Why do you think Ms Bustier and other adults enabled Chloe?
Do you mean Ms. Bustier and the other teachers? You saw what happened when she and Principal Damocles finally pushed back against Chloe in season 5. She got them fired. And it's not like this is a new thing, she threatened to call her daddy if Damocles didn't punish Alya more severely in Lady Wifi, and used that same threat to get out of cleaning in Despair Bear. Just because the teachers are adults and are technically authority figures, doesn't mean they're actually the ones with power in this situation. The only teacher involved who DIDN'T get fired, Ms. Mendeleiv, catered to Chloe's every whim.
If you're talking about Andre, then it's because he's a coward who can't stand the task of actually parenting and guiding a child and just throws his weight at doing whatever's necessary to stop Chloe from whining.
#ask#miraculous ladybug#chloe bourgeois#Andre's at fault for his parenting#But the teachers in the school really don't have a lot of options to deal with chloe

Angst Headcanon: When Marc Was Bullied at His Old School…
Italics= Thoughts and Narrations
Bold+Italics= Marc's negative thoughts
Principal Clément’s Office
(The office was eerily quiet. Marc Anciel sat anxiously in a chair facing his principal’s desk, his fingers nervously fidgeting as he finished recounting the events that had just transpired. A pair of broken glasses sat in his lap. His hair was a distorted mess with pieces frayed all over at different angles. His entire upper body felt sore and he felt his arms pulsing with pain. The principal, Mrs. Clément, listened to Marc’s story patiently as she waited for the boy to finish. Marc had come to her after the latest bullying incident had occurred, which involved Marc getting both physically and verbally harassed by a group of students. Marc winced at the memory of enduring the bullies’ vicious mockery and berating while being pushed and shoved around against the lockers. One of them had grabbed him by his hair and held him in place against the locker while two others punched his arms and another one stepped on his glasses that fell off his face while he was getting shoved around and broke them. And all of this torment was just because Marc wore a skirt to school today, which wasn’t anything new. Marc has had to deal with bullying ever since he started middle school, but this year, the bullying became both verbal and physical. He’s tried to tell his teachers multiple times about the bullying and asked for help, but they never did anything about it. They always took the side of the bullies rather than the victims. This time, however, Marc had gathered up the courage to seek help from the school’s principal, hoping that she would have at least an ounce of sympathy for him and try to help him. After Marc had finished talking, the two of them sat in silence for a moment as Mrs. Clément took in the anxious boy’s recount. Then the principal began to speak.)
Mrs. Clément: Marc, I hear your concerns and I assure you that our school has zero tolerance for bullying, but I also believe there may have been a misunderstanding on your part.
Marc: (shocked) A-A misunderstanding…?!
Mrs. Clément: Marc, I can assure you that these students that you are accusing of wrongdoing are good children. They get good grades, have no prior history of violence or any allegations against them about bullying their fellow students, and their teachers speak very highly of their behavior in the classroom. To put it frankly, I find it difficult to believe that these students would intentionally cause harm to another student. That is not to say that I don’t believe your side of the story, but I do believe that perhaps you may have misinterpreted their actions or confused their acts of horseplay as acts of aggression.
Marc: (still in shock) H-Horseplay?! She thinks they were horseplaying?!
Mrs. Clément: If I recall correctly from your account of what happened, only the male students from that group were “pushing you around” and “punching your arms” as you have stated. It is not uncommon for boys your age to roughhouse with each other Marc. Perhaps they were simply just playing around with you. I can understand how you could misinterpret this as an act of violence against you. After all, you only have two mothers in your household and no father to guide you on normal boy behavior. Sure, you may have your younger brother, but again, no father. You probably have no idea what is considered normal behavior for boys your age to exhibit, but take the advice from someone who has spent years dedicated to the educational system and who has guided hundreds of young boys every year. I can assure you that these boys meant you no harm when they were roughhousing with you in the locker rooms.
(Marc was speechless from hearing the principal’s words. She was doing what all the other teachers Marc had gone to for help did, siding with the bullies and praising them as “good students”. Meanwhile, she was also trying to fabricate some story that Marc was just confused by their actions just because he was raised by two moms and didn’t have a father. The boy was growing tired of his teachers and fellow students using that excuse against him, especially when they used it as an interpretation as to why Marc liked to wear makeup, skirts, and dresses, which was the furthest thing from the truth since his mama prefers wearing pants and suits over skirts and dresses and his mom doesn’t even wear makeup in favor of the natural look. Marc wanted to say something. He wanted to speak up and argue with his principal that she was wrong and that what those boys did to him wasn’t just “boys being boys”, but Marc couldn’t find the courage in him to speak up. His mouth was clamped shut and he knew that even if he opened it up to speak out, no words would come out. Besides, he knew better than to argue with or “talk back” to the authority figures at his school. It would only make things worse.)
Mrs. Clément: As for the matter in regards to your claim of them teasing you, I wouldn’t bother worrying about that either if I were you, dear. They are just words and though harsh as they may be, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. After all, if no one were allowed to express their opinions, there would be no honesty left in the world, now would there?
Marc: (speaks softly and hesitantly) N-no…I guess there wouldn’t be…
Mrs. Clément: (smiles contently) Exactly. There isn’t any need for us to all get worked up over a group of kids just speaking their minds and I highly suggest that you don’t even give them the time of day if their words bother you so much and just ignore them. Words can only hurt you if you let them hurt you and only have power if you give them power.
Marc: T-That’s what I have been doing…I-I have tried ignoring them for years now and it’s never worked! Y-Yeah…I guess you got a point there…
Mrs. Clément: See? Now you are starting to understand how pointless it is to make a big fuss over a few small misunderstandings. I’m glad that we were able to clear this up without having to turn this whole thing into a big investigation. It would have just wasted everyone’s time with interviews and don’t even get me started on the paperwork. Incident reports have to be filled out. And just think about how your two mothers, who already worry themselves to death over you, would react to this situation.
(Marc felt a sense of dread and anxiety run through his body at the mention of his mothers. He knew exactly how they would react if they found out that he was getting bullied and he didn’t want to cause them any more trouble or worries that he was already giving them. They had enough on their plate to worry about and Marc didn’t want to add on to it just because he wasn’t strong enough to endure some assholes.)
Mrs. Clément: I’m sure you can understand that bringing your mothers into something so insignificant and meaningless wouldn’t do anyone any good. I can imagine that both of them would be beside themselves with worry and well…we both know how… “chaotic” your birth mother can be. After all, we wouldn’t want a repeat of what happened during our last Career Day to happen again, right?
(Marc shuddered at the memory of that day. What should’ve been a day when parents and guardians came in to talk about their jobs escalated into a shit-show. All because one of the homophobic teachers could not resist badmouthing his mothers about their lifestyle and insisting that “depriving” Marc of a father figure was damaging to him and unhealthy for his development. If only that teacher knew the consequences that awaited her for pissing off his mama. In short, it involved Marc’s mama chasing after the teacher and threatening to beat her with a chair, while Marc and his mom watched the madness unfold. The chase lasted for about twenty minutes until his mom decided to show the teacher some mercy. As much as his mom enjoyed watching his mama beat the crap out of a homophobe, she also didn’t want Marc to witness that amount of graphic violence. That was when she instructed Marc to lie down at the bottom of the stairs and pretend to be hurt to snap her wife out of her rage. Fortunately, his mama’s maternal instincts kicked in just in the nick of time because she had the teacher cornered with nowhere to run. The school and his moms were able to agree that the teacher wouldn’t press charges against his mama for almost assaulting her with a chair if his mama agreed to only set foot on campus grounds if she was escorted by her wife and to behave in a “civilized” manner while on campus grounds. His mama accepted the terms of the agreement, albeit begrudgingly since nothing was done about the teacher who made those homophobic remarks, but at least now everyone at that school knew never to talk shit about her family again. Now, however, Marc imagined an even worse scenario in which his mama would find out about him getting bullied. Though Marc knew that his mama would never physically harm a teenager, she would definitely tear his bullies to shreds by beating them in their own game of verbal assaults. They would probably be traumatized for life and need years of therapy afterward, and regardless of how terrible they were, Marc knew that no one deserved such a fate to befall them. As for the teachers and principal…Marc didn’t even want to think about what his mama would do to them.)
Marc: (speaks hesitantly with his head lowered and eyes staring at the broken glasses in his lap) N-No…ma’am. I-I don’t w-want that…y-you are right. I-I guess I was just overreacting a bit. I-I am s-so sorry to waste your time. I wasn’t th-thinking and being selfish.
(Marc avoided eye contact with Mrs. Clément as he felt his eyes start to water and steeled himself the best he could to keep his tears in. He didn’t want to start breaking down in tears in front of the principal. All he wanted now was for this pointless conversation to be over so he could leave to have his emotional breakdown somewhere private before he had to head back to class. He also noticed pressure beginning to build up in his chest and breathing in and out was not as smooth and easy as before. The principal, oblivious to the young boy’s oncoming anxiety attack, smiled softly and stood up from her desk chair. She walked over to where Marc was sitting and stood behind him, gently placing her hands on his shoulders. Though this gesture was intended to comfort the young boy, what it did was make Marc feel worse.)
