Free Trial
Pairing: Jaehwa/Jiwon
Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU
Rating: Fluff
Synopsis: One-year free trial lol.
Tumblr media
A frustrated sigh left Jaehwa’s lips as she laid on the bed, her knees curled to her chest and hands under her head. Jiwon gave her a soft smile on the other side of the bed, turning onto his side as she looked at him.
“Rough day?” Jiwon asked.
“Woohyuk is an idiot,” Jaehwa covered her face with her hands, “Yongsun hates him,”
The leader furrowed his brows together, “Hates him? What did he do?”
Jaehwa groaned and rested her face against his chest, her shoulders falling as she thought back to the situation that had happened today. Yongsun had been in a bad mood since, even when she brought him ttoebokki for dinner.
“The first words he ever said to his son were about the adoption,” Jaehwa shook her head, “Honestly, has he never spoken to a teenager before?! You don’t say that, Woohyuk should have gotten to know Yongsun, his interests, what he’s been doing, not-”
She was cut off by Jiwon leaning forward and pressing a kiss to her lips. Jaehwa pulled away and sat up, staring down at Jiwon with wide eyes. He just smiled and tucked his hands behind his head.
“Jiwon-”
“It’s what they do in dramas,” He shrugged.
Jaehwa couldn’t help but laugh, “Dramas? What are you, twenty?”
“Mentally,” Jiwon winked and sat up, “There’s nothing wrong with a happy ending,”
Looking at her leader, Jaehwa sighed, “Jiwon, we’re almost forty, we don’t get a massive exciting drama”
He sighed and rested his head against her own, smiling as he stared into her eyes. Jaehwa looked at her leader curiously, her brows pulling together as he kissed her nose.
“Then skip all of it and let's get married,”
“Hold on,” She pulled away, “You're supposed to date before you get married, you’ve been married before!”
Jiwon counted on his fingers, “We’ve kissed, had sex, known each other for a long time, those are the three things that qualify a person to get married,”
Jaehwa bit the inside of her cheek and stood up, smirking, “Jaejin,”
“We just won’t invite him to the wedding,”
A laugh escaped Jaehwa’s mouth as she flopped back down onto the bed, covering her face as Jiwon laid down beside her.
“I also make you laugh so I get bonus points,”
She looked at him, “You know what, fine, One-year marriage subscription and then I’ll decide if we continue,”

The First
Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU
Pairing: Rose/Jiwon
Tumblr media
2020
“Hey.” Jiwon’s voice is uncharacteristically soft. The kind of soft he only reserves for those with a special place in his heart. Rose almost can’t bare it. Jiwon recognizing her weakness is the last thing she needs. “If you want to sit this one out-“
“Don’t insult me, Jiwon. I keep telling you it’s fine. I’ve moved on.”
“Of course you have. We both have.”
             “We have.”
Jiwon nods. “That’s why you’re going home with Kangta. Because you’ve moved on. Because seeing Jongkook again hasn’t triggered you and made you rush into something you shouldn’t have. Because you’re definitely not still running from the past.”
Rose shoots him a glare that would bring a less stubborn man to his knees and make him beg for mercy. Luckily, Jiwon’s got too much pride to swallow for that.
“When the fuck did you turn into Suwon? Pissing people off is his thing.”
The almost-maknae’s head perks up at the sound of his name. “I resent any comparison you just made.”
             “You should,” Rose snaps back.
Jaeduck giggles quietly. “Someone didn’t get much sleep last night.” The insinuation isn’t lost on anyone in the room.
“All of you stay out of my love life!” Rose storms out of the waiting room into the hallway where she runs straight into her worst nightmare. Eyes welling up with tears she screams, “why can’t you just leave me alone, you bastard?!”
Jongkook blinks in shock, reaching out a hand to steady Rose, only retracting his hand when she flinches. “RaeAh, that’s what I’ve been doing. You asked me to leave you and Kangta alone, and I have.”
“Yeah, well, just- just keep doing that.” She takes off down the hall, cheeks stained bright red in embarrassment. Maybe she’s known to be the most emotional one in the group, but that doesn’t mean public outbursts don’t fill her with at least a tiny bit of shame.
             “Rose!”
She speeds up when she hears Jiwon calling her name.
“Rose! Damn it, Kang RaeAh, slow down!”
She doesn’t stop until she’s on the front steps of KBS, chilly air stinging her skin and fresh air filling her lungs. Her chest burns and aches and her knees feel wobbly, like they’re made of nothing but gelatin. With the comeback right after her Christmas album, she thought it would be easy to just throw herself into her work, into Sechskies, into her boys, and everything would be fine.
“You told me- no, you promised me- everything would be better with time, Jiwon.” Rose hates how accusatory she sounds. She hates how she knows it’ll only start a fight with her leader. Maybe that’s what she needs though. A good screaming match where she can just let it all out once and for all and finally, finally move on from the past twenty years.
