Nene's Origins//Pt.2

Saki ran for her life as Nene began chasing her. Nene couldn't let Saki get away with this...ever. Saki's breathing became heavy, sounding like a child close to it's final moments, before she got cornered.

You killed them didn't you?! Then made them into robots for your own selfish needs!!

Nene stop!!

Nene walks closer, her blade shining.

Shut it! Those robots didn't even know they were real...You killed them...and made them forgwt everything?! Who knows what you did!

Nene-

I'll end you-

Nene raises her blade.

Now...and here!!

NENE!!!

Nene swung her blade and-

KILLING ME WON'T DO SHIT!!!!

It hit the wall. Breaking a chunk.

Nene what do you think will happen of you kill me?! That Tsukasa and Emu and...Mafuyu will become humans again!? No!! And everything will just stay the same!! Along with that, you'll lose those precious answers of the questions you hold.

Nene stopped and transformed her arm back to normal.

Those are...hah..those are what I keep bodies in so they don't rot away.

Well! They're the source for the robots. If that makes sense, they're basically people that are dead! The ginger was the one I killed, the blonde is dead via accident.

Nene flinches, looking insulted.

What makes the others so different!?

While...the person who died didn't possess them, there's still a soul in their bodies. A soul is more recognizable to emotions and actions or...anything that makes a human, human. It gets in their system perfectly. They can laugh whenever they want...cry whenever they want...be scared, nervous or embarrassed whenever they want! You? You only copy those feelings.

But so do they!!

But...I do have feelings also...? I feel weird now...I'm upset at hearing your thoughts about me...how does the soul even get in the body...?!

Simple, Every robot body has a part in them. Emu has her victims whole body stuffes inside her, so does Mafuyu. Tsukasa...he'll be getting one a week later.

Nene couldn't believe how faceless Saki was. Why is she saying these things so casually!?

Nene could only look at Saki's evil grimace as it dawns on what Saki is implying.

It's only a matter of time...

The next few days, Nene couldn't stop thinking... About anything really. If she was fake...just a robot...how could she feel real? Feel emotions? Are they all just made up? Or was Saki lying to her? Not only that, she was about to get her falso emotions being replaced with real ones.

Nene had a malfunction in her foot, so she was in Kanade's workshop to get them fixed.

Nene glances at her body. Her face becoming more uneasy as she remembers what will happen in just a few days later.

...Nene...I heard you learned about all this...

...I did...

I'm going to be given a soul...a new one...to change me and...make me real...right...?

Yes, but don't worry...I'm sure your fake ones will also stay but...I can't guarantee...

At this point...I'd rather have my fake ones than the "real ones"! Because-! Even if they're fake-! And I know that...they're fake! They feel so real to me!! The two went quiet. Nene was about to lose the only thing that makes her feel like she's a human. Her having a template of sorts to make her into something sounds fake. She will become fully fake if she does go along with this.

Kanade-san...I-

I tried my hardest to be free...it's the reason I'm on this wheelchair now...Saki can do anything to me...but not you..you're one of the only things that make her fortunes. Losing you will be catastrophic for her...

Nene thinks it through, and nods.

After a week of preparation, she it was the day she was supposed to run away. But it was also the day, Tsukasa would get his "new emotions". Nene knew...he couldn't be a victim of this aswell. He had to come with her!

Tsukasa was singing a lonely tune on the empty stage.

La lala la...la la lala...la...lalala la-

Nene carefully approached him. Feeling....feeling nervous.

Tsukasa?

-! Ah! Nene! It's a surprise seeing you here! What brings?

Nene hesitates before speaking.

Tsukasa...sigh...listen to me...okay?

W-what is it?

We need to get out of here.

Huh, why?

Because-

Nene was about to tell Tsukasa what was going to happen but...she couldn't bring herself to.

Because it's not safe. We need to run away!

Tsukasa looks down

Tsukasa-

Tsukasa looks back up at Nene again. His eyes soft...his smile..sad? It was a mix of emotions Neme never seen before. Maybe...these were...real emotions. He looked like he was a prince who was cursed, looking at his true love...knowing that his time has come.

Look...Nene. I know you want me to come aswell...but...I like it here...this place and this stage makes me feel like a person! A real one! So if you want to go, you can. But, I want to stay here. I'm...I'm sorry...

