Missing an Eye
So, a weird note, I can't find this ask anymore. I think it might have been deleted. Anyway, that contributed to the delay in getting this live on Tumblr tonight.
EDIT: I just found the ask. I answered this on Monday. I am deeply sorry for reposting the ask again. This has been a hell of a week, and this just goes to show how fried my brain is from the stress.
So, again, mea culpa. I did not mean to spam out this post again.
Hello! Thanks a ton for all the work you guys do! It's been very helpful to read through your blog and adjust how I write action. What would you say is the best weapon for someone with depth perception issues in a pretty straightforward fantasy setting? I've got a character with horrible depth perception, but he's in a position of power/influence where he needs to be armed and can't always have guards around.
Depending on the level of sophistication, I'd say that's a pretty good setup for an enchanted prosthetic eye. Depth perception does effect melee combat, but the loss of peripheral vision is probably the more pressing issue.
Really, the time when depth perception becomes a serious consideration is with ranged weapons, where judging the appropriate fire arc is as important as the horizontal angle.
Intuitively, your audience is more likely to recognize that depth perception is likely to be an issue with polearms, more than blades or axes. Then again, a lot of readers often won't really pick up on a character's loss of depth perception as important (even in situations where it is.)
I suspect that a dagger would be the weapon that suffered the least from a loss of depth perception, if the character is using it as an assassination tool, rather than getting into actual combat. Failing that, a sidesword of some variety would probably be one of their better options if they did find themselves in full on combat, though, as mentioned, the loss of peripheral vision on the side with the missing eye would be a more severe vulnerability, especially in mass melee.
Now, the best weapon for someone missing an eye is a retinue of well trained and loyal soldiers who know that your character's experiences make them more valuable as a leader than as just another fighter. That is somewhat how this visual coding works for characters. So, while it's possible that this is some loner, very often that eye patch doubles as a bad of senority.
Also, it is worth considering that someone may wear an eyepatch specifically to prevent night blindness in that eye, when they expect to transition between bright and dark areas in quick succession. One (possibly apocryphal) example were marines who expected to fight below decks during boarding actions during the Age of Sail. Being able to flip up their eyepatch as they went below decks would help reduce the advantage that defending sailors with acclimated vision would enjoy.

The homemade sign feels heavy in your hands. Your heart pounds steadily in your chest as a sea of blue uniforms begins to unload from the massive carrier. It feels incredible to be drowning in this sea of love and reunions. Families crying in each other's arms as they make it through another deployment, another separation.
It would only be a matter of time before you could feel the same euphoria. You step on your tip toes, trying to seek him out when someone stumbles into you from behind. “Sorry,” she shakes her head, “I’m a mess right now.”
She certainly looks it, a newborn strapped to her chest in a carrier and a toddler barely holding on, trying to bolt every chance he gets. “No worries,” you’re quick to reply, glancing down at the large sign and balloons in her hand.
You pause, reading and re-reading it over again. Nicolas Arias. There is no doubt you could be reading it wrong and when you get a glance at the toddler again, your stomach churns. He is a spitting image of Nick…your Nick. You carefully fold up the sign and go to turn when you hear the little boy shout, “DADDY!” at the top of his lungs.
Why you glance back, you don’t know but your chest aches when you see him, his smile blinding as he bends down to pick up the little boy. “Hi buddy,” you hear him shout, lifting him off the ground and spinning him around. He looks back at the woman, his eyes softening at the bundle against her chest, “and hello Princess,” he coos, “nice to meet you, I’m your daddy.”
The tears spring to your eyes, and you quickly suck in a deep breath when his eyes lift to meet yours. He pauses, a deer caught in the headlights, you can see it, the raw panic on his face. Before you turn and walk away, you’d be damned if you were going to ruin this happy homecoming. While Nick is a fucking cheating bastard, and you would certainly be sending an anonymous letter to his wife later, they didn’t deserve this today.
All around you is love and reunions, but instead, you just feel sick. The parking lot is jam-packed and you look around before stepping onto the road, letting out a gasp when someone grabs your arm and quickly pulls you back into a broad chest. A truck roars out of the lot, a handful of sailors inside shouting about freedom and shots.
