OKAY BEFORE ANYONE SAYS WHO I SHOULD HAVE REPLACED WHO WITH WHO, THIS LITERALLY WAS FROM A DREAM I HAD
Like idk back when drdt was airing ch2, i was so obssessed i had this weird ass dream where drdt characters replaced characters in heathers. I literally woke up and scribbled it down to remember it lol
Anyway thought might as well shitpost this idea for fun. Lol dont think too deep abt it at all, i think it was just my brain either going off color or vibes to assign each character. Just assume that monotv forces the cast to act out movies to boost ratings for his failing killing game lmaoo
Drew ace with a ponytail lol for the sake of the red scrunchie. Also just HAD to draw xander in a trench coat >:)
If id seriously drew a drdt heathers au (i wont lol sorry) itd probably be:
Veronica Sawyer: Teruko Tawaki or J
JD: Hard to say lol since well ... its JD but maybe david lol. I dont think xander would enjoy being associated as JD
Heather Chandler: Just Arei dude so upset that it took my right after i finish to realize it should've been arei
Heather Duke: Arturo 100% bro is both a jerk and is green (with envy)
Heather McNamara: Either Whit or eden
But oh well im too tired to rn sorry :P

Maréchaux d'Empire: La gloire pour destin
Quelle horreur!
On the other hand, this book will keep me alternating between guffaws and serious eye-rolls for days.
The "replacement" for David Chandler's anthology, Napoleon's Marshals, published in 1987 with each of the 26 mini-bios written by for-real scholars [and not just Americans, either] is this November 2023 anthology edited by Francois Houdecek, who holds forth at the Sorbonne, claims to be a "disciple" of Jean Tulard [I believe M. Tulard has thousands of those!], and is involved in all sorts of activities and scribblings involving Naps. He is also responsible for gathering and organizing vast quantities of Napoleon's correspondence, so kudos for that.
However--and oh, my! what a huge "however" this is!--the 26 contributors range from the marginally average Pierre Branda to the apparent dregs of French scholarship whose names have never resonated outside the borders of Gallica. Each of these articles is depressingly cardboard, flimsy with details, utterly bereft of any attempt at analysis or understanding of the individual's character, talents--or lack thereof--and other useful and expected details, even in an anthology. These contributors apparently competed to see who could write the most drivel using the fewest sources. Naturally, I went straight to the entry about Lannes, and by the time I reached the end, I had permanently dislocated my eyebrows. The "author" of this travesty is Jacques-Olivier Boudon, whose credentials, on paper, are impressive but whose knowledge of Jean-Boy is worse than passing; it is non-existent. The reason for that is based on M. Boudon's sources:
He cites Lannes’ “official dossier” in the SHD, which I copied before I left, so I know every page and every sentence in it, and I know you won’t find squat that is useful unless, of course, you care how much putting on Mozart’s Requiem cost, and who sang the tenor solo.
High on the hit parade list is Regis de Crepy’s smarmy bio of the Lovely Louise, another book I can quote endlessly. Boudon used one letter from that.
Boudon also took bits and pieces from the three more recent French biographies by Dammame, Zins, and Willette—although the latest was published in 1994—and explained what I thought about them in a previous blog.
The absolutely most hysterical “source” is the 2002 historical fiction by a lovely 93-year-old woman, Penelope Le Fers-Dupac, who lives in Lectoure and who I know [I also know the biographer Jean-Claude Dammame, but that’s another story]. This novel is called “Le Mousquetaire de Napoleon: L’autre vie du marechal Lannes.” Make of this what you will, but it is the wonderfully entertaining, hilarious, and fictional tale of Jean-Boy’s first marriage.
I am appalled that this person didn’t do justice to Jean-Boy in an anthology where he would have shone at the top in capable hands. I know who's the real expert here, and I certainly don’t mind if someone also chooses to write about My Guy. But he or she had damn well better get it right, and this French morceau de merde massacred his subject.
BTW, joachimnapoleon, have you encountered Vincent Haegele? He did Murat no favors here, either. Thanks for reading the rant. I feel better.

@onionjuggler submitted:
3 and 14!
From this books ask game!
3: What were your top five books of the year?
