Synopsis: One-year free trial lol. 

A frustrated sigh left Jaehwa’s lips as she laid on the bed, her knees curled to her chest and hands under her head. Jiwon gave her a soft smile on the other side of the bed, turning onto his side as she looked at him. 

“Rough day?” Jiwon asked. 

“Woohyuk is an idiot,” Jaehwa covered her face with her hands, “Yongsun hates him,” 

The leader furrowed his brows together, “Hates him? What did he do?” 

Jaehwa groaned and rested her face against his chest, her shoulders falling as she thought back to the situation that had happened today. Yongsun had been in a bad mood since, even when she brought him ttoebokki for dinner. 

“The first words he ever said to his son were about the adoption,” Jaehwa shook her head, “Honestly, has he never spoken to a teenager before?! You don’t say that, Woohyuk should have gotten to know Yongsun, his interests, what he’s been doing, not-” 

She was cut off by Jiwon leaning forward and pressing a kiss to her lips. Jaehwa pulled away and sat up, staring down at Jiwon with wide eyes. He just smiled and tucked his hands behind his head. 

“Jiwon-” 

“It’s what they do in dramas,” He shrugged. 

Jaehwa couldn’t help but laugh, “Dramas? What are you, twenty?” 

“Mentally,” Jiwon winked and sat up, “There’s nothing wrong with a happy ending,” 

Looking at her leader, Jaehwa sighed, “Jiwon, we’re almost forty, we don’t get a massive exciting drama” 

He sighed and rested his head against her own, smiling as he stared into her eyes. Jaehwa looked at her leader curiously, her brows pulling together as he kissed her nose. 

“Then skip all of it and let's get married,” 

“Hold on,” She pulled away, “You're supposed to date before you get married, you’ve been married before!” 

Jiwon counted on his fingers, “We’ve kissed, had sex, known each other for a long time, those are the three things that qualify a person to get married,” 

Jaehwa bit the inside of her cheek and stood up, smirking, “Jaejin,” 

“We just won’t invite him to the wedding,” 

A laugh escaped Jaehwa’s mouth as she flopped back down onto the bed, covering her face as Jiwon laid down beside her. 

“I also make you laugh so I get bonus points,” 

She looked at him, “You know what, fine, One-year marriage subscription and then I’ll decide if we continue,”

After announcing her engagement a month ago, it seems wedding plans are underway for Rose and H.O.T member Kangta. The bridal salon posted a photo of Rose trying on one of their signature designer dresses. Fan response has been overwhelmingly positive for the couple since their announcement.

July Wrap Up

Hello everyone!

We are now coming to the end of summer (but not quite, there’s about a month left thankfully!). We are also about to hit 500 posts! A few things we wanted to talk to you all about-- KPopupdated is now @kpopsunbae! We went through a little rebranding, but you’ll see more of that in a little bit. Also don’t forget, we have a Discord Server: https://discord.gg/3gx6u5R (this link shouldn’t expire)! 

We also wanted to know if you guys had any type of content you would like to see from us-- let us know on any of our social media accounts (Instagram or Twitter!). Constructive criticism is always welcome too! One last thing, what time zones are you guys in? Let us know so we can modify our scheduling if need be.

July 2011: Myung-wol the Spy (Eric Mun of Shinhwa is one of the main male leads. The show’s ratings averaged at around 7%. Ryeowook of Super Junior contributed to the OSTs along with BEG’s Narsha, Bobby Kim, and Lena Park.) July 2011: The Princess’s Man (The drama did very well ratings wise-- slowly climbing till it ended with over 20% ratings. It also won various awards at multiple awards show.) July 2011: The Scent of a Woman (Stars Kim Sun Ah and Lee Dong Wook. Junsu of JYJ made a cameo. The show did really well in ratings and won many awards.)

