Travis Scott Escapes Criminal Charges in Astroworld Tragedy, Investigation Concludes
Tumblr media
Travis Scott Escapes Criminal Charges for Deadly Astroworld Festival: Houston Grand Jury Decision In a recent development, Travis Scott has been cleared of criminal charges in connection with the tragic Astroworld festival. A Houston grand jury made this decision on Thursday, relating to the incident that occurred in November 2021. During the festival, a crowd crush resulted in the loss of ten lives and left hundreds injured as eager fans surged toward the stage for the rapper's performance. Despite the declaration of a mass casualty event at 9:38 p.m., the concert continued until 10:15 p.m. Earlier reports had confirmed that all ten victims, including a 9-year-old, succumbed to compression asphyxia caused by the immense pressure exerted by the surrounding crowd. The festival hosted an estimated 50,000 attendees, which was below the maximum capacity of 200,000 specified by the Houston fire code. Notably, Travis Scott served as both a headliner and a promoter for Astroworld, alongside Live Nation and ScoreMore. While criminal charges have been ruled out for Scott, all three entities still face multiple civil lawsuits alleging negligence, wrongful death, and other offenses. During a press conference, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg emphasized their responsibility to determine if any criminal activity was involved in this "disastrous, horrific event." When faced with such incidents where the presence of a crime is uncertain, the customary practice is to present the cases before grand juries, as stated by Ogg. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner revealed that his office will release a comprehensive report detailing the findings of their extensive investigation. Acknowledging the complexity of the case, Finner highlighted the importance of providing the report, which spans almost 1,200 pages, to the public. He expressed heartfelt sympathy for the families who have patiently awaited answers for over a year and seven months. In response to the grand jury's decision, a representative for Travis Scott stated, "My client Travis Scott will not be charged with criminal charges or any wrongdoing for his involvement with AstroWorld festival." They asserted that this outcome confirms their belief that Scott is not responsible for the tragic events at Astroworld. The representative also highlighted Scott's efforts to halt the show on three separate occasions and his unawareness of the unfolding events. With this chapter now closed, they expressed hope that the government's focus will shift towards preventing future heartbreaking tragedies like Astroworld. The Times received a statement from a spokesperson representing Kherker Garcia, a Houston-based firm handling civil lawsuits on behalf of numerous Astroworld attendees. Expressing disappointment in the absence of criminal charges against Travis Scott, they affirmed their commitment to pursuing justice on behalf of the hundreds of injury victims. Their objective is to ensure that the responsible parties are held accountable. In March, Travis Scott made his first festival appearance since Astroworld at the Rolling Loud festival held in Inglewood's Hollywood Park. Despite stopping short of encouraging wild behavior among the crowd, Scott appeared content to reclaim his position as the "king of the pit," as noted by The Times' Mikael Wood. The performance, although brief, effectively showcased the resilience of his brand, undeterred by controversy. Read the full article

My 3rd festival this year, Dreamville gave me the opportunity to become acquainted with ScoreMore. I worked box office and had the pleasure of getting my good friend an opportunity to become a manager for this show. Love to see my friends do great things even if it is just small steps within the industry, I’m happy to be apart of it!

The absolute fuck.
Part-time employees who worked at Travis Scott’s deadly Astroworld Festival may not get paid unless they relinquish the right to sue promoters Live Nation and Scoremore.
In an email obtained by Rolling Stone, a manager representing the promoters suggested to a group of workers that they would not receive their paychecks unless they signed an amended employment contract that released Live Nation and Scoremore from any liability.

Travis Scott and Live Nation Sued Over Astroworld 2021
Travis Scott and Live Nation Sued Over Astroworld 2021
Travis Scott, Live Nation, and ScoreMore have been sued by an injured Astroworld attendee, Billboard reports. The 2021 edition of the music festival ended in chaos on Friday, November 5, with eight deaths, scores of injuries, and multiple incidents of cardiac arrest. The complaint accuses the organizers of negligence and gross negligence and is seeking at least $1 million in damages. Billboard…

Lesson: Wear many hats if necessary. Know why you wear those hats though. Learn from wearing the hats you must wear. Wear the hats with purpose and pride.
I don’t plan on making it of habit of using words as my medium of communication. But this is a milestone for me, my first truly credentialed festival. So I hope my short story serves as inspiration/caution.
Photography is the first thing in my life that I have chosen. And if my first wedding photographer choice wouldn’t have canceled on me, it probably would not have happened. Everything professionally and entrepreneurially that I have done leading up until now has been in service of someone else.
Going to college was at the service of my parents, which I eventually squandered in the summer of my third year at UH. Trying to get to school I racked up A LOT of traffic tickets which eventually lead to warrants(no job). I then was at the service of the County of Harris and surrounding municipalities… eh hmm. Queue overnight stays at the county jail for driving on a suspended license. I sold used cars. I worked at GameStop. I’ve been a scooter shop GM. I was once a banker. I am now 34 and a banking professional with a major firm, a father, a husband, a tax payer(booo). Professionally all my choices have been out of necessity.
Entrepreneurially, the one constant since childhood has been my love of music(RIP Prince). From a tender young age of dreaming about how I would be on some big stage singing for thousands like at a JMBLYA. Quickly I realized my skin wasn’t thick enough for judgement while attending college. I have been a showcase runner, promoter, manager, flunky, door man, stage manager and for the longest I was a self-taught videographer/editor. Almost 10 years. I have been fortunate to meet some awesome friends along this road. My closest friends – music artists – who I have supported through those 10 years. Hence the aforementioned entrepreneurial hats I just listed.
Fast forward to now, a year in a half ago I was tasked with one job in my wedding planning. Pick a photographer. Dun dun dun… they canceled a month before. I quickly found another and they were awesome. But my process of selecting was very hmmm… less just say rigorous. Doing video for years, I know what I like, and I wanted my forever photos to look a certain way. My now wife kept sending me recommendations and I kept blocking like Hakeem in “94”, call me a hater. I decided then instead living in envy or admiration of others abilities I would do it myself.
So now I’m a part-time dream chaser shooting my first festival. Looking through a sea of faces as they are lost in the moment. Not worried about anything else but that moment. Seeing major artists deliver sets full of passion and conviction. This experience for me is unlike anything I have ever felt. It feels purposeful and meaningful, it feels like it’s mine. Not in service to anyone else, but meant for me.
I worked one hell of festival which in truth I once aspired to own myself at one point. Last night, I finished editing at 3 AM. I woke up at 7:30 AM for my full-time corporate life. I write these words from my desk. I’ll be the first to say I took the long road to this point. But in truth I’d do it all over again the same way. Hell, even my high school “The Might Jack Yates” had a photography curriculum and I chose media tech. UH has a great communications school and I chose marketing as a major. All of the best parts of my life happened because of this weathered and troubled road. The next phase in the journey, full-time dream chaser, and it feels closer than ever.
Take look at the collection I curated from my time at the festival. If you were there, relive the it one more time. If you weren’t able to make it, experience it start to finish by order of appearance. Thank you to JMBLYA and Scoremore Shows for their very warm hospitality. Until next year.
