in their first year and the first season of the show did sky (brandon at the time) not take his royal classes? like that confuses me to this day how did two teenage boys pull this off without at least slipping up in front of timmy and riven. i also think that it would make sense that saladin would know about the switch for security reasons.
How did Brandon/Sky and Sky/Brandon manage the switch situation at school?
Saladin definitely knew. Maybe the other professors didn't (too many liabilities), but they had been instructed to allow the squire (who was the real prince) to attend royal classes. The excuse was that the King of Eraklyon had ordered him to be with the Prince at all times for his protection: this way the real Sky could attend his classes and the real Brandon could protect him.
As for their roommates, both Timmy and Riven knew that something was amiss, but Riven didn't care enough to investigate - as long as he could kick the squire's (real Sky) ass he was fine - and Timmy got distracted too often to follow up on his suspicions.

Codatorta and his kids
Codatorta & Riven:
Is particularly hard on Riven to get him to achieve “his potential”.
Does look after the younger man, though: makes sure he always has a place to go to once the school goes on break, invites him for dinner with Codatorta’s family on holidays, etc.
Riven is the only one who doesn’t know that he is Codatorta’s real favourite.
Codatorta & Nabu:
Doesn’t even try to hide how much better he thinks Nabu is compared to his students.
”You all should be more like Nabu” this, “I want Nabu to enrol in Red Fountain, please please please” that
Nabu calls Codatorta “daddy 🥺” jokingly and although the older man yells at him for it, he is the only one who doesn’t get beaten up for name-calling.
Codatorta & Helia:
A very respectful, caring relationship.
Although Codatorta at least tries to appear professional with the rest of the gang, he gives up all pretences with Helia.
C’mon, he has known the younger man since the latter was a kid in diapers. Seen him go through hardships, make mistakes and flourish in spite of them. How could he pretend to be anything but wholly on Helia’s side?
Protective of Helia like a little brother. In turn, Helia cares for Codatorta and looks up to him.
Codatorta & Timmy:
the bemused mentor & the over-achieving, comedically ill-timed mentee.
For a long time, Codatorta dismisses Timmy for one of the rich kids who are in it for the rank and the mantle, and treats him coolly.
Timmy desperately tries to prove himself — but because he is so edge around Codatorta, only makes the impression worse. Amy Santiago style.
Only when Timmy stops caring about Codatorta’s opinion and really comes into his own as a specialist — being his quietly bad-ass, confident self — only then does Codatorta start to respect him.
They don’t speak of the shift in their dynamic, but Codatorta begins to entrust Timmy with more challenging tasks and relies on his insight more.
Codatorta & Brandon:
The tired grump dad & the middle child.
Codatorta does actually like Brandon and thinks he makes for a very honourable specialist
But he hates hates hates Brandon’s clown-assery.
Most of their interactions are Brandon trying to be/being funny and Codatorta punishing him for it (and for the man’s ongoing headaches) with exercises.
Once in a blue moon, they do have sincere moments, where both learn a bit from each other.
Codatorta & Sky:
Some (Riven) might mistake Sky for Codatorta’s favourite, because the older man dedicates a lot of his personal time to teaching & advising the prince.
But this is mostly because Sky is one of the only princes, and heirs to a significant empires at that, under Codatorta’s care - and he wants his charge to become a decent man before he inherits the throne.
So Codatorta tries to make Sky wise, selfless, smart, a leader
But Sky is also stubborn as fuck and is responsible for half of Codatorta’s grey heirs alone — so heck no, he is not the favourite .
so to summarise:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
all the interactions between Codatorta and the specialists are, of course, Platonic.