July 2012: Golden Time (Hwang Jung Eum is the main female lead. The show did really well with ratings and won four awards at different award shows. The OSTs features a lot of known singers including Every Single Day, 10cm, Byul, Zico, and Melody Day.) July 2012: Reply 1997 (Full of star power including Apink’s Jung Eun Ji (this was her acting debut), Seo In-Geuk, former INFINITE member Hoya, SECHSKIES Eun Ji Won, and many other incredible cameos. Because it is set in the 90s, there is no usual soundtrack like other dramas, but the leads did release a special song for fans. It eventually achieved really great ratings (through word of mouth) and won many awards.)  July 2013: Who Are You? (Ok Taecyeon of 2PM is one of the main male leads of this drama.) 

July 2014: Hi! School: Love On (The show stars INFINITE’s Woohyun and Sungyeol. It was later broadcasted in five other Asian countries.) July 2014: Fated To Love You/You Are My Destiny (The show stars Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara. It reached up to 12% ratings and won a few awards. July 15, 2009: Chaw (This movie was made to emulate a B-rated Hollywood style horror film about an animal going mad and killing humans. Partially shot in the States with a variety of special effects.)  July 23, 2009: Tidal Wave/ Haeundae (Singer Uhm Jung Hwa is one of the characters. The film received over 11 million admissions and won ten awards at various award shows.)  July 29, 2009: Take Off (This film was made to introduce the Korean people to ski jumping. It ended up winning a few awards.)

July 20, 2011: The Front Line (This movie won multiple awards at various award shows.) July 27, 2011: Leafie, A Hen into the Wild (This critically acclaimed movie made records, as over 2 million movie goers viewed. It was considered a “home grown animated” film. What made this so special is that animations tend to do poorly in Korea. Yoo Seung Ho is one of the lead voice actors.)

July 12, 2012: Dangerously Excited/I’m a Civil Servant (This dramedy stars Yoon Je Moon and Sung Joon.)  July 25, 2012: The Thieves (This is the 8th highest grossing film in Korean film history, winning multiple technical and acting awards.) 

July 11, 2013: Pluto (This movie won an award at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival. It stars Lee David, Sung Joon, and Kim Kkot Bi.)  17, 2013: Mr. Go (This was the first Korean film to be completely shot in 3D.  This joint production between China and South Korea was based on the comic The 7th Team.)

July 3, 2014: Mourning Grave (This horror film, starring Kang Ha Neul and Kim So Eun,   had over 200,000 ticket sales. MBLAQ participated in the main OST.)  July 23, 2014: Kundo: Age of Rampant (This movie broke the record for highest opening day box office.)  July 30, 2014: The Admiral: Roaring Currents (Just eight days later, this movie broke Kundo: Age of Rampant’s record for highest opening day box office.)

HAPPY STUFF:

July 2012: PSY shoots to stardom with his mega-hit Gangnam Style! Later, during the same year, the music video became the first video to hit 1 billion views on YouTube (and on the internet). As of writing this post, the video has over 3 billion views!

Father

Pairing: Jaehwa/Woohyuk ft Yongsun 

Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU 

Rating: Angst 

Synopsis: Yongsun meets his father and things do not go well. 

“Is my dad a Sechskies member?” Yongsun asked. 

“No,” Jaehwa answered, “But he was an idol,” 

Yongsun scratched his head for a moment as they sat at the cafe, she could tell there was an anxious look on his face. His knuckles crackling together like how she would do when she was nervous. 

“Do you know the group H.O.T?” Jaehwa asked. 

Her son nodded, “Yes,” 

Jaehwa bit the inside of her cheek as she looked at her son, she felt bad that she’d given him up for adoption but things were so bad. She softly grabbed his hand and gave him a sad smile. 

“Promise you won’t leave when you met him, okay?” She whispered. 

He clutched her hand, “I won’t, I swear,” 

She smiled before looking up as the door to the cafe opened, Woohyuk walking in and looking around. He spotted her first before his eyes looked down at Yongsun, swallowing thickly and walking to the table. 

“Hello, Woohyuk,” Jaehwa whispered. 

“Hey,” 

Woohyuk sat down beside her, a soft smile on his lips as he looked at Yongsun. The young rapper seemed surprised by the man sitting in front of him, there were some slight characteristics between them from the samll eyes to the slightly tanner skin. 

