Experimentation is without its bouts of failure. Rather than to indicate poor execution, lapses in technical adequacy may serve as a means to refinement and a redirection of the experiment's goals.

That is, if such redirection must lead Rui Kamishiro a couple years back into the past without any means for return.

It was unintentional, really. Rui was merely revisiting one of his previous inventions to use for their next show. Usually he'd opt to start from the scratch when it comes to creating special effects and devices for a creative approach. However, he'd decided that a revision of his inventions may yield an interesting outcome.

And interestingly so, tinkering with a time machine did.

Rui surveys the area that he was transported at and finds himself standing on a familiar street in the city with lines of houses surrounding him. It is a relief that he wasn't sent into another country due to the time reversal, that only lessens the amount of effort he needs to exert to go back.

Although...

Rui turns, expecting to see the same dome-shaped machine to greet him but instead he meets an open gate to a large mansion. Before his muddled, sleep-deprived mind can register the familiar structure of the front garden and entrance, the door opens, revealing a boy in his middle school uniform.

As one would expect to react to a stranger on their doorstep, the boy yelps, staggering a few steps back into the room in shock. "Y-You—!"

Sunset hair, vibrantly colored eyes and a loud, booming voice of a million decibels—it is without a doubt that Tsukasa Tenma is the boy standing there in front of him.

"Hello," he greets, still a bit dumbfounded from the fast pace of occurrences flashing by him in seconds. "I'm sorry for intruding you."

"Oh! W-Well, there's no need for apologies. I just wasn't mindful is all!" Unexpectedly, a rush of red flushes the star's cheeks. "May I help you?"

There's a couple of things to note. One is that Tsukasa clearly doesn't recognize him and two is that he's definitely, without a doubt in his brilliant mind much younger than his actual age.

Much shorter too, he thinks then giggles internally, but Tsukasa-kun has always been rather short.

At the back of his mind, Rui realizes that interacting with a Tsukasa-kun in the past may alter the timeline of their first meeting and possibly cause a time paradox and that he must find a way to evacuate quickly. It is a reasonable thought, one that should be heeded and listened to in caution but something within Rui's desires drives him to step closer to the flustered student and ruffle the strands of his hair.

He smiles, wearing that one particular smile that he knows Tsukasa maddens over. "There's a favor actually~ Promise you won't tell anyone? It's a bit of a personal matter."

"I-I—!" As expected, Tsukasa's blush intensifies and his eyes restlessly look back and forth at his face. He fidgets with the buttons of his shirt, mumbling, "Well, as long as I can help someone in need..."

Ahhh~ Tsukasa-kun is always so cute~ It's way too easy to tease him.

He chuckles lowly, "Then if I may ask—hm?"

Before he can question Tsukasa where the nearest hardware store was in their area (although he already knows, he was merely savoring the time to talk to the young star), the sounds of running footsteps resounds across the street accompanied by the screech of someone's yell slowly increasing in volume.

Then suddenly, something slams into him.

The impact was immediate and the effects instantaneous. One second, Rui Kamishiro is standing tall on his 180cm glory near Tsukasa and the next he is lying face down on the concrete ground, a schoolbag over his bruised head and a stream of blood gushing out from his grinning mouth. Tsukasa screams in worry, yelling out whether he's okay.

And then, a voice as loud and shrilling as Tsukasa's thunders the area. "Stay away from my brother, you creep!!!!"

do you have any specific head canon's for characters like appearance wise ? or do you try to keep their appearance as close as you can to the original design ?

first thing first, i do have headcanons for most of the characters in proseka. though it's more visible through my vbs art since i mostly draw them anyways

most of these i come up with like months ago, so if you squint like REALLY hard you'll see them in most of the stuff that i drew

second, i do usually try to stick to the original design as much as possible, with maybe some few tiny headcanons, just cause it looks neat. by little i really do mean it, it is little

for example, i headcanon rui to have a dimple. usually i draw him going all -w- but when i do draw him being wide and happy, a little dimple shows up. cause i just think she looks cute

and also for haruka, since she really just looks really god damn pretty already, i thought she'd also look pretty in shorter hair. it's really not that big of a difference for the appearance but i like changes that r not so big that i can still tell who the character is ^^

i also tend to like, give each characters some of their own unique physical appearance? does that make sense?

