Created in 2005 by the Union International des Architects (UIA), World Architecture Day is a day to show appreciation for the work architects do and to celebrate some of the great global architectural works.

Architecture is incredibly important and architects have the potential to shape all of our lives through their hard work. In addition, architecture plays an essential role in planning for the future, sustaining population growth and tackling a number of social problems.

Events are held in different locations every year, bringing architects, engineers, planners, and developers together to showcase their work, discuss future projects, debate current issues and plan new business ventures. So if you work in the industry, why not go along and join in?

It has been inspired by church steeples, with eight-angled glass decades coming together to create the structure, which reflects the sky and city surrounding it.

In Beijing, the Linked Hybrid is another fascinating and impressive architectural structure. It was built in 2009 and designed by Steven Holl Architects. In Singapore, there is the Gardens by the Bay, which was deemed Building of the Year in 2012 by the World Architecture Festival. In 2010, Burj Khalifa was constructed in Dubai. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill are responsible for this amazing creation, which boasts the most stunning and sleek silhouette, which is wrapped in a glass curtain wall. Or, what about Iceland’s HARPA Concert Hall and Conference Center? This building boasts a kaleidoscopic façade of multicolor glass. Artist OLafur Eliasson conceived the crystalline shell that beautifully complements the structure’s aggregate of geometric, jagged volumes.

You can also celebrate World Architecture Day by finding out whether there are any activities and events going on in your local area. There are a lot of different exhibitions, panel discussions, and conferences that tend to go on around the world on World Architecture Day.
