Writeblr Intro
Hi, so I've been a part of tumblr for quite some time but I've only really begun to be active again in the last month or so. I figured given my long absence perhaps it was time to introduce myself and open up to connecting with other writers here.
So who am I?
My name is Sasha Hanton (She/Her), I'm the author of It's All Magic To Me which was originally released in May 2022 (Re-releasing as Polishing Magic in May 2025). For a long time, I struggled with openly describing myself as a person of colour, coming from a mixed-race background it's always been a bit strange figuring out how to define myself. However I now feel more confident in how I describe and define myself.
I'm Australian but I have Eurasian heritage, meaning my family come from a combination of Asian and European backgrounds. I know some people don't like the term Eurasian, and that's perfectly fine you don't have to label yourself with something you don't identify with but for me, I'm proud to call myself Eurasian. My family have identified as Eurasian for more than three generations now, and we've always been proud of our mixed ancestry (feel free to ask me more about this if you're interested).
Coming from a mixed background I like to bring that mix into my writing, injecting influences from a variety of cultures and mythologies. Whilst I'm a cis, heterosexual, neurotypical woman I try my best to be an ally and am always happy to bring more diversity into my writing and to read more diverse stories (if you know any good books by diverse authors please send me your recommendations I'm always happy to build up my tbr).
Tumblr media
My writing
Currently, I'm in the limbo of waiting for feedback on projects and I generally try to stick to having one WIP on the go at a time (as otherwise I'm prone to overwhelm) . Predominately I write urban fantasy, generally with new adult-aged characters but written to be middle-grade and up friendly. Here's a quick breakdown of my works:
It's All Magic To Me - This is my novel, originally published under contract in 2022 but now out of contract and out of print but I will be re-releasing it in May 2025 under the new title Polishing Magic. It follows Willow, a university student, who discovers she has magical powers and goes on to be taught how to use them by Sphynx, a cat. Urban Fantasy inspired by the likes of Buffy, Charmed, Sailor Moon, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Themes involve family, responsibilities, and friendship. Venatores de Mythos Trilogy - My major WIP at the moment, I've written drafts for all three books but am waiting on feedback for book 1 before continuing editing. Urban Fantasy, follows three different characters who are all recruited by a mysterious agency that hunts and tracks down mythological creatures and artifacts. Globetrotting features a mixture of languages (Arabic, French, and Spanish with the main composition being in English). The main characters are from varying cultural backgrounds, each wildly different from the other with their own reasons for agreeing to join the agency. Percy Jackson kind of vibes. Chimera - Currently in the process of writing the first draft. Inspired by a short story I wrote for a recent competition following a mixed race, mixed species, witch and her family who are being hunted for parts. Dark Urban fantasy based in Australia, will feature lots of mythological influences. Adult because there's body horror, probably going to be some explicit sex scenes (not sure yet), and just generally dealing with heavier/darker themes. The Short Story Press Collection - A collection of short stories, currently available as an e-book on Amazon or in print (the print edition is newer and contains more stories than the e-book). Stories cover a range of genres from sci-fi, fantasy, gothic horror and more. Customerpocalypse - My first novel, currently available as an e-book on Amazon. Post-apocalyptic fantasy, written during a time when I was struggling with my mental health and it shows. If you've ever wondered why in post-apocalyptic video games there are NPCs who work in what's basically customer service then this might be for you.
Please shoot me an ask if you'd like to know more about any of my writing projects or about me. I'm hoping to share more on my WIPs here and to engage more, so please feel free to tag me in tag games!
You'll also see plenty of shares from fandoms I'm part of here, I have no intention of segmenting my Tumblr into two separate accounts so my apologies if you get spammed with Fairy Tail posts or DnD stuff (or anything else).
If you'd like to follow me on other social media or want to find my books here's a link you can follow for all of that: https://bit.ly/m/SashaHanton-Links

