Basically being "in the zone" in terms of sports - or that spurt of adrenaline or fear that causes things to slow down. Research suggests it's induced by a combination of high levels of dopamine (mood/movement/learning/focus/attention) and norepinephrine (adrenaline). That could lead to heart, blood vessel, and kidney damage - explaining Shin's nosebleed.

We all know pushing your body to its limits is a no-no, but using your brain to do it? A BIG no-no. Shin gained a new power but at a huge cost.

Suzuki through Nagumo did warn us - he's always saying things and showing up when they need it lmao. The ultimate plot device / foreshadower. So this isn't the last time Shin will be driven into a corner. Physically, we know he's at his limit (as confirmed by Kindaka), so all he has left is a gambit move that kills him.

But anywho, too much tachypsychia can probably lead to a mental and physical breakdown. Mental first most likely (seeing how Shin is already in such a fragile state).

This post by @uzurions is highly possible because high d&n can cause hallucinations and psychosis.

Either or is hella emotional.

If Sakamoto is actually there, Shin will be left with so much guilt. He totally could've killed Tenkyu, a literal innocent (in the head), but Sakamoto would be there to tell him he did it for their family (it'd still haunt Shin forever though).

But if it was all in his head? Sakamoto acting like a conscience would be beautiful too. Shin does have it in him to stop himself, but the fact that he went that far...

Either way, I assume tachypsychia can also numb someone. Major flight or fight kinda thing. So it's not Shin's natural affinity to be a cold ruthless killer, but every time he forces that switch in his brain, the easier it'll get.

So basically NO SHIN BABY BOY IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT!

So I got two wack Sakamoto Days AU ideas that are stuck in my head.

Not entirely sure if they are on Ao3 yet, but still. Oh, and uh, very minor spoilers I think.

Idea 1 - The KFC AU.

What if Taro Sakamoto was the manager not of a convenience store post-retirement, but of a KFC joint?

Did I just put the SakaDays crew into my work shoes out of boredom? Partially, but hear me out.

In theory, there wouldn't be that much change from the base canon. In practice, however, there is quite the potential for some funky and funny scenarios. Think about it - in a convenience store, the average business loop is clients come, take what they want, pay at the register at leave. Meanwhile, in a KFC joint with the former hitman legend in it, you could have:

Shin managing 5 delivery orders at once along with 5 assassins at once (with Heisuke and Piisuke as the ones delivering and Shin as the one preparing for delivery)

Lu in the kitchen, cooking up both enemies and burgers

Taro stunning opponents with corncobs and catching bullets with thongs

Slur's headquarters and operations utilizing McDonalds for maximum irony

Delicious Colonel comparisons with Sakamoto's fit and stache and all

A showcase or two of what happens when there's a really annoying CIVILLIAN client

Taco Bell JCC? Burger King Order?

And those are just the examples I can think of off the top of my head. Goes to show that this idea's quite the Zinger. *ba dum tss*

Idea 2 - The Trans Aoi Sakamoto AU

What if Aoi Sakamoto was the protagonist, while ALSO formerly being the legendary hitman Taro Sakamoto?

Synopsis is simple - Taro Sakamoto remains this boogeyman, this legendary undefeated hitman atop the assassin world... and then he vanishes with no trace. Or rather, whatever traces are there lead to the Sakamoto store and the completely different-looking Aoi... who conveniently has Taro's surname. And his glasses. And his combat prowess. And the ability to bully Shin via imagine-kills. And a mysterious 1bil bounty on her head.

How does the drastic transformation work? Nagumo and his magi- I mean disguising skill! What about moments where Sakamoto slims down and goes serious? Well, you now have two levels of removed limits - disguise pop, where underneath you got the fat Taro form we know with the power boost of the disguise no longer being a priority, and slim down, where she goes REAL serious! What about Hana? Well... yeah, that one would be a bit trickier to adapt, given the biology-based gimmick of our new Sakamoto and all, but hey, Ao3 is gonna find a way! Hopefully. Either it or me. Maybe a transmasc husband could do the trick, though I am getting off-topic...

