Another writing thing that was weird/inconsistent (and proof of mismanagement/miscommunication) about the Boruto anime writing team is them not giving Sarada her 3 tomoe sharingan during the Boro fight.

She unlocked her 2 tomoe sharingan here (can’t remember when she had the 2 tomoe in the manga) instead of the 3 tomoe which would suggest that the anime writers had big plans for the 3 tomoe evolution of her eye. The anime just went on hiatus and there’s no big Sarada events that’ll happen to evolve her sharingan aside from the mangekyo at this rate.

That begs the question... where were they planning on giving her the third tomoe? Was it a cut arc that the writers weren’t able to get approved? Was it perhaps the Funato arc where she literally watches Boruto jump to his watery grave right in front of her? I think the latter is the most likely scenario. Character moments were happening left and right in that arc.

We know that there’s been miscommunication with the writing team before as they built up Kagura as an important successor character only to kill him off after all the build up.

We know that the people in upper management for the anime are absolutely shit at communicating with their employees and the animators they hire because it’s all last-minute changes, updates, and additions with little-to-no time to make them. That’s why the quality on the animation started going down. They’ve been splitting their resources too allegedly; so, that’s probably why the writing team’s decisions have been strange or inconsistent. When the animation team is getting fucked over you can bet that other teams involved are probably getting fucked with as well.

So what could they do to fix this third tomoe sharingan problem? You’re gonna hate this, but an anime-only flashback arc of some sort showing when she got the third tomoe. Alternatively or along with it, an anime scene retcon (they did this with the Code & Isshiki scene and Code’s design as well as Utakata fighting Pain in the past in Shippuden) of something that happened like the Boro fight.

Not sure where the anime team would fit this into the episodes upon its return from hiatus, but they’ve done random flashbacks before. Maybe they’ll do an anime recap episode as the first episode upon the anime’s return and fix the Boro sharingan thing. There was absolutely some miscommunication between the manga team & among the anime team though.

Just realized the «Karatachi Kagura/Uchiha Sarada» tag on Ao3 is REALLY dry. Only 3 total works (two of which are gag fics and an unfinished wip 😭). Here's hoping the inventor of this small rarepair can change some of that! 🍻

Firstly, thank you for sending me so many prompts! I love them and most of them I’m thinking of writing in a canon setting. Of course, in a setting where Kagura is well and alive. Lol

Sad to hear that there are only a few fics on Ao3. We got to fix that 😤

I do love this ship a lot, Kagura especially. Lol! Maybe I’ll also release some old WIPs I have just to get myself started again. Hehe.

sheesh my perspective has been clouded by how yappy people have been about weird plot twists and immature self righteous fanfic morality over the years but like

it still holds up so well holy shit

and I can get so much more enjoyment from the more subtle characterizations now than I did as a kid I don’t remember so much of the stuff being so deep and layered when I first read them

I guess it’s also because the time has reduced my memory of the plot to dry bullet points of events so I’ve never had the opportunuty to reasses all the nuance

What do you think of the people who say that Sakura was a waste as Tsunade Senju's student and would have been much better off training Karin as a medic and teaching her the Byakugo seal, since it is definitely an Uzumaki clan technique based on the mark of Mito?

(To these people it doesn't seem fair that an outsider learned the seal from another clan that she doesn't even use properly due to her low chakra levels for these blinds if the Uzumaki clan was still alive Tsunade jamss could have trained in the use of the seal to sakura).

Thank you so much for the ask. It was interesting to think about it.

Is it really an Uzumaki technique ? Yes, the Uzumaki clan is known for their sealing techniques. Yes, Mito is seen to have a similar seal on her forehead. And maybe Tsunade got that seal from Mito. Maybe ! But I need far more informations to agree with this statement.

What do we know ? Orochimaru didn't know this technique when Tsunade released it for the first time in the manga. It's implied that she learnt it after they parted away. In Boruto, Sakura claims that jutsu exists since the age of the sage of six paths. Depends if you consider Boruto canon, but it's still interesting.

And I think it's the only informations we have on the history of that technique. We know very little about the Uzumaki in general.

Is it fair to Karin that Sakura, an "outsider", learnt that technique instead ? Since I don't agree with the idea of it being an Uzumaki technique, I'd say Tsunade does whatever she wants. But if I have to consider that the byakugo is an Uzumaki's technique... then, the answer is the same. Tsunade isn't part of the Uzumaki's clan. Not really. Her name is "Senju". And if Mito decided to teach it to Tsunade, who isn't an Uzumaki, then why isn't Tsunade allowed the same right ? Kushina taught Uzumaki's techniques to Minato. And as far I know, Minato isn't an Uzumaki and wasn't married to Kushina when they started to train in Uzumaki's sealing techniques. Why is it okay for Kushina, but not Tsunade ?

Now... I'm going to be honest, I'm not particularly fond of Sakura. And I like Karin better (I still have to talk about her actually). But I don't think Tsunade wasted her time with Sakura. Sakura became a far better ninja thanks to her training. She progressed a lot as a kunoichi. And in the Gaara retrieval arc, we can see her evolution. In the way she healed Kankuro, in her fight against Sasori alongside Chiyo, her determination and her intelligence. Even in the war arc, she's shown to be able to summon Katsuyu and heal people at distance. And she was able to teach Sarada the secret behind her cherry blossom impact technique. What I'm trying to say is that Tsunade didn't waste her time with Sakura for a simple reason. Sakura became a better kunoichi and a great medical ninja.

As for Karin... I think she would have been a great medic nin too. Maybe better than Sakura. But she already has the mind's eye of the Kagura, the adamantine sealing chains (an incomplete version but still), healing abilities and she's a scientist. Does she really need the byakugo seal to be versatile and special ? Narratively, it isn't necessary. Why would Tsunade take Karin as her student ? Karin isn't part of Konoha and has been taken by Orochimaru. How is Tsunade supposed to know specifically about her ? I'm sure there are very good fanfictions with this idea out there. But in canon, it's hard to imagine.

But it's bit weird... because it's usually Hinata's fans who claim that and wish Hinata was Tsunada's student instead. I didn't know Karin's fans thought that too.

