how do you get your shapes and models looking so well?!?!? especially your pokemon renders they're amazing, i need to know your secrets if you're willing to share

Thank you! There's a few different aspects that go into making my stuff look "presentable," but I find that manipulating perspective while working on my renders plays a huge part in making them look better than they would otherwise, especially since I usually try to keep my poly count as low as possible. Since the majority of my 3D art is intended to be seen only from certain angles and doesn't have to be exported to a game or something where people could view them in full, I can take a lot of liberties with it. For example, here's a render from a few years ago (2022) that I still like:

Everything is made of very simple shapes cobbled together to look like something more complex when viewed from the intended angle.

The materials, shaders and post-processing effects used can really help things look more impressive, as well. I tried my hand at (partially) sculpting in Blender recently (based on this Pokemon trading card), and here's the result without any shaders or effects, and then fully rendered:

For this one, everything is still made up of relatively simple shapes, and the materials and lighting are doing a lot of the heavy lifting (if you're curious about my process for materials and lighting, I've posted about that a bit here and here and elsewhere on my blog).

But anyway, that's just my process as a self-taught hobbyist. Hope my rambling made sense!

I accidentally drafted this instead of scheduling it for the start of October BUT I wanna talk about the scrapbusting aspect of Sapphic September for me now it's done because it was really successful for me.

Oh to start, let me actually explain scrapbusting: it's going through your scraps/fabric pile and finally sewing the pieces you've stocked up there. Usually it's more of a quilters thing since they can much more easily use small scraps, but the term has spread through the entire sewing community now and I've also seen it used for finally completing projects you may have cut out but never sewn and such.

So a lot of my SS ideas came out of nowhere (what is Ritual. Like actually) but this event was also so good for convincing myself to finally do things I'd been holding on to forever and I wanna go over those! I'm also gonna include a little of AU-ctober/Sheratober in here at the end

highlights / fault lines (OotW) [teeth]: i have had the highlights document sitting in my WIPs folder for 2 years (Oct 2022), starting with the first paragraph in the second scene for the final fic, and then just a little blurb of what the fic would be about (adora struggling to adjust/with her depression after joining the rebellion to explore how unhealthy she managed to be in secret). when I started writing the teeth prompt, i wrote that first scene and went, wait, this could actually tie into that old idea, so i pasted it into that old doc and just went from there. I'm so glad to have finally gotten that idea out there and it was basically accidental lol.

Sickfic (the Greys) [UFO]: another file I've had sitting around for two years (Nov 2022), I wrote the first paragraph and then immediately switched over to what the first chapter of Recycled Stardust ended up being, the museum gallery opening. I was writing it for a friend who was sick, so "sickfic" made sense, but then I had the other idea and asked them which idea they'd prefer, and they chose the art gallery, so that other idea just sat there in my WIPs folder titled simply "sickfic.docx" for two years. When I saw UFO on the list I IMMEDIATELY went oh my god I'm going to finally finish this thing.

the bones of what you believe (OotW) [bones]: This is a partial hit. I came up with the idea for the broken bones thing just for this prompt, but as I started writing it, it naturally morphed into a reality break, and I had the following stub in my OotW ideas folder (titled 'delirium'): "Cognitive dissonance, catra adjusting to bright moon but its so pastel, and soft, and breezy, and smells like open air and flowers, it feels like a halucination, it’s difficult to tell what’s real". I ended up incorporating those aspects into this reality break, which I think works better than trying to turn that into its own fic separately, so another idea down!

Backseat Beast (Trade Today for Tomorrow) [moonlight]: I've had the catcrumbs drawing that inspired this sitting in my drafts, with those tags attached (minus Sapphic September lol), since the 4th of July... 2023. Yeah. I told you this was scrapbusting lol. I knew I wanted to do something with Catra, being far too aware for a kid her age, using it to listen in and be a bit of a little shit, but I never came up with more for it and had the idea it had to be multiple vignettes to make a new installment but like... it doesn't. It can just be one, lol, so as soon as I saw 'moonlight' I thought of TTfT since it's tied into immortality in that verse and I ended up using this idea even though there isn't actually any moonlight directly tied into this idea. I was going to try to write another scene that actually had the moonlight glow, but what I learned this month was that I need to give myself permission to write smaller things more.

mirrorworld (a left turn somewhere around etheria) (OotW) [surreal]: okay obviously I made that original tumblr post four years ago, but I had no intention of actually writing it. I happened to rediscover it two years later though (not really sure when) and decided I should actually write it. Well I wrote one paragraph and then never picked it back up. When I saw both the surreal and mirror prompts I knew I had to actually do this fucking idea now or just delete the damn file lmao.

