Unveiling the Power of Dental Sealants: Your Shield Against Tooth Decay
Tumblr media
In today's blog, we're diving into the world of dental health, focusing on a powerful yet often underrated solution – dental sealants. As we navigate the bustling streets of our beautiful city, it's crucial to equip ourselves with the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain a healthy, radiant smile. Join us as we explore the wonders of dental sealants and their role in preventing tooth decay.
The Silent Culprit:
Tooth Decay Before we unravel the secrets of dental sealants, let's address the silent culprit threatening our pearly whites – tooth decay. Despite our best efforts in oral hygiene, the intricate surfaces of our molars can be challenging to clean thoroughly. This is where dental sealants step in, acting as a formidable barrier against decay.
Understanding Dental Sealants:
So, what exactly are dental sealants? Think of them as invisible shields for your teeth. These thin, protective coatings are typically applied to the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars, the areas most susceptible to decay. Composed of a safe, BPA-free plastic material, sealants create a smooth surface that prevents bacteria and food particles from settling into the tiny grooves and fissures of your teeth.
The Application Process:
Getting dental sealants is a quick and painless process. Our skilled dental professionals here in Charlotte will begin by thoroughly cleaning and drying the targeted teeth. Once prepared, a special gel is applied to the teeth to create a rough surface, allowing the sealant to bond effectively. The sealant is then carefully painted onto the tooth, and a curing light is used to harden the material. Voila! Your teeth are now fortified against the forces of decay.
The Benefits of Dental Sealants:
Prevention is Key: Dental sealants act as a proactive measure, preventing decay before it even has a chance to take hold.
Painless Protection: The application process is quick and painless, making it an ideal solution for both children and adults.
Long-lasting Defense: With proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, sealants can provide effective protection for many years.
Charlotte's Smile Revolution:
As we embark on this journey towards healthier smiles in Charlotte, let's embrace the power of dental sealants. Whether you're a parent looking out for your child's dental health or an individual invested in your own well-being, consider dental sealants as your secret weapon against tooth decay.
In a city as vibrant as Charlotte, our smiles deserve to shine just as brightly. Dental sealants offer a simple yet effective solution to safeguard our teeth from the perils of decay. Let's make preventive dental care a priority and keep our community smiling with confidence. Until next time, Charlotte – keep those smiles sparkling!

What is crack filling and sealant work?
Crack filling and sealant work is a process used to repair and prevent the deterioration of concrete surfaces by filling and sealing cracks in the concrete. Cracks in concrete can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as shrinkage, thermal expansion and contraction, drying shrinkage, and settling of the foundation. These cracks can allow water, dirt, and other contaminants to enter the concrete, which can weaken the structure and cause further damage over time.
There are several methods for filling and sealing cracks in concrete, including the following:
1. Crack injection: This method involves injecting a flexible sealant or grout into the crack using a pressure applicator. The sealant expands as it cures, filling the crack and forming a waterproof seal.
2. Epoxy injection: This method involves injecting a two-part epoxy resin into the crack using a pressure applicator. The epoxy resin hardens as it cures, filling the crack and providing a strong, durable repair.
3. Surface sealant: This method involves applying a sealant to the surface of the concrete over the crack. The sealant forms a protective barrier that prevents water, dirt, and other contaminants from entering the crack.
It is important to properly prepare the crack before filling or sealing it. This may involve cleaning the crack, removing loose debris, and applying a bonding agent to the surface to ensure a strong bond between the repair material and the concrete.

Sealants – Application in Construction Industry
Building a home is not an easy task as it requires a whole variety of different materials to be clubbed together. Substances like metal, glass, wood, concrete, glass, fibreglass and others find their places and have their uses in a structure. The joints at which these varied materials meet are a bit tough to seal as these different materials do not become the tightest bonds. Fortunately, there is a whole sort of building product curated for the sealing process – sealants. Through this blog, we at SD Conmix – the best construction materials suppliers will educate you about sealants and their applications in the construction industry.
Tumblr media
Sealants are materials that are utilised to block, seal, or cover gaps in between building materials to restrict air, fluids, pests and other things from passing through. The meeting point of the dissimilar materials is joint by sealants. They fill in any irregularities that might be present between the two surfaces. Sealants are also used in filling cracks in surfaces such as concrete and other stiff building materials.
Sealants are used to cover up gaps around windows and door trim or allow flexible adhesion between two surfaces. As the sealants restrict air and prevent other materials from passing through the gaps, they can retain a home keeping it comfortable in varied weather conditions.
It is natural to find sealants in a wide range of usages. Window and door installers will be covered with a sealant, creating an air-tight seal. The connection between framing lumber and concrete foundations can contain sealants. Other uses of sealants entail window glazing, and patching cracks in the concrete foundation, apart from seams around mouldings within the home. Wherever there is a gap for air, water, or insects to pass through, a sealant can do the trick.
There is a wide range of sealants available and each of them has its plus and minus points. Few sealants have limited application. They will work for one application but perhaps not for the other. Other sealants might be general usage targeted. This is why it is necessary to select the best sealant for the required task. The types of sealants used in construction are: Water Based, Acrylic, Butyl, Polysulfide, Silicone, Polyurethane, etc.
The benefits of using sealants from SD Conmix are varied. Their sealants have high viscosity, allowing them to still be at the applied surface, even on vertical joints. Hardness is one major property of an ideal sealant that makes it resistant to unwanted happenings like deformation. Sealants from SD Conmix are weather resistant and can bear extreme temperatures of sun and moisture, and at the same time, they remain flexible as and when needed.
Sealants from SD Conmix are examined by the ASTM C920 Standard Specification for Elastomeric Joint Sealants and are approved for their capability of movement and adhesion. Volatile Organic Compounds, which are respiratory irritants usually found in sealants are minimal in SD Conmix sealants. Ensuring the right sealant prevents unwanted expenses. The sealants from SD Commix are durable. Owing to the packaging, they can be stored for up to 12 months in a closed container in a dry and cool place.
Any sealant works efficiently when used correctly, however choosing the best option can pose a hurdle. No sealant is inferior or superior compared to others. The best sealant is chosen after assessing the performance properties of each kind of application. Cost cutting is essential but not at the expense of performance. Mulling over the best sealants for all your construction needs? Think no further than SD Conmix – the best RMC supplier for all your concrete material needs!

