I see you draw your final breath.
I see a man who gets to make it home alive-
But it’s no longer you..”
Though I suppose that shan’t help, you are already chained to the sentence; bruised by it.
Seven years with Calypso.
I’ve lived seven lives at a stretch, but it could never wipe away the memory of change. The separation from self. I pity you. No, I dread your island cage for you. My mind may be fractured by the weeks I’ve spent in fragmented realities I don’t quite recognize- but this remains constant.
The identity crisis is nothing short of insanity. One attains the helplessness of a phoenix. One becomes as intimate with power as ash.
Provocation. Patience. Perspective.
How come you introduce yourself as Laertiades?
Not father of Telemachus, as before?
Even now, do you truly recognize yourself in this crimson reflection? Your hands are stained as is.
“I'm just a man.”
Are you, Odysseus?
I've never known a man to succumb to such immorality. To be responsible for the death of an infant boy, prophecy-bearing or not.
Still, I suppose, it is the will of the Gods.
To force a wolf into a corner, to inspire it to lash out, to bite and claw… Only to stifle the action, muzzle the monster like a lesser canine.
Won't it howl?
It's a cruel punishment. Your heart and lungs are bound to give way. You will join the murky waters the ones you’ve slain now bathe in.
“I see a palace covered in red;
Faces of men who have long believed you're dead.
I see your wife with a man who is hunting:
A man with a trail of bodies..”
Goddess of wisdom, master of war. A familial messenger sent in her stead. The divine is a curious force. Pushing you down, lifting you up. The ocean’s buoyant waves do as much, bobbing along with the gracious wind.
Become what you must.
A ruthless monster. A beast unlike any you've encountered. A man capable of losing his fraternity, his humanity.
Seven years.
Six.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.
You are off.
Does this cursed number wear?
Odysseus shall sleep next to his wife.
Maybe then, I too will rest.

HAVE A HOLY JOLLY ITHACA SAGA AND MERRY CHRISTMAS to the lovely @sinonymous-story-ideas !! Here is my secret santa present to you: a look at Eurylochus in the Underworld! I'd originally planned for this to cover the underworld and thunder sagas, but got a little carried away with the writing and definitely won't have everything i planned done before the end of christmas, and I've kept you waiting long enough. I'll post a part two in the thunder saga when i write it!
This secret santa was organized by @epicthemusicalstuff, so thanks to them!
The darkness was thick and cloying, with mist that clung to Eurylochus with every movement like a rain drenched cloak, weighing him down and filling him with a chill that settled into his very bones. Frantic voices of the dead cried out to the crew from the river, reaching out to them and clinging to their oars every time they plunged them into the inky water, with grey hands so pale the wood grain could be seen through them. Eurylochus shuddered as he recognized individual faces, his brothers at arms he'd fought beside for ten years, only to have died in an instant as they made their way home.
I'm sorry, my friends, he thought as he rowed on. It would have been better for them to have died in battle, where their bodies could have been buried with coins for the ferryman, rather than lost to the bottom of the sea or in the cave of the cyclops. Though the figures that watched them from the river’s shores seemed little better off, staring blankly ahead, at least they did not scream.
“Hey!” He cried out, reaching forward to grab Elpinor’s arm, which he had extended toward the water below, as if to clasp one of the ghostly hands in his own and pull the lost soul aboard. “You know the orders. Full speed ahead.” The other man nodded, blinking as if coming forth from a stupor. “Full speed ahead,” he repeated as he picked his oar up once more.
Eurylochus did not know how long they'd been down here in the Underwolrd, where the minutes dragged as long as the shadows. Hours perhaps, or maybe days. Long enough that they had to rest eventually. Gods, they had to sleep in this place. They took shifts so they could continue forward
Sleep did not come easily, and when it did at last, it came crashing in with the waves of a wine-dark sea, with ship after ship in their fleet being battered to splinters. This time Eurylochus was in the water with his brothers, fighting to keep his head above the churning waves.
“Your fault,” they cried to him as one by one they slipped below the water. “Your fault!” Their accusations and their hands clung to him, weighing him down as he struggled to stay afloat. Why would you steal the wind bag when our island’s shores were so close? The words echoed through his mind as hundreds of hands grabbed at him, dragging him down with them- down, down, into the black. Eurylochus woke with a choking gasp, glad to feel the sturdiness of the ship beneath him. They rowed on through the gloom until at long last Odysseus called them to a halt. His friend looked as weary as he felt, and Eurylochus suspected the captain had been just as harried by the ghosts of their dead friends as he had. After all, who was more at fault for their deaths, the man who released the storm by mistake, or the man who had incurred Poseidon’s wrath to begin with?
“This is the place Circe described,” Odysseus told him. “Our journey is almost done.”
“Good. I'm ready to be free of this place.”
Ody offered a tired smile in agreement. “Make sure no one ventures off while I speak to the prophet.”
Eurylochus nodded. “You're not taking anyone with you then?”
