Moonlight Chicken: Chinese Zodiac ↣ People born in the Year of the Horse tend to be lively, energetic, courageous, and enthusiastic about people and life. Horses tend to have a keen eye and think logically but are considerate enough of others' feelings. They are not good at hiding emotions and their feelings will be easily shown on the face. Despite this, they tend to be popular and well-liked. They do also tend to spend money lavishly.

"I chose to sell Chicken Rice because it's a simple dish. Consisted of four components: rice, chicken, broth and sauce. It might have only four units, yet everyone's definition of 'delicious' differs. Some love to eat chicken skin. Some don't eat it with the sauce at all. Some love the hot broth. That's what makes this simple dish stand out. I see people eat Chicken Rice everyday. And they enjoy their Chicken Rice in their own way."

Episode 7 was incredible all around but specifically the way Mark portrays Leng is just so so good
Tumblr media
MLC giving us Gaipa grieving was what I expected (and, side note: Khaotung owes me financial compensation I literally sat there and sobbed during 4/4), but they also gave us Leng.
He's not related to Mrs. Hong by blood, but she's still his family. She's still part of Leng's community, and she's his best friend's mom. So the raw distress and fear on Leng's face - not just in this scene, but the hospital scene and the funeral too - it's absolutely incredible. Just, the way it's shown as the grief of someone who isn't immediate family but still extremely affected by the death? I love it. We so rarely get to see that specific viewpoint and I'm so glad we got it here.

I was kinda sad for Gaipa, but now I 100% get Jim!!
If Jim had his restaurant since around 2016 (Beam died in 2018, and they'd had the restaurant awhile at that point), then that means he most likely knew Gaipa at 12!! (Born in 2004), and that Gaipa is only 1/2 years older than Jim's nephew that he raised for many years.
[EDIT: In the final ep Jim says he's been making Chicken Rice for a decade, so 2013. So he's possibly known Gaipa since he was 9]
Jim reciprocating those feelings would be low-key gross.
I think Jim sees Gaipa the same way he sees Saleng, as a kid he kinda of helped raise (in the sense of a child growing up surrounded by a community that helps each other as a family)

‘Lung’ is used to refer to an uncle who is older than your parents.
‘Ar’ is used if the uncle is on the child’s father’s side and is younger than the child’s father

Saleng is most likely 21 and Gaipa is most likely 19 (in 2023).

‪@pattonoswalt: ‬RUN DON’T WALK and go see Aaron Schimberg’s A DIFFERENT MAN when it opens on October 4th.
We got to see an early screening last night and the wife and I are still talking about this ABSOLUTE WONDER of a film.
It’s hilarious, and then dark, and then heart-wrenching and then hilarious and and a couple of times GENUINELY SCARY, sometimes in the space of a minute. I haven’t seen anything like this in a LONG TIME.
The cast — Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve (THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD) and @Adam_Pearson — are all at the top of their game. Stan pulls off a feat of acting that totally upends his natural magnetism with zero trickery or effects. It’s undiluted ESSENCE.
Reinsve is the “quirky dream girl” until she ISN’T and the moment when it shift the whole audience GASPED. But what’s weird about all of the “twists” is they’re NOT twists. They’re in keeping with the VERY human train-wreck personalities that inhabit Schimberg’s world.
And @Adam_Pearson — good Lord in heaven. Again, he and Stan play off each other in a way you totally don’t expect until it feels so real that all of the jokes, sadness, and genuine psychosis feel earned & real & inevitable.
This is definitely one of those movies like ADAPTATION and TRIANGLE OF SADNESS that I’m gonna need multiple viewings of just to see all of the visual and verbal tricks that Schimberg gleefully gets away with.
May Aaron Schimberg forever be allowed to make exactly the fucked-up movies he wants to me. Seriously, go see A DIFFERENT MAN — in a THEATER, just to hear the audience react. WOW.

Matthew Perry, Meredith Salenger, and River Phoenix during the making of the movie A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988).
I thought it was a great book and a great movie. Matthew was born in 1969, both River and Meredith were born in 1970. These are people from my generation.
We lost River Phoenix on October 31, 1993 (age 23 years). And now Matthew Perry on October 28, 2023 (age 54 years).
Both left us too young.

Because the conversation about the pen isn't just a conversation about a pen. It's about Wen.
Because Li Ming purchasing two bubble teas isn't just about the bubble teas. It's about Heart being an unseen presence in Li Ming's life.
Because eating beef isn't about preference of meat. It's about changing for another person to a point that you don't know who you are anymore.
Because the waiter trying to relight the fire isn't just about the food. It's about the relationship being over.
Because the sticky notes framing the mirror isn't just about the notes. It's about how Heart's entire world is boxed in by his parents' lack of communication with him.
Tumblr media
Because the colors aren't just about the colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's about the love we give and take from others.

Because Aof is telling a layered story that is full of subtle and visual clues every single scene that even in the silence, there is constant noise.
This show is feeding my soul.