Suprise! Sword of sanctuary!
Tumblr media
The final piece of my morro cosplay is complete! I love it it actually came out so good. Had some trouble with the vinyl I used to make the blade gold but that's ok, it still looks really good! I'm especially happy with how the handle looks the colors are so pretty.
Materials used:
Sword base I found on amazon
Bowl I cut a hole in
Gold vinyl
Acrylic paint (multiple colors)
Modge podge (used as a sealent)
Hot glue (to secure bowl)
I'm going to a convention tomorrow so I'll try and remember to get some pictures of the full outfit with the sword!

What colours did you use to change a Sylvanian cat into Garfield? What would I need to make a ginger cat or Bengal kitty? Do I need something to treat them after painting?
Hi there! So what I used was a mix of perm orange gouche, paint fabric medium and a bit of water! You can also use fabric markers (they would need to be heat set), acrylic inks, or even watercolor!
Something else that helped a lot is wetting the figures flocking with a bit of water. If you have certain areas you want to be stained only wet that area. Basically, what you'll be doing is staining the flocking.
I left it to dry for a while (gave it about an hour or 2) before taking a paper towel and blotting where I painted to remove excess, once the excess is gone give it a look over to see if it has any missing spots if it does repeat until it's the color you want :)
For post painting I acutally didn't do anything sealent wise since my gouche is not water reactivated (once it's dry it will not lift) How ever if you are worry about color transfer id suggest using just the fabric medium and doing a thin coat over the painted areas, this will make sure the paint sticks to the fibers of the flocking and will help keep the paint flexible and prevent chipping
Happy customizing and if you have any other questions feel free to let me know!

Oops not me completely redoing wallys hair!! And repainting his face skin!! Dont worry it was a form of self care just workin on him today. It felt so good being away from a screen for 4 hours (conaidering i stare at one for 9 hours a day at work). Im already really liking his hair so far considering its not as dark from the glue. And i used the fluffy scraps of yarn from making the wefts to needle felt his lil pompadour so itll be super light on his head!! I also made a pattern for his sweater, i really really didnt like how his painted one looked so im just gonna sew him a new one. Which means another trip to joanns!! :o) hopefully they have a good soft blue knit and a yellow edge band. Maybe lil buttons too? The posibilities are endless....very excited!!
Also pro tip to anyone who does traditional crafts involving paint; buy liquid frisket. The brush on kind not the one in the squeezy bottle. I was able to mask off his eyes, mouth, and painted hair bits so that i could get an even coat of the yellow as well as redo his blush.

He may not look too different but trust me, the quality is MUCH better <3

My teeth are so fucking clean!
Thankfully, my teeth are in pretty good shape! I have some decalcification, plus some minor holes in my sealent they want to fill, which is, uh, pricey! I also have some acid damage due to my acid reflux, but nothing major!
All things considered, a good report for someone with shit dental hygiene! Now I just have to brush every day for the rest of my life...

Dick -> Rick process
AKA the other reason why I turned Dick into Rick Tyler (link) for my Infinity Inc lineup, so I could say "Rick Grayson arc" every other 2 seconds giggling to myself. But it did mean I was incentivized to take process pics of the mod, so now you can see how I do mods if it is something you were curious about.
(this is not intended to be a tutorial, just an informative post on what I do. I am still a newbie)
Ok so you start with the doll, first.
Tumblr media
The next thing I do is 'boil and pop', where I put the action figure in boiling water (not for super long, I usually go 40 seconds max unless the joint is being really wonky) and then take apart everything that can move. The reason why is so that I can use my dremel to sand down bits of the joints, so that when I paint them, there is not paint rub.
Tumblr media
i was having a hard time separating the little tiny wrist connectors they made from his forearms and the ankle connectors from his feet; i don't like them, so i just left them in and accepted there may be some paint rub there :P
anyway, then I used a dremel to sand down likely areas of paint wear (shoulder sockets, the top and bottom of that middle chest segment you see, all the knee and elbow connections, etc...)
and here he is after his dremelling process
Tumblr media
you can also see that I labelled various left and right body parts with a silver marker so i didnt get them mixed up :P
anyway then you re-assemble him using your boiling water. except I like leaving the heads off until the end, so that my body paint and apoxie is not blocked out by any hairstyles, and so that i can do head details easier if i am painting the head.
Tumblr media
next step is using the apoxie. I create whichever structure the toy needs that my current one didn't have. Nightwing is nice b/c he has no structure on his costume, so I didn't have to remove anything, just add Rick's gloves and boots. Other toys, like Talia (link) have much more involved apoxie, but Rick was easy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did do a light dusting of primer before painting him here, but if I use too much (especially if I try to get it in the joints, like I did for silver scarab) it gets tacky and sticky and makes my paint lumpy.
next step is painting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I'm done painting, I use sealent to protect the paint and let it dry. then I heat the top of the neck with a hairdryer (not boiling water, b/c i don't want to ruin the paint job) and stick his head back on.
Tumblr media
there is often some slight paint/apoxie imperfections but :P That is just a fact of life. and now I have my new doll DC has never made an action figure of before (at least of this costume :P but other characters I have modded, like Arella and Osiris, don't have action figures at all)