“Fuck,” you turn, taking in the man before you, he’s gorgeous; with blonde hair and eyes that look like the sea after a storm, “thank you,” you whisper, taking a step back when you realize you’re still in his arms.
He smiles, but it doesn’t really meet his eyes, “not a problem, darling,” his accent surprises you, maybe Texan with a slight twang. He points down at the sign crumbled in your hand, “Didn’t find who you were looking for?”
“Oh,” you glance at the sign, tossing it into the nearby trash can, “I found him alright. Along with his wife, newborn, and toddler.”
He grimaces, “What a fucking turd waffle.”
You can’t help the giggle that escapes, “a turd waffle?”
He grins, “if the shoe fits.” Suddenly you notice a figure rushing towards you and you groan, turning quickly away mumbling obscenities under your breath.
“Sweetheart,” Nick runs to your side, pulling you in for a hug, but you stay stiff as a board. “I can explain everything.” You step out of his arms putting some distance between you, the mystery man steps up behind you, towering over you like a looming bodyguard.
“I don’t think we have anything else to say to each other Nick,” you wrap your arms around your waist, “seeing you married with two kids was enough of an explanation for me.”
Nick stares down the man behind you, “Hey buddy, can you give us some privacy?”
“Lieutenant Commander Seresin to you, Ensign,” he stands straighter, Nick pailing as he recognizes the name, “and I’ll leave when the lady tells me to.”
“Please don’t go,” you whisper stepping back closer into his arms, one of his massive hands resting on your waist, strong and sure.
“Seems like she’s made up her mind,” he grins, confidence coming off him in waves. “Why don’t you go back to your family and save this young lady the trouble of putting up with any more of your bullshit.”
“I’ll go when I’m good and ready,” Nick takes a step closer, reaching for your arm, “sweetheart you just have to let me explain.” A wall of man blocks his path, “get the fuck out of my way,” Nick seethes, “I want to talk to my girl.”
You step around the Lieutenent, “I’m not your girl anymore, you’re married for Christ's sake, with TWO kids,” you hold up two fingers for emphasis.
“It didn’t bother you before,” he shrugs, “why should it now?”
“I didn’t fucking KNOW,” you shout, drawing attention from several others around you, “do you really think I’d be here standing like an idiot waiting for you if I knew you were married?! Do you really think I would be dating you or sleeping with you, if I had any idea you had a wife?!”
Nick looks around at the onlookers before letting out a scoff, “I knew you were a whore. Looks like you already replaced me, ain’t that right? And with someone of higher rank.” He laughs, “Keep this up baby and you can fuck an Admiral before the year ends.”
“Stand down, Ensign Arias,” your protector steps closer, his jaw clenched, “go back to your family and leave now. Before I court-martial your ass.”
“What the hell for?” Nick shouts.
“Harassing civilians, disgracing the uniform, threatening an Officer, the list goes on and on.” Nick pales before he spits at the ground.
“You can have her,” he glares at you, “wasn’t that good of pussy anyways.” The Lieutenant takes a threatening step closer, and you grab his arm while Nick scurries away like a rat.
You both watch him walk away before you let go of his arm, “thank you,” you whisper, feeling the tears well up in your eyes, “I don’t know what would have happened if you weren’t here.”
“He really is a turd waffle,” he mumbles and you burst out laughing, the tears spilling down your cheeks. He hesitantly lifts a hand, brushing the tears off your cheeks, and you lean into his palm closing your eyes, his thumb brushing back and forth. “Jake,” he mumbles and you slowly open your eyes, blinking at him, “My name is Lieutenant Commander Jake Seresin.
You tell him your name and he repeats it back, the words like honey on his lips. “It’s nice to meet you,” he repeats it again making you shiver. “Would you like to join me for a drink? I know this really great Navy bar called the Hard Deck, and I was going to meet up with a few of my fellow officers and their families.”
“One question,” you step closer, and his hand drops from your cheek, moving to your waist as he whispers anything under his breath. “Are you married or currently seeing anyone? No secret mistresses or lovers I should be concerned about?”