Starlight (somewhere between the sand & stardust) [the divine/awakening]: This was intended to be my next project after Slipstream before Sapphic September grasped my attention with that fucking ghost prompt. Anyway just a glance at the prompt list told me I could fit in the Lightbeam sequel with these themes somewhere so hey, problem solved! I was a little burnt out on kidfic right after Slipsteam so the break to write all the stupid stuff gave me the room I needed to actually write Starlight.

A Prophecy from an Angry God [prophecy]: Oh boy this one. I don't normally like crossover fic because most of the time the themes of the two things just don't mesh, nevermind the plot, but I do sometimes like AUs just using another universe's rules (thus letting you make your own themes & plot) so that's what I wanted to do with this. The avatar fic came to me as a fever dream in the later house or early morning, I don't remember which, and I made the file in my Scrivener ideas folder on March 24th in 2023, but I wasn't sure I was actually ever going to write it. I remembered it when thinking about prophecy/fate in regards to the Avatar's role, though, and I was like. I'm not deleting this file ever, so I either need to write it now or look at it forever. So I finally wrote it LOL.

In AU-ctober, I've been seeing on the idea for Somewhere Beautiful, We Can Finally Meet for 7 months. I started working on it here and there, but AU-ctober planning started back in early September and I thought this would be a good way to close it out, even if it ended up being much longer than the five days that made up that week.

Rain or Shine I've been sitting on for AGES and the Sheratober prompts helped push me on ideas to finally get it out.

The Green Line idea is only a month old, but it was just "subway AU" and the Sleep prompt came along as a great way to spur interaction by falling asleep on public transit.

• Nonetheless, what's today's annual Inktober topic? 🤔 Mmmm... Do you remember when I drew "Day 5" in 2022's Inktober → [CLICK ME!] [SECRET BLOGS EXCLUSIVE!], as well as bryan360's Art Trade artworks from 2022 → [CLICK ME! #1], [CLICK ME! #2] ? 🙂 Well, here's a spin-off with an extra twist! 😄 Wearing their A/W Clothes or Normal Clothes in "Baggy Size" rather than normal size, with their bodies (or rather furs) invisible. Plus, a respective color of clothing will be included as a separate artwork (not just different shades of pumpkin colors) because I loved seeing baggy clothes, in all hugable colors! 🥰🤗 I call this year's Inktober: "Baggy Cloth-Ober"! 🧢👕🧤👖🧦👟🥰 This is SOMETHING, that I want it to do than making another scare-related stuff. When Spot & Riya switching their A/W Clothes gifted from the rabbit/fox family, on March 2021 → [CLICK ME!], she finally found her favorite comfort. Sure, her magenta fur wearing solid red & blue threads doesn't matched her personality because its a boy's clothes, as well as the glasses. But, she said "who cares"? She want it so bad, and she's keeping it permanently. Now, she owns two A/W clothes, and don't worry about her OG A/W Clothes. You'll see her more often, as her owned Maxwell A/W clothes. Plus, adding a warm fitted socks & shoes (which I drew it for my A-Pal's OC) for both Maxwell and Riya covers their red & blue comfy threads. 🔴🔵🐰🏎️👕🧤🥰🤗

Just kidding, but you probably believed me for a second there. What Megs actually is is the pure personification of Virgo, running laps around the rest of us mere mortals.

This lady writes fic, records podfic, records a podcast, makes art, runs various Discord servers, runs various fandom fests, and somehow finds the time to read and comment?? She is super openminded and openhearted. She is encouraging to others. She is creative, hilarious, and helpful. All of this in fandom spaces alone, but she also has like...a real life?? Outside of this?? How, though?

And even though real life has been kicking her tail of late, she was still making stuff happen????

Not to mention, my first podcast I was featured on was because of Megs reaching out to me! And her presence in the same episode helped me stay calm and sane. We've done multiple episodes together on both Snape Chat and her own podcast, Care of Magical Shippers. She is such a blast to chat with, and listen to. And I have to credit her big time with me opening up to new opportunities and trying new things, however scary they were. And her always being such a rock through it all.

And I'm not the only person she's positively impacted. The communities she's built have been so important for so many people, making connections and building friendships and finding support and encouragement, from people all across the HP fandom. And other fandoms, now! Multi-shipper, multi-fandom, multi-talented QUEEN.)

Finally, some new artwork!! A good way to kick-off the new year, hopefully! I'm sorry I didn't post anything original in the latter half of 2022, but real life really kicked me in the bum, and I only barely managed to finish the first draft of my new story.