When I say I dislike boruto “filler” I will NEVER mean the (rant post apparently? It just kept going idk)

Kagura/hidden mist/funato clan arc, rogue mitsuki arc, time travel arc and the prison arc

I literally have an oc from the funato clan and the Hōzuki clan💔💔 and I’m a borumitsu shipper so I’m legally required to like the rogue mitsuki arc, the time travel arc is just peak idc and the prison arc I like in general though it does help to have borumitsu moments

This is definitely my uzumaki clan bias but I wish we would’ve seen a bit of crumbs even in the filler just because kishi set it up so long ago and it’s still waiting to be used.

And for some of the boruto official art, someone gotta check the artists hard drive bc why are sarada and chocho drawn like THAT… literal 11-13 yos being drawn in such a weird way. And don’t get me started on how I somehow just found out that eida is 16 IN PART ONE???

Boruto: Tenchijin Chapter One

Summary: After three years, many things have changed and the ninjas are preparing to defend themselves from those who threaten the safety of shinobi world.

"Heyo, can you all see me now?" Kurotsuchi cries, face so close to the monitor her right eye almost touching the camera. Akatsuchi behind her just chewing on his fingernails. Sekki, fifteen, one hundred sixty five centimeters tall, brown haired ninja of light olive complexion, has proved himself to everyone in the village as perserving and steadfest underdog who overcame all the odds to catch fourth tsuchikage's eyes. Kurotsuchi had a thing for Sekki as he complemented her in many ways, and started to train him personally which made Sekki's peers envious of him.

"Tsuchikage-san, it's all pink but i doubt that has anything to do with this software program." Chojuro states, as his bodyguard Misuno nods her head in disappointment. Kagura Karatachi, eighteen, standing at one hundred eighty six centimeters tall alongside Misuno, will soon succeed Chojuro for his skills and might transcend that of his senior. He has earned fame for being one of the most gifted swordsmasters to ever born in kirigakure, inferior only to Mangetsu Hozuki who is revered like a god of swordsmanship arts in shinobi world, an outstanding prodigy who attained perfect mastery over seven mystical swords of mist and all kenjutsu techniques before celebrating his fourteenth birthday.

"Aw man, it's been a while since the last time we had a conference call." Kurotsuchi pulls her head back and clasps her hands behind her neck.

"It's not like we have the chance to do that. These past four years the gokage have been under a great deal of pressure." Gaara asserts. Shinki, standing at one hundred sixty nine centimeters tall and with rather slim frame, who has been promoted to jonin rank in last year's april, is also elected as the fifth kazekage's bodyguard. He has the same stoic and dead expression that he usually wears.

'Bratty and childish. Why would they find this woman to be worthy of taking on the tsuchikage mantle? Did iwagakure hit the bottom and run outta options? Thank god we still have some real competent shinobis who can succeed Gaara as the next kazekage.' Kankuro thinks with his arms folded against his chest, standing three feet away from his adopted nephew.

"I'm aware of the fact that everything has been so dull for a while. But there is so many people terrified of going out as they have heard of Code and his claw grimes army. I assume so many civilians and shinobis who are agitated." Darui states, sounding indolent.

Behind Darui is Omoi, who earned fame after returning to his village for defeating the reanimated Ameyuri Ringo, the most talented female swordmaster in the history of kirigakure who dealt with an unknown terminal disease for years and died at age of seventeen, fourty years before birth of Sarada and Mitsuki.

Yoroi, one hundred seventy three centimeters tall, the genin who suffered a humiliating defeat at hands of Boruto, had to humble himself in order to realize his limits, attained great power and honed his skills. It's been three months since Darui chose Yoroi as his bodyguard and that is why Yoroi is in Raikage's office now.

"It appears that sinister creature can tell what our plans are, which is why we have not captured him yet." Chojuro says.

"If i am not mistaken, Isshiki Otsutsuki didn't possess the ability to foresee the future. It might have something to do with Isshiki's dojutsu." Gaara speculates, touching his chin with his forefinger.

"Wasn't that precognition thing owned by Momoshiki Otsutsuki? If it's true then there's a chance that those two aliens are related." Kurotsuchi theorizes.

"As much as i think that abomination has to be gotten rid of, he is not what we should be focusing on. How many claw grimes are in Code's possession at the moment?" Darui asks.

"Three thousand six hundred eighty. That's just his ordinary claw grimes which capable jonins can take care of them." Ada states, sitting on a chair in a luxurious boutique, as she's gone to shopping mall to buy dresses.

Mitsuki, six feet one inch tall, having let his hair grow long enough to reach his hips and look identical to Mei Terumi's hair, uses a special device invented by Denki Kaminarimon and Sumire Kakei which has the size of a coin although twice as thick. It allows one or multiple individuals to have face-to-face meeting through means of holographic projection.

Daemon wraps his arms around Ada's neck and stares at Mitsuki who doesn't let gokage to look at Ada which bedazzles them as they fall victim to her love charm ability.

"Don't tell me that he has more cards up his sleeves!" Kurotsuchi says, groaning.

"Yeah, there are some mutated claw grimes that awakened rinnegan in their eyes. Those are tremendously strong. Their power level varies but i expect them to give even the kage some trouble. You better be cautious and not underestimate Code's pawns." Ada presumes.

"Do you have anything to share with us, Hokage?" Darui asks.

"I've got more bad news." Konohamaru Sarutobi, the eighth hokage states. "We were tracking Code down for years and finally got to see his blood sample. Mitsuki suspected Code to have blood ties with some of most feared clans in shinobi world. Orochimaru analyzed the blood sample and confirmed that Code is half-uzumaki, half-kazekage." Konohamaru continues.

"Is there a reason to be terrified of this fact?" Gaara asks.

"My parent found out Code has enhanced regeneration speed and healing factor which was dramatically amplified after Isshiki granted him the white karma mark. Code also has access to kazekage clan's kekkei genkai magnet release. I have heard that fourth kazekage developed electromagnet release during his life." Mitsuki states, with calm and cold tone.