He grins, tugging you by the hooks in your denim jeans closer his lips ghosting over yours, “no, ma’am, I’m a one-woman type of man. And right now,” he presses his lips to yours in a soft kiss, stars exploding across your vision, before pulling back, “I’d like that woman to be you.”
“Fine, I’ll go with you, but only on one condition,” you wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him down and closer to your lips.
“What’s that?” he smiles, all the way up to his eyes, glancing down at you like you’re the only one around for miles.
“You do that again,” and he does.
A/N: Comments are appreciated, and yes this is me begging.

Random Satisfying & Clever Moments Of Audio From Dead Boy Detectives - Part 4
There's a few moments in DBD that utilize audio really well, or use sounds that always stick out to me while watching, and these are some of those moments!
This one is a bit of longer one, and might not make sense to everyone, but I'll do my best to explain it below!
Ep. 4 - The Case of the Lighthouse Leapers: The lack of music when Charles gets up after the trauma nightmare, then the addition of just The Wellerman song as he advances on the Night Nurse.
Using sound is very important, but so is the lack of sound. The lack of music or sound effects as Charles starts winding up the music sphere creates tension. After the overwhelming amount of stimuli in his trauma nightmare, the quiet is unsettling. It is the calm before the storm; that moment when everything is too still, too quiet, and you have a gut feeling that something is wrong.
Watching Charles wind the music sphere, speaking with such conviction, yet also composure, after everything she just put him through, it's unnerving. An explosion of blind rage would be expected, not the calculated way he twists the handle, walking and talking with full clarity and awareness of the situation.
The music sphere being wound up also coincides with Charles' emotions. The Night Nurse practically did exactly that to him by forcing him through all of that pain. Charles even acknowledges that she accomplished her goal: to make him crushed and devastated. But she didn't take into account his resilience, his strength; someone else would be helpless and sobbing on the ground after what she showed him, but Charles?
He knows how it felt. He was fucking there. He knows how much it hurt. He knows how unjust and unfair his life and death were. For the Night Nurse to play it for him like a slideshow presentation, as if he needs to be taught, pisses him the fuck off. Charles is furious that this woman has the audacity to walk into his nightmares and lecture him, as if she has any comprehension or understanding of what it was like to experience it.
I think it's part of why he mentions the memories specifically when he's about to kick her: "Those memories are not why I choose to stay here!"
Charles is fully aware of what he went through, and he's moved on, or is trying to at the very least. He does not want all the horrible things that happened to him while he was alive control and influence every decision he makes. He's not that sixteen-year-old boy trembling in a corner anymore; he does not have to bend in the face of danger and injustice. He can stand up for himself, for others, and he will because he wants to. It's not to make up for some "failure" from his life. It's who Charles wants to be.
SO! Back to the audio specifically, the use of The Wellerman song is obviously fitting since the sphere was used by sailors to "calm the seas", but also because there is something inherently haunting about that tune. It's right after he says that he's angry that he pulls the pin out; after trying so hard to hold back all his anger and pain, Charles is ready to let it loose.
The beats of the scene then follow the music. From the moment the song starts to the end of the first verse, the first "segment" of the fight happens. Charles speaks, she tries to reply, he hits her, and she reacts in that timespan. There are very faint bass notes underneath the song after he's hit her. They get louder as the song progresses, reintroducing the score of the show.
When Charles takes a second swing, it's at the start of the chorus of the song.
(The difference between verse and chorus is the starting note. Verses start low and get higher; choruses start high and stay high until the very end.)
During that chorus, Charles swings and hits her; he very nearly lines up his swings with the notes, but not quite. Then he speaks once she's backed against the wall. He lets go of the music sphere in the middle of the chorus, and completes his lines up to: "I still have a purpose!" as it ends. That's the second "segment" of the fight.
The second verse starts with him making his declaration and kicking her, and it plays out as the Night Nurse falls. The second half of the verse swells into a full score version of the song instead of just the sound of it coming from the sphere. It's the third and final "segment". Charles ends the confrontation, and once Angie disappears, the song fades out.