             Twenty years.
She’s been holding on to the hurt, the anger, the depression for twenty years.
             “Is it not?” Jiwon asks.
Rose shakes her head. “It’s worse. I went to America and started a whole new life away from all of you and it never got better. For twenty years I’ve been trying to let the past die and it won’t! I’m out of ideas!”
He sighs, trying to hide the fact he’s ever so slightly out of breath from chasing her down. “Look, we don’t start filming for thirty minutes. Let’s go to that café down the street and we’ll talk. What?” Jiwon does a double take when he notices the way Rose is looking at him. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing,” she says as she shakes her head. “I just… have I ever told you how much you mean to me?”
Jiwon hides the little swell of pride behind a grimace. “Don’t do that.”
1996
Rose isn’t like most other girls Jiwon knows. Not to say that one type is better than the other. Rose is just… different. She’s soft and so, so naïve that it honestly makes Jiwon sick with fear sometimes. Who’s going to hurt her? Who’s going to take advantage of her? Where does his responsibility for her as a leader end and begin?
The last question is one that applies to all the members that are going to end up in his group, but it’s also a little different for Rose. She’s going to be the only girl in the group. He’s supposed to protect her more than the others. God knows she can’t do it herself.
“Don’t you ever touch me again!”
Jiwon is snapped out of his thoughts by Rose’s high pitched scream of rage. He looks over to see her laying into one of their fellow trainees… whose name Jiwon can’t remember for the life of him. But he sure as fuck is determined to learn it when he watches the dick smile like Rose is playing some game. Jiwon gets up and walks over, enjoying the way the smirk slips off the other guy’s face.
             “Rose, what’s going on?”
Her eyes are fierce, fiery, dangerous as she glares. “He grabbed my butt when I walked by.”
“What?” Jiwon’s attention snaps to the younger boy as he says, “RaeAh… go find Jiyong and stay with him until I tell you otherwise.”
“Jiwon…” For a second her fire falters. “Don’t do anything that could get you in trouble. Please?”
             “Go.”
Her bravery dips and suddenly she’s scared. Not for Jiwon. For the poor soul she brought his attention to. “It’s not worth it.”
             “Go!”
With a tiny sound of shock, Rose jumps back and scurries off to look for Jiyong. She finds him in one of the many practice rooms, sneaking a nap with JaiJin. In a panic she spills out the whole story of what just happened. Guilt gnaws at her insides with each second that ticks by.
“Do you think he killed him?” Rose bites at her nails.
JaiJin laughs. “Sounds like he might, but the guy deserved it. He shouldn’t have touched you. Jiwon has too much pride and ego to let something like that go.”
Rose pouts. “Yeah, but over me?”
All JaiJin does is shrug. “You’re his.”
Jiyong clears his throat. “What JaiJin means is: you’re in his group. He’s your leader, so he’s going to protect you. If one of us got in trouble-“
“He’d tell us to deal with it. Rose is the baby so everyone wants to protect her.”
There’s a moment of silence before Rose says, “Jiyong… we can’t tell him about Jongkook.”
JaiJin’s eyes go wide. “From Turbo? How do you know him?”
“They’re dating,” Jiyong says in a rush. JaiJin notices how the younger boy’s face grows slightly more solemn and files that information away for later. It’s interesting enough to catch JaiJin’s attention, so that means it can only be trouble.
             “Jiwon definitely won’t like that.”
“Won’t like what?” Jiwon plops down on the floor beside Rose, ignoring her incessant poking and prodding for any bruises, cuts, or signs of a fight. “Would you stop? I’m fine!”
Rose grumbles something about “stupid, stubborn boys” but does as he asks.
2020
“Do you remember that trainee you beat up the year before we debuted?” Rose blows the top of her coffee before taking a sip, enjoying the immediate warmth that spreads through her body.
             Jiwon shrugs. “Maybe.”
             “Don’t lie, Jiwon. I’ll know.”
“So what if I do? That was in ’96. How’s that still relevant?”
Rose smiles, looping her arm through Jiwon’s and resting her head on his shoulder. “Do you want to know a secret about that day?”
He makes a vague sound that she takes as a yes.
“That was the day I figured out you would do anything for me. Not because you had to but because you wanted to. You and Jiyong were the first men who ever loved me and expected nothing in return… I can’t explain how much that means to me.”
“Your mood swings are killing me. This is why I didn’t want a girl in the group.” He pushes her off and starts walking faster.
Rose whines playfully. “Oppa! Oppa, come back! I love you! Don’t you love me?!”
             “I don’t know you!”
“Oppa, people are staring! Are you really going to do this to me on the street?”
“Rose, if you don’t fuck off right now, I swear!”

Lost Hope
Series: Sechskies 7th member au
Pairing: Rose/KJK
Tumblr media
2019
“Is it true?”