“Yongsun, this is Woohyuk,” Jaehwa explained. 

The young boy leaned forward, “He’s my father?” 

“Yes,” Woohyuk nodded, “I’ll admit, I didn’t know about you until recently, if I had of known when you were born, I would have taken you,” 

Jaehwa and Yongsun both gave him a sour look. 

“Excuse me?” “Pardon?” Where both spoken at the same time,” 

“I mean I wouldn’t have let your mother put you up for adoption,” Woohyuk explained, “If Jaehwa told me about you, I would have let you grow up with your real family,” 

Jaehwa was about to speak but Yongsun beat her to it, “Let me grow up with my real family? How could you say that? Mom putting me up for adoption has nothing to do with you, from what I know, you were busy prancing around on stage so I think even if you knew about me and took me, it wouldn’t have been any different!” 

Yongsun stood up as Woohyuk looked shocked. 

“I don’t blame Mom for not telling you about me, I’ve known you for five minutes and your the worst dad ever,” 

Looking at Woohyuk as Yongsun walked out of the cafe, Jaehwa shook her head and stood up. 

“Congratulations,” Jaehwa mumbled under her breath, “You just won father of year,”

Synopsis: Who’s the dad? 

“Eom-” 

Yongsun froze at the sight of a man standing in the lounge room, holding his baby sister. Jaehwa turned and smiled, waving her son into the room. Slowly, the young boy shuffled inside, sticking close to his mother. 

“She looks you,” Jintae smiled softly, “Little Jangmi,” 

Jaehwa smiled, “She has Jaeduck’s nose,” 

“Yongsun looks like you at least,” He pointed out as he looked at Yongsun, “I’d be thankful for that, especially when he was a baby,” 

Looking at her son, Jaehwa laughed softly as Yongsun seemed to be silently pleading at her. Who was this random man in their house? She wrapped her arm around her son’s shoulder and held him forward. 

“Yongsun, this is your godfather,” Jaehwa smiled, “Jintae, you might know him as Verbal Jint, he’s my best friend,” 

Jintae smiled at the boy who’s jaw dropped. Oh sure, just a random note that his godfather is the pioneer of Korean rap, totally not a big deal at all. Jaehwa laughed softly before Jangmi squirmed and she picked up her daughter. 

“Is everything okay, Yongsun?” Jaehwa asked. 

“Uh, I’ll ask you later,” Yongsun smiled before rushing back to his room. 

Jaehwa and Jintae both shared a look before sitting down on the couch, Jaehwa cradling her new born daughter in her arms. There was a soft smile on Jintae’s face as he watched her. 

“I never thought you’d have another kid,” He stated. 

She snorted, “They sort of just happen, I’ve learnt,” 

Jintae nodded, “I remember when you told me you were pregnant with Yongsun, I thought it was mine for a while there,” 

“Why would you think-” Jaehwa stopped. 

There was a period of time, her and Jintae were a little bit closer then normal. Then again, he wasn’t the only one. Jaehwa placed Jangmi down in her cot, placing her finger to her lips and thinking. 

He looked at her, “Jaehwa your overthinking this, it’s been eighteen years,” 

“Yongsun was born in December,” Jaehwa whispered, “We were close in April,” 

They looked at each other before Jintae laughed nervously, “He does have my eyes,” 

“Don’t do this to me, Jintae,” Jaehwa panicked. 

“There’s no way I can be the dad,” He laughed, “We were safe, remember?” 

Both smiled and nodded until Yongsun barged down the hallway, Jaehwa looked up at her son. He took a deep breath and swallowed thickly, looking almost determined as he looked down at his mother. 

“I don’t think this can wait,” Yongsun nodded, “Who’s my father?” 

Jaehwa swallowed thickly.

Leader, Maknae, Something more.

Pairing: Jiwon/Jaehwa

Rating: Fluff 

Synopsis: Leader and Maknae or something more. 

"Your baby is fine, it's just some spotting,"

Jaehwa wasn't sure who let out a large sigh of relief, her or Jiwon. The leader bends forward, covering his face in his hands. She snorted at his overreaction.