Mrs. Clément: Oh come now, Marc. It isn’t entirely your fault. After all, you are still young, and sometimes young people tend to make a big deal out of little things that are not worth all the fuss and drama. But that is why you have adults in your life such as your teachers and myself at this school to guide you and help make sense of things that you don’t fully understand. Like I always say, children can resolve any issue if they just talk it out with the adults around them first. I bet you feel much better now that we have talked about this simple misunderstanding and resolved your problems.
Marc: No, I don’t. I feel a lot worse now. Y-Yes ma’am. I-I do.
Mrs. Clément: (claps her hands together) Perfect! That is just wonderful to hear. Now, I do believe that your next class will be starting soon. Let’s try to have a better day today. After all, you have soccer practice after school today and I am sure your team would want you to be at your best during practice.
Marc: (forces himself to speak up) A-Actually…I’m not going to soccer practice today. I decided that I didn’t want to play soccer anymore this year.
Mrs. Clément: (raises an eyebrow in confusion) Oh really? Why not, dear?
(Marc lifted his head and made eye contact with the principal. The young boy had no idea if the concern in Mrs. Clément’s voice was sincere or not.)
Marc: I-It just isn’t for me and I don’t really have must interest in it anymore. It was fun being on the team for two years…b-but I’m really not that good at soccer and I would only be dragging them down. Be-Besides, I-I’ve been wanting to focus more on my writing for a while and now I will have more free time to do so.
(Marc forced himself as he anxiously waited for the principal’s response, hoping that the woman was buying the lies that he just told. In truth, Marc didn’t want to quit soccer. He loved soccer and has played the sport ever since he was three. He just couldn’t take the bullying that he was getting from his teammates now anymore.)
Mrs. Clément: (smiles) Well, that’s great to hear that you are pursuing your true passion. Though I am sure that everyone on your team will miss having you around.
Marc: No they won’t. They are probably celebrating over the fact that I am gone, not that I can blame them. I was useless on that team anyway. They didn’t need me…
(Marc stood up from his chair and exchanged goodbyes with his principal as she led him out of her office. As soon as the office door was closed, Mrs. Clément walked back over to her chair and fell into it with an exasperated sigh.)
Mrs. Clément: (sighs) Ugh…hopefully that will keep that whiny little brat out of my hair for a while. If one good thing came out of today, that lousy little ****** is quitting the soccer team. About time! Our sports team doesn’t need another year of being represented by another whiny little ******.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phew, well there you have it. The first and only time that Marc went to his former principal for help back when he was attending his old school. This was also the last time he went to an adult for help because after talking to the principal, he finally realized that nobody in that school cared that he was getting bullied and they weren't going to do anything to help him. It also explains why Marc never told his mothers about him getting bullied because he hated making others people feel worried about him (and because he didn't want his Mama to attack the school faculty with her bat again).
Also, if you are wondering what this horrible principal looks like, here's a concept design of her that I made using Create-a-Sim since I'm a terrible artist and I suck at drawing characters.
(Please feel free to deface her picture if this headcanon has made you feel inclined to do so. I just might go ahead and do the same after I finish typing this because I was feeling disgusted myself writing this bitch's character.)
Anyway, let me know what you all think about this headcanon. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions you wanna ask for me to answer and let me know your thoughts about this story.

Sadly and furiously, there's worse teachers than Bustier and Mendeleiv, and worse principals than Damoclès in real life
I've just read stories and testimonials from people about their years in primary and secondary school in France, And I've realized that, in fact, there are really so much worse cases than Miss Bustier, Mrs. Mendeliev, and Mr. Damocles as teachers and principals in real life :
Teachers and principals who aren't just enablers, but bullies themselves. Teachers who select one of their students as a scapegoat to vent all their frustrations, often punishing them unfairly, and ignoring or making fun of their difficulties, humiliating them in front of other students, etc. To the point that it also encouraged others students to bully the scapegoat student. One testimony particularly schoked me :
"I had a teacher who found all possible excuses to punish me, when we had presentations/assignements to make, the others in my class had 1 week to do it... I had to do it for the day after. She very often deprived me of recess, prevented me from going to the toilets, but above all, she couldn't see me so much that she very often sent me to the principal's class to do my punishments. She and the director were very good friends, and the director also had fun punishing me and saying mean things about me in front of her students. I was the student not to become. And this had quite a repercussion since the class of the director attacked me physically and also mentally during the lunch break (the only recess I had the right to because I had to eat), which , over the months, had rounded up all the other classes who came to harass me too (except my class, being aware that I did nothing wrong). And the harassment was even sometimes sexual and I confess that I do not understand how no supervisor could see what was happening."
it's terrifying how Miraculous actually only shows a fraction of school bullying and what a bad teacher is
Fortunately there are also testimonials on teachers who have helped students a lot.
A favorite youtuber of mine spoke of a teacher in a large kindergarten section who had traumatized her, and led her to withdraw into herself and never participate in class again. Then in CP, she had a teacher who was the exact opposite, fair, kind and attentive A teacher who helped her heal the wounds of the previous year. as kindergarten and primary shared the same canteen, the bad teacher and the good teacher already knew each other, and one day the youtuber witnessed a conversation between the two teachers of which she was the subject. The good teacher complimented her student and expressed her joy to have her in her class, while the bad teacher dared to ask "are you sure she is not mentally retarded?" about her former student, and she added that "according to science" students who are too well behaved hid a vice, and that one should not hesitate to often punish them, even if it means going as far as corporal punishment. The nice teacher replied that if she were to come across a teacher punishing his students this way, she would report them to the rectorate, slash their car tires, and set their house on fire. Then the good teacher asked to her colleague "I sure hope you're not that kind of teacher, right ?" Karma is rare in real life, but when it does its job, it's a jubilant moment ^^.
This story may be exaggerated, but I found it interesting to cite it
Myself I had an immense chance to have a schooling which took place without aplomb despite my autism thanks also to the presence of my twin sister (my parents always and rightly arranged for us to be in the same class) and I have always had relatively good teachers.
But reading and listening to this kind of testimonies really makes me realize that there are still a lot of bad teachers who do not just enable but also participate in the bullying of one or many students. Those kind of "adults" are the shame of teaching, people who shouldn't even have the right to teach nor approach children.
SPOILER WARNING ABOUT MIRACULOUS SEASON 5
That's why the episode Confrontation had me starting to despise Caline Bustier and Denis Damoclès a lot less, because it's better to have a teacher and principal regretting their past bullying enabling actions and misleading, and wanting to make up for it and become better, rather than teachers and principals who do enjoy abusing their students and never get caught
#miraculous ladybug#bullying and bad teaching#abusive teaching#school trauma and phobia#I hate teachers and students who abuse and torment others#fuck the bullies#whever they are students or teachers#comparison with real lives testimonies

Theres this giant bush up against my primary school yard that starting from lockdown onwards till a year ago always seemed to get caught on fire during the summer and honestly i think we should bring that back because that bush is still somehow standing (theres just a small chunk thats just charred sticks now lmao) and the school sucks and is/was abelist as fuck (still slightly pissed that they wrote i was Autistic on my file 3 years or more before i got diagnosed without telling anyone)
#still have trauma from the Halloween saftey videos they showed every year the day school let out for halloween break#they should NOT have been showing 8?–11 year olds pictures of charred and abused animal corpses#im afraid of fireworks now :(#i still remember having to be taken out during the last one because i felt sick and the teacher had the balls to blame the candy i ate#little me in my miraculous ladybug costume didnt deserve that#←from my drafts but i still think its relevant#wolffox speaks

Oleander
Summary: Nine months ago you killed a man. Now you're sharing a drink with his brother. Life works in mysterious ways. tw: female reader, implied murder, captivity, dub - con, hate fucking, degradation, cruel reader
Sometimes you wonder if you’re a good person. It’s nice, almost, to lose yourself in meaningless philosophical battles in your own mind - it reminds you of high school, of balding teachers making you read Kant and Plato, raving on and on about dead men that will never come back to agree or disagree with the countless pages they made you write about them. It’s easier now, though - easy to lose yourself in semantics, to water down hundred years of morals and ethics into a simple question. Am I, the way I am, the way I’ve always been, good?
These thoughts always come back when the liquor hits your system. You can’t believe Devan let you drink with him tonight. He must be getting lonely, you realize. Your hands are too shaky and slippery to hold the glass, and you end up spilling half of it over your chest anyways. Your shirt soaks the liquor quickly, and the sharp smell of sanitizer makes you feel as if you’re running through a cold hospital corridor. If you squint, you can almost imagine the needle poking at your vein to draw fresh blood.
Devan watches you with odd fascination - as if you’re a child learning how to walk, and takes a sip straight off the bottle. Were you any less drunk, you’d be disgusted, yet now all you think about is how he’s drinking more and more of the bitter medicine, leaving less for you. And you need it. God knows you need it.
“Messy, murderous slut.” He mumbles under his breath, reaching out to you with a disoriented shake of his hand. “You ruined my fucking life, you know?” He manages to take a hold of your elbow. You flinch impulsively but his hold, in all its drunken angst, is unrelenting.