I'll be honest most of what i read this year was either rereads of treasured books (finishing up my RotE reread I did mostly in 2023), and then a lot of books i thought were just Fine. They were good enough to keep me entertained and then pretty instantly forget what happened in them specifically. So the ones that stand out from those that weren't just rereads are:
Exordia by Seth Dickinson: This book is a bit frustrating actually because it's SO CLOSE to being exactly what I want, and it drives me mad that it's not quite there. It also is a better read if you go in with the understanding that it's actually 5 novellas in a trenchcoat (publisher changed the plan, from what I understand). But it's the kind of frustrating that wouldn't leave my head for weeks after because what was there was so compelling. I will be reading book 2 the instant it drops.
Dungeon Meshi by Ryoko Kui: It was so cute and fun. I couldn't watch the anime when it started out so found the manga instead, which isn't a format i read much of otherwise. Great balance of silly, heartfelt, and using speculative bio to introduce a usually untouched element of realism to fantasy aka cooking/food.
The Paper Menagerie And Other Stories by Ken Liu: I mean I knew I was gonna like this anthology and just never got around to it to now for some reason. I like reading translated sci fi in anthlogies becuase you also get a window into what tropes are being used in other cultures/languages which is half the fun of it to me.
Monstress vol. 7 by Marjori Liu & Sana Takeda: honestly I love all of the Monstress graphic novels but this one had some fun stuff I apprreciated in particular. I also read 8 and it was good but not as suited to my tastes, and have 9 (this year's release) but left it in New Mexico so will read it once I'm back.
Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries: this book was just a fun fantasy romp but what I really appreciated about it was that the protagonist was ACTIVE rather than passive despite being a more stuffy/bookish sort of personality. She just went outside and dealt with things anyway. I'm pretty tired of stories where the protagonist is just being unwillingly dragged along by the narrative rather than directing their own fate so I always notice & appreciate when books break that particular mold.
14: What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
I started rereading the How To Train Your Dragon books because they're very short and I am so close to my book goal for the year (95/100...). I won't finish all of them but I will get through a couple more probably. And I've also gone through some of the Hugo nominated novellas as well since I do usually read those most years.
Actually you know what. Gonna go back and plug HTTYD books more emphatically, because if anyone reading this comment imprinted on Animorphs you should give these a try next. They're not the same level of trauma, and the first couple books are WAY sillier, then the greater story arc comes into play and I am so invested by book 5, and books 8-12 just get me so good emotionally. Never thought I'd be heartbroken over a character named Snotlout but here we are! Also, if you're an audiobook, David Tennant does the narration and you get to hear him sing a bunch of funny little songs. Though the print versions have the authors cute scribbly drawings that go along with the story so can't go wrong really.

Note
new dolce and misery chapters sent me into a other craze so here’s a list of songs
I Don’t Wanna Live Forever - ZAYN and Taylor Swift
So True - Gracie Abrams
No One Noticed - The Marías
Coney Island - Taylor Swift (feat. The National)
Daylight - David Kushner
July - Noah Cyrus
Closure - Taylor Swift
Matilda - Harry Styles
Little Freak - Harry Styles
Not Strong Enough - boygenius (Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus)
As and for my question, what is one quirk or tick for certain characters that you like to incorporate into your fics? What a thing you think just they do casually that you like to slide in there?
anyways that all! Have a great day, and good luck writing!
I'm so glad you've enjoyed the latest chapters. omg I love these, I've had 'That's So True' (Gracie Abrams) especially on loop lately. I've added them to the playlist <3
As for your question, that's a tough one. Some of these are more prevalent in one-shots I've yet to post, but I wanted to include them anyway.
Nico: hates driving and he will guilt trip any of his friends into driving so he doesn't have to, can draw and will scribble little sketches onto any surface when bored, fluctuates randomly between sitting impossibly still and unable to stop moving. Judges peoples' coffee orders.
Will: chews on the ends of his writing implements, his Starbucks order is one of those ridiculously sweet tiktok recipes that he has memorised, always humming, wears cargo shorts and flip-flops everywhere (the man wore that shit to Tartarus lol).
Percy: always fidgeting with a pen, Hazel: Certified Horse Girl, went through a jewellery making phase (made Nico something and he refuses to take it off), Leo: arsonist (enough said?)... that's all I can think of right now.
What are some quirks for these characters you'd like to see included in fics? Maybe you'll give me some inspiration.

thank you for this, oooh!!