take for example, honami and mizuki, sometimes they get confused w eachother a LOT so i tend to alter how they look like a bit to avoid confusion by differentiating how their eyes shaped like

and lastly, i really, really, like REALLY!!! adore and love sibling parallels!! something on their physical appearance that could indicate that they're related but not too obvious

the most obvious one for me is the tenma siblings (toya included) (what do you expect from me?) i know saki canonically doesn't have the same ahoges (?) like the one tsukasa has, but i like to think that she does, yk, to match him, but the other way around because why not?

and also toya included in this one, he's not biologically related to the tenmasibs, but i imagine saki and tsukasa wanted him to feel included becauss they love him so!! they styled him one to somewhat resemble the ones that they had (they tried and that's what matters!)

Introductory post!

WHAT IS VERTICAL SEKAI?

Vertical SEKAI is a fan made alternate universe of Project SEKAI made by @shiraoyagi .

It is a unitswap based on the number order of each character in the files. These numbers are organized vertically to create new units rather than how they are done horizontally in the original game. To demonstrate (because I couldn't find a more concise way to word this), I created a chart.

The above image shows how the numbers are organized by unit in canon. For reference, 1 is Ichika, 20 is Mizuki, and 21 is Miku.

The below image shows how the numbers are organized by unit in the Vertical SEKAI AU.

DISCLAIMER: I did not shuffle the VS numbers because they serve the same function in this AU as they do in the canon game. Ideally, I'd sort them vertically to determine their default unit placements, but unfortunately, by doing this I would create a massive plot hole in AURORA's lore, so I decided against it.

I don't expect anyone to know the character numbers off the top of their head, so I'll also list the units properly below (with altered unit placements to reflect the story).

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS ACCOUNT?

This account is basically how information about the Vertical SEKAI AU will be distributed. It is basically an ask blog.

You can either ask questions to me on this blog directly, or you can ask questions to the characters in the AU, and in that case, I will try to respond as in character as possible.

In Vertical SEKAI AU canon, these questions are given to the characters (when addressed to them) in the form of fragments of feelings that float around their SEKAIs (similarly to how after lives work in canon). This means that in character questions can only be asked to characters who have access to a SEKAI, so... sorry, NPC enjoyers (although I'll still answer questions about them myself)!

Tenma Tsukasa "The Way Back Home for You and Me" Fes Card Story Summary

Fan translation (Tsukasa's Number 3 Fan)

Part 1: Wonderlands x Showtime debrief after a practice involving emotion-based improv. Once reaching the station, Emu and Nene head off to go shopping while Tsukasa asks Rui for advice on how to understand side character's narratives. Tsukasa wants to be able to imagine the stories of characters different to himself more. Rui suggests practicing with a simpler story: picture books.

At home, Tsukasa digs through his shelf and finds an old book he'd used to read to Saki often: "A Way Back Home for You and Me". The story follows two young siblings. After their good friend and neighbor suddenly had to move, the older brother decides to cheer up his little sister by walking to visit their new house. Tsukasa had idolized the brother in that book, but he still doesn't know what kind of expression he had made once finally reaching their destination since his back was turned in the illustration and the only dialogue was the sister saying, "Big bro, you're making such a weird face!".

Tsukasa decides to read the book to find the answer. Suddenly, his phone flashes, transporting him into SEKAI. He finds a glowing ball lying around and assumes the plushies had left it out. When he goes to put it away for them, it transports him to a strange place.

Part 2: Tsukasa assumes he's dreaming and pinches himself. When it hurts, he realizes it's real. A young girl and boy race in front of him, so he stops them from racing into the street and crashing into a biker. Tsukasa immediately recognizes the two as the main characters from his picture book, Meg and Hero. Tsukasa decides to accompany the two to learn more about the story. He tells them about his own sister to convince them. Tsukasa notes that he shouldn't interfere much to not accidentally alter the story.

However, after walking around for an hour, Meg gets sleepy. She asks Hero for a piggyback ride, to which the brother agrees, even though he's extremely tired himself. Despite his plan to not interfere, Tsukasa offers to carry Meg instead so Hero doesn't hurt himself. He does a little dance to prove his energy, cheering the both of them up. Even if this means Tsukasa won't figure out what that "weird face" is, he'd rather see the two kids smile.

