My laptop broke. But I managed to finish one painting before that happened. Sometimes it feels like everything around me is trying to self-destruct. I fix one thing, and another one breaks. Maybe that's just what life is 🤷

Considering the context of the show itself, the lyrics for the Red Dwarf theme song are quite dark, when you think about it... 🤔

honestly the moment i stopped thinking about asoiaf as trying to be historical fiction and realized that grrm still writes like a scifi writer, my understanding of how everything in the series works meta-wise improved significantly.

like think about it. scifi as a genre is about making criticisms of current modern culture, but placed in a futuristic time period in order to take modern concepts and take them to their most extreme examples in order to emphasize them & say something about them. is a song of ice and fire not doing the same thing of taking modern criticisms and placing them in a different time period, just backwards in time instead of forwards?

yes a huge amount isn't historically accurate, but he isn't trying to be. he's making commentary on modern society with a veneer of the medieval!

In the walking cities of Magna there are a many offences that in the eyes of its rulers deserve capital punishment. If an individual with military experience is found guilty of such a crime they are offered a choice, execution or join the Giftik troopers. In both cases death is certain. Equipped with a modified flamer that sprays radioactive material across a conflict zone the Giftik troopers are terrifying shock troops that will deny swathes of a battlefield to the enemy and cause immediate death at close range. However the use of such indiscriminate weaponry comes at a price and it is all but certain a Giftik Trooper will one day succumb to fatal radiation sickness. To prolong their functional lifespan they are heavily insulated with layers of material that is designed to shield the Trooper from the worst of the fall out.
