Saiouma week 2023: Birthday

Birthdays are exhausting when you're the supreme leader of an organization boasting ten thousand members!

Wow, thats the end of Saiouma week! I've never participated in these kind of events before, and honestly I liked the experience more than I thought! I came into it thinking it would be a good excuse to get back into art as the summer holidays begin, especially since before this I only rlly did doodles rather than full pieces. I also took this as an opportunity to experiment alot, which is easy to see once you compare my pieces for this week together

Now, onto the drawing, I tried adding some of his liked presents in the background, but it was a mess trying to fit them into a cohesive pile so I then threw in random stuff to fill the space. The presents I did include are the fashionable glasses, death flag, bubble bomb gum potted banyan tree, dog tag, autumn scarf, and commemorative medal set (the last two being harder to spot)

Tbh I dont like how the gift pile turned out, but its good enough for me

Saiouma Week Day 1: Horror / Movies

Other than that, I told twitter about Indonesian folklore saiou AU and like uuoooghh unfortunately drawing horror makes me lose sleep.

There are many famous folklore you could choose! From kuntilanak, pocong, sundel bolong, genderuwo, tuyul, etc. I think tuyul (a balc toddler ghost who is usually used to steal by the master) is super funny.

Going for comedy/horror aspects, satay vendor Shuichi and sundel bolong Kokichi IS A FUNNY IDEA!!! Imagine Shuichi going around at night with his gerobak and suddenly hears “mas satenya seratus tusuk” (“sir, may i have a hundred satay”) and turning around to see Kokichi with a huge hole on his body. The thing with Indonesian folklore is they sound SO silly until you hear it in a serious manner.

If I tell you pocong Shuichi is just a zombie wrapped in clothing like a sausage and jumping around your neighborhood would you think I’m insane?? Probably. But if you see it irl you’re cursed.

Ahh, but if not folklore, take SaiOu and taboo things to do around here (Pamali AU haha). Shuichi is an indigo (able to sense paranormal activity) and Kokichi… is Kokichi. Everyday Shuichi would ask him to stop doing those taboo things in fear something will happened to him. Kokichi ignores that, maybe he steps over someone’s grave, whistles at night, sing in the shower, it’s the little things that are culturally looked down upon.

And one day he vanished. No trace, no texts, nothing. It worries Shuichi, “what happened to him? where is he? did the ghosts had enough?” so desperate he seeks alternate medicine route. What do you mean Kokichi is actually a ghost? They had been best friends since childhood there’s no way! But maybe he isn’t dead. Maybe he’s missing. Maybe dia jadi tumbal proyek saking ngeselinnya. Maybe it had something to do with him running to that forest after in the evening despite the warnings that children must not go out alone during that time.

Well, I guess Shuichi just had to shake the dukun’s hand and find more about Kokichi’s weird disappearance.

Saiouma week 2023 day 3: Mastermind

Oh boy was this one of my favourite prompts and one of my favourite Danganronpa au so. Bring on Mastermind Shuichi!

In this AU Shuichi is the mastermind and Kokichi is the protagonist. Throughout the killing game Kokichi had become quite a fan of Shuichi and eventually they were a cupel however as it came to the final standoff Shuichi felt different to Kokichi. He smiles and reveals himself to be the mastermind of the game and reveals that he played his cards right, killing off all those that were closed to Kokichi and seeing the “delight” of our protagonist here. Kokichi was heart broken to see his beloved boyfriend used him all along and played him like a fool thinking he loved him and cared for him. The final reveal was a shocker to the public and a good end to the killing game.

However…

…That was a lie. It was entirely a mastermind lie. Not only was Shuichi the mastermind, Kokichi was also part of the huge set up. He was the mastermind’s assistant. They both fooled the audience into believing they broke up and gave them despair. It was all a lie. They played both their cards right and finished the 53 season with pure despair.

Phew. But yes I’m a huge fan of the Mastermind Shuichi au and wanted to do this with a Saiouma twist for the week. I really enjoyed drawing the twisted expressions and making Shuichi be a king to Kokichi.

I wanted the everything was a lie element in this piece and mastermind au and designs are a favourite of mine so yeah. Enjoy these drawings I did and total not uploading on here now.

Saiouma Week 2023 - Mastermind/Bandages

Mastermind Shuichi and how it'd reflect off Kokichi always fascinated me, so this prompt was PERFECT for me. So much angst material, so many what-ifs, so many thoughts

Originally this was like 4 pages instead of 2, with some inner dialogue from Kokichi and some taunting from Shuichi but I didn't really have enough dialogue ideas or visuals to justify that and honestly just these two pages killed me (especially the second one AGHH), this was actually the first thing I started on for Saiouma week and took me ages so I had to get drawing the others

A struggle was also drawing Kokichi, he doesn't typically let things on through his facial expressions and acts nonchalant but comics are a visual medium, so. I didn't want to have him OOC but I kinda had to and just own it

Saiouma week 2023 day 5: Phantom thief

My favourite drawing I did for last years Saiouma week. It’s of my favourite Saiouma au. That being the phantom thief.

Of course I made sure the thief was toying with the detective by stealing his hat and introducing him into a game of cops and robbers. I’m sure Shuichi doesn’t mind that at all. 😈😂
