Actually I have a hot take that's been brewing on my mind a little in regards to Cybertronian society and physiology and stuff so like
I've said it's annoying when people impose human gender binaries on the genderless alien robots with no sexual dimorphism, but honestly I also find it annoying when people impose human standards of childhood vs adulthood on the non-organic robot aliens who are almost always born/built immediately having all of the faculties of what we would call an "adult," just lacking in actual worldly experience.
Obv there are exceptions like the recent Earthspark where the Terrans are explicitly children/child-coded
But it's honestly just so weird to me sometimes sjdkshfjd people will be like "awwww baby" to Bumblebee and ma'am that's literally a grown man. Also what functional difference is there b/t a robot that's 4 million years old vs 5 million years old when their race is technically near immortal. Like why are ppl calling Rodimus a child out there when dude is literally the same age as or just slightly younger than characters like Optimus
It's not nearly as annoying or offensive as when people put cisheteronormativity in a culture that wouldn't have it, but like. Am I the only one who finds it really boring to impose human ideas of age on alien robots ESPECIALLY when it comes to basically recreating "oh here's mommy and here's daddy and here's the baby" like sigh

The story of Tally Craven is that she is not someone who desires leadership. She would be perfectly happy to follow someone else's lead if they did a good job of it. The story of Tally Craven is that she lives in a world where people do not do a good enough job of it. The story of Tally Craven is that she doesn't desire leadership, but she can be pretty good at it, and she'll do it if she feels like she needs to. The story of Tally Craven is that her environment makes her decide that she needs to take the initiative because no one else is doing it right.

A joke sketch I ended up more committed to than anticipated after watching a Spyro speedpaint. I don't know if I'd get to explore these two's relationship on a humorous level in canon, but that's what memes are for.
(Both Nameless [left] and Ghirren [right] use he/him and are trans men)

2024 reads / storygraph
The Saint of Bright Doors
a surreal Sri Lankan fantasy about colonialism, revolution, mixing fantasy with the modern world
follows a man raised by his mother to kill his father, a god-like cult leader
but as an adult he puts aside his life of violence and moves to the city for a quiet life
he becomes fascinated with ‘bright doors’ around the city that never open and have no other side, and joins a group studying them to find out more
and a support group for those with divine heritage that becomes increasingly revolutionary, until the task he was made for reemerges and his life upends
#the Saint of Bright Doors#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#this is kind of hard to explain I dont know if I did a very good job here lol#it is weird and full of so many interesting elements. I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about it but?? I really liked it mostly???#It starts pretty small scale focused on the MC & slowly unravels the wider worldbuilding and narrative elements in a really interesting way#The first chapter or two I assumed it was typical high fantasy but then it’s like. oh this is a modern city. with emails and stuff.#The pacing is a bit weird - it’s quite meandering and also pivots significantly in the second half. tbh I’m still ????? about the ending lm#but also I am happy to float through on vibes.#and there’s some elements (like the doors that become….not that relevant) that I want to know more about. (as an aside - I saw someone say#that it’s a very clear retelling about Buddha’s son? which idk enough about but probably could give a deeper context to a lot of it)#writing style is kinda detached from the MC but also there is a reason for this that makes sense with the twist near the end!#which is a kind of twist i LOVE. Maybe I wish it had been emphasised a bit more over the story though? unsure.#I thought his mother's story was interesting also - you think she's an terrible parent just there for background context at the start but#then when she tells her story it's like ohh there's more context here.#also I hesitate to just say ‘if you like the spear cuts-- you should read this’ because I think the elements that are similar are done in a#kinda different way and might disappoint you if you’re expecting it to be the same as spear….but regardless the sort of dreamy writing#rich world; narrative with fantasy but also modern day elements; some of the writing style; mlm MC (tho not a romance)#idk. it will definitely not work for everyone but I enjoyed it overall#also it is full of queerness#bisexual books