Nene's eyes widen. The place made him feel like a person? Made him feel...real? It was like a parallel to her own thoughts. Her fake emotions are what made her feel real and she doesn't want them to be taken away, so she decides to run. The stage and the place are what made Tsukasa feel real and he also doesn't want that taken away...so he wants to stay. It's a painful choice. To leave Tsukasa. She knew that if she did, he would lose those feelings about the place instantly. But at the same time, taking him away from what made him happy is the worst thing anyone could do to someone. Taking someone's feeling humanity is the worst thing anyone could do. Nene, with no other options...

...sigh...you know what? Fine. I won't force you to come with me. But...

Nene knew he was going to be gone after today. She didn't want that...she wanted him to stay the same! Or to find what makes him a human. But that was going to be taken away from him. Perhaps...in the future...in a good time...she'll come back to him to help him regain his emotions. She takes his hand, her eyes glistening with hope.

I promise you, I will come back and rescue you.

...!

Tsukasa's eyes widen, like he didn't expect Nene to keep hope for longer.

Rescue...?

Nene let's go of his hand and backs away, ready to leave.

Goodbye, please don't tell anyone I ran away. Okay?

Nene...

Tsukasa could only look at her with an expression of regret, he didn't want her to go as much as she didn't want him to stay.

...Okay. Farewell...

Nene turned around and ran to her escape.

Hm...

Tsukasa stood still, his expression filled with regret.

Nene...please...keep your promise.

i got an ao3 comment a while ago saying how it was "uncomfortable" and "out of character" for bruce to use terms of endearment and nicknames towards his kids in fics. which proves to me that some people have truly rotted minds, but also that you've never picked up a batman comic. so, here are some nice panels that show it is very much in character.

really sad to me when the pjsekai fandom starts talking about the tenma siblings like one’s emotions cancels out or overlooks the other’s when they’re actually like the most connected pair of siblings in the game. the impact of saki’s illness on her childhood should never be chalked up to “oh poor tsukasa must have been so lonely.” but the loneliness mentioned in tsukasa’s childhood shouldn’t have ever turned into invalidating saki’s feelings in the first place. if anything, it should’ve proven just how resilient these silly siblings are and how deep their bond goes. saki’s feelings directly impact tsukasa’s and vice versa. tsukasa feeling sad shouldn’t erase saki feeling sad, and saki feeling sad shouldn’t erase tsukasa feeling sad. their feelings were never opposing forces and they never invalidated each other!!! THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!! goodness.

one of the mall interactions Saki and Tsukasa have where Tsukasa says a star looks good in anything when Saki asks about going in a cute store and even picking out something for him too makes me a firm believer that Tsukasa was absolutely the big brother that would’ve let Saki practice makeup on him

I’ve gone on and on about how Leo wants to be who Splinter finds is the ideal person (which just so happens to be Splinter’s ideal version of himself) but I have yet to really touch upon how Donnie is the one who most directly parallels Splinter himself to an honestly shocking degree, Raph’s taking from Splinter’s teachings and parenting has resulted in an unhealthy mixup in the different dynamics of a family versus a team, and Mikey is the one who is simultaneously the most focused on family and the most intrinsically himself which both leads to his better grasp of mystics and honestly what just might be the healthiest dynamic with Splinter.

Nene's Origin Pt.1//

OCC Note: I wanted to put all her origins in one post but I realized it would be too long so it's gonna be like 2-3 parts.

Nene was made a month before Mafurobo was made. She was inspired off of a ballerina character in Saki's favorite children book. So naturally, she was made as a ballerina. Her personality was also based off of the ballerina character; kind, calm, daring and charming. She felt like snow, by how calm and comfortable she makes people feel. Everything was going alright, when one day she was at Kanade's workshop to get fixxed. After that though, she started seeing things. Black shadowy things hovered over the robots, mostly on Tsukasa and Mafuyu. Nene wondered why they were there, she wouldn't be left unanswered.

"Emu...! Emu...! Where are you?"

She said, looking around for Emu. She walked, and walked but never found her. She asked the others about it. None.

"Saki...do you know where Emu is?"

"No, ask the janitor I'm busy."

"The janitor went missing..."

Saki nodded, not really listening, and walked away. Then Nene heard faint giggles coming from a room. She followed the noise and went inside.

"Emu...?"

She whispered as she peeked through the door. There, she saw Emu looking into a mirror and laughing at herself. She then noticed, it, again. The black shadow. This time, the shadow was all over the robot girl. Nene then felt this sense of dread. She felt herself being pulled to the shadow. In a faint moment; she saw a brown haired girl, with pitch black eyes, smile at her. Then the feeling went away, and Nene uncounciously ran away.