ASK ME
There were many horribly inconvenient things about the Owlery at Hogwarts. Chief among these was how high up it was — there was no real reason to house birds in a tower — and the number of staircases David Townes had to ascend to get there. Couldn't the builders of the castle have thought to have a second coop at ground level? On the other hand, there was the faint smell of bird droppings that even the winter wind couldn't quite dull. Maybe it was for the best that these obstacles meant he wasn't there often.
He attached his letter — a short note to his mother; he tried to write to her as often as he could, in between homework and classes — to the foot of a mistrustful-looking school owl. He didn't have one of his own. He didn't really like birds. If he could avoid it he wouldn't write to anyone.
Well, maybe that was taking things too far.
The cage behind him rattled. Instinctively, he glanced over his shoulder — and abruptly wished he hadn't.
Mary was visibly in some distress — distress, specifically, because while she was always animated by emotion, there was a divot between her brows and a hard set to her mouth that seemed so unlike her. David thought of what Gillian had said. He ought to say something.
What came out was, "You're not going to say hello at all now?" Which sounded a lot worse now that it had been said.
"Don't...have...the time."
She was frowning over her parchment, scribbling into a scrap of it that she'd braced against her palm. Whatever she was writing would probably be illegible. In Care of Magical Creatures, when they'd been younger and had to jot things down whilst standing up, he and Hugh would sometimes take notes with the parchment spread over each other's backs. David winced at the very idea of offering that, now.
He ought to say something. He knew it was the right thing to do. A little breath escaped him, too loud in the Owlery, against all odds.
"Gillian said," he began, wielding her name like a white flag. A safe third party in between the two of them.
But Mary, to his surprise, glared at him. "Gillian said what?" she said, waspishly. There was colour high in her cheeks.
David couldn't think what to say next. He couldn't find words at all. Nothing he had to say would be easy, and she obviously didn't want to hear it, anyway.
"Never mind," he said. "It's stupid."
Before, she never would have let him get away with leaving that unsaid. But she went back to her letter at once, tying it up to an owl furiously. He watched her fingers — pale with cold — fumble with the thread.
There was nothing to do but leave. Maybe it was for the best that he wasn't in the Owlery often.

if you wanna, can you explain / infodump about bfdi (i think that’s the name of it??)
the show(?) with the numbers :3
i wanna know more about it bc it seems cool! /positive
you don’t have to answer so dw <3
OHOHOHO srry 4 the wait btw these are Buzy Dayz...
Tumblr media
BFDI FUN FACT january 1 is bfdi day
BFDI stands 4 BATTLE FOR DREAM ISLAND
it is a webseries that lives in youtube!!! it has a few seasons. its an object show, in fact, the First Object Show EVER!!!!!
an object show is a show where the characters are objects with faces and limbs lolz.
Its mostly a comedic and chill series, with interesting worldbuilding if you pay attention. Though it seems to be getting serious lately with TPOT!!
On to the seasons!! I will try not to spoil.. WATCH IT!!! /nf but... please?
1: BFDI, 2: BFDI [BFDI Again, went on hiatus but came back recently] 3: IDFB [only has 1 episode? on hiatus 4ever. name is bfdi backwards]
the first seasons! ill just talk abt BFDI in here [and of BFB/TPOT in next section]
Here the contestants were battling for Dream Island! whoever wins gets to own the island which is full of cool stuff, and gets to decide who can get in
It was hosted by Announcer, a robot from space with a text 2 speech voice lol
each character has fun stuff about them and their personality or lore even... there is no bad characters in here!! And fun fact the first season was started just by a pair of twins!
Tumblr media
4: BFB [BATTLE FOR BFDI] !!! its divided into 2 seasons technically. 4a [pre split] and 4b [post split]
Here appear... ALIEN NUMBERS!! All characters in BFDI so far were objects [except 4 David and Dora, stickman human scribble weirdthings] but these new guys are Number and Variable... FOUR AND X!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they are Weird and Mildly Unsettling, they're drawn wonky, they have wild powers and are quite random. X is nice, but Four is feared because he's quick to hurt contestants and even his best friend X. Death is common in BFDI [there are machines that revive people] but Four has New and kinda Scary ways to murder.
like screeching
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So they host the new season!
The prize in BFB is ... a BFDI! Yep! The first season of BFDI, plain and simple. But deepfried.