Tsukasa delivered the two kids to their friend's house safe and sound. He realizes there that he never needed to see what that expression was: he already knows it. Tsukasa praises Hero for being a good big brother and tells him to hold back the tears, since his little sister and friend are watching.

Tsukasa is transported back to the main SEKAI, where he finds Miku. Miku explains what a Fragment of Feelings is and asks if it was a scary place. Tsukasa reassures her that it was exactly where he needed to go.

Every year, Princess Tenma Saki’s birthday was the largest festival of the entire year, and every year, Commander Shinonome Akito dreaded every single aspect of planning it.

From the decorations to the food to the guest list to every tiny little security detail, everyone expected Akito to deal with it. Akito! The princess’ brother and fellow Golden Rose Knight was right there! But nooo…

Akito rubbed his temples, already beginning to feel the headache coming on after just a mere week of planning. Very little had been done, except for the annual banishing of the nobles who wanted to have their way with Princess Saki’s party. Saki did not like the nobles, and quite frankly none of the knights did—even Toya had expressed his displeasure of them once.

“I didn’t know you knew what happened around the court,” Akito gave Toya a side-eye glance. The vocalist was still a bit of an enigma to Akito, even despite… whatever they were.

Toya simply smiled and turned back to his music sheets, altering the water-written notes as he felt needed. Akito closed his eyes and relished the feeling of Toya’s body next to him.

So, planning fell to the three Golden Rose Knights who needed it signed off by Princess Saki, and thus the actual planning began. Decorations and food and all the like fell to Tsukasa, who worked directly with his sister on what she wanted. Mizuki worked on the guest list and invitations and all the “cute things,” as they put it. Which, all in all, left Akito with the security detail.

Security was no joke at Princess Saki’s birthday ball—it had always been this way since she came into power. After Tsukasa relinquished his right to the throne, and with no heir on the horizon, Princess Saki was the only royal left.

“I don’t know why that doesn’t stop Tsukasa from taking the throne again if something were to happen,” Akito thought to himself one afternoon, pouring over the familiar maps of the castle and ballroom they would be using for the ball itself, “but who am I to question such things?”

He rubbed his eyes, feeling the sting of lost sleep poking at his eyelids. Losing sleep wasn’t unusual for Akito—even something as little as a training regimen could cost him hours of sleep—but he’d come to deal with it. Sure, he got yelled at a lot for it, but that never stopped him.

He blinked and stared at the map below him again. Run it through one more time, then he could move onto the next thing. Singles stationed in the rafters of the ballroom, duos on the edges around the ballroom itself…

“Commander!” A voice called out during free spar for the knights. “Commander, sir, I have urgent news!”

Akito rubbed his eyes again, blinking away his daydreams. He turned to the spy running up to him, then turned on his heel and waved at him to follow him. He pulled him into a small room converted into a war room of sorts and took one end of the table.

“Alright, what’cha got?” He said. The man stood straight and unrolled the scroll in his hands.

“Sir! We’ve seen movement on our northern coast from people who appear to be aligned with the Imperial Kingdom. They have not made any attempts on villages, but they do not look friendly…” the spy rattled on. Akito shifted enemy forces around on the map as the words reached him—sometimes a split-second delayed, but he shook it off and moved on. When the report was over Akito looked over the map. The situation was not dire yet , but it wasn’t something to be ignored.

Perfect. Just when he was already dealing with birthday planning.

Akito shifted some of their forces around, the spy watching him carefully. Once Akito was happy with the arrangement, he relayed the orders to the other. The man quickly jotted it all down, saluted, and rushed off.

Akito ran a hand down his face, rubbing at his temples once more. It would be just his luck to have to split their forces between the largest ball of the year and potentially hostile forces from one of their neighboring kingdoms. Yes, targeting the kingdom on the peninsula was an unfortunately sound strategy.

The knight shook himself out of his depressing thoughts and pulled out the plans to security detail for the ball once more.

“…Along here is where all the guests will come in, so we’ll need a little extra guards here— Akito! Are you listening?”