Ever since that encounter, she felt more cornered then ever. She could feel those black shadows watching her. Not only that, she felt them increasing by the day. It wasn't long before the same thing happened with Mafuyu. Nene feared the same would happen to Tsukasa aswell.

Her relationship with Tsukasa was fairly normal, but they were closest to each other. Nene would comfort Tsukasa when he messes uo a show because he had a malfunction, and Tsukasa would encourage Nene to do more than she already can. She feared, the black would hunt for him aswell.

Then it hits. She must have a black shadow, waiting to drive her insane. She had to find a way out of this. So she goes to “Saki’s office” to find and talk with Saki about this since Saki is the creator of the robots. She knocks on the door, waiting for Saki to answer but...she didn't. Nene knew she isn't allowed in her office, no one is, but she needed to know the answers. Now. She carefully opened the door only to be blinded by a tealish light. Nene looks up, to see huge tubes. One of the tubes had a human body in it. The body was pretty scratched up, along with millions of wires attached to it. The body...looked a lot like Tsukasa. Could it be...? No, no it couldn't be! Saki wouldn't do such things! However, Nene's hopes were shattered immediately as she turned her head around to see the lifeless body of the janitor, in one of those tubes, attached to countless wires. Nene couldn't understand what was happening...her program became blank before it hit her.

Saki was making robots out of humans.

All the robots...all the shadows she saw...were humans...she couldn't believe it. She didn't want to. Her program calculated, and imagined many ways Saki killed the real Emu, the real Mafuyu, Tsukasa, and so on...

She looked down at her hands. Was she also a human...? Was she tricked all this time?

Suddenly, the door swung open.

"Nene-!? W-W-What are you doing here!? You weren't-!!"

Saki stutters. She is clearly in panic of her own creation learning the truth behind it's life.

"Did you...kill me too...?"

Nene asks. Her eyes had the rage of a tiger, the sadness of a losing mother, the vulnerability of a small kitten and the lifelessness of a porcelain doll.

"Okay...L-Let me explain!!"

Nene's body made some mechanical sounds before her arms turned into a blade.

"N-...Nene...?"

Nene didn't say anything, still looking at Saki with the same expression as she started walking towards Saki.

"Nene put that away-!! Nene-!!!"

Nene charged at Saki.

"NENEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

comics are in and of itself, an unreliable narrator.

i say this because i started my comic journey with jason todd. i read all his robin appearances, pre and post crisis, then read hush and under the red hood, and all i could think about was what the fuck. what the fuck batman. how did you become this. what happened between 1988 and 2006. how did the the man who's life revolved around caring for this child, teaching this child, learning from this child, protecting this child, losing this child — become hurting him.

it was so baffling to me i found myself slipping into the batman shaped void that many never return from (lol). and so now, i have read over 1500 batman comics, over 300 different writers, spanning over 80 years of publication. i finally get to what happened between 1988 and 2006, and how batman as a character has become as unrecognisable as he has remained familiar. i see the events of alpod, knightfall, cataclysm, no man's land, the 200 individual batman issues and 200 individual detective comics issues alone that had passed, not taking into account the the other long runs, mini runs, short stories or collaborative comics that were released in those 18 years. the people he had met, lost, been betrayed by, abandoned in those stories.

it has only been about 5 years since jason todd died for bruce wayne. 5 years that have felt like two decades.

it has only been around 4 years for jason since he climbed his way out of his grave. 4 years that felt like less than three.

so when reading as jason, i felt betrayed. how could batman do this? how can't he see? he knows how i would have mourned him, he knows how fiercely i love him, how all i want is for him to prove he ever loved me the same way. how can he not change after all these years? how is he not aware that he is not the change gotham needs? (how does he not see that he is what i need — needed.) how will he save gotham? he can't. he can't save gotham. he can't save me. but i can. i can fix it.

then i read as bruce and i am betrayed. who is this? why does he doubt how much i loved him? what changed? why did he change? (am i the one who changed? no, surely not.) after everything, the people i have hurt, the people i have lost, the people i have sacrificed for gotham, how can he doubt? he would have never asked me to do this before, he understood, i'm sure he did, before. i won't choose. i can't choose. where is my son. where am i. i can't save gotham. i can't save you. but i can fix it. i can fix you.