“You ruined your own life.” You intend your answer to be playful, but it comes out venomous. Maybe you both need some sleep - too bad the bottle is still half full. You pour yourself some more. “You’re 27 with no education, job or any support network. Even your parents don’t call you anymore, because, well… what even are you without him?” You let yourself get closer to the man - so close you can see his eyes illuminate in fear. His skin is warm like concrete melting under the sun. Tonight you are cruel. Tonight you are free - even as the tears fall down your freezing cheeks. “Admit it.” You inhale so quietly you barely feel your lungs. “You fucking love it.”
Even as his hand connects to your cheek in an audible slap, you can’t help running your mouth off. You are absolutely intoxicated - and the sting feels like a kiss to your lonely, untouched face. How long has it been since someone held you?
“You fucking love that your brother died, deep down. I mean, it’s the perfect excuse, isn’t it? You finally have a reason to be this fucking miserable.” Your smirk, filling up with glee - just like a child torturing a helpless ladybug on the ground, it’s so wrong yet feels so right. ”Besides being a lousy loser, of course.”
“How fucking dare you!” Devin flips you over with ease, throwing you on the ground. There is a raw, animalistic sadness in his big black orbs bleeding into his rage, and it makes it impossible to be scared. Even as his thick fist wraps itself around your throat, it’s hard not to burst into laughter. All the good hazy feelings take over logic and now the bleak feels like a big joke of nature. “Joe was… He… He was…” Everything, he tries to say, but his voice breaks into a pained howl and his breathing shallows before the word can roll off his colorless tongue. For a passing moment everything stills.
“It’s all your fault.” Your captor hisses weakly, his hand trembling around your warm inviting flesh. “I should have killed you that first day… that first night.” His fingers dance around your throat, carefully avoiding your jugular. “It would have been so easy. You do have a beautiful neck.” His voice lowers. “It wouldn’t be hard to–” He squeezes again - tight, tighter, and you see stars. “Maybe then I’ll finally be at peace.” He’s staring at you, intently, but it’s himself he’s talking to.
“Oh, please.” You roll your eyes. You can feel a certain fullness in your sides and a dull pain tugging at your collarbone from suffocation - but your mind can’t wrap itself around a single coherent thought other than to hurt him. It’s like the more you hurt him, the more it hurts inside you. “You can’t kill me.” There is no sass in your tone, no mischief - just plain cold acceptance.
Devin stops in his tracks to stare you down as if you’ve lost your goddamn mind. Then he laughs. He laughs so much his hand slips off your throat and you can finally breathe again.
“And what makes you so sure?” He finally collects himself enough to ask, leaning towards you. If anyone were to see you now, they would think you’re two lovers about to elope. “Because…” You avert your face away from his watchful eyes - there’s something about them, a wild flame that makes you sober up quicker than you’d like. “I’m the only person you hate more than yourself. If you kill me, the game is over.” You give him a sad smile. “And you’re all alone again.”
The man grabs your chin, forcing your lips to pucker up like a doll’s. “Like I need a fucked up bitch to keep me company.” He says, yet he keeps moving your head up and down as if he’s inspecting you for damage. As if he cares if you’re bruised, as if his fingers want to feel you for just a second longer. “Then let me go.” You bite back, and you watch his face go dark like a night sky. “No.” The boy - man shrieks, holding onto your arm for dear life. It hurts… but it’s also warm and tight - like an embrace, but not quite. “You deserve to suffer.” He quickly adds, pulling you closer to him. “Then torture me.” You add more fuel. “Do something. Anything.” You sink your teeth into his knees. “For once in your shitty miserable life do so–”
He kisses you.
You don’t know how to describe the kiss. It’s neither passionate, nor aggressive. It’s desperate, yet it lacks strength. It’s a rushed thing. It’s a memory reminiscent of summer - in a quiet village, after an atom bomb. His lips are the flowers that eventually bloom before they’re stomped by soldier boots. You’re the half - lit match that turns it all to ashes. Your bodies are meant for destruction, and that’s why they fit together perfectly.
“Let me have you.” He almost pleads once you separate, breathless, on the brink of insanity - as if he isn’t already there. His hands are on both sides of your waist, squeezing so hard it hurts, unstable fingers ready to grab and grope at any shape malleable enough.
“No.” You wince, but your eyes remain cold and challenging. “Fuck you.” Devin replies, roughly spreading your thighs apart. “Fuck you.” He repeats as he rips into your throat, dragging his teeth against your sweet spot, making you really feel the sharp points tearing into your soft vulnerable skin. The thought of leaving his mark on you makes his stomach turn - and it terrifies him. You try not to look down, but you hear his belt hit the ground and soon his pants follow suit - and then you sense it right against your entrance. Sticky slick whiteness coats your white panties as it drips from the purpling tip so full it might burst by the friction alone.
His hard length rubs along your wet slit and with clenched teeth you anticipate the burn of the stretch, the way he’ll rip your underwear from you, your last protective shield - but it never comes. Yet you see it move in and out, in and out of you rhythmically. You can feel his warm breath on the back of your neck, his rasp groans into your ear, his hands moving your torso back and forth like a carousel. You finally look down.
He’s fucking your thighs - through your panties, no less.
“Hold your legs together.” The man barks at you, but his voice is so needy you can’t help giggling even as he manhandles you around like a ragdoll. “T-tighter.” You squeeze your thighs snuggly against his cock - and you hope it hurts him more than it hurts you. You throw your head back, leaning on his shoulder as you jeer gutturally, letting it all out in systematic bursts of laughter that sound more like black cigarette coughs. Or puffs. “God, you’re so pathetic.” You lazily stroke his shaft as it peeks down your stomach, oozing with pre - cum. “I bet your brother would have fucked me like a real man.”
He moves your head to the side with a brute slap, kissing you sloppily anywhere but your mouth - but it still does the trick of shutting you up. “Too bad he’s dead.” He leaves a trail of wet pecks down your throat. Your stomach is sticky. You feel disgusting. “Guess you’re mine now.”
You roll your eyes.
“Dream on.”

seeing a lot of talk of the season 5 finale, which is fun, i get that it was controversial (honestly the fact it was really risky is kind of one of the things i like about it lol) and wanting to add my two cents but can't think of much i haven't already said before
but something i do want to emphasize is that season 5 ending on Marinette telling the biggest, boldest faced lie she's ever told (that goes far beyond "protecting her identity") to kick off the Lila arc is by far the coolest thing they could've done imo, because I was not at all excited for the Lila arc before but now I'm totally invested. Now Lila isn't the Evil Liar to be taken down by Good Marinette. Marinette is the liar to be taken down by the very liar that she took down. It's not a story of "defeat that freakishly evil girl" anymore, but instead a story of "Marinette's own actions and decisions coming back to bite her". And the lie itself (WHICH LILA KNOWS IS A LIE!!) only exists because, and is most impactful towards, her relationship with Adrien, which is the core of the series!! I CARE about their relationship, and that's the stakes!!!
I just cannot get over how cool that is, and how much I didn't expect it. I know we all were expecting a big fight with Ladybug and Chat Noir just defeating Gabriel and then watching Chat Noir cry or whatever in the few remaining minutes of screen-time and then it's all over and done with, but that's a series finale. This was a season finale. And they did something really unique and unexpected with it, while making sure it's a juicy season-finale conflict that leaves me actually excited about season 6
also, a side note— I think the framing of the finale made this confusing so I totally get why discussions about it are kind of all over the place, but... 90% of the post-wish stuff we saw had nothing to do with Gabriel at all. It was all Mayor Bustier, who was already running for mayor and wanted to enact green laws and projected to win (she was up against D'Argencourt, the character whose schtick is that nobody ever votes for him in elections). I don't think Gabriel's wish included "Please, Gimmi, I want my son's school teacher to win the mayoral election this year" lol. So a lot of talk of "why is Gabriel's World presented in such a positive light?" is kind of weird to me. That's not Gabriel's World. That's Caline Bustier's. All we know so far about Gabriel's World is that Nathalie is in it and he is not. And frankly, the fact everyone is so happy and cheerful and living it up after his death is more a roast than anything
( also, just a reminder that the presentation of Gabriel's statue— the only scene discussing Gabriel in a positive light by someone In The Know— was done by Tomoe Tsurugi, a series antagonist, vowing to continue his work, with a song in minor key playing in the background. i feel like the question of "was this meant to be unsettling or triumphant?" is pretty obvious. just wanted to remind everyone. also by definition characters cannot celebrate gabriel as a "hero" without in the same breath celebrating monarch's, aka gabriel's, death. yknow? )
#ml s5 spoilers#re-creation spoilers#ml re-creation#recreation spoilers#ml recreation#as w all my posts this really isnt meant to be an invitation for you to tell me what you didnt like about it#i do GET IT because i think this finale was very risky and intentionally controversial so im not surprised/dont blame you if you hate it bu#i've heard a lot of arguments against it and tbh none have been able to change the fact that I actually like it a lot so#idk would probably be more productive to make your own post about it haha#also side note: WOOOOOOO THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN CONFIRMED TO BE AMELIE WOOOO#me hearing that it was confirmed like ''why am I gasping? i already knew that''

summer of strawberries
Week 1 of Jinxed July is here! I promised my loves @finalgirllx & @thatdammchickennugget that I would participate in at least one week so here we are. I used the strawberry picking and heatwave prompts for a little sunshine x grumpy headcanon action with Theo. Banner from @cafekitsune!