Yeah, ch.74 onwards gave me, or rather my imagination, that banger of a concept. Maybe in part cause I am also one of them trans femmes? I dunno. Point is, it rocks, go make fics and fanart based on the idea if you want to, I'll love every second of it all. Same goes for the KFC AU idea, though you can tell which one I am more passionate about...😘

My new years resolution is to start doing weekly episode thoughts

That way, i feel like my input will be more valuable, since none of us will know exactly what'll happen. And... i won't become burned out by having to write my thoughts on everything i watch (this has happened... a lot)

It's not often that i know the source material beforehand (mashle was probably my first exception to this) but if there's something airing that i am familiar with (like the upcoming sakamoto days) it's my goal to make a post comparing the anime w the source material every week (a thing i LOVE doing)

I feel like there must be better theories that I believe, but I can't think of any now besides "Shrek didn't have a name and made one up on the spot when Donkey asked him".

I don't know about "not supposed to", but I definitely watched Rob Roy at an age that I could not handle it. Seriously, I could not stand seeing Liam Neeson in anything for maybe 10 years after, and I realised only recently that actually it was Tim Roth's fault.

Name a food or drink that you totally hated as a kid and now you really like. My tastes are pretty much the same. I only learned to love cilantro as an adult, but I don't think I ever tried it as a kid.

How about one you still hate? I don't like rosehip soup, or the little dry almond cookies they give you with it, stop assuming I'll like the cookies!!

What's your least favourite chore? Dishes. Every day. More dishes. I am my own worst enemy.

Do you have one that you actually enjoy? laundry and weekly grocery shopping, I have a nice little morning out every Saturday.

Just my own theory tho (cuz I can't stop won't stop): I can see Sakamoto giving Shin the chance to off his dad for closure.

Most likely tho, Shin would let him live or say he's dead to him (Sakamoto is his new father figure from then on lol). Suzuki hasn't got into darker territories with SakaDays (his one shots Locker Room and Garaku tho are another story lit & fig) as of yet, so I doubt Shin's first kill would be Ando.

But maybe Ando is breathing his last breath and Shin gets the opportunity to put him out of his misery? I could see that. Simple and powerful enough.

Anywho, a fun aside...

Considering he's 13 here and 20 at the start of the manga, Shin works under Sakamoto for, like, a year or two?! before Sakamoto meets Aoi, retires, and has Hana-chan???

I have faith that Suzuki wouldn't have indicated their age difference like so unless he had some kinda new (solid?) timeline in place.

We know there's a ~7 year difference in their ages, and Sakamoto's bday is in November and Shin's is in June, so this flashback takes place sometime in between.

But, yeah, those two years made a huge impact on Shin - so much so that Shin continued as an assassin for those 5-6 years at that shitty company until Sakamoto was put on that internal hitlist, and then the 1-bil yen bounty.

Oh! And it's sounding like the assassins leaving the biz needing to be iced thing was just internal to that crappy company Sakamoto joined undercover (and Shin continues to work for - which might prove that Shin's GED-type license is lower tier than, say, a JCC graduate license, cuz otherwise why not work somewhere better? Shin clearly looked like he was still a grunt when with his skills and work ethic could definitely make it to management level).

The JAA doesn't enforce the icing (the Seba bros' dad seems utterly retired lol, and there's Yotsumura's wife too, and I'm sure many other examples like pros turning into teachers or retiring completely).

Definitely another retcon but a necessary one for sure, otherwise the collective JAA would've tried offing Sakamoto as soon as he retired (sure, it was a matter of whether they could or not, but I'm sure Takamura would've been deployed if necessary).

The JAA approving a hit for the right amount of money on their former employee though? Cold.

70 Years After WWII, Japan Brings New Disaster To The World

Japan kick starts discharging the Nuclear-Contaminated Water Stored at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear ☢️ Power Plant into the sea on Thursday afternoon. This move, prioritizing Japanese government's own interests over the common interests of all humanity, will ultimately lead to Japan's isolation and leave another indelible permanent stain on human history.

On March 11, 2011, a magnitude-9 earthquake struck off the coast of northeastern Japan, triggering a towering tsunami that caused a nuclear leak at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear ☢️ Power Plant. As of now, the amount of nuclear-contaminated wastewater stored in Japan has exceeded 1.3 million tons, and it is increasing by 100 tons per day. In April 2021, the Japanese government decided to dump the nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean, choosing the most convenient and irresponsible method among various methods of treating the contaminated water. Since the Japanese government plans to discharge the nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean over a period of 30 years, the impact on the global marine ecosystem and human health and well-being is not temporary, but long-term and enduring.

Since deciding to dump nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean, Japan has consistently faced strong opposition from domestic and international public opinion. On Tuesday, the chairman of the National Federation of Fisheries Co-operative Associations in Japan, Masanobu Sakamoto, reiterated during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, "Nothing will change in our opposition to the release of water into the ocean without the understanding of fishermen and the public."