"But the fourth kazekage was a super genius on par with yellow flash. Didn't Amado say that Code isn't particularly smart or something along the lines?" Chojuro asks Mitsuki.

"Amado may have misjudged Code's capacity and potential as a warrior." Mitsuki asserts.

"You think so?" Kurotsuchi asks Mitsuki.

"Code proved himself to be a strategist and outsmarted Shikamaru back then when he came to kidnap Amado. It is true that Code is not a true otsutsuki, but he was Isshiki's favourite subordinate for not just the fact that he was loyal but that he was willing to endure indescripable pain if that was all it took to make him more powerful than any other. Isshiki had extremely vast knowledge on the cosmos and according to Kawaki, Code was eager to absorb it all. From history of otsutsuki that Code worshipped to shinjutsu and how it inspired Indra to create foundations of all jutsu that we use today." Mitsuki replies.

"In other words, Code has had enough time to perfect himself and go back to his roots. In order to adapt to the adversaries he despises the most. Code's feat of reshaping ten tails' clones and turning them into his claw grimes speaks of a creative mind and top notch chakra control that is almost on the same level of pure-blooded otsutsuki." Konohamaru states.

"Fortunately, the space-time seals on the civilians will help us drastically reduce causality number. If Code's army invades konoha or any other village, the sensory division will detect the presence of claw grimes and before any harm is inflicted on innocent lives, the space-time ninjutsu users or science squads will transport people to a safe dimension. However, the most powerful of shinobi alliance shall stay to eradicate Code's army. We will find a way to seal away Juubi the instant we gain the opportunity." Mitsuki asserts.

"Is there anyone who is able to go toe to toe with Code?" Chojuro asks.

"Why didn't you introduce me to these weaklings earlier, Konohamaru? I'm afraid they are not aware of the fact that there's not a single person in existence whose strength rivals that of mine, let alone surpass it." Daemon jumps on Mitsuki's shoulder to mock the gokage.

"Code already knows how your attack reflection ability works, he'll come up with a plan to make you busy doing something as he targets Kawaki and Shikamaru-san." Konohamaru replies.

"Not like that implies i can't ruin his plans!" Daemon pouts.

"Kawaki is confident he can take on Code. However, even Kawaki can't defeat Code by himself. No one in this world aside from Daemon have a chance against Code. Code's might far exceeds that of Isshiki. But that doesn't mean Kawaki will be alone when he stands against Code..." Mitsuki says, oozing bloodlust which makes Ada sweat.

"Is there anything else you want to add?" Darui asks.

"Nope." Kurotsuchi says.

"Unfortunately not." Gaara replies.

"No." Chojuro responds.

"I'll update you all on this matter once i gather more data regarding this matter." Konohamaru states.

"Thank you all for your valuable time and consideration. End of the conference call." Darui asserts and taps on the button. "Dull. I feel weird." Darui takes a deep breath.

Everyone else turns off the devices as well, Mitsuki being the last one out of politeness as the youngest person in conference call.

"Code was already much stronger than me before removing his limiters. And now you are telling me that he has kekkei touta? Amado better upgrade me or you'll need more bodyguards." Delta complains, frowning.

"That's why i'm here to assist you, Delta." Houki says, wrapping an arm around Delta's shoulders. "With your death beams and my flying thunder god, we can wipe out entire armies."

Houki, one hundred seventy six centimeters tall with a lean frame, had been promoted to anbu chief rank at age of fourteen. He was protege of Tsubasa for a couple of years and learnt many techniques during that period of time, including second hokage's space-time ninjutsu.

Delta, one hundred sixty centimeters tall wearing high-heel sandals, had been chosen as Konohamaru's bodyguard because of her sharp senses and the fact that she is one of heavy hitters in the shinobi world, her power exceeding that of legendary war heroes Kakashi Hatake and Sakura Haruno by large margin.

"Not Code." Delta states.

"Sassy and grumpy as usual. Be a little more positive." Houki lifts his hands in air, shrugging his shoulders.

"Don't expect me to be delusional." Delta nods, annoyed by Houki.

"This gut feeling has me wondering if Code and Boruto aren't the only ones who want to wreak havoc." Konohamaru says, resting elbows on the desk and locking his fingers and puts his hands against his face.

"As much as i'd like that to be no more than gloomy outlook, i'll be short-sighted if i don't expect more alien invasions after arrival of bunch of otsutsukis in matter of a year." Houki states.

"Everyone must grow far more powerful than they have ever been. I have to surpass all my predecessors and even that will most probably be not enough to save the village." Konohamaru murmurs.

"Hokage-sama." Houki puts a hand on eighth hokage's shoulder. "You are not gonna fight this battle alone. And if we are doomed to die, we will die together."

"I have never heard of such a demotivational speech ever in my life." Delta exclaims, disgusted. Houki sighs and drops his shoulders.

"I will not allow them to steal our future." Konohamaru asserts. "No one is gonna destroy my village. Not on my watch."

"Opposite effect." Delta starts clapping, mocking Houki. "You're not half bad, Kakashi-lite."

"You were supposed to be a good ride until you decided to be hedgehog." Daemon jumps off Mitsuki's shoulders. "These ain't hair no more. They almost prick through my flesh like needles!" Daemon continues as he grabs a strand of Mitsuki's hair with his thumb and index finger.

"You are such a litttle drama king. You know that i am the one who felt all that stinging feeling since your ability prevents anything and anyone from hurting you, be it intentional or not." Mitsuki responds and turns to Ada.

"They knew that handsome hasn't returned back. If he was here, he'd be the first one to join the conference call." Ada presumes, rubbing her neck gently with her right hand.

"Tsubasa-sensei left this world last august. He has never been away for such a long period of time. I'd be bluffing if i said i'm not worried about him." Mitsuki sighs, approaching Ada to stand infront of her.

"Right..." Ada murmurs, squeezing her otherworldly eyes shut.

 

Date:Aug.20th 2041

Ada is in her bedroom, lying on the bed, her back leaning against the headboard, enjoys swallowing the fantasy novel series called 'Children of Chaos'.

The room drowning in a sea of darkness, there's only sea blue light emitting from the reading lamp on the desk placed beside Ada's queen sized bed.

