Soap isn't afraid of many things. Needles, blood, dogs, heights, snakes, the ocean, all fine. but spiders?? Ooh boy! The devil's creature if he believed. One time, before ghost, he was on leave and he screamed so loud when he found a spider in his bathtub that the neighbors called the cops. And yes they did kill it for him after they stopped laughing.
He doesn't freak out as much anymore because simon has no problems with taking care of the spiders. Now it's more of a very freaked out but forced calm voice, "simon. Simon, get the spider. Please get the spider. Simon. Simon, please." As he moves to hide behind ghost.
Ghost chuckles but does indeed get the spider. Ghost also has very few fears. Luckily for him his fears are a bit less common than soap's. And look, it's not like he's actually afraid of worms, more so that they freak him out.
He honestly had no idea he had this fear until they both found out while they were waiting for exfil on a mission. They were waiting in a generously names safehouse - it was little more than a shack held together on hopes and prayers, but it kept the sun off their backs. Ghost had put his bag against one of the walls and propped himself against it with his eyes closed while they waited. Soap sat a few inches away, doing whatever he does in his journal.
And then he felt it, against his hand. He thought it was soap trying to get his attention at first, then he looked down at his hand. And there squiggling in the dirt, and by squiggle he means spazzing out, was a worm he must've disturbed when he put his bag against the wall. He'd had to scooch a plank of wood out of they way, which is where the worm must've been hiding under.
He had no idea what he was doing, but one second he was leaning lazily against his bag, and the next he was on the opposite wall breathing heavily. Soap was startled at ghost's sudden movements. Asking what the hell he was doing. Soap made a jab at him, when ghost told him, but took the thing outside nonetheless. It was the least he could do since ghost had already removed the spiders for him.

CW !! mentions of walters/the worms (scoleciphobia), descriptive feeling of being burrowed into, worms wiggling (described)
rambling again, but the worms or well walters actually disgust and scare me. sometimes when i see it, i imagine what it would've felt like. do the doppelgangers feel how it moves? how it wriggles as it desperately burrows into their skin? do they feel that cool sliminess touch against their flesh? and then i think about how i would feel about it and the dread and horror it comes with being eaten alive or burrowed alive by something and not being able to pull the wriggling beast out of my skin. maybe this is just my vivid imagination, but i genuinely felt sick when i first saw walter. perhaps it's not terrifying for some, but for me it's one where it's so brief and small yet just one single movement changes everything. to see it squirming is so wretching and horrific to me, it is so disgusting despite being cartoonishly small. anyways i think doppelgangers should have more walters, i love feeling absolutely nauseous or grossed out by horror in the body horror way. not in the well... different way.

In the most ironic turn of events, I think I have developed a fear of worms.
I’ve always liked worms because they seem like cute, harmless squiggles, and my url here was very much a random pick.
However, these last few weeks I’ve been living somewhere new (college) where worms are absolutely EVERYWHERE. On one of my fist days it was very hot and I found one stranded in the street, so I picked it up to return it to the dirt when it started jumping and thrashing about. I have this on video bc it was so bizarre, but unfortunately can’t share it because I ended up having to pick it up with my ID because it hated my hands so vehemently.
I wished it a well-meaning goodbye when I put it back into the ground, which I found a day later was probably not a good idea.
Turns out, these are actually jumping worms, which are extremely invasive here and are Not Good for our plants! They originate from Eastern Asia but thrive here due to our similar climates, and I cannot exaggerate how many of them I’ve seen this week. It rained a few days ago, and the path was covered in them.
C. O. V. E. R. E. D.
Like, the next day you could see from where the cars had driven in the streets the white goop trails of dried worm squish, each inches from the other.
I have never seen so many worms that spasm like they’re filled with a demonic parasite within them, especially not ones that big—the largest one I saw could’ve passed as a small snake from a distance. The fact that I’ve always been terrified of parasitic worms has NOT helped this experience. But I think that from the time I carried one and now watching where I walk whenever I go out in fear that they’ll jump (they can go up to 1 foot/.3 meters high) onto me and go crazy mode again and…
Guys I think wormy might be afraid of worms. Like I bet these guys are good for the ecosystem where they come from, but the fear of them being Everywhere and also being so Frantic has freaked me out super hard. I miss seeing my earthworm buddies.
Tumblr media
^Anyway. If you’re from North America and you see these guys: they don’t belong here. And that’s not me being xenophobic toward worms, it’s just me recognizing invasive species. (And worrying because they’re worms on crack and they terrify me…they look so innocent…)

