Fundie Happenings in 2024 Q3
I've been in and out of fundieland for several months, so this post is mostly for my own benefit. Please let me know what all I've missed, and I'll update the post accordingly.
Here's what's happened in July-Sep of 2024.
Duggar Family
Jana Duggar marries Stephen Wissmann! After years of speculation and hints, the theories are confirmed. Jana and Stephen dated for a time, broke up, and got back together. Jana seems so happy, and I'm genuinely thrilled for her.
Jedidiah + Katey announce that she is pregnant again--and she's going to have the first set of Grandduggar twins. Given the way twins work, this is just an interesting coincidence that a (male) Duggar twin is going to have twins.
Jason Duggar announces that he's dating a girl named Maddie Jones. They get engaged on August 24. They might be getting married next month, but that remains to be confirmed.
Bates Family
Lawson + Tiffany welcome their first child, William Daniel Bates. He is a rainbow baby.
Nathan + Esther are awaiting their second child, a son.
Katie + Travis are awaiting welcome their second child, Harvey Gray. (Just in time to make Q3! Harvey was born on 9/29, and Katie posted about it late on 9/30.)
Rodrigues Family
Nurie + Nathan welcome Naomi Christine, Jill's first granddaughter. Nurie is seen serving in church service when she is freshly postpartum, and this is treated (by Jill) as evidence of Nurie's servant's heart and not an insult to a woman recovering from childbirth.
Timothy Rodrigues and Heidi Coverett get married, and Jill has some online beef with the Coveretts. I wish the newlyweds all the best, and I pray that Tim gets more distance from his mother.
Phillip Rodrigues seems to be in trouble. Jill asks for prayer for him, he posts some cryptic poetry, and he gets photoshopped into the family photo at the wedding.
Samuel Rodrigues is courting Brianne Hessert. Folks on the internet track down a video that may be Brianne saying homophobic vitriol to her rather open-minded father. If this really is her, she will fit right in with the Rodrigues clan.
Other Fundie Families
David + Priscilla (Keller) Waller welcome their seventh child, Desiree Hope. This answers the question about their baby name theme--girls get D names, and boys get P names.
Jeremiah + Allison (Bontrager) Helferich welcome their third child, Amelia Marie.
Mark + Sierra Dominguez welcome their eighth child, Briggs Maverick.
Isaac + Arti Anderson welcome their first child, Dietrich Johannes. This is the Andersons' first grandchild.
Miriam Anderson, the fourth child of Steven + Zsuzsanna, speaks out against her parents for their abuse.

What is Ifa Tuntun?

What is Ifa Tuntun? When did Ifa Tuntun begin? Who is culpable for initiating it? Ifa Tuntun started the moment we Africans were packed into the hulls of the merchant ships and hauled across the sea. Everything changed from that point. Nothing has ever been the same again both for those who were forcibly taken and those left behind. Those forcibly taken did several things: - Some looked back and cursed the land that they were leaving, and those who forced them into captivity and alienation. - Some, knowing they would be killed, locked their captors into a fight, even chained, and got executed. - Some, with courage, jumped into the ocean, burying their bodies in the mother sea, preferring death to captivity. - Some descended into the hull of the ships into which they were led, determined to live to see where the rest of the journeys of their lives would lead them. They shed blood. They shed tears. They shed sweat, cold sweat. They shed urination. They shed milk, those mothers taken away from their children, their swollen bodies lactating. They met others who could not speak their language. They communicated with gestures, with signs, with sighs, with cries. That was the birth of jazz music, as they improvised beyond words to make their feelings clear. That was the birth of blues, as they sobbed, rocking from side to side, moaning ai, aye, bae, bi, bligh, buy, by, bye, cai, chai, chi, cry, cy, dai, die, dry, dye, eye, fae, fi, fly, fry, frye, guy, hi, high, hy, hye, i, i., kai, kwai, lai, lie, ly, lye, mai, mei, my, nigh, nye, pe-tsai, phi, pi, pie, ply, pri, pry, psi, pye, rye, sai, shy, sky, skye, sly, spry, spy, sty, sy, tai, thai, thigh, thy, tie, tri, try, ty, tye, vi, vie, wai, why, wry, wye, y, yeeparipa! Their blood, mixing with the sweat, tears, milk, and urines on the floor of the ship, as pregnant women gave birth, and weak ones gave up life and dead bodies left marks on the bottom of the slave ships—gave birth to the origin of abstract painting, conceptual art, and gestural images of body markings.