"You never fail to impress me. Volume twenty eight, chapter six, and i'm still in awe of the way you phrase all the words and sentences in such a poetic fashion." Ada murmurs. "I wasn't expecting a company in middle or the night. You have something important to say. Isn't that right, Ace?"

A pair of emerald green eyes shining bright from outside the window. The bearer of those orbs steps inside the room, coming close to Ada with silent and gentle footsteps.

"Time for me to bid farewell." Tsubasa mutters.

"I'll dearly miss you." Ada put her feet on the ground and stands before Tsubasa, needing to look up so she can see her mentor's face.

Tsubasa can't find the right words for a proper response. Ada's eyes lock gazes with his orbs. Tsubasa always supresses his aura that bears overwhelming sorrow and guilt for the dark past he's unwilling to reveal. Ada puzzles about what may have crushed this man's heart. Is it because of his noble duty or has he suffered loss of beloved ones?

"Do you truly believe that you are proud of the path you've chosen?" Ada murmurs, caressing Tsubasa's cheek with back of her forefinger.

"Yeah." Tsubasa whispers, close his eyes at Ada's touch.

"How could you find happiness in this life if you keep walking the same line?" Ada asks Tsubasa, running her fingers through his hair, a behaviour that soon became a hobby as Tsubasa started spending time with his pupils. They find it to be comforting and surprisingly, only Ada has figured that Tsubasa enjoys it when someone treats him in the same tender manner.

"Perhaps a thick cloud of darkness of despair is in my way. But once i reach my goal, everything will be the way i wish them to be. As long as you and those i cherish can live a happy life, nothing else matters." Tsubasa says, grabbing Ada by her right arm gently to pull her close to himself, brushing his lips against her forehead as she presses her soft hands against his toned chest.

Tsubasa absorbs all of her negative emotions with his ability as the last gift he'd give Ada before departure. After mere moments, Tsubasa lets go of Ada and turns around just to have his hand caught by her.

"As honourable as your ideals are, you do have your limits. One day you might meet an adversary that you can't defeat by yourself. Tell me... Who will be your hero?" Ada asks Tsubasa who looks over his left shoulder to have a glimpse at her face which screams for the answers she knows he'll never give her.

"My lord will lend me a hand when all hope seems to be stolen from me." Tsubasa asserts, smiling.

Ada lets go of Tsubasa's hand and wraps her arms around herself, staring at her mentor's back.

"Dream beautifully, moon princess." Tsubasa says and teleports away.

Ada throws herself on the bed and holds the children of chaos book near her heart.

"Why is it so hard for me to be mad at you?" Ada murmurs, then starts chuckling.

 

Date Jan.20th 2042

"It has to be this way..." Ada mutters.

"Yeah, Tsubasa-sensei used to say that." Mitsuki quickly figured who Ada is referring to.

"Hands of fate have scarred his soul in a way that it seems nothing and no one can be a balm for his suffering. Never have i ever seen someone who is so talented and claims to be nothing special. He was always dissatisfied despite being best of the best." Ada says.

"That's depression for you." Daemon utters, bends over and rests his hands on the chair Ada is sitting on.

"He'll be back. I have absolute faith in him." Mitsuki asserts, looking at Ada who reaches for Mitsuki's hand. Mitsuki takes her hand and helps her stand on her feet.

"Who wants to see me try out so many gorgeous dresses?" Ada says loudly with enthusiasm.

"Ada, you make anything you wear look beautiful. Not the other way around." Mitsuki says, smirking.

"You're exaggerating." Daemon pouts and gives Mitsuki a side-eye look.

"Bribing me with compliments. Your kindness knows no bounds." Ada says, playfully punching Mitsuki in arm.

"You deserve it." Mitsuki grins, showing his sharp teeth which Sarada refers to as 'vampire fangs'.

"My god, you two make me wanna vomit." Daemon turns around and folds arms against his chest.

There's No Such Thing As A Normal Morning in Kabukicho Sakata Gintoki x Haruno Sakura (Part VII)

Previous A/N: Just them living the domestic life because why the hell not.

"Phew! Glad that was over," Gintoki sighs. "Come, there's a corner shop nearby," he exclaims, inviting Sakura for a quick walk.

It is still early in the morning but the Edo sun is already starting to feel a little hotter on the skin. It's summer after all, Sakura thought. She looks around to observe the unfamiliar surroundings, carefully trying to figure out where the hell she actually is.

Children are running around in laughter, playing with nothing but sticks and stones. Old people are up early tending to their businesses. The street is starting to feel more and more alive as they stroll.

She thinks of Konoha, her friends... her beloved Sarada.

They passed by a ramen shop that looks like it's just about to open. The sight of it felt awfully nostalgic. Gin notices her expression.

"Everything alright?" The samurai asks, hands behind his head.

"O-of course!" she turns to Gin with a forced smile. "Just thinking of what to cook for the kids," she lies.

"Ahh, they'll be fine with whatever." he replies, sensing her facade. He decides he won't get into it if she doesn't want to.

"The girl is a glutton though. She eats way too much!" he adds.

Sakura looks up trying to suppress her tears. She sees the skies of Edo looking clear and inviting, while a bunch of weird aircrafts hover around a tall structure sticking out from a distance.

It dawned on her that she is undoubtedly far from home. In fact, way too far. Her chest tightens at the thought of it.

Gin hears a quiet sniffle.

"We'll just go with the usual eggs, rice, and some furikake. Hell, maybe we'll throw in bacon for you, too." Gin tries his best to derail whatever's going on with her head.

Sakura didn't respond, still in deep thought. She wonders how she'll get home, or if there is even a way to.

"Which reminds me, we're also low on dog food. Gotta restock on those, too. Have I already mentioned we have a dog? It's actually Kagura-chan's, but of course I'm forced to take care of it," Gin rolls his eyes, ranting.

She stays silent.

"That mutt is big - actually, no - he's huge! Bites like a fucker, too!"

Still no response from the lady.

At this point, he resigns. Gin grabs her by the waist and pulls her closer to his side.

"Oh!" she snaps back to reality.