(~700 words, pearlescentmoon, set during HC10. body horror and scoleciphobia warning as described above. not particularly serious.)
They twisted and climbed over each other, pulling themselves across the unforgiving wooden floors, their disparate minds driven by a unified will that still clung to its identity. The worms, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of worms, stretching towards a goal that none of them could understand. But the consciousness that guided them knew its intention as it struggled to pull its new, fragmentary existence up the stairs and to the mirror.
It was only after it had pulled itself up to the mirror, the squirming and quivering mass of annelidic life pulling itself into a pillar, dragging itself up to match the mirror's height, that it realized the problem with its idea.
Oh, Pearl thought. I don't have eyes.
She knew the mirror was there, because the two thick columns of worms she'd come to think of as her arms within the last few minutes could feel it when she reached out. A smooth surface, much smoother than the wooden surroundings of the home she'd built. She knew it was polished to a reflective sheen. She also knew that she couldn't see herself in it. Worms, she came to realize, did not have eyes.
Do they have brains? she wondered. How am I thinking right now?
She could feel through each worm, a dizzying amount of sensation, and she used them to feel up and down the interior of her own form, searching for her brain, the seat of her consciousness. She didn't find it, though she wasn't sure she could recognize it if she did - would the worms, their soft and squishy bodies, be able to tell the difference between each other and the squishy flesh of her own brain? She doubted it.
But she paused when they brushed against something hard. Multiple somethings, each worm that inched past giving her more of a sense of the form of the tiny nuggets of something at the center of her new shape. Twenty-eight little prongs, loose, solid as pebbles.
Are those my teeth?
She willed the worms to shift their forms again. It was hard - none of them could understand the greater form she was envisioning, and so she had to build up the blueprint little by little in her head and urge each worm into the proper place. Slowly, very, very, slowly, she shifted so she had a roughly oval mass at the top of the pillar of grubs that formed her new body. A head, she'd call it. The worms, working together, managed to push each of her teeth up into her head, and held them staunchly in place, arranged in the way they were supposed to be.
It took quite a bit of practice, but eventually she worked it out. How to open up the right cavities within herself to push air out at the right rhythms, how to use the worms to shape that air as it emerged and move her teeth to complete the final steps.
"Thith ith.. quite... ihnconvenient," she managed.
She didn't have a tongue, which made the whole process much more difficult. Still, she preferred talking to herself out loud. It helped her think.
"I mean, I wath uppothed to meet with Joel again today," she said. "Itth not like I can... canthel on him. He'th juth the thort of guy to... mmake it a big... pr.. prod... production," she got out.
She noticed something else odd about her new body - she didn't have an accent anymore. Whatever muscle memory was responsible for that appeared not to carry over to her new form, which she supposed only made sense.
She'd have to practice that too. She was fond of her accent!
"Ah'll juth... um, go oher to hith bathe," she said. "I'm thtill in fine con... condition to argue with im," she said. "I'm alwayth ready to argue with im. I can work on getting my old body back after...aft...afterwardth," she resolved.
She reached out, unsteady, to grab her mailbag. Wouldn't do to leave home without it.

I had quite a dream last night it's all I say.
The Magnus Protocol crew was there too at first and that really should've been a warning as what was to come.
Happy Birthday to my boy I guess. Don't know why that's how my dreams decided to start it off.