Sci-Fi Saturday: Five
Tumblr media
Week 29:
Film(s): Five (Dir. Arch Oboler, 1951, USA)
Viewing Format: Streaming Video (Amazon)
Date Watched: 2022-02-11
Rationale for Inclusion:
Late in the runtime of last week's film, The Thing From Another World (Dir. Christian Nyby, 1951, USA), as part of a monologue trying to convince his fellow occupants of the Arctic base not to destroy the carnivorous plant alien that has already drained the blood of multiple scientists and sled dogs, Dr. Carrington (Robert Cornthwaite) concludes his plea for the importance of the pursuit of knowledge at all costs with, "We split the atom." At which point, one of the airmen, Lt. Eddie Dykes (James Young), cuts in with, "Yes, and that sure made the world happy, didn't it?" The sardonic quip stops Carrington cold.
In 1951, only six years had passed since the United States had deployed atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in August of 1945. Whilst news of the destruction and atrocities were initially slow to spread, by the time the film takes place the scientists and airmen in The Thing no doubt knew the horrors inflicted upon Japan. Furthermore, the Soviet Union had detonated its first nuclear weapon in 1949, and the Cold War was very much underway.
With this cultural context in place, it follows that the post-apocalyptic film would make a comeback in the 1950s. Rocketship X-M (Dir. Kurt Neumann, 1950, USA) featured a post nuclear disaster society on Mars, but this survey has not featured a film where the central narrative is built around people trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world since natural disaster film Deluge (Dir. Felix E. Feist, 1933, USA). So when I encountered Five (Dir. Arch Oboler, 1951, USA) described as the "first to depict the aftermath of an Earthly atomic bomb catastrophe" whilst perusing Wikipedia's science fiction cinema list, I knew it was an essential film to view.
Five was an independent film written, directed and produced by Arch Oboler, a successful radio dramatist who followed in Orson Welles' footsteps in transitioning to filmmaking. Oboler had directed three films prior to Five, and to keep costs down on the production the cast featured relatively unknown working actors, the crew was recruited from recent University of Southern California graduates, and the primary filming location was a Frank Lloyd Wright designed guest house on Oboler's Malibu ranch.
Reactions:
With its limited cast and locations, Five is dominantly the kind of no frills character study that would become more commonplace during the 1960s. It is simply and competently made with aesthetics that may remind modern day audiences of episodes of anthology television series, like The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits.
As implied by the title of the film, the small cast of characters includes five people: the pregnant Roseanne Rogers (Susan Douglas RubeÅ”), white everyman Michael Rogin (William Phipps), the aged bank clerk Oliver P. Barnstaple (Earl Lee), black everyman Charles (Charles Lampkin), and supposedly affluent adventurer Eric (James Anderson). Roseanne's sex and Charles' race become sources of drama, mostly because Eric exhibits a behavior described decades later by sociologists as "elite panic."
Lee Clarke and Caron Chess of Rutgers University coined the term in a 2008 journal article, in which based on available research and case studies of disasters from the 1950s through 2001 they determined that the source of panic in these scenarios was not the general public devolving into a mob, but by elites, fearing that their power and wealth would be violently stripped from them by a mob. Clarke and Chess specifically identify three relationships with panic that occur during disasters: elites fearing panic, elites causing panic, and elites panicking. My introduction to this concept came via an episode of the podcast Behind the Bastards recorded during November of 2020, when amid the COVID-19 pandemic and stress around the presidential election having a reminder that the majority of people are inherently giving, caring, communal creatures was a huge comfort.
In Five, after an initially violent encounter, Michael and Roseanne band together for survival, with Oliver and Charles later joining them. They compassionately deal with Roseanne's pregnancy and Oliver's mental dissociation and decline from radiation sickness amid their limited resources. Oliver's dying request to visit the nearby ocean results in the old man having as peaceful a death as available under the circumstances, and the discovery of a man washed ashore, Eric.
The injured Eric's explanation for how he survived the atomic bombing is bizarre compared to the banality of the others' explanations, who were shielded from the blast via being in an elevator, lead-lined hospital x-ray room, and bank vault, respectively. Instead Eric was actively climbing Mount Everest alone when a blizzard stranded him. When he made it back to basecamp he found other climbers dead. On foot and via abandoned conveyances Eric had made his way back to America, encountering no other survivors along the way, just dead bodies.
Eric's journey in its entirety sounds highly unlikely, but at first only one aspect utterly defied my credulity: who climbs Mount Everest alone? Mountaineering is not a pet topic of research for me, but I know enough to know that no serious climber attempts Everest without guides, frequently members of the local Sherpa community. "What happened to his sherpa?" I demanded aloud when we got to this point in the film. "Did he eat them?"
Given that Eric is gradually revealed to be a greedy opportunist, in retrospect his story may have been nothing but lies. It seems more likely he was in the United States the entire time and leapfrogged from one pocket of resources and survivors to another until he ended up washing up on the beach. Regardless of whether he actually was a billionaire or not--and the film does nothing to disprove his account--he nevertheless has an elite mentality: trying to hoard resources (including Roseanne) to himself.Ā
Eric is the sociopathic evolution of the wandering rapists from Deluge, and ultimately serves the narrative role of Michael's doppelganger. Michael may have initially tried to sexually assault Roseanne, but spends the rest of the film making up for that feral moment. Eric is predatory and ends up becoming a murderer in the course of the narrative; after being banished by the others, he goes back to steal supplies and kills Charles when he is caught. Michael is spared having to also become a murderer by the reveal near the end of the film that Eric has radiation poisoning and likely does not have much time left. The film makes it clear that Michael is a good man, and deserving of being the new Adam of the post-apocalyptic world.
Roseanne earns her new Eve status in part by being the token female, and in part because she is devoted to her missing husband until she finds definitive proof that he died in the bombing. Her dedication to her husband and baby are all that is needed to qualify her as a good woman.Ā
Unfortunately, her newborn dies for reasons of narrative convenience. Apparently it was too much to ask for Michael to be father to a baby he did not conceive. Instead it ends with Michael and Roseanne left alone. Despite the tragedies and threat of radiation sickness lingering, Five closes conservatively and reasonably optimistically: life will go on.
Before I wrap up, I would be remiss if I did not spend more time discussing Charles. His presence is itself a progressive act, given how the casts of most mainstream films surveyed thus far have been all or mostly white. However, he is introduced in a subservient role to an old white man, and spends the remainder of his time in the narrative as a litmus test to show who is the superior white man to repopulate the world: Michael or Eric. The notion that Charles might be a candidate for Roseanne's mate is never so much as suggested. For all the indignities Charles suffers throughout Five, he at least is spared the trope frequently placed on black men of being the first to die. Overall, Charles is a minor step forward for black representation in science fiction cinema.
Five, on the other hand, is a solid first representation of the post-nuclear apocalypse narrative. Later films built on the premise, like On the Beach (Dir. Stanley Kramer, 1959) and The World, the Flesh and the Devil (Dir. Ranald MacDougall, 1959), would result in better movies, but Five deserves greater attention within the sub-genre.