Ok I lied, I also desperately want more about VLTD because I'm FERAL for it... *please*?? I'll take any little snippets you're willing to offer <3 - @fieldsofview
@fieldsofview god okay so Violet is coming a bit slow. I got 6k into it and realized I was already bored with the story. It just wasn't doing it for me, so I put it back in the percolator to stew some more and NOW I think I have the right setting for it. Originally I wanted to send them to Alaska bc of Nash's little throwaway thought about being brother of the year by buying Jo a plane ticket, but that's just not working for me creatively. Tennessee is where it's at, you know?
SO INSTEAD, he's going to buy her the ticket not knowing the reason she's been down in the dumps lately is because she misses when it was just the two of them. She's going to have a bit of a breakdown bc she's feeling all that and now he's trying to send her away?? But she still doesn't want to say it's him and Teddy that are the problem bc he's literally never been this happy before and she won't be the one to ruin it. So instead she confesses she misses her friends, which she does but also there's drama between her and Bella because of her moving away so it's a bit of a nasty surprise when she finds out that instead of Alaska Nash has arranged for her friends to stay with them for a week.
So now she has to deal with even less one-on-one time with her brother and also all the drama she thought was safely sequestered in Buford Hills.
So I'm going to have to cut most of what I have written (*sob*) but the intro is good enough to keep so here you go!
Here there be spoilers for Blue, like don't forget about me!
Tumblr media
There’s an art to picking a hotel cheap enough that living out of it for three weeks won’t bankrupt you, but nice enough you won’t need to worry about bugs. In Jo’s opinion, it all comes down to the desk.
Hotel rooms follow a basic formula: bed (obviously), mini fridge (to store stress pudding), shitty single-brew coffee maker (always the same), a microwave (always different), an armchair in the corner (to sit in whilst eating pudding), and a desk. A good look at the desk and you’ll know whether you’ve made a mistake.
Too squat or wobbly—clearly not intended to be used—you’re in a cheap hotel meant for a single night stay and expected to be gone by breakfast. But a nice desk with a matching chair in a room that doesn’t make you feel like a dirty street urchin means you have successfully walked the line between frugality and indulgence.
Careful not to topple the precarious stack of client notes, Jo scoots the hard four-legged chair closer to the desk that’s too low to fit her thighs under despite being all of 5’4” in her derby skates. She sticks her plastic pudding spoon between her teeth and moves the stack away from the edge while creamy chocolate warms on her tongue. The sleeve of her favorite sweater, an ancient thing with a brown stain over her left breast that looks like a fatal stab wound (pudding incident of 2022), catches on the sharp corner but tears free without trouble thanks to the tattered state of the hems.
“When’re you gonna be home?”
She picks up her phone to see the familiar worry line between her brother’s eyebrows. Nash’s hair is overgrown again—beachy curls inching over his ears and peeping around the sides of his neck. He looks tired, but he always looks tired. More important is the aura of peace that he’s carried like a favorite blankie since they moved to their little mountain.
She swallows and slips the spoon from between her lips. “Thursday.” She points her spoon at the mini fridge where three pudding cups remain—one for each remaining day. “Think you can get the place baby sister proofed by then?”
The stress lines framing his mouth flex. “Yeah. ‘Course.”
She sticks her spoon into her pudding and leaves it there as she prepares to dig for whatever he isn’t saying, but, for once, he beats her to it.
He casts a surreptitious look over his shoulder then hunches forward and says, “Teddy’s got napkin swatches all over the front room.”
Ah, and they’re talking about Teddy again. It was a fun novelty for the first two months—she’s never seen her brother fall all over himself like he did for Teddy—but it’s been three years and she’s over it.
“I don’t understand why swatches. Why not just give us one of each napkin? It don’t make sense.”
“Uh, yeah I guess it’s kind of weird. Why napkins?”
His expression turns dour. “He wants me to pick one for the reception.”
“Alright, so pick.”
They were supposed to get married in February (fucked up, unnatural time for a wedding but nobody asked her), but then Teddy freaked out acting like a little backyard shindig wouldn’t be good enough and now they’re shelling out actual cash money to stand around in a swanky lodge for six hours and eat overpriced chicken.
Downright foolish, but again, nobody asked her.
“I tried but he said he could tell I was just trying to get out of it.” Steel gray eyes stare into hers. “Jo, I don’t care about napkins.”
“I don’t think anybody cares about napkins.”
“That’s what I—!” He lowers his voice. “That’s what I said.”
“But Teddy cares about—,”
“That’s the thing,” Nash interrupts, eyes wide, animated in his exasperation. “He doesn’t care either.”
“Then why—,”
“He thinks—,” He wrinkles his nose, then confesses, “He thinks it’s one of those things where maybe I do care, I just haven’t thought about it enough to know.”
“That’s ridiculous.”
“I know.”
“They’re napkins.”
“I know.”
It takes another five minutes to talk Nash around into telling Teddy that he’s put in enough due thought to determine he very much doesn’t care what people wipe their hands and face on at their wedding, but he turns down Jo’s suggestion that they stick a paper towel roll on each table so he must care at least a little bit.
When they hang up the pit of missing home hasn’t filled an inch. Even worse, her pudding is room temperature.

