Rai knew she couldn't fix him. She wasn't able to heal his past trauma. She couldn't mend the scars that marred his skin. There was nothing she could do. She knew that.

She couldn't bring his friends back. She couldn't turn back time or right the wrongs. There was no way she could take the fall for any of his wrong doings. She couldn't catch him in his past falls.

She could not control him. She couldn't do things for him. She couldn't take away those feelings of dread, depression, and pain.

The only thing she could provide was some sort of comfort. Some safe space. A voice of reason during turbulent waters. At least for the time being. She could be a sounding board for him.

She couldn't stop him. He had a calling, a job. She knew too well the burdens of their occupation. She tried her best to be there when he got back or when he would leave.

She didn't need to be a part of his life every minute down to the second. She trusted him.

He was his own person. If he enjoyed her company, that was on him. She didn't force him to spend time with her. She wanted to be with him. And she also wanted her space.

Infact, Rai believed she was just as broken as him. And because they were broken, they fit together so well. Filling up cracks and holes that had worked their way into their foundations.

She knew she couldn't promise him sunshine. But she was willing to stand with him no matter how hard the rain fell.

I looooove his big chunky scarf and mysterious hat! One of my favorite looks on him actually. Does he look like this in the Boruto episodes too? I can't remember this part but I might have missed an episode and if I did I really need to go back.

The way he holds his kunai like a gun in that one panel with clear spaghetti western movie vibes <3 Love that he fights with a kunai at all, like he always has. Nothing flashy from the former Hokage, just the most basic ninja tool and skill.

Also love how he's so understimulated by his desk job that he secretly sneaks out to take down rogue nin now and then. You can't keep an old hound inside without enrichment or exercise, that's cruel. Kakashi needs to hunt.