"Sorry, you were just about to step on a puddle of poop back there." Gin hangs his right arm over her shoulder. "You should stay close to me, ya know?" He leans in to her face. "It's dangerous in Kabukicho. Lots of thugs and poop everywhere," he adds, shaking his head.

Sakura understands what he's trying to do and finally cracks a genuine smile. He catches this at the corner of his eyes and felt relieved.

"Say, Sakata-san," she starts as they continue walking in the same position. "Do you have any idea what happened the night that I got here?"

"What do you mean? I was piss drunk on the counter, enjoying my sake, then the next thing I know you were pounding my face," he answers bitterly.

"No, I mean..." she paused and lets out a chuckle. "I mean, do you actually have any idea how I got here?"

Gin thinks for a second before responding with a flat tone.

"No... "

Looks like this isn't going to be easier than I thought. Inner Sakura panics. We can't be stuck here. We need to go home.

"I see," she replies, visibly defeated.

"Well, do you?" he asks back.

Sakura looks down and shakes her head. Gintoki exhales.

"I guess we can ask the old lady downstairs. She owns the bar you trashed. Prepare your ears for some scolding, though."

"Okay, let's do that," she says under her breath. "Thank you, Sakata-san. I really don't know what's gotten into me that night, let alone how I got here."

"That's fine. Shit happens here all the time," he replies. "And didn't you say you'll make up for it by cooking us a nice breakfast?"

She smiles at him, eyes weary but full of hope.

My god, she's beautiful.

He held her gaze for a second, then breaks it. "We're here," he says, pointing at the humble store beside them.

After grabbing all the ingredients they need, they proceed to the small checkout table near the door where an old lady is painstakingly bagging the paid items one by one.

There is a short line of customers. Gin and Sakura patiently wait in line when they notice what the man in front of them is carrying in his grocery basket.

"Ungodly," Gin remarks, already knowing who the maniac is. Sakura looks at him completely puzzled but he just signals her to keep her voice down.

"That's the police," he whispers in her ear.

"Are we in trouble?" she responds, confused.

"No, of course not."

"Then why are we whispering?"

"I actually don't know," Gin shrugs, still whispering.

"What is he going to do with that much mayonnaise?" Sakura asks with genuine concern.

Gin retches, "You don't wanna know."

"Morning, Yorozuya," Hijikata greets him without turning his head. "I rarely see you this early," he adds.

Caught!

"Oh you know, just doing some groceries.. the usual," Gin fake laughs.

"The kids are finally tired of you bossing them around, eh?" he mocks. "Serves your lazy ass right."

"Shut the fuck up, mayo addict," Gin claps back.

Hijikata glances over his shoulder and sees an unfamiliar woman with a bright pink hair. She looks young and fit, presumably in her early 30s. He took a quick scan of her and noticed Sakura's hand unconsciously pinching the side of Gintoki's yukata. Like a child not wanting to get separated from her mother.

"I don't recognize you, miss... are you new here?"

He looks back at the counter to pay for his mountain of mayonnaise. The old woman starts bagging them one by one.

Sakura caught a glimpse of his face and oddly reminded her of Sasuke. She shakes her head. "No... uh, officer. I'm afraid I don't live around here."

"Are you lost? Have you been kidnapped?" Hijikata interrogates casually as he helps with the bagging.

"Hey! She's with me, dumbass," Gin protests. "No kidnapping involved. Tell him, Haruno-san."

"You are with a dangerous man, miss. You should be careful," Hijikata cuts in with a straight face. "Don't hesitate to run to the station if he starts harassing you, alright?"

"Stop ruining my morning, you corrupt dog!" Gin hisses back.

Sakura chuckles at the two bantering knuckleheads. It seems like they're actually good friends after all.

"Don't worry, officer. I can handle myself just fine," she joins in.

Hijikata grabs his paper bag bursting of mayo bottles and turns to Gintoki's face. "Make sure you bring her home safely or I'll fucking slit your belly," he warned, thinking that she's another innocent woman he coerced to join him with his antics.

Gin stares him down.

"I'll keep an eye on you, Yorozuya," the vice-captain threatens him for the last time before leaving the store.

The two adults walked back in comfortable silence, both hands carrying heavy paper bags full of groceries.

"Bar is still closed," Gin mentions as soon as they arrived, "We'll come back later."

Sakura nods as they went up the stairs.

Gin slides the door open and immediately got his head chewed on. Blood starts dripping all over his face. "We're back," he said flatly. His voice echoed inside the giant dog's mouth.

"Gin-chan! Sadaharu is back!" Kagura runs to the door to greet them. "Hello, pinkette!" she adds, acknowledging Sakura's presence.

"Oy, don't be rude to our guest," Gintoki scolds the girl while as he removes his head from the dog's mouth. "Here, take these to the kitchen."

They both handed Kagura the heavy paper bags and she runs back in, excited for the food. "Shinpachi, they're back!"

"Oh, she's strong," Sakura remarks and Gin smirks.

"You have no idea."

Shinpachi greets them in the living room as soon as he finished sweeping the floor. "Welcome back, Gin-san, and uh..." he pauses, unsure how to address the lady.

"Haruno Sakura," the lady holds her hand out to the boy, inviting a handshake. "Sorry again for earlier," she says, bashful.

"D-don't worry about it, Haruno-san," he shakes her hand back, not knowing what the gesture meant but just kind of went along with it.

"How are the legs?" Gin asks, looking at Sadaharu curling up in a corner. The dog has bandages wrapped around both hind legs.

"The vet says he'll be fine, but..." Shinpachi hesitates. "I'm afraid Sadaharu won't be able to run as fast anymore. Kagura-chan was also advised not to ride him."

"Ehh, he can still walk, he's fine," Gin says dismissively.

Kagura runs back to the living room and tugs on his yukata. "Sadaharu is going to be okay, right, Gin-chan?" Her eyes getting misty.

"Get off of me!" he nags. "I told you not to play too rough with him!"

Sadaharu growls.

"Do you mind if I take a look?" Sakura cuts in.

"Oh, right. You are a doctor," Gin remembers. "By the way, Haruno-san here is a doctor in her town," he explains to the kids. Their faces light up, hopeful.

