Just realized that having the Crystal Eminence be a Sifa either fully or mixed in the fan rewriting would also be good because (until canon proves us the contrary it is my HC) when other Gelfling survivors returned to meet Jen and Kira (and little future Commander) who thought they were the last ones, it was thanks to Sifa and their boats and never ever ceasing sailing like moving water villages that the species could survive until sensing something changed and checking on land some trine after the movie. So even if by now Gelfling understood they all were equals, there was extra respect for Sifa. They saved them, taught them how to live at sea more or less normally for over 50 trines, and guided them. Plus, Sifa having always been mixed with other clans and always been known for that, they became a symbol of unity and wisdom because being the Gelfling who understood before everyone Gelfling were equals and could mix and it was thanks to this wisdom they were saviors
So if the Crystal Eminence was a Sifa and part of these survivors and among the first to walk on land again and meet Jen and Kira, he was dubbed Crystal Eminence for a reason. Maybe he was a captain, or at least an authority figure or a symbolical person. The Maudra's (Ethri ?) son or nephew or cousin even, maybe. We know he is an opportunist as the Crystal Eminence who manipulates Jen and Kira into being inactive and the Commander into believing him and helping him while he gives 0 shit about Thra and its people and just wants his comfort zone and status to stay unchanged, so he probably was an opportunist among the survivors, but he is a manipulator who gives you the illusion of being legit so they probably highly respected him, especially if his status and/or his family background were/was unique (in a way, no wonder he ends up helping the Skeksis. He was just like one in soul), so he was probably sent to Jen and Kira to make contact and present them in behalf of all the survivors and, initially jealous to see they attracted all the attention (Gelfling, one who descended from the last All Maudra, having defeated the Skeksis and fixed the Crystal and chosen by Aughra herself to rule over that new world and fix it, and had the first Childling born on land in 50 trines. Of course they would immediately be adored and respected), quickly realized it would be for the best to be on their side and become their éminence grise, so offered his services to them and to spread the word of the Crystal to fidels in their name ; they would do politic, he would do religion. Just little by little trying to get both by the time of the rewritten story since religion is often more impactful than power to the people and it allows you to be closer in contact
It could also explain why the rewritten Commander would also be so faithful to him and aggressive to anyone he would see as heretics towards him and the Crystal. If he was a little child when he came, he probably saw him as a hero. So Gelfling were alive all along ? Thanks to people like him ? And now he offered to protect and interpret the Crystal itself and help his parents in the quest Aughra and the UrSkeks gave them ? Little Jarra who was already thriving to protect Thra and his parents and never let a crisis happen again had to be impressed this man helped so much, so now himself protects and helps through military means, he sees the Crystal Eminence who had preached to him and taught him many things since childhood and filled his head with so much "believe me all the time, and remember everybody could be suspicious" bullshit as the spiritual, intellectual mean to his goal necessary to complete it
Finding out in the end he had been a fraud all along, that Thra almost died because of them and that he freed the Skeksis from jail were probably a huge toll on him, making him even more suspicious about anybody hence why despite it all it will take him so much to finally trust and respect Kensho even when tasked to co-rule, especially since despite it all and being angry at the Eminence knowing he is dead still must hurt which is probably something he yet again rejects and bottles up

Note
Although it's nice to imagine there are large groups of gelfling that the Skeksis didn't nab or kill using the Garthim, realistically it would have to be a tragically low number of survivors for the sake of Kira and Jen's shared destiny as the saviors of Thra. Most likely fewer than thirty.
Yeah it just wouldn't make sense. The more likely outcome is that survivors escaped by boat.

Happy True Loves Day/Valentines Day from Jen and Kira!
This is still a wip but I wanted to have something done for today. Be on the lookout for a full colored version of this! They are the OG babies and I plan on making some more art for them!

I’m really intrigued by this moment. Aughra watched Rian as he called out for Deet, and was aware that he left the group to go look for her. Aughra nodded her head at this, agreeing with his actions. What did Aughra know? Something about the future that involved them? Their feelings for each other? It’s not hard to tell. It seems to me Aughra wanted Rian to go after Deet. As if that’s what was always intended... I wonder why...

it’d be funny if Gelfling gender was just “Wings = woman, Wingless = man” purely for the chaos of
skeksis not getting how this works
(not helped by Gelflings almost always wearing cloaks)
skeksis getting frustrated at being corrected every other word bc they addressed someone wrong again
(apparently it's rude to ask if someone has wings)
emperor skek’So having to ban throwing Gelflings out of windows just to check what gender they are (winged or traumatized)
skek’So making new laws to make sure only women get important positions partly to control Gelfling society but also partly in the hopes this will Simplify Things
skek’So messing this up when he promotes a Gelfling for her leadership during the Arathim wars and makes her captain of the castle guard only to be told afterwards that Ordon is in fact a MAN
skeksis giving up and defaulting to calling all Gelflings “Gelfling” because gender is stupid
different clans having stricter or laxer ideas of what makes someone a woman or a man depending mainly on how close that clan’s social ties to the Skeksis are
re: Stonewood, Spriton, and Vapra being very No Wings No Woman and No Woman No Leading while
the Sifa let men be captains and love mixed up things including genders
the Dousan keep to older traditions including allowing men to be Sand Masters
the Grotten left Ha’rar partly because of the silly new rules the Skeksis were pushing there, including wing stuff
and the Drenchen have medical transitions thanks to the healing vliyaya of their Maudra’s family
Gelflings calling the skeksis “Lords” instead of “Ladies”, even though in their culture it’s the ladies that usually do the leading, just because the skeksis don’t have wings
Gelflings calling Aughra “Mother” even though she doesn’t have wings because even though they don’t remember how important she used to be to them the tradition of referring to her with the most respectful way they have still lives on.
Gelflings assuming Podlings are all men or eternally children
Podlings having fun with this by sometimes pretending to pull a newborn baby out of a pod while a Gelfling watches and goes ‘OAO` ????
Jen and Kira’s exchange of “Wings! I don’t have wings? :C” – “Of course not. You’re a boy XD” getting extra silly bc
poor “raised-by-mystics” Jen doesn’t know how Gelfling gender works and
Kira “remembers-her-mom-and-was-raised-by-podlings-who-understood-gelflings-gender-perfectly-fine-even-if-gelflings-wouldn’t-return-the-favor” thinks Gelfling gender is so obvious she doesn’t explain that “no wings = boy”, instead of the “boy = no wings” that Jen probably understood it as
Jen getting very confused when some of their kids start growing wings like ??? if they can grow wings... can I grow wings? OuO
Kira repeatedly having to save Jen from jumping off tall things
everyone watching the two saviors of Thra go crashing into the trees again bc one of them is sure if he falls enough times he will someday Fly
and the other literally died and got better so this doesn't even seem that far out to her and she completely supports her partner in Jumping Off All The Things
speaking of being supportive
Onica is still called a woman even after losing her wings (supposed indicator of womanhood) because she is either dealing with
her own clan (who don’t care)
other people from other non-conforming clans (the Grotten and Drenchen)
Kylan (who is a sweet heart)
or Tavra (her loving wife who cares more about people than any laws or tradition that might hurt them so much she died for it [and then also got better])
BONUS:
it would also mean Amri The Ally dressed in Gelfling drag to help a lesbian save her wife
and he rode off into the sunset with Naia, possible medically transitioned winged Gelfling who is now literal queen of her swamp people

The world overdosed the rain. It poured with loud thump on the thirsty, receptive ground. Thra breathed and drowned in the bliss of water. The grass bending down, trees touching the bloated sky with hungry crowns. The planet knew it was needed. Thra knew that after the months of dry air and dry soil, the rain was the only savior that was craved for by the nature.
He stood there, on spread legs, all four of his arms reaching up, up high, his masked face turned to faint light of the rose sun.