Warnings: GN!Reader, mentions of smoking, grumpy!Theo, sunshine!reader, sickly sweet.
Word Count: 504 (Probably the shortest thing you'll get from me.)
Boyfriend!Theo who hates the heat. He hates the summer. He hates bugs.
Boyfriend!Theo who would rather sit under the AC of his childhood manor than do ANYTHING that requires him to move in the summer heat.
Boyfriend!Theo who has a partner who loves summer and the activities that come with it.
Boyfriend!Theo whose partner always wanted to go out and explore, host a pool party, or just be outside.
Boyfriend!Theo who was beyond annoyed when they were given a summer project to write about a fun outdoor activity they did over the summer.
Boyfriend!Theo who thought “Why does it matter to the teachers if he went outside or not?”
Boyfriend!Theo whose annoyance faded away a little bit once you said that you would do the activity with him.
Boyfriend!Theo whose only intention for the summer was to take you to his manor and hold you hostage in his bed.
“Strawberry picking!” You exclaimed, bouncing on Theo’s large bed excitedly.
Boyfriend!Theo who stared at you like you had grown two heads as he blew out smoke from his cigarette. “It’s hot.” He deadpanned.
“They’re ripe!” Your rebuttal, “And it’s the perfect thing for the project!”
Boyfriend!Theo rolled his eyes but got up to go to the strawberry field with you. He would do anything you said despite his distaste for the project and the heat.
Boyfriend!Theo whose love for you is strong but his hate for the sweltering heat wave is equally as strong.
Boyfriend!Theo who walked hand-in-hand with you, listening to you ramble on about every fact that you knew about strawberries. That was how your relationship worked, you were the yapper and he was the listener.
Boyfriend!Theo who watched you run to the field of strawberries, your smile brighter than the sun as you picked the biggest and juiciest ones.
Boyfriend!Theo who had a deep scowl on his face as he sweated through his white t-shirt. The material was basically sticking to his chest like a second layer of skin.
Boyfriend!Theo who also smiled sweetly at you whenever you showed him a bigger strawberry or a ladybug.
Boyfriend!Theo who risked sunburn to come and help you untangle a squirrel from the bushes.
Boyfriend!Theo who definitely got sunburnt.
Boyfriend!Theo who gave you a piggyback ride all the way back to the manor, despite usually hating being touched in this type of heat.
Boyfriend!Theo who washed all your strawberries for you and made you different Italian desserts out of them.
Boyfriend!Theo who smiled softly as he watched your eyes gleam with happiness every time you bit into one of the strawberries or the desserts.
Boyfriend!Theo who loves you so much that he didn’t care about the raised eyebrows when the other boys saw his sunburnt skin when they came to visit.
Boyfriend!Theo who got the highest marks on his summer project when they came back to school.
Boyfriend!Theo who made Professor McGonagall dab tears from her eyes from reading his report because she could tell how much he loved you through the words he wrote.

I also think the recent ep where Mari is scolded for not improving Chloe's behavior as a class rep, is not fair. A class rep is there to be the voice for the students and act as a form of communication, not mentor or educate another child. Mari also became class rep to stop Chloe's bullying, not reform her or give her therapy. I can't believe they (the class) actually gave the class rep position to Lila, even Marinette has done so much for them, and little Miss Liar is only full of hot air. Side eye
The Class Rep thing in "Revelation" was so dumb in all aspects, like, FIRST of all-
Lila cannot seriously be bringing up that it's "undiplomatic" that they held elections without her when she wasn't even going to Francois Dupont yet, are you trying to look me in the face and tell me "Volpina" happened before FREAKING "Darkblade"?! (And obviously no one brings up this fact when she's talking nonsense)
WHY is Bustier even entertaining this garbage when there's two weeks of school left?! Like, sorry Lila, try again in high school if you can even get in with your attendance record. The only things left for the Class Rep to even do is the Student -Teacher Career Course planning which sounds super important and like a really dumb thing to suddenly hand over to two people who haven't been preparing for it in the slightest!
Marinette is running on the "Actually this is pointless, I've done great as a class president because it's actually not my job to change Chloe for the better, especially when Bustier, her parents, and Ladybug herself couldn't get her to pull her head out of her ass, so I'm going to spend my time on things that actually matter and will have results" and legit why does anyone care about "improving Chloe" when in TWO WEEKS they will be at TOTALLY DIFFERENT SCHOOLS and hopefully NEVER have to see her in person again?! Though realistically she should be running on the "we have two weeks left why are we even here" campaign.
And Lila is running on the "Chloe can change if someone just worked with her instead of spending all their time on their own romance like a selfish jerk" platform and the class eats this up just because Chloe is "willing" to be Lila's deputy. Except Lila has been hanging out with and being friends with Chloe since freaking "Penalteam"! And guess who's still an asshole despite your "influence" Lila?! OH RIGHT, YOUR NEW DEPUTY! Hell, "Adoration" JUST happened 3 episodes ago where Chloe was framing Marinette for theft! Your "influence" isn't worth SHIT to anyone paying attention!
Now, Lila's only going for the President role so she can fuck everyone over in "Confrontation", so obviously this stupid campaign was going to happen and Lila was going to win just to set up the Big Bang where Lila exposes herself. Who cares that it stretches suspension of belief past it's limits, that's just the Gold Standard when it comes to Lila schemes.
Anyway, can't wait for her grand plans as The Villain of the next arc. -_-

Two weeks ago, I went back to my late grandmother's hometown to visit her tombstone. My grandma used to love going to school, but had to drop out early because of her poor health. However, her mother (my great-grandmother), a few of her sisters, as well as my own mom, were all teachers. That explains why I did a retro uniform back-to-school look, even though I graduated from secondary school over 18 years ago.
I have added a picture of my grandmother sitting in almost the same spot as me on my Instagram post. Back in her days, it was still a train station, but now, it's a boutique and meeting point for cyclists (sadly, a lot of trains stopped running in this country for the sake of a car lifestyle, but that's a rant for another day).

Pairing Introductions 🪻 JJ x Deer!Reader
The first pairing I'd like to introduce is JJ and Deer! A very unlikely couple to most outsides because of how opposite they are, but as the saying goes, opposites attract!
JJ and Deer met sometime in middle. JJ, as he is now, was a badass kid, constantly joking and messing around with the other students. This made him a major distraction for the rest of the class. Eventually, his teacher got fed up with him and moved him all the way to the back of the class, right next to deer reader...
Deer reader was very quiet, never talking much with other students. She spent her free time in class reading nonfiction science books or collecting ladybugs and making a habitat for them in her plastic water bottles. In some odd way, she balanced JJ out. He was hyper, very talkative, and very easily distracted, all things Deer Reader wasn't.
As time went on Deer Reader found herself apart of the pouges, something outsiders definitely didn't understand. A rough group of troublemakers and Deer just didn't sound right, but Deer!reader was apart of the group all the same.
When the pouges weren't off doing something absolutely insane, Deer and JJ spent a lot of time together at her house. Her room covered in shadowboxes with bugs, random taxidermies, animal bones (she always put an emphasis on how they were ethically sourced, and crystals. JJ would spend hours listening to Deer talk about strange science facts, he'd watch documentaries with her, he even let her read to him (which was hard sometimes for his adhd riddled self).
Deer was only ever really social with JJ, especially one they became close, sure Deer talks with plenty of people, but it's never anything more than basic manners. To a lot of people that makes her seem strange and impersonal, but that's something JJ likes about her, he likes to keep his cards close to his chest too.
Even when she started to get closer with the rest of the pouges, she still spoke mostly to JJ. For some odd reason, a reason no one could understand, JJ and Deer connected with each other in ways they couldn't really connect with others. Of course as more time went by Deer was pretty social the other pouges but it was still obvious to everyone that she favored JJ.
I don't imagine JJ and Deer ever officially had a moment where they became a couple, in a way they just sort of always were. Even all the way back in middle school, JJ would chase away any guy that even seemed mildly interested in her, from the moment the teacher sat him next to Deer, she became his, and she never minded.
As they got older more lines blurred, when JJ would come over, he'd crowd Deer!reader against her bed and kiss up and down her face and body like a hungry dog. Eventually Deer had enough of his games so she just sorta claimed JJ as her boyfriend, something he was very eager to agree too <3

soulmate au wherein you start to see color as soon as you make eye contact with your soulmate, but lose the ability when they die
which is why gabriel is adamant emilie is still alive and savable because if she were really dead his vision would have reverted back to grayscale and he can still tell the difference between orchid and amethyst at a glance, thank you very much
fast forward to hawkmoth’s defeat at the hands of the heroes and ladybug’s confirmation that there’s nothing they can do for emilie and that she is, in fact, dead. but that doesn’t make sense because gabriel can still see colors - can still see the blue sky the morning of her funeral, and the pink dress he’d chosen for her to be buried in, and the green grass as her casket descends into the ground
life goes on and the color never fades -
not like those few times it had when he still wore the miraculous
those had been some of the worst nights of his life. when the color of his son’s hair had lost its golden hue and his assistant’s bright blue eyes looked grey (the fact those nights always coincided with nathalie’s weakest never crossed his mind, nor did the way everything around him seemed brighter whenever she took a deep, fortifying breath)
- and then one day adrien asks nathalie if she can see color, why isn’t she with her soulmate?