Call of Duty's Problems
It's important to know the problematic factors to media we consume, and then deciding for ourselves if it crosses the line. Just about everything we can consume in media is problematic in one way or another, nothing is perfect and it's gross and puritan to believe things should be.
But that doesn't change the fact that we still have to acknowledge those problems, and be critical thinkers about it.
I love Call of Duty, but I would be crazy not to admit that it has a dark side, even in recent games.
(I'm not debating the ethics of the FPS genre)
Propaganda
Tumblr media
ID: photo of common USA military advertisement, called The Calling.
Being a Triple A video game from the United States of America, it isn't too shocking to admit that US Military propaganda has found it's way into the franchise. After all, Call of Duty depicts the United States' military, and they are very particular about how their image is perceived back home.
Like in many militaristic nations, living the United States lots of military propaganda is shoved down your throat.
Universities and high schools often have recruiters hanging about and running programs of their own. Young adults are tailored to get constant advertisements from military branches. The usual...
Media presenting the US military in bad light is often suppressed in the United States' own sneaky ways. This includes Call of Duty.
Repeatedly Call of Duty has been called out for participating in US propaganda, as well as often being used as a tool by the US military for conditioning teenagers. Some major cases of this include but are not limited to
Participating in a major decade long project of creating a gamer to soldier pipeline
Helping fund military advertisements
Depicting certain historical actions of the United States in skewed pro-US perspectives
Many of the older games including lots of anti-Russian, anti-Latin American/Hispanic, and anti-Asian plotlines. This has gotten better overtime, but it is not completely fixed.
Representing common US media stereotypes
Call of Duty is mostly very open about this, especially in recent years, as they have gotten in trouble for it before. However this isn't a problem sole to Call of Duty and can be seen in the majority of popular military based media in the United States, including shows, movies, podcasts, YouTube channels, and video games.
One game infamous for going against this, as well as going against the glorification of war in the media is Spec Ops: The Line if you're interested.
Harmful Historical Inaccuracies
Tumblr media
Being simultaneously a historical fiction, sci-fi, and realism fiction it's expectant that Call of Duty would take advantage of history to tell a story. That's not the problem here.
The problem is when it's not there as part of the story, but instead a straight up historical inaccuracy that's supposed to be a fact. Call of Duty has done this multiple times.
Sometimes it's not only a historical inaccuracy but also a very harmful one, such as propagating skewed US history, lying about important fractions of history, or sweeping major events under the rug.
The most infamous and recent of this example is the highway of death presented in Modern Warfare II (2022).
The IRL Highway of Death is in the Middle Eastern country Kuwait, and was a site for major war crimes committed by the United States. The Highway of Death received its name during the Gulf War. The highway, outside of Kuwait City was viscously bombarded by artillery, ships, and especially air craft by the United States.
The US claimed there was a convoy there that they had the right to destroy, but their excessive force destroyed over 2000 vehicles with photos showing the vehicles to primarily be civilian ones. It was an intense massacre that doesn't even scratch the surface of other US crimes in that area.
How does Modern Warfare II portray it? Well it's a subtle singular line spoken by the characters, claiming that the Russians did the Highway of Death.
This is a major dodging of responsibility, and anti-russian/eastern propaganda. For obvious reasons it made many people (especially Slavic players) furious.
It isn't the first or only example of this in Call of Duty games, or FPS games in general, but it's a significant one.
This article from the Polygon does a very good job talking about the Highway of Death Controversy -> [x]
Activision-Blizzard
Tumblr media
Oh Activision-Blizzard... What a mess!
If you're unaware, Activision-Blizzard is a large video game mega corporation in the United States. It has ownership of tons and tons of iconic video game series.
And it's had tons and tons and tons of controversies.
Even right now it's major controversy is Microsoft buying it, which would make it into a monopoly of video games as Microsoft owns many series, and electronics (including the xbox console)
In the recent years and past Activision-Blizzard has had many problems with its workplace, video game finance decisions, and more. This includes a lot of employee misconduct, including infamous cases of sexual harassment in the workplace.
(Jesse McCree -> Cole Cassidy)
It's also been caught with lower pay for female employees, gives incredibly difficult deadlines for video game devs to meet, and generally is known to treat its employees like shit.
Call of Duty itself has been guilty for a lot of this activision-blizzard behavior too.
The sole companies themselves have done tremendous work in increasing diversity, and workplace safety in both their casts, developers, and even inside the games themselves.
Call of Duty is currently praised for this as it has made great strides, however this doesn't cover up how terrible Activision-Blizzard is to people. In fact it should be a major worry as Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard can easily regress that progress in name of bigotry, capitalism, and the United States.
What does this mean for Cod fans?
Unfortunately, like most major video game corporations, we are enjoying at our own risks. This is not a "LeTS BoYCotT cOd!" or a call to abandon the franchise.
It's instead a call to bring awareness that this is nowhere near a perfect franchise, and a franchise with many significant problems and a long history.
I'm going to continue playing the game of course
And you can too, except with a little bit more knowledge

The narc is right on schedule.
Tumblr media
Here we go again. Narcs love to spoil shit they can't control, and @cordeliaperry - formerly cyberwitch85 and who knows how many sockpuppets - pops up. She's got a hard-on for Merry Chissmas now, because if you've shit your pants in front of an entire fandom, what's one more fart in all the stink?
My first experience with her was when she threatened a friend with revenge porn. Another more comprehensive link here. It was not a rumor - it was something she did. She likes to delete her replies and edit her posts, so you have to document every interaction.
I did not dox her, though I do have the information from a post that she herself made. She's locked her archive and blocked me, but I do have screenshots and her showing her whole ass on other blogs. Receipts, baby.
The reason sheā€™s accusing me of doxing is because she donated to my cancer fund and I offered the money back. Someone, not me, sent her the money. I also turned over the $100 she funded me to a cancer charity. She also does not know the meaning of the word 'doxxing' which is the public exposition of personal information such as name, address, and so forth. However, it is a hot-button word that gets attention - and since she's a textbook narc, that's what she feeds on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a Boomer - it's an ageist dogwhistle from a person desperate to recruit her own army of flying monkeys. Gen X, represent.
She went full bunnyboiler on a writer formerly in the fandom, sending multiple hate anons - that were so obviously her. And there are so many, many, many of them.
She is alleged to have used her Discord server to spy on her 'friends' - one of the reasons I now avoid Discord servers.
Since she was not getting any traction attacking said author, she turned on one of the author's friends with a bloodthirsty campaign of harassment.
She bullied a Thrawn fan out of the fandom and from their blog. She might have done this to others that I don't know about, considering how many fans disappeared from the fandom when I was sick starting from February 2022 (diagnosis) to March/April of 2022 (recovery from last surgery).
She hates me because I've gotten very fucking tired of narcs torpedoing fandoms because they want to be a BNF. She bullied a lot of people, and people are scared to stand up to her. I don't give two farts in a tornado. I'll punch back on the bitch.
People are afraid of her - one reason that Merry Chissmas has an anon submission option. She allegedly gathered people's contact info to organize a fandom penpal activity, then also used an author's contact info to harass them. Nobody wanted to be next.
As she cycles through her narcissistic rage, she's staying on brand. Narcs love to ruin holidays and make it all about them. You can find out about the darker side of fandom here with history, tutorials on protecting yourself, resources, and other informative articles.
And finally, I offer a video of wisdom from Darren F. Magee - an excellent psychologist, fellow sci-fi nerd, and man on a mission.
youtube
If she can't control an event and if she can't be the center of attention, she'll do her level best to ruin it for everyone else. In the spirit of the holidays, I think I'm going to - a few times a week - post a screenshot of her clownery along with an appropriate Darren Magee video just to make the point.
Merry Chissmas, šŸ¤”