"Hear that? Your baby is fine, Jiwon," Jaehwa joked.

"Yah! I'm not pregnant! You are!" He lectured her, "I was worried!"

Shaking her head as they walked out of the doctor's office. Jiwon was holding her shoulders as the two walked.

"I swear that you're more excited about this baby then Duckie is," She shook her head.

"I'm worried as godfather is all," Jiwon stated.

Jaehwa crossed her arms as they stood outside the hospital, she looked up at him with a soft smile. She'd known him for long enough, they'd been a little too close way back.

"Jiwon," Jaehwa whispered, "You and Sooyeon divorced because you wanted a baby and she wasn't ready, isn't that right?"

He could only cross his arms, "Nothing gets past you, you were always too smart for your own good, Jaebaby,"

Jaehwa laughed softly, "Maybe things would have turned out differently if Sechskies never disbanded,"

"Maybe we'd have the baby together now," Jiwon looked down at her stomach, "I did ask you to come with me when we disbanded,"

“That would have only proved your favoritism,” 

“Or my love,” 

Silence fell between them, Just as leader and maknae or something more, there were feelings mixed in with the silence. Maybe Jiwon was too late, Jaehwa was moving on with her life, another baby on the way and building some with Jaeduck again. While him? He was leader, godfather and music artist. 

“We’re too old for a mess like this,” Jaehwa whispered and placed a hand on her tummy. 

“Maybe if it wasn’t a mess then we could,” He nodded, “I won’t lie and say I don’t get jealous of Jaeduck and Jaejin, you were always my baby first,” 

Jaehwa smiled as he brought her into a hug. The truth behind his words stung slightly, she was never Jaeduck or Jaejin’s, Jaehwa had always been Jiwon’s baby first, whether it was Leader and Maknae or something more.

Panic

Pairing: Jaehwa/Yongsun 

Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU 

Rating: Fluff 

Synopsis: Yongsun panics. 

Jaehwa groaned as she sat down, letting out a deep sigh as she pulled her dress down slightly to adjust. Yongsun smiled as he sat across from his mother, handing her the hot chocolate. 

“I don’t think I missed being pregnant,” Jaehwa whispered as she sipped her chocolate. 

“But isn’t it exciting?” Yongsun smiled, “You and Jaeduck together, expecting a baby together, it’s very pretty sounding,” 

She laughed softly, “Jaeduck and I aren’t together, Sunny, we’re just having a baby together,”

The boy blinked a few times behind his glasses, Yongsun always thought Jaeduck and his mother were together. Perhaps not, they didn’t live together after all and he didn’t think anyone was official. Jaehwa chuckled as she watched her son in deep thought. 

“You’re over thinking it,” Jaehwa smiled. 

Yongsun pouted, “Did dad know you pregnant when you had me?” 

Jaehwa swallowed thickly and perked up, she blinked a few times and Yongsun cringed. 

“Sorry,” He whispered, “I shouldn’t have asked..,” 

“It’s not that,” Jaehwa took a deep breath, “Remember what we practiced? For when the baby comes?”

He nodded before his eyes went wide and he looked down at his mother’s stomach before up at her face. Jaehwa swallowed thickly and smiled, Yongsun rushing from the room for the phone. 

Somehow, he managed to slip on the hallway mat and slide across the tiles, perhaps the adrenaline stop him from realizing his arm was broken as he picked up the phone. 

“Hello!” Yongsun screamed into the phone, “My mommy is having a baby!”

YG Announcement 

On 23/5/2019, Min Jaehwa of Sechskies gave birth to a daughter, Min Jangmi. She is currently resting and will not be attending Sechskies appearances for now. Jaehwa requests privacy for herself, her son and new daughter.

90′s

Pairing: Jaehwa/Sechskies 

Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU 

Rating: Fluff 

Synopsis: Jaehwa sees photos of herself from back in the 90′s. 

Jaehwa cringed slightly at the photo of her younger self on the screen with the teased pigtails and long fringe covering her face. God, looking back, she hated how she looked. The hosts noticed her reaction.