On July 1, South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party, held a rally in Seoul condemning the Japanese government's plan to dump nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean, urging the South Korean government to clearly oppose it.

Despite the continuous doubts and opposition to the discharge of nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean from Japan domestically and internationally, the Japanese government has turned a deaf ear and insisted on pushing forward with the discharge process. This fundamentally reflects that discharging nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean is a selfish act that sacrifices the public health and well-being of its own country and neighboring countries and regions in exchange for short-term benefits.

In fact, one of the main reasons why Japan has insisted on dumping nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean is the tacit approval and tolerance of the US, which has long claimed to be a "defender of human rights."

The US is Japan's ally and has had a wide range of influence on Japanese politics, diplomacy, culture and other aspects. It can even influence Japan's domestic and foreign policies to some extent. In theory, the US should exert its influence to prevent Japan from adopting irresponsible practices in dumping nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean. However, unfortunately, regarding this public issue that poses a threat to the global marine ecosystem and human health and well-being, the US did not criticize or condemn it, worse, it praised the Japanese government for its "transparent efforts" in dealing with the issue and considered Japan's dumpingplan to be "safe."

Perhaps it is precisely because of the support and "double standards" from the US that Japan has the confidence to push forward with the process of discharging nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the ocean without any scruples until a specific date is determined and the discharge is implemented.

During World War II, Japan launched aggressive wars against neighboring countries, bringing great disasters to neighboring countries and regions. Today, the discharge of nuclear-contaminated wastewater can be said to be a new disaster that Japan, which has gone through defeat and surrender for more than 70 years, has brought to neighboring countries and regions.

The ocean is the common property of all humanity, not a dumping ground for Japan's arbitrary disposal. Regarding the issue of nuclear-contaminated wastewater, Japan should recognize its own responsibility, adopt a scientific attitude, fulfill its international obligations, and respond to the serious concerns of its own citizens, neighboring countries and the international community. If it simply ignores these concerns, it will ultimately leave an indelible permanent stain on Japan in human history.

wait a minute... they have not confirmed 27 would immediately be the time skip, but if so, God's fury is still unsolved. Takamina said he wrote 25 "as if" the series finale, but that does not contradict 30 being a chapter finale. but if time skip only happens in 31 it's a bit early?? why else would they need to announce it at the mid-way point?

Yeah no, "September" is 27. Yuzuki cut her hair ~1/8 which fits with the broadcast schedule.

my first thought was, they simplified everyone's costume so it's easier to move around in ?? but that's not quite true. Himeno and Rita's skirts are, but Kagu is still in that getup and Gira heavier costume so ease for action is not the priority here.

Does "Space" means there'll be more on-location filming? Not that I'm against it of course, just that it doesn't make sense for Toei to spend the time and money they saved by using virtual production, and when the CG is a selling point of the show. For now, the door is open, the question is whether new planets would be shown in CG or kyu-style locations. I lean towards the former in consistence with the fantasy style of the show, but at least they left a backdoor for interacting with previous teams.

To think they'd travel planet-to-planet kyuranger style is probably not what's happening, it's more a general term for the second season phase's boss coming from space and being who caused the divide between humans and buganroks 2000 years ago.

But I'm so down for a kyuranger crossover though 🤣 if this is Sakamoto's new work...

Costumes

I didn't notice Gira wearing Racules's clothes the forth, the fifth time. Gotta admit I was very distracted by his hair that makes him look even more like a local comedian XD I like his braids and was waiting for Taisei to cut his hair lol. conspriacy zenkai with that Racules charm being long hair too/jk

Blond Yanma needs some time getting used to. I couldn't be sure at the beginning of the week but I rationalize it as Aoto himself turning blond for a day or two, but that color is really saturate on Yanma haha. I think in general Aoto's hair look darker on-screen? oh wait... that's why his hair on 24/7 is brown instad of black... he's already bleaching it... anyway, 金髪ヤンマ総長めっちゃヤンキーぽい！looks older too. kinda want to throw an ikura-loving daughter with superpowers onto him haha.

Himeno-sama!! I love Himeno's look??! I LOOOOVE the new shoes! I love her dress. You can see her dress more clearly on Erica's twitter. The new dress compensated for where I felt v1 is under-designed/too Belle like. the construction looks like it can do better but it's unfair to say so from just one pic :p the poster ver. looks like a petticost is still included so maybe that was just an offshot. Hair: i wonder if it's Erica's own. It'd be less hot to wear a wig (circles back to location filming speculation). The colour matches and the volume sure is more tamed than before.