THE SPLIT AND SEASON 5: TPOT [the power of two]
Kind of a spoiler. Halfwayish through BFB, TWO ARRIVES!!
Tumblr media
they offer Four's contestants a different prize... Their power. Their magic powers that are very cool.
Around more than half of the contestants decide to join Two's show, especially because theyre tired of Four's stuff.
Yayy...! BFB stays silly and TPOT goes more for character development and such.
Post split, Four gets a huge change. His contestants left and he feels horrible and a lot of people complain that he's whiny and terrible post split.
Onto TPOT!
Two is much nicer and doesnt murder people for fun. They're a pretty good host! This season is still ongoing btw! It really seems to be getting more serious. By BFDI standards.

The Jon headcanons because I have been inspired by @chaotic-tired-bastard and @owlhari and my brain is going whirrrrrrrrrrrrr :]
-gives kisses to everyone platonically. in an older vid you can see him do this to Upgrade and I'd like to think it's one of his ways of showing affection
-love language is mostly physical touch and sometimes gift giving, he likes doodling and anything crafty/colorful
-this is one Owlhari brings up in their vid of the bots and disorders, but I also like to think The Jon has an extremely overactive and vast imagination, often imagining himself as the characters the band sings about and daydreaming in his freetime. these adventures can often be seen leaking into his songs and other mediums
-ADORES birds. no crazy reason either, he just thinks they're pretty and wishes he could fly like one. some of his favorites are robins, kingfishers, parakeets/parrots, doves, and bluejays, and if you catch him in a good mood he can be heard whistling like birds
-loves making all sorts of forts and structures out of the silly things in his room. his room is rather large and filled with curious objects and way too many pillows. he obviously takes advantage of this.
-will not go anywhere without the appropriate feather in his hat. he has one for every occasion, and I mean *every* occasion. he screams like he's naked if he's caught without a feather and will refuse to go anywhere if one is not chosen. he is very particular about them.
-kind of blunt with what he says. it's not really implied that he realizes this, but that means he'll be honest with you even if it comes with some brutal observations. he doesn't quite understand you're not supposed to do that because he was told honesty was part of being polite.
-while his siblings are much heavier than the average human, Jon is lighter due to the void in his chest. he uses this to his advantage as it means he can interact more physically with humans (with their say-so usually)
-his art/writing style is very scribbly and childlike, with lots of swirls and colors
-adores any warm colors (red, yellow, orange, bronze)
-constantly gets into shenanigans, especially with Rabbit and Hatchworth
-Upgrade is like a twin sister to him, whenever she's on a royal tyrant streak she'll always be merciful with Jon in return for some origami figurines
-one of Jon's favorite aesthetics is art-deco, much like how he was designed
-Jon's favorite era is the 1920's-50's, as he adores the fashion, colors, toys, and items from that time. he is also really good at swing dancing, and often likes to play old records just to practice it. a partner is always welcomed ;}
-loves learning about (preferably colorful) animals in books/documentaries made by like natgeo and such. loves trying to impersonate David Attenborough
-clumsy but in an endearing way (clumsy but in a /silly /pos way yk)
-absolutely melts at compliments, especially ones that revolve around the buzzwords "victorian" and "doll"
-when outside, Jon is the type of person (or thing,,,,,?) to make daisy chains/crowns, oogle at butterflies, make wishes on dandelions, and name literally every bird just by its chirp
-adores cartoons and/or anything animated, the only exception being the Marx Brothers' movies in which he idolizes Harpo Marx for being such a cartoony role model
-often finds it difficult to fully express how he feels, this can lead to over/under exaggeration, frustration, getting caught up on words or sentences, or taking conversation breaks to sort out his head
-his favorite story/animation is Alice in Wonderland in all of its iterations. loves playing the Mad Hatter if his siblings ever get around to acting the stories out in their freetime
-often feels like he's a burden because of how high maintenance/jumpy/bubbly he is. because of this he has a hard time opening up about things in fear that he'll just weigh someone down even more
-loves the occasional ponytail or wacky hairstyle. he finds it difficult to do the styles himself with his range and type of motion, but will gladly accept if a human/fellow walter worker is willing to help out
-sucker for good harmonies
-envies Rabbit's art, he likes all the shapely swoops and swirls it has
-definitely the naiive one of the bunch. often worries much more than he should about small things but has learned to tone that down a little in favor of being all upbeat and silly