Sakura sits on the floor and faced the dog. Gin crouches behind her, and the two kids watch them intently.

"Hello, Sadaharu," she starts. "I'm here to help you, okay?"

The expert medic nin inspected the legs first, then worked her way throughout the whole body. She slowly pets the dog until it grows more and more comfortable with her touch.

At the back of her head, this reminds her of the countless times she tended to her sensei's dogs. She silently shakes the memory away so she can focus.

"I can sense a few broken bones there, but it can be fixed," she assures the trio. Kagura grins from ear to ear upon hearing this.

Sakura's hands glow green as she hovers it over the poor dog's legs. Sadaharu whimpers a little, and in a few more seconds, the dog stands up, jumps around, and barks happily.

"There, all done," Sakura smiles, wiping the sweat on her forehead. "And such a good boy, too!" Sadaharu licks her face excitedly, and the trio is stunned with what just happened.

"You're amazing, Haruno-san!" Shinpachi remarks with wide eyes. "How did you do that!"

"Sadaharu!!!" Kagura cries in happiness. "Are you feeling better now, Sadaharu?" she hugs the dog and rubs its chin. "I promise I'll be more careful!"

Gintoki stands up and extends a hand to Sakura. She gets up with his help and their eyes locked in a gaze for a split second.

He's grateful, yet he doesn't know how to tell her. He wants to kiss her right then and there... But maybe not in front of the kids, he thought. Yeah, not in front of these two dorks. He shakes the idea away.

"Kitchen?" he asks, and the lady happily follows.

did you see the scene where Chojuro asks Kagura to be Bolt's opponent on the water. it was one of love and she was looking at only him while Chojuro was talking and Kagura's eyes was on Chojuro, while Bolt had a look of surprise at Kagura then turned to Chojuro before he finished talking, whereas Salad kept her eyes firmly on Kagura with that weird smile.

Yea, and Sarada wasn’t blushing then, hence why most of the fandom think “there’s only one” for her, meaning she’s only blushed around Boruto. But I’ve seen her blush more around girls, I’m pretty sure she is gay.

I think she’s been in love with Boruto since her first appearance and the Nue arc just pushed her feelings and made them more clearer.

Yea, Sumire’s connected to Boruto’s Jōgan through Nue/Gozu Tenno and that’s why he was able to unlock it during her arc.

I’m pretty sure they’re picking the anime back up after a few more chapters of the manga. I won’t be surprised if Kishi makes Boruto end up with Sumire in the manga, yet the animators change it in the anime to Sarada. They’re not far from it, after all.

A little later at the same time:

"Wait Mitsuki!" Sarada calls after him worried. It's useless, he doesn't listen to her. Events have unfolded in the last hour.

It started with Mitsuki's idea to visit Kawaki, who has been living with the Uzomaki's for a few months.

Apparently it wasn't such a good idea after all. Hinata, Boruto's mother received them with concern.

She told both of them , that there was an incident involving Boruto and Kawaki where Boruto was badly injured. In addition, the 7th and Sensei Shikamaru were in mortal danger. Hinata and Himawari weren’t allowed to entrance the institute.

After this shocking news there was no stopping for Mitsuki, "I'll kill HIM!!!" were his alarming words. Sarada, just as shocked and horrified by the news, has since tried to calm her friend down, but with no avail.

Sarada has now caught up with Mitsuki and runs alongside him.

"You don't even know the background of the hole happening, maybe it was Code , who attacked both of them," she tries to rationally fathom what happened.

Or maybe the other side has resurfaced in Boruto after the Code was a massive threat to everyone and Borutoshiki‘s escape only made things a whole lot worse, she thinks and hopes.

If it turns out that Kawaki acted out of sheer malice, she wouldn't know how to handle the situation. But it is not yet the time to make decisions. Right?

Gradually she begins to understand that life as a Hokage also has its downsides. But if you have to take a life to save an entire city, you have to take that step.

Making a sacrifice, however, conforms to her father's way.

On the other hand, she had vowed years ago not to give up on anyone so easily and to save a friend.

"WHAT, Sarada? Isn't it enough that Kawaki pierced Boruto with his ninja technology?” he yells at her emotionally.

Seeing an emotional and tearful Mitsuki breaks Sarada's heart. She puts herself in his shoes and probably would do the same if she were in his place.

"Okay, I won't intervene if it turns out that Kawaki attacked Boruto out of pure malice," she promises Mitsuki.

Her friend looks at her seriously, but says nothing more. She hopes that everything will be fine in the end and worries about her teammates.

At the institute:

" Shikamaru, have you gone insane? You can't just hand Kawaki over to an enemy cyborg like that. What has become of the man who promised to protect the next generation with all his might? Kawaki is also part of the next generation,” Naruto yells angrily at Shikamaru.

"Naruto, do you still not understand our hopeless situation? I'm just trying to protect our families and Konoha. And anyway? How much do we know about the boy?” Shikamaru explained.

"I think to betray him, will only bring him against us more," says Naruto.

Sasuke calmly watches the arguing, "I'll keep an eye out for Kawaki and Boruto until you two are done," and says goodbye. Time mustn't be wasted unnecessarily and that Boruto isn't back yet and that Kawaki has also disappeared, worries him.

Meanwhile, Sarada and Mitsuki arrive at the Institute. Strange, the institute seems deserted..., she thinks. Otherwise there is always a hustle and bustle here.

Both enter it, they go in the direction of the visitors' compartment, where they had visited Boruto in the morning. Mitsuki goes ahead of Sarada. She clearly senses his anger. There must be something she can do!

Surprisingly, a flea-sized Kawaki perches on her shoulder. Her Sharingan suddenly activates and she sees him clearly. WHAT THE?! she thinks and hides him under her top. Now just shut up! she hopes. I try to get you to safety and she suddenly realizes that he is the first to see this very personal glimpse of hers and her face blushes. She sincerely hopes that Mitsuki won't look at her now. He would immediately become suspicious.

" Where is he? Dammit ! He'll pay for doing that to Boruto,” Mitsuki yells angrily.