This sequence is such a good example of knowing when to cut the music, and how to gradually reintroduce it. It enhances the uneasiness you're meant to feel while watching Charles' anger slowly escalate. It's part of what makes the whole scene so effective.

a/n: fluff today! about 1k <3 domestic mornings (afternoons) with satoru always my fav to write about. pls support this as much as my smut works ty 💟 !! / @crysugu @hyomagiri @satohruu @shotorus @greycaelum
Tumblr media
by now, it’s late in the afternoon so much so that you’re sure the blinds are hot to the touch from the harsh rays of Amaterasu and her blessings of another bright, hot day. it’s normal in tokyo to wake up to warm sheets and a throat desperate for some water but you’ve learned to avoid it by setting an earlier alarm — take a morning shower, make some tea and grab a book.
satoru, not so much.
he likes to whine a lot when he first stirs, a plethora of sounds that leave him at how he can’t feel your warmth in his arms (“you’d be complaining even more about the heat if i was, you idiot.”), sometimes about the morning being too bright (“mister, it is twelve thirty-four right now.”) and mostly about sweat. today he decides to do all three.
gojo mumbles something incoherent when you accidentally nudge your legs into his, a childish whine how he missed you. “baby, i’m right h—”
“yeah, but . . oh, jesus christ,” his voice is awfully loud when he complains about the rays. “why is it so bright?”
“sun—”
and like always, in classic gojo satoru fashion, he never really lets you finish.
“oh eeewwugh . . i’m so sweaty,” your boyfriend has reached full consciousness by now and if it wasn’t the morning perhaps you’d think he was drunk from how dramatic he was being.
“you literally live in a penthouse, stupid, just go take a shower in one of your bathrooms.” and you go right back to your story. at the corner of your eye you can hear him pouting, crawling up to you and resting his chin on your thighs as he reads the synopsis of your book. satoru blows a raspberry, which you can feel on your hand and the spittle from his mouth makes you sigh; you think it’s due time to give your boyfriend some attention.
“story sounds boring,” you roll your eyes and put it to the side and the reveal of his stupidly cute face almost makes you cave. there’s a deep frown on his face because you’re insulting him so early in the morning and thinking your book is better than him, when really you’re just trying your best to reach your quota before book club saturday. eventually, you do give in after reading the starting sentences of chapter 18 over and over again and frankly digesting nothing, thinking only now of his body wash on your body.
it hasn’t exactly sunk in how you manage to be dating the gojo satoru, with all his cheeky smiles and inappropriate jokes (and timing too), that you are the only one to see him like this in the morning: all not what people says he is and yet he doesn’t hide it one bit from you. why is there any need to?
it’s you.
“don’t frown, ’toru,” you mumble, fingers that were previously turning pieces of paper now smoothen out the furrow of his eyebrows and the tautness of his expression. they’re soft against his skin, and while he’d like to commend it to the body wash he uses he thinks it’s just because it’s you. every inch of you is soft but not without good measure. you still stand up for yourself and sometimes your feet walk a little too much and he can feel the callouses on the balls of your feet when you accidently shock him under the duvet.
you are soft in the way you feel against him, whether it’s when you ask meekly for a kiss and when you hum under the scorching shower water as he lathers your body. you are soft when you laugh loudly and you have to squeeze his hand as you slap his back with the other, and other times soft as you chastise him for buying yet another big stock of your favourite strawberries.
soft is strong, attractive in satoru’s book, because even when your love resembles the first breath of hypnos, it still pulls and tugs and yanks at his heart to drown in you like a siren luring a sailor; right into the depths of the darkening sea where he’d let you take him anywhere even if it meant travelling blind.
