@sandraharissa I’m hearing you; I just want to make mention that when Silco, Felicia, and Vander were young the war between Zaun and Piltover had not begun. It was on the brink of war and a revolution was brewing. I think Jinx’s world and her place in it are proof of the upheaval Silco and Vander created. Jinx is a result of post-revolution-Zaun and its turmoil.

Also, Jinx and Silco individually have their own issues— like most youths— but Jinx’s character has always indicated some type of condition, like schizophrenia or something, that then was exacerbated by the trauma of being separated from her sister and Vander. Silco was just a young kid raised by the streets, but mentally stable; it was the betrayal of Vander that made him snap. Silco is the classic villain archetype; whereas Jinx I think may have been ill her whole upbringing. Both have overarching similarities but are not the same. Both Silco and Jinx are extremely sympathetic characters with depth and good qualities, despite their actions of survival in a merciless environment.

What I find so funny about the way they chose to portray young Silco is how they made him, like, a cool guy?

He looks great, the conversation implies that he and Vander are equally loved and popular, he seems chill and has a sense of humor, seems very comfortable and confident, he hangs out with Vander and Felicia, and even tho I don't like her her+Vander+Silco are all portrayed as good-looking and rad, all of it conveys that Silco is one of the cool kids on the block asdfghhgfd I mean look at him

They clearly did that partially to create striking similarities between young Silco and Jinx, the causal punk vibe, the swag, the bang, they even gave Silco a little bit of a v neck.

But that just creates this impression that young Silco was hot and popular and successful as a contrast to teen Jinx, who has no friends, only talks to her dad or to herself and can't do a single thing right. Like, it feels like teen Silco was going to raves but teen Jinx either goes with her elderly dad on walks to the trauma river so he can rant at her or is in her womancave in her dad's basement.

It's so funny. Silco's over there being successful his whole life, as it turns out, with his loser daughter Jinx being a complete gremlin and not popular AT ALL that he loves very much despite that. Like he could never even tell her 'I also was embarrassing when I was your age dw it gets better' cos he was not asdfghjgfds instead he'd need to be like 'I was the coolest guy in the room so I can't relate sorry but love you anyway, my disaster'

Thoughts on the dad war, vanco(as in their canon portrayal or the ship if you even have any opinion), benzo (I’m talking about the old man trio dynamic and whether you think benzo/ekko was comparable to silco/jinx and vander/vi, he just seemed like his intern to me but ekko's clearly the benzo 'prodigy', forming a new trio with vi and jinx), just in general the dad backstory TM, whether you wanna see it or not and whether you’d be available for setting riot games offices on fire with me if they don’t show it, s2 predictions, if you could canonize one ship or dynamic (like viktor and jinx friendship) what would it be? (obvs you don’t have to answer all of it sorry)

Oooo okay here I go:

Dad war: Honestly such a clusterfuck. It's hilarious to me.

Vander first attacks Silco by attempted murder. Silco takes years to gain his troops. Silco comes back in a "Thought you've seen that last of me bitch." style and fucking wrecks Benzo, kidnaps Vander and traumatizes two kids. However, he doesn't even kill Vander right away and gives him a choice to join his side again and Vander refuses (lmao sucks to be you Silco). The night ends in blowing up in their faces (no no don't kill me for this joke) and Vander fucking dies. Silco takes in one of Vander's girls and spends years telling her what a shitbag Vander was (while also letting a statue of Vander stay up lol I wonder what goes on in Silco's mind sometimes.)

Then years later, Silco gets the "oh fuck I understand him now" moment at the statue, getting drunk and depressed like the little bitch he is and fucking goes out the same way he does. So in the dad war I think Vander won in the end (also he comes back to life which I doubt Silco will ahhahaha).

Vanco: I'm personally a bit torn on this ship. Like on one hand I like to refer to them being brother-in-arms with no romantic relationship (also parallels on Vander/Silco and Vi/Jinx are the shit I eat everyday). On the other I also read fanfics on this ship and I'm down for the scenerio of them co-parenting the kids. I do hope that the show won't make it seem like they did have a romantic relationship but I also enjoy the fan content on the ship. Either way you swing it, the way their relationship ended up makes me so fucking depressed like wtf??? The angst is real. The pain is on a whole nother level. I can't get over it.

Old man trio and their kids: I do think there are similarities with Benzo/Ekko just like Vander/Vi Silco/Jinx. Benzo and Ekko obviously have their major issues with Silco and Jinx. Ekko, like Benzo, chooses the older sibling of the trio.

