something nobody told me would happen as a result of editing the blaseball wiki is the amount of extra appreciation that I have for wikipedia.

obviously i already adored wikipedia, right - it's the closest thing we have to a single place to store the collective knowledge of humanity freely and openly, all that jazz. but the amount of work that goes into maintaining that knowledge is vast and the undertaking that website must be for it's moderation team is unfathomable.

but they've clearly spent the last two decades figuring out a process by which this stuff can be worked on. every page needs the same basic stuff, so they have a big task center where you can go to a random page lacking a basic feature (like categorization, for example) and add it yourself. that task center isn't just for basic stuff though- it's got everything, anything you think wikipedia editors need to do from formalizing the language to make the entire site internally consistent through to checking that any and all images posted to the site are legally able to be there, as well as conflict management by involving mediators or third opinions.

how do i know this task center exists? i changed a single spacebar on one page because it was nestled two references into a set of four and was annoying me, and someone on the site sent me a message welcoming me to the site and giving me some places to look to get started making heavier changes than a single spacebar. never let anyone tell you "anyone can edit wikipedia" again. these people are wild. /pos

there's also tools on wikipedia for how to actually use it and i've been rifling through their help pages whenever i need to figure out what something added to the blaseball wiki does, because adding to the blaseball wiki and adding to wikipedia is the same basic stuff just with different templates and styles and stuff. but those help pages are clearly written with people like me, that have no idea what they're doing, at least sort of in mind. it gives you tips on how to do it but also where and how it should be used to keep it professional.

i don't really have a way to sign this post off beyond "please thank the people who do the work to maintain wikis, especially wikipedia."

Anti-Ivy

Sam tried, she figured introducing her mentor to her best friend would be a good idea, Danny didn't have radical ideas or a green thumb but his heart was in the right place, that had to count for something!

Unfortunately Danny's ice core was not compatible with Dr. Pamela and her plants, as people they get along, they even liked each other, but the poor flowers could not stand subzero temperatures near the boy

So they made some kind of compromise, since Danny was temporarily living in Gotham they figured it was best to avoid every confrontation. Every time they saw each other on the street and Ivy was surrounded by plants, one of them would immediately leave the scene.

That didn't go unnoticed by the bats, but the boy wasn't doing anything wrong, maybe he was part of Ivy's past they didn't know about?

Dick started calling him "The Anti-Ivy" as some kind of joke, Jason followed naming him "Green repellent", and everything continued the same as always (with Tim freaking out because all the images of the boy were corrupted and his trackers were damaged the second it came into contact).

The assumption that they hate each other continued while the guy was on a girls night with Selina, Ivy and Harley.

Maybe one day the bats will notice they're friends, Selina bet they never would as Ivy waved her glass at Danny who sighed, poured a few ice cubes into the drink with Harley calling him "Portable Freezer" in the background. Sam was happy at least.

Glad You are Here: Nick Mason Turns 80

Of the five men who have been members of Pink Floyd, only one - drummer Nick Mason - has appeared on every LP released under the band’s name.

And of the three surviving members, only David Gilmour remains a relatively youthful septuagenarian, as Mason, born Jan. 27, 1944, turns 80 today.

The drummer was there at the beginning with Syd Barrett, the late Richard Wright and Mason’s fellow octogenarian Roger Waters. He witnessed Barrett’s departure, Gilmour’s arrival, Wright’s departure, Waters’ exit, Wright’s return and hung around from the Piper at the Gates of Dawn through to the Endless River.

Mason, who now anchors Saucerful of Secrets in revisiting the pre-Dark Side of the Moon catalogue, doesn’t sing and does very little composing. But just as the Beatles wouldn’t have been Fab without Ringo Starr, the Floyds wouldn’t have been Pink without Mason.

Shine on, you crazy drummer.

This was originally going to be a vent post but instead I'll keep it more positive - I just finished work on Clean and Light Blaseball, a light mode on-site that also removes a lot of the gradients that would otherwise look strange given their design for the site's base appearance.

From what I can tell of the site's code, maintenance of this sheet is going to be a giant hassle, so I'm still very much hoping we get a light mode built into the site sooner rather than later. That said, right now I believe I caught everything and if you need or want light mode until then I hope it's useful to you!

GOTHPOOL - Milo Mason Earth 138 - Hobie's Deadpool

Milo is a street kid through and through. He's been one all his life. All six years, that is. All six he can remember. He met Hobie at 13, when they both were just hungry kids living on the street and squatting in flats, and when they were hungry, they'd count out pence until they had something to share.

Now, they're both heros and roomies! (Although Hobie agrees with neither)

Hobie helped Milo transition, helping him steal his T shots when they were younger

Constantly mentions once being taller than Hobie

Has no pupils. If you ask, he'll act like he doesn't know what you're talking about. (There is no known explanation for this)

At 17 him and Hobie lost contact, with Milo going into a clinical trial with the promises of money and mental help.

Instead he got his healing factor

Him and Hobie reunited through 'Hero Work' - with Gothpool meeting Spider-punk

Only for Milo to immediately go 'No fucking way!! Talk again!! Hobie?? Hobie, m8 is that you? You sound just like this bloke-'

And Hobie had to be like 'Can you...not keep saying my name out loud.'

He thinks he lives at the houseboat, keeps breaking in and eating Hobie's heinz beans

Used to be vocals for the band in 138 (he can actually sing. unlike Hobie)

Hobie gave Milo his first T shot at 14.

Him and Diane do not get along well. She says Milo freaks her out. Milo doesn't know why she's so jumpy around gunpowder and lit matches - like calm down what kinda Spider-woman are you??

Clueless about politics, though Hobie tries his best to teach him. It's hard for Milo to grasp, and really easy for him to get frustrated, but he genuinely wants to learn. So Hobie is extra patient with him.

Even so, Gothpool is a CRAZY asset to have in battle. He may not know about systemic oppression but he knows that a bat to the forehead will knock a cop out cold

Mainly self-trained but highly skilled in fire-arms. Fights every battle like he's in a street fight outside a bar and he's ready for blood

His favorite food is a cheese toasty with marinara sauce and a root beer float

Also he's allergic to cats. He says he isn't but he is.