The droplets falling down his skull mask, trailing path only the bone knew. His robes, thick hunting garb, furs of his prey, wet and thickly enfolding his body, body which now was lose, not tensed by numerous dangers.
It was his time.
His place.
He howled to greet the rain. The noise of pouring water didn’t manage to silence the wild roar and the sound of freedom ranged among the forest.
His place.
And the rain was the sign that after long slumber, it was waking up.

Always the Hero
You were always the hero.
Doing adventurous and dangerous quests to the most simplest and menial tasks. From traveling to a realm filled with spirits in different shapes and beings alike to finding an amulet for a citizen’s one love.
Always acting for others, always wanting to please and to calm. Never relaxing, never sleeping, always tired and wanting to act the sloth and just lay in your bed all day.
Yet always filled with energy, wanting to find new ruins or quests to do. Always fighting, adrenaline singing in your veins, eyes wide and lips curved in a rare grin when you find something new and unknown, thinking in your mind on why you would want to rest when there is so much more to explore.
You were Dovahkiin, the Dragonborn.
The Honoured Thane of all Skyrim, Harbinger of the Companions, Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold, Listener and Leader of the Dark Brotherhood, Guild-Master of the Thieves Guild, Member of the Bards College, Beloved Apprentice of the Greybeards, Vampire Lord of the Volkihar Clan, Savior of Solstheim, The Victorious Conqueror of Solitude, Peacemaker, Stormblade, Champion of the Nine Divines and Champion of some Daedric Princes, Dragon Priest Slayer, Honorary Member of the Moth Priests, Dwemer Expert, Bounty and Treasure Hunter, Master of the Thu'um, and Vanquisher of the World-Eater Alduin.
So many titles, so many burdens upon your shoulders. Everyone looks to you with hope or fear in their gazes, because of how much power you bear and the many ways you can use it. The responsibilities were endless, always stressed, always tense, always trying to stay two steps ahead of the enemy;whether real or in your mind.
Always rescuing. Yet always killing. Always giving. Yet always stealing. Always finding friends. Yet always being betrayed. A constant cycle, a cycle that has long been in the spectrum of different shades of grey. No longer are actions and choices black and white. Some days you find yourself choosing a light grey, always soothing for your heart that is always being cracked. Always warm.
Other days your choices are too dark, too dirty. Your silence was the strongest those days, for you were screaming in your mind at this madness. Surely you will become mad! The thought of joining Sheogorath in his realm scared you those days. But then you calmed yourself, remembering how the Daedric Prince was, and how you couldn’t help but smile when you were temporarily in his realm for that quest. The Prince was odd and certainly mad, but he was fun and interesting. With this, the darkness soon washes away, but it never gets rid of the stain in your mind and heart.
All these actions, all these choices, all these titles and groups that were yours for you were their trusted and valuable leader.
And yet, at the end of the day, you were just (Y/N). Friends with your once superiors now followers. Even friends with at least two Daedric Princes and friends of dragons. That’s all you wished to be, yet you were so much more.
So much more then you wanted. You never wanted this, never wanted to be the fated hero and savior of the world like something out of a story or legend.
But you were. You’re a hero. A legend.
The day you defeated Alduin you knew Sovngarde would be where you would rest once you die, if not Alduin, then surely all the other tasks you have accomplished. Regardless of race, you knew this.
You’re so much. Yet you did not want to be such.
The day came where you had enough of Skyrim. Where you already explored every ruin, every cave, every rune for a new Shout, every village, every city, every island, every possible realm you can enter, and even every crevice no matter how small.
You were here for so long, surely you would miss your now and only home? The place that held so many comrades, young and old, from Khajit to Nord, mortal or immortal, would you leave them?
Your answer that was before just long and hesistant consideration is now a strong yes in your mind.
