"I must note, I'm accepting this award on the 336th day of Israel's genocide in Gaza and 76th year of occupation. I believe it is our responsibility as filmmakers to use the institutional platforms through which we work to redress Israel's impunity on the global stage. I stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and their struggle for liberation." - Sarah Friedland, during her acceptance speech at the 81st Venice International Film Festival

In light of Sarah Friedland articulating the history of occupation and genocide in Palestine and expressing support for the resistance, it's especially shameful that big names in Hollywood (like Jolie or Ruffalo or Amal Clooney) are so mealy-mouthed and weak in their statements.

“Lyd”: Palestinian & Jewish Directors of New Sci-Fi Doc on How 1948 Nakba Devastated Palestinian City
youtube
A new film about the once-thriving Palestinian city of Lyd, now known as the Israeli city Lod and home to Ben Gurion Airport, has begun screening in the United States. The film is a “science fiction documentary” that depicts the Palestinian city both with and without the 1948 Nakba, when over 750,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes and villages. In Lyd, Israeli soldiers massacred hundreds of Palestinians in Dahmash Mosque during their takeover of the city. “We use the story of Lyd to symbolize the story of the Nakba, the Palestinian Nakba, the demolition and expulsion of over 600 villages all across Palestine,” explains Rami Younis, a descendant of Nakba survivors from Lyd. Younis and Sarah Ema Friedland, the co-directors of Lyd, join Democracy Now! to share excerpts from their film and discuss the vision behind their project.

Sarah Friedland is a prime example of the “Assimilated Privileged Jew.” Born to artist Harriet Feigenbaum, Sarah and her relatives have lived in the unique comfort of being Jewish in America for GENERATIONS. The last time someone in her family was targeted for being Jewish, people still traveled by horse and cart. And like the moral narcissist she is, Sarah believes her experience as a privileged Jew living in New York is the norm, not the exception. She ignores the rest of us Jews who clawed our way out of concentration camps and ghettos and communist dictatorships and radicalized Islamist regimes. Those of us who prayed and bled and cried to return to our indigenous homeland until there were no words or blood or tears left. Those of us who would still be trapped with nowhere to go if Israel hadn’t saved us. She puts her privileged little foot on all of our necks while she accepts her nepotism trophy and campaigns for the title of “Chief As a Jew.” Sarah, you may be Jewish by blood, but you’re nothing more than a weak, ignorant, and desperate nepobaby trying to capitalize on selling out your Jewish brethren. Enjoy your accolades now, but know that history will never remember you, the Jewish people will never celebrate you, and your legacy will forever be lumped together with the genocidal Hamas terrorists who think raping children and kidnapping babies is “resistance.”

YOU has been renewed for a fifth - and FINAL - season by Netflix.
Quotes on the renewal below:
Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter: “We are so incredibly grateful to Netflix and Sera and everyone that has been a part of this show from the beginning. Sera is the most brilliant writer and partner and she will remain a key part of the YOU family as an executive producer.  We intend to bring her every idea we can from our company for years to come. Ever since our friends at Alloy shared Caroline Kepnes’ fantastic book we have always conceived it as a five season journey. We are excited to continue our relationship with Mike and Justin as they take over the reins as co-showrunners and prepare to bring Joe Goldberg home.”
Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series, Netflix, US and Canada: “YOU became an instant sensation on Netflix with a resounding cultural impact that has grown season over season. We’re excited — and a bit terrified — to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but one thing is for sure: YOU are in for an unforgettable ending.”
Sera Gamble: "As I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects, I'm immensely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros and Netflix. Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honor and ridiculously fun. And I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgely. I'm proud of what we've all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I'm excited to watch and support the You team as they bring Joe Goldberg's journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion."
Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo: "Working with Greg and Sera on YOU has been a highlight of our careers and we're incredibly honored to be entrusted with the final chapter of Joe Goldberg's story."

30 Rock Questions Its Sexuality
“Cougars” (November 29, 2007)
As comedically successful as it might be, 30 Rock is a very straight show. That’s why our best pick for a queer episode is one where the sexually interesting narrative is the C plot and it ends with Judah Friedlander’s Frank convincing himself he can’t like guys because he doesn’t fit prescribed definition of gay. This episode is ultimately harmless but indicative of some traps later Tina Fey efforts would fall into. But hey — it’s got “Muffin Top.”