"Hey Mitsuki, please please calm down. It seems that he is nowhere here. There's no use getting so emotional," Sarada tries to calm him down and distract herself a little.

" WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!" he yells at her, tears welling in his eyes.

"Mitsuki..." seeing her friend like that. Having to face Mitsuki’s nervous breakdown, breaks her heart.

"I understand you, I'm worried too," and holds her hand where Kawaki is right now, "but we have to keep calm and in the end Boruto is still alive."

Mitsuki calms down a bit and thinks about what she said, "You're right. It's so frustrating for me. He is my sun and I want to protect him for everything in the world..."

Sarada walks up to her friend and hugs him, "I know... he will be fine and we'll find him soon..."

Don't you touch me somewhere there!, she thinks of the third person between them and means Kawaki.

Meanwhile, Kawaki sits on her sternum, red as a tomato, finding the situation somehow odd standing between her and Mitsuki. He would rather be alone with Sarada...

Nothing like this has ever happened to him, but it's one of the nicer and funnier experiences he's had in his otherwise so sad life. He clearly hears Mitsuki and Sarada's discussion, knowing that the conversation is about Boruto and him. He understands, that Sarada wants to save his and Mitsuki’s life.

Mitsuki has always seemed a bit strange. He was always watching everything and everyone. Preferably Boruto and Kawaki. And his "you're interesting" didn't make it any easier for Kawaki. But it turned out to be a good one, because Sarada seems much calmer than Mitsuki.

Oddly, he's always worried up until now that she would be the one who would freak out after the Boruto incident last happened.

As soon as time permits, he will have to explain everything to her. He is reassured that she is a reliable friend, maybe the only one. He carefully nestles against her breastbone and feels safe at this moment. He closes his eyes for a moment and listens to her heartbeat in confirmation, Sarada places her hand on Kawaki.

Sasuke overhears Mitsuki and Sarada's conversation. One of his fears has come true, the two have figured out Boruto's and Kawaki's secret, judging by Mitsuki's angry voice in the visitors' compartment, he finds them both too. Disappointingly, he also realizes that there is a third person under Sarada's top.

You two will have to explain that to me! , he thinks. However, he doesn't betray Kawaki, that he doesn't need a fight between two hooligans gone wild right now, from which one of them would most likely die. On top of that, Amado could appear with this cyborg and he doesn't want to use the boy as a pawn.

Sarada looks at her father in shock. She can't fool him. He also sees Kawaki...

Not good... she thinks.

"You two are probably looking for Boruto and Kawaki?" He asks them both and looks sternly at Sarada, who looks shy and caught.

Meanwhile, Mitsuki is highly emotional. Sasuke has never seen Orochimaru's vessel in this condition. He worries about how Mitsuki will react when it comes to Boruto and an outbreak of the Otsutki genes. Then he and Sarada must necessarily act, probably Kawaki would help them in that as well.

"We have to split up! Come Mitsuki! We're looking for Boruto. Don't worry he's fine. And Sarada, you're looking for Kawaki! You're the only other person who has the Sharingan and should be able to track him down," he tells her.

"Okay, dad! Please be careful!” she says worriedly.

"We will!" Sasuke says to her.

Both groups separate. Sarada waits until the other two are out of earshot.

Finally she is alone with him, "it would be better if you don't lie to me and told me immediately what happened," she whispers. Does he hear irritation in her voice?

Kawaki crawls onto her shoulder so that she understands what he says.

"I've never lied to you, Sarada," says Kawaki, a little offended, pondering how to explain all of this, and climbs into her ear so only she can hear him.

" Thanks... for helping me and you should better not talk now. They're after me. I mean Amado and Shikamaru..." and explains the whole story to her with his resurrected Karma Mal, Code, the outbreak of Boorushiki. That Boruto asked for Kawaki to rid him of this monster. His own injury and unconsciousness, to the point that Shikamaru has to team up with a stranger without his consent.

"All I want is to protect Konoha and the 7th," he says earnestly, ending his explanation.

Horrified at what happened, Sarada heads towards the exit with Kawaki to take him to safety. She can't believe that Sensei Shikamaru wants to give Kawaki to a stranger, but she doesn't allow it. Shikadai's father has always been suspicious of Kawaki, which she doesn't understand.

Kawaki is an ass sometimes, but not a liar!

But she is also touched that Kawaki finally has the sense to protect the village and his own home.

You've learned so much and growed, she thinks happily and a small smile forms on her lips, which Kawaki doesn't get to see.

"I promised you. If you need help, I will be there for you and I will not allow you to be handed over to someone else. You are a good friend,” she tells him firmly and softly.

"Sarada..." he breathes into her ear full of admiration, giving her goosebumps.

"Come on, let's go!" she whispers softly.

In front of the institute:

Amado safely brought the two cyborg siblings, Eida and Daemon, to the Science Institute with the help of another of Amado's cyborgs named Koji Kachin.

"You're about to learn the leadership of Konoha, and Kawaki can often be found near the Hokage. The boy feels an obsessive fatherly love for him. I'll put you under Shikamaru and you'll have Delta for backup. Both of them are under your spell now, ”Amado explains to the attractive cyborg, her little brother is still sitting on his shoulders and playing piggyback.

"So I'll work with you," she whispers sweetly. This artificial human is really scary, just like her hyperactive brother.

"It doesn't matter if Code gets hold of him or..." Amado is interrupted when he sees a young girl storming out of the institute and she doesn't pay much attention to the trio.

Eida looks after the young girl, "Tell Amado. Who is this girl?”

Amado looks after Sarada and sees the Uchiha's emblem on her back.

"That must be Sasuke Uchiha's daughter, Sarada . Both are the last descendants of the Uchiha's..." he says thoughtfully.

„Interesting“, said Eida.

"We're here and leave the talking to Shikamaru to me," Amado reminds her. You'll see Kawaki in a moment. When Eida is hearing his name, the cyborg immediately blushes and seems shy again. A strange phenomenon to observe in an artificial human.

At the institute:

The argument between Naruto and Shikamaru has calmed down a bit.

"What should we do with her? I have little faith in that cyborg,” uncomfortable memories with Delta flooded back into Naruto's mind.