“done sulking?” you asked as a mutter, hands now cupping his cheeks that possibly hold all of gojo’s cracks and insecurities and feelings together. they bring him up gently, sweaty back now quelled momentarily with a strong draft from the windows and it’s like his soul reaches the highest point of existence like he did eleven years ago.
you kiss him gently, lips moving in tandem with his as your hands lose themselves over his body and you huff in surprise when he straddles you. long body hunching over yours as you chase his lips like riko after stingrays and you both after suguru and him after a reformed jujutsu society and—
“whew.” is all he says when he pulls away and you’re equally out of breath and gojo swiftly switches your positions. there’s a big grin on his face from the attention you finally give him, “you love me, huh?”
you roll your eyes again at the stupid, harmless comment, shutting him up effectively when you lean down again and kiss him rougher this time, feeling his wet palms span the expanse of your back and up your shirt. gojo sits up and you follow like choreography, moaning softly when he tugs you closer and suddenly you think you should’ve made yourself a cup of cold tea instead.
“i love you,” it’s a whisper against your lips and you have influenced so much of satoru that he is also soft, “i love you so goddamn much.” you nod back, pulling away lightly and you swear you see okinawa again in his irises. they look just as beautiful as the day he lost his youth and gained wisdom and you still love him the same.
“i love you more than my book, promise.” you quip, forehead against his and eyes mapping out each lagoon to pond to sea in the multiplying blues of his eyes — they seem only to do that when he’s with you.
“you better!” he laughs softly into your mouth and he can taste the tiramisu from yesterday on your lips, and you can taste his intoxicating smile. the absence of you, the sunlight and the heat doesn’t matter much to satoru now, and will settle for being soft in the sheets of cloud nine. satoru will make you forget about the tea you’ve woken up early to make and all the nuances of the characters of your book and maybe the slowly rotting strawberries (you might still eat them).
“you better . .” it’s like a plea the way he repeats it but his doubts are silenced once you mumble i do against his skin like a promise, a vow, and satoru then decides he cannot wait to see you from across an aisle.
yeah, soft laced white would look terribly beautiful on you.

CAPTAIN’S LOG ENTRY 11:30 pm please I beg of a crumb of pussy
read the continuation of captain’s log here.
It took you approximately 46 seconds to sober up after the first whoop of the sirens outside the house. Red and blue lights peeked through the cardboard panels that were haphazardly stuck in between the blinds of the windows. From the continuing booming music, the thundering steps of the dance floor, and the bumping bodies, you realized you were one of very few to realize that the party was getting rolled. And you did not want to be caught in the mess of policemen shining flashlights into mascara stained faces.
You dragged your friend Yunjin out from the middle of the dance floor, much to her disappointment as she was swaying with one of the execs in the fraternity, and snuck onto the back porch. You two stumbled into a few couples who also had their fun interrupted by the sirens. Yunjin peeked around the side of the house and groaned, “It’s always the NKT parties that get shut down so early. Heeseung and I were finally dancing!”
Seeing her pouty face, you laughed, “And he’s literally the only reason we keep coming back. Their good music cannot justify the sins that occur in that household.” While NKT had some of the wildest hazing stories, their alumni donated well to your university, so it was easy to overlook.
You and Yunjin were crouched by a bush in the house’s side yard. She whispered, “Liar, you were so into President Jeno before…”
You snickered and responded, “Okay, and I still am, but he never comes to parties anymore. Plus, you did not just call him president.”
She laughed. “That’s who he is!”
The music shut off abruptly and you rolled your eyes after hearing screams from the partygoers. That meant most of the officers were likely already in the house yelling at kids to leave, so you and Yunjin quietly went through the side fence of the house to make it into the street.
Frat row wasn’t too far from your shared dorm with Yunjin, so you two opted to trudge through the neighborhood in your short skirts rather than call a taxi. It wasn’t until your head hit the pillow that you realized you were still very drunk. The you of tomorrow morning would not be happy.
Parties weren’t your thing until Yunjin joined a sorority this year and dragged you to come to a few, and you realized just how fun it was to be the messy one for once. You thought this was her way of trying to lull you into her sisterhood, and whether it actually was or not, you didn’t mind. It was funny to watch the unknowing first year frat pledges hit you with all sorts of philanthropy collab ideas at parties after you lied and introduced yourself as the president or outreach chair of some random sorority.
The next day, a Friday, you woke up with a throbbing migraine and with leftover eyeliner smudged on your pillow. You definitely missed your 10 am tutorial. Much to your surprise, you found Yunjin already awake, typing away at her desk, equipped with a sheet mask. She, too, missed her morning class.