Lmao I really need to know what made Benzo hate Silco so much cause like Ekko does have his reasons but even he hesitated to kill Jinx off (which I know Benzo wouldn't do for Silco). Personally, I wonder how Ekko would take to Vi becoming an enforcer in Arcane (in League he does call Vi a sellout lmao)

Dad backstory: I NEED THIS BACKSTORY. I NEED TO KNOW HOW VANDER/SILCO/BENZO RELATIONSHIP WAS. I NEED TO KNOW HOW CLOSE VANDER AND SILCO WAS THAT SILCO FELT THE NEED TO KEEP A STATUE OF HIM. I NEED TO KNOW WHY THE BETRAYAL HAPPENED. I WILL JOIN YOU TO BURN RIOT DOWN IF WE DON'T GET ANY BACKSTORY.

What dynamic would I like to canonize: I would absoluetely love a Jinx and Viktor friendship of them fucking shit up like the maniacs they're gonna be in S2. I also would love to see a Jayce and Vi friendship and them bonding over their similarites (though that is probably much less likely considering their last interaction and if things go really bad in S2).

S2 predictions: Honestly I hope that we do get some insight as to what happened during the timeskip. Like maybe Vi could have a nightmare about her time in prison, Jinx remembers her time with Silco as she grieves for him, etc.

I know this is a slightly older post (okay I looked it up, only about a month, but I forgot about it!) but I guess I’ll agree with Avengers, in that it’s a very detailed plan with a lot of pieces falling into one another.

I just still think that Thor 1 Loki is reacting rather than acting. It’s just a headcanon, of course, it’s just the way I interpret some of the lines/face acting. (The ‘we were never meant to make it to Jotunheim’ and the surprised look on his face when they gave him the throne.) I interpret his plan in Thor 1 as originally being: interrupt Thor’s coronation, make him angry/reckless, Thor tries to invade Jotunheim, the guards stop them, Odin yells, Thor’s coronation is indefinitely suspended, Loki’s the favored son for a while because he was being responsible and preventing war with Jotunheim, profit.

And then a bunch of things happen that he couldn’t see coming (the revelation of his adoption, the severity of Thor’s punishment) and the plans kind of spin out from there. (’Thor’s going to kill me once he knows what I am, best keep him on Earth / I have the throne now, I can be safe if I eliminate Thor and be safe / if I destroy Jotunheim that will prove I’m truly Asgardian / oops Thor’s back now I’m just crying and physically fighting him / ah my plans are literally falling into a Void and my Father is telling me I’ll never be enough, guess I should just let go and kill myself then’).

I also tend to headcanon that Loki’s doesn’t really exactly have everything so thought out, more than he last like...dozens of plans going and discards/adapts his plans as needed. Some of them are better than others. The more panicked he gets in Thor 1, the more wild the plans get. (Destroying a planet using the bifrost is like...a really dramatic move. There were probably dozens of less drastic plans, but Loki’s spiraling so he blows past them all and ends up straight at that.)

Anyway! It’s just my personal headcanon, obviously people can think differently but *shrug* just my interpretation! :-) It certainly informs how I write, but no interpretation is necessarily 100% correct.

I don’t mind this ship, it being problematic is not an issue at all, you can ship whatever you want, but I don’t understand where the ‘it’s absolutely canon’ comes from and why are some people intent on making everyone else accept it as canon too

I don't mind people shipping it either; a lot of people (including a lot of people on that thread...) think shipping Thorki is fucked up, and I still do it. I don't have a problem with people shipping unhealthy relationships; even if I side-eye the ship (like, e.g., Jessica Jones x Killgrave, which I'm pretty sure is shipped exclusively by people who can't see David Tennant as anything other than the 10th Doctor), I'm committed to people's right to ship without harassment.

My problem is specifically the way that the implied relationship is presented in the movie: as laughable; as yet another opportunity to mock Loki. Whether or not the ship "is canon" may be vague, since (as I said) it's only subtext and is never made text. But as with most cases of queer-baiting, the subtext is obvious enough that they're pretty clearly expecting a lot of people to pick up on it. And I do think that a work and its creators can be held responsible for the things they strongly imply, even if they don't come out and say them.

Insp: meta by @sandraharissa​

Following are some of my own musings regarding this scene which is in no way essential to enjoy/ comprehend  the gifset:

Before having read sandraharissa’s meta on the above scene, I used to get blue in the face with frustration over how Vi’s last comforting (It’s okay) words had no calming effect on Jinx. Because, years ago wasn’t Silco, the literal guy who was about to murder all of Jinx’s family, able to start winning her over with these EXACT same words???? 

