I headcannon that seawings have black blood which means they have copper based blood. Copper based blood Is more efficient in transfering oxygen when under cold or low oxygen conditions which would allow them to travel the ocean depths easier. Creatures who can breath on land and in water all thave frilly gills, and it makes sense why seawing would have frilly gills. This would make them able to be on land for far longer if they just had regular gills.

seawing headcanons
i love Seawings they are def my fav tribe so take some basic headcanons
Seawings are one of the bigger wof tribes, but they can range from any size some can be very small and others can be bigger than a whale (really rare) they are usually 14ft - 24ft
Seawings can have little tendrils around their snout, usually on males
Glowing tips on their ears and tendrils and those weird little things on their chin
long hooked talons
There are multiple types of seawings each adapted to a certain environment
Polar seawings: fluffy, they are bigger than usual seawing, less light up scales, whale tails, usually dark blues and purples
Open water Seawings: normal Seawing but way bigger, shark or whale tails, usually sea green or teal
Reef or Tropical Seawing: very small, very colorful, can change some of their scale colors, flowy and elegant tails, long snout like a seahorse
Deep water Seawings: whole body is bioluminescent and they have and anglerfish antenna, these ones are usually blind, usually white, black or a pale blue
River Seawings: smaller than saltwater Seawings, usually green, salmon or a murky teal, they can swim up waterfalls unlike the other seawings
Saltwater Seawings: they are just normal
Seawings can be any color
Seawings have teeth like sharks
They have a second clear eyelid
seawings use facial expressions, hand movements, clicks, and whistles like dolphins and whales as apart of aquatic
seawings have american and British accents, higher class seawings like coral or whirlpool have British accents, civilians like riptide, and webs have american accents
Seawings are usually very muscular because of all the swimming they do
Seawings can have blowholes (bro idk don't ask me)
Seawings keep pet dolphins and otters
Seawings have strong claws and teeth for opening oysters
Lower and Middle class Seawings use coral, fishing nets and seaweed as accessories
Seawings have boats
Seawings have the most palaces out of any tribe

WOF tribe Merchant/Trading booth concepts:
Hey folks! This one was the recent winner of this WOF poll, so here’s my concept art that headcannons trading in Pyrrhia.
Read below cut for close-ups of the individual booths + the thought process / headcannons behind the design choices: 👇
Skywings: The Sky Kingdom’s mountain ranges provide plenty of pasture for raising sheep. As such, Skywing shepherds benefit from traveling to sell their wool, dyes, fabric, and woven tapestries. Many of these merchant tables also include herbs grown exclusively in the mountains, or ibex drinking horns that can be strapped on a dragon’s shoulder & carried in flight.
Along with goods, Skywing merchants may offer sewing services to fix tears, burn marks, or other fabric damage. They are sought out for their quality clothing, and most fabric across Pyrria originated from a Skywing’s talons.
Mudwings: Mudwings’ abundant food & cooking skills are envied almost anywhere in Pyrrhia. Their swamps have fertile soil, responsible for hosting diverse crops which can be purchased as produce at merchant stalls. For those lucky enough to find a traveling Mudwing merchant, the promise of a delicious dish can be whipped up and served at the stall in no time. Along with produce goods, Mudwings sell weaved baskets, spices, and cooking ware.
Sandwings: Sandwing booths offer luxuries of the desert: It’s most common to find accessories such as gold carved jewelry or musical instruments such as drums, lyres, & mandolins for sale. Though, even more sought out across Pyrrhia is Sandwing tattoos/piercings, which are done within the merchant areas. Ink etchings on papyrus paper are stationed outside their tents to showcase designs. All which can be selected, and poked into the skin with a tapping stick and plant dye ink by a trained talon.
Seawings: SeaWings sell a variety of ocean related goods; taking a share in the fish market with Icewings. Outside of food, there are den decorations like driftwood carvings, accessories such as seashell & pearl jewelry, and rope nets weaved by expert Seawing sailors. Some Seawings even sell fishing equipment, canoes, or offer sailor knot tying instructions to curious dragon buyers.