You wish to see something new. Not the same land filled with so much sadness and pain, yet happy times and victory. You seek new adventures that would make your blood sing, for it has been long since a quest made you feel such. For menial tasks always made your eyes dead, gait sluggish for you were bored. The gratitude though from the person who asked, made you feel better. The reward of money was now just a plus, a plus that you are growing to believe is unneeded for there is not much of anything you wish to buy in this land. Not anymore.
So you went to the best port of Skyrim, which is in the coast of Solitude. Thankfully the Dainty Sload was still there, for it was the ship you have chosen to carry you in this unique adventure. You climbed aboard, familiarizing yourself once more about the vessel that used to be home of the Corsairs. You knew how to control a ship, and you are sure you will be able to handle it by yourself. Once you were ready, you gazed at Skyrim for one final time. As well as Tamriel.
You do not want to be in this country, believing the other provinces would just be filled with nothing but the same like Skyrim. You want something completely new, completely strange.
You want something unknown.
For even though you deny it, you are an adventurer, therefore a hero. Always excited at new lands, new people, and new quests. It’s just you did not enjoy how others looked at you afterwords. Their awefilled gazes, with hope shining in their pupils as they asked for more favors always expecting for you to succeed because you are the legend, the Dragonborn.
Your gaze was sad as you looked at Solitude, the only city that will see you off. If you had a choice, you would rather see off Whiterun. But alas, Whiterun is near no ocean nor rivers that will eventually lead to one. You gazed at the architecture, your well trained and farseeing eyes taking everything in. You turned, quickly.
Not wanting your mind to think of the prisoners of the Civil War under the Blue Palace, nor of Viarmo the Headmaster of the Bard’s College, or the children who enjoyed playing tag and hide and seek with you.
You prepared the sails to distract yourself from your memories, when your ear twitched.
“Wait!”
Your eyes widened, recognizing the voice, and turned. There was your friend, Serana staring at you with those yellow orange eyes of hers with confused betrayal underneath her pulled up hood to protect her from the sun as she stood at the wooden pier. You stared, not expecting her to be here. You told her to go back home and stay at her castle. Why is she here? That is what you asked, and it caused her fists to clench.
“Why am I here?! You’re leaving! You were going to leave and just leave me here alone. How could you do that?!” The vampire’s voice cracked, eyes filled with tears refused to fall. It made your cracked heart break a little more.
“You weren’t going to be alone, Garen is there as well as the others even though their company can be rather sour—“
She interrupted with a fierce glare and snarl.
“You know that is not what I meant! And at this point, I know you more then I know them. You are my only family left (Y/N). The only one I can fully trust and not use me, who truly cares for me.” You knew she was talking about her mother, Valerica who put Serana to sleep for thousands of years without explaining. The statement only made your brows furrow with emotion. “But then you left me. I know you, how you are. Just like you know me and how I hate being alone. You…” the woman looked down to the ground, pausing, there was a pained silence between the two of you. When she looked up, you tried to not jump off the ship and hug her tight.
“You…you were going to leave me. And never come back.”
She was crying. And your will of leaving this land wavered for a moment.
Only for the littlest of moments.
“You know there is nothing left for me to do here. You say you know me, then you know why I’m doing this.”
‘To escape. To learn. For freedom. For adventure. To forget.’
You continued.
“Skyrim…I have done what I could here. And with what I did with Alduin, I have done enough for Tamriel as well. There’s more to this world then this country, I know there is.” You turned your eyes to the sea, (e/c) eyes distant. Mind in a whirl on just how much different other places are from Tamriel. “I wish to leave this place.” You turned your head back, noticing that Serana was quickly climbing up to the ship. You rose your brow with a disapproving frown.
“What are you doing?” She looked at you with blazing orange eyes, pausing on her movement up the rope ladder on the side of the ship.
“I’m coming with you.”
“No. You are not. It’s too dangerous—“
“And it isn’t dangerous for you?!” She was now on the ship, getting close to your body with her finger waving at your chest. “You think just cause you’ve done all these things that you cannot die? You don’t even know much about the other continents of this world. Of Akavir, Thras, Pyandonea, and Atmora. As well as the destroyed Yokuda and Aldmeris. I can take care of myself, and we have plenty of Bloodcursed Elven Arrows if things become too much. Do you not have faith in my capabilities?”