Some headcanons for Griffin, Faragonda and Saladin
I have some headcanons about Saladin, Griffin and Faragonda. All three of them have been "cursed" (not cursed per se, I'm using the word 'curse' as a metaphor for their trauma) during the Company of Light era.
Tumblr media
Saladin prides himself in his powerful abilities as a wizard, especially in his strength.
Tumblr media
When the time came to face a battle between the Ancestral Witches and their minions during one of the Company of Light’s missions, one of them cursed him to age quickly, which heavily affected his height too, causing him to shrink. It took him a while to adjust to his condition, but despite his curse, he is still able to retain the potency of his magical abilities with some limitations that comes with being cursed, which Valtor in Season 3 insinuates that he is the weakest (obvs he is far from that!) among the three points of magic.
Tumblr media
With Faragonda, being able to have better control of her powers is one of the most important things to her. For most part of her childhood up to her early teenage years, she struggled understanding herself and her powers. Growing up from a family of witches and wizards, she was born a witch and because she was unable to control her powers (thanks to the pressure from her parents), despite the help of Griffin when they were younger, she decided to transfer from Cloud Tower to Alfea to become a fairy.
When she switched schools, it had caused a slight rivalry and bitterness between her and Griffin since light magic is the more socially acceptable type of magic. By channeling positive emotions, it has helped her manage and understand her powers better. This also led to an interest in teaching herself convergence at Alfea (which she teaches in the series), particularly converging with dark magic users. With Faragonda's own research in convergence with light and dark magic to fight the forces of evil, she had hoped it would bridge the gap between fairies and witches (especially from Alfea and Cloud Tower), hoped it would bring her and Griffin together like they once were and hoped it would help the Council understand that light and dark can work in unison, and that dark magic users are important to the balance of magic. I'll expand on Faragonda's role, powers and background in my CoL fic later on. Similar to Griffin's own research in my headcanons for her.
Anyway, during Faragonda’s mission to rescue Griffin from the Ancestral Witches' lair in Obsidian, everything was going to plan when Faragonda found herself in a trap set by one of the members from the Wizards of the Black Circle, Yllidith (a character from the comics who we do not see in the show). Long story short, Yllidith plucked Faragonda’s wings in front of Griffin (who was magi-cuffed at the time, also tied to her fate, so she couldn't access her powers as she watched in horror). Hagen and Saladin both came to their rescue and fought off the wizard and other beings of evil. And with all the strength she had left, Faragonda opened a portal and teleported them back to safety despite being severely wounded. Even with the help of her Enchantix fairy dust or any fairy who was at Enchantix level, there had been no cure in growing her fairy wings back.
Tumblr media
However, since witches don't need wings to fly, Griffin taught Faragonda to fly with a LOT of trial and error + it had taken Faragonda years to heal from losing her wings. She also had gotten a little better at channeling her negative emotions but she was still better suited as a fairy and was at her best with transmitting positive emotions despite being wingless.
Tumblr media
Griffin’s curse is thanks to Valtor for her betrayal during their final encounter with one another. He has cursed her to never know peace. Anything she holds dear somehow gets taken away from her, even momentarily and she's in a constant state of chaos, also most likely from her PTSD from the war(s). (Faragonda helps Griffin cope with and manage her curse, they both do!)
Tumblr media
Cloud Tower (CT) is one of the things she holds dear because it is her safe space, not only for herself or the many objects (some rare, dangerous and ancient relics) that is home to it but also for her students who she deeply care for.
The times when CT was invaded by the Trix and with them being related to the Ancestral Witches (AW), you can imagine how triggering it was for her, especially when she’s worked incredibly hard to make sure CT is a school where witches of dark magic can learn how to control their powers for good and help fight evil. She fears that, with the Trix being in control of CT, history might repeat itself and cause an army of dark magic users who uses their powers for evil causing an imbalance in magic.
Tumblr media
And let’s not forget when Valtor took control of CT and her students, it had really caused her dearly. He even sent her to prison in her own school, a cruel way to face her punishment for betraying him all those years ago. He had hoped she'd rot in her prison cell for eternity, to be a prisoner of her own mind from her grief and guilt, the same way he did when he was trapped in the Omega Dimension. (Of course, we know what canonically happened in Season 3).

Company of light doodling again
[image description: sketches of headmistresses Griffin and Faragonda;each is wearing a skirt suit, with griffin in an angular black jacket with a dramatically splayed off the shoulder lapel; Faragonda’s suit is pastel mint and yellow, with a peplum in the shape of butterfly wings. As well as younger (middle aged) Griffin, Saladin, and Faragonda in their adventuring days. Younger Griffin’s hair is styled into horns and long waves, and she wears yellow glasses. Saladin looks austere and serious, with his dark hair already graying. Faragonda wears tall boots and trousers with a pink waistcoat.]

In an AU scenario where Domino is destroyed but Bloom doesn’t get sent to Earth she and Helia would have totally been childhood friends. I don’t remember Helia’s parents ever being mentioned, so I’m totally going with the headcanon that Saladin would have to raise Helia on his own and he would do so because he can’t see it any other way. He loves his nephew more than anything else. Saladin is a scholar who travels a lot and Helia would go with him anywhere. Faragonda and Griffin, for their part, would have taken it upon themselves to raise Bloom, and she would be hanging out with Helia all the time. Faragonda, Griffin, and Saladin would be busy with the Council and the political aspect of having survived the genocide on Domino while simultaneously having saved the whole Magic Dimension. They would be spending a lot of time together and so would Helia and Bloom. They would get bored of sticking around the adults and would go on adventures on their own.
They share a deep fascination for history and folktales and are both artistic souls. Bloom definitely got it from Marion. Saladin isn’t much of an artist himself but he’s glad his nephew has found a way to express himself even after the trauma of having lost both of his parents. Helia looks so much like his mother, Saladin’s sister, to the point where he sometimes mistakes him for her. (Just like they see so much of Marion in Bloom.)
Bloom goes to Alfea like in canon and she introduces Helia to the friend group. Something clicks with Flora for him because she’s also a history nerd and an artist (she paints in the comics, so I think this one canon-ish) and he would totally ask Bloom for help when he realises he has a huge crush on her.

When you feel the inescapable urge to draw winx.
Anyway I’m actually doing a more in-depth Helia redesign (I just happened to draw Flora beside him) and I’m figuring out other, more situation-dependant outfits for the rest

I love how theres like two majorly different takes on Helia.
The first: Soft boy, sensitive, shy, quiet, refuses to fight because it’s violent, sad and lonely at first, best friends with Timmy because he’s also awkward and quiet
The second: Smart ass, quiet because he’s a Saladin and has been media trained since birth but is silently judging everyone, refuses to fight because he thinks its fucking stupid, best friends with Timmy because he’s the only other member in their squad who is actually mature. Constantly co-parenting Brandon Sky and Riven while the three fight over their single shared braincell.

The Dichotomy of Witches and Fairies: my Winx Headcanons
just some thoughts :)
Witches, wizards and fairies are not that different from each other. It's the presentation that distinguishes them, for the most part – the Fairies & Fae are all about Light and Celestiality, Witches & Warlocks all about Darkness and Decay, and Wizards are something in between – and what emotions make casting magic the easiest for them.
For example, witches and warlocks find it easiest to cast magic, when they focus on negative emotions: wrath, fear, jealousy, anxiety, chaos, devastation, etc. They take the hurt the world has subjected them to and tame it, turn it into power to change the status quo. Most use it to do good, some use it to do evil.
Regular folk see the Darkness and Decay that taint a witch’s every spell, and disregard them as malicious, as scary, as evil – no matter if they actually are.
Fairies and fae, on the other hand, draw their powers from positive emotions/concepts: compassion, hope, protectiveness, happiness, love, selflessness, etc. In many ways, it’s harder to be a fairy than a witch – because it’s harder to guard and preserve what is fickle. To always remain positive.
Fairies and fae are highly regarded among the common folk; thought to be the apogee of what is good and pure. This has its negative ramifications: many fairies strain under the expectations of keeping a “perfect” image.
Finally, wizards. Those are people who wield magic by steading all of their emotions and learning self-discipline. Saladin and the Guardians of Ohm are great examples of Wizards. They are rarer than fae and witches.
Magic-wielders are not born as witches, fairies or wizards; rather, they make a conscientious choice to become one – through studying runes and simple spells, and experimenting with what feels most natural. By the time they gain their Enchantix/Anti-Enchantix/whatever transformation Wizards have, the deal is sealed and you can no longer switch your allegiance.