© Tom Feelings, Middle Passage Photo / White Ship, Black Cargo That moment, which came for different people and their descendants in the foreign land, which they turned into the New Africa, was the end of an old order, and the birth of a new world. Their new voices articulated Ifa Tuntun, as they opened their mouths, and sang, in a rhythm, pacing, harmony, discord, and coloring never before known to humankind, Ifa Tuntun came out of these spirits: Aberjhani, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Linda Addison, Tomi Adeyemi , Rochelle Alers, Elizabeth Alexander, Kwame Alexander, Larry D. Top 10 Disney Movies That Were Never Made
Originally published January 13th, 2013
The Brave Little Toaster is being remade and will include more modern appliances like an iPhone. There was a huge outcry at this because fuck man, The Brave Little Toaster is just awesome like okay? But that movie was almost never made. John Lasseter would have made his directorial debut with it, but Disney fired him when he suggested using 2-D characters with 3-D backgrounds and the project was shelved. But of course, it exists now. But doesn’t it make you wonder what movies stayed shelved? Here are my Top 10.
10. Bambi’s Children (1943). There were a lot of Disney sequels that were never made, but this was by far the worst sequel idea I came across. Let’s watch some deer grow up—again!
9. The Fool’s Errand (2002). A story about a court jester that has to save his kingdom. That would have been awesome.
8. The Prince and the Pig (2003). A boy and his pig try to steal the moon. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME.
7. Army Ants (1988). A pacifist ant struggles living in a militant colony. It’s funny because this idea was shelved twenty years before the whole “Antz and A Bug’s Life” controversy.
6. Wild Life (2005). Animals from the zoo trying to live in the gritty New York city. The idea was canned for not being “Disney.” It was later remade into the Disney movie “The Wild.”
5. Penguin Island (1938). A half-blind Christian Monk crash lands on an island of penguins and, mistaking them for people, baptizes them. That couldn’t have gone well, but I would have watched the shit out of it.
4. The Hound of Florence Inspector Bones (1941). Essentially Sherlock Holmes with dogs. What’s unique about it is that it would have been in the style of Tex Avery cartoons. This was especially funny because Warner Bros. and Disney were in fierce competition in the early 1900s when they were both making aniamted shorts. Warner Bros. was pop culturey and Disney had heart. It would have been something to see Disney step into the Warner Bros. territory.
3. The Tales of Hans Christian Anderson (1943). This was actually going to be a story about the author’s life, with his life filmed in live-action and some of his tales included as animated segments. Some of the tales that would have been included were The Little Mermaid, The Emperor’s New Clothes, and The Snow Queen. All of these tales were made into Disney movies decades later (The Little Mermaid, The Emperor’s New Groove, and the upcoming Frozen.) It would have been strange to see how Disney would have done them in the forties.
2. Disney’s Dwarfs (2007). This was basically supposed to be a franchise following the drawfs from Snow White. Here’s the kick: It was supposed to be in the style of Lord of the Rings. Essentially, Disney was going to do a gritty reboot of its very first movie. But believe it or not, there’s a better pick for number one…
1. The Wizard of Oz (1937). Disney planned on making this film right after Snow White, but the rights were lost out to Samuel Goldwyn, who later sold them to MGM. MGM, of course, wound up making The Wizard of Oz that we all know, debatably the most iconic movie of all time. Imagine if Disney had gotten the rights. Imagine if he was the one to make The Wizard of Oz.
