How are SeaBaby and the other Weddell seals born in the Vernadsky area this year? There are 6 cubs in total: 4 boys and 2 girls. All of them feel well and actively grow. Our polar explorers monitor the animals' condition during hiking trips or using drone. —National Antarctic Scientific Center

ok. somebody keeps calling this hovercraft. I’m not even close to anything of an expert but I’ve only just looked up hovercraft right after dam breach. and I thought hovercraft is typically referring to air cushion transportation. these I thought was dual hull catamaran type.
invite anyone to correct me on this.
thought these types just go very fast and highly maneuverable.

have you seen mermaid byler? i dont usually vibe with aus but this art specifically convinced me! its so sensual.

Ohhhhh OK!! That art is soooo nice. Wow. Sensual indeed, hmmmm. I can't stop looking at it. I have to admit, as much as I like horror and scifi and Stranger Things and weird stuff - I'm not much of a monster fucker fan hahaha but you know what I mean? Vampires and werewolfs and cryptids and other nonhuman/human stuff. Sometimes, but not too much. And I guess mermaids fall into that genre but I'm gonna be honest - Byler has well and truly given me some sort of brain disease and you can probably make the case to me for most things with them. Mermaids. Never would have considered it. But the gears are spinning, this could be fascinating.
I think a little setting with mermaid (merman?) - oceanthing Will and human Mike is real cute. Gotta give it up for forbidden love. Secret little meetings in some lagoon or cove or whatever after Will rescues Mike, and he's super shy but he's so curious about humans and Mike is so excitable and thrilled at meeting this seababy cutie and they become friends and fall in looooove and the drama of this interspecies situation. I don't know much about mermaid fiction other than seeing the Little Mermaid cartoon movie once when I was a kid. It's a fun au, I can see it. And that art is just really nice, I can't stop reopening the link. Never gonna write anything with this one but my mind will be drifting when I'm at the beach later this summer...

The builders must have been incredibly satisfied with their work; both on the originals and on this re-creation. Many parallels between the Greeks of those days and the Ukrainians of our time; both standing up to the aggression of an insatiable empire. However, the evil of the Putin Regime (in light of the standards of modern times) probably exceeds that of the Achaemenid Empire under Xerxes. (depending on your choice of historical sources).
In military terms, Xerxes stands far higher than Putin, as Xerxes personally led an immense army across the Hellespont and into battle against the Athenian-Spartan coalition. Even though the Persian Navy was defeated at Salamis, Xerxes didn't hide in a bunker hundreds of miles distant for the event. Also, the Greek fleet consisted of more than 370 ships - a stark contrast to the shipless Ukrainian Navy whose only assets are the Seababy drones and Neptune missiles.
The modern replica of a 4th Century BC Athenian Trireme. This beauty has been named the "Olympias" and is actually a commissioned Greek naval vessel.

Down in Antarctica, Ukrainian scientists and polar explorers have named this year's firstborn Weddell seal pup!
Meet "SeaBaby Svitozarovych". The name is in honor of Ukraine's marine drone. It was born on Winter Island near the Vernadskyi Research Base. Biologist Svitozar Davydenko was the first to find it and had the honor of naming it out of hundreds of suggestions.
"SeaBaby is already 10 days old. He is actively growing and will soon begin to get acquainted with the ocean. Weddell seals start living independently and feeding in the water after the weaning period is over, approximately seven weeks after birth." (September 26, 2024)

Another Ukrainian development related to sea drones has become known. Ukrainian sea drones have learned to mine the sea routes of RuZZian Ships. Thanks to this tactic, four enemy vessels were sunk. As reported in the article by The Wall Street Journal, the RuZZians,
frightened by the raids of sea drones, built large barriers at the entrance to the Sevastopol Bay, so the Ukrainians came up with alternative operations - the installation of sea mines. Special SeaBaby have learned to install bottom mines made of plastic, weighing about 180 kg. They are difficult to find, since they lie in the silt under the shallow water, use acoustic and electromagnetic sensors to detect the presence of the ship, causing a detonation. For 1.5 months, a team of Ukrainian special services tracked the routes of sea ships
and civilian transport before sending SeaBaby to install two mines. On September 14, the missile corvette "Samum" was blown up by such a mine. Over the following weeks, SeaBaby laid about 15 more mines. During one of the flights, the drone opened fire with a grenade launcher on RuZZian Raptor-Class Patrol Boats, Damaging them. On October 11, the Large Patrol Boat Pavel Derzhavin was damaged while entering Sevastopol Bay. It was limping into port for inspection. On October 13, the vessel was heading to another port for repairs when it hit a mine. The RuZZians Confirm the Mining of Sevastopol Bay by Ukrainian Surface Drones
A Large Tugboat sent to Rescue the Ship also blew up. A few days later, an Explosion occurred on a Modern Mine Countermeasure Ship, One of Two in RuZZian Service.
How Ukraine’s Naval Drones Turned the Tide in the Battle of the Black Sea
Unmanned vessels developed in the fight against Russia are part of a revolution in modern warfare
KYIV, Ukraine—The Russian naval corvette had just left the safety of Sevastopol Bay one morning last fall when an explosion ripped a hole in its hull. As tugs pulled the ship back to port on Sept. 14, RuZZian state news agencies claimed it had fought off the latest attack by Ukrainian naval drones—small, explosive craft that had for months been ramming Russian naval ships in the Black Sea. This time, Ukrainian officials added a twist, saying their forces had used an “experimental weapon” as well as drones.