“Jong Kook-“
“Is it true?” The way he looks at her- completely devastated and heartbroken- makes her feel guilty. “Just be honest with me.”
Rose crosses her arms, eyes trained on the floor. “Why should I? Hmm? You’ve only ever caused me pain, so what gives you the right to demand honesty from me? Don’t be an entitled brat.”
“So you’re dating him?”
She finally looks up at him completely livid. “Out of all the things to dissect in what I just said, that’s what your fucking brain is stuck on? You do realize you’re only proving my point, right?”
“RaeAh, yes or no. That’s all I need.” Jongkook takes a step forward just as she takes a step back. “Please. If you ever loved me, just give me this one mercy.”
Rose’s eyes harden. “Mercy is all I’ve ever given you, Jongkook. Mercy and love. You’ve only ever given me heartbreak in return. I waited for you until I couldn’t anymore and it almost killed me to move on. I won’t let you drag me back down that path. We’re too grown for that.”
“So you are with him.” He gives a sad half smile. “I should’ve seen it coming since he said you were his type on television. Romance has always been your weakness.”
“Don’t talk like you know me.”
“You’ll still come to Running Man to promote, right?”
“Of course I am. I promised Jihyo.”
Jongkook rubs the back of his neck. “There’s nothing between us.”
“I know.”
“I mean between me and Jihyo.”
“I know.” Rose pinches the bridge of her nose as she feels a migraine coming on. “Kookie, can we just have honesty between us? No games, no pushing situations, just honesty. If your goal is to really mend things between us, give me that at the very least.”
His lips quirk up, mind lingering on the old, familiar nickname. She hasn’t used it since the break up. That’s a good sign, right? Jongkook thinks so. There’s still one tiny thing bothering him...
“Rosie.” This time she doesn’t stop him when he reaches out for her. He traces the tips of his fingers over the soft skin of her arm, grinning when goosebumps form on her flesh. She trembles slightly and her breath hitches when he steps closer. “If it’s honesty you want then will you extend me the same courtesy? Please. Tell me if you’re dating him. I need to know my competition.”
She shakes her head. “There’s no competition.”
“So you aren’t with him.” His grin broadens.
“Oh, no, we’re dating. There’s just no competition.”
Just like that, Jongkook’s heart shatters a little more. Rose isn’t completely lost to him- her allowing him to touch her like this and call her Rosie is proof enough- but things are slightly more complicated. Fucking Kangta. Ruining everything.

Hide and Seek
Series: Sechskies 7th Member au
Pairing: Rose/KJK
Tumblr media
2015
“What’s this?” Rose picks up the letter her manager sits down in front of her with the tiniest bit of trepidation. She hadn’t even fully agreed to come back to Sechskies or the idol scene and YG sent a manager out to her home in the US. Now offers for variety shows or collaborations keep flooding her inbox and her mail box.
“I think you’ll be interested in this one,” Hoseok says.
She fixes him with an intimidating stare. “Reading my mail before me?”
He scratches the back of his neck, chuckling nervously. “I’m sorry. I saw who it was from and got curious.”
“Then by all means,” Rose pushes the letter back across the desk. “Just tell me so we don’t waste any more time.
“Turbo!” Hoseok blurts out the name, unable to contain his excitement at the prospect of getting to work with the trio. “It’s their twentieth anniversary and they’re asking you to be a backup dancer for their showcase. Like the old days, noona.”
The old days. Rose can’t help but laugh bitterly. What does this kid know about the old days and everything she went through at the hands of Turbo’s precious Kim Jongkook? Absolutely nothing. Not even her own members understand the depth of the situation.
“Except it’s not the old days anymore, Hoseok. It’s best we move forward and focus on the future rather than drown ourselves in the past.”
             Hoseok nods. “I understand…”
             “But?”
“But I think this might be good for you? Not in terms of your career, but for your personal life. Wouldn’t closure be nice?”
Rose rises from her seat, grabbing her purse and slinging it over her shoulder. Thunder rumbles outside as lightning colors the evening sky. “Kim Jongkook is about twenty years too late for closure. You’ve already heard more about my past than you need to and I won’t talk about it anymore.”
             “Yes, ma’am.”
“I think we’re done for the evening, Hoseok. Go out. Have fun. Take a break.”
             “Yes, ma’am.”
The moment Rose steps outside the office building it’s as if the sky- sensing her sadness and loneliness- opens up and pours down all the stinging rain it’s been holding in for months now. Just as well. Maybe that way no one will notice the tears streaking down her face.
Who does Kim Jongkook think he is? Sending that letter… making that request… does he think she’s still some lovestruck little girl desperately pining for her Prince Charming to come save her? Doesn’t he know that won’t work? Kangta tried for years and failed miserably for years.
“Just like old days,” Rose scoffs. “Fuck off, Jongkook.”