"Is it a bad photo?" Kyuhun asked.

"What?!" Jaehwa gasped, "Well, it's just a really old photo,"

"Are you wearing extensions in that photo?"

"No," Jaehwa laughed, her cheeks burning red.

"Ooh..," All the hosts looked between each other.

"The funny story behind Jaehwa's pigtails," Sunghoon giggled, "She would need well over three hours for just her hair to be done and then that night, two of us would have to help brush her hair out,"

Jaehwa's face turned a deep red as Sunghoon explained the story, turning her face away from the group.

"How long did it take?"

"In the beginning, almost all night," Jiwon explained, "But, after about three weeks, we all got really good at untangling hair so it was only just a few hours,"

"Why didn't you just leave it in?"

"My hair would have gone gross!" Jaehwa exclaimed, "They had to stop with the pig tails actually because they teased my hair so much that it went really thin and I had to cut it, I hate having my hair cut,"

"You're almost 4-"

All of Sechskies eyes went wide and they shook their head as Jaehwa slammed her hand on the table.

"I am 35!" Jaehwa snapped, pointing between the hosts, "You're all rude! How dare you bring up a woman's age so casually!"

Jaejin laughed nervously, "It's a bad idea to talk about that,"

"But she doesn't look a day over 25," Jaeduck smiled, patting Jaehwa's head.

The maknae smiled, flipping her brown hair that was pulling into a pony tail over her shoulder and winking at Jaeduck.

"Yah! Did you two date too!?" Gookjin asked.

Jaehwa laughed, shaking her head and Jaeduck's cheeks went red.

"No," Jaeduck shook his head. 

“Actually,” Jaehwa covered her cheeks slightly, “I used to have a crush on Tony 16 years ago..,”

All five males gasped, Jaeduck staring at Jaehwa with wide eyes while she hid behind her hands. Jiwon stood up dramatically as well as Jaejin who both glared down at her. Sunghoon and Suwon both laughter with slack jaws.

“You are not going to Jaeduck’s house ever again!” Jiwon yelled. 

“It was 16 years ago!” Jaehwa fought, “I-” 

“End of discussion!” Jaejin and Jiwon both snapped. 

Jaehwa shook her head, the hosts laughing at their behavior.

2000 Again

Pairing: Jaehwa/Sunghoon ft Jiwon 

Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU 

Rating: Angst 

Synopsis: Jaehwa learns about Sunghoon leaving the group. 

“You’re leaving?” 

The way Jaehwa’s voice breaks makes Sunghoon look down at the floor guiltily. The one person he was dreading seeing stood in the doorway of the studio, her hands clasp together and on the brink of tears. No matter how old the maknae got, Jaehwa was always the baby. 

“I have to,” Sunghoon whispered, “I’m holding the group back, I’m not in the right mind frame to continue going on and I have no right to keep you and the others from continuing,” 

“Why is everyone leaving?” Jaehwa broke out in a sob. 

Sunghoon’s own eyes began to fill with tears, Jaehwa covered her face as she sobbed. She’d always been emotionally sensitive, that would never change no matter how many years passed. The sound of footsteps made her look to her right and up at their leader. 

“ Oppa..,” Jaehwa sobbed, tears rolling down her cheeks. 

Jiwon held her in a hug instantly, eyes going wide as he looked between Jaehwa and Sunghoon. Jiwon wasn’t surprised, he knew she’d break down the moment she found out about Sunghoon’s departure. 

“Everyones leaving,” She sobbed into his chest, “It’s 2000 all over again,” 

“Hey,” Jiwon rubbed her back, “Don’t say that, we’re still together,” 

Jaehwa cried, “We don’t have Jiyong and Sunghoon’s leaving! “ 

She pushed herself away from him, Jiwon was surprised at her newfound strength. Sunghoon’s eyes went wide as he watched Jiwon attempt to calm the maknae. 

“How long before the rest of you leave!” Jaehwa yelled, “Who’s next? Jaejin?! You?!” 