You do. She’s quite a fighter. It’s just what you seek is something even more outrageous then Serana believes.
“Don’t misunderstand Serana. I know how strong you are, it’s just…I wish for the unknown, my friend. This world, it’s grand isn’t it?” You began walking around, motioning your hands to your sides, your voice slowly getting more animated. “So much mystery, so many places lost as well as races like the Dwemer and Snow Elves who sadly became Falmer. The majority of races came to Tamriel from somewhere else, somewhere beyond. And we don’t even know where some of these lands are! Or if there’s more areas then we think with their own inhabitants!” You looked at her, eyes sparkling with an excited grin. Serana was gazing at you oddly, for seeing you so cheerful about subjects or other these days did not happen often. Her eyes then slowly widened in realization.
“You want to discover a new continent…go to Aldmeris or Yokuda?!” At your silence, lips staying in a smile, she grabbed your shoulders. “That is madness, who knows how long we will be out in the sea with no food and constantly in the sun with no water? Or if we even land somewhere? The inhabitants might be dangerous or more bloodthirsty then my father.” You held back your tongue that you are just as dangerous or even more so with how much you’ve accomplished. As well as say that you may have a touch of madness. “There’s so much risk in this, you really think you cannot die?”
You paused, tilting your head as you gazed at your close female friend that was once the daughter of Harkon. You thought on her words.
Can you die? You’ve been so close numerous times, but that was during your early days of your arrival to Skyrim. You remember the fear, the confusion of this new region and the number of dragons and people wanting your head. It’s been a long time though, you’ve matured and very much experienced with all sorts of enemies.
So, can you die?
“…I don’t know. I do know that this is possible and there’s more to this world then three continents. And,” you grinned slightly, “risks make things fun.”
You stunned Serana into silence, whether from how you aren’t sure if you can die or how you seem to want to find out if you can with this adventure. You thought the danger would make her walk away and leave this ship. And she did walk away. Only towards the main sail and prepare it. You sighed, seeing that she’s determined to follow although you disapprove and are positive you will only worry for her.
But a part of your shattered heart grew warm that you will have someone here with you in this journey. Even though you are positive the woman will complain about the environment till your ears will fall off. What can you say? People who were stubborn and determined always captured your respect and interest, especially if they look at you sadly and ask for favors.
You were always the hero. Always wanting to please and to soothe.
When you made sure there were enough supplies for the both of you, whether food that was salted or items to help purify water as well as good and your precious weapons, the both of you were off.
You did not look back, even when Serana made a comment as she looked at the now faraway city of Solitude.
“Skyrim always was beautiful and had amazing weather…I’m going to miss it.”
‘Me too.’

The world overdosed the rain. It poured with loud thump at the thirsty, receptive ground. Thra breathed and drowned in the bliss of water. The grass bending down, trees touching the bloated sky with hungry crowns. The planet knew it was needed. Thra knew that after the months of dry air and dry soil, the rain was the only savior that was craved for by the nature.
He stood there, on  spread legs, all four of his arms reaching up, up high, his masked face turned into faint light of the rose sun.
The droplets falling down his skull mask, trailing path only the bone knew. His robes, thick hunting garb, furs of his prey, wet and thickly enfolding his body, body which now was lose, not tensed by numerous dangers.
It was his time.
His place.
He howled to greet the rain. The noise of pouring water didn't manage to silence the wild roar and the sound of freedom ranged among the forest.
His place.
And the rain was the sign that after long slumber, it was waking up.

I know many like to constantly rag on Jen from The Dark Crystal (1982) and accuse him for doing nothing to help Thra. I personally am a huge fan of Jen, and don’t agree with these statements. I’m also a huge fan of Kira, she’s a complete badass and I love that they met, and that Kira aided him on his journey to save Thra, but please don’t count Jen out and say he didn’t do anything.