1995
“Jungnam,” Jongkook taps the other boy on the shoulder incessantly until Jungnam has no choice but to turn around and pay Jongkook the attention he wants. “Who’s the girl?”
“What girl? There are tons of girls.”
And there are. Dancer after dancer fills the space with empty chatter. If they aren’t talking they’re warming up to film, working out all the nervous energy so they can focus on their performance with little fear.
“That girl.” Jongkook points out a girl that’s clearly younger than them and a full head shorter than everyone else in the room. She’s tiny and slight, but her smile has a warmth Jongkook has never experienced before.
“Oh, her.” Jungnam shrugs. “Some kid Daesung Entertainment sent over for us.”
“I feel like I’ve seen her before.”
“Maybe. Word going around is they’re trying to debut her as a soloist.”
             “How old is she?”
“Fifteen? Sixteen? Something like that. She- hey! Hey, Jongkook! Where are you going?”
Jongkook waves him off before approaching the girl. She sits on the floor with her legs folded, eyes darting nervously around the room. The closer he gets to her the more he’s completely in awe of just how fucking gorgeous she is. Her lips curve upward in a graceful smile that turns her eyes to beautiful crescent moons when she sees him approaching her and her movements are smooth like running water. Everything about her screams other. She’s different. Fairy like almost. Jongkook knows immediately he wants nothing more than to protect her.
“Hello.” She bows deeply, respectfully, but Jongkook is more focused on the melody of her voice.
“Hello.” Fuck, just keep talking, he wants to add but doesn’t.
             “I’m Kang Rae-Ah.”
             “Kim Jongkook.”
She blushes cutely. “I know. I… I’m a big Turbo fan.”
“Ah, that must be why you’re here.” Jongkook feels a rush of male pride when she giggles and tilts her head to the side, fluttering her eyelashes. “Would you like to meet Jungnam?”
Rae-Ah clasps her hands together in front of her. “Actually, oppa, I wanted to meet you. I guess since I got what I wanted I can leave now.”
“Don’t,” he says a little too quickly. A little too forcefully. “I mean… aren’t you supposed to dance as well?”
There’s a dangerous glint in her eyes that shoots straight to Jongkook’s core. “Do you want me to dance for you, oppa?”
You brave little thing, he thinks. Out loud he says, “How would your boyfriend feel about that?”
Rae-Ah shakes her head. “I don’t have one.”
Jongkook tucks that information away to explore at a later time.
2015
Rose doesn’t know what she’s doing here if she’s being completely honest. She’s been avoiding Seoul for so long now that the city feels foreign with its neon lights and constant noise. Unfortunately, the one thing she wished felt the most foreign is the most familiar. Her feet take her down a path they know all too well, walking forward with a sureness Rose is uncomfortable with. It’s as if her mind only continues to detach from her physical body the closer she gets to Ihwa.
Memories just fucking suck, she thinks to herself as she stands in front of the steps that used to be her favorite spot in the world. The very spot she and Jongkook would meet at after especially grueling schedules. The very spot-
             No.
             She won’t go there.
             “R-RaeAh?”
She freezes in place at the sound of the uncertain, almost scared voice, blood turning to ice in her veins that only starts freely flowing once more when a warm hand falls on her shoulder. He spins her around roughly and grabs her upper arms in an almost painful grip. Almost painful. What hurts her more is the haunted look in Jongkook’s eyes as he stares down at her, not quite believing she’s actually standing in front of him here of all places.
             “Hello, Jongkook.”
“You’re here? Really here? I’m not- this isn’t- you’re not another hallucination?”
Another? No, Rose is very much real, but his phrasing makes her wonder what exactly he’s talking about. Another hallucination? Has he imagined this before? The two of them standing together in this spot, their breath turning to fog in the cold winter air, the sun setting slowly over the horizon? How many times has he imagined that? How many times has he come here?
Jongkook, for all his shortcomings, can see the questions in Rose’s eyes. He can see the hope slowly building, spilling over and replacing the initial fear of seeing him in front of her for the first time in over fifteen years.
“How have you been?” Rose is the one to break the strained silence.
“Did you marry him?” Jongkook can’t hold back the question another second. He needs to know. The desperation claws at his insides, threatening to tear him apart from the inside out if he doesn’t get the truth now while he has the chance.
“I… wouldn’t you know if I had? It’s not like we could exactly keep it a secret, could we?”
“You never know. This life makes us secretive.”
Rose swallows back the tears. “That’s one word for it.”
             “What word would you use?”
“Cruel.” She looks him dead in the eyes, pouring out all her feelings into that one little word. The way he looks back at her, shocked like a kicked puppy, fuels her anger but she swallows it. She pushes it down until she’s comfortably numb and can’t feel anything at all when she looks at him.
“I thought you had,” Jongkook admits, not missing the way her eyes slowly start to dim.
             “Did you now?”