“I’m not leaving and neither is Jaejin!” Jiwon told her, “Jae-duck, Suwon, no more of us are leaving, I promise!” 

“Jaehwa..,” Sunghoon whispered, “Jaehwa!” 

Looking at the vocal, she screamed, “”What?!” 

“You’re bleeding..,”

Baby Dae

Synopsis: When Dae was just a baby, Jaehwa used to take her to shows. 

1999

A loud gasp escaped Jaehwa’s lips as she rushed towards the door, cooing at the five year old girl who had just walked into the room. Jaeduck and Sunghoon both joined her, grinning as Jaehwa picked up the baby Dae in her arms. 

“Oh look at her!” Jaehwa cooed as Dae smiled, “She’s getting so big!” 

“She’s so cute,” Sunghoon smiled, pinching Dae’s cheeks, “How’s our little Daelight?” 

Dae giggled, reaching out for Jaeduck, “Unwle,” 

“Aish, your mom keeps trying to teach you more languages,” Jaehwa shook her head as she handed Jaeduck the small girl. 

Dae babbled out an incoherent mix of English, Korean and Chinese making the three laugh at her cuteness. Jaeduck bounced Dae in his arms and Jaehwa smiled at him. 

“Dae Dae,” Jiyong grinned as he snuck up on Jaeduck, startling the small girl. 

She let out a squeal of surprise before her bottom lip began to tremble, tears forming in her eyes. Jiyong’s eyes went wide and Jaeduck looked at Jaehwa with a fearful look. 

“Oh my god,” Jaejin’s voice spoke up, taking baby Dae from Jaeduck’s arms and cradling the small girl, “You’re so bad with children,” 

“He is not, Dae was just started,” Jiwon spoke from behind him. 

Jaeduck pouted softly as Dae rested her scared face into Jaejin’s shoulder, making the male awe softly at her cuteness. She sniffled a few times as Jaehwa cooed at her, rubbing her back slowly. 

“Hey honey, Uncle Jiyong isn’t scary,” Jaehwa cooed softly. 

Dae kept her face hidden in Jaejin’s shoulder and Jaehwa pouted, tickling the younger girl’s sides softly with a smile on her face. Dae squirmed slightly, a hiccuped giggle escaping her. 

“There���s our little girl!” She smiled, “Come here,” 

“No!” Jaejin turned away from Jaehwa, “I want to hold her!” 

“She’s my god child!” Jaehwa gasped, “You can’t steal her!” 

“She likes me more,” He shot back. 

Suwon laughed, “Actually she likes Jaeduck the most,”

Jaehwa groaned as she picked up another paper from her desk, she ran her fingers through her hair. Hopefully, this paper wouldn’t have been so horribly obvious as the last paper. Being a teacher had it’s ups and downs, sharing knowledge and raising the next generation but god, some people could be so stupid. 

A knock on the door made Jaehwa look up, a soft smile on her face as she stood up, greeting the man at her door. 

“Jintae,” Jaehwa laughed softly, “You should have texted, I look horrible right now,” 

“I’ve known you since middle school, Jaehwa,” Jintae shook his head as he walked in. 

She crossed her arms and leaned against her desk, her hair had been taken out of her bun and heels came off as well. It was the end of the school day either way, tutoring wasn’t on today either. 

“Doesn’t mean I don’t like to look nice,” Jaehwa laughed. 

He smiled, placing a kiss on her cheek as he placed down the bag of food on her desk. 

“Our old English classroom,” Jintae commented, “It’s been a very long time since I’ve been here,” 

“And I teach here almost everyday,” Jaehwa shrugged, “Thankfully, theirs no one like us in these classes, I would have quit many months ago,” 

“You weren’t bad, it was me that was,” Jintae chuckled as he leaned on the desk next to her, letting Jaehwa lean her head on his shoulder, “You know, you could always come back and leave this class room behind,” 

Jaehwa laughed at his comment, she was one of the only members from Sechskies who hadn’t released an album or song after the group had disbanded. Of course, many times Jintae had offered her to be in one of his songs or tried to urge her to release music again. 