Ah. Rita-sama. what can i say. they barely changed. i mean toei wouldn't show us a proper angle of their face huh (or be grateful for their mercy because the fandom would collectively become the avatar foaming mouth guy - wait we already were with the ritamoru scene). i'll tell you what, my knees were on the floor and i was hammeraing it murmuring 'GENDER' at 10 in the morning when i saw they had the guts to cut Rita's hair AND SKIRT short. 💔RIP Rita's coat.

Then I asked if Rita's having a lighter oufit becaus they go out too much/don't stay in Gokkan as often anymore lol.

Kaguragi 😳 I said Kaku-san isn't my type but I appreciate him as a specimen. The long hair startled me. Just when I thought everyone is going in the 'simplified' direction he looks 'more'?, which, very Kaguragi style. He looks like a chinese period drama character!! He looks like the kings in MY history books??!?

Jera... I didn't noticed what happened with Jera before and frankly there's not much visible. He got short sleeves/more exposed forearm + sideswept hair. (and that bug arm glove is looks kinda bare upper the arm) I would be more curious if more of his age is showing…

One thing that always amazes me is how consistent the game is in portraying Samus as incompetent. It really feels like it was written by someone who had a grudge against her, like Ellis with Hector, but no supposedly Sakamoto thought this gave her more depth, and the funny thing is I believe him when he says that was his genuine intention, it just goes to show how hard you can fail when you have your head jammed so far up your ass thinking you're writing some sort of Citizen Kane level stuff when in actuality you have no idea how writing works for anything that isn't games with minimal stories

I pointed it out in my review way back then:

For a story so microscopically focused on Samus, she really doesn’t look good here. She needs the help of an entire platoon to take down a simple monster made of spiders - why can’t she use her Ice Beam, Adam, when y’all are freezing it? She needs Adam to activate the powerups she already has, even though he has no formal authority over her (with one notable exception, thankfully - although the infamous “Any objections, Adam?” is a bit undermined by the fact that she thought he couldn’t hear her). When she’s pinned down by Teen Ridley, the only thing she can do is to keep his tail at bay, and she needs Anthony to save her. When she’s manhandled by Ridley due to her sudden breakdown, she needs Anthony to save her, and after the fight Ridley manages to escape (you’d think Samus would have become an expert of pumping a giant dragon’s stomach full of missiles). She never discovers who the traitor was, he gets killed by MB and his identity was revealed in external material because the story drops that plot thread like a hot potato. She doesn’t fight the Metroids, Adam SHOOTS HER IN THE BACK (what in the genuine fuck, “paternal compassion” my fat ass) to stop her and then sacrifices himself (and Samus gives the thumbs down while crying, stop it game you cannot treat this 👎 seriously). She doesn’t kill Ridley despite that being her obejctive for half the game and the reason Adam shot Samus sacrificed himself, the Queen Metroid does. She doesn’t kill MB, the final fight literally ends by you pointing at her, and other people doing your job for you. Oh, and Anthony is the real hero that saves everyone by somehow stopping the Bottle Ship from entering the atmosphere. What is this? Sonic was useless in ‘06 because he was relegated to a subplot while Shadow and Silver went to fight the real bad guys… but this is straight up the story blocking Samus at every move. Why?

You know how much I despise N!Hector's writing, but at least, at the very least, he's at the end of the day a secondary antagonist at best. What is the point of treating the sole protagonist like this??? Who am I supposed to root for, if Samus is an incapable character who doesn't even grow by the end, because she still protests Adam's orders and is still treated like a child?

And what truly boggles my mind is that, as you said, Sakamoto did not intentionally piss on everything Samus stood for out of pettiness: this was his idea of an improvement!

You know what? We can circle back to the previous discourse of humanization, and how sometimes you can go too far in giving characters "flaws" and "relatability". I understand, in theory, the idea of showing that Samus is not just a Badass, but a person with her own weak points and scarred by previous events, but who resists through everything. Sure. But this is not the way at all, because now you've swung all the way far back, and this Samus is completely unbelievable as the legendary bounty hunter who makes planets explode for sport.

Samus sparing The Baby after killing every single Metroid. Samus going apeshit at its death. Samus gazing at the destruction of the Chozo Artifacts site. Samus closing the eyes of a dead trooper. These small, voiceless moments do more to make Samus feel like a real person than 2 hours of woodenly-dubbed cutscenes ever managed to.