Starlight Shadows is a Dendry* game, submitted to the 2022 Edition of the EctoComp. This game was made in 4h or less. *Autumn is also an unofficial maintainer of theĀ Dendry format.
Status: Completed Genre: Sci-Fi
CW: / Note: Violence, Telepathy
============= Playthrough
First Played: Nov-2022 Last Played: 02-Jun-2023 Playtime: around 30min (2 playthroughs) Rating: 4 /5 Thoughts: Something is coming... will defeating it be enough?
============= Review
Starlight Shadows follows Lyra, a teenager with some sort of telepathic and prescient skills/powers, trying to figure out what to do after she gets a message that something wrong is about to happen at this (costumed?) party...
Spoilers ahead. It is recommended to play the game first. The review is based on my understanding/reading of the story.
This short game is quite simple: you have one hour to gather your fighters before a fight with those strange entities is about to break out, and fight them. Unlike Autumn's other time/resource-management-gameplay games, you are able to interact with (and potentially recruit) every named individuals: your twin brother who's annoyed by you derailing his party and would only relent to help with threats, your (maybe more/less) ex who's witnessed your powers before and know you mean business, the social butterfly who's just a school acquaintance and is really into that one old book series, and the underprivilege gifted kid who is a loner. Whether you convince them is a different story...
When you have recruited your agent(s) - you need at least one - you wait until the clock strikes 8 to run fight those strange entities. Follows a turn-based beat-em-up fight against one entity, revealing two endings: one failure where you are saved and told you require more training*, one winning where you realise there will be more fights ahead. *This was an interesting ending, teasing something a bit ominous, maybe an experiment?
The game feels more of a preview of a larger one (and it kind of might be), where you'd follow Lyra as she takes on fighting different entities, and save the world (or maybe not...) (and maybe explore that past incident?). But considering it was constrained to a 4h deadline for writing and coding, it is an impressive rounded piece on its own.
Even with its limited sizes, there are a handful of Easter Eggs from Autumn's previous work: referencing A Paradox Between Worlds in the book Cy is reading or during your conversation with Cassie (she is a big fan!) (also Cassie's name feels very APBW too), the mentions of DNA-storage/archiving mechanism from The Archivist & the Revolution*... Also the recurrent theme of the main character not liking being around crowd/attending parties (very Karen from Pageant vibes). *If the names of some of those characters are familiar, it's because they appear in documents of TA&R, making this game some sort of the latter's prequel...
Final note: only when writing this review did I realise that all characters were named after a constellation... and that is also related to the title...

Tumblr media
What are the Reasons for the RPO Surge?
There are numerous causes for this increase. The desire for more intelligent and effective hiring solutions in today's huge talent market is driving the phenomenal expansion of the RPO business. RPO gives companies a smart and economical approach to managing their staffing requirements. Whether you're a small startup or a large organization, RPO offers an affordable plus scalable solution. Thus, your employment procedure might expand together with your organization.
This RPO explosion is greatly influenced by your geographic location. Regulations, job marketplaces, and skill pools vary from place to place. This implies that hiring difficulties vary by location for businesses. However, they can get access to expert hiring assistance from RPO companies, who are familiar with local laws. Regardless of your locationā€”North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, or elsewhereā€”RPO suppliers can customize their offerings to meet your requirements. No matter where they are, businesses can easily navigate this crazy journey with RPO.
How Do Recruitment Process Outsourcing Companies Address a Diverse Talent Landscape?
Every place on Earth is unique and different. So, when it comes to finding the right people to hire, each spot has its own set of challenges. You might find plenty of talent in one place but struggle to find skilled workers in another. That's where RPO comes in. They are talented scouts with a map of the world. They know what each region is capable of. RPO companies know where the best people can be found, what makes them perform, and even the rules to follow to complete the hiring process. Consequently, recruitment process outsourcing companies are the ones that can assist firms in expanding their operations and setting up centers across the globe.
Tumblr media
What is the Role of Recruitment Process Outsourcing Companies in Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises?
Small and medium-sized businesses may find it challenging to break into new markets. It is difficult to build up an entire employment system in multiple locations around the world without the necessary tools. It's difficult, especially if your money is limited. Using recruitment process outsourcing companies could help businesses avoid attempting to manage things on their own. They are knowledgeable enough to scout the best talent quickly and cost-effectively. With RPO, SMEs can save money while still getting top-notch talent. Plus, recruitment process outsourcing companies are flexible, so businesses can scale up or down whenever they need to!
How can Technology be Harnessed by Recruitment Process Outsourcing Companies for Enhanced Recruitment?
Advances in technology are making their way into recruitment too. With AI and machine learning, the hiring process is getting a major upgrade. These tools aren't just being used for sci-fi movies anymore. They are changing the way businesses find their dream team. Recruitment process outsourcing companies are using the latest tech tools to zap away boring tasks, like sifting through endless resumes. With these high-tech tools, they make hiring faster, smarter, and smoother than ever before.
Tumblr media
Standardizing Talent Acquisition with Recruitment Process Outsourcing Companies Across Geographical Locations
As businesses expand globally, they face the challenge of maintaining consistency in hiring practices and employer branding across multiple geographical locations. Recruitment process outsourcing companies help with this by making sure everyone follows the same steps when hiring. They manage hiring from one central spot, making sure everything meets the rules and goals of the company, no matter where the job is. This helps keep things organized and makes sure everyone is on the same page. It makes everything easier to manage and helps everyone work together better.
How Does Geography Influence the Working of Recruitment Process Outsourcing Companies?
The geography of a region plays a big role in shaping the dynamics of the recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) market. Here's a detailed exploration of how geography influences RPO in different regions:
North America
Mature Outsourcing Industry: In North America, the RPO industry is really experienced. There are lots of companies that have been doing this for a long time, and they know the outsourcing practices. They've been doing business outsourcing for ages, and they've got all the tools and systems in place to make it work smoothly.
Technological Innovation: The region has a strong focus on technological innovation. It has led to the adoption of advanced recruitment technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in the RPO space. Besides, there is data analytics in play too. This emphasis on innovation enhances efficiency, streamlines processes, and improves candidate sourcing and selection.
Regulatory Environment: North America has relatively stable and well-defined regulatory processes in place compared to other regions. They provide clarity and consistency in compliance needs for RPO activities. This stability has led to trust and confidence among businesses in outsourcing their recruitment processes.
Tumblr media
Europe
Growing Need for Workforce Flexibility: In Europe, there is a growing need for workforce flexibility due to factors such as changing labor markets, demographic shifts, and evolving business models. As a result, companies in the region increasingly turn to RPO to gain agility in scaling their workforce up or down based on market demand.
Compliance Requirements: Europe has stringent labor laws and regulations for employment practices, including recruitment and hiring. Recruitment process outsourcing companies in Europe must overcome compliance requirements related to data protection, equal employment opportunities, and worker rights. Compliance expertise is, therefore, a critical factor for success in the European RPO market.
Regional Fragmentation: Europe consists of diverse countries with varying cultural norms, languages, and labor market trends. Recruitment process outsourcing companies need to be able to adjust their services to fit each place. This means they might need to speak different languages, understand different cultures, and know where to find the best workers in each area.
Asia-Pacific
Burdening Talent Pool: The Asia-Pacific region is now becoming a huge talent pool, driven by its large population and expanding workforce. Recruitment process outsourcing companies use this huge talent pool to offer scalable recruitment solutions to businesses operating in the region.
Rapid Digitalization: The rapid digitalization of recruitment processes in the Asia-Pacific region, driven by technology and internet use, is reshaping the RPO landscape. Digital platforms, social media recruiting, and online talent marketplaces are becoming increasingly prominent, leading to efficient candidate sourcing, engagement, and assessment.
Diverse Economic Conditions: The Asia-Pacific region shows a wide range of economic conditions, from highly developed economies like Japan and Australia to emerging markets such as India and Southeast Asia. Recruitment process outsourcing companies must adapt their process to address these diverse economic regions. They should offer flexible pricing models, scalable solutions, and localized expertise to meet the needs of businesses across different markets.
Conclusion
RPO is growing fast because businesses need experts to handle tricky hiring processes. They want cost-effective ways to hire people. Recruitment process outsourcing companies who are using new tech make it easier for them. Plus, in today's world, where businesses are expanding in all directions, it's important to have the same hiring rules everywhere.
Geography plays a big part in all this. Different places have different talent pools, which affects how hard it is to find the right people. It also shapes how quickly new hiring ideas catch on and how much tech is used to recruit people. Businesses can take the help of recruitment process outsourcing companies to understand what's going on in each region. That way, they can pick the right hiring strategy for each place and get the best people on board without any hiccups. If you're struggling with your hiring process, why not consider outsourcing to Recruit Ninjas? Our expert team specializes in finding the perfect candidates for your business, saving you time and effort. With Recruit Ninjas, you can focus on what you do best while we handle all your recruitment needs efficiently and effectively.

Andromeda Evolution
Series: The Andromeda Strain (#2)
Author: Daniel H. Wilson
My Rating: 2/10 āā
Goodreads rating: 3.71/5
Date Read: Early 2022
Plot Summary: Following the events of the Andromeda Strain scientists believed the Andromeda Strain was no longer a threat and it faded from public attention. Many decades later, a government watch program finds signs that the Andromeda Strain is reemerging in the Amazon rainforest. An elite team of scientists is recruited to travel to the appearing anomaly, study it, and ultimately figure out how to stop it. They must travel through uncharted areas of the forest while fighting an unknown alien force that wants to stop their meddling at any cost. Tragedy and action go hand and hand in this story as the scientists make necessary sacrifices to save the world.
TL:DR: A poor attempt at recapturing the scientific wonder found in books like The Martian, this book suffers from dense, unnecessary scientific explanations, horrible characters, obnoxious foreshadowing and a bad antagonist.
Thoughts and Feelings: The original Andromeda Strain was a sci fi book written in 1969 by Michael Crichton who also wrote the Jurassic Park books. He was a great science fiction writer with really good ideas. It's a book I look back on very fondly. So when I found out there was a follow up book written by a different author I was extremely curious. Especially because the original story did not leave any room for sequels. So this story was already starting at a deficit and unfortunately it did not make up for it in any way. I had not read any books by Daniel Wilson before this book and I do not plan on reading anymore of his books after it.
The first half of this book is dragged down by a lot of unnecessary science that is not necessary to the story, the characters, or the understanding of the technology being presented. It feels like it was trying to mimic the type of science rambling and explanation that was so successful in Andy Weir's books, but in Andromeda Evolution the science lacks any character. In The Martian we have Mark Watney infusing his wit and sarcasm into the explanations, but in this book it reads like a text book with no personality.
Foreshadowing is a technique that should be subtle and used sparingly throughout a book. Andromeda Evolution ends every single chapter with a premonition of the future events of the book to the point where it stops being foreshadowing and becomes spoilers in their own rights. It resulted in me not being surprised by anything that was happening as well as keeping me from caring about the characters or the stakes being raised. Because I already knew what was going to happen.
The characters in this book are bad. All of the characters are introduced right at the beginning subsequently and the introductions throw the recommendation of 'show don't tell' straight out the window. You will have to suffer through boring descriptions of these scientists idiosyncracies and the struggles that they have fought through to get where they are. Of a special mention is the introduction of the female characters. Wilson makes sure to shove down the readers' throats that these women have struggled and they have been discriminated against there whole lives. And because of that they are super amazing, smart, and capable of taking care of themselves. Too bad they don't ever get to really display that.
There's just no nuance to this book and while there is action going on through out it ends up feeling boring.
Spoiler Thoughts and Feelings below
To continue on with my dislike of the characters in this book, the primary antagonist and secret villain behind the mutation and spread of the virus being the disabled woman who is apparently a psychopath whose only goal is to murder all of her teammates and 'force the human race' to evolve faster is just so not it.
Also the romance between Jeremy Stone and Nidhi Vedala was SO WEIRD and unnecessary and badly written. The book starts with Nidhi describing in detail how much she hates Jeremy and then through the course of the event of the books through no character growth or real interactions she ends up in love with him. The female characters in this book were written as if Daniel was really trying to write 'strong female characters' but he has not idea what that means and just made them 2D images of what a strong woman might be.