Nightwings: During the war, it was near impossible to find a Nightwing merchant. Most refused to participate in merchant territory, mostly as a way to keep up with their tribe’s mysterious nature.
Though in the more shady, unground parts of the market you can buy from a huge selection of obsidian weaponry, the sharpest in Pyrrhia. No one knew initially how Nightwings smithed so many weapons, or why, until their secret volcano kingdom and the intention to invade the rainforest was discovered. Then forging armor & weapons became clear. Along with a vast armory, for the right price, some Nightwing merchants offer Prophecies & Nightwing Literature (not always guaranteed to always be reliable) and assassin services as well (very reliable).
Rainwings: Though Rainwings haven’t been part of Pyrrhia trading for years, they have a vast hold on dragon medicine. An apothecary of herbs, salves, and remedies are all offered for various ailments due to the rainforest’s abundant resources. Along with medicinal goods, many Rainwings are fruit vendors, promising to any hesitant meat-eating dragons that such an array of flavors isn’t to be missed. Though, their fruit selling pitches often fall flat to most other predominantly meat-eating tribes.
Icewings: Icewings have everything a dragon could need to brace the cold, with a selection of goods only found in the most frigid regions of Pyrrhia. Furs, bone jewelry, and fresh fish (thanks to frost breath) are served on ice. Though Icewings themselves don’t require fur to withstand the cold, it’s considered fashionable and common in upper ranks to wear fur as a status symbol. Since metal is hard to smith without fire & in cold temperatures, fur and bone are more accessible to Icewings for clothing statements.

Tribe variations: seawings
Here comes the next part of the tribe variations! I see you liked my previous post on this topic with Icewings, so here is the continuation. I see most people wanted seawings, and in the wof community people REALLY like seawings variations, so here they are! Who do you want to see next: skywings, leafwings or nightwings?

Here’s what I think growing up in a dark cave and only having river water would do to tsunami :)
Ik that technically none of this would make sense in real life, and this type of evolution would only take place after a long time BUT A GIRL CAN DREAM OK.
Just some headcannons that I think would make her more diff and interesting

Became curious based on a Smaugust piece: What are your thoughts on everyone's favorite royal suck-up, Pike? (also ofc compliments to your writing and art)
Surprise, I am still kicking. And thus my Sisyphean quest to answer all the questions in my inbox continues.
I like Pike. I used to think moderately favorably of him, but pondering this question and then drawing a bunch of pictures of and about him made me realize that, yeah, I am rather fond of him. He is funny and cute in the same way a small, yappy dog is.
I remember once talking to my partner about Pike and I asked: "Do you think the JMA staff has to deal with Pike constantly trying to sleep in the hallway in front of Anemone's room?" Only to then realize, upon re-reading the books, that this actually happens in canon. I was thrilled.
Most of the time when people ask me what I think of a character, they want to hear what my take on them is, so I'll get into that.
Background
I don't think a lot is known about Pike's life, outside him having been assigned as Anemone's (questionably) covert bodyguard. He is one of those background characters that fill out the student roster at JMA but don't get a lot of development, though he is one of the more lucky ones as he gets comparatively more lines and scenes than, say, Barracuda, or Garnet.
We don't ever hear about his home life or familial situation, but I think he comes from a common military family. Not a particularly prestigious one, but rather one of middling significance. I imagine one of his ancestors--like his great grandmother--once made it to captain and ever since the whole family has prided themselves on their military legacy and loyalty to the Seawing throne, even though nobody else really knows who they are.
Pike's parents are both bottom rung palace guards; trusted enough to be stationed vaguely near the seat of government over a remote outpost, but nothing more. As is tradition in their family, they signed up as soon as they were old enough to hold a trident. Pike was expected to follow in their footsteps, and so did the same. He is naturally eager to please, doesn't ask many questions, and knows how to follow orders, so he took to this life relatively well.