After you returned from a shower, you called out to your roommate, “Wanna hit the dining hall for-” you looked at the clock, showing a valid 12:11pm at this point “-for lunch?”
Yunjin did not bother to look away from her laptop, “Can’t! But can you get me a sandwich or something? I have this killer paper due and I need to finish it before we go out tomorrow.”
You stared at her blankly, not that she would be able to see it, “What do you mean go out? Again?”
She stopped, “Why are you acting surprised?”
“I just assumed you’d want to go out with your sisters or something.”
“You know I prefer you,” she pointed a finger gun at you dramatically, “and you can’t admit that to anyone or else we’d both die. Also, this is a homecoming party of a frat house neither of us have been to yet! I don’t want to miss out.”
You thought about the long week ahead of you as you shoveled food onto your plate. You forgot to ask where Yunjin was planning on taking you, but it mattered less in comparison to the assignments you wanted to get ahead on before the weekend’s festivities took you completely. While you were wrapping up a sandwich and some food for Yunjin, as if on cue, she texted you.
you remember that Heeseung is in the hockey club right? he just invited us to a party at their house tonight … come thru?
“I think you have a problem, another weekend like this and you’re going to have to pay for my liver transplant,” you said to Yunjin when you returned.
She stuck her tongue at you and threw a crop top your way, “Take this as a gift in return for the food! And you’ll be wearing it tonight, thank you very much.”
---
Midterm season was upon you and with the addition of a frat-not-frat sanctioned event courtesy of Yunjin, you needed to get as much work done as possible. You made a deal with yourself that you’d complete at least one of two of your pending report papers, otherwise, no new frat homecoming party tomorrow.
You managed to find a table by the south side windows of the science library, and laid out your necessary notebook and textbook for the treacherous anthropology report you were about to bullshit the hell out of. Two hours into your frantic typing and at least 30 Google tabs later, you realized that one of the sources you wanted to use was locked online, and all the “legal” databases to surpass the paywall didn't have it available. Upon closer inspection, the source’s website indicated that it was available at certain universities, including yours.
You decided to take a break from typing. Your lingering hangover and the eye strain from your laptop screen were begging for a rest. So you cleaned your table and went to find someone to help you find the book you needed.
There was a crowd of 4 boys around the circulation desk, cackling over things unknown to you, and definitely distracting the boy working at the counter. They were exuding mischief, one of them trying to reach over to clack on a computer, and you recognized the one of them, Jake, jumping to sit on top of the counter. You stood in line, scrolling through your phone as you waited to be called to get help.
The areas of the library where the IT and circ desk were not necessarily meant to be quiet places, but you were surprised the group of boys didn’t get scolded considering how they were holding up the line.
A student walked by and shushed the group, interrupting them as they were doing their best to ruffle the boy’s hair over the counter. They scoffed at the passerby, but lowered their voices. You took this as an opportunity to clear your throat, finally grabbing the attention of the circ desk worker. He offered you a sheepish smile and shooed away his friends. The boy was about a head taller than you, sporting a black distressed long sleeve and now haphazardly messy hair.
“Oh, sorry babe - didn’t see you there,” snickered one of the boys. He had sharp features and a confident smirk. The group stepped backward to let you through to the counter.
The boy behind the counter shot the other guy a glare after that comment and ran a hand through his hair. “Sorry about my friends; how can I help you?”
You fought the urge to roll your eyes and shoot a glare yourself, choosing to ignore the group. “Seems like you're new here or something. They seem to be excited to visit you.” You glanced pointedly, as two of the guys had their phones out, likely taking a picture of their friend.
The boy extended a hand out to try to cover his exasperated face from their photos.
You continued, holding up your phone to reveal a screenshot from the library website, “Wondering if this book was still available?” The boy squinted and nodded silently, typing away on his computer to look it up.
“Yeah, it is. We have one copy on the 4th floor. Are you familiar with how the books are sorted here?”
“Honestly no, I usually use stuff online, so this would be the first time I check out something from the library.”