Akito started, his vision going blurry for a second. He could feel his mind and body begging for sleep, but pushed past it—lives were at stake if he didn’t do his job right, so he couldn’t afford to make mistakes. The plans came before his sleep.

“Yes, extra security on the entrance, got it,” he muttered, rubbing his temples again. He’d been doing that a lot—it felt more like a psychological thing rather than a physical thing at this point.

“Are you sure you’re okay? You’ve got some pretty heavy bags under your eyes,” Mizuki commented, their brow furrowed. Tsukasa mirrored their expression, gazing at Akito with the same amount of worry.

“I’m fine, don’t worry about it,” Akito waved them off. “Now, what about the side rooms in the ballroom?”

The three of them continued talking over every little detail that would go down about the ball just so the three commanders were on the same page about everything. Akito’s body felt weaker with every passing second, but just two more weeks, then I can catch up on sleep, he promised himself. He took a deep breath mentally and refocused on the world around him. Over and over and over again he repeated this cycle, trying desperately to cling onto the few threads of coherency he had left.

While they were arguing over the neighboring kingdoms’ invites, a faint and soft melody wafted through the opened windows. Akito froze, immediately recognizing the tune—he used it often whenever he wanted Akito to come to him. It was never anything powerful when he sang it without his orchestra, and he never forced Akito to come to him; he knew Akito had duties and such, and Akito could ignore the call usually.

Key word being usually. The melody this time was much more… haunting . Like a little ghost girl in the woods leading someone to their demise, his song rang out to Akito and beckoned him. And oh Akito wanted to just give in—his mind and body begged him too, begged to let the other take care of them for the night. Give themselves a break and hand over control to their partner.

But Shinonome Akito was commander of the White Knights and one of the three Golden Rose Knights first and foremost, and at the moment he was doing his duty. So, with all his might, he tried to resist his partner’s siren call, despite how tempting it was to him.

(Only him. No one else got this way about his song, he told Akito, in all his time spent around the castle. If Akito’s fellow knights’ unaffected mumbling about the music said anything, it was that only Akito was like this.)

Akito’s feet moved on their own. His mind grew fuzzy and dulled, not just with the encroaching sleep but with the obeying of the command interlaced in the haunting melody. Slowly, the knight made his way out of the room, ignoring the worried glances of his fellow knights, having given up now on resisting something he had now—something that was slowly taking all control from him, now that he couldn’t stop its advances. His feet took him to the source of the song—through darkened castle halls, down spiraling staircases, and finally out into the small royal garden.

Only Princess Saki was technically allowed in here, but she let the trio of knights use it whenever, since she saw little use out of it. Tonight the garden found itself with a new visitor: the vocalist who had summoned Akito all the way here, sitting on the edge of the fountain glistening with the same water dripping off its guest, his partner Toya.

Silver eyes met his own eyes, and they shimmered in the moonlight. The melody grew quieter as Akito approached, sitting himself next to Toya as the melody died off entirely.

“It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other,” Akito let out a tired chuckle. A damp hand cradled his cheek and turned his head to look at him. Unconsciously, Akito leaned into his partner’s hand with a soft sigh. “What brings you all this way from your little lake?”

Toya stared at him for a little while, his thumb gliding over what Akito could only assume were his dark eyebags. Water trickled down his cheeks and neck, creating a trail from Toya’s thumb’s route. The knight had long grown used to the feeling of sweat and water all over his body—a combination of extended workouts and extended time out. Then, the vocalist gave a little sigh.

“You haven’t been sleeping properly,” he muttered, his voice a little sad. It broke Akito’s heart to hear his partner so sad , so disappointed — his partner, over his actions. “What can I do?”

“Thanks,” Akito reached up to grab Toya’s hand, squeezing it and feeling water collect on the front and backs of his palm and fingers, “but there’s really nothing you can do. There’s still two weeks left until Princess Saki’s birthday ball, and on top of that I’ve been getting reports of movement on our borders and…” Akito ran his free hand down his face, but quickly recovered and gave Toya a (faked and strained) smile. “After the ball, I’ll catch up on sleep, promise.”

Toya’s brow furrowed as his eyes flicked up and down his body. Then, after taking a deep breath, he said, “No. Either you go to sleep now, or I put you to sleep.”