“i don’t know who they are.”
“how can you not know?!”
“there were a lot of people around when it happened.” she shrugs and then, at adrien’s incredulous expression, elaborates, “i was on a school trip to the musée d’orsay. one second everything was in black and white, and the next i could see color. it happened so fast i don’t even know if he realized it was me he was looking at. and by the time i’d gotten over my shock the teachers were herding us onto the next activity.”
“do you remember anything about him?”
“the details are fuzzy now, but he was older than me by a few years. and he was very tall.” she pauses, thinking. “and his hair was cut short, but dyed bright red.”
adrien’s eyes narrow. “is that why you have a red streak in your hair?”
nathalie smiles and tilts her head. “you know, adrien, i never really thought about it like that. but maybe.”
“how long ago was this?”
adrien and nathalie both turn at the sound of gabriel’s sudden question, completely unaware of how intently he’d been listening to their conversation since the mentioning of the station
“i’d just turned fourteen.”
gabriel calculates the timing in his head, frown deepening as nathalie and adrien turn to a different topic
a few days later an increasingly agitated gabriel bites the bullet and calls amélie, who reluctantly admits that, no, gabriel was not actually emilie’s soulmate and that, apparently, she had known her soulmate for years before she’d met him but couldn’t stand the boy and had jumped at the chance to be gabriel’s soulmate when he’d mistaken her for his
furious, he slams down the phone and goes to find the old photo albums stashed in the back of his closet
and there, on the second page of a scrapbook emilie had made him for their six-month anniversary, in the background of the very first selfie he’d taken with emilie was a gangly, pale girl with a heart-shaped face and familiar bright blue eyes
gabriel’s heart stutters to a stop, eyes flicking from the bright red buzz cut he’d very briefly sported to emilie’s radiant smile and back to the teenage version of nathalie
nathalie
his soulmate
#gabenath#soulmates au#sorry if this is awful but i just needed to send it off into the universe so i’d stop thinking about it

I wanted to redesing and rewrite Miraculous for a while. Then thought why not share my ideas so here is Chloé Bourgeois. (Duddeee I forgor the wingss?? 💀)
In my rewriting, power system is different. I will explain it on my further posts. Here I want to tell you more about my version of Chloé aka Queen Bee.
Chloé’s character is similar to show version. (First two seasons) Mommy issues, struggling with social relationships, bully… The difference is I keep the redemption arc :D In my version Ladybug and Chat Noir get their miraculouses when they were in high school. But show will take place at their twenties when they are in university. We will have flashbacks about high school years and how they got their miraculouses. Chloé also gets her miraculous in high school but it will be taken from her by Ladybug. This events will be similar to show too. Chloé won’t reveal her identity to everyone but will do wrong things to fix and seem like a hero. Her plan was to impress her mother as Queen Bee so later she can reveal her identity to her and make her mother proud of her for once :’) (Damn you Audrey)
Her only friend was Adrian for her whole childhood (same goes for Adrian) thanks to Audrey’s business with Gabriel. I thought her whole feelings towards Adrian is platonic but in her high school times she thought she has romantic feelings towards him because she never had friends other than Adrian and never had romantic interest. That’s why she will be clingy towards Adrian in high school.
In last year of high school after Ladybug took Bee miraculous from her, Marinette will try to fix her relationship with Audrey like in the show but it won’t work and Audrey probably say some really heartbreaking things and this will make Chloé angrier. She will blame Marinette and will be ruder to everyone (espacially to Marinette) at school, Sabrina will dump her (yaaay), Ladybug won’t trust her about an akuma attack (there are no akuma in my story tho but i want you to know what i am referring to rn) and Adrian will talk with her about her actions and how he doesn’t want to keep being friends with her anymore if she continues. She will get akumatized too and hurt her teacher (forgor her name) and Sabrina. She will collapse and leave Paris. I am not sure where she will go, probably i will make her go another country at Europe.
She will change her contacts so Adrian won’t be able to reach her. She will go therapy there and will be emotionally better. I feel like she would study child psychology maybe become a teacher or something. I also thought she will take self defense classes too since Ladybug told that she doesn’t have enough experience on fighting and they ve been getting educated for years to hold a miraculous, when she took bee miraculous from her. ( thats a lie tho it has only been a few months not years lmao)
After 2 or 3 years she will return to Paris (when show takes time at)for a few days just to see her father and apologize to Sabrina, Adrian and Marinette. I thought Sabrina won’t even wanna listen her. So she will decide not to see Adrian because she will think he doesn’t want to see her either. Then she will find herself in the middle of akuma attack. She will see where the akumatized item is. Ladybug and Chatnoir will be surprised to see her there of course but they are in the middle of fight. Chloé will try to tell where the akuma is but Ladybug will immediately tell Chatnoir to take her somewhere safe and he will. Chloé will tell Chatnoir that she knows how to defeat the akuma and she is sorry for being a bad holder back than. Adrian is so confused seeing her friend after years of course but can’t say anything (you know ,secret identity 🤷). Akuma will be defeated and he will go to Chloé to thank.
So then she will go to bakery hoping Marinette will be there in university break and hoping at least Marinette would like to listen her like back then. And as she hoped, Marinette wants to listen her. I might make a comic with this scene later. Right now I don’t have the words to describe the dialogue in here. But it will be about how she came to apologize and she is now a different person but how she doesn’t expect to be forgiven since Sabrina didn’t. And I thought Marinette would hug her seeing how in the edge she is and she might cry :’’(
I know I know it is so plane but i am not good at writing. I just tell what my ideas are. It is not the end. I will write about what happens later but first I should make posts about other holders and power system. Powers are different in my version so story might be confusing without knowing them. Bee miraculous also has slightly a different power. So first I will tell about them. Then I might try harder and write the story better hehe.
About Zoe btw I don’t even know if I want her to exit lmaoo. No hate don’t get me wrong but she is not even a character in the show. I am not sure what to do about her yet.
Thank you for reading, I appreciate that. 🪐🌟
=====Turkish translate======
( Yalan tabii.
Onu hikayeye ekler miyim emin bile değilim. Açıkçası dizide hiç bir kişiliği olmayan bom boş bir karakter. O yüzden emin değilim.
Okuduğun için teşekkür ederim. 🪐🌟

IOTA Reviews: Derision
Well, here we are. This is the episode you've all been waiting for me to cover. The one people claim is the cream of the crop when it comes to badness, not just for the insane amount of retcons and cases of character assassination, but for how it retroactively makes one of the most criticized parts of the entire show worse by comparison. If you've seen the episode, you know what I'm talking about.
Let's get into the fourteenth episode of Miraculous Ladybug's fifth season: Derision
We start off with Marinette waking up for the day before getting a call from Adrien, who gives one of the clunkiest pieces of exposition I've ever heard on this show, and that's saying something.
Adrien: I was just going to tell you how excited I am that we're meeting at the swimming pool later, and to wake you up just in case you were still sleeping.
youtube
Just as she hangs up, Marinette's hands start to tremble, having visions of a locker, hinting at some old memories resurfacing. Just to get this out of the way, but one thing I want to give this episode props for is the way these panic attacks are portrayed. The colors change, the environments warp around, and it gives off a very uneasy feeling. It kind of reminds me of this one episode of The Twilight Zone, “Little Girl Lost”, which used similar visuals to depict the otherworldly atmosphere of another dimension.
Marinette meets up with Adrien at the local pool, and has another panic attack. Kim and Ondine seem to notice this.
Kim: Woah, Adrien. That must've been some prank you pulled to make Marinette freak out like that. What did you do to her?
Ondine: It's not funny, Kim! Can't you see Marinette's not okay?
Kim: Oh, come on. She always reacts like that when someone pranks her.
Kim then proceeds to tell Adrien and Ondine (and by extension, the audience) about what he means. I'm going to talk a lot about this, so to make things easier for all of us, I'll give you the short version so you have an idea of what happened.
About a year before the events of “Origins”, we see Chloe was bullying Marinette even more than she did before then, constantly pulling sadistic pranks Megan from Drake & Josh would find to be overkill, while making her late to class. To make things worse, none of her teachers believed her and took Chloe's side all the time, giving her detention on the weekends. Mylene, Rose, and Juleka try to help Marinette, but apparently, Chloe orders them to not talk with her before saying that “she'll be there to make Marinette's life a nightmare”.
The only person with the common sense to help out Marinette is Socqueline, that girl from “Jubiliation”. Socqueline learns that Marinette has a crush on Kim, who is even more of a jerk than he was during the first half of Season 1, and when Marinette thinks about asking him out to the swimming pool after school, Socqueline advises Marinette to be careful. Sabrina tips off Chloe to Marinette's plan, so Chloe goes to give Kim advice to pull a prank on Marinette. At the pool, just as Marinette confesses her feelings to Kim, Kim gives her a box full of spiders, causing her to panic and fall backwards into the pool. Chloe films the thing with the intent to make it go viral, but Socqueline stops her plan before she can upload it. Kim doesn't seem to see what he did was wrong, seeing it as a harmless joke as Socqueline tells him to piss off.