For years he imagined what her life was like married to a man that wasn’t him. Did she have the life they planned out together all those years ago? The house on the hill with three children? What did her children look like? With Rae-Ah as a mother they couldn’t be anything less than adorable, but what exactly would they inherit from a father that wasn’t him? Jongkook always imagined two boys with his hair and one precious girl with the same crescent eye smile as her mother. Of course they’d all be fiercely stubborn like him but he prayed every night they’d end up with their mother’s golden heart. Is that what she really ended up with? Did Kangta give her everything Jongkook could only dream of?
Rose clears her throat. “I didn’t marry him. He deserved better than what I was giving him.”
             “What were you giving him?”
“Sex.” She says it so bluntly. “I was fucking him and he was wasting all him money on me. But isn’t that what you always expected out of me anyway?”
Jongkook visibly flinches at the old memory. That fight. Their last fight. He said so many stupid fucking things he didn’t even mean and for what? To hurt her? To push her away because he got scared of how deeply he was falling for her? She was becoming the only reason he was breathing and it terrified him. Instead of being a man and embracing what could’ve been the most beautiful love he ever experienced he hurled insult after indult at her, pushing her so far away she wouldn’t even be in the same country as him.
“I never meant any of that.” The excuse sounds pathetic to his own ears. “I know that makes nothing better, but Rae-Ah, I’ve changed.”
“Oh, how wonderful for you. You’ve changed. Shall I give you a round of applause?”
             “Stop hiding from me.”
Rose shakes her head. “I’m not. Not anymore at least. I just don’t want anything to do with you, can’t you understand that?”
“No.” Because every woman I look at can’t match up with you, can’t be you, can’t come close to the place you’ve permanently taken up in my heart. He doesn’t say any of that though. He doesn’t think he has the right to say any of that.
“Then you never will. Let me go, Jongkook.”
             “No.”
Their eyes meet once again. This time Jongkook refuses to let go of her gaze and meets what he finds there in her eyes head on. He sees through the burning hate, the exhausting frustration, the delicate hope trying to blossom once more, straight to what he wants the most. What he’s always wanted. Her love. Beneath everything else she still loves him. Eyes don’t lie.
“I’ll earn your love again,” he says like it’s certain. “We won’t part anymore.”
“Don’t be an idiot.” Rose’s eyes fall to his mouth, taking in the shape of his lips for the first time in close to two decades. He used to kiss her so passionately her brain would go absolutely fuzzy with pleasure.
“On the contrary, I think that might be the smartest thing I’ve ever said.”
Jongkook tilts his head down, brushing his lips across hers teasingly. It would be so easy to taste her, but he holds out despite his grip on reality slipping away with each tremor that passes through Rose’s body. She shakes like a leaf in his arms, terrified of how easily she’s giving in to him.
“Get away from me,” she whispers. “And leave me alone.”
             “Do you mean that?”
             “Let me go.”
He lets go and she takes a wobbly step back. “Stop contacting my friends, Jongkook. Stop contacting me. I don’t… I don’t want you.”
“You’ve said that to me before. Remember?”
1995
“I don’t want you!” Rose blurts out the sentence like if she says it loud enough they’ll just end up believing it.
Jongkook smiles crookedly, cupping her tiny face in his large hands. “You’re a terrible liar Kang Rae-Ah.”
“Mmm… whatever.” The steely resolve she came to Ihwa with is slowly melting the longer he clings to her. “The point is we can’t be together.”
             “Why?”
“Because…” Well, damn. She can’t think of one single good reason why she shouldn’t go after this with her whole heart. Except for maybe Jiyong. His face flashes in her mind and her chest constricts at the disappointment she imagines him looking at her with.
             He’s your senior, Rae-Ah.
             “Jiyong doesn’t want me to.”
             “Does Jiyong control your life?”
She rises to the bait just like he knew she would. “No!”
“Then from today on you’re mine, Kang Rae-Ah.”
Her eyes light up with a joy so pure Jongkook can’t help but lean in and kiss her right there. It’s quick, chaste, over in a breath, but when he pulls back she’s looking at him in complete awe. Her first kiss, he realizes belatedly. Well, fuck, he could’ve made it at least a little more romantic for her.
Before he can apologize properly she pounces on him, wrapping herself around him with ease. “Say it again!”
Jongkook laughs, the sound deep and rich in her ears. “You’re mine.”

Last Kiss
Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU
Pairing: Rose/KJK; Rose/Kangta
Tumblr media
1995
“Rae-ah? Rae-ah!” Jiyong snaps his fingers in front of Rae-ah’s face in an attempt to pull her attention away from, well, whatever it is she’s staring at slack-jawed and wonderstruck.
             “Who is that?”
             “Who?”
             “Him.”
Jiyong’s head snaps to the side to see exactly what she’s going on about only to come face to face with one of the ugliest guys he’s ever seen in his life. “Someone you don’t need to worry about.”