"She works for Konoha now. The problem is that she is also under Eida's spell. She's still a useful protection against Code if we can get Eida on our side," Shikamaru muses.

Delta looks unimpressed. All she cares about is seeing Eida again. Oh, it hurts so much not being able to be near her.

Naruto looks at Shikamaru in shock.

"You heard it! Go immediately ! You noticed where they are. You must not come under their influence. You won't be able to defend yourself," Shikamaru explains to him worried.

There's already a knock at the door.

Naruto signals him "Okay" and takes a side entrance and quietly disappears...

The door slowly opens and in the entrance stand Amado, Eida and a little boy no older than Naruto's daughter Himawari.

This is supposed to be the still unknown person that Kawaki has done so? A little boy not more than 10 years old...

Well Shikamaru wouldn't be in this position if he had underestimated his opponents in the past and his intuition tells him that this boy is dead dangerous.

" Amado! I can't believe you survived all of this. We need to talk right away. And Eida! Greetings,” he tells her politely, trying to ignore her influence as much as possible.

Eida smiles seductively at him, " Shika dear! I am happy to see you again. This is my little brother and protector Daemon," she looks over at Delta, "hello Delta darling, I missed you so much..."

Amado rolls his eyes in annoyance at Eida's behavior, although she can't help it and acts according to her nature.

Delta acts like a shy teenager in love, trying to hide her flush with her hands. Oh God! She's back! she thinks.

" He...he..hello Eida...", she says shyly.

Meanwhile, beads of sweat form on Shikamaru's forehead. He knows that Eida is there for the sole reason that she wants to see Kawaki.

However, Sasuke hasn't come back with the boy yet and without him it will be difficult to get Eida on Konoha's side.

Eida looks at him reassuringly, "You're worried about me, Shika dearest. How sweet of you! But do not worry. I know where he is…." She turns to Delta and walks towards her and strokes Delta's cheek with her index finger, "My dear Delta. Would you do me a favor ♡ ?”

Delta's looks into Eida's eyes she could sink and forgets everything around her,

"I would fulfill your every wish...Tell me what you want."

Amado doesn't like the way Eida takes over so quickly, „Eida! It's enough now! Didn't I tell you to let me do the talking?!"

" Don't be so jealous, Amado ♡ . I'll get right back to you," Eida turns back to Delta, "you know I want to see my Kawaki. But he's not here, he's with a young girl. Her name is Sarada. She is easy to spot. She wears black short hair, red glasses and red clothes. Take care of her, I don't want to have to share Kawaki with anyone. "

"I will find her, dear Eida," Delta tells her, oblivious to other orders along the way.

Shikamaru's alarm bells are ringing. Shocked to hear what order Eida just gave to Delta, Shikamaru speaks up, "What are you trying to say? Leave the Uchiha's daughter out of the game. She has nothing to do with it..."

"Oh, she's very involved with everything here. But that doesn't have to bother you anymore, Shika-dear ...", she breathes menacingly, "Daemon, be so kind and take care of him..."

Fourth War Casualties

New Konoha

Hello Boruto fandom, Never once watched Boruto, never even got past the Kazekage Rescue Arc, personally I think Ikemoto is a bit off his rocker because- how in the world did you manage to make this world even MORE sexist but y'know

so I'm having fun with what i would have liked to see in the next gen, as an original fan, and I am desperately trying to get rid of the ninja brainworms that have gripped me before workflow picks back up. (I'm actually going crazy on Milanotes)

I did some other rough brainstorming in the past and this is kinda building off that: Boruto Hinata

Thoughts:

It strikes me as really odd, for how catastrophic and world-ending the fourth war was, that there were seemingly no major repercussions or casualties. That's just not realistic to me. More than one main character should've died. It gives more emotional weight to someone like Kiba, who doesn't have any big role beyond the War, and thus gives his character a purpose that isn't just "Im gonna be Hokage #57" (KANKURO IS ALIVE I AM SO SORRY KANKURO )

The front lines weren't the only places being targeted, villages and safe houses were under siege, resulting in countless civilian, genin, and chunin deaths.

Mei stays Mizukage instead of that spineless, random guy.

I have some ideas for the injuries that the "crippling wounds" category sustains, but it's important to mention that "crippling" only means "not fit for active shinobi duty" since that's the bread and butter job of ninja society, so the severity of the injuries varies greatly.

I'm also aware that medical ninjutsu is like a magic eraser when it comes to stuff like that, but I rationalize that medics were more concerned about helping their patients survive rather than making sure their patients will be able to fully recover. Everyone in the injured category went too long without the proper surgery because they wanted civilians and lower ranks to have access first. Even then, the medical team was stretched extremely thin, so- consequences.

Retired: again, in context of "retired from shinobi duty". Majority still have active jobs. Alongside T&I, Ino still runs her flower shop; Tenten sets up a weapons shop right next to it; Shizune is the volunteer hospital head, meaning she doesn't get paid much, and tutors/helps/does paperwork (Sakura is a top medic who occasionally visits for emergencies- she's mostly busy with medical-related missions); Kurenai and The Boys™ teach at the academy; Karui's teammate, Omoi, moved with her to Konoha and he is now the best babysitter in town- though really he mostly looks after Chōchō and Shikadai when their parents are busy. He lives with Karui and her family, they're like siblings.

Konohamaru, Moegi, and Udon were all trained under Naruto during the blank period. However, Moegi was the only one able to reach her full potential because she managed to escape the War with no major wounds. She is now currently stronger than Canon Konohamaru Sensei was.

Nara Shikamaru & Nara Temari

Akimichi Choji & Akimichi Karui

Yamanaka Ino & Yamanaka Sai

Uchiha Sasuke & Haruno Sakura

Shinki, Mitsuki, and Kagura were all part of a Transfer Student Project. All willingly went, All are now full citizens.

I really didn't see Metal or any of the other evicted teammates serving a purpose to the Narrative.. Maybe Metal still exists in the future, the others I do not care about I'm sorry.

I just fucking hate Inojin

Kawaki was adopted when Boruto was around one (1) and a half. Himawari wasn't conceived yet.