Silco comforted her after Jinx did his job for him by inadvertently killing her family. Years later it seems history repeated itself when Jinx granted Vi’s wish of getting Silco out of Jinx’s life by inadvertently killing him. Yet when Vi, by coincidence, tried to comfort Jinx using the exact same words Silco used on her all those years ago, it doesn’t work? In fact, it backfires? What the hell is going on here?? 

I think it all sums up to how Jinx always put Vi on a pedestal and saw their sisterhood as one-sided (And worst of all, for me to live, I gotta kill the part of me that saw that I needed you more) and how Silco was able to establish himself and jinx as equals. Let’s backtrack. 

I think we all agree that while Jinx loved Vi very much she was always down thinking of herself as a burden to her and her family. The council archives transcripts shine some light on Jinx’s perception of Vi and their relationship. As far as Jinx is concerned, she always failed in ways that mattered and suspected Vi of secretly resenting her. It didn’t matter that Vi made sure she had enough chance to practice her fighting skills out in the field so to speak, what mattered is with Vi she always screwed up. All this and coupled with Milo’s incessant bullying along with Claggor and Vander’s apparent indifference made her think that they weren’t a family after all. 

However, being with Silco seemed to change everything. Not only was Jinx able to make impressive bombs/ gadgets and weapons, but she was also able to make herself into a formidable fighter who Silco relied upon. Silco trusted her enough to make her an integral part of his operation. If Sevika and Marcus’ words were to be believed then yes, she still kept screwing up. However, this time her accomplishments were enough for her to not let her failures weigh her down completely. In addition, Silco had years to open up to her and convince her of how similar they were. Perhaps it irritated Jinx but it had its intended effect. Jinx believed that she and Silco were broken in the same way and she was loved and trusted by him. Besides, he had all those years to show her how he was there for her while Vi was not. In the end, Jinx ended up mistakenly believing that Silco, with the help of Marcus, kept Vi and her apart by locking her up in Stillwater. She also stopped believing that Vi abandoned her because she identified all the times Silco said so as him manipulating her. Lastly, she blamed him for taking everything away from Vi and her. 

“He took everything from us. Right here, he stabbed Vander in the back. Just like he planned to do with me. ll the time saying you abandoned me when he knew the truth. Liar.” 

I don’t know if Silco’s death and last reassuring words made her drop any of these beliefs but I think Jinx still had a soft spot for him because she associates all her accomplishments with being with him. 

On the other hand, although Vi came back into her life, she never showed any signs of accepting her present self of Jinx. Look, I KNOW they barely had time to interact, let alone have any time to have a proper heart-to-heart to be on the same page. However, in the end, Jinx thought that she had enough evidence to see that Vi has changed too much to accept the changes within her. While I am glad to see that unlike years ago, she isn’t going to settle for jumping into the arms of anyone who will console her and try to fit into their life, it still hurts, you know? Especially when you think hard enough you realize that Silco would have never wanted to blow up Piltover and openly initiate an all-out civil war. If I was able to understand Silco, then I think he would have used fishbones as a deterrence like many nations in our world uses nuclear weapons intending to dissuade their enemies from attacking them. Sure, he hated Piltover and his hatred ran way deeper than that of Jinx’s, but he was much more strategic and took any step only after weighing the possible consequences. 

Back to Jinx and Vi. She thinks Silco’s death would have finally freed his and Jinx’s grip on her Powder. Oh, how wrong she was. Anyway, you all know how little time she had to process Jinx’s transformation yada yada yada but I think for now Jinx has decided that no words will ever make them how they used to be. On the other hand, I think it will take Vi years and years to acknowledge the positive roles Silco played in her sister’s life. Or she may never understand how Jinx could ever have a soft spot for him. On a different but related note, Jinx’s resentment for Caitlyn will only go up from now on. 

So, lots of drama to look forward to in Season 02 I guess. Will JInx ever realize that like her and Silco, Vi is just as broken? Will she realize that since she has become Vi’s equal in her combat abilities and perhaps even surpassed her, she doesn’t need Vi the way she used to anymore?

Last song: Shrike - Hozier

Hozier has been my favorite artist for the past... Five years? His music resonates with me like no other. The album "Wasteland, baby!" was a huge comfort for me during COVID, and now "Unreal Unearth" is pretty much the same. Suffice to say he released it when I needed it the most. He's a wonderful lyricist (one of the best of our generation imo) and his vocals... I just adore him.