“Why?!” Rose’s chest puffs up and her cheeks turn red, indignation settling on her shoulders like a heavy blanket.
“You can do better. Plus…” Jiyong takes another look at the man. “That’s Kim Jongkook from Turbo. He’s our senior. Set your sights somewhere else.”
Rose glances at Jongkook forlornly, dedicating his name to memory.
“Come on, bunny.” Jiyong takes her by the arm and pulls her away from the building. Away from the glittering lights of the studio that seem to call Rose’s name with every flicker. “We should get back to practice.”
“When we debut I’m going to find him again.”
             “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah! I’m going to marry him one day.”
Jiyong shakes his head and ruffles her hair playfully. “Whatever you say, bunny.”
2002
“Rose… just come back home. Please.”
“No. Jiwon, I-I can’t. I can’t watch them together and pretend everything is okay.”
“No one’s asking you to do that, bunny. I mean, fuck, it’d be best if you never see the bastard again. I just want my little sister home.”
             “I’m late for work.”
             “Rae-ah-”
“I’ll talk to you later.” She hangs up the phone before he says another word. Before she breaks and agrees to go back home, throwing the life she worked so hard for to the wind because… because she’s weak. Because she misses a man so thoroughly, so deeply, so tragically she would do anything just to see him smile again. Even though he’s smiling for someone else now.
And that’s something Jiwon just can’t understand.
             He has his first love.
Rose has nothing but an old t-shirt that smells less and less like love every single day. He fades more and more with each second that passes and she’s so desperate to hold on to what used to be something so beautiful she subjects herself to second hand news and press photos of his new life. His new love.
“You’re thinking of him again, aren’t you?” Kangta pulls the phone out of her hand and takes a seat beside her on the bed. Their bed. Or at least Rose calls it their bed.
             Their bed.
             Their home.
             Their apartment.
             Their life.
But her love is still someone else’s.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers without knowing who she’s speaking to. Kangta? Or is it him?
             “Don’t be sorry.”
             “It’s been three years.”
             “Things take time.”
“I… I know. He’s already forgotten me but I’m the pathetic one who can’t let go of the past. I loved him. I would’ve done anything he wanted if it meant I could stay by his side. I would’ve left Sechskies for him.” The words pour out of her, the bottle she pushed all her feelings into coming completely uncapped. “I don’t understand! All these years later and I still don’t know why he left me or how he can just move on like he didn’t completely ruin me! Am I that ugly? That unlovable?”
Kangta is at a loss. Rose is the furthest thing from unlovable. Isn’t the fact that he’s here with her in the first place a sign of that? A sign of his devotion to her? Jesus fucking Christ, he’s in the middle of promoting an album, but he’s here in America with her because she called him crying the other night over that fucker once again. She heard the news. She saw the photos. His new relationship sent her carefully crafted new world crumbling to the ground. And who came to pick up the pieces without a second thought?
             Kangta.
“You know that’s not true,” he states simply. His tone, usually so warm and inviting, has a slight edge to it. “Rose, his short comings aren’t yours to bare. You may never get the answers you want from him and you need to stop thinking it’s because of something you’ve done. It’s not.”
             “But it is!”
He reaches out, cupping her face softly as his thumb strokes over her cheekbone and wipes away the stray tears. Her eyes melt into his, setting his chest on fire with the need to just make everything okay. Make her realize she’s more than enough for the right man. For him. He wouldn’t stay if she didn’t have his whole heart. It’s just that sometimes… sometimes he wishes he had hers.
             “Why is it your fault?”
She looks at him with those deep eyes and he swears he sees the memory reflected back in them, playing out like a scene from a movie.
1999
“Oppa!” Rose rushes forward, grinning ear to ear. There’s a bounce in her step as she approaches Jongkook, the rain doing nothing to dampen her spirits or her beauty.
He takes in the sight of her- hair curling softly and cheeks flushed from exertion- with a gentle smile that doesn’t even come close to reaching his eyes. “Rosie.”
Rose runs her hands up his biceps and lets them continue moving up so she can sling her arms around his neck and pull him down for a kiss. Instead, he lifts her up, his strong arms supporting her as she wraps her legs around his waist. He’s the one to initiate the kiss. His mouth is firm against hers, demanding she follow his lead as he steals the breath straight from her lungs. He wants to remember this. Wants to remember her. Her taste, her scent, her body pressed so firmly against his it’s almost as if they’re one.
“Rosie,” he repeats like the sweetest prayer.
“Yes?” She tilts her head to the side, eyes full of trust.
“We need to see other people.”
             “W-what?”
Jongkook sets her down gently. “We need to see other people. You want so much and I just can’t give it to you. Not now.”
“Jongkook,” Rose shakes her head as she speaks, smile slipping to a horrified expression. “All I want is you.”