Akito froze, his grip on Toya’s hand loosening—just enough for his partner to move away. A million thoughts raced through the knight’s head at once—the birthday ball, the spy’s message, the staff complaints, sleep , limited numbers and security details, the movement of forces along their borders, let us sleep, someone could break in and assassin the princess, someone could kill their troops and launch an assault on the kingdom, let us sleep! , someone could cause a rebellion, everything could go wrong, SLEEP , and it would all be his fault, LET US SLEEP—

Akito gasped for air, a hand grabbing the front of his uniform. His thoughts were whirling faster than Akito could process them, grab out to them and pull them down and read them properly. They were closing in on him, trapping him, suffocating him, and he was powerless to do anything—his sword was gone, his body was immobilized.

“—ko! Akito! Please…!” A voice called out to him from the abyss. He faintly recognized it— safety, comfort, warmth, SLEEP —and tried to reach out for it, but he couldn’t, he couldn’t move. But he wanted to grab it and be pulled out of the typhoon he found himself in. He struggled and struggled, but couldn’t move— wasn’t moving, was going backwards, further and further and further and further and—

And then, music hit his ears.

A melody so familiar to him, wrapping around him like a soft blanket. It caressed and held his weary limbs softly—pulled him carefully out of the typhoon of crowding thoughts. Akito watched as his vision stabilized, the blob of blue, black, and white sharpening into the beautiful visage of his lovely partner. His eyes were closed as he sang the song that let Akito drift to the surface, his hands gently massaging Akito’s own (when had he taken his gloves off? Was it during the meeting with the other two, or did Toya take them off when he couldn’t see?).

“I’m here,” Akito breathed. Toya’s eyes slowly opened, his song drifting off into the wind, and Akito found himself breathless at the sheer amount of love and adoration shining in them. “I’m here,” he repeated.

Toya hummed, gently holding Akito’s hands in his own. “Are you alright?”

“...Mm.” Akito’s eyes flickered away from the other, finding the ledge of the fountain much more engaging now.

“Can you give me an answer now?” Toya asked quietly, as if trying not to disturb the settling waters around them. Akito furrowed his brow, trying to recall what Toya asked. The memories trickled in, slowly, one-by-one, and the knight could tell swiftly that they were about to grow into a typhoon again. He shoved them down, frantically spouting out a response to Toya.

“I-I can’t, there’s too much to do and it’s my responsibility, I can’t take a break I can’t I can’t— ” his voice broke at the end, water not from Toya’s fingers collecting on the edges of his eyes.

“Shh, shh…” Toya cooed, his hands letting go of Akito’s to wrap around his back and pull him into Toya’s chest. Instinctively, the knight bunched the top of Toya’s shoulder cape in his fists, trying to take deep breaths as Toya’s voice guided him along. He buried his face into the crook of Toya’s neck, breathing in the salty scent the vocalist carried around with him.

“Akito,” Toya murmured with so much care and patience, “will you let me sing to you?”

Akito wanted to protest—all of his duties, the meeting he’d left behind, too much to do and not enough time to do it—but Toya squeezed him, just a little and only briefly. And yet, Akito knew what he was trying to say: “I love you, let me take care of you, don’t hurt yourself, let me take care of THEM your duties.”

So he relaxed—let the fabric under his hands free, let himself sink into Toya’s hold, let his shoulders and legs drop their weight, let his eyes droop to half-lidded—and let Toya do whatever he wanted with his knight. His knight; Akito almost snorted aloud at the warmth that spread throughout his limbs at the thought of that.

Toya could hurt him if he wanted. But he never would, Akito knew. He held Akito like a precious gem, something to be cared for and admired. It sounded superficial, but it made Akito feel… he wasn’t sure what it made him feel. But he knew letting go like this, in such a way that would usually cost him his life, was okay.

He listened attentively to the song that sprung from Toya’s lips, drinking in every note, every chord and every octave; the song was similar to the one that brough him out of the typhoon of his thoughts, but this one left him drift in waveless waters, drifting aimlessly as his partner floated beside him. He was okay, he was safe. So he let the warmth encircle him and cradle him, rocking him into closing his eyes and letting his breath slow.

And slowly, slowly, Akito fell asleep in his partner’s arms.