The boy smiled in understanding, then glanced between you, his friends - now distracted by a couple girls you recognized from Yunjin’s sorority, and the empty line behind you. “I can help you find it, if you’d like?”
You gave him a small smile, “Yes, that’d be really helpful.”
“Sunghoon, by the way. And you were right, it's technically my first day off of training,” he said as he met you on the other side of the counter, by the elevators. Seeing him up close, there was no point in denying that he was cute, especially with the furrow in his brow he wore due to the thought of his friends. His friend group were still talking to the girls, one of them with an arm shamelessly around one of their waists. Sunghoon looked exhausted, but amused, just looking at them.
You laughed as you introduced yourself too. Don’t worry, I get it. My roommate ate at my old part-time job every day I was working for the first month. Just try not to let them get you fired,” you advised jokingly.
The conversation between Sunghoon and you flowed smoothly. Over hushed whispers through the library shelves, you learned he transferred to your university that semester, and was studying Kinesiology.
“It’s kind of a jock major, I was surprised,” he muttered as he ran his fingers over the spines of some books, turning his head sideways to read the titles.
You frowned, “Why? You don’t play sports?”
“It’s not that, I just wasn’t expecting to have to take activity classes. It’s like high school P.E. all over again.”
Even though he was matching the library volume, Sunghoon was soft spoken, and he was funny without trying. You explained how you were studying Human Biology with a minor in anthropology, and he picked at your brain about the paper you were writing.
“No, Sunghoon, sociology and anthro are not the same.”
He was quiet for a moment. “Wait really? I took a socio class before and it’s literally what you’re describing.”
“I think you should stick to your kines classes.”
Sunghoon hummed. “We’d probably take some physio classes together, I reckon?” He suggested, realizing the science similarities in your degrees.
“Oh! Yeah, you’re right.” Judging on how well you two were talking even in this short amount of time, you added, “Maybe we can study together or something.”
A pause.
Sunghoon was distracted, squinted behind you at something. You bit your lip to try to ignore the disappointed pang in your chest and your internal facepalm for trying to make a pass at the cute boy from the circ desk. Following his gaze, you realized that he had found the book you two were looking for.
Your mild small talk continued during the walk back to the circ desk, and you exchanged goodbyes after he assisted in checking out the book for you, his group of friends no longer in sight.
“Hope I’ll see you around,” Sunghoon waved.
You spent the rest of the afternoon holed up at your desk in your dorm room, typing, flipping through pages, and blasting audible adderall playlists out loud. And from the corner of your eye, you could see that Yunjin was doing the exact same.
The two of you finished around the same time, and decided to bring food from the dining hall into your dorm to eat while you and a couple of Yunjin’s sisters pregamed for the night. You decided to omit your encounter with a cute boy in the library while you guys were discussing your afternoons.
Yunjin was laughing, “We were literally so crazy, rapid fire typing next to each other while Y/N’s stupid Mario Kart songs were playing.”
Mouth full with pizza, you argued, “Don’t act like that music didn’t help us finish our papers. This could’ve been avoided, but you want to drink at every opportunity possible.”
She mocked your tone, “Don’t act like you don’t feel the same!”
The other girls, Chaewon and Kazuha, giggled at your dynamic, and poured everyone another round of shots.
---
The hockey club was basically a fraternity of its own, Chaewon explained to you as you all arrived, just less exclusive. It was a place for brothers in different frats to have their own camaraderie between each other, and their parties were open to anyone. You could feel the vibrations of the music’s bass in your ribcage.
As you three pushed through the crowd into the kitchen, Yunjin off to find Heeseung, Kazuha pitched in, “I heard one of the players that just graduated agreed to supply all the alc tonight.” You stared at the tubs of jungle juice and the tens of lingering bottles on the back counter. Even the sink was filled with beers and seltzers.
“He must be fucking rich,” Chaewon yelled over the music.
“Mark definitely comes from a wealthy family,” shouted a voice next to you. You turned and realized it was a boy from the library, one of Sunghoon’s friends. He smiled, and leaned in closer to make sure you heard each other, “Library, right?”