A woman loses her phone on her way back to her countryside childhood home. Once there, she connects an old landline in hopes of finding her lost mobile, only to start receiving weird calls that seem to be from 20 years ago.
On the other side of the receiver is a girl who seems to be in danger. The Call is thrilling, sometimes scary, but also brilliantly shot, and its plot is so expertly woven. Itā€™s a proper movie-night movie.
Apollo 10Ā½: A Space Age Childhood (2022)

Actor: Bill Wise, Brian Villalobos, Buzz Aldrin, David DeLao, Glen Powell, Holt Boggs, Jack Black, Janis Joplin, Jennifer Griffin, Jessica Brynn Cohen, John F. Kennedy, Josh Wiggins, Keslee Blalock, Larry Jack Dotson, Lee Eddy, Milo Coy, Mona Lee Fultz, Neil Armstrong, Nick Stevenson, Richard Nixon, Samuel Davis, Walter Cronkite, Zachary Levi
Director: Richard Linklater
Rating: PG-13

Narrated by the familiar voice of Jack Black, Apollo 10 Ā½ is a throwback story told with admirable specificity and imagination. Black plays a grown-up Stan, who looks back on his younger years with a mix of fondness and wonder: how did they get away with the things they did then? American suburbia in the 1960s was both loose and conservative, caught between a generation holding on to the reins of the earlier century and one eager to launch into the next.
Stan, as the youngest child of a big, rowdy family, gives us a charming look into the times, as well as a projection of his own fascination: Apollo 11 and the space age. He inserts himself in this monumental narrative and generously brings us along in his fantasy. Sometimes itā€™s hard to tell whether Stanā€™s recruitment by NASA is actually fact or fiction, but thatā€™s part of the fun, especially since Stan himself doesnā€™t seem to mind at all.

They Cloned Tyrone is a genre-bending gem. It combines Deep State conspiracy theories with sci-fi and social commentary, all while looking like a futuristic 1970s Blaxploitation film. Itā€™s outrageous good fun and pleasing to look at (here is a film that knows how to properly light Black actors), but there are times when it feels too far fetched. The science can get wonky and its commentary on gentrification lacking, but all is forgiven when you have such a strong trio of leads. One of the smartest things They Cloned Tyrone does is pair Boyega with Teyonah Parris, who plays the call girl Yo-yo, and Jamie Foxx, who plays the pimp Slick Charles. They have a fun-loving no-nonsense chemistry about them that makes them easy to attach to and root for. Theyā€™re also just very funny, which might be expected of Foxx but it comes as a pleasant surprise for Parris, whose popular turns in Mad Men and WandaVision prove that sheā€™s been severely underutilized as a comic.
Snowpiercer (2014)
Genre: Action, Drama, Mystery, Science Fiction

Snowpiercer is an under-the-rader post-apocalyptic thriller that offers the grittiness that many times only Asian cinema may achieve. South Korean director Joon-ho Bong forces audiences to forget that Chris Evans was ever a Marvel superhero, as he leads a revolt of his fellow ā€œlow-classā€ citizens against the self-appointed gentry in a train that contains all remaining members of the planet. With immersive environments and a layered script, this film melds together social commentary and moral discourse in a visually arresting and vastly entertaining package.
Okja (2017)

Director Bong Joon-ho (Snowpiercer) does something quite amazing with the $50 million budget Netflix gave him: he makes a simplistic movie. But man, is it good. Okja tells the story of a ā€œsuper pigā€ experiment that sends genetically modified pigs to top farmers around the world. In Korea, a farmerā€™s granddaughter forms a special relationship with one of these super pigs (Okja). When the company who originally ran the experiment want their pig back (performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton) ā€“ the two find an ally in an animal advocacy group led by Jay (Paul Dano). This is a straightforward movie, but nevertheless it is entertaining and full of thought-provoking themes and performances from an excellent cast.

Moonfall (2022)
Film review #573
Director: Roland Emmerich
SYNOPSIS: K.C. Houseman, a conspiracy theorist, uses a research telescope to confirm his suspicions that the moon's orbit is changing and moving closer to Earth, and will eventually collide with it. NASA eventually confirm the findings and mass panic ensues. They send a rocket up to the moon to investigate, but the shuttle is attacked by a mysterious entity. Brian, an astronaut who was fired in disgrace after a space mission he was on was similarly attacked and no one believed him, leaving his reputation destroyed, is now tasked with one more mission to try and stop the moon from destroying the Earth...
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: Moonfall is a 2022 sci-fi disaster film. The plot, unsurprisingly, revolves around the moon falling to Earth. Conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman, who believes that the moon is a artificial superstructure, and its orbit is decaying. It turns out he is right, and when NASA confirms it, mass panic sets in across the world. A shuttle mission to investigate the moon is attacked by a strange entity, and destroyed. It turns out to be the same entity former astronaut Brian Harper claimed attacked his mission ten years before, but as no one believed him, and was sacked and his reputation tarnished. His former crewmate Jocinda Fowler, who is now deputy director of NASA, recruits him to lead one more mission to the moon to try and correct the moon's orbit before it collides with the Earth. The film is quite simply a combination of the films Armageddon and Independence Day. In fact, the director Roland Emmerich also directed the latter, so I'm pretty sure it was deliberate. The realism of a disaster film just doesn't work well with the plot about aliens and rogue AI and whatnot, and a lot of stuff is just skimmed over. A lot of the plot points make very little sense, such as why the A.I....thing would just hide in the moon and try to bring it down, rather than attack the planet directly if that it was aiming to do. There doesn't feel like there's much of an attempt for the film to carve out its own identity, rather just picking bits from what previous films have done successfully. Then again, the sheer cheesiness of the plot and setups might make for mindless, entertaining viewing, but it's definitely hard to take it seriously.
The characters are all fairly cookie-cutter with nothing really distinguishable. Brian and Jocinda are just very standard lead roles, and K.C. Houseman provides the comic relief with one-liners that aren't memorable or really funny. The trailer for the film has him respond with a quip after every scene or serious moment without rest, and while it's okay to lighten the mood once in a while, doing this constantly really stops the suspense and story dead in its tracks. The characters also have their own families who are trying to get to safety, providing a perspective from "ordinary" people on the disaster that is unfolding: again, just like Independence Day. None of these characters stand out in particular, and their scenes feel like they're there to pad out the runtime. With the film coming in over two hours and ten minutes, the film definitely feels padded.
When the mission makes it to the inside of the Moon, they discover the inside is a Dyson Sphere: a man made structure with a white dwarf star housed inside to power it. We are also treated to a lengthy exposition about how humans once existed on another planet but were destroyed by a rogue A.I., so these superstructures were sent to potential habitable planets to populate them with the DNA of human life, but the A.I. thing (I don't really know what it is) has now found Earth and is causing the moon to fall to destroy the humans. It's nothing you haven't heard or seen before, and lumping in all this stuff near the end does detract from the disaster theme a little. The ending feels like it's very much on auto-pilot, as Brian encounters a "good A.I." or something, and somehow now knows how to pilot around the superstructure to destroy the bad A.I., which ruins any kind of tension in the climax. In terms of effects and CG, it's actually not too bad: you get a good sense of the scale of destruction in the landscape shots, but the effects of the Moon's effect on gravity is entirely inconsistent throughout, and it can mostly be explained away as it's for the purpose of the plot. Anyway, Moonfall is a mash-up of what you've seen before, with Roland Emmerich doing exactly what you expect in producing an over-the-top disaster film with a very typical cast of characters. It's plot is all over the place, and is completely implausible most of the time. It is a brainless, cheesy sci-fi film that may serve as a silly ride that might entertain, but you're going to struggle to believe anything in the movie is plausible.