“No, wait for me here. I'll return soon.” He hadn't expected any different. The king of Ithaca had a brilliant mind, but trusted no one but himself in handling matters such as these. Eurylochus could only hope this wouldn't be folly.
As his captain left to hear their fates, Eurylochus looked over their remaining men. Only 41 left, a mere fraction of their portion of the camps at Troy. They’d all endured so much together these twelve years, and the bonds that had forged between them were apparent as ever as the men rested. Some were quiet and somber while others- like Perimedes, who had stood up on a rock and was joking with wild gestures- remained in good spirits, despite their grim surroundings. Regardless of their behavior, no man was sitting alone. When Odysseus finally emerged once more from the mist, Eurylochus went to greet him and hear what he had learned. The captain was walking away from their men rather than back to them, and seemed to see right through Eurylochus as he approached. He didn't stop when Eurylochus called to him, only said, “Have the men wait here a while longer. There is one last thing I must attend to.”
“Captain? What did you hear from the prophet?”
Odysseus offered no reply, just continued sullenly along the river's edge. Dread sank its claws into Eurylochus’ chest. What had Odysseus heard that had him this way? He hesitated a moment, deciding what he ought to do next, torn between concern for his friend and remembering the last time his curiosity had gotten the better of him and he'd made everything worse. The captain had been acting strangely then too. Yes, he'd said what the wind bag was, but as soon as the whisper of treasure had entered their minds with the wind, he'd acted so possessive of it, staying awake far longer than any mortal man should- nine days by Eurylochus' count- rather than trusting his own second in command or any other to help him guard it. All he’d wanted was to know why the captain was being so secretive.
He decided to follow Odysseus in the end, if only to help ensure nothing happened. He hadn't exactly been given orders not to. He stayed well behind to not alert him of his presence. The captain didn't venture far before collapsing to his knees, the very picture of defeat. Odysseus always had a plan, was always moving them forward, even through the loss of so many men. Had the prophet shown him such a terrible fate that he'd lost hope all together? Eurylochus wanted to go to him, to offer whatever assurance he could. But he held back; what could he even hope to say? Before he could decide to go to him, Odysseyus stood and began pacing agitatedly. Eurlycus stepped behind a rocky crag to not be seen prying, but there probably was no need. The king of Ithica seemed in his own world, even surrounded by ghosts in the Underworld. He was talking to himself, too quietly to be heard from this distance. Eurylochus was releaved; surely this was the beginning of a brilliant plan developing, something that would get them home against whatever odds the prophet had foreseen. Perhaps even a god, like Athena or Hermes, who had spoken to Odysseus before, had made their presence known to him alone to offer guidance. Eurylochus backed away, not wanting to interrupt the captain at this time, now that he knew he was in no danger. Though, perhaps he was making excuses to himself. He returned to where the men awaited, checking in with them and making sure they were as well as they could be while the captain was indisposed. He kept a watchful eye on the path Odysseus would return from, to make sure he had a chance to ask what he needed from him. When at last he did step forth from the mist once more, this time back in their direction, Eurylocus was there to meet him.
“Captain, are you alright?” he asked, putting a hand on his friend's arm.
Odysseus' easy smile didn't quite reach his eyes as he replied, “Don't worry my friend, soon I will be home with my wife.”
Eurylochus bit back the question that came to mind as Odysseus made his way to greet their comrades: and what of the rest of us, Captain?
Odysseus gave a rousing speech before they parted from the land of the dead: about how he would get them back to Ithaca no matter the cost, how they would be ruthless against the enemies who stood in their way, and no longer let mercy and honor blind him to the threats against them. The men responded eagerly to these words, and greeted the journey ahead with renewed enthusiasm. Eurylochus was glad for the new direction, but could not help but worry for whatever had made Odysseus so despondent before this seeming change of heart. He could only his trust that his friend, his captain, his king knew what he was doing.

Epic Secret Santa for @falselyemmit
I was a last-minute addition to this secret Santa exchange, so I hope you enjoy! The following is a one-shot surrounding Tiresias vision and the prophecy given to Odysseus.
He knew the King would squint and his mouth gape when he proclaimed, “I see”. Since his life, Tiresias had been blind in life, and in death it had followed him to Hades. He knew by his staff he was on the edge of a precipice, and stretching before him: the ever-flowing streams of past and future, running free.
In the world above, no man, no god, no anything had ever believed his prophecy. No, only after they had come to pass. “There is a world where I help you get home.” the prophet offers. But the strands of time dance before him, and he can see that this King of Ithaca, like the King of Thebes before him, will not listen. “But that’s not a world I know.
Still, he describes the swirling waltz of events that play before him, for perhaps by telling this tale, the dance before him will shift again.
“I see a song of past romance,” he says, watching the King aboard his boat, conversing with a woman-like creature on a rocky protrusion. When six torches alight and six dark swirls devour them, he states simply “I see the sacrifice of man.”