“No,” Jaehwa shook her head, “I’m just a simple teacher, working her life away, it’s not the 90′s anymore,” 

“I think you need to come back to music,” Jintae commented. 

“I think you need a hair cut,” Jaehwa sassed him. 

Jintae turned, kissing her on the forehead, “Seriously, Epik High are doing a song and their calling in some rappers for it, I may have promised to have you on the track,” 

Jaehwa moved away from him with wide eyes, “Jintae!” 

He gave her a childish grin and a giggle, “Jaehwa,” 

She took in a deep inhale, “One song,” 

“You’ll do it?!” He beamed. 

“One song and then I am back to being a teacher!” Jaehwa slapped his chest and grabbed the food from the table.

2020

             “Hey.” Jiwon’s voice is uncharacteristically soft. The kind of soft he only reserves for those with a special place in his heart. Rose almost can’t bare it. Jiwon recognizing her weakness is the last thing she needs. “If you want to sit this one out-“

             “Don’t insult me, Jiwon. I keep telling you it’s fine. I’ve moved on.”

             “Of course you have. We both have.”

             “We have.”

             Jiwon nods. “That’s why you’re going home with Kangta. Because you’ve moved on. Because seeing Jongkook again hasn’t triggered you and made you rush into something you shouldn’t have. Because you’re definitely not still running from the past.”

             Rose shoots him a glare that would bring a less stubborn man to his knees and make him beg for mercy. Luckily, Jiwon’s got too much pride to swallow for that.

             “When the fuck did you turn into Suwon? Pissing people off is his thing.”

             The almost-maknae’s head perks up at the sound of his name. “I resent any comparison you just made.”

             “You should,” Rose snaps back.

             Jaeduck giggles quietly. “Someone didn’t get much sleep last night.” The insinuation isn’t lost on anyone in the room.

             “All of you stay out of my love life!” Rose storms out of the waiting room into the hallway where she runs straight into her worst nightmare. Eyes welling up with tears she screams, “why can’t you just leave me alone, you bastard?!”

             Jongkook blinks in shock, reaching out a hand to steady Rose, only retracting his hand when she flinches. “RaeAh, that’s what I’ve been doing. You asked me to leave you and Kangta alone, and I have.”

             “Yeah, well, just- just keep doing that.” She takes off down the hall, cheeks stained bright red in embarrassment. Maybe she’s known to be the most emotional one in the group, but that doesn’t mean public outbursts don’t fill her with at least a tiny bit of shame.

             “Rose!”

             She speeds up when she hears Jiwon calling her name.

             “Rose! Damn it, Kang RaeAh, slow down!”

             She doesn’t stop until she’s on the front steps of KBS, chilly air stinging her skin and fresh air filling her lungs. Her chest burns and aches and her knees feel wobbly, like they’re made of nothing but gelatin. With the comeback right after her Christmas album, she thought it would be easy to just throw herself into her work, into Sechskies, into her boys, and everything would be fine.

             “You told me- no, you promised me- everything would be better with time, Jiwon.” Rose hates how accusatory she sounds. She hates how she knows it’ll only start a fight with her leader. Maybe that’s what she needs though. A good screaming match where she can just let it all out once and for all and finally, finally move on from the past twenty years.

             Twenty years.

             She’s been holding on to the hurt, the anger, the depression for twenty years.

             “Is it not?” Jiwon asks.

             Rose shakes her head. “It’s worse. I went to America and started a whole new life away from all of you and it never got better. For twenty years I’ve been trying to let the past die and it won’t! I’m out of ideas!”

             He sighs, trying to hide the fact he’s ever so slightly out of breath from chasing her down. “Look, we don’t start filming for thirty minutes. Let’s go to that café down the street and we’ll talk. What?” Jiwon does a double take when he notices the way Rose is looking at him. “What’s wrong with you?”

             “Nothing,” she says as she shakes her head. “I just… have I ever told you how much you mean to me?”

             Jiwon hides the little swell of pride behind a grimace. “Don’t do that.”