One thing immediately apparent when observing Pike is that he is very blunt, headstrong, and reckless. He is prone to self-injury and mishaps, routinely making a tail end of himself during exercises. One day, I imagine, he was out in the courtyard, practicing his combat maneuvers, when he somehow managed to trap himself underneath a training dummy in a humiliating way. Unbeknownst to him, the Queen and Princess were walking past a window overlooking this scene, and the latter happened to spot him.
Princess Anemone, starved for normal social contact due to being permanently leashed to her overbearing mother, immediately took a liking to the clumsy guard and wished to take Pike into her service. The Queen though, hated the idea. Anything she couldn't control with 100% certainty was not to be let near her only living daughter. She didn't even let her own sons approach the Princess for this very reason. So she refused.
But Anemone, sensing an opportunity to finally snatch a tiny mote of control over her own life, didn't relent. She would never overtly defy her mother, but pushed back against her in the most passively aggressive way she could muster. She WOULD have this one thing that was hers, no matter how many times she had to sigh wistfully or forget to eat.
Coral meanwhile still disliked the idea, but after some pondering figured this could work to her advantage. Granting her daughter this favor would make her grateful, and thus easier to keep in check. It was not like the boy would be able to do anything undesirable since she would always be there to watch anyway. And if he ever displeased her, a random guard was easier to dispose of without turning heads, than if she let Anemone play with one of her brothers.
So eventually, she acquiesced, and extracted Pike from the palace guard to assign him to her daughter's protection.
The news hit Pike's family like lightning. Suddenly, after decades of being nobodies with delusions of grandeur, the whole palace was paying genuine attention to them, and the new recruit who, overnight, got assigned to be the Princess' personal retainer. Pike's parents took him aside and impressed on him how important of a task this was. If he did his job well and kept the Princess content and safe, not only would the current Queen think favorably of all of them, but Anemone would remember his service and reward him once she took the throne herself. For his sake and theirs, this was an opportunity not to be squandered.
And thus, Pike shouldered this great responsibility suddenly thrust onto his wings and embraced being Anemone's personal servant and protector. Pushed forward by his sense of honor and loyalty, a desire not to disappoint his family, and the knowledge that, if he were to fail and lose the only heir, Queen Coral would surely kill him.
Day-to-day life
Pike takes his duty very seriously, both out of loyalty to his liege, and because of how much is at stake for him personally. I picture him getting up during the small hours each morning and beginning his daily exercise routine, to stay in shape for his job. His roommate Flame often wakes up to him noisily doing squats in the middle of the sleeping cave and yells at him. "Am I cursed to be tormented by a diminutive idiot Seawing wherever I go!??!" Pike is lucky that his other roommate, Bigtail, is a heavy sleeper. Otherwise the training session would likely be cut short, with Pike tied to the ceiling lamp.
After wrecking Flame's sleep, Pike usually seeks out Anemone and attempts to stay near her at all times. Initially this caused friction between him and the teachers, as he would often skip his own classes to attend Anemone's. He only stopped doing this when Tsunami made it clear skipping classes would get him sent home, and thus away from Anemone permanently.
As they spent time at the Academy, the Princess began to get better and better at giving Pike the slip whenever she got fed up with his overprotectiveness. He freaks out whenever she vanishes, which is often. To help manage his stress, the JMA staff make him attend regular seminars on inner peace and meditation hosted by Fatespeaker. He is not very good at it, but enjoys the exercises that involve listening to running water.
He began to mellow out for a bit after initial growing pains, until the History cave incident occurred. The bombing shook him back into the bodyguard mindset and he began sleeping in the hallway outside of Anemone's sleeping cave. It weirds out Ostrich whenever she has to climb over him. Attempts to get him to stop this have been unfruitful. The current policy seems to be to let him do this until things calm down and he stops on his own.