Favorite color: Red

Any shade of red. It's been my favorite color since the 7th grade and for some reason I just stuck with it. Though I did have a phase where green was my favorite, then purple... Anywho, nothing compares to red. I even dyed my hair that color :)

Last movie: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Okay, I don't actually remember which movie I watched last (I don't watch movies that often) but I'm guessing it's this one. Catching Fire is the best adaptation of the Hunger Games books. The cinematography is on an entirely different level here, compared to that of the first movie, and with the introduction of the past Victors in the 3rd Quarter Quell, it's just all incredibly exciting. The setting of the movies is chillingly reminiscent of our world, and as someone who lived in Russia for 6 years - it's downright creepy realising how much of my life, at some point, was actually not normal looking back.

Suzanne Collins is an amazing writer. Not much else to say.

I'm a bit similar to you in this! I can't handle spicy food (only to some degree, really) and sweet stuff easily makes me feel sick if I have too much of it. I'm really picky with that :)

I've been dating my girlfriend for a little over a year now...? After discovering my sexuality back in 2020 (during the quarantine, when I had the opportunity to think about myself properly without any distractions) I met her and everything changed for me. I immediately developed a crush on her and kept it secret for... What, two and a half years? Then I cracked and confessed one night and we've been dating ever since. She's the only person in my life who I've felt so connected to, and seeing as I'm really introverted and generally prefer to be alone, this is quite the achievement. I've never had the feeling that I couldn't live my life without someone, but with her, it's all very different.

Quarantine Q&A

Are you staying home from work/school? Yes - I work at a library and for a little while the staff was still going in (there are only 7 of us) to do some deep cleaning and other projects that would be hard to get done while we were open, but halfway through the week before last the mayor decided to completely close all non-essential city departments. So now we’re all home but luckily they decided to still pay us for just under our normal hours (supposedly until we reopen) since we all took home some projects to do (I took four boxes of books home that need repaired, for instance) and we’re all planning on watching a bunch of training webinars. I feel really fortunate with my job tbh because since we’re all part-time except for the director, there was no guarantee the city would still let us work. As for school I’m online anyway, so nothing changed there. 

If you’re staying home, who’s there with you? My immediate family who I live with - so my mom, my dad, and my younger brother. On one hand it’s kind of nice to not be completely isolated, but on the other...I usually get the house to myself for a few hours a couple of days a week, so I’m definitely missing that. 

Are you a homebody? A huge one, so honestly things aren’t much different than usual other than not going to work and having more people in the house more often.

What movies have you watched recently? The other night my parents and I watched a movie from the 90s my co-worker recommended called The Love Letter. It was interesting and kind of fun, not exactly the best movie I’ve ever seen, but it had some surprise queerness at the end, which was very nice and unexpected. Ironically, Ellen DeGeneres is in it but she is not one of the queer characters. Also I recently finished watching “I Am Not Okay With This” on Netflix, which is technically a tv series, but is very good and also queer. I’m currently watching a movie called The Love Witch, which I have mixed feelings about so far - in part because for a number of reasons it feels like it should be queer but isn’t. 

An event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled? Not a specific event, exactly, but I’d been planning on going to some events put on by the LGBTQ+ group at a university somewhat close to where I live (about an hour away). Apparently some of the events are open to the public and I was hoping to go to some and potentially make some queer friends (which is really hard to do where I live). So that’s not happening for a while. I’m also not sure how this is going to impact Pride? I was hoping to go for the first time this year but I don’t know what will be happening come June. 

What music are you listening to? A mix of various lesbian-y songs, Hozier, Florence and the Machine, Aimee Mann, and Of Monsters and Men (in other words, my usual). 

What are you reading? I recently finished Loki: Where Mischief Lies by Mackenzi Lee, which I enjoyed...I’m also in the middle of a nonfiction book called Real Queer America: LGBT Stories from Red States by Samantha Allen. A couple of books I’m thinking of starting are a YA novel called Orpheus Girl by (which deals with lesbian teens going through conversion therapy and looks pretty emotional and dark) and a much more lighthearted graphic novel called Kim Reaper by Sarah Graley (which is about two girls who fall in love and one of them happens to work part-time as a grim reaper. It looks extremely cute). As for fanfic, currently reading A Graveyard of Stars by @iamanartichoke which I strongly recommend. 

What are you doing for self-care? I want to do some art stuff but haven’t yet - hoping to possibly play around with watercolors a bit or maybe finally do some Loki fanart? Also, I’ve been hanging out with my pets a lot. I feel extremely lucky to live in a rural environment with a bunch of animals right now. Playing with baby goats is fantastic for self-care - 11/10 would recommend.