- The biggest thing to consider when it comes to Jen, his character arc, and why he was so confused with everything, is because he literally found out about a life changing prophecy in a matter of a minutes. Not because he was “dumb” and couldn’t figure anything out. His caretaker urSu told him about A crystal shard, the prophecy, a woman named Aughra, and that the story he was originally told about his parents getting killed by Skeksis was more complicated than Jen truly knew, with a few major details left out, like what the purpose of the shard was for, before urSu passed away.
With only bits and pieces of information, Jen had to figure it out step by step. Naturally it would’ve taken some time.
- The series of events had to happen like this, because if Jen found out any more information, or alternatively figured it out all in one sitting, Jen wouldn't have taken the journey he went on and the prophecy wouldn’t have been fulfilled. Jen couldn’t know that, thought, so of course anyone would be feeling confused and stressed. Everything now weighed on his shoulders. He had to go off and save Thra alone (or so he thought.)
- Yes, Jen lost his parents as a childling, just like Kira, but please remember they grew up very differently.
- Jen was raised by The Mystics (The urRu) while Kira was raised by the Podlings. The urRu had to stay safe, hidden from the Skeksis, and remain unharmed until the Third Great Conjunction, when they would set out to the Crystal Chamber where the prophecy could be fulfilled. They had to stay out of danger, and keep everything a secret from Jen until he was at the right age to properly learn/go on his journey. The only thing Jen ever found out was that there were evil creatures called Skeksis, and they killed his parents. urSu told him about a crystal shard, but how was Jen supposed to know what to do with it? He never knew a crystal even existed. Everything sounded like a riddle to him.
- Kira on the other hand found out much about Skeksis, Garthim, The Dark Crystal, etc. thanks to the Podlings, who shared their knowledge on personal experiences with Skeksis and Garthim due to the horrible mistreatment of Podlings as slaves.
- I personally believe Jen and Kira were kept unbeknownst to each other for a reason. I think both The urRu, and Podlings who survived the Garthim Wars knew there were two Gelflings alive, not just the one they were each secretly looking after, but Jen and Kira had to be separated until a certain point so the prophecy could come into fruition.
Jen was born the savior because that’s the way the prophecy always intended it to be.
Kira couldn’t have been the savior, she had to be the driving force.
- After meeting, both Gelflings were shocked and elated to have someone else in Thra just like them. They got attached immediately, and with no questions asked, agreed to help each other. Kira was kind, and shared all the information she knew from the Podlings once Jen mentioned the prophecy. Since Kira learned about the outside world and other creatures of Thra, this worked out in Jen’s favor. Without Kira, Jen wouldn’t have known where to go or who to trust after Aughra. She had to be the one to help guide him through the unknown territory of Thra.
- One of the key moments that deserves mass appreciation is Jen not being fooled by The Chamberlain’s begging.
Jen knew Skeksis were evil, because of what happened to his parents, but he had never met one before. Just because Chamberlain looked scary, or Skeksis did something horrific in the past, not all were evil. Jen had a kind heart and didn’t want to assume all Skeksis were evil (ahem, The Heretic, anyone?) However, this manipulative Skeksis was. Kira’s instincts kicked in and she warned Jen that Chamberlain was tricking him. Jen could’ve easily believed Chamberlain’s cries about wanting to help them and have Skeksis make peace with Gelflings... but he didn’t. Jen knew in his heart Chamberlain wasn’t genuine. A smart move. He wasn’t that naive.
- A scene people often tease Jen about is when he throws the crystal shard. I’d like to mention that he did this action out of frustration. He felt guilty for putting Aughra, Kira, and the Podlings in danger. The poor thing blamed himself, even though he never asked to be the savior. He never realized he’d have to grow up and have to save the world of Thra.
- Despite the pressure, Jen sheer determination carried him through. Throughout the entire film of trials and tribulations, Jen pushed forward, and never gave up. He wasn’t going to let anyone down. He loved the world he lived in, he wanted to avenge his parents so that their deaths wouldn’t be in vain, he wanted to honor urSu... and meeting Kira, another Gelfling, gave him hope and something else to fight for.