This is Kari, the second half of the storytelling-duo from my new project, *King Eyes*. You might remember Dalon from last year. Here's my current blurb for the novella:

Dalon is a storyteller, Kari is a daydreamer. Armed with a mind-reading amulet, they try to craft the most anticipated folktale retelling in their village.

There aren't many ways to fatten a purse in the sleepy fishing settlement of Lurit. Dalon juggles working at the fish market during the day and peddling stories to eager listeners some nights. Using an amulet called King Eyes that allows him to read minds, he partners with Kari, a girl struggling to find her place within her potter family. With Dalon's easy way with words and Kari's crisp, vivid imagination, their stories soon develop a small but loyal audience.

With a trading caravan arriving in a handful of days, Dalon sees an opportunity to earn extra coin from the influx of visitors. On a tight deadline, Dalon and Kari scramble to care for family, cook fish, make pottery, keep their partnership a secret, all the while trying to patch up the biggest plot hole in their folktale.

Anyway, one of my goals this year is to create at least three fully coloured illustrations. I feel like I haven't really improved my art skills for a few years now. Here's to hoping that the stars will align to let me achieve that goal. 🤞🤞

My Artworks Throughout 2022

We’re almost at the end of this month and the entire year of 2022. After all the things happening; including the events, news, reveals, etc. It was a lot of ups and downs. My personal take however was me and my family already moved to our new home, playing recent games and content like 👊MultiVersus and ☕️Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, and once again sharing some art trades with my friends. I would hope that someday when growing up is to do earnings via art commission like one of my friends does. At least that my suggestion, but not bad. For now, here’s to look forward of what I’ll do for next year. Something for support or creativity, It’ll be a ride for 2023 straight ahead. Anyways, just wanted to share my artwork picks I’ve gone through this year; even if one of them mostly posted on Tumblr. A Bloody Mistake: I liked this one because it was for a thiam event I did and it really challenged me to develop a story with an outline. I struggle with plans and outlines. It is important to plan things. gjgjgjgj.

Scenting: I liked this one because it helped me to focus on feeling and emotions based on characters body language. It was harder to do and I think it came out well.

The Longing to Intertwine my Soul With Yours: This was for Lou @waterloou I like it because it was my softer side with Thiam.

Love is Friendship That Has Caught on Fire Also for Lou @waterloou It was written from Liam's perspective and it was the first time I had a one-shot that was focused on the past for him.

I Love You as Certain Dark Things are To Be Loved, in Secret. I just like this one it was the first fic that took me hours to write each chapter. I had to set it up and use different techniques I wasn't used to.

your top 4 current WIPs that you’re excited to release in the new year:

Haunted Place: I finally can work on this and it is from Liam's perspective and adds in Season 5.

The Other Side of Sanity: I get to finish this too and it is part 2 of The Trade.

Vampire/Werewolf Au: I have been thinking about this one for a while and wanted to try something different.

your top 3 biggest improvements in your writing (or art) over the past year:

I think the ability to add detail with the atmosphere and set the tone/vibe of the story.

2. To be able to create and develop some ideas that are able to express emotions, while better separating them from conversations with the characters. So more descriptive writing.

3. Simplified writing. Sometimes I get too wordy.

your top 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year:

I think being able to do have more depth in my writing and being able to start something with an actual outline. :) I'm trying. gjhgjg

and your number 1 favorite line you’ve written this year! The gunshot rings out across an otherwise quiet night, shattering the silence into pieces, reminding all of them that they’re not alone, they are not in the clear just yet, but they never thought they were.

It is simple but I have been trying really hard to have more descriptions in my stories of the surrounding scene.

His little bird friends perch on his trees outside the window, singing “good morning” to you two detangle yourself from each other’s arms. He yawns before he notices you staring at him with a content smile. You brush your fingers along his cheek, thumbing at the dark skin of his scar. He draws you close and presses a small kiss against your ear, making you blush. And in return, you pepper his face with light kisses, whispering about how beautiful he was. If William was being honest, he could bear to walk around without a mask these days only because of your daily affirmations every morning. How loved and safe you make him feel…He wouldn’t trade it for the world. You shampoo his hair in the shower, laughing as you make hairstyles with his hair. He returns the favor and combs your hair carefully as he hums your favorite song. The Golden Dawn stalks you two as you take a short walk in the courtyard gardens, talking about your day to come. They loved seeing their captain smile again after all he has been through. With you, he seemed to glow. He blushes as you kiss his cheek. His heart felt like it was going to explode. He cradles your face in his hands, whispers an “I love you,” and presses a chaste kiss. Somewhere in the bushes you could hear a “squee” as Mimosa exclaims at the sight. You two giggle and hug each other one last time before you part for your duties.