“Then you should want less.” He can’t look at her. Can’t meet her eyes. “I’ve brought your things for you. They’re in my car.”
He doesn’t mention the scarf from last winter that he’s still got shoved in the back of his t-shirt drawer. Because he can’t part with that. Not everything.
“Do… do you want your things back?” She sounds so hurt, so defeated that he almost says fuck it and takes her back to his place- their place really- and forgets the whole mess. He doesn’t want to do this. Not really. It’s just that the world won’t be kind to them or their relationship. Who is he to put her through all of that just for his own selfish desires? Just because he wants to fuck her for a while before moving on?
“Keep it,” he says because it’s just the easiest thing to do at this point. Cut everything off right now. “I don’t need anything from you.”
“Why are you doing this to me?” Her words echo around only to be met with a blank stare. “I love you.”
“Don’t. You don’t know what love is anyway.”
Rose isn’t sure how right he is. She knows her members love her and they would never do anything like this to her. She knows the fans, her precious yellowkies, love her and would protect her with their last breath. She knows she would do all of that and more for Jongkook.
             “Don’t leave me,” she begs.
Jongkook pushes her away so they’re arm’s length apart.

So Did I
Series: Sechskies 7th Member AU
Pairing: Rose/Sechskies
Tumblr media
1999
“Where are you going?” Jaeduck focuses all the attention on Rose with one simple question. He feels almost guilty, but it’s not like Rose to just sneak off. She doesn’t keep secrets from anyone, least of all Jaeduck.
“Oh, uh, nowhere. Just out for some air.”
“Air?” Jiwon fixes her with a knowing look. “Come on, bunny. Don’t lie.”
“I’m not! This studio is stuffy and I need a break!” She storms out dramatically, tiny feet stomping across the tiled floor.
“Is air code for KJK?” Jiyong smirks as he stretches out his tired limbs.
“KJK!” JaiJin cups his hands around his mouth and repeats the initials with glee. “About time our Rosie got laid.”
Jiwon glares at the two boys. “She can do better than him.”
“Yeah?” Sunghoon’s tone is challenging. “Like who?”
“And don’t say a H.O.T member,” Suwon adds.
“Even one of those guys would be better than that muscle head.”
Shocked silence falls across the studio. None of them would’ve ever expected that amount of hate, that amount of pure venom, in Jaeduck’s tone.
“Jaeduck...” Jiwon approaches the younger boy carefully. “Do you know something we don’t?”
“Assuming that would not be incorrect.”
“And what is it you know?”
Jaeduck’s eyes shift from Jiwon, to the door Rose walked out of, back to Jiwon, then to the floor. “Hesgoingtobreakherheartandleaveherallalone.”
Sunghoon smirks. “That oddly sounds like what you say when you don’t want to say what you know.”
Jaeduck pouts. “He’s going to dump her. She thinks... she thinks he’s proposing.”
JaiJin’s eyes practically pop out of his head. “And you didn’t stop her?! What the fuck?!”
Chaos descends. Everyone starts bickering with everyone else and Jiyong sits in the midst of it, playing out each possible ending in his mind. Most aren’t pretty. Some end with a little blood being shed. Jiyong can’t come up with one single scenario where Rose isn’t utterly devastated.
“Should we stop her?” Suwon asks quietly.
Sunghoon rolls his eyes. “Should we stop our best friend from getting her heart broken?”
“Yes?”
The two boys stare at each other for a moment before jumping up in unison.
“Sit,” Jiwon orders. “None of us are going anywhere.”
Thirty minutes pass.
Then another thirty.
Then two hours.
Jiwon blinks and it’s been six hours since Rose went to meet Kim Jongkook with no sign of her return.
“Nice judgement call, hyung.” Jiyong runs a hand through his hair before rubbing his tired eyes and getting up. “I’m going to go look for her.”
JaiJin nods. “I’ll go with you.”
“No. I know where she is and I know you’ll only make it worse. No offense.”
He holds up his hands. “None taken.” He knows he’s not the best when it comes to comforting Rose.
Just like Jiyong told JaiJin, he knows exactly where to find Rose. She only goes to one place when she’s upset, spending hour after hour there. He finds her among the flowers back behind their apartment building, nurturing them, helping them grow, taking her sadness and pushing it to the back of her mind.
“He left me,” she whispers when she hears Jiyong behind her. “I’m sure he had his reasons.”
“I’m sure none of them were that good.”
Rose looks at him with a sad smile. “Jiyong, thank you.”
“For what?”
“I know feelings aren’t your forte and comforting me makes you feel awkward. Thank you for doing it anyway.” She stands and wraps her arms around his shoulders. “You’re one of the only men I’ve never been disappointed by.”
Jiyong puts his hands on the small of her back, pressing his nose to the top of her head. He debates telling her she’s wrong. Comforting her doesn’t make him feel awkward. It’s surprisingly easy. Everything about their relationship is easy.