Anything else
I believe Pike may have a thing for Rainwings. He is generally hyper-aggressive and rude towards everyone he talks to, with two notable exceptions. One of them is Anemone, whom he is sworn to serve and keep safe. The other is Tamarin, whom he is uncharacteristically kind to. My personal impression is that he may have a bit of a crush on her, but keeps himself from pursuing it as to not upset Anemone.
To my knowledge, Pike never really interacts with Turtle. That is a shame, because I would like to know how they would get along. Pike may be greatly disappointed at Turtle's general un-regal-ness, but still begrudgingly respect him out of obligation. I can picture a scene where he berates Turtle for his demeanor, only for someone else to chime in with an affirmative "Yeah Turtle, you suck", upon which Pike turns around and starts ripping into them about disrespecting Seawing royalty.
Concerningly, Pike's future is very uncertain. He is actually in grave danger right now. If Queen Coral ever finds out that he allowed a murderous, seawing-hating ancient wizard to abduct Anemone, she will have some opinions on that. If Coral has one consistent character trait, it is homicidal vengefulness against anyone who fails to protect her children, regardless of circumstance, regardless even if the perpetrator IS one of her children. That means there is a very real chance she will recall Pike from Jade Mountain and try to tear him apart.
I don't think Anemone would allow this to happen, mind you. She has been privy to her mother dragging poor sods out to the plaza to rip their teeth out, enough to recognize the signs of it coming. If she suspected Pike's life was in danger, I believe she would prevent him from leaving.
For now though, he remains at Jade Mountain, doing the best he can with the responsibility he was dealt, acting as Princess Anemone's retainer. It is a difficult, stressful, at times thankless job, but he would not have it any other way.
"Honor, and duty."

Character doodle suggestions I took requests for, now I’m going to yap about them
Queen Wasp was first. I originally was going to do all of them pastel like hers, but I had to much fun with the brighter colours later on so she ended up a lot more washed out than intended. Still, after book 15 I imagine her with dull, greenish scales now she’s without the breath of evil, like it was sustaining her, or she was sustaining it.
Typhoon was fun, I’ve never drawn him before and just kinda messed around with his design. I didn’t check the wiki to remember anything before drawing these so if I’ve forgotten something important about them…oops!
Snowfall was alright, I love IceWings as a tribe, but I hate drawing them because I’m just not very good at it lol. I’m just never happy with how I do their spikes, and I can’t colour them in a way that looks good. It’s definitely just a skill issue, because the tribe I draw most often are NightWings, which use a completely opposite colouring method that I’m much more practiced with now because of that, but I’m still going to complain about it.
There’s not much to say about Scarlet. She’s Scarlet! She’s cool! I like drawing her! Next!
I wish I was better at designing jewellery because Arctic and Foeslayer in their matching formal attire could look so cool if it was done by anyone other than me. For this one I head canon that when dragons are under the effect of animus magic, their eyes tint towards the scale colour of the dragon who cast the spell, so Foeslayer’s are blue-ish because of Arctic’s protection spell. Also I worry I draw her too green sometimes for a NightWing but eh I think it looks nice.

Updated designs for these guys!
Here’s some Ideas/Headcanons I have for the tribes:
For all tribes:
-they don’t use any weapons outside of daggers maybe (bro you’re a quadrupedal creature, using a spear or sword or bow is not gonna work how you want it to, and you have claws and teeth plus fire or venom??? You have weapons built in bro) it just looks dumb to me, like what are you doing.
-Dragons Never stop growing like crocs
SkyWings:
-Most aggressive and bad tempered but not unfairly so, they don’t trust strangers and are much less friendly out of caution.
-prefer poultry and red meat, fish not so much, they also like to smoke their meat for special events.
-Hatchlings are capable of flying and breathing fire within a few months of their lives, quicker than most other tribes.
-their horns are the longest of any tribe and they take great pride in them, most (especially nobles) adorning them with jewelry.