- The next day, he got up, and discovered ruins which used to be houses of the old ones. urSu taught him how to read, and in doing so Jen figured out what the prophecy meant. He realized he must make the crystal whole again, with the shard, and it was only meant to be done by Gelfling hand. Jen quickly jumped into action and raced towards the castle with Kira. When Kira was frightened (rightfully so) about going into the Skeksis castle, Jen understood but also knew they had gone too far to give up. It was his turn to motivate her.
- The last thing I’d like to mention is Jen’s heart.
When Kira was captured and getting her essence drained, he yelled and told her to hold on, keep fighting.
Now as far as we know, unless Kira had mentioned how Skeksis drained essence off screen, Jen never knew about this twisted operation. He had no idea what the Skeksis were doing to her (unlike in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance where this very action is what had the Gelflings rally and vow to take down the Skeksis power). Jen just wanted Kira to be safe.
- When Jen realized Kira had been surrounded by The Skeksis just as he was about to reattach the crystal shard, he got scared for her and tried to reason with them. Kira begged him not to worry and attach the shard, but Jen insisted they let Kira go instead. This wasn’t stupid of him. He would’ve done anything to protect her.
Wouldn’t you do the same for someone you loved?
- As tragic as it was for Jen to see Kira captured, tortured, and then stabbed by The Skeksis, it had to be done. Kira was Jen’s driving force. Her death sent him into a rage. Pushed him to carry out the prophecy. Jen shot his head up, made sure the three suns were aligned, and jammed the shard back into the crystal. The Skeksis ruined his life from the start by killing his parents, and then had the audacity to take the last good thing in his life away from him. Jen was over it.
- While the Mystics arrived at the castle and Skeksis were running around screaming, Jen paid no attention. He didn’t care what happened at that point. All he wanted to do was hold Kira in his arms. He just sat with her and cried, wishing she would come back to life. Jen did what was asked of him, even though again he never asked to be put in the position where he was born to be the savior.
In The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, not only do Rian, Deet, and Brea have each other to lean on, but there are 7 Clans of Gelfling which consisted of family, friends, and allies to love and fight beside each other.
It was different for Jen and Kira. As far as they knew, and we know as of right now, they were the only two surviving Gelfling.
Jen had lost everything, he only had Kira. They needed each other. All he wanted was to live a happy peaceful life. He had missed out on so much while having to stay secluded from all Thra had to offer. He saw a new future with Kira.
- In return for fulfilling the prophecy and saving Thra, thanks to Jen’s courageous and loving heart, his wish came true. The urSkeks were one again, and revived Kira.
Whoever his parents were (perhaps we will find out/already know who they are from Age of Resistance) would’ve been proud. Thra could prosper again. A whole new world awaited Jen and Kira.
My point is, Jen’s journey was full of intensity, loss, heartbreak, new discoveries, friendship, love, and he handled it all brilliantly. He prepared himself to venture out alone to fulfill a prophecy he learned about in just a matter of days, that had been foreseen and set up for him many trine ago. A brave, selfless, kind act. He was intelligent, and did the best he could with the situation he was thrown into.
Right as Jen set off on his journey he said “I’m not ready to go alone,” and then a few seconds later he said “All right, alone then.” Without any further contemplation. That is strength.
Then, almost as if fate had decided, he ended up meeting a Gelfling who changed his world forever, and together Jen and Kira were able to do what their ancestors and parents fought so hard for in the first place. Unity.

WARNING— MAJOR POTENTIAL SPOILERS ahead in case these headcanons end up being true in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, also a few are very sad so sorry in advance.
Some things to think about if our Gelflings truly are parents to Jen and Kira:
We aren’t sure how long Gelflings even stay childlings, or how much time they got to spend with their parents and family before the Garthim War and Skeksis took out our beloved Gelfling, but we can have hope.