“Maybe you should meet better men,” Jiyong says instead.
2013
“Maknae!” Suwon’s voice is loud and annoying over speaker phone. “Did you hear the news?”
Rose flips on the light switch for the kitchen, heading immediately for the fridge and the bottle of wine she’s been craving all day. “About?”
“Hyung.”
“What’s JaiJin done now?”
“Not JaiJin. Jiyong.” There’s a brief pause. “RaeAh, you should check your mail.”
“My mail? I didn’t get anything-“ She’s interrupted by a knock at the door. “Suwon, I’ll call you back.”
“Bunny, this is-“
But she’s already hung up.
“Who is it?” Rose asks in English.
“I have a parcel for RaeAh Kang?”
She opens the door for the delivery man, gasping when she sees the large box in his hands. “Oh, but I wasn’t expecting anything.”
The delivery man shrugs. “All I do is deliver where I’m told.” He shoves the package at her unceremoniously. “Have a good evening, ma’am.”
Rose curses under her breath in Korean as she lugs the package inside. “Rude Englishman.”
Without looking at any labeling, she tears open the box, crying out in frustration when it only leads to another box. Then that box leads to a box, and another, and another, and another until Rose is about to give up completely. When she finally reaches the end she drops the paper as if it burned her. Every nerve ending in her body springs to life along with her natural reflex to gag at the sight.
Please come, the note reads.
Attached to the note is a gorgeous wedding invitation with Jiyong’s name written in gold lettering.
“Idiot,” she whispers fondly. “Of course I’ll come.”
Even if she is slightly sick at the thought of a wedding. She’s stayed away from them ever since ‘99.
But if it’s for Jiyong...
She’ll just have to suck it up.
The months drag by at an agonizing pace. She counts down to the wedding. Three months, three weeks, three days, three hours. It does nothing to quell her anxiety or apprehension. So she focuses on her breathing. On Jiyong’s warm hand pressed against the small of her back and the thrum of his strong heartbeat in his chest.
“I’ve missed you,” he says simply.
“Still not one for grand love declarations, I see.” She keeps her tone light. Teasing. She doesn’t want him to hear just exactly how on edge she is.
“Never.”
That’s fine. Rose can see the love in his smile and that’s more than enough.
“Jiyong... did you invite...” How pathetic is she? She can’t even say his name.
Jiyong shakes his head. “No.”
“Okay.” It’s for the best anyway.
“RaeAh-“
Rose holds up her hand. “Unless what you’re about to say to me is anything other than a love confession you can save it. I’m not some sad little girl pining over a man who never really wanted me in the first place. I’m a grown woman. Now,” she smooths out his suit, flashing him a loving grin. “Let’s get you married, yeah?”
Jiyong nods, still completely unconvinced. “I always thought this would be you.”
“Getting married first?”
“Sure.”
Rose shrugs, the late afternoon sunlight casting a hazy glow around her. “So did I.”

Eternal Flame?
After last week’s My Little Old Boy episode, speculation around Turbo’s Kim Jong Kook and Sechskies’ Rose became front page news. Jong Kook admitted to comparing every new woman in his life to the first woman he ever fell in love with (and almost married).
“They just never stack up to her image,” the singer bemoaned to a friend. “Sometimes I think I’m just waiting for her to come back.”
“Where’s she at now?”
“Somewhere far from me. I thought she would be the one I married but I was always too scared to be a man and ask her.”
This dialogue sparked massive debate online as netizens did their best to decode the woman’s identity; however, there was one idol in particular that modern day Sherlock Holmes’s of the internet kept going back to.
Rose.
Kang RaeAh of infamous group Sechskies.
She was his first real girlfriend and they’ve never kept that a secret, one user wrote. Why couldn’t she also be his first love?
I think it’s Rose for the simple fact no one can ever compare to her 😂 not to mention she might be in that new relationship. Maybe KJK is a little jealous? 🤔
Rose. We been knew. Next.
Some netizens were even brave enough to contact former Sechskies member (and Rose’s best friend) Ko Jiyong on the matter.
His response?
Stop asking me about Rose’s love life, captioned on an Instagram post of the two of them.

Rose must be exhausted 😂 and I have the picture of Tony following her around like a lost puppy in my head now
Tony loves Rose and would follow her into a burning building.
“She’s charming,” is his only answer but there has to be more. He’s secretly in love with her. They’re a secret couple. Something like that. No one does the things he does for her without a catch.
“No, it’s nothing like that.” Tony is quick to correct misinformation. “She means a lot to Jaeduck and I feel bad for everything I put her through in the past when we were rivals. That’s all.”
Jaeduck agrees. They’ve had so many at length conversations about this. But still... the sight of Tony following Rose around like a duck behind its mother is cute and Jaeduck teases him at every turn.
