Alden at the beach (mostly because he doesn’t strike me as a beach guy….)
Tagging: @kmc1989 @sarakafarrah @caffeinatedwoman @elefrog25-blog @writeandsurvive
Companion piece to The Secret and All The Federales Say...
Trigger warning for loss of a child
The morning after Alden tells you about Bonnie the two of you take a few days off to recalibrate. You book the beach house in Portland where the two of you spent your honeymoon because you remember how soothing Alden had found it, falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
You can tell the loss is finally starting to hit him, he’s quieter, more reserved. You often wake up alone in the mornings, the sheets cool to your touch. When you do go in search of him, you find him sitting on the sand outside, lost in thought as he stares out across the sea.
That night the two of you make a bonfire on the beach, you sip wine as his gaze fixates on the flames and he finally begins to open up about the daughter he lost. He tells you about the day Bonnie was born, the joy he felt the first time he held her, the hours he spent in a steamy bathroom, running the shower when she had colic.
It’s cathartic for him, talking about Bonnie. For the first time since it happened he’s allowing himself to mourn his child, to finally lay her to rest. He can’t express how much that means to him, that you’ve given him the time and the space to come to terms with the accident. You knew exactly what he needed, even when he didn’t.
“I understand why you brought me here now.” He says softly as he takes the hairclip out of his wallet and sets it down on the sand.
His real life is full of distractions, the cases, the hobbies, they were all a way of coping with this loss, avoiding it. They’re the habits he’s built to protect himself in the aftermath of something so horrific he could never bare to face it. The problem is when you build up those walls, it’s hard to tear them down, to break the pattern.
Here on this beach, he has to confront his past and come to terms with it, because the only way to move on, is to let go and that’s what he does when he digs a small hole with his hands in the sand.
He picks up the hairclip, the one his daughter was wearing the day of the crash and he places it carefully inside before he buries it. A weight loosens in his chest and it feels like he can breathe again after all these years of suffocating underneath it.
“Thank you.” He says, his gaze flickering up to meet yours. “Thank you for always knowing exactly what I need.”

Kidney Stones: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments.
Before one would understand what kidney stones is as one needs to know the function of the kidney. The kidney is a vital organ of the body. It is responsible for functions relating to the filtration of the blood and makes urine and this removing the waste form the body. In case, the kidney stops to work the waste would not be disposed off from the click here to learn more body and hence, there would be concerns as the waste is not taken care off.
In the urine there are chemicals and at times these chemicals get together and for small stones or particles. These particles would not be bigger than a sand particle. But, over the period of time these would get accumulated to turn into kidney stones. Till the time these stones would be there in the kidney, it would not be a concern, however, when it gets to the ureter, which is the tube that joins the kidney with the bladder, it poses concerns. The stone would act like a dam and would create pressure and thus the person would feel the pain. Clearly, more than the size of the kidney stones, it is the location of the same which would cause problems and would need medical attention.
The causes of kidney stones may vary from person to person. One of the causes is heredity. As your biological parents have or had kidney stones, would make you more prone to have these as well. At the same time the geographical location that a person is living at would be the cause of kidney stones. Like for example, Americans living in the southern region of the country are more likely to have kidney stones. This would be because of hot climate and less than required intake of water. Diet is another reason for people to develop kidney stones. The kidney stones would have a lot of calcium deposits. Thus, foods rich in calcium when one is prone to kidney stones would accelerate the process of building these kidney stones. Certain medications also lead to the development of these as well or there could be some underlined illness to kidney stones as well.
As mentioned the ureter is blocked by these kidney stones which would act as a dam. The body would create waves to take care of this obstruction and these would cause pain. These pain waves are called colic. The person having kidney stones would feel intense pain which would be wax and wane but there would be a persistent ache underlying. When in pain it would be very difficult for the person to get in a comfortable posture. Vomiting, nausea and sweating would be common signs. People might see blood while urinating.

on sunday afternoon one of our old ponies, Dallas, coliced and my mom and my aunt took her down to the equine hospital. they diagnosed her with a mild sand impaction and kept her overnight to give her fluids but her bloodwork was looking worse, not better by the next morning and they had to put her down yesterday. i didn't really get a chance to sit down and process it until the end of the day bc i was busy focusing on babysitting my nephew so all the emotion is just really sinking in today.
i wasn't particularly closely bonded with this pony but it still sucks to hear when we've lost any animal and it hurts a lot knowing that the next time i get to go to the ranch she won't be there anymore to say hi 💔

