Big Sur

A Fascinating ‘intergalactic’ journey into Pinot Noir and Chardonnay last night at Gravenstein Grill with Christopher Sawyer.

First, thank you Chris for organizing what was certainly a highlight, if not “the” inspirational tasting of 2023!

It wasn’t simply because of the excellence of the wines being served (by the likes of Martinelli Winery & Vineyards, Davis Bynum Winery, Clarice Wine Company, +++), but the showcasing of Sonoma’s best along with selected wines from Santa Lucia Highlands and others.

The storied history and legacy was palpable only to be overwhelmed by the aromatic intensity of Cherries, Rhubarb, and the elegance of fine French Cooperage among California’s finest Pinot’s.

Mingling this ‘lignified’ atmosphere with ripe d’anjou pear, Gravenstein & Golden Delicious apples, conversations were familial, rich, fun, and stimulating.

Topping it off, the lifted allure of sweet vanillin from lightly oaked terroir driven Chardonnays influenced an overall therapeutic atmosphere of the evening, the best description likened to aromatherapy……just simply breathing it in was exhilarating.

Very few experiences have I celebrated in which the best of both winemaking capabilities and trophied leaders in the wine community joined together in one place, almost as though it was a gathering in the elation of a heavenly afterlife.

Accenting the raw magnetic draw of the evening was the soft initiating influence from Mr. Sawyer’s passionate texts and emails, inviting us all to, and guaranteeing “A Night To Remember”.

And that it was.�
