Ages:
The reader is the same age as the Sannins - 26 at the beginning
Sakumo is 38 at the beginning
Tumblr media
A/n: There will be multiple parts to this. I've never seen this concept before but it may be my favorite.
Naruto Masterlist: Here

Your fist hovered over the wooden door, unsure why you had suddenly grown hesitant. Your brother told you to see if Sakumo Hatake needed help with his newborn considering his wife died during childbirth. It was an assignment, nothing more. But something within you made you feel funny. You, of course, knew what was making you feel so funny, but you had to push it down.
The door swung open, making you jump in your spot, "Sakumo! Hello. Um…" Your mouth grew dry as he looked down at you expectantly. The area under his eyes was dark and heavy; you could tell he hadn't been getting any sleep. Raising a newborn was hard, but it must have been impossible when doing it alone. He nodded at you, encouraging you to continue. "I-"
A shrill cry hit your ears, and your eyes traveled inside the dark house. Sakumo sighed, "Do you or Lord Third need something? If not, I need to go soothe Kakashi-"
"No! No. That's why I'm here. Hiruzen asked me to check and see if you needed a hand."
Sakumo grew silent at that, eyebrows creasing as he tried to figure out what to say. Kakashi's cries rose in volume, and your maternal instincts made you ansty, "May I?" Your question flew out before you could stop it, he needed help, and you knew he wouldn't ask for it.
He stepped to the side and allowed you inside his home. You moved toward the source of the crying before finally ending up in the nursery. Your lip curled into a sweet smile, eyes crinkling as you cooed down at the white-haired baby.
"Hi there, Kakashi."
Sakumo stood frozen in the doorway as he watched your hands cradle the baby before bringing him out of the crib and into your arms, "Do you have milk? I can try rocking him to sleep" Sakumo nodded before silently leaving you two to grab the formula. You began to bounce Kakashi, coos and sweet words leaving your lips as you slowly calmed the babies screeching until all that came out were little whimpers.
Sakumo returned a few minutes later with the formula and found you already in the rocking chair. You shot him a smile before extending out your hand for the food, "Thank you." Your whisper was soothing even to him, "Why don't you lay down? I can watch him through the night."
He liked that idea. He hadn't gotten much sleep in the past few weeks. Without another word, the older man headed to his bedroom, leaving you alone with Kakashi.

3 Years Later
Over time, you had grown closer to the Hatake family and began dating Sakumo. Your brother was initially displeased with the predicament but accepted it once he saw how happy you were. As Hiruzen looked down at the adoption paper, he realized you loved this family more than anything else.
"Are you sure you want to adopt Kakashi?"
You nodded at your brother before repositioning the child on your hip. Sakumo stood beside you, bouncing on his toes as he waited for Lord Third's approval. Hiruzen pursed his lips as he took in the three of you. "Are you two going to get married?" Your eyes widened at the question. Marriage was never brought up; it didn't seem like Sakumo wanted that. You didn't blame him, either. He had lost his wife three years prior, so even just dating you felt wrong. "I won't sign these papers until you promise to marry her someday-"
"Hiruzen-"
"My sister deserves a family, and a family includes marriage, not just kids."
"Hiruzen, that is not true, and you know it-"
Sakumo cut off your angry words by grabbing your free hand, "I'll marry her. Don't worry about that part of it. Please, though, for right now, sign the papers. She already is his mother, but I want that to be legally true as well."
Your mouth and eyes were wide open in shock as you looked at Sakumo beside you. Was he being serious?
"Very well," Hiruzen called out before plucking his pen from the desk. "I expect you two to be married within the year" Sakumo smiled at that before letting go of your hand to move towards your brother. "Thank you, Lord Third. For everything"
Hiruzen sent a glare up at the man. He really didn't intend for you to fall in love with the older man; all he wanted was for you to help. His eyes drifted over to you and Kakashi. A smile proudly adorned your lips as you held the three-year-old close to you. While Hiruzen didn't like how this turned out, he couldn't deny that your happiness made him feel better. Hiruzen sighed and handed the papers to Sakumo before leaning back.
"Within the year."
Sakumo gripped the paper and nodded quickly, "Within the year. You have my word."
Tumblr media
The rain pounded down hard against your umbrella as you hurried back home with Kakashi. "Mama, do you think Daddy will be better?" Your blood ran cold at the question. Sakumo had done something against the Ninja code, causing many to turn their backs on him. It broke him, broke him harder than you could heal him. Kakashi's fingers dug into your hand at your silence, silently wincing at how the diamond ring bit into his flesh. His dad had been acting funny. Even though he was four, he knew something was wrong.
"I don't know, baby. I hope so," your voice trailed off as your eyes caught sight of the front door of your house. Sakumo was supposed to be going somewhere; you didn't expect him to return so soon. Your heart raced as you got closer. You tried to be around him whenever possible. It was the only way to keep him safe from himself. "Kakashi baby, sit here, okay? Mama is gonna go in quick."
The four-year-old nodded before sitting in the chair on the porch, happily content with watching the rain. Your breath was shaky as you moved into the house, panic rising in your throat as you saw him on the floor. "Oh… no" Your lip trembled as you approached. Maybe he was just sleeping or relaxing.
Wishful thinking.
"Oh Gods," you cried out quietly, hand clasping over your mouth as you took in Sakumo's lifeless form. Your hand shook violently against your lips, pain seeping through you as you thought through what you needed to do. Who do you go to? Kakashi couldn't see this, but you couldn't just leave him. A name flashed through your head, causing you to inhale sharply. He was the only one who could help you.
You knelt to Sakumo, hand lightly brushing through his hair. His skin was cold against your hand, making you feel lightheaded. "I'm so sorry, Saku," you whispered before kissing his temple. Your tears fell onto his face, cascading down his features before landing on the floor below. Realizing that Kakashi would grow antsy and come in, you stood up and walked towards the door.
Kakashi jumped in the seat as you emerged from the house again, "Is daddy in there?"
Your heart lurched at the question, but you ignored it and picked him up, "We are going to an old friend of mine. Okay?"
Tumblr media
The roof extending over his front door did nothing to shield you and Kakashi from the rain. The young boy shivered against you, and you scolded yourself for forgetting the umbrella back at the house. You took a deep breath as you brought your fist up to pound at the door urgently. Retracting your fist, you pulled Kakashi deeper into you, hoping to warm him up. Your hair was sopping wet, and your makeup was ruined. You knew the man behind the door would be concerned. So you prepared for it.
But you weren't prepared for this.
The door swung open, and your eyes widened. The woman before you was scantily clothed, and you fought the urge to cover Kakashi's eyes. "Can I help you?"
"Uh… Is Jiraiya here?"
She pursed her red lips at that before eyeing the child on your hip. "He's busy."
You breathed a sigh of relief, happy he was at least here. "I need to talk to him. Can you please-"
"Jiraiya! Who the hell is this kid!?"
Your eyebrows furrowed at her sudden shift in demeanor, but looking down at Kakashi made you realize what she was getting at. "Oh. No, no, this isn't-"
"JIRAIYA. So HELP ME IF THIS IS YOUR KID-"
"What the hell are you yelling about-"
Jiraiya stumbled out into the hall before freezing at the sight of you and Kakashi. "Y/n" His voice sent you into a spiral as you took him in. He was wearing nothing but boxers, and he was out of breath. You eyed the pair before giving a sheepish smile. "Sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt but-"
"It's okay…" he breathed as he heard the thickness in your voice. He knew you like the back of his hand, and he knew that something serious had happened.
"What do you need, baby?"
"Baby?! Who the hell is she?!"
"Akira, I think you need to go home-"
"Excuse me!? I'm your girlfriend. She needs to go home."
"I need you," you called out between their arguing, not immensely enjoying being the cause of such discourse. Jiraiya nodded before heading back into the bedroom to get dressed. His girlfriend, Akira, as you learned seconds ago, stormed after him. Ranting and raving about how he was cheating on her. He ignored her, causing her to fly out and storm back towards you. "You think you can just come here and take him from me!?"
"No. I'm-" You cut yourself off. Your next word was going to be 'engaged,' it was something you would say to the men at the bar, and it had become second nature when approaching the subject of dating. But it wasn't true anymore. Were you still engaged? Even if he was dead? You let your gaze fall to the floor. "I'm not interested in dating."
You hoped the words would calm her, but they only seemed to anger her. "So you're going to take him from me and leave him?! You're a real bitch-"
"Akira, that's enough. She's engaged."
Akira shut her mouth at that as she let her eyes travel to your left hand dangling by your side. You grew uncomfortable with her staring and adjusted Kakashi on your right hip. Jiraiya brushed past Akira before grabbing your left hand, "Come on. Take me to where you need me."
You nodded before pulling him with you toward your home. Akira still screamed at him, crying out how she'd never see him again if he kept going, but he didn't listen. His only concern right now was you. You, however, couldn't help but feel bad for causing a fight. "So sorry for that-"
"She doesn't matter right now; what's going on?"
His words were sharp with a warning. You came before everyone else; no one could replace your importance to him. You eyed Kakashi, who looked up at the big man with wide eyes, he had never seen anyone so tall before, and while he was shy, he couldn't help his curiosity. "Mama, who's this?"
"An old friend of mine, Kakashi. His name is Jiraiya."
"He's tall."
You smiled softly at his awe-struck face, but it quickly fell once you realized you'd have to explain what happened in a few moments. Jiraiya didn't like that you weren't verbally telling him what was going on, but your actions and demeanor had him connecting the dots.
The house came into view, and you picked up the pace, anxiety filling your chest as you once more set Kakashi on the chair. "We will be right back, okay? Stay here. Do not come in."
"Mama, I miss Daddy."
Your wince went unnoticed by Jiraiya as he entered the house. "I know, baby, I know. Just please stay here and do not come in" Kakashi bit his lip but nodded. Pressing a kiss to his temple, you started towards the door.
Jiraiya knelt beside Sakumo, fingers pressed into his neck as if checking for a faint pulse. "I don't know what to do" Your words were soft as you moved to him. Jiraiya looked up at you sadly as if apologizing for not finding a pulse; it made you sick. "We need to get your brother-"
"What about Kakashi? He needs to know. How do I… How do I even tell him what happened?"
Jiraiya didn't say anything. For he didn't know how to tell a child that their father was so sad he couldn't keep living. He couldn't bear it. Turning on your heel, you headed back to Kakashi. You wouldn't tell him everything, just enough for his little brain to understand.
The cool air hit your face as you exited the house, lips trembling as you prepared for the most brutal talk of your life. "Can I come in now, mommy?" You shook your head before kneeling in front of him. How the hell were you going to do this?
"Daddy's not okay, is he, mommy?"
You shook your head at him, tears brimming along your lash line as you fought the urge to throw up. "Daddy is not okay," your confirmation caused his brown eyes to well up with tears as you ran a hand through his wet hair. "Can I say goodbye?" You winced at the question before shaking your head no at him. A cry flew from his lips, and you drug him into your embrace, "I'm sorry, baby. Just know he loved you more than anything. Okay?" This would be his first time experiencing death, and you would have to help him through it. You had to be strong for him.
There was no time to mourn.
Kakashi sobbed into your shoulder harder as you rocked him back and forth, cooing and promising him that you were there. Jiraiya stood by the door, watching you comfort the child. He knew you would push the emotions down until you exploded. You would put Kakashi first. Rightfully so, of course, but as he watched you both comfort and fight off your own pain, he realized you needed him around.
Akira would not like this.

I know it's not canon, but ever since I read in a fanfic that the reason Kakashi wears a mask is because the Hatakes have heightened senses of smell (similar to the Inuzukas) due to their connection to ninken, that has been my canon. Like in the fic, Sakumo didn't need one because his sense of smell, while strong, wasn't as strong as Kakashi's making it easier for him to master it easier, but Kakashi just never get the hang of it because of how sensitive his sense of small was, so he wore masks to add a kind of barrier. I cannot for the life of me remember which fanfic I read that had this, but it has fully defined my view of him and why he wears his mask. I mean, it is canon he has a strong sense of smell, I think even stronger than Kiba's? Or at least comparably so. And with the headcanon.
A more recent theory I had is that Kakashi's late, unnamed and unknown mother could have been an Inuzuka which explains where the strong sense of smell comes from but with her dying while he was young, he never had her to show her how to control it as well as an Inuzuka, pretty much just being super strong all the time and needing to be dialed down by the mask maybe with some seals in it.

Sakumo Hatake getting rejected from his crush but he doesn't take no for an answer
Tumblr media
tw: noncon, stalking, yandere, breeding, age difference, power imbalance, domestication, semi-public sex
All characters depicted are 18+
Tumblr media
Sakumo Hatake has had some especially bad luck as of late. His wife had died very recently, leaving him to raise their two year old son alone, his missions have been getting more stressful too, but luckily the White Fang has found a silver lining to all of this; a cute civilian girl that has caught his eye.
She's a cute little thing, much younger than him and his late wife, but still old enough. Sakumo has made a habit out of watching her from afar around the village, for her own safety of course, and he's reached the conclusion that she's perfect for him, she's young, innocent, kind, just the perfect wife and mother for his needs.
Being a revered shinobi among the people of the Hidden Leaf Village, Sakumo feels rather confident in his ability to woo her, so he'll ask her out directly, letting it slip that he's been watching her for quite some time without her knowing. She is very unnerved by the revelation from the man old enough to be her father, so she understandably rejects him, and Sakumo doesn't like that one bit.
He tries to convince her that being with an acclaimed ninja like himself would be good for her, but no dice. Never being one to let things go easily, Sakumo decides that now he has no choice left but to take matters into his own hands.
"Don't move... This will feel good for both of us. Maybe you'll finally stop being shy and realize your feelings for me after I fill you up..."
He'll clamp a gloved hand over her mouth in the alleyway, telling her to be quiet lest someone hear them. He's one of the most respected ninja in the village, so nobody would believe her if she claimed he assaulted her, if anyone saw what was happening, they'd assume she was just being a needy slut for the White Fang.
Sakumo isn't too rough with his delicate little housewife to be, buy he's certainly forceful, bullying his cock inside of her until it's hitting her perfectly fertile womb with every thrust, the sensation making her whine and whimper into his hand as he claims what's rightfully his.
His thrusts will speed up slightly when he imagines knocking her up, making her round with his second child and giving Kakashi a sibling, the mere thought triggers the wolfish primal instinct to breed deep within him, and she is the perfect receptacle for these dark urges of his.
He'll be sure to fill her up thoroughly before he's done with her, gently pulling out of her while informing her of some great news; she's the newest member of his family and clan, whether she likes it or not.
"Atta girl, that wasn't so bad was it? You're just perfect for me, and I know you'll be the perfect mother that my little son needs..."
Sakumo is finally content now, he has a much cuter and much younger wife to replace his dearly departed one, Kakashi has a much needed mother figure, and the Hatake clan is about to gain a new member in just nine short months.

I like to think Hatake's sees hair as a sort of sign of affection. Like, anything with hair is a sign of affection to them.
Head pats, fondness. Brushing hair, close relationship. Doing your hair, you are their closest person.
Like, they see playing or caring for your hair as a sign of affection through caring for you.
To touch your hair is like a cautious sign of fondness to see the person's reaction to the touch. If they are positive they keep doing it until they can card their fingers through your hair. If you respond negatively they would be slower and respectfully of your space and ask you if it's fine to pat your hair or hover a hand over your head before you lean into it.
Playing with one's hair means that they are putting trust in the person that they won't ruin it nor that you will damage it. A show of trust that Hatakes take to see if they have any form of malice or tension based on the person who is playing with their hair seems to care for them. If they pull or tug harshly and keep doing it then it means you don't care for their well being. But if you apologize and learn to be more gentle then it shows that you are being considerate of the person.
Styling or doing one's hair is like the ultimate show of claim a Hatake can make on a person, letting someone touch or do their hair is the second stage of trust before they do it themselves to the person they care for. Because then it shows that you are allowing them to care for you and love you in a personal way. To let a Hatake do your hair, whether that's brushing it or doing a complicated style is a show of a claim or sorts.
Of course, a Hatake will judge you by how well they care for your hair. The best hair care is usually shiny or silky, even fluffy or soft on the claimed, and a well-cared-for Hatake can be seen in the same way.
I just thought of this as Kakashi doing Sakumos hair a lot into a simple ponytail since that was the only style he learned to do correctly and Sakumo always loved it. But when the mission happened and Kakashi was coming home less, Sakumo's hair became loose and unkept which he took as a sign his pack didn't care for him nor trust him anymore.
I imagine Kakashi seeing Sakumos body with his silver hair spread all over the floor when Sakumo cut chunks of it off before killing himself. The person who found Kakashi and Sakumo saw Kakashi brushing out the tangles of the messily cut hair on his dads dead body.
Then I like to think of how Kakashi would pat his student's heads from time to time and I smile.
If we go the Hatake Tobirama and Hashirama route I like to think Hashirama always had his long soft and shiny hair due to Tobi brushing it daily. Even styles it for important events or for practices. Tobirama use to have long hair to but saw how much his brother struggled with it so he cut it short to help him with caring for it. Hashirama was devastated and felt guilty so he would work to make plant oils like rosemary lavender or coconut and almond oils to make his brothers hair shiny and smooth.
Anyways, hair care! Hair care the love language.

Was thinking about my warring states Hatake farmer ocs and realised that Kakashi should never meet these guys because it’d give him such an identity crisis lol
Man’s appears to be the last of his clan (The Hatake, if you will), and depending on how much Sakumo managed to pass on to him and how much Kakashi has even bothered engaging with his heritage after all that, how much does Kakashi even know about his clan customs anyway?
When Konohans living post Sakumo’s death say Hatake they are referring to this one guy, but he’s been raised his whole life to be the model Konohan ninja instead of a Hatake. If he meets a bunch of Hatake with completely different customs (not even ninja! They’re civilian farmers), clan specific cues and behaviour that he had no one teach him to recognise, and they are so wary of outsiders from having grown up in an era of war and bloodline thieves, will they or even Kakashi himself accept him as Hatake?
Fandom likes to paint the Hatake as a super close knit clan so imagine Kakashi he sees these guys together laughing and helping each other and he’s all alone and so damn lonely but he doesn’t know how to get close to them or understand
Basically culturally alienated Hatake Kakashi and you better hope the Hatake clan members he meets are nice and wants to adopt/accept him but there’s inevitably going to be a lot of messy feelings and misunderstandings going on before they get there

an excerpt from the Kakashi ANBU Commander AU I'm working on:
Shisui understood from a very young age that power is not something that many people are born with. Those who are born powerful are extremely lucky, given a gift that allows them to protect, to nurture, to care. But others are not favored by fate in the same way. Kakashi was born a genius, a fate he wouldn't wish on anyone; though many envy the last Hatake, it is a damnation to live with that label. Kakashi was born intelligent, not powerful. The Uchiha ride a fine line between the two, born with the ability to become powerful if life took them on that journey. Many of his clansmen were cursed to relive the day they awakened their sharingan, baptized in the blood of their kin, power given to them only because they had been broken first. Some Uchiha, like Obito, were lucky enough to claim their kekkei genkai in a moment fueled by love. Shisui was not, still burdened by the crystal clear memory of his father being cut down in front of him, the spray of blood warm on his cheek. But Shisui can choose. With the Yondaime in office, their clan has been given back the gift of love, the ability to protect the village a choice, not a requirement born of resentment and hate. Shisui can use the violent gift of his eyes to protect, to record memories of the way the sun glints of the river, the feeling of the Hashirama forest creaking under his feet, the way his clansmen freely interact with the rest of the village, heads tipped back in eternal laughter. The Uchiha were given a second chance, and though the going was tough initially, the village welcomed them back into their fold with open arms. He shudders when imagining what might have happened, had Danzo been able to make his vision a reality. Shisui and Itachi stumble under the weight of that damning title, prodigy, but they never fall, supported by the weight of their clan and the village. Kakashi, however, is not afforded the same luxury. His undeniable status as a once in a generation genius, someone with such a level of intellect that it has distanced him from his peers on mere principle, has left him alone. Sakumo Hatake, once a man who could best the Sannin, the White Fang of Konoha, fell to the ruthlessness of the people he had sworn to protect. Danzo's ministrations and Hiruzens's refusal to intervene left him high and dry, with nowhere to turn but his own sword. That was truly the final nail in the coffin of Kakashi’s fate. Ridiculed by the village, his entire clan laid to waste before he was even a concept in his father's mind and stuck with that damning label of prodigy. Kakashi wasn't born with power, he had to fight for every breath, fight on the frontlines of a war his father bore the blame for, and fight to become a true genius, not just a kid who breezed through the Academy's previously laughable evaluations. Despite his loyalty, despite his service, and despite the fact that Kakashi was an exemplary shinobi who would lay down his life for anyone in the village without question, he was still alone. Kakashi is powerful not because he was born that way but because he chooses to defend a village that would not do the same for him. Kakashi is powerful because he uses his intellect and strength to make Konoha a better place, powerful because he bares the brunt of hatred and the disdain the village shows him and cares for it regardless. Kakashi is strong because he doesn't burn down the village and every ungrateful civilian and shinobi with it. And for that, Shisui would follow his Commander to the ends of the Earth.

Pakkun knows it's time. Has felt it coming for a long while, now.
His muzzle is grey, his joints ache when he tries to climb the stairs outside, so he uses Gai's ramp instead. He can't jump up onto the couch anymore, but that's all right because there are always plenty of cushions for him on the floor.
It's one of the nice things about being back at the Hatake Estate, ever since Kakashi returned with his partner and his Rival shortly before welcoming the little one that totters around, now, knocking into low tables and screaming for his parents.
Pakkun is grateful to have witnessed all of it, grateful that Kakashi senses their time running short, too, and no longer dismisses him unless Pakkun asks.
He doesn't know how to tell Kakashi that it's time. Doesn't know how to grumble the words I love you, but I have to go.
It was never supposed to be like this. Pakkun is a ninja hound, a tracker with an analytical mind and a skill for violence. He and Kakashi made a pact when the latter was still a boy. Pakkun remembers how he didn't flinch as he sliced his thumb open to sign the contract, remembers the strange aloofness he exuded, so unexpected for a pup so young.
Had Sakumo not died, Pakkun imagines he and Kakashi might have maintained a purely professional relationship.
But watching that stoic child crumble into a broken version of the pup he should have been allowed to be tugged at something within Pakkun with a ferocity he typically reserved for missions.
He slept beside Kakashi that night, the way he had once watched over the boy's mother on the eve of his birth. Perhaps it was not exactly a mission, but to protect Sakumo's progeny seemed well within the parameters of his duties at the time.
The thing which blossomed soon after that--affection or respect or whatever it might be--had been unintentional. Without a pup of his own, Pakkun found himself drawn to Kakashi's side increasingly often beyond the scope of missions. Found himself grateful when Kakashi summoned him on his days off, so they could spend time quietly within one another's presence as Kakashi read and Pakkun napped in a sun spot at his feet.
Now, as Pakkun rests on a cushion, watching Kakashi smile with his family as the little boy in his lap unsuccessfully fights off sleep, the creases at the edges of his eyes tell a story of both tragedy and triumph; one Pakkun is proud to have witnessed. To have played an important role in.
He knows he should do something. Make it obvious. That he should lift his grizzled muzzle and say, Boss, to gather the room's attention. Pakkun knows Kakashi would hand his son to Gai or his partner and direct his attention to the little pug he's known all his life, even before his life began.
He's become keenly aware of Pakkun's age in recent months, especially, taking care to spend extra time with him whenever possible.
But Pakkun doesn't want to interrupt the happy moment before him, so he simply huffs a low sigh as he settles his chin on his crossed paws. His eyelids feel heavy, his breath moves slowly in and out, unhurried. He almost laughs because why would his lungs hurry when there is nowhere else he'd rather be?
Bull and Uhei and Shiba and Akino will understand. Bisuke and Guruko and Urushi will not, but that's okay. They will still have one another. Still have Kakashi.
Even without their diminutive leader, Pakkun knows the pack will fight on. Welcome new ninken into their ranks. He knows one day, Kakashi's pup will sign a contract of his own, though he isn't sure the boy will be as composed as his father when he does.
He's inherited all the best parts of both parents, and Pakkun thinks the fact that he's more emotive than Kakashi was at the same age is probably a good thing.
A soft chuckle fills Pakkun's ears and he looks up at Kakashi one last time, notes the twinkling joy in his dark eyes as he listens to Gai tell a raucous story, rocking softly as his son sleeps, face tucked against his chest. Peaceful despite Gai's booming voice.
Pakkun knows it's time. Has felt it coming for a long while, now. He doesn't know if he will stay here, or if his death will act as a dismissal, sending him back to the place where his packmates are.
Whatever happens, he only hopes Kakashi will forgive him for not interrupting the moment to say goodbye. It's too good a moment to shatter with sadness, even if he does wish he could say one more time that he is proud of the man Kakashi has become, of the life he has built.
But Kakashi knows already; words have never been necessary between them to be fully understood. A gift of their pact so many are never lucky enough to experience.
As his eyes slide closed, Pakkun knows Kakashi will understand. Even if he's hurt or angry at first, he's never been one for emotional farewells, either. It is gift enough to know you have been truly cared for. An even greater gift for Pakkun to know Kakashi will be well loved even after he is gone.
I love you, but I have to go. And now I know you'll be okay without me.

"Hatake Sakumo Support Group" or "A tiny Leader"
This post about Sakumo by @badninken made me dig out my very old sketch of baby Obito and baby Kakashi gathering a support group to help Sakumo cope with his depression. @maireyart and i had been imagining a tiny leader Obito who would've absolutely taken action if he'd known the truth about Kakashi's dad.

After you told Kakashi exactly what you were thinking of him, you still expect nothing to change with his behavior. But for once, the man listened.

“Kakashi, could we speak for a moment?”
From experience, he already knew this wouldn’t be good. Kushina had that special look on her face: eyebrows pinched together, a forced smile on her lips, and one of her hands was balled into a fist, ready to gently bonk him on the head and remind him that no matter how much taller he was than his stepmom, her disappointment in him would always hurt more than the little contact of her knuckles against his body. And he also knew that the only reason Kushina restrained herself from instantly giving him a lecture was the fact that they were still in the middle of the open office, with everyone working around them.
Well, not everyone. Automatically, Kakashi looked over to her desk. No one was there, personal belongings had vanished as well. The bad feeling deep down in his guts worsened. Did she call out for today?
He nodded at Kushina, only to look back at the desk. That one desk he always tried to keep in his peripheral vision whenever he entered the office. No one there, still. Of course not, but…
“Kakashi. Now.”
He hadn’t noticed how Kushina walked ahead of him, towards her office. Too captured in wondering where you went. But, measured by the anger radiating from his adoptive mother, he would find out soon enough. He followed slowly, throwing more tentative glances towards the empty desk as he did so.
“What the fuck,” Kushina hissed as soon as the door of her office closed behind Kakashi, “did you do now?”
“Nothing.” Albeit true, the truth still burned like acid in the back of his truth. “What happened?”
“Your coworker came in and wanted to take some personal time off. She looked like she cried her eyes out”, Kushina said, eyes hard and the lines around her face as sharp as a knife. She gestured towards the chair in front of her desk. He followed the silent command, knowing that resisting any further would only lead to a bigger “talk”. The woman didn’t sit, but stood with crossed arms behind her desk, torching his very skin with her eyes. “So, again, and better be honest right now: what have you done, Kakashi Sakumo Hatake?”
For a very short, dangerous moment, Kakashi considered just keeping his mouth shut. What would Kushina do; throw him out?
But then his mind cleared. Yes, Kushina wouldn’t throw him out, but take the appropriate steps on the road of being thrown out. An official reprimand could be very possible, after all the other times he objectively caused trouble to the day-to-day operations, and especially after the last few weeks. The dinner had been his last chance to get off scot-free, and he thought he managed. But he…
I fucking forgot.
“I…” He started, only to pause. This was harder than he imagined it to be. Admitting how much he actually fucked up. “I know the entire point of the dinner was to explain and apologize to her for my… immature and quite frankly, despicable behavior-!”
“No sweet-talking your way out of this one.”
“Okay.” A short nod, then he pressed forward, all the while his fingers wrung themselves into the hems of his sweater. “I may have… forgotten to do one of the two things.”
Kushina sighed; a long and heavy one which made Kakashi wish he would have not said anything at all.
“Kakashi… This is above anything else you have done so far.”
“It wasn’t deliberate!”
“That doesn’t matter. You…” His mother shook her head, a few red strands which had escaped her high ponytail wiping around her head. “No matter what happened today, I have to write you up. It’s more than well deserved at this point.”
Kakashi’s stomach sank. That really had to be expected. “Okay.”
“That makes now two write-ups…”
“Wait, two?”
“Yes, you had one lying around from an incident a few years back with Anko.”
“But she said she would try to retract it?”
“Well, apparently she didn’t,” Kushina clapped her hands together, “and I, for one, am really happy that she didn’t. Two write-ups equal to a mandatory training course in office communication. You know the drill.”
With a low sigh, he waved it off. “And what else?”
“If you don’t know what else you are supposed to do to make things right between the two of you,” Kushina shook her head, the disappointment so clear on her face that it hurt even looking at her, “then I have failed you as a parental figure.”
~ X ~
It should have been a telltale sign to just stay at home when you entered the office and the first thing you saw was Anko leaning against your desk. She was obviously waiting for you, her usual trench coat hanging loosely around her frame and arms crossed over her chest.
“Morning.” Without another word, you pushed past her, around the corner of your desk, only to drop your stuff onto the table. Quickly, your eyes flitted over the surface, as it was now second nature to you.
No note. Another sign that staying home would have been a great idea.
“So…” Anko didn’t look at you, as her eyes were scanning the area around, sharp and attentive to every little detail. “Who needs to be beat up?”
“No one.”
“Bullshit. Doesn’t matter anyway. It has to be Hatake.” Only now, the other woman pulled out her usual resting bitch face. Honestly, Anko was one of the people who could look meaner than anyone without even trying. “Just give me a hint, and he’s done for. High time he gets a bit of a beat down.”
“Oh, really?” You clicked your tongue. “Unfortunately, as tempting that might be, casual violence in the office might be bad for me. And for yourself, of course.”
“Some things are worth the consequences.” Anko smiled; a promising yet dark grin, with way too many teeth showing. “Besides, Hatake also bullied me a bit when I joined, but I made clear to him that he’s out of his league if he keeps that up.”
“Do I want to know?”
The other woman thought for a moment. “Probably not. I also kind of signed something to not talk about it in detail.”
“This makes it much worse, honestly.”
“Oh, not for me.” Anko grinned another feral grin, smug like the cheshire chat. “For the brat.”
“The term “brat” certainly fits him,” you mumbled more to yourself, before grabbing your planner and a pen. “But as I said, he doesn’t need to be beat up. Thanks for the offer, though.”
“Anytime.”
According to the weekly planner in your hands, another weekly meeting for the entire floor with Minato was about to happen. At the thought of sitting yet again in a room with Kakashi and knowing that he knew he finally broke through your shell was torture, but you were an adult. An adult had to face their problems, no matter how much one wanted to run back home, crawl back into their bed and rewatch some childhood cartoons for comfort.
It will be fine. After today, after meeting Kakashi again and having to look into his face, it will be alright that you ripped him a new one. He will never speak about it, I will surely not ask him about it, and we can stay silent about this ordeal — like adults do.
Another deep breath in, with your planner clutched into your hands, then you pushed the door open, with a fake smile plastered onto your face.
Your eyes scanned the conference room, jumping from seat to seat. Once, twice around the table, but there was no silvery mop of hair in sight. Was Kakashi not present today? Maybe he was out sick? Or meeting another client?
“Move.” Anko whispered harshly, before pushing past you. Damn, you had blocked the door and didn’t notice how long you actually scanned the room for Kakashi’s presence. Quickly, you followed the woman, sinking into a chair by her side, all the while trying not to be too anxious about the door opening more and more. Every time, you tried not to look like a deer looking into the headlights of a rapidly approaching car, and you had the distinct notion you failed, measured at Anko’s stifled snorting at every single one of your reactions.
“Relax,” she leaned over when the door opened for the fifth time, spitting Gai into the room, “if Hatake isn’t here already and didn’t enter with Gai, then the chances of him coming into the meeting sink into the Mariana trench.”
“Are you sure?”
“At least 99% sure. And for the 1% off-chance…”
“You put one less spoon of coffee into your cup. I swear, whenever you make the pot for our lunches, the coffee smells like it could peel the tapestry right off the walls.” A weak smile crossed your face at Anko’s grumbled explanations that she needed her coffee that strong.
The door opened again, and again, your eyes flittered over to check on the newcomer. It was Minato, folders under his arm and looking as busy as ever. As you watched your boss get settled, your entire body relaxed, little by little, nerve by nerve. Maybe that meant Kakashi wouldn’t come in today. That would be a gift from the heavens, to not have to face him just one day after the… incident.
“So…” Minato coughed weakly, capturing everyone’s attention easily. “Let’s start with our meeting. I know we’re a bit ahead of time, but I have a scheduled phone call right after this meeting, so it would be beneficial to keep everything short and concise today. I see you, Gai, and yes, I have the potential gym memberships as work benefits still in the back of my mind. No need to worry there.”
As Minato droned on about technical details, your mind started to drift off. In your current project, you weren’t the lead, not even the second lead. So, you could space out a little bit, jotting down haphazardly, unreadable notes and nod absent-mindedly when the others nodded as well.
As your mind wandered, your thoughts inevitably turned to the notes on your desk. Since the entire fiasco with Kakashi started, you barely had time to breathe. Trying to find out who the note writer was who left you such thoughtful scribbles on your desk had been totally out of the question.
Who could it be?
I already crossed out Kakashi due to his handwriting, which doesn’t match with the handwriting in the notes.
I’m going ahead and also crossing out all the people who I know are in committed relationships.
Automatically, your hand with the pen started to write. Letters formed on an empty page of your planner, first slowly, but growing more and more determined.
Minato. Kakashi. Iruka. Asuma. Gai. Genma. Anko. Shizune. Kurenai. Kushina. A complete list of people you were working with on the marketing team. Quickly, you scratched out Minato, Kakashi, Kurenai and Kushina. Minato and Kushina for obvious reasons, and Asuma and Kurenai were obviously smitten with each other, no matter how hard they tried to deny that. And Kakashi’s handwriting didn’t match the notes, so he was also off the table. Which left you still with quite a sizable list of possible secret… note writers.
Thinking of them as secret admirers is… weird.
The door opened once again, and you jolted up, violently ripped out of your thoughts. Your eyes widened as you saw Kakashi walking in, without his usual nonchalance, but carrying two large boxes stacked on top of each other with an annoying sense of elegance around him.
“Sorry for being late,” he dropped the two unremarkable white boxes onto the table, “I had to take a detour because of a black cat crossing my way.”
“Sure.” Minato raised an eyebrow at the boxes. “A birthday I forgot?”
“No, just high time I’m doing something like this.” When Kakashi spoke, his eyes flew over to you, and you found yourself transfixed. Just a mere moment, not longer than the time it took to blink, and yet, this dumbass of a man had you shaking in your chair with anxiety. What did he plan now to humiliate you?
Instead of explaining things, Kakashi opened one of the boxes. Beside you, Anko leaned in to peer over the rim, but subconsciously, you were leaning backwards as if the man just opened the lid to a basket filled to the brim with snakes.
Though, the smell of bread, freshly cut vegetables and fried meat reached your nose instead. The other people in the meeting started to cheer, obviously enjoying the fact that Kakashi got them some free food, but you were merely puzzled.
“I got everyone something to eat,” the man said, arms crossing over his chest and slouching forward, “and I also brewed some fresh coffee for everyone already. It’s in the break room.”
Minato asked the one question which burned on your very soul. “Alright. What kind of spirit possessed you to do this?”
“I…” The man paused, his eyes flickering downwards. “I realized that I have been a terrible colleague so far, to several people in the office.”
“And that has nothing to do with that…” Minato ended the sentence right there, but Kakashi nodded.
“The communication seminar I have to attend is due to my actions. Yes, partly. But mostly because,” he breathed loudly in, “Because my behavior caused something I’m not proud of. So, I want to sincerely apologize. To everyone, of course, but especially to a colleague I treated more than unfairly during the last weeks.”
Again, his eyes found yours. Every muscle in your body went tense, anticipating and yet dreading the next words out of his mouth. But he didn’t talk to you directly, half-smiling which showed an adorable dimple on his cheek, but turned quickly to the others. “I’m asking not only for forgiveness, but for your willingness to work with me while I better myself. I can’t promise anything, but I’m ready to go forward. This,” he gestured towards the breakfast-spread, “is just a small show of my gratitude for bearing with me for so long.”
The dull cheer of the other present people echoed in your ears. You blinked in quiet confusion, trying to not lose your mind.
Kakashi, apologizing publicly. Kakashi, bringing breakfast for everyone in the office to make up for his assholery. Kakashi, looking at you with those dark, dumb, pleading eyes, as if he was trying to convey something.
What does he want?
Obviously, as Minato also still had to take his business call, the seriousness of the meeting quickly dissipated. The others quickly indulged themselves in the breakfast, grouping up to snack away and some even walking up to Kakashi to talk with him. Thankfully, no one noticed that you stood up, grabbed your notebook and left the room. Not even Anko, but she was too busy eating her unexpected sandwich than to notice. You couldn’t blame her, they smelled delicious. But you just wanted — no, needed — a few quiet moments to collect your scrambled thoughts.
The floor with all its running PCs but no humans around had a bit of an eerie feel. Yet, the silence was exactly what you wanted. Gently, you placed down your notebook on your desk, eyes scanning across the surface for a by now more than welcomed bright-yellow note. But nothing; no little pick-me-up or cheerful comment about the day which would distract you from the adult-task of having to possibly change your opinion about Kakashi Hatake.
No, I don’t have to change anything.
He apologized in front of the entire office.
And? He didn’t specify anything, didn’t clarify. He could have made this entire show just to appease me.
Why couldn’t you just worry about the identity of your secretive notewriter? Instead, you had this absolute trash fire on your hands, constantly having to worry if you were going to be fired because of badly hidden nepotism or if Kakashi wanted to bully you out of the office for good.
You sighed weakly, only to shake your head. Again, no time to worry about this. You had to start work, and maybe, maybe, you could worry about Kakashi a bit more in the evening, when you were back home. First off, though, you would take a little bit of an advantage of a free coffee pot as well as an unoccupied kitchen.
Like Kakashi promised: when you entered the break room, the rich scent of freshly brewed coffee greeted you. But not only that, he had also prepared a kettle. The metal of the kettle was still hot as you touched it, nearly singing your fingertips off.
And just as you inspected the damage, the gentle rap of knuckles against the wooden door frame made you look up. There was Kakashi, like he popped out of a dark corner of your mind to haunt you. In his dark-emerald-green pullover and black jeans, he looked as casual and comfy as always, and as he leaned there, his unruly hair fell into his face like he came straight out of a shampoo commercial.
How unfair. Why does an asshat like him have hair like that?
But even your thoughts weren’t as frustrated and angry with him as before, as in the last days, as yesterday. Like you couldn’t bring up the energy anymore to hate him properly. With a weary sigh, you leaned against the kitchen counter, arms crossed over your chest and trying very hard to look into his eyes without flinching.
“So…”
“So, yeah.” Kakashi shrugged weakly as he leaned casually against the frame of the door. “I’m owing you a private apology.”
“Great. Get started, then.”
“Ouch. But I deserve that one, no questions asked. What you didn’t deserve, though, was my attitude towards you.” There was no small glint in his eyes, no laughter on his face. Just honest sincerity, and you had no idea what to do with it. So, with your face like stone, you just listened to him.
“I apologize for how I treated you. I acted like a child for no reason at all. You deserved better than that, and still deserve more. I can only hope you will forgive me one day, and even then, you’re not obligated to do anything.” One of his hands came up to scrub through his hair, only to burrow itself back into the pockets of his pullover. “I’m sorry for being an absolute asshole in the first place, for treating you like an intern. I’m sorry for being overall an antisocial asshole. And I’m sorry for not giving you this apology when you actually needed to hear it.”
Finally. After all the weeks of worrying, of being angry, and tired of having to worry, you finally had a real, honest, sincere apology. One which sounded like Kakashi actually meant it. Slowly, you nodded, paused, then nodded again.
“Yeah”, you said, “that’s… that’s great to hear. Thank you.”
“Do you still want to work together on the Akatsuki-Project?”
“Of course.”
“Good.” Kakashi straightened himself out. “If my behavior bothers you again, please instantly go to Minato and Kushina and write a complaint. Do not come to me to ask me to stop, just go to them directly.”
“Never had anything else in mind.”
“... Good. That’s… good.” Though, you couldn’t help but believe that Kakashi hoped for just another answer. Too bad. He wouldn’t get another one, not on this particular matter.
After a long moment, Kakashi nodded again. “Alright. Anyway, sorry for keeping you here.”
“Well, it was kind of worth it. To finally get an apology, at least.”
“So…” He shoved his hands deeper into his pockets, shoulders drawn up and peeking through the strands of his unruly hair. “Anything going on today?”
You paused. What kind of question was that? Were there any deeper intentions hidden within those words which you couldn’t decipher? Or was he mocking you, thinking that now as he apologized already, he was off the hook for any wrongdoings on his part? Or, last but not least, were you overthinking yet again and trying to find a fault where there was none present?
“You know…” you breathed in, “just work. Nothing else, pretty much.”
“Oh. Okay, okay. Sorry, that was a stupid question.”
“Don’t apologize too much, it’s going to wear out at some point.”
“I don’t know about that one. Anyway, good luck today. If there’s anything you need me for, you know where to find me.”
Again, you nodded. Slowly, deliberately, and still trying to gauge if Kakashi was serious or not. You just couldn’t really grasp the man and his character, if he was serious or more of a jokester. Maybe something in between, with a bit of social awkwardness.
Nevertheless, it was hopefully now over — for good, this time. Maybe, you could now focus on your work, on trying to prove yourself, and potentially even on finding out who wrote the little notes and left them on your desk.
~ X ~
Kakashi was in the middle of staring at the still empty page of his notebook, all the while twirling a pen between his fingers, when Minato walked up to his desk. The man waited for a second, drilling holes into Kakashi’s soul, only to rap his knuckles ever so gently against the wooden surface.
“Knock, knock.”
“Who’s there?”
“Your boss.” But Kakashi knew the tone Minato had swinging in his voice: all soft and mushy and unbearably proud. No, that wasn’t his boss talking with him, but his step-father. Only after a look around, he dropped the small book onto the table and gave Minato his entire focus. “What’s up?”
“I had a talk with Kushina yesterday. About what… she talked to you about.”
“Yeah. I figured that much.”
“I honestly didn’t know if you would do something about it.”
“As I just proved, I can do something about it, and I can do it properly.”
“I didn’t question your commitment, just your… awareness.”
That was probably the kindest possible reminder to not overdo it that Kakashi ever received from Minato. Kakashi sighed, but fell silent. Even when his boss was also his adopted father, he himself always had asked to never be treated differently to his colleagues, and now he paid the rightful price for declining just a little bit of nepotism.
“Nevertheless, I’m glad you managed to find a way to rectify the situation, for everyone involved. Very smart move to bring breakfast for everyone.”
“I learned from the best.”
Minato smiled a thin, weary smile, nothing more than a quick uptilt of his mouth. “Don’t overdo it. Still, I’m glad. Now, keep up the good work, I’m expecting big things from the Akatsuki campaign.”
And that, Kakashi pondered, was the biggest problem. Expectations. The expectations Minato had in him, the expectations everyone else had in him, the expectation Kakashi himself had in his work and skills and creativity, were the problem. What to do when he would fail all the expectations?
Minato had long left the desk when Kakashi wrote in big, fat letters the word “expectations” into his notebook. Another twirl of the pencil around his fingers, and he went to work. Sometimes, one had to force oneself just a little bit to get some results.

Anbu! Kakashi taking his sister
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: 18+ ONLY, incestuous relationship, purity kink, piss mention, graphic noncon, mentions of blood, breeding, female reader, DARK CONTENT-DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT
Tumblr media
Imagine that Kakashi is a nasty siscon. He has always been somewhat obsessed with his youngest sister, after all they were so close during childhood while Sakumo was away on missions. Kakashi naturally took on the parental-protector role.
The trauma and psychological break of losing his team would irreversibly change Kakashi. Even his sister can feel the palpable change in their interactions. He is much more demanding of her submission and stone-cold faced, his sister is the only one left in this God forsaken world that he cares for. When the time comes when Kakashi is in the ANBU, he will see first-hand what happens to beautiful, young girls like his sister that get brutally assaulted. The ANBU is notorious for assaulting and impregnating young women and Kakashi has even joined in on the debauchery.
He comes home after long missions, enemy blood staining his uniform and virginal blood coating his cock. Kakashi immediately goes to the shower to wash away his sins, but his mind always lingers back to that dark fantasy–His sister.
It makes his stomach twist and rage burn inside at the thought of someone tainting his sister in the same way he does to other women. While he feels no remorse for joining in on the gangraping with his ANBU team, he still cannot help but feel murderous at the thought of someone taking his sister’s virginity.
Kakashi absolutely instills terror into his sister. He tells her in great detail what happens to careless dumb girls such as herself when they don’t stay home. He recounts how they would be brutally assaulted and impregnated with bastard children as punishment for not listening to their older brothers. By the end of his rant of explicit details, his sister is already crying into his chest. She begs Oni-chan not to let anyone take her precious virginity. Please protect her honor and never let any harm come to her. Of course, Kakashi swears on his life he would never let another soul touch his sister. However, he made no promises of himself to not touch her.
It may be awhile before Kakashi would act on his lust for his sister. She has grown up to become a beautiful full-figured women. She turns the head of every man in Konoha. It is absolutely sickening to the male Hatake. He needs to punish her for her carelessness; scare his sister into becoming the perfect housewife who would never think of leaving their older brother.
He will have it arranged for some ANBU members to take his sister off the street and assault her. The only rule, no penetration. That rule must absolutely not be broken and her hymen must remain intact. The ANBU will do their job of touching the poor girl: feeling up her body, masturbating and cumming onto her clothes, even pissing on her if they feel like she is not scared enough. Their team captain made it clear–scare the girl to death.
When she wakes up in the disgusting alley with her clothes torn and panties missing, the younger sister is heartbroken and in despair. She immediately seeks out her older brother in comfort, who opens his arms to her. He allows her to cry her little heart out while reminding his sister this was what he warned her about. If she has just stayed home, this would have never happened.
The little scare is exactly what makes the sister stay glued to Kakashi’s side. He no longer assaults women when out on missions with the ANBU, they could never compare to the beauty of his sister. After all, he only fucked them just so satiate his appetite. Now that he has his sister right where she belongs, he no longer feels like holding back his desires.
Kakashi will take his sister’s virginity. Insisting that he must be the one to do it before an ANBU comes and takes her. She is crying and begging for Kakashi to not do it, but he reminds her to always listen to his commands. He is far more gentle with his sister than he was with previous victims, but he can’t help but feel euphoric when his cock bottoms out–touching his sister’s cervix.
The older Hatake wonders if he impregnated her would she stay by his side forever. Everyone would obviously know who the father was, and see that his beautiful sister was claimed. He makes good work to creampie his sister for days, always makes sure she is filled to the brim of fertile sperm. He cannot wait for the day his sister is fat, round with a big belly holding his child. This is exactly where his woman belongs, underneath him.

What if Sakumo had lived and how much did Kakashi's life change after Minato became Hokage?
[Part 5]
"Did you want to see me, Hokage-sama?" - Kakashi silently entered the office and quietly closed the door behind him.
Minato looked away from the documents and looked at the teenager.
"Yes, thank you for coming so quickly", - Minato put the folders aside and motioned for Kakashi to come closer. - "I need to discuss something with you."
Kakashi nodded and involuntarily straightened his back.
"I want to give Obito the rank of jonin", - said Minato.
"He will be overjoyed", - Hatake grinned, imagining his friend’s face.
"Obito has been working hard lately. I think he fully deserves it", -Minato bound his fingers and put his chin on them. - "There is something else."
Kakashi silently waited for the continuation. He noticed traces of fatigue on the Fourth Hokage's face. The work was not kind to him at all.
"I want Obito to lead a new team of three", - Minato broke the silence. - "And I also want you to join the ANBU and become the captain of my personal guard."
Fourteen year old teenager froze in one place, stunned.
"New team?" - the teenager frowned in confusion.
"The three of you have done well on missions under your leadership, Kakashi. But if Obito plans to become Hokage in the future, he needs to gain experience in leadership."
"Do you want me to join ANBU?"
Minato sighed heavily and closed his eyes for a few seconds.
"I understand that I've been putting too much on you all this time. I left you as captain in my place. You couldn't help but feel the weight of responsibility. But now I ask you for more. Many in the village believe that I am unworthy of the title of Hokage. With you as my right hand, I would feel much more stable. I need you in ANBU, Kakashi."
Kakashi covered the distance and stopped in front of the guy. Minato looked up at him with tired eyes. Kakashi tried to give his face a determined and at the same time calming expression.
"I will always be on your side, sensei", - the teenager got down on one knee. - "And I am honored to be your right hand."
"Thank you, Kakashi", - Minato exhaled with noticeable relief and smiled. - "Now, won’t you run after Obito?"
After Kakashi found Obito and brought him to the Hokage's office, dusk began to fall on the village. The teenager headed towards the house. All the way he thought about Minato's words.
"I’m home", - he said automatically, closing the front door behind him.
The delicious smell of food reminded him that in today's chaos he had missed lunch. Sakumo's cooking skills improved a lot after he took several lessons from Duy. But despite his hunger, Kakashi barely touched his dinner.
"You’re too thoughtful today", - the teenager heard his father’s voice. - "Something happened?"
"Minato sensei is disbanding our team", - no matter how hard Kakashi tried, he could not hide the bitterness in his voice. - "He wants Obito to become captain of another team, and for me to join ANBU."
"ANBU?" - Sakumo put down his chopsticks and bound his fingers. - "Minato wants you by his side."
Kakashi nodded.
"What's bothering you?"
"I…" - the teenager sighed heavily. - "I don’t want our team to disband."
Kakashi looked away. Sakumo pursed his lips.
"We worked well together", - the teenager continued. - "And I’m used to always being with them. I'm used to the fact that I'm nearby and can always protect them. And now I will work alone, while they will be in a team with people they don’t know. I… worry about them."
"It’s completely normal to worry about your friends, Kakashi," - Sakumo said slowly. - "You worry about them and want to protect them. But, unfortunately, you won't be able to always be there for them."
"I know", - Kakashi answered barely audibly. - "I’m just afraid that something might happen to them when I’m not around."
"I'm sure Obito and Rin can take care of themselves. They may be just as confused as you right now. You need to talk to them and give them confidence. You're a great friend, Kakashi."
Kakashi winced and looked up at his father.
"Do you have friends, father?"
"Don’t worry about me, Pup", - Sakumo smiled at his son. - "I have one and it’s quite enough. Finish your dinner before it gets cold."
Kakashi nodded and picked up his chopsticks.
"Thank you, father."
The next morning, Kakashi stood in Minato's office in full ANBU uniform.
"Kakashi, please take off your mask", - Minato asked. - "I have great news. You are the first person to know about this."
Kakashi nodded seriously.
"Kushina is pregnant," - Minato said quickly and smiled widely.
"Congratulations!" - Kakashi felt himself smiling back.
"Thank you", - the guy sincerely thanked. - "I have a first mission for you. I want you to guard Kushina throughout her pregnancy."
Kakashi froze in shock. Of all the people in the village, Minato decided to give this mission to him - to protect the life and health of Kushina and the unborn child. Emotions quickly changed on Kakashi's face. He still hasn’t answered anything, trying to put the information in his head.
"Kakashi", - Minato’s soft voice brought him out of his thoughts. - "There is no person in this village whom I trust more than you."
The teenager held his breath and bowed deeply.
"I won't let you down, nii-san!"
"I believe you," - Minato smiled at the usual address; it seems that Kakashi didn’t even notice how he called him big brother. - "Do you know when your uncle is coming back?"
"No", - the teenager shook his head. - "I can send Pakkun to him."
"I will be very grateful to you. I want to tell Jiraiya sensei this news as soon as possible. I don't have much to do today and I'm already heading home, so you can start your mission tomorrow. In the meantime, rest."
Kakashi nodded goodbye and left the Hokage's office. He headed to the nearest training ground and called Pakkun. Having conveyed the message to Ninken, Kakashi looked after him thoughtfully.
"Rival!" - he heard a loud voice behind him.
A few seconds later, Guy materialized opposite him.
"You look somehow different", - Guy carefully examined the teenager from head to toe.
"Minato sensei appointed me to ANBU", - Kakashi nervously moved his shoulder, he was still not used to his new form.
"Cool!" - Guy threw one fist up. - "You never cease to amaze me, Rival!"
Kakashi felt his cheeks turn slightly pink at the seemingly simple compliment.
"Will you sit down?" - Kakashi patted the ground next to him, Guy immediately sat down. - "I have great news."
"Anything even cooler than your promotion?" - the teenager was sincerely surprised.
Kakashi nodded.
"Kushina-san is pregnant."
Guy opened his eyes in surprise.
"Congratulations, Kakashi!" - he exclaimed loudly and hugged a teenager in his arms.
"Are you congratulating me? Why?" - Kakashi said barely audibly, trying to get out of the suffocating embrace.
"What do you mean why?" - Guy pushed the gasping teenager away from him and looked carefully into his eyes. - "Your little sister will be born soon! Or little brother!"
"Little brother?" - Kakashi asked in bewilderment in a hoarse voice.
"Or little sister", - Guy added in a serious tone, and then smiled brightly. - "You will become an older brother!"
Kakashi blinked in shock.
"I…"
"I can already imagine you with a little baby in your arms", - Guy sighed dreamily, still not letting go of the teenager’s shoulders.
Kakashi remained silent, ignoring Guy's passionate monologue. Too many events happened in these two days.
***
Kakashi walked quickly towards the Hatake family residence. Minato returned home a little earlier and let him go, knowing that today all the teenagers were going to celebrate Obito's birthday.
"Kakashi!" - a loud voice came from behind the teenager.
Kakashi skidded to a halt and looked around.
"Do you have a minute?"
"You know that we are a little late for your birthday, right?" - Hatake asked, raising one eyebrow up questioningly.
Obito ruffled his hair in embarrassment and laughed awkwardly.
"Something happened?" - Kakashi immediately tensed.
"No!" - Obito shook his head negatively and put his hands in front of him. - "I just... wanted to talk to you."
"Okay", - Kakashi narrowed his eyes skeptically. - "About what?"
"Well, you know", - Obito’s eyes nervously darted around. - "You are now in ANBU, I was given a different team, and Rin decided to stay to work at the hospital. I... now I will spend less and less time in the village. Although I would like to stay here longer..."
Kakashi sighed tiredly.
"Get to the point."
Obito flinched when he heard Kakashi's sharp, commanding voice.
"I know that Rin is in love with you", - he said suddenly. - "And I know that you like her too. Now you will spend more and more time together while I am somewhere far away on missions..."
As Obito continued to speak, Kakashi noticed a flash of green color out of the corner of his eye. Hatake swore quietly and frowned.
"Obito, stop, shut up", - he interrupted his friend’s monologue. - "I don't like Rin. And she's not in love with me."
Obito froze, stunned.
"Just ask her out, idiot!" - Kakashi finally said before disappearing into thin air, leaving his discouraged friend alone.
Kakashi landed silently on a tree branch. As he had expected, Guy was training at his favorite training ground. He practiced his blows with a completely unreadable expression on his face. Sighing heavily, Kakashi jumped to the ground.
"Yo."
Guy flinched and put too much force into the blow, breaking the wooden post. Kakashi swallowed. Guy stood still for a moment, then turned to him, a broad smile shining on his face.
"Rival! Have you come to challenge me?" - the teenager exclaimed too loudly. - "What is it this time? Rock climbing? Arm wrestling? Or maybe…"
"You heard everything", - Kakashi interrupted him.
Guy's smile faltered.
"Yes", - the teenager lowered his eyes to the ground and shrugged his shoulders embarrassedly. - "Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, I was just passing by."
Kakashi took a step forward when Guy immediately took a step back.
"In any case, even though I had no right to overhear a conversation about your personal life, this is still great news!"
Kakashi frowned. He tried to catch Guy's eye, but he stubbornly did not look at him.
"You... both of you deserve to be happy. I..." - Guy paused, and then added in a muffled voice. - "Happy for you."
"It’s not like that," - Kakashi said quickly. - "I don't like Rin."
He immediately felt a prick of shame. This is the second time this evening he has uttered these words. He really liked Rin, but never in a romantic way. He always treated her like a sister.
"And Rin was never really in love with me", - he continued. - "In fact, she has been liking Obito for some time, and this idiot can not understand it. They are even worse than Asuma and Kurenai. Those two don’t announce their relationship, but at least they confess to each other, and these two will be beating around the bush until the end of time."
Guy remained silent, which made Kakashi very nervous.
"So, you don't like Rin?"
"No", - Kakashi shook his head to be convincing. - "Actually, I..."
"There you are!" - they heard an exclamation and turned towards the voice. - "Everyone was already tired of waiting for you and sent me on a search."
Genma leaned his shoulder against the tree and cast a lazy glance at them.
"How long will you stand here? We’re late for the party."
Guy shrugged and stretched his lips into a smile.
"It's not good to keep friends waiting."
Kakashi was still trying to catch his eye, but the teenager had already walked towards Genma. Hatake sighed heavily and followed him. Guy noticeably took the lead, while Kakashi and Genma walked leisurely behind.
"Interrupted some important conversation?" - asked Genma, the senbon clutched in his teeth flashed brightly in the moonlight.
Kakashi chuckled.
"Don't pretend like you didn't hear anything."
Genma smirked at the edge of his lips. They continued walking in silence until they reached the cafe. The loud voices of their friends could be heard from the establishment.
"If you break his heart, I’ll break your face", - Genma drawled slowly, making Kakashi freeze at the entrance.
"You know that this will never happen", - Kakashi gave him a serious look.
Genma shrugged. There was a barely hidden worry in his dark eyes.
"I know, but I still have to warn you. I am his best friend. And I will protect him from everyone. Even from you."
Kakashi nodded silently and entered the cafe, still feeling Shiranui's gaze on his back.

Note
i saw this and this is SO perfect for shikako: "ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem" (with the sword, she seeks peace under liberty) - maybe something with the shikabane-hime in the gardens-verse?
Okay anon, I did learn a few things about this phrase, specifically: The phrase is often loosely translated into English as "By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty." The literal translation, however, is "she seeks with the sword peaceful repose under liberty." The "she" in question refers to the word manus from the full phrase manus haec inimica tyrannis ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem, which means "this hand, an enemy to tyrants, seeks with the sword peaceful repose under liberty."
Which, you know, is VERY in flavor of my usual “let’s murder Danzo, that’ll take care of at least 95% of the world’s issues” as seen within the Shikako Nara’s Guide To Delinquency and Military Insurrection series which is basically where I put all of my messing around in the Gardens-verse.
But I find myself interested in the, hm… steps of translation for the phrase… like, the original specifically saying “this hand, an enemy to tyrants” which is then removed from the final phrase. However, the final phrase does still keep the sword and also specifically says peace ONLY under liberty.
So my interpretation of this is: once “this hand, [she who is] an enemy to tyrants,” goes away, all that remains is the sword, ie violence, and the prioritization of liberty over peace. Which actually makes me wonder if… hm… I wouldn’t necessarily say a “dark turn AU” but a… pessimistic version of the “let’s murder Danzo, that’ll take care of at least 95% of the world’s issues.” What happens to Konoha as an institution after Danzo is dead and all of his machinations are brought to light?
ESPECIALLY considering how much he claimed to be merely following the Nidaime’s vision. Imagine the repercussions! The implication that Konoha has been so twisted and rotten from its founding. And I’m not saying it’s a return to the Warring Clans Era, because it’s not as if the clans would necessarily rekindle any issues with each other, but how much of the village infrastructure is suspect? How many people did Danzo influence either with the ROOT seal or with Shisui’s eye?
How many clans then think, we are not free under Konoha?
For example, the twins vows when becoming genin prioritize clan, then allies, then teammates, then the village. (I know they had different vows, but I think that’s roughly the order of priority for both of them?) But I can’t imagine—given Hatake Sakumo’s treatment by Konoha when he saved his teammates and “started the war” (although I do have Danzo-related headcanons for that, of course)—that vow would prevent a court martial or disciplinary action.
So if being a good soldier of Konoha contradicts being a good member of the clan, then the existence of Konoha itself is a contradiction to a clan’s existence—I am, of course, exaggerating for the sake of the premise, and I guess what I’m saying is that the premise is:
Shikako killing Danzo does solve a lot of problems, but then unleashes a whole lot of other problems which, unfortunately, a single murder will not solve. Might be multiple murders. Or maybe a war. Whoops.
Because! The fact that the phrase wasn’t shortened to just “Peace [Only] Under Liberty,” the fact that the “by the sword” part was kept is interesting. But a sword without a hand behind it, a sword without an enemy to target, is just an unsheathed weapon that could harm allies or yourself.
So that is the premise, but I don’t know what the plot would be, per se…
OR maybe this is a universe in which someone that ISN’T multiverse-traveling Shikabane-hime clocks Danzo’s rancid vibes and kills him but without a plan to deal with the fall out or a way to deescalate the situation. Like… if it were Shisui and/or Itachi who killed Danzo but in a kind of panicked way. The Uchiha clan is already SO SUSPICIOUS to the rest of the village (at least, that’s the impression they’ve been given) so they can’t come out with a laundry list of Danzo’s crimes and everything will be fine.
Okay, this isn’t the prompt necessarily, but the idea of two freaked out teenage Uchiha just panic whispering to each other over the corpse of Danzo who they just killed while Shikako watches from the shadows, bemused, because… well… they beat her to the punch, but also they have no idea what they’re doing. It’s very funny.

Guardian (Part 4)
Jiraiya x Sarutobi!Reader
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
Synopsis: Your brother gave you an assignment, "Go ask Sakumo Hatake if he needs help with his newborn." It was a simple task, but it snowballed into so much more.
Naruto Masterlist: Here
Tumblr media
A knock sounded out through the man's apartment. He looked up from his scroll, ears straining to check if it was his imagination. His eyebrows furrowed as the knock sounded out again. No one ever came to visit him; this must be urgent. The knocks slowly turned desperate, and he moved swiftly towards the front door. Not bothering to look, he flung the door open as the visitor's fist came down. It almost slammed into his chest, but he quickly caught her wrist. He chuckled down at her wide eyes before letting her go finally.
"What can I do for you, Y/n?"
Tumblr media
Your e/c eyes were wide as he dropped your hand, his cold skin causing goosebumps to erupt along your arms. "Long time no see… How have you been?" Your breathing was shallow as you took him in. He was dressed down for the evening, only making you painfully aware that you had come so late in the afternoon. "I've been better. You?" Your attention sharpened at his answer before nodding at them as if silently telling him you were in the same boat. Silence fell between you, making you grow nervous under his sharp gaze. This was a bad idea. "Is there something you need?"
A nervous giggle fell from your lips before you could stop it. His eyebrow shot up at that, and he bit down a smirk threatening to appear on his normally stoic face. His golden eyes practically begged you to answer him, as if he was dying to know why you decided to show up on his doorstep after years of no contact. Your eyes dropped to your feet as embarrassment crawled up your neck.
He couldn't help but cock his head down at your shy demeanor. How long has it been since the two of you last kissed? He couldn't remember, but being this close to you made it painfully evident that it was too long. That he had gone for far too long without you beside him. His hand caressed your cheek, and your head snapped back up to meet his gaze.
"Do you think you can train me?"
With how fast you caved under his gaze, it was as if he had put a spell on you. You then realized, as he inched closer to you, that you were no longer 18, and this was no longer acceptable. Letting out a sheepish laugh, you backed out of his embrace. "I'm asking only as a friend. I apologize if you thought this was anything more than that, Orochimaru."
The pale man shot a tight-lipped smile down at you but backed up anyway, hoping to play off his failed attempt at seduction as if he was just testing you. "Just wanted to make sure. Training, you say? How long have you been out of the Ninja world anyway?" The question was double-sided as it would have answered his other question - when was the last time you two kissed?
"Oh… Let's see. I stopped a couple of years before Sakumo… eight, maybe?"
Eight years. How did he manage to survive that long without you anyway? Orochimaru nodded as he leaned against the doorway, "And you want me to train you? Aren't you with Jiraiya-"
"We are living together, yes, but that's it. He's also way too busy to be training me again…."
You trailed off, but he remained silent, watching you as if trying to predict your next move. You sighed in exasperation, quickly remembering why you distanced yourself from him in the first place. "Listen, if you don't want to, that's fine. I can just ask an academy teacher-"
"Nonsense. I'll do it. Meet me at the training grounds after you drop off Kakashi for school tomorrow. We will start with the basics; I want to see how much you still remember."
His heart lurched as you broke into a beaming smile, "Oh, thank you, thank you, Orochimaru!!!" You exclaimed before flinging yourself onto him. He grunted as you hugged him tightly, but before he could return it, you had already separated. He tried to hide the blush forming on his cheeks, but thankfully, you were heading back toward your apartment without giving him any more attention.
"I'll see you tomorrow!"
Orochimaru let out a breath of relief as you disappeared from his line of sight. Training you was going to be complicated. But keeping his cool was going to be much harder.