Treatment for Bile Duct Without Surgery: How Endoscopy Can Help
Gallstones are a common yet often painful condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Traditionally, surgery has been the go-to solution for gallstone removal, particularly through a procedure known as a cholecystectomy, where the gallbladder is removed. However, not everyone is eager to undergo surgery or may not qualify for it due to underlying health issues. Fortunately, advancements in medical technology have introduced non-surgical options, such as endoscopy, which can effectively treat gallstones while preserving the gallbladder.
In this blog, experts from the best hospital in Surat — SIDS Hospital — explain how gallstones form, why endoscopic procedures are a game-changer, and what patients can expect from this minimally invasive approach.
What Are Gallstones, and Why Do They Form?
Gallstones are hardened deposits that develop in the gallbladder, a small organ located beneath the liver. The gallbladder stores bile, a digestive fluid that helps break down fats. Gallstones form when substances in bile, such as cholesterol or bilirubin, crystallize. These stones can vary in size, from as small as a grain of sand to as large as a golf ball.
The exact cause of gallstone formation isn’t always clear, but certain risk factors increase susceptibility, including:
● Diet high in fats and cholesterol
● Obesity or rapid weight loss
● Family history of gallstones
● Age (more common in individuals over 40)
● Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or liver disease
Gallstones can sometimes remain symptomless, but when they block bile flow, they cause severe pain (biliary colic), nausea, and digestive discomfort. In more serious cases, the best gastroenterologists in Surat warn, they can lead to infections or inflammation, requiring urgent treatment.
Traditional Treatments vs. Endoscopic Approaches
For decades, gallstone treatment revolved around surgery, particularly gallbladder removal. While effective, surgery isn’t always ideal. Some patients may have medical conditions that make surgical risks too high, while others might simply prefer non-invasive alternatives.
This is where endoscopy comes into play. Endoscopic procedures, particularly Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), offer a non-surgical solution for addressing gallstones. Unlike surgery, which involves removing the gallbladder, ERCP focuses on treating stones in the bile ducts while leaving the gallbladder intact.
How Endoscopy Works for Gallstone Treatment
Endoscopy involves using a long, flexible tube equipped with a camera and light, which is inserted through the mouth and guided down to the digestive tract. During an ERCP procedure, doctors can locate and remove gallstones from the bile ducts. Here’s how it typically works:
Imaging and Diagnosis: Using X-rays and dye, the physician identifies the exact location of the gallstones in the bile ducts.
Stone Removal: Specialized instruments attached to the endoscope help retrieve the stones or break them into smaller pieces, allowing them to pass naturally.
Stent Placement (if needed): If the bile duct is damaged or inflamed, the doctor may place a temporary stent to ensure proper bile drainage.
At SIDS hospital, one of the best gastro hospital in Surat, the procedure typically takes about an hour, and patients often return home the same day or after a short observation period.
Advantages of Endoscopic Treatment
Endoscopy offers several benefits over traditional surgery:
Minimally Invasive: Unlike surgery, which requires incisions, endoscopy is performed through natural openings, significantly reducing recovery time.
Preserves the Gallbladder: Many patients prefer to keep their gallbladder intact, and endoscopy allows that.
Quicker Recovery: Most people resume normal activities within a few days, compared to weeks of downtime with surgery.
Fewer Risks: Endoscopy avoids the complications associated with general anesthesia and surgical wounds.
Effective for High-Risk Patients: Individuals with health conditions that make surgery unsafe can still benefit from endoscopic procedures.
Who Is a Candidate for Endoscopic Treatment?
Endoscopic treatment is particularly effective for patients whose gallstones are located in the bile ducts rather than the gallbladder itself. It is also suitable for individuals experiencing complications like blocked ducts, pancreatitis, or infections caused by gallstones. However, it’s important to note that endoscopy may not work for everyone. Patients with multiple or large stones in the gallbladder may still require surgery.
Preparing for an ERCP Procedure
If your doctor recommends endoscopy, proper preparation ensures a smooth experience. You’ll likely need to fast for several hours before the procedure to keep your stomach empty. Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, allergies, or medical conditions to avoid complications.
The procedure is performed under sedation or light anesthesia at any of the hospitals that provides the best laparoscopy surgery in Surat. You’ll need someone to drive you home afterward. Follow any post-procedure instructions carefully, such as dietary restrictions or activity limitations, to ensure optimal recovery.
Final Thoughts
Gallstones can be disruptive to your daily life, but you don’t always have to resort to surgery to find relief. Endoscopy offers a minimally invasive, gallbladder-preserving option that can effectively treat gallstones in many cases. If you’re experiencing symptoms or looking for alternatives to surgery, consult a specialist at one of the best gastro hospital in Surat to determine whether endoscopic treatment is right for you.
With innovative tools like ERCP, healthcare providers are making it easier than ever to manage gallstones and improve patient outcomes — no scalpel required.

