Okay, so… playing with well-established characters as babies (not to mention a character who is canonically dead in the current storyline) was kind of doing my head in. As cute as baby Victor is, the gameplay was not working for me, so I decided to try something else. New idea is based on comments made on one of my posts from back in January about the realistic childbirth mod.

I still haven’t decided whether this is an AU or not. For the moment, please assume that it is, because a baby would 100% derail my current storyline and I don’t know if I’m ready to commit to that much chaos.

Anyway...

If you’re following along with We Are Sugar Valentine, you’ve already met figure skating coach Nikolai Pavlenko and his ex-wife/current lover Anya. They’re insatiable, which increases the potential for an “oops” baby. They are also two of the people in my fictional universe who are probably worst-equipped to be parents without actually being completely horrible individuals (looking at you, Hana Okamoto & Ren Kitagawa).

They're back in Brindleton Bay, trying to cope with the reality of their unplanned baby, Alexandra (a.k.a. Sasha). It's... not going anything like it does on TV and in films (their main source of information up to this point), and they’re feeling misled and somewhat overwhelmed.

This is Nikolai’s house, which is now the family home since Anya moved in and Sasha was born.

Papa Nikolai is obviously in love with her:

I see a lot of people complaining about TS4 genetics, but I don't feel like the game's genetics system did Sasha wrong. I actually think she looks a lot like Nikolai, although she ended up with Anya's hair colour.

Anya is really bad at this parenting thing...

Sasha cries nearly every time Anya touches her, despite having the Sunny trait. I feel like she's going to be a handful, and with Anya as a parent, probably this will be an instance of playing the game on hard mode.

Also, I needed a model for my infant blush that I'm making, so Sasha was a good choice for that, too.

I really want to try the @pandasamacc realistic childbirth mod. All the reviews for it look amazing.

Need a victim test subject though. Hmm… 🤔

Writer/CC Creator Problem #9843

Characters are like stray animals. Once you give them a name, you're stuck with them. Same goes for sims; once you make CC specifically for them, they're yours forever.

Anyway, say hello to Alexander Pavlenko (or Sasha to his dads). I haven't 100% figured this out yet, but the guys have demanded that I let them keep him, so this is going to happen in some future portion of the storyline, regardless of the fact that I hadn't actually planned it and simply fell victim to my own experimentation yesterday.

You won't see Alexander's actual debut for a while. There's quite a few other things that need to happen first, and I will probably be making a crap ton of infant CC between now and then. But, feel free to comment/ask me stuff in the meantime. It's actually really helpful for character and plot development.

Thanks @dandylion240 ! This one's going to be fun! I'm not sure all these details are insignificant, but they are stuff that people in the context of the story might not know about him unless they know him really well.

Alexander Pavlenko

He did not get named according to Nikolai's family naming tradition, in which firstborn sons get named after their paternal grandfathers, and finally broke a generations-long chain of alternating generations of firstborn sons being called Mikhail or Nikolai. The main reason for this was because with parents called Mikhail and Nikolai, a living grandfather called Mikhail and a living great-grandfather called Nikolai, the confusion would be extreme (never mind that Mishka and Mike don't actually go by Mikhail on a daily basis). Also, Nikolai (the younger) wasn't fond of that naming tradition anyway, and Mishka was more than willing to not name their son Mikhail as he worried people would just start calling him "Junior" which he thinks is unattractive and weird.

Alexander didn't get named according to Russian naming conventions, either. He has regular middle names rather than a patronymic. The guys reasoned it'd be difficult to give him a patronymic, considering he has two dads.

Just because Alexander didn't get named according to the family tradition or according to Russian naming conventions, that doesn't mean Nikolai and Mishka didn't pay tribute to both those things. His full name is Alexander Nicholas Michael Pavlenko.

His dads call him Sasha, which is a diminutive form of Alexander. (along the same lines as Kolya for Nikolai and Mishka for Mikhail). Other family members and his close friends also call him Sasha, but he will routinely introduce himself as Alexander and prefers not to be called Sasha by acquaintances, professional contacts or people he doesn't know.

He has a heart-shaped birthmark on his lower back, similar to Nikolai and Great-Grandpa Nikolai.

As a teen, he still has his favourite toy from when he was a baby and thinks of it as a good luck charm.

He's allergic to shellfish, just like Mishka

He's annoyed that he hasn't managed to grow a decent beard yet, and is secretly a little jealous of his best friend Rowan, who likes to boast about his "luxurious" moustache.

He loves the colour pink

He learned to swim before he learned to walk

He's only a little more than a month older than his friend Rowan. The two of them met for the first time when Rowan was just a few days old.

He didn't learn to ride a bike until he was nearly a teenager, mostly because Mishka was extremely anxious about letting him do it. This was always met with, "But you let me play hockey." to which the response was, "You're wearing protective gear over every centimetre of your body when you play hockey." ...which led to twelve year old Alexander putting on all of his gear other than his skates, and trying to take Nikolai's bike for a spin. It did not go well. This is now a hilarious family story that gets re-told often, much to Alexander's embarrassment.

He loves animals and wants to be a veterinarian

He's terrified of going to the dentist, and one of his parents still has to go with him and hold his hand. Usually it's Nikolai, because the sight of Mishka and Alexander both quietly crying from fear is kind of overwhelming for their poor dentist.

He's a practical joker, and it only escalates when he and Rowan are together.

Mishka taught him how to knit and crochet, but he keeps it a secret from most people because he thinks his friends will make fun of him for it. if he wears something he's made and somebody asks him about it, he either says his grandmother Elena made it, or he tries to change the subject.