What is AI bias, and how it occurs?
Tumblr media
What is AI bias, and how it occurs?
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become the talk of the town in the tech world and beyond in recent years, with the emergence of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022, adding fuel to the fire. While most of the debate has centered on general topics like AIā€™s huge potential and its undeniable benefits, it might be best to take things one step at a time and focus on a more specific and pressing issue - AI bias.Ā  For all the advantages AI brings, one canā€™t deny that the technology is still in its infancy and therefore marred with numerous flaws and shortcomings. Besides its current limitations and high costs, bias can be considered one of AIā€™s most significant deficiencies. Thatā€™s also why the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy recently released a blueprint for the AI Bill of Rights that aims to offer protection against the harm that can be caused by AI bias. This topic is more comprehensively covered in ExpressVPNā€™s blog piece.Ā  You may think that AI is just a buzzword for now and still worlds away from entering the mainstream, but the truth is that large-scale AI adoption is already well underway. Technology has penetrated nearly every industry and sector and continues to gain ground by the day. Recent studies show that experts believe AI and robotics will become an integral part of our lives by 2025, with increasing businesses resorting to AI-based solutions to run their operations. That is not a scenario for a sci-fi movie, but the reality weā€™re facing. And while it may be too early to make assumptions about a world dominated by AI, the time is right to address AI bias and its implications.Ā
What is AI bias?
AI solutions are implemented not only to make our lives easier and more comfortable. They aim to streamline processes, reduce or eliminate errors, save time, and increase accuracy, efficiency, and performance. Therefore, this cutting-edge technology can bring a plethora of improvements in every field of activity. Thatā€™s how things would play out if AI systems were perfect. Unfortunately, these tools and machines are far from ideal.Ā Ā  So, what exactly is AI bias? Also known as machine learning bias or algorithm bias, the term describes a situation when instead of producing fair results, an algorithm delivers biased results due to prejudiced assumptions made in the machine learning process that has affected the algorithm's development. An AI system is only as good as the data that is put into it. Any issue regarding the quality, size, and accuracy of the data used to develop and train the algorithm will be reflected in its outputs.Ā  Therefore, AI bias can come in all forms, from reporting bias to selection or attribution bias and everything in between, potentially leading to unfair recruiting, gender prejudices, or racial discrimination. For example, an AI-based facial recognition system may have difficulty recognizing darker-skinned faces because the subjects used to develop the AI model were predominately light-skinned. That is just one instance of AI bias that shows how one minor detail or inaccuracy in the teaching phase can sway results in one direction.Ā
How does AI bias happen?Ā
Tumblr media
Given that AI systems have become ubiquitous in many sensitive areas, such as finance, justice, and healthcare, we need to ensure they produce results that donā€™t favor or disfavor anyone. So, while itā€™s important to bring awareness to AI limitations and discuss potentially biased results, itā€™s even more crucial to identify the sources of this bias so we can work toward eliminating them and leveling the playing field.Ā  Usually, AI bias happens involuntarily, despite creatorsā€™ best efforts at building a completely fair system, and many variables can lead to less-than-perfect results. Nonetheless, experts have been able to identify and separate culprits into the following categories: Developer biasĀ  Humans develop AI, so unsurprisingly, an AI system is subjected to the same biases and prejudices as its creators. While the idea behind AI is to develop systems that mimic the intelligence and capabilities of the human mind, we shouldnā€™t forget that people are inherently flawed. Thatā€™s how many AI tools end up emulating human intelligence and their prejudices and biases.Ā  Data biasĀ
Tumblr media
We tend to think of data as this infallible source of information, but data patterns can also be plagued by bias. If the data sets used to train an AI model are biased, the system will inevitably be biased in its analysis. That is why data quality needs to become a main point of concern for AI developers.Ā  Interaction biasĀ  Some AI systems are designed to extract information from their environment and learn through user interactions, as humans usually do. That might sound like a great way to expand capabilities and ensure a human-like response, but it also means that the AI system borrows all the erroneous assumptions of the people using it.Ā  Association bias Algorithms can often associate different data sets, but that doesnā€™t mean these associations are always accurate or correct. Implicit association errors are also at the root of AI bias since these systems are not advanced enough to identify and correct these faults.Ā  Range biasĀ  When an AI tool is developed by analyzing data from a very specific group of subjects, the system will likely perform more efficiently when employed on that specific group. Biased results may arise if the AI is transferred to a different context.Ā  Thereā€™s no denying that artificial intelligence still has a long way to go before it can be put on par with human intelligence. So, while developers are still working on addressing the gaps, we should all keep an eye out for biases.Ā  Ā  Read the full article