Time for bed
(smiling sweetly)

Pleasure was so hard for you, but evil's easy —
Let it thrive and come to a head.
It's no go the Muse, she's a death-mask and wheezy;
One goes off alone to be dead —
Your sheet knows your come and your handkerchief your snot;
Sing up, but do not bite the dust
By taking to the streets with your little begging pot
For a pittance of love or disgust.
You'll have a sleep: for troubled waters that's the oil;
Patient Death though is playing with your mortal coil,
Skinny-cat-with-a-mouse style;
Her velvet paw fondles you and throws you. Treasure
Such paroxysms — they're another sensual pleasure:
Twist your mouth, foam at the lips... and smile.
Me your love? — Never! — It was all put on, an act.
For my pure-chance disguise, I've Harlequin to thank:
The flaking smile that was making your plaster crack,
The drop of sweat that your excellent make-up drank.
My tongue was pasty with that acrid stickiness;
Laughingly we had our share of the black mascara
Which gave your eyes a false mother-of-pearl aura,
And your albino lashes a thistly prickliness.
Like your cheroots, I've smudged your rosy lips' lipstick
By foolishly licking off its red-currant slick
But your mouth is still laughing — it has never bled.
The penalty for kissing on stage is a pound per kiss...
Put your face back on, doll yourself up, brazen Miss
Jezebel, I tell you candidly, I loved that red.

Malevolent Landscape:

Sands of old bones — The sea draws
Last gasps: its swell bursting, sound on
sound...
— To see the night through, the moon
trawls
Pallid swamp, gulping fat worms down.
— Calm of the plague, kiln of fever...
The damned will o' the wisp is languishing.
— Through fetid grass the lily-livered
Warlock of a hare is vanishing...
— The white Washerwoman spreads
The dirty linen of the dead
Under the wolves' sun... — Schools
Of toads, small, melancholy
Succentors, with their bags of colic,
Poison the mushrooms, their stools.

I'm listening to a podcast about written horror stories and ohh one of the creepy stories was filled with so much folklore vibes. I just heard it so some details may be a bit different from the original but I've tried to make a somewhat nice retelling.
--- A woman attended a party at her friend's house. The atmosphere was cosy and friendly. She ended up talking with a man for hours. When waking up she asked her friend about the stranger but as she described him her friend didn't recall him at all. The woman couldn't remember if he had ever told her his name.
After some time the woman found out she was expecting a child. This horrified her as she had no memories of ever sleeping with the man at that party. She barely drank anything and wondered if he perhaps had drugged her. After some thinking she decided to keep the child as she was getting past 40. Soon she prepared for bring a child to her home. As she visited the hospital to do an ultra sound the nurse revealed that the child had something small pertruding from the tailbone. Other than that the child seemed perfectly fine and healthy. It was possible to do an operation once the child was older if she so wished it. The woman didn't quite understand the detail about the tailbone but didn't feel alarmed. During her pregnancy she was drawnto to anything watery. Taking long baths, spending time in the shower or bathing in the lake. After giving birth she found the baby boy as a perfect being and the tailbone didn't bother her at all. She still loved him dearly. The boy was lively, playful and curious. But he also had colic and could scream for a long time. Once again there was a party at her friend's house and she brought her son in a stroller while noticing many families brought their kids as well. Mother and son spent some time in the garden before she brough him towards the beach. It was a warm sunny day with calm water. The boy seemed to calm down somewhat. And there he was. The stranger who she met before. He was beautiful and glowing. He smiled kindly and brought her into an warm embrace while saying, "thanks." Afterwards he sat down on a stone while holding a violin and started to play. Beautiful yet haunted tunes filled the air. The woman then woke up. Still standing in the sand but the man with his violin wasn't there anymore. Neither her son or the stroller. She screamed her son's name while running along the beach. Tears kept rolling but her beloved son was nowhere to be found. It was at this point her friend arrived and asked what was going on. She then told her everything about the strange meeting. Her friend gave her a blank stare before saying, "but you don't even have a son.'"