It's here that Marinette determines that if she ever has feelings for a boy ever again, she'll need to be super prepared, explaining how much she knows about Adrien and his schedule in later episodes. Chloe then gets Socqueline expelled from school just a few weeks before the end of the school year. Marinette blames herself for what happened, but Socqueline tells her that sometimes, no matter how dire the odds seem, she needs to muster up the courage to fight the good fight.
Oh, and Marinette was almost akumatized by Monarch again, but it's really just an excuse to keep her away while Kim tells the story.
So... let's talk about this flashback. Clocking in at about ten minutes, almost half of the episode's runtime, this is easily the part everyone (myself included) seems to have problems with, for all kinds of reasons. Let's break down each and everything wrong with this flashback.
#1: The Portrayal of Chloe
Surprisingly, this is the least of my problems. Compared to Kim (who I'll get to later), Chloe is mostly in character with how she's usually portrayed by this point in the series. She's egotistical, she orders Sabrina around, she hates Marinette, and throws her father's name around over and over again like it's a boomerang. My feelings on the wasted opportunities with her character aside, this does make sense seeing how this takes place before Season 1.
But there's the problem. This takes place before Season 1, and Chloe does things she never did in Season 1, or any of the other seasons for that matter. She clearly has the teachers and principal doing what she wants, she can boss the other students around (which I'll also get to later), she pulls sadistic practical jokes on Marinette, and even uses her dad's name to get Socqueline expelled. In the show, she doesn't really do any of this. Sure, she can occasionally use her dad's influence to get what she wants (Lady Wifi, Rogercop, Frightningale, Determination), but it was never to this extent. While she also tried to act like she was better than the rest of her peers, barring Sabrina, nobody ever listened to her or took her seriously. Chloe also tended to focus on bullying Marinette, but she didn't do these kinds of practical jokes. Usually, it was either sabotage (Mr. Pigeon, Despair Bear, Gabriel Agreste) or just general name calling, and she picked on other students too (Dark Cupid, Reflekta, Antibug, Sole Crusher, Penalteam, Deflagration).
The point I'm trying to make is why the hell did Chloe stop acting this way? What caused her to stop being as bad as she is here? I get the whole point of this episode is to show how terrible Chloe is, but you're showing off all her bad moments in a flashback and never considering the other things she's done that would be just as effective. Wasn't the main idea behind Chloe's “damnation arc” that she started to change, but went back on her ways and became worse than before? If that's the case, I have to reiterate, why was she even worse in this flashback?
I also have an issue with making the cause of all of Marinette's trauma because of this prank by Chloe. Yes, the prank was terrible, and trust me this isn't me once again going “GRR! CHLOE STAN ANGRY BECAUSE RICH GIRL IS EVIL IN FLASHBACK!”. It's more along the lines of “Really? We're really doing this?”. While I'm glad that after Chloe's betrayal at the end of Season 3, the show is finally considering the idea of making her more than just comic relief as a villain, it feels like a case of too little, too late.
After so many years of making Chloe out to be harmless unless she screams her daddy's name, now you're treating her like a serious threat who traumatized Marinette for life? Chloe is the cause of Marinette's trauma? This is like if the person who killed Bruce Wayne's parents turned out to be a joke character like Egghead or Crazy Quilt. Just because a serious villain does something important to the story, it doesn't automatically make their prior unfunny antics go away.
But my main gripe with the portrayal of Chloe here is that this flashback fails to do something that still hasn't been done in almost five seasons and eight years: Explain just why Chloe hates Marinette so much. Chloe is unusually cruel here, and doesn't even have a reason to torture Marinette like this. Usually, Marinette gets in the way of what she wants, but here? Marinette doesn't do anything to warrant this level of dedication. You would think for a flashback sequence focusing on her and Marinette's history, they would actually explain why Chloe likes to single out Marinette, but they don't. The writers would rather take time out of the episode to remind the audience of why Chloe is the way she is, and why it isn't acceptable, than clarify what Chloe's deal with Marinette is.
Rose: She’s this way because her mother left her when she was young.
Mylene: So did mine, and you don't see me having fun bullying Marinette.
Gee, I wonder if Astruc himself had a part in writing that exchange or not.
If you're willing to acknowledge previous episodes while also discussing how poorly Chloe treats Marinette, it would help if you finally did something to inform the audience about why Chloe likes to torture Marinette in the first place. Did Marinette show Chloe up at a fashion show? Did Marinette impress Chloe's dad one time? Did Marinette just spill coffee on Chloe's shoes? I will take literally anything, no matter how stupid the explanation is, over getting nothing after eight years.
It's also pretty rich that that scene was trying to say that what happened to Chloe doesn't justify her actions when not only do we never get a scene like that pointing out how creepy Marinette obsesing over Adrien was, but later in the episode, Marinette specifically pins all the blame on Chloe in one line.
Marinette: Adrien! I know what's wrong with me! It's not my fault, and it's not your fault, either! It's all Chloe's fault!
So remember kids, just because bad things happen to you, it doesn't excuse your unflattering actions... except when it does, and in that case, it's all the fault of the person who wronged you in the first place.
#2: The Portrayal of Kim
I'll admit, I'm not really the biggest fan of Kim as a character. I don't hate him, but it feels like after Season 2, he just became that guy who really loves to swim, where even characters like Max, Marc, and Nathaniel had more depth to them. This episode however? Yeah, I couldn't stand Kim here.
Just like with Chloe, Kim is sort of in character as the same eccentric dude who has a habit of being insensitive and accidentally upsetting people (Animan, Syren), and I need to emphasize the “sort of”. Just like Chloe, this goes against his characterization in Season 1, where he was shown to be a bully like Chloe was (Lady Wifi, Timetagger, Origins) before later episodes made him a nicer person. However, unlike Chloe, the show sort of tries to retcon Kim's rude behavior to be more in line with his Season 5 self by portraying him as more of a bully who simply isn't aware of how harmful his jokes are, but it doesn't work because of how cruel he seems, and he doesn't have the excuse of knowing how terrible he is like Chloe does.
There's also how easily he goes along with Chloe's prank when she literally insults him and Marinette to his face.
Chloe: I heard Marinette asked you to go with her to the swimming pool.
Kim: Yeah, we’re going swimming together. Cool! 'Cause I love to swim!
Chloe: That’s not why she asked you, dummy!
Kim: It's not? Then, what are we going to do? Chloe: She wants to declare her feelings for you! Kim: For me? But why?
Chloe: Probably because she's utterly ridiculous, and so are you, which makes you two perfect for each other!
Kim: Oh? You think so?
There's not being aware of how insensitive of how you are to others, and then there's not being able to comprehend basic insults. Chloe doesn't even try to give Kim a backhanded compliment or secretly insult him (“You really like swimming, don't you? Good thing you can swim better than you do in class.”). She just calls him a dummy, and Kim still falls for her trick. If you want to have Kim fall for Chloe's plan, don't make her so obviously cruel. For God's sake, you're making the class in the Lila episodes look smart by comparison.
And even after retelling the story, Kim still thinks Chloe highly, not only saying how pretty she is right in front of his girlfriend, but he still thinks the joke was the funniest thing ever. After five seasons, Kim of all people should know about how mean Chloe is, given he was literally kidnapped and brainwashed into serving her while she sided with Hawkmoth (Miracle Queen).
The worst part is that Kim has nothing to do with this story at all. You could literally replace him with any other guy, even a nameless background character with no lines, and nothing would change. Hell, I'd argue it'd be even better as having Marinette be embarrassed in front of some rando would highlight the impact it had on her self-esteem when she tries to go after someone of a higher social class. It would also better justify the spider prank if someone else pulled it because “Darkblade” established that Kim was afraid of spiders.
And if you think I'm talking about Kim after this part, believe me, there's more to this schmuck than meets the eye.
#3: The Way Everyone Just... Lets This All Happen
Look, I get what the episode is trying to go for, narratively, and realistically. Sometimes, teachers and other authority figures just don't do their jobs when someone gets bullied. Hell, I was bullied for years by someone who liked to take advantage of my anger issues, and it wasn't until my last year of middle school that the faculty finally decided to do something about it. I also get that this entire flashback wouldn't happen if the teachers realized how cruel Chloe was and got her expelled. What I don't get is how the flashback portrays anyone who was there as unwilling to do anything to help.
First off, Marinette claims that the reason none of the teachers believed her was because they're all too afraid to stand up to Chloe, since she can call her dad and cost them their jobs, but that's far from the truth. The only time we see anyone actually being afraid of Chloe was when Mr. Damocles went back on refusing to expel Socqueline before Chloe threatened to call her dad and get him fired. Other than that, while we only see Ms. Mendeleiev and Mr. Damocles in this flashback, neither of them really show any signs of being afraid of Chloe. They just go along with what she says, and they don't even try to take Marinette's side. Just like Kim, this would be more understandable if these were different characters who were never shown to be this cruel to Marinette in earlier episodes.
Second, while I can sort of buy the teachers not caring about Marinette, the fact that her classmates don't do anything is another story. We saw Mylene, Rose, and Juleka trying to help Marinette, but right after they talk to her, Chloe just orders them to go away, and it's never explained why. Marinette said the teachers were afraid of Chloe, but does that mean the students are too? Again, later episodes would establish nobody takes Chloe seriously as a bully, so this part of the flashback makes no sense. What changed to make them stop being afraid of Chloe anyway? Once again, if these were a bunch of nameless characters who were more apathetic to Marinette's situation, that would make sense, retroactively showing how much Marinette's friends care for her. Instead, it's like that scene in RWBY where the main characters watch a student being bullied by a racist classmate, and all they do is say “Wow, racism really sucks, huh? Anyway, not our problem.”
