stupid quirks i noticed in scythe

i should be asleep rn, but instead i’m up talking about random things i noticed in a book

1. citra curls herself into a ball when stressed. she does it twice as far as i know (once in scythe, once in toll) and i think it’s amazing

2. rowan is ironically a champagne drinker

3. chomsky is the type of person to say “im so telling mom” when his sibling does something bad

4. rand. thank you, goodnight

5. goddard has long nails. he’s fabulous and i love him

6. finally, this may just be my dumb brain rambling but goddards robe is blue and rands is green. green and blue are complimentary colors. was this maybe a conscious decision on rands part?

How I think character's from AOAS would react to being in love with you (New order!):

Volta:

Probably tries to hint at it when around you

Gives light touches (ex: hand on shoulder/holding hand.)

Would most likely take him a while to confess due to his emotions and Goddard being a dick.

Rand:

Actually really good at hiding her feelings

Would probs wrote in her journal about you a few times.

If she made you upset I think it would take a while for her to apologize, when she does she gives you small gifts.

Chomsky:

Will not hesitate to try and impress you

A bit protective(?)

Absolutely chaotic when gleaning with you.

Goddard:

Does this bitch even have feelings? 😭

Would try and make it seem like he 'hates' you

nothing will ever be greater than the AOAS fandom developing an obsession with Scythe Chomsky in 2020

even better that Neal was absolutely confused as to why people liked him so much! chomsky was such a blank slate, a filler character that i can not even justify as important no matter how much i reach. he just turned into a big joke. He's just so comical. chomsky, with his comically dramatic flamethrower, his comically blonde hair and chiselled frat bro jaw, and dont forget to mention his comically small brain. i dont even want to say WHY he chose his patron historic. why? because Rand chose a rightist, and he wanted to be the leftist. he doesn't even have any opinions.

neal managed to write a character so stereotypical and so overwhelmingly full of nothing that it turned into good writing. every scene with chomsky is a delight to read. reading about him setting stuff on fire, then being proud of himself for doing absolutely nothing were the highlights of the first book. never change, chomsky, never change.

chomsky-ites got so intense that Neal planned on putting a story about him in gleanings, but this tragically never saw the light. so, i know that if i ever meet neal, my first question will be, "What was in the chomsky story?". because if that story has been written, there is still a character in there somewhere.

Scythe Goddard- Justin Baladoni Scythe Goddard needs to have that hot villain vibe. if you know, you know. Ginny and I both agreed Justin Baladoni has the perfect face and attitude for the role of Scythe Goddard.

Scythe Rand- Arden Cho Come on, she's perfect. Just look at that face. That is the face of Scythe Rand right there. the hot but also bloodthirsty Scythe Rand. This boss bitch of an actor is the perfect actor for Scythe Rand.

Scythe Chomsky- Sebastian Stan Okay I know Sebastian Stan is more type casted for the soft-boy love interest, but we're specifically aiming for Mind-controlled-Bucky vibes. Corrupted, heavily influenced, insane... you know what I mean.

Scythe Volta- Tom Blyth Last but not least, our young, innocent, depressed, sad little meow meow Shawn Dobson. Blyth's looks, attitude, and past roles make him the perfect Volta. He would be the perfect person to play Scythe Alessandro Volta.

really funny to me that the scythe who chose chomsky as his patron historic was a shit idiot motherfucker. like, there are plenty of scythes in the series who got their names from recently dead or currently living people (shania twain, nelson mandela, etc), but most of them are decent people. chomsky, on the other hand, is lumped right in with that gift to humanity, ayn rand. any similarities to persons living or dead is purely intentional. bitch.

talk about the new order elegy (goddard, rand, volta, and chomsky)

goddard: i really enjoyed reading goddard’s orgin story in gleanings. his story gave goddard a great foundation and backstory as a character, and made him really more compelling of a villian. while rereading the series, it was really interesting to see how xenocrates regretted taking him on as an apprentice in the first book. xenocrates is just as bad as goddard imo, but by the end of thunderhead you just feel bad for him honestly. goddard just broke him.

rand: i definitely did not appreciate rand as a character until my second reading of the series where i found a lot more depth in her character. i think she’s really interesting, especially considering all the parallels she has with scythe curie (both causing turmoil in the scythedom at young ages, had crushes on their mentors, etc). they are really similar characters yet just it two very different situations. also, similar to how curie wanted faraday’s approval as a junior scythe, perhaps rand’s behavior and beliefs also stems from a need for goddard’s approval/attention. the two have an unbalanced relationship, and no doubt goddard manipulated her during her apprenticeship.

chomsky: ok honestly i have no thought abt chomsky. i’ve always found him to a be a pretty one-dimensional character. idk… i just don’t vibe w him. if you have any chomsky thoughts please let me know bc i don’t.

volta: i LOVE volta. i think my favorite thing abt volta is that his mentor scythe wasn’t even new order (originally). his mentor scythe was scythe nehru, who wasn’t even apart of the new order until AFTER volta’s death. so volta pretty much sided with goddard and the new order on his own, which he ended up regretting of course.