-when on the ground they sometimes use their wings as extra arms, holding onto something for example.
-they are the best blacksmiths out of tribes, their craftsmanship is respected even amongst other tribes.
-they are almost completely fireproof, which is why they rely on their teeth and claws when fighting amongst themselves, their flames range is also the furthest and they can breathe fire the longest without stopping.
-Firescales have to touch another Skywing for a longer time to do damage.
-they have the best endurance when it comes to flying and they are also the fastest. They hold annual races.
-like birds of prey, they have insanely good eyes. They can see the furthest out of all tribes.
-during the before mentioned races they paint their wings with cool patterns just like they do during war, however the patterns are different, the Warpaint pattern is darker and rougher.
-their teeth are similar to that of medium to large theropods, they rely mostly on their fire an less on their bite as it’s a bit lower due to their longer necks.
-their eggs are white and long. Usually only laying one per clutch.
SeaWings:
-relatively sociable, suspicious at first but especially once they get to know you they act like they never had a problem with you in the first place.
-obviously they prefer fish but also crustaceans and other sea creatures, SeaWings living more up north, hunt seals.
-second strongest bite force, also their main weapon.
-very round scales and thick skin.
-Hatchlings need to stay underwater for the first few months of their lives as their lungs finish developing.
-Short but very curvy horns, their "whiskers" vary severely between individuals.
-their glowscales vary in size and sometimes even in quantity, I think they use them mostly region-wise (face, tail for example) and then by how often they flicker (like morse code maybe?).
-Most of their jewelry consists of seashells and pearls, but also of platinum and Gold.
-they are expert tattoo artists (just like sandwings) and they take pride in their underwater murals.
-their sails/frills also vary a lot, there are several variants, some more wavy.
-Seawing families living in colder water up north have developed a bit of blubber over the generations.
-they have pharyngeal jaws (like sharks), their teeth are also a bit more flat like most sharks.
-Medium to large in size. (Everything in the ocean is big so why not)
-their eggs are round, a bit reflective and darker shades. SeaWings may lay up to 5 eggs per clutch but usually ist between 2 and 3.
Sandwings:
-small to medium in size.
-amicable tribe, they often help dragons stranded in the desert.
-they have the second most fire resistant scales, while hotter fire and longer exposure will do eventually do damage getting blasted for a bit does nothing.
-they have keen senses, their sense of hearing and smell being the best.
-they can go without eating or drinking for weeks without issue.
-they have naturally warmer scales (like Skywings do).
-Sandwings love jewelry and accessories in general, they like decorating themselves with all kinds of stuff, like tattoos and piercings.
-Hatchlings hatch with more pronounced markings (like lion cubs), sometimes they stay that prominent even into adulthood.
-sandwing eggs are dark in color, Sandwings lay up to 2 in a clutch.
-sails are unique and every Sandwing looks different, they like to adorn them with piercings and other accessories.
-they also like to take sun naps, not nearly as long or often as Rainwings but they enjoy the sun.
-rely mostly on their barbs but also claws and teeth when fighting, less so fire.
Leafwings:
-Medium to large, (trees can get real big)
-eggs are long and pale. They may lay up to 3 eggs a clutch.
-omnivorous but mainly meat, fruits and vegetables are usually just a side dish or snack.
-their scales change to duller hues in during winter, patterns stay the same though.
-hatchlings are pale and only get more saturated if exposed to sun, like rainwings.
-they have lots of golden accessories along with colorful cloths and gemstones.
-leading tribe in toxicology, they know their plants and how to use em, and they love their spices.
-they have the second longest tail of all tribes and like Rainwings use them to hold onto branches when perched in Trees.
-while they are typically shades of Green or Brown/Orange, they may also have accents of all kinds of colors to varying degrees.
-they have Treehouses but also build stone temples, their Royal Palace is a rather large one with large gardens.
Silkwings:
-all silkwings have "fur" but some have less and some have more, typically it’s a line down their spine to their tail tip.