Third, you're telling me that Marinette came up with multiple excuses not to go to school even with a few weeks left in the year, and Marinette's parents didn't see anything weird about it? They didn't think that something must be making Marinette want to do anything but go to school? I don't think they were even informed about the situation at school, unless you want to be generous and say they knew Marinette got detention. You can't even make the excuse that it would work if these were different characters, but these are Marinette's parents. You know, the same characters the show portrays as loving and affectionate to their daughter? You're telling me they didn't even think to look into the situation, much less talk to Marinette about school?
The problem with all the other characters in this flashback is in order to make what happens possible, they have to be as apathetic as possible. There's being unaware of a situation or being too afraid to stand up (which is unfortunately something that happens when people bullied sometimes), and then there's just not caring about the bully victim at all. It's ironic how even though a big part of the flashback was to show how awful Chloe was, it unintentionally make everyone else in Marinette's life seem just as cruel to let her suffer like that.
But I know what you're thinking. “What about Socqueline? She was there to help Marinette, so why didn't you mention her?” Well...
#4: Where the Hell Has Socqueline Been All This Time?
Like I mentioned in my “Jubilation” review, Socqueline is yet another unnecessary addition to the already overcrowded cast of characters in this show, and it seemed like this episode was meant to justify her inclusion, but it only raised more questions.
Just to remind you, this flashback establishes that Marinette was constantly bullied by Chloe until a nice girl in glasses stood up for her, and inspired Marinette to be more confident.
SOUND FAMILIAR?
Yeah, this flashback is pretty much the same as Marinette's arc in “Origins” was, only with Socqueline in Alya's place. We get it, writers, Season 1 was good. Constantly repeating stuff like what happened in “Mr. Pigeon 72” isn't going to win you any favors.
This really highlights how pointless of a character Socqueline is, as despite supposedly being a really important person in Marinette's life, Marinette herself never thought to tell anyone about her, and judging from how Marinette described her to Tikki in “Jubilation”, I don't think she even stayed in contact with Socqueline after she was expelled. It's not like left Paris afterwards. All we know is that she went to another school and got a job at a local arts and crafts store, so why did Marinette just stop talking with her? Even with Felix and Zoe, they had the excuse of being in different countries, but you can't say that with Socqueline.
Also, this was something I just realized, but if Mr. Damocles got her expelled, why the hell did Socqueline treat him like he was any other customer at her job, much less compliment him as a principal?
#5: The Handling of Trauma in General, and How This Impacts Marinette as a Character
Like pretty much every other serious issue it tries to tackle, Miraculous Ladybug has always had a poor understanding of mental health. When it comes to portraying characters who struggle with some form of grief of trauma, like Adrien, Felix, Chloe, Zoe, and even Marinette, the responses usually amount to some variation of “Grow a pair and get over it, you big baby!”.
With Felix, Chloe, and Marinette, even if their actions are partially motivated as a response to either losing a loved one, trying to emulate their neglectful parent, or as a defense mechanism to avoid repeating an already traumatic experience, they're all proven to be in the wrong, and it's not to teach a lesson about alternative coping mechanisms or support systems. The show just says that they're automatically wrong for what they do, what causes them to act the way they do is never acknowledged, and instead, we're supposed to just act like they're being jerks for no reason. Compare this to Adrien and Zoe, who both had rough lives losing their mother at a young age or living with an abusive mother respectively, and rather than go into detail how it affected them or how they managed to become decent human beings in spite of it, the show just says that they're nice people, so people like Felix, Chloe, and Marinette have no reason to be mean to others.
This is honestly why I feel like this episode's depiction of mental health and dealing with trauma falls flat. In case you didn't know, I asked my followers who had to deal with some form of trauma to share their experiences and how it compared to what Marinette went through in the episode. For the most part, the common consensus seems to be that while the symptoms of Marinette's trauma and her reactions to it are very believable, a lot of it is contradicted by previous episodes, and it seems like it was only there to do a story about dealing with trauma.
So many episodes across Seasons 1 through 4 show Marinette dealing with Kim and Chloe without really any issue, and she showed no problem with starting relationships with Luka and Cat Noir, to say nothing about Nathaniel's brief crush on her in “The Evillustrator”. If Marinette was so traumatized by this prank, why did she want to go swimming in episodes like “Gorizilla” and “Mr. Pigeon 72”? Why did she bother to help Kim confess to Chloe in “Dark Cupid”? Why did she team up with Chloe to sabotage Kagami in “Animaestro”? Why did she suggest Chloe could change for the better throughout Seasons 2 and 3? Why did she continue to let Chloe and Kim use the Bee and Monkey Miraculous respectively, even after they got them from outside sources? This flashback is desperately trying to tie previous events of the series together together, but it only works if you ignore all the times Marinette has interacted with Kim and Chloe without having a panic attack.
Then there's how the flashback tries to connect this to Marinette memorizing all of Adrien's schedule to make sure he won't hurt her, an obvious attempt to rebuff one of the biggest criticisms of her as a character. Here's why it doesn't work.
First off, the setup doesn't work because while Marinette vows to do a better job getting to know the next person she falls in love with and how, in her words mind you, “He isn't friends with Chloe”. Putting aside the kindness he's shown her in “Origins”, she kind of failed to really consider her choice to pursue him if he stayed friends with Chloe if we're going to believe Chloe traumatized Marinette so much.
It also doesn't really explain the more predatory actions Marinette has taken whenever another girl tries to get close to Adrien (The Bubbler, Volpina, Animaestro, Oni-Chan, Heart Hunter), or how she tries to rig up situations to get closer to him (The Gamer, Gigantitan, Backwarder, Party Crasher, Felix, Psycomedian, Glaciator 2, Simpleman). And that's not even getting into how obsessive she is with him in other areas, like repeatedly playing a commercial he was in (Gorizilla), making a bunch of presents for him in advance (Christmaster), trying to kiss a wax statue of him (The Puppeteer 2), sniffing his pillow (Cat Blanc), or all the other times she's creepily obsessed over him.
But of course, you've probably noticed that I've forgotten to mention one key thing about what this flashback means: You know how Marinette tends to act nervously and stumbles a lot around Adrien when she isn't meticulously documenting his schedule? Yeah, they were essentially panic attacks brought on by her PTSD, and the episode tries to act like Kim did to her wasn't funny afterwards. Here's the problem with this.
YOU MADE MARINETTE'S TRAUMA YOUR PRIMARY SOURCE OF COMEDY FOR THE PAST FIVE FUCKING SEASONS!
You do NOT have the right to act like what happened to Marinette was bad when you were constantly playing her anxiety up for laughs for almost EIGHT YEARS at this point!
In addition to all the other examples I mentioned, we had episodes like “Psycomedian”, which confirmed that the same behavior that this episode is trying to say is connected to her trauma was hilarious to Adrien, as well as “Backwarder”, which thrived on playing up Marinette's anxiety towards Adrien and was said to be one of the funniest episodes of the show to work on by Astruc himself.
THIS IS WHAT THOMAS ASTRUC ACTUALLY BELIEVES
#6: Why This Flashback Is Ultimately Pointless
But above all, the biggest problem I have with this flashback is because of how pointless it is. It's trying to better go into detail about why Marinette acts the way she does around Adrien, but did we really need to do that?
This flashback doesn't really reveal anything that we didn't know already. We know Marinette was bullied by Chloe, we know she was a lot more meek and needed others to stand up for her, and we definitely know that we're not supposed to like Chloe. Adding to my earlier point, if we actually got more insight into the origin of Chloe's obsession with Marinette, that would have at least made this flashback important to watch, but once again, despite being a flashback episode, we learn nothing about the characters that we don't already know.
But this flashback is also meant to explain why Marinette is so hesitant to embrace her new relationship with Adrien when we already got a reason for that last season. The first half of the season has made a big deal about how much her feelings for Adrien cost her the Miraculous, so why not focus on that? This flashback just feels like it's here to give more Marinette angst instead of focusing on the things they've already established. And that's not even getting into what she saw during “Cat Blanc”.
Why couldn't we just have a story about Marinette's own insecurities causing her to doubt she can make her relationship with Adrien work, seeing how poorly things ended with Luka? Have her worry that something could go wrong as a result of her need to overcompensate, or worry that Adrien could betray her. That way, you could have Adrien supporting Marinette in a way that reflects their partnership as Cat Noir and Ladybug respectively.
But no. Instead we have this flashback that's taken me about ten pages to fully dissect. And the worst part is that I still have the rest of the episode to talk about. God help me...
So after Adrien and Ondine explain how this prank could have done a lot of damage to Marinette's psyche, Kim decides to find Marinette, and apologize for being so—Ah, I'm just messing with you guys. After all, that would actually make Kim likable. So what does he say instead?
Kim: Come on! Loosen up, you guys! It's like you can't even speak your mind these days.
Ondine: That doesn't give you permission to hurt other people!
Kim: Whatever! I'm the way I am and I'm fine that way! It's not my fault you guys have no sense of humor!