One of the things I find so interesting about the choices for covers with alien stage songs is that in every instance it feels like the song being covered gives more insight into the particular character(s) performing the cover. The alternate versions of the songs feel so specifically selected in order to further explore those characters’ feelings using a song that was not originally written for them but still reveals some additional layer of their inner identities or some sort of foreshadowing for what they will become.
All this to say,,,,,, based on previous covers and what we know about the cast,,,,,,, I’m on my hands and knees begging for a hyuluka cover of Cure and a Luka cover of Unknown (Till the End),,,,,,

I don't really like the way the MCU movies have sanitized and simplified Wade's relationship with Blind Al into 'they're just roommates' instead of her having been the subject of some of Wade's most abject and sometimes sadistic, undeserved cruelty, who slowly turned into one of his only real Morality Chains and managed to see him as a human that deserves redemption even though she had every right in the world to hate him with every ounce of her soul.

mutual how are you so good at getting into arguments with people who agree with you
probably bc i only respond to people who cant write or read
"rape play can be consented to" and "rape can be consented to" are VERY different sentences. n like honestly i shouldnt even have bothered.
if you have such a fundamental misunderstanding of the english language i wont waste my time trying to communicate with you. when every word means something different its not really english anymore is it. if everything u say is so divorced from the english language that i need to ask you to repeat and translate everything i dont think im at fault here
i might just cut contact w anyone in the community because everything i say is misunderstood and misrepresented and not taken seriously if im not sucking up to people.
and so many words have new double-meanings and im led to think i disagree with ppl because theyre fucking incapable of writing a coherent sentence. and then its my fault somehow.
and its not like 'transid' or paraphilia dont exist outside of the radqueer community. everyone wants to change things about themselves. everyone changes. people are into weird shit and have mental disorders. i dont have a problem with peoples experiences.
n if rqs put any effort into what they say (or even didnt blame me for assuming that a word doesnt have any new secret meaning) id treat it the same as the mogai or liom community. whatever. kinda fun. sometimes theres a relatable label
.delete later
#i do have a deep insecurity about being stupid and always confused and people not understanding anything i say#ableist shit#but i also dont see anything wrong with how i talk from my perspective#i dont know why whatever is wrong with me is wrong with me#other autists dont like or understand me#but like. even if theres something fundamentally wrong with me im not gonna bend over backwards and make myself palatable you anyone.#i dont give a shit really. no one has to like or understand me ig#also. 'where do you guys find animal rape porn?'. im not hanging out near a community where thats as common as it is and people you reblog#from like that shit.#im aware that 'not all of us' and 'theres bad apples everywhere' but thw queer community doesnt have a Huge chunk that believes in#legalizing rape.#and i dont think id hang out in any other community that does.#also#not as bad obviously but so many people being pathetic. identities for when youre trans but have internallized so much transphobia tha#t youre calling yourself cis now#you have intrusive thoughts so now you say youre transharmful.#its a whole lot of letting outside factors control your identity which is just miserable to look at for me#and not a vibe i wanna be around#sometimes theres straight up bigotry 'afab 4 afab because duhh afab means pussy. and transsexuals dont exist' or treating birth assignment#as a gender#you see that in the regular queer community too i just feel like complaining#im just tired of this. every day i log on to tumblr and see a rq post and go 'wow/damn these people are extremely annoying and detached#from the english language'.#fucking. even transgender in a transid context has a different meaning#ppl say transgender isnt a transid and like. theyre right and theyre also wrong.#transgender(transid version) isnt the fucking same as transgender(queer community)#and this isnt me being genuine but lets have some fun with radqueer etymology and twist transgender even further. trans- in a transid#context means (change) with intent.#i did not choose my gender with intent..therefore actually i am a cisgender male.#so if i do end up fucking blocking you then you know why