1996

             Rose isn’t like most other girls Jiwon knows. Not to say that one type is better than the other. Rose is just… different. She’s soft and so, so naïve that it honestly makes Jiwon sick with fear sometimes. Who’s going to hurt her? Who’s going to take advantage of her? Where does his responsibility for her as a leader end and begin?

             The last question is one that applies to all the members that are going to end up in his group, but it’s also a little different for Rose. She’s going to be the only girl in the group. He’s supposed to protect her more than the others. God knows she can’t do it herself.

             “Don’t you ever touch me again!”

             Jiwon is snapped out of his thoughts by Rose’s high pitched scream of rage. He looks over to see her laying into one of their fellow trainees… whose name Jiwon can’t remember for the life of him. But he sure as fuck is determined to learn it when he watches the dick smile like Rose is playing some game. Jiwon gets up and walks over, enjoying the way the smirk slips off the other guy’s face.

             “Rose, what’s going on?”

             Her eyes are fierce, fiery, dangerous as she glares. “He grabbed my butt when I walked by.”

             “What?” Jiwon’s attention snaps to the younger boy as he says, “RaeAh… go find Jiyong and stay with him until I tell you otherwise.”

             “Jiwon…” For a second her fire falters. “Don’t do anything that could get you in trouble. Please?”

             “Go.”

             Her bravery dips and suddenly she’s scared. Not for Jiwon. For the poor soul she brought his attention to. “It’s not worth it.”

             “Go!”

             With a tiny sound of shock, Rose jumps back and scurries off to look for Jiyong. She finds him in one of the many practice rooms, sneaking a nap with JaiJin. In a panic she spills out the whole story of what just happened. Guilt gnaws at her insides with each second that ticks by.

             “Do you think he killed him?” Rose bites at her nails.

             JaiJin laughs. “Sounds like he might, but the guy deserved it. He shouldn’t have touched you. Jiwon has too much pride and ego to let something like that go.”

             Rose pouts. “Yeah, but over me?”

             All JaiJin does is shrug. “You’re his.”

             Jiyong clears his throat. “What JaiJin means is: you’re in his group. He’s your leader, so he’s going to protect you. If one of us got in trouble-“

             “He’d tell us to deal with it. Rose is the baby so everyone wants to protect her.”

             There’s a moment of silence before Rose says, “Jiyong… we can’t tell him about Jongkook.”

             JaiJin’s eyes go wide. “From Turbo? How do you know him?”

             “They’re dating,” Jiyong says in a rush. JaiJin notices how the younger boy’s face grows slightly more solemn and files that information away for later. It’s interesting enough to catch JaiJin’s attention, so that means it can only be trouble.

             “Jiwon definitely won’t like that.”

             “Won’t like what?” Jiwon plops down on the floor beside Rose, ignoring her incessant poking and prodding for any bruises, cuts, or signs of a fight. “Would you stop? I’m fine!”

             Rose grumbles something about “stupid, stubborn boys” but does as he asks.              

2020

             “Do you remember that trainee you beat up the year before we debuted?” Rose blows the top of her coffee before taking a sip, enjoying the immediate warmth that spreads through her body.

             Jiwon shrugs. “Maybe.”

             “Don’t lie, Jiwon. I’ll know.”

             “So what if I do? That was in ’96. How’s that still relevant?”

             Rose smiles, looping her arm through Jiwon’s and resting her head on his shoulder. “Do you want to know a secret about that day?”

             He makes a vague sound that she takes as a yes.

             “That was the day I figured out you would do anything for me. Not because you had to but because you wanted to. You and Jiyong were the first men who ever loved me and expected nothing in return… I can’t explain how much that means to me.”

             “Your mood swings are killing me. This is why I didn’t want a girl in the group.” He pushes her off and starts walking faster.

             Rose whines playfully. “Oppa! Oppa, come back! I love you! Don’t you love me?!”

             “I don’t know you!”

             “Oppa, people are staring! Are you really going to do this to me on the street?”

             “Rose, if you don’t fuck off right now, I swear!”