Muskoka Farm Pre Training
The 280-acre Muskoka Farm – named for the famed Canadian lake district – is state of the art when it comes to thoroughbred horse spelling and pre training. This impressive facility includes a 2.4-kilometer crusher dust track, 2000m grass track for pace work and 27 day yards for horses in training.
The hindgut houses billions of microbes that live in a mutually beneficial relationship. They digest food, and the horse gets valuable VFAs in return. But if the hindgut is upset, it can have a ripple effect throughout the entire body. To know more about Pre Training, visit the Muskoka Farm website or call (02)45663106.
One sign of a troubled hindgut is colic. But even mild grumpiness or an inability to be ridden may point to digestive problems.
Aside from reducing the bulk of the diet, Andrews suggests twice-daily doses of psyllium (such as Metamucil for humans), which coats the intestine and reduces the amount of food the colon must work to break down. He also recommends limiting the use of oral antibiotics, as they can disrupt hindgut bacterial populations and lead to a deficiency in key vitamins.
A horse needs to be properly fed to keep it fit and healthy. They also need to be cooled down after exercise and given the right amount of rest to recover. The horses at Muskoka Farm are well cared for by staff and are given the best food possible to help them recover after training.
The 280-acre property is a state of the art horse spelling and training facility. It has three tracks (1000m sand, 2400m crusher dust and 2000m grass), an equine pool and a treadmill.
The facility is used by top trainers such as Gai Waterhouse, Chris Waller and Peter Snowden. It is a commercial operation with the capacity to accommodate up to 200 horses. It has five stable barns, 58 stables and dozens of day yards for horses in work. It also has a private jetty/pontoon, large outdoor pool and helipad. It is currently owned by Bob and Wendy Lapointe. They are selling the one-of-a-kind property through Inglis Rural Property.
In order to get the best results from your horses, it is important to make sure that they are in good physical condition. This can be done by ensuring that they are exercised on a regular basis. Moreover, it is also important to ensure that they are well fed.
Located on the Hawkesbury River at Gunderman, the 280 acre property is an impressive breaking/pre-training/spelling/agistment facility that’s been in operation for over 40 years. It’s held in high regard for its ability to handle up to 200 horses and is home to Australia’s top trainers, including Gai Waterhouse and Chris Waller.
The facility boasts a range of equine facilities and amenities, including an equine pool, walking machine, treadmill, barriers, and a large outdoor track. It is also equipped with a 24 hour helipad, private jetty/pontoon and a tennis court. In addition, the facility has a number of allied businesses, including Camhaven training and wellness centre and magnetic/vibration therapy.
The healthy hindgut is essential for a horse's appetite, hoof quality, and digestion of fibre and vitamins. A healthy hindgut is also vital for the ability to recover from exercise and injury. A horse that is not properly prepared or rested can suffer from a number of issues, including ulcers.
The prestige offering consists of the renowned Muskoka Farm in Gunderman, near Wisemans Ferry on the Hawkesbury River. The property is a world class thoroughbred facility with the capacity for breaking, pre training, spelling, and agistment. It is also a registered AQIS quarantine facility.

Who Undergoes a Gall Bladder Surgery
Gallstones are usually formed when there is an excess of cholesterol and bile in your belly. The main reason for gallbladder removal is to treat gallstone-related problems. There are several different types of gallstone surgeries, but the most common way to remove a gallbladder is through laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, which uses tiny incisions instead of one large cut.
Gallbladder surgery is performed on people who have gallstones or inflammation of the gallbladder.
Gallbladder surgery is performed on people who have gallstones or inflammation of the gallbladder. Gallstones are usually formed when there is an excess of cholesterol and bile in your belly.
Gallstones can be caused by eating a diet high in fat, cholesterol and animal protein. Sometimes they form because you don't produce enough bile or your body absorbs too much fat from what you eat. gallbladder surgery is a procedure to remove the gallbladder, which is located just below your liver on the right side of your abdomen (stomach).
Gallstones are usually formed when there is an excess of cholesterol and bile in your belly.
Gallstones are usually formed when there is an excess of cholesterol and bile in your belly. This can result in small, hard deposits that form in the gallbladder. Gallstones can be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a golf ball, but most people with gallstones don't need surgery unless they experience symptoms such as pain, nausea and vomiting.
The main reason for gallbladder removal is to treat gallstone-related problems.
If you have gallstones, your doctor may recommend surgery. Gallstones are tiny stones that form in the gallbladder and can cause pain and inflammation of the gallbladder. They can also cause biliary colic, which is a sharp pain in the upper right side of your abdomen.
Gallstone-related problems include:
Gallbladder disease (cholecystitis)
Gallstone pancreatitis (gallstones in pancreas)
Biliary colic
There are several different types of gallstone surgeries
There are several different types of gallstone surgeries, each with its own pros and cons.
Laparoscopic surgery: The surgeon operates through a small incision in the abdomen, using tiny instruments and a camera to view the inside of your body on a monitor. This method is typically less painful than open surgery but may take longer to recover from because it requires more time for your wounds to heal.
Open surgery: An incision is made in your abdomen so that the surgeon can access your gallbladder through an open wound (the same way laparoscopic surgery works). Because there's no need for sutures after this type of procedure, you might be able to go home sooner than if you had laparoscopic or robotic cholecystectomy performed instead
Some people may need to have their gallbladder removed if they have familial pancreatitis
If you have a rare condition called familial pancreatitits, which causes inflammation of both the pancreas and biliary tree, then your doctor may recommend removing your gallbladder.
This condition is more common in people who have family members with diabetes or other autoimmune diseases like celiac disease or Crohn's disease. It can also be triggered by trauma to the abdomen, surgery on other organs in the body (such as an appendectomy), infection with bacteria called Escherichia coli (E. coli) and alcoholism. Symptoms include:
Fatigue
Nausea or vomiting after eating fatty foods such as pizza or fast food burgers
Weight loss despite eating large amounts of food because it goes right through you without being digested properly
You should talk to your doctor if you're experiencing any symptoms related to your gallbladder before deciding whether or not to undergo surgery
If you're experiencing any of the following symptoms, it's important to talk to your doctor before deciding whether or not to undergo gallbladder surgery:
Nausea and vomiting that isn't related to eating
Stomach pain that doesn't go away with medication or rest
Jaundice
Conclusion
If you are experiencing gallbladder problems, you should talk to your doctor. He or she will be able to determine if gallbladder surgery is right for you and help make sure that the procedure goes as smoothly as possible.