The threads of past and future entwine, and Tiresias watches a gust of wind as it escapes from a sack cloth bag upon the ship. A sack, he notes, surrounded by a group that includes the captain’s first mate. There is crack of thunder, and two men face each other, swords drawn. Their faces are obscured, but he can only see that which pertains to whom he prophesies. “I see portrayals of betrayals and a brothers final stand.”
“I see you on the brink of death,” he says, watching an old man's chest raise sharply, then never again. A young man holds him against his chest, crying out. A spear, bloodied, lays asunder. A bloody mark mars his chest. The threads twirl away “I see you draw you final breath. I see a man who gets to make it out alive. But… it’s not longer you.”
And truly, it is not. Too much time has passed. This King still remembers who he was when he first sailed from Ithaca. A bright eyed, untested general not quite of three decades; now, nearer the age at which the prophet died than when he left for war. The King laments his prophecy, does not believe it. The streams twist and curl, and Tiresias tries to relay a different scene.
“I see your palace covered in red,” he foretells. It is a most vivid, bright red, bathing walls, floors, and everything else. Also covered are bodies, faces of men come to the castle. Assuming their King has joined the prophet here in the Underworld. “Faces of men who have long believed your dead!”
And suddenly, it is dark. Light glimmers again just as suddenly, revealing a feminine figure on a balcony. At it’s threshold, a man, trailing behind him a massive crossbow. In the moonlight, his visage is haunting - splattered with the red the rest of the bodies are drowned just out of the balconies view. “I see your wife with a man who is haunting. A man…”
He watches suddenly as the past stream cuts through the future, and violently there appears the legions, the 600 men under their King’s command. Another 100 or so join them, their bodies slain outside his purview. All even more haunting than the gaunt King they pierce with their stare. “...with a trail, of bodies.”
The King bellows, “Who!?!” Who might this be, sullying his wife? Tiresias shakes his head. The past and future slip apart again. There is a tinge of recognition in his breast. No. No.
No. He still does not believe him. No one ever has. He repeats himself as the same events play out: the King upon his boat, his brother opening some sack, an ensuing fight, the King’s final breath while his son watches.
But the King will not listen. He can see this too. As everything swims before him, twirling in sync once more, the Prophet can do only this: offer some signs. Signs perhaps the King will take heed of and obey.
Signs that might perhaps be enough to twist the fates again.
They flash before him like lightening.
Siren song.
Scylla’s throat.
Mutiny.
Thunderbolt.
Fight Poseidon.
Kill all the suitors for love.
And finally, rising above them all, comes a single, glowing eye. The event that set the King upon the path to him.
Polyphemus.
He can hear the shuffle of the King's sandals as he hurries back to his boat. No.
No. He will not heed his warnings. Not now.
But perhaps before it is too late.

title: so this is what the volume knob's for summary: "So he phones his shit in too if they’re not going to care. He spends a lot of time tracing the words carved into his desk absently, or staring out the windows now. He tries to get a seat closer to them, the windows, when he can, which is most classes except his English one. Mrs Woodcliff assigns seats alphabetically, and probably always has, far as Dustin can tell — there’s an SH WAS HERE!! carved into his desk in that class. He puts his notebook over that one, sits on his hands to stop reaching." One afternoon, in December, Dustin and Erica work on their character sheets.
excerpt: “Lucas is at a basketball practice, ugh, and Mom had a client need to reschedule for this afternoon so she’ll be at the office forever, and Dad’s in a war of attrition with the local squirrels, apparently.” She tosses her backpack through the window and into his chest, which fucking hurts, thanks, what does she have in there, bricks? “Also, Tina’s being a bitch.”
“And that’s my problem how?”
She hauls herself into Dustin’s open window now, rolling her eyes. “Uh, because if your problems are my problems, my problems are your problems. Also, you’ve been staring at the same page in that book for a worryingly long time; did you forget how to read?”
Now through the window, Erica strips off her jacket, flings it at his head too, but he ducks out of the way of that at least at the last minute and it lands on the back of his desk chair. She sits cross legged on his bed and holds out an imperious hand for her bookbag, so Dustin launches it right back. Embarrassingly, it does not hit her with as nearly as much force as it did him and she smirks at him like she knows what he’s thinking. He turns around to slam the window shut.

Romance Club MC's as Greek deities:
Vicky Walker as Persephone (or Kore):
Queen of the Underworld and Goddess of Spring ☠🌹🥀
In ancient Greek mythology and religion, Persephone (also called Kore or Cora), is the daughter of Zeus, the chief god, and Demeter, the goddess of agriculture; she was the wife of Hades, king of the underworld. She is goddess of spring, the dead, the underworld, destruction, life, grain, and nature. True to her double nature, Persephone was imagined as having two homes: one on Olympus with her mother, Demeter, and the other in the Underworld with her husband. According to Homer, she also possessed sacred groves on the western edge of the world, near the entrance to the Underworld. Vicky was chosen to be Persephone because of the dichotomy of her story - Heaven's Secret, choosing between being Angel and Demon, similar to Kore/Persephone who also has two aspects, both related to life and/or death.