Hello! I was looking through your kpop opinions tag, and I found what you said interesting and insightful. I was wondering what your opinions were on Key's Gasoline :D
i have............complicated thoughts on gasoline. i LOVE the graphic design and album marketing and i like a big chunk of the songs on the album, i think a lot of the styling and the mv are really well done. all those outfits are custom builds and the embroidery work is UNREAL, as garments they are beautiful pieces of work. but i don't really like how the song is just a retooled version of industry baby. and i'm not sure how i feel about all the crosses, to be honest. the use of them is obviously very intentional and undoubtedly they mean something TO key specifically in terms of his faith but it's..........not really a thing i can get behind, personally. something about it feels a little too evangelical to me and i will absolutely admit that i am overly sensitive to that kind of thing bc i've had more than one run in with evangelical attempts to convert me. i don't ACTUALLY think it was meant specifically as a whole dogmatic evangelical thing but i find myself being a bit......uncomfortable with the imagery even now a year later.

Um I don't know how to ask this but what does a firewatch au mean? Is firewatch a film or job or era? I've never seen the word firewatch before? I'm not American that might be why idk
No problem! Firewatch is a video game that I played last year and got minorly obsessed with due to its story and beautiful art, but it is also based on a job and era so you're somewhat right on all accounts. I believe the job does exist outside of the US, but I think it was a lot more widespread and well-known in the US. The actual terminology for the job is being a lookout, not a "firewatch," but that's what the game was called.
Basically, fire lookouts were employees often employed by the US Forest Service and paid to sit in towers on mountaintops all day during fire season and pay attention to where wildfires start. They are often located in remote wilderness areas or national forests, and sometimes the lookout towers could take days of hiking on foot to reach. These locations are most often in the American west, in areas like New Mexico, Colorado, California, Idaho, Wyoming, etc. Places where the landscape might be dry and prone to fire if lightning strikes or a backpacker's campfire gets out of hand. I think fire lookouts exist in most US states but they're way more concentrated in the west than in the south or east because the risk of devastating wildfire is greater there. Lookouts keep watch on the horizon to notice any smoke, use a tool to pinpoint its location, and radio it in to the Forest Service so that the fire can be contained and suppressed as soon as possible, or allowed to burn in a controlled way for the good of the ecosystem.
The job technically still exists in 2023, but a lot less of these lookouts remain and a lot of them are simply staffed by volunteers instead of as a seasonal job. The golden age of the job was in the early to mid 1900s and technology took over some of the job duties. The story takes place in 1989, however.
Anyway, it's a very interesting job? I've always been drawn to remote places where human contact is far away. I have a tendency to spend hours on Google Maps finding these places and wondering what it would look like to explore these random mountains. I also really enjoy hiking and nature. So the idea of a job where you're essentially living in one room on a mountaintop for several months completely alone in the wilderness is very interesting to me and I latched onto it immediately after playing the game. The game makes comment on this too--the type of people who take the job are they type of people who don't mind being completely cut off from society for a while, for whatever reasons they may have. In the game, your only real contact with other characters is with Delilah, purely over hand-held radio. It's a game about aloneness, in many ways.
The basic summary of my Hermitcraft Firewatch AU is that Grian and Mumbo were best friends and roommates in Colorado, until Mumbo goes missing while hiking/mountain biking alone in a national forest (Shoshone, just like the game.) Grian, convinced he's still alive, decides to take matters into his own hands to find him. He takes a job as a fire lookout in the same national forest Mumbo went missing in the year prior with the intentions of using his off days to solve the mystery of his disappearance. It's there that he meets Scar, who is the next lookout on the horizon, and their friendship develops over the course of the fic through their daily conversations over the radio. Grian begins to let him into his life and the mystery he's dead-set on solving. This fic might also have the inclusion of fanart embedded within it, since half of the game's appeal is the atmosphere it creates visually, but that just depends on if I'm satisfied with how it comes out lol
Thanks for asking!