wip ask game
Tagged by @essektheylyss.
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. (You can make your own post or reblog this one!) I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? DnD campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!
I have, uh, 83 items in my WIP folder and that's JUST for fics and not counting original projects, so I'll just post the 20 last edited:

Colic is what would happen if you ingested sand. I don’t recommend you try it.
And your careful research journals tell me that you don’t usually squirm and stutter over the science.
Sir, I have a problem...
You’re not alone. Plenty of people do.
If you’d like a physician to be able to assist, however, you’ll have to be a little more descriptive!
If you’re unwilling or unable to elaborate, may I suggest that you find yourself an emotional support stuffed animal, at least? Experience has shown me time and again that they are a highly effective treatment option for a vast array of maladies.

An Overview of Plants: Lavender
Name: Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia, Lavandula stoechas)
Description: It has purple flowers and grey-green or blue-green leaves. The leaves are flat and needle-like with rounded edges and the flowers are a light purple and sometimes have a bit of white depending on the species. The flowers are at the top of the plant on stalks and are slightly fuzzy to the touch. The flowers have a distinctive scent that is pretty recognizable.
Cultivation: It should be grown from June to August, and will grow to about 2-3 feet high. It should have dry soil and full sun, though it can grow in cooler conditions too. Keep the soil from being too acidic, and try to avoid over-watering the plants. To ensure soil that drains well, mix in some sand or gravel to help with drainage. If the plant becomes woody, prune it back by about half its height in the spring to encourage it to regain its leaves and flowers. When the flowers fade, clip them back to encourage repeated blooming throughout the season. Overall, they are very low-maintenance plants.
Harvest: Snip off the stems before the flowers have opened, when the plant is as dry as you can get it. Tie the stems together and hang them upside down in a sheltered place to finish drying. In a few weeks when they have dried, you can shake the flowers from the stems to use or store them as you want.
Folklore: In multiple cultures and religions, lavender was used as a protection against evil spirits, demons, and curses for a variety of reasons. It was also believed to help ward off the plague, because it was included in many mixtures people made for that purpose - though it may have been to add a pleasing scent rather than for its medicinal purposes. In Spain and Portugal, it was used to attract love, dream of the right match, and to protect people from cruelty and violence.
Magical Properties: Used in love spells to attract love - especially when trying to attract men. It is also used for protection spells to keep the person safe from harm from people or the evil eye. Lavender has also been used in spells for sleep, peace, and longevity. It is also known for its ability to purify, its use in divination, and to help see ghosts.
Medicinal Properties: Several studies suggest that highly concentrated lavender is a powerful antiseptic, and can be used as an antidote for a couple of snake venoms. It can be used to mitigate anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia as it has a calming effect. Limited trials support it being used for pain, hot flashes, and post-natal discomfort as well. It has also been traditionally used to help with focus, colic, nausea, decongestion, insect repellent, and tissue repair.
Recommended Amount: A few drops of essential oil mixed into a carrier oil is all that is needed. For teas, 1-2 teaspoons of lavender to 1 cup of water is recommended.
Warnings: Avoid using much of it if pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have an allergy to lavender avoid using it. Do not use it with infants or young toddlers. It has also been known to increase the effect of medications like CNS depressants, anticonvulsants, and anticoagulants so avoid it if taking these as well.