-they are omnivorous, mainly eating fruits and the like, but every now and then they will eat meat to balance out their diet.
-they have the shortest claws out of all tribes, which makes sewing and the like much easier for them, which it’s why it’s what most Silkwings do as a job.
-their wings patterns and shape is their most unique feature, they are also relatively quiet during flight.
-while Silkwings are typically very colorful they may have black accents (almost every butterfly has black so how tf are the butterfly dragons not gonna have some)
-they have the weakest biteforce, and rather weak claws, they are naturally pacifists.
-Silkwings have long thin tongues, cuz why not.
-it’s common for Silkwings to braid and generally style their hair, adding cuffs and other things like hair clips.
-they also have relatively weak scales, they’re a rather weak tribe, but flamesilks are about as fire resistant as Sandwings.
-eggs are small and round, per clutch it’s usually 3-4.
Rainwings:
-laziness is not normal, before the main story Rainwings were much more active and kept track of their eggs
-eggs are round and small, very similar to snake eggs, 2 max per clutch.
-Rainwings are the second smallest tribe.
-their frills are essentially and extension of their ears.
-they require meat at least 3-4 times a week.
-only tribe, aside from Hivewings, to have fangs.
-their jewelry consists of flowers, gemstones and feathers mainly, but cloth is also often used.
-longest tail out of all tribes, parents sometimes carry hatchlings with them.
-shorter horns, usually curvy.
-scales get duller with age, and elder ones change scale color less.
-very curved claws to help em climb, also useful when hunting.
-Short wings like harpy eagles so flying through trees is easier.
-eyecolor cannot change neither can the horns nor claws or mouth.
-the older the individual the duller the scale color.
Mudwings:
-largest tribe, also strongest tribe.
-due to needing to have a higher body temp to be able to breathe fire, they rely on teeth, claws and overall strength.
-strongest bite force, one bite can amputate a leg with ease.
-they may have different variants of tusks, male typically have larger ones.
-slowest flyers, the prefer the ground.
-Fire is more magma like, more liquidity.
-the usually have 2 sets of horns, 1 large and 1 small.
-eggs are large and typically tan to dark brown with spots, 6 eggs per clutch sometimes even 8.
-younger individuals are typically kinder, and more likely to help.
-they have shorter but incredibly strong tails.
-wings are more round in shape, and are used as extra legs sometimes.
-require a lot of meat, all different kinds, prefer red.
-jewelry usually consists of different kinds of metals and such, imbedded with gemstones and old tusks.
-mudwings love play-fighting and sparring and will do so often with their siblings, very good fighters.
Nightwings:
-strong bite, maybe 3rd strongest.
-more nocturnal, but are perfectly functional during the day.
-their flames have tints of different colors, unique to every individual.
-some have more star scales than others, depending on how starry the night was when they hatched.
-strong sense of smell and very good eyesight.
-veils, and a bunch of jewelry imbedded with gems and crystals, they like their silver and gold.
-eggs are oval and black with hints of different colors.
-their wings have accents of different colors at the edges or in the middle, usually the brightest part of their body.
-Fire is very Smokey, their range isn’t that far either but it’s the second hottest fire.
-typically only 1 egg per clutch, 2 is rare.
-Mindreaders will have one teardrop scale for each moon they were born under, so all 3 would be 6.
-Prophets will have one starscale on their forehead for each moon they were born under, all 3 would be 3.
-padded feet like t-rex makes them quite even on the ground.
Icewings:
-blood varies from violet to more turquoise on the spectrum.
-claws are long and curved for extras grip but instead of be serrated, it’s their feet that are.
-the older the individual the more spines the will have.
-prefer to eat fish, but often eat red meat as well.
-eggs are long and white. Typically 1-2 per clutch.
-furs, silver and platinum are often seen, but royals will wear gold.
-teeth are long and thin, very similar to orcas.
-spines start growing along the horns as well, making them look similar to antlers.