Yep, rather than having Kim realize the error of his ways and maybe be akumatized out of guilt, Kim just whines about how everyone else is just a humorless pansy these days. The writers pretty much made Kim's motivation boil down to “It's just a prank, bro!”. Even Monarch seems to go along with this, as he refers to Kim as “A free spirit feeling unjustly rejected”, when this was right after he called Chloe the prettiest girl in front of his own girlfriend's face. So Monarch sends his Akuma to Kim's goggles, akumatizing him into Dark Humor. Yes, that's really the name they're going with.
Dark Humor is a pretty forgettable recolor of Dark Cupid. Other than inverting the red and black color scheme and giving him a targeting scope on his right eye, there's not much else to say other than the incredibly on the nose name they gave him. His powers are sort of like Dark Cupid's, only now, instead of turning people heartless, they now share his soulless brand of “humor”. At least, I think it is. His Alliance power is the Monkey Miraculous's Uproar, but it's not really clarified if he's only using Uproar arrows or not, judging from the use of the rubber ducky that we've seen King Monkey use before.
Marinette and Adrien transform into Ladybug and Cat Noir respectively, but once they meet up, we get the most controversial part of the episode that isn't connected to the flashback scene: Cat Noir gives Dark Humor the beatdown of his life and is about to Cataclysm him, for pulling a bad prank on Marinette a year ago. Yeah, a lot of people have pointed out that Adrien felt a lot of remorse for Cataclysming Monarch earlier in this season, yet here, Cat Noir looks like someone told him that Kim just shot the Pope. For God's sake, writers, you're five seasons in! How hard is it to determine whether or not you want your hero to be okay with killing people or not?
And of course, this bites him in the ass, as Dark Humor stabs Cat Noir with an arrow, not only changing his Cataclysm into something that creates a bunch of balls from his hand, but also making him just as insane as the rest of Dark Humor's victims. You know, I'm this close to starting a “Remember Season 1” counter, because this is just glorified fanservice.
Ladybug tries to summon her Lucky Charm, but is stopped by Dark Humor, so Ladybug transforms back into Marinette, transforms into Ladybug again, and summons her Lucky Charm for real this time, getting... a toilet. Of course, the only way to combat Dark Humor's bad jokes is by using even worse jokes! Genius! Ladybug places the toilet over Dark Humor's head and breaks it along with the goggles, freeing the Akuma.
Ladybug de-evilizes the Akuma, uses Miraculous Ladybug to fix the damage, gives Kim a useless Magical Charm, and Cat Noir apologizes for murdering Kim by saying his emotions got the better of him, which is like saying OJ Simpson and his wife had a minor disagreement.
Kim apologizes to Marinette for traumatizing her, and I guess that's enough for Ondine to forgive him for saying another girl is prettier than her.
After Marinette sort of explains what happened to Adrien, he goes over to tell Chloe to apologize, and we get... this scene.
Adrien: I know about everything that you did to Marinette last year, Chloe. You're going to go and apologize to her and prove to everyone that you can change. I'm sure she'll forgive you.
Chloe: (laughs) Forgive me? What do I care about her forgiveness? I couldn't care less about Dupain-Cheng's feelings! She and the likes of her only exist to suffer for my entertainment. Why bother having power if you can’t use it against those who don’t have any? You’re the one who’s getting things wrong, with your baker girl! You’re a prince! You belong with me, the princess! You’re in this world to shine! To make fun of all the losers who are only good enough to be used as doormats!
Adrien: You're nothing like a princess, Chloe. I supported you. I gave you multiple chances to become a better person. Everyone reached out to you, including Ladybug and Cat Noir when they gave you the Miraculous of the Bee again. But all you ever think about is yourself.
Chloe: And what else IS there to think about? Losers and nobodies? The little bees? The planet?
Adrien: We will never be friends again, Chloe. You and I are done.
Chloe: Traitor.
Okay, first off, “She and the likes of her only exist to suffer for my entertainment.”? That's the line you're going with? She sounds like a dark lord in an RPG game. How is this the closest thing we ever get to an explanation to why Chloe hates Marinette so much?
Second, ignoring the fact that we already had Chloe end her friendship with Adrien last season (Queen Banana), it's pretty weird that this is the breaking point in their friendship. Adrien doesn't mention all the other times she's bullied people or when she sided with Hawkmoth even when he brought up her time as Queen Bee. He saw her being mean to so many people over five seasons, yet only when he learns Chloe did something to his girlfriend that he decides to finally confront her. If we at least got a line where Adrien acknowledged that he essentially enabled Chloe for so long by thinking she could change, that would have at least sort of worked. Instead, he makes it about how she refused to change herself. Dude, you had the chance to stand up to her for years, and you even did so in one episode before you went back on it (Despair Bear). You have nobody to blame but yourself.
Finally, Chloe is pretty out of character here. She's way too calm about ending her friendship with Adrien compared to what happened in “Despair Bear” and “Queen Banana”. You'd think if the writers wanted this to be a big moment of catharsis for the audience, Chloe would at least beg Adrien to stay a little. But no, Chloe brushes it off when it could easily justify her getting worse in later episodes, and even Adrien doesn't even consider how much he thought Chloe's friendship meant to him. Because these writers are dedicated to making sure that any identifiable trait Chloe once had is removed so you have no choice but to hate her.
But hey, at least the episode's over. What did I think of it?
youtube
Yeah, it wasn't very good.
I just... what else do you even want me to say here? I spent about ten pages going over why the flashback sequence doesn't work, I've already ranted about Cat Noir trying to kill someone with his Cataclysm in previous episodes (Hack-San, Jubilation), and I think you all know what my feelings on the portrayal of Chloe and Kim are.
I guess I can answer one question you may have: Is this episode worse than either “Penalteam” or “Queen Banana”? Eh, not really. Let me explain.
The problems with “Queen Banana” and “Penalteam” went beyond the treatment of Chloe with the way the stories were handled, with “Queen Banana” being a cheap jab at critics and TV executives while propping up their new character Zoe, and “Penalteam” being an excuse to have a soccer episode while making Cat Noir look like a buffoon right before the finale. Most of the problems with this episode have more to do with how they affect the way we see previous episodes, and why some scenes that were already unfunny are even less funny now.
With this episode, you can at least tell there was some effort being made to tell a more serious story here that went into what made Marinette tick. Yeah, it and the themes of mental health and trauma were handled about as gracefully as a ballet dancer trying to get a bear trap off their leg, but there's at least an attempt here.
Of course, this episode is still awful. The conflict with Kim not getting how much of a jerk he was after a year was dumb (as was him being even more of a jerk as Dark Humor), the fact that Marinette's trauma seemed to come and go when the plot needed it to really showed off how forced it is, and it only ends with you having more questions about Marinette and Chloe's rivalry rather than answering them.
While I'm still not a fan of this episode, and would still place it in my top five least favorites, I don't think it's the absolute worst. Although it's still the worst one so far this season from a technical standpoint.
THE BIGGEST IDIOT OF THE EPISODE IS...KIM
It says a lot when Cat Noir actually tried to murder someone in this episode, yet not only is he not even considered for the award this episode, the person he tried to kill ends up being the bigger idiot. Not only did he easily fall for Chloe's plan when she insulted him to his face, he failed to understand how it affected Marinette for a year, and when he was told about how bad it was, he refused to take responsibility for his actions, blamed it on other people not being able to take a joke, and only gave the smallest apology after he was almost killed for his attitude. It's honestly funny how he somehow comes across as more unlikable than Chloe, the character this episode was made to make you hate even more.

(So this is after the end of the season 5, they are 16-17, and now they are a team called " The Zodiac ", i guess that's it?)
F/1= Friend one
F/2= Friend two
Y/N= Your name
(You can pick their name!)
Studying in a new school can be difficult, luckily, but at least your bestfriends came with you! Since your parents and their parents wanted you guys to finish school together, and your previous school was difficult for the three of you... so at least you have them and won't be alone!
It would be better if they didn't complain so much...and argued sometimes
" Why are you so annoying F/2? "
" ME? So i am the annoying one?! "
" Stop arguing! Are we going inside this school or no?! "
" Ugh, whatever...let's go "
You guys get along, but sometimes they just annoy you, it's normal? Be annoyed by your own friends?
You guys go to your new class, the teacher introduces you guys as the new students
F/1
F/2
And Y/N
And you became friends with the WHOLE class somehow, and after months in the class, the obsession hit them like a train
You're so kind, gentle, calm, generous, friendly, every positive trait of the world, you are, the own perfection in person, if anyone search perfection in the dictionary, they bet that person will find a photo of you
And they hate your friends, is not really a question of jealously, in part it is, but more because of how they treated you sometimes
" Shut up Y/N! "
" Is none of your bussines Y/n! "
" Sorry... "
Of course, it had moments when you would scold your friends, but you wouldn't insult them or end your friendship with them, just scold them like a mom would do, you also solved their fights, you are the peacemaker of the group
How they hated when you would pass time with them, how they wish they could protect you from these demons you call friends....
Wait a second...
They are superheroes! They can do this!
So if trying to make you end your friendship with them, blame them of something, or any of these plans they made don't work
Well, don't be surprised if F/2 is reported as missing, and F/1 turn to dust
Don't worry silly! You're safe now!
