👋
Hi! I'm Rebecca, a 27-year-old fantasy writer from Scotland living the absolute dream because my debut novel came out on 27th June!!
Published by Ringwood Publishing, Song of the Stag is a love letter to Scotland's historic and folkloric past. From ancient kings and black-hearted patriots to bonnie princes and Jacobite songs, this book celebrates a complex, beautiful, and all too often tragic, land.
It also acts as an allegory for Scottish Independence, a subject I've been passionate about since 2014. The story is about the power of autonomy, be that of a person or a nation. Our main character, Cait, is a sheltered girl with an idyllic, conservative, rural upbringing, and her journey to personal freedom mirrors that of her nation.
I'm so excited to be able to share Cait's story with others! The novel can be purchased from Ringwood Publishing, Amazon (incl. Kindle format), or the Waterstones website. (For quickest delivery, order from Ringwood directly).
It's also on GoodReads, so please add to your want to read list, and leave a review if you read it!

Seeing the letters section in the national today talking about appeasement of Putin is sickening and has the same energy as the people talking about "Peace with Hitler" back in the 1930s.
These people will endless give rim jobs to Palestine but if its Ukraine "We should just let Putin do what he wants there, we want to avoid angering the man."
Messed up a liberal leaning paper has printed letters that are downright Russian propaganda talking points and you should never trust anyone that says "The Ukraine"

You are in the middle of the Battle of Bannockburn (1314 CE)
As you find yourself in the midst of the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 CE, the context is one of intense conflict between the Kingdom of Scotland, led by King Robert the Bruce, and the Kingdom of England, under the rule of King Edward II. The battle takes place near the town of Bannockburn, situated in central Scotland. Both sides have gathered their armies for what will become a monumental…

Cullen (Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Cuilinn) "Atween Coedlich and the sea, There lies Kings' sons three." Between the rocks and the sea, there lies kings' sons three. The rocks referred to are the three huge protruding parts of the Cullen Bays Quartzite which was formed some 541+ million years ago. One story tells that three kings were buried here: a Scots, a Danish and a Norwegian. History tells of one Indulf, king of Alba dying near here during the battle of the Bauds 962 AD. The three kings are said to represent the three kings of the nativity story with the burgh deriving its name from the resemblance between the name of Cullen in medieval Scots (Culane) and Cologne, the famed site of the relics of the Three Kings in the middle ages, so they became "the Three Kings of Cologne". When Ptolemy (100-170 AD) wrote his ‘Geographia’, he provided coordinates of the geographic features of more than 8,000 places including a mention of River Celnius in the North East of Scotland, which has been notably identified as the Cullen Burn. Robert the Bruce was King of Scots from 1306 to his death in 1329 and one of Scotlands most famous warriors who lead Scotland into their First War of Scottish Independence (1296-1328). Robert the Bruce founded the church in Cullen and also burried his wife here.

Eat your cereal
One of my favourite parts about writing Song of the Stag was inserting little references to Scottish culture within the story. Special mentions go out to the famous 'it's legal tender' debate, David Cameron's 'balanced settlement', and a nod to Robert the Bruce's Queen, but my favourite by far is a reference to the Better Together campaign's 2014 advert entitled 'The Woman Who Made Up Her Mind'.
Tumblr media
The advert itself became infamous in 2014 for its patronising and misogynistic script centred around a housewife who decides to vote no to Scottish independence. The character bemoans her husband's sudden interest in the topic, and her patience finally gives out that morning, just before the camera starts rolling, when he brings it up again and she says, 'It's too early for politics, eat your cereal!'
The phrase became something of a symbol for the way the Better Together campaign tried to tivialise real-life concerns people had with the UK by passing off independence supporters as flag-waving, Braveheart-worshipping lunatics. 'It's all a load of patriotic guff, just shut up and vote no,' it seemed to say.
The reference to this line comes into play in Song of the Stag when our main character, Cait, starts to feel sympathy and agreement towards the Storrian Separatist cause, completely contrary to the conservative views held by the residents of her village. She tries to keep her mother's words - 'it's too early for politics, lass. Eat your cereal.' - in her mind as she moves about the city, trying her best to ignore the hardship that the Separatists aim to fix, and the call to revolution in her heart.
Song of the Stag is available now!

Yup very normal, just a head of the Alba party along with the national talking about section 28 as the good old days because a hate crime bill lists trans people as a protected group. The level of maggots eating at your brain to jump through these hoops must be something.
I expect as much from Tartan UKIP but fuck the liberals who platform and enable this shit like the national and other publications, even the guardian has never jumped to such levels of bullshite.
The Scottish independence deserves so much better than some of the absolute weapons and bigots that represent it now.