3 Hot New Web3 Games in 2023
The past year 2022 has been a down year. Global economic activity has generally slowed and more severely than expected, inflation is at its highest level in decades, and global economic growth rates continue to decline, and are expected to fall from 6.0% in 2021 to 3.2% in 2022 and 2.7% in 2023, according to the World Bank.
Tumblr media
Conditions in the crypto market are affected by the global economy and are similarly dismal. But there is no shortage of ambitious Web3 games in the industry in 2022, and even a large number of AAA productions entering the market to compete. Iā€™ve picked out three Web3 games that might surprise you by making a big splash in 2023.
1. Illuvium
Illuvium is an open world narrative driven exploration game. A unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy, you travel from region to region battling and capturing Illuvials, then using them as part of your assembled team.
It combines elements of traditional RPG collection games with fight mechanics seen in the popular Auto Battler genre. Both casual and immersive, players can spend as much or as little time as they wish. Success relies on the creation of a strategically sound and diverse team.
Tumblr media
2. Cashbox (Metaverse)
Cashbox is a nft games from the ā€œpastā€, nowadays all crypto games in the market are set in the distant future, but Cashbox is special, it takes the ancient world civilization as the background and builds a meta-universe parallel to the real world. You can summon Mythical beasts to ally and fight with other teams from other worlds to stabilize the order of the multiverse. Each Mythical beasts is a unique NFT who will become uniquely valuable in battle after battle. Collect them well, I believe this is the first time you have seen an NFT that will actively increase in value like this.
Tumblr media
3. E4C: Final Salvation
E4C: Final Salvation is a unique SRPG + MOBA + Sandbox game that focuses on solving real-world problems by introducing the perspectives and stories of its residents through an immersive game-in-game experience in the metaverse.
Players will be able to experience our projected dystopian future firsthand through the eyes of their in-game protagonists and shape its evolution. All players will have the opportunity to grow with the storyline by purchasing weapons to improve battle stats and recruiting more characters to build a strong community culture.

I think in some sense they're victims of their own success.
The take economy is about information value gain, and BAP & Co. took advantage of the social taboos present in 2015 to provide a higher value of returns relative to the conservative establishment, with a portfolio of positions with greater epistemic and moral leverage (leverage as in the 'debt-financed' meaning in "leveraged buyout").
While the Overton window narrowed in major left-leaning institutions 2017-2022, it has widened on the political right more generally.
New actors like Rufo (and to some degree, Hanania) were able to consolidate the positions from BAP & Co. with lower epistemic and moral debt loads into a new product more palatable to mainstream audiences, reducing the gain between mainstream-accepted actors and BAP & Co.
Website landscape changes are an important factor.
Substack enabled Matt Yglesias to begin his program of reducing the epistemic debt load of the Democratic party constellation (reducing the relative value of rightism generally), and Razib Khan to provide a more centrist outlet for discussion of ancient human migration patterns. Science summary blogger CrƩmieux (tw:cremieuxrecueil) also covers a broader array of studies in addition to demographic studies, which enables him to build legitimacy to spend.
Meanwhile, Musk's takeover of Twitter broke the ideology-coordinating power of the previous bluechecks (which had allowed them to converge on some really dumb ideas), reduced the censorship load, and introduced the Community Notes feature, which reduced the value gain from the "dissident right" generally by being a powerful non-partisan attack against the misinformation the previous bluecheck class were accustomed to spreading.
Steve, the long-term competitor, is more focused on the reliability of his product, and lacks the 'killing instinct' we see with BAP. He has a lower moral and epistemic debt load, and isn't really impacted by the changes.
This whole situation has left BAP & Co. to either push into even higher-risk territory, or continue with the same takes but with less gain.
BAP has been exercising some leadership, such as setting the message on the Israel-Palestine conflict (wrangling the native far right), but available alternatives shrink BAP's potential recruiting pool, and also make it more difficult to convert people to the far right.
While sales of his (most probable BAP candidate) recent book seem to be robust, I think the medium-term and long-term projections look worse for him.
Note: I do *not* endorse BAPism.
I will now discuss the underlying ideological basis, and why technological change is likely to disrupt BAP's coalition, requiring at least a reorientation and new ideological development.
BAPism is implicitly (80% weight) based on what I call the Biocapital Meltdown theory, in which an accumulating load of deleterious genetic mutations caused by a (quite dramatic) industrial-era reduction in mortality, in combination with unproductive and uninventive people reproducing ("mere life"), undermines both the general health and cognitive capital of the population, leading to an inability to produce and maintain advanced industry.
But the ground is shifting underneath.
Even though the arrival of genetic engineering has been reported in mainstream news sources, with the FDA's approval of Kyrmiah for a form of pediatric leukemia in 2017, it has not yet become general knowledge in the population, the same way the existence of e.g. heart transplants has. That will change over the next 10 years.
Genetics will, in part, exit the domain of ancestry, and enter the domain of industry. No longer will it be a matter of proposing a futuristic sci-fi technology that may never come, seeming to many as nothing more than an excuse to avoid spending money on social problems, rather it will be a matter of proposing that an existing technology will get better and cheaper.
This changes the foundational assumptions in play for all ideologies.
In ten years, our genetics technology still won't be overwhelmingly powerful; we'll have a roster of probably mid-two-digits cures for people with particular illnesses caused by particular gene variants, with more under development.
Assuming that the Biocapital Meltdown is even in the cards this century, which is one Hell of an assumption, and very much a disputed one...
The problem for BAPism is that it's an ideology of tremendous moral sacrifice (like "decolonization" and "degrowth"). The question will be, "Why should I accept something as dramatic as bringing back pre-industrial mortality rates, instead of just waiting another ten years for better genetics tech?"
As long as the industry can keep pace, that question comes up every decade from 2030 onwards. Given the rate at which sequencing and synthesis costs have declined, it's likely that the industry can keep pace at only y2k levels of oppression, with modest immigration restrictionism, placement based on standardized testing, and no identitarian quotas on hiring, using the international system of sovereign countries for which the historical founding oppression is a sunk cost.
The early 21st century is just not a good time to invest in exciting new systems of oppression, whether that's BAPism, decolonization, or degrowth.
I think a BAPism which can answer this challenge either exists in the shadow of catastrophe, or has become Post-BAPism.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, but the whatever-you-call-it cluster of the internet right (e.g. the group centered around BAP, Zero HPL, Passage Publishing etc.) has zero value preposition for basically anyone. Completely collapsed into their own assess, to the level that would put most fervent DSA theorycels to shame. Reduced to inane mean-girls-act catfighting on twitter all day every day.