-they are almost completely frostproof, as in, they cannot be hurt by frostbreath, or hypothermia.
-Frostscales are a thing, essentially the same as Firescales but frosty.
-about as trusting as Skywings, they are not particularly respectful either until you earn their respect.
-Medium to large in size, they grow incredibly large.
Hivewings:
-venom is more similar to Sandwing venom, and all of them have fangs and a barb, the strength of the venom varies though.
-most agile flyers, maybe even second in speed.
-teeth are thin and needle-like, the rely on their venom to weaken their opponents.
-piercings and warm colored Jewelry are a must, usually imbedded with ambers and other similar stones.
-loud during flight.
-blood is dark, almost black.
-eggs are oval and black, typically 1-2 eggs per clutch.
-very curved claws, good for holding onto things, for climbing too.
I may add some more as I come up with it!

Me??? Posting??? Art???? Who knew.
Did some fun little redraws I’ve been meaning to do pretty much since I read book 14…. But it’s ok I did them now!!!
The queens are technically a redraw of when they get introduced in book 3 but I didn’t draw the scene so it’s a redraw but not really. And Ghost is just my wof sona?? Maybe idk I like them tho.
Little redraw of this scene. I didn’t like the way Coral really looked in this scene if I’m being honest, no hate to the art or the artist the expression just looks wrong with the words she’s saying. Like when I first read this I did not get the memo and didn’t think that’s what she really meant soooo yk…. REDRAW
This was a scene I just thought was really funny and wanted to do a take on. I also wanted to draw Sunny bc I don’t think I’ve ever drawn her before so yk why not.
I thought it was funny and wanted to draw Lynx giving a massive side eye to Snowfall. All of their interactions in this book are fun and I wish there was more of it, honestly one of my favorite books, seeing everything from basically an outsiders perspective was really fun and Snowfall’s character development was just *chef’s kiss*.
Again another scene I thought was haha funny. I honestly just wanted to draw a freaked out Moon, which happens pretty damn often in these books like give my girl a break. I really wanna know whose brain she was in at the moment and what they really said to get her freaked out like that. I’m just curious….
Here’s a closeup of Ghost if anyone was wanting that, they turned out great and I really like the pose I put them in!

I headcanon that sewings have three categories of their tribe.
1) surface wings: are born out of water and rarely go into the water other than to keep moist. This is for a variety of reasons. Like a specific job, reason, can't swim for various reasons, or they just don't like water/have a fear of water.
2) shallow wings: go in and out of water without prejudice, or don't have a preference. They don't really care where their business takes place and don't mind the ocean or surface.
3) deep wings: never/rarely come to the surface. Seawings who dont come to the surface usually don't come up because of the other tribes, and because of their culture and upraising. They think of the sea as their only home and that the surface belongs to the other tribes.

Headcanon Designs #1
you guys sure like my headcanons and maybe my art???
So here is my first design
Its Whirlpool, everyone's favorite (I'm joking don't kill me)
I love how slimy I made him look but I hate the legs
Anyways I made him a backstory
Whirlpool was born in a very poor and crime ridden part of the Kingdom of the Sea. He was given a fierce name by his parents. Both of his parents were soldiers in Coral's mothers army. They wished that he'd join the army. Ironically, Whirlpool was very scrawny and hated to fight. He loved read and be alone. He was always stuck up and thought he was better than everyone. When he was older, his ego grew more and he had a lust for power. He started to lie to high ranking Seawings about his accomplishments. After a while, he climbed the social ladder and gained a job in the palace. He was one of the lower ranking advisors of the queen. Coral, then took power and she always thought Whirlpool was clever. She offered him a role in the Seawing council, and she let him oversee education. Whirlpool gained his place by fraud and lying. Years later, his thirst for power grew, however the Queen was already married to Gill and he believed that Orca was barbaric. And blah blah we know the rest of the story.
Also guys I dont like whirlpool as a character, his actions are horrible and disgusting
