Today, I stand before you to shed light on the extreme hostility faced by the LGBTQI community in Uganda. In Uganda , individuals are persecuted simply for who they are and whom they love. This persecution takes many forms, from discriminatory laws and social stigma to violent attacks and even death penalties.

In the area where I’m based,LGBTQIA individuals are denied basic human rights, including access to healthcare, education, and employment . People like me face daily threats to their safety and well-being, often living in fear of being attacked. This hostility is not just a violation of human rights; it is a moral failing that we must address.

We must stand together to challenge hatred and promote acceptance. Every person deserves to live with dignity and respect, free from fear and discrimination. Let us work towards a world where love and identity are celebrated, not condemned.

Since the proposal of the anti LGBTQIA bill the violence against LGBTQIA+ persons in Ghana has increased drastically on a daily basis. Almost everyday there is an alleged gay, lesbian or trans persons attacked either by mobs on the street or by blackmailers who pose as LGBTQIA+ fellows and lure young people into isolated areas, abuse, rape and beat them. The videos we receive daily are so disgusting,  traumatising and inhumane to think about and we can not even share them. It's shockingly true to see people with clubs and cutlasses in this particular video ready to butcher this young guy (between the age of 17-19). Others heated electric iron to burn him while some perverse perpetrators screaming to video his genitals and share on social media. How will you feel if this victim is your child, sibling or family? Where is our conscience? How could we even do such evil things in the name of God, Jesus or religion? We are calling on the @ghpoliceservice the Members of Parliament,  judiciary and all relevant authorities to ensure safety and protection for all Ghanaian citizens regardless of our gender and sexuality. I want to plead with the Ghana Police Service to arrest all perpetrators of such violation of human rights and those politicians inciting violence on social media, TVs and radios declaring war to stone LGBTQIA persons to death.  This bill has not only 'endangered' the lives of LGBTQIA persons but also others perceived by prejudices and stereotypes to be an LGBTQIA persons. The bill is a threat to the entire Ghanaian society, even those homophobes who fail to see the extent at which this violence and hate will spread like a bush fire that will catch up with everyone. Soon it will turn into witch hunting, someone just have to point fingers at you that you are gay, lesbian, trans etc then you may end up in mob attacks. Let's remember what happened to the military Captain Maxwell Mahama in 2017 who was accused by a woman and lynched mobs as an armed robber while he was assigned to protect the same town.  If you remain silent today, tomorrow it may be you or your love ones. I had several sleepless nights since I received this abusive and violent video just thinking of how we could reach and help the victim. This is so traumatic and can lead to further harm and danger including suicidal acts. The video suggests it happened at Odumase. @ghpoliceservice please follow up on this before things get out of hand in this country.  Unfortunately I cannot share the original video but I am calling on @ghpoliceservice, the media and any concerned organisations, lawyers etc to help investigate the case and arrest the perpetrators of this injustice and inhuman act of violence. The Ghanaian constitution condemned such acts of violence, abuse, harassment and wickedness. This month alone we have received several cases of similar violence across the country following the proposed anti LGBTQIA+ bill and the cruel statements from some heartless politicians who publicly declared that LGBTQIA+ persons must be stoned to death. I entreat every concerned person reading this to share widely until justice is served.  If you remain silent today, tomorrow it may be you or your love ones even if you are not gay some enemies can simply accuse you or blackmail you so do not say it is none of your businesses. ..