If Rian and Deet are truly Jen’s parents:
- Just think about Rian and Deet actually being parents together.
- Rian crying when he found out Deet was pregnant, kissing her tummy and thanking Thra they were being blessed with a childling. Some miracle they had created together.
- The two doting over Jen. Admiring his fuzzy black and blue hair that perfectly resembles his father’s, and his sweet-hearted nature Jen inherited from his mother.
- Uncle Hup bonding with Jen. That is all.
- FUN UNCLE GURJIN AND FIERCE AUNTIE NAIA
- When The Skeksis decide to wipe out all Gelfling in full force, and start the Garthim Wars, all of Thra is in a panic.
- Rian and Deet finding out from Mother Aughra that Jen would be Thra’s savior. To ensure his safety, they had no choice but to hide him away with the Mystics. Even the Skeksis had no clue where the Mystics resided, so he would be safe there.
- Rian and Deet holding each other, cradling Jen, kissing him, and kissing each other, repeating I love yous over and over, sobbing because they were having a difficult time parting ways. Rian would be the one to deliver Jen to The Mystics. He wanted Deet to stay as safe as she possibly could.
- Rian and Deet embracing one last time, knowing that their love would be forever, before Rian ran out the door, with their son protectively wrapped in his strong arms.
- Deet accepting her fate, as she stood face to face with the Skeksis. Looking them right in the eye, and saying “You’re going to lose.” while smiling wide. Having hope that the love of her life successfully made it with Jen to the Mystics home. Knowing that in a few seconds she was about to be reunited with Rian once more, and they would be able to watch their son save Thra, together.
- The reason Aughra didn’t remember Jen or that Gelfling even existed anymore in The Dark Crystal (1982) was because she took the nulroot from the Sifa Clan. This way, she would never be able to admit to The Skeksis that baby Jen was born, or that he was going to be the savior. It’s why Aughra didn’t remember Kira, either. Thankfully, she’s more powerful than Elder Cadia, and her memory sparked back up once she met Jen when he was older.
If Brea is truly Kira’s mom:
- Unlike the Podling deterge incident, it was much easier to give Kira a bath.
- I know many believe Rek’yr could possibly end up with Brea, but I’m ruling in Kylan to end up with her and become Kira’s father. Just based on their few interactions, I did sense chemistry. He was really sweet and cared about her (he felt awful thinking about Brea losing her mother the All-Maudra AND Tavra)
- AUNTIE SELADON SPOILING KIRA
- I know Jen was only a childling, but think about Uncle Kylan gifting Rian and Deet with his firca for Jen to play once he was older, just as Auntie Deet bonded with childling Kira over animals.
- Though they were too young to remember, Jen and Kira did meet as children. Rian and Deet would frequently visit with Jen so the two could have playtime with the three best friends hung out and caught up.
- When The Garthim came to attack Brea ad Kylan’s home, Kylan stood up against the Garthim. Now a master at wielding his sword, Kylan held off the Garthim so that Brea was able to escape with Kira and place her in a tree.
- Brea loved reading and learning but because Brea wasn’t around to teach her, Kira didn’t know what words were or what reading was.
- The irony in Kira being raised by Podlings, the same creatures of Thra who drove Brea a bit crazy during her short time with The Order of the Lesser Service. I guess they made it up to her by raising her childling.
The reason I’m sticking with Brea being Kira’s mother is because in Deet’s vision, the Gelfling carrying Kira looked IDENTICAL to Brea, and if you watch the dreamfasting scene in The Dark Crystal, Kira’s mother was carrying her the same way— Kira was all bundled up, and her mother wore a white cloak, same as Deet’s vision where the female Gelfling was also wearing a white cloak.
There is another crazy part of me that believes Rian, Deet, and Brea survived somehow... and we might see Jen and Kira at some point in the series. It would be a crazy reveal and a shocking moment for everyone involved. What if their parents were alive? What if we saw Jen and Kira again, after all this time? Maybe I’m just hopeful.