You did your best to ignore the two piercing stares behind your head from your girl friends, and nodded. He was dressed in a sailors outfit, white yacht cap and all. You could smell the whiskey from his breath.
“Jay,” he extended a hand to each of your friends and flashed Chaewon the same confident smirk you saw at the library. “Would you all like a drink?”
“Y/N.” You shook his hand and despite the alcohol flowing in your veins, you replied, “I think we know better to not accept drinks from strangers.”
He teasingly frowned, “Hey, we’re on a first name basis; I’d think we’re at least friends now. Right?”
Chaewon gently nudged you with her elbow, sending you a hint. “Surprise us,” she said.
You took a deep breath before downing the cocktail Jay put together, a mix of coke and Hennessey. Mark, whoever he was, really was rich.
Safe to say it was just you and Kazuha left for this part of the night; you didn’t mind when your friends found boys to dance with, there was plenty of alcohol and music for you to have fun yourself. At some point in the night, Chaewon wove herself back through the crowd to find you two, her hair a little displaced and more intoxicated than you last saw her. She brushed it off as “It’s hot in here!” even though you caught a glimpse of her following a boy in a yacht cap. You left the dance floor to find the bathroom, heading to the front of the house where you saw a line of people before.
The music was quieter here, though the front of the house was still crowded with people cheering and laughing, at least you felt like you could hear your own thoughts again.
You cringed seeing the line of people all waiting for the bathroom. Desperately, you looked around a couple hallways for another open bathroom, but all other doors and staircases in the house sectioned off with caution tape. There were too many drinks in your body, you had to go.
“Now it looks like you’re the one new here.”
You turned around to meet eyes with Sunghoon’s neck, he was awfully close. He took a half step back upon seeing your surprised eyes, but gave you a smile.
“I didn’t know you were in the hockey club?”
“I know the guys - a bunch of jocks in my classes, remember?” Sunghoon looked more relaxed. His outfit looked identical to Jay’s, also sporting the yacht hat. You could see that his hair was now styled and less messy than what you had seen in the library earlier. And considering the heat of the house and your own sweat that clung to your forehead, you were surprised to still catch a whiff of his cologne. His white shirt was loosely buttoned, revealing several inches of his chest, his skin smooth. Sunghoon leaned down to whisper, “If you’re trying to be subtle about checking me out, it’s really not working.” He smelled strongly of coconut rum, explaining his boldness.
You were too drunk to care, and looked him right in his eyes, “Yeah, yeah you caught me. Life’s more fun without subtlety.” You grinned, “So what’s with the outfits?”
“The boys wanted to match, Naughty Nautical was their wording,” he shook his head with a smile. He noticed the quirk of your eyebrow, “and no, I’m still not on the team.” Sunghoon motioned to a long strip of poster paper hanging on a wall by a clock near the stairs. He pulled you towards it to get a better look at what was written. “You didn’t see the ship decor?”

12:34 AM - where is the bathroom
Sunghoon laughed and offered a hand for you to take. You were surprised that his fingers intertwined with yours, Am I about to get laid tonight? you drunkenly thought to yourself.
Sunghoon lifted a strip of caution tape for you to duck your head under first, before following suit himself. You let go of his hand to grip the stairs’ side rail and heard him stifle a laugh or two behind you as you stumbled up. The first bathroom you two encountered was unlocked and you quickly shut it as soon as you opened it. You clenched your eyes and paused for a second to convince yourself that you did not just witness your best friend’s naked limbs woven between those of the frat boy she’s been talking about for the past couple of days.
Sunghoon didn’t take the hint and laughed out loud, “Holy shit, was that Heeseung?”
“I think I’ll need another drink after that. Maybe a whole bottle.” Sunghoon kept laughing at that.
After finding an actual available bathroom, you found Sunghoon waiting for you, typing on his phone with one hand, and carrying an unopened bottle of Malibu in the other.
“Ask and you shall receive,” he smiled, raising the bottle when he noticed you stepped out.
Your eyes widened, “Jesus, I didn’t mean I wanted to actually drink a whole bottle.”
“No, stupid,” Sunghoon chuckled. He was certainly more playful when he was drunk. “I was going to share this with you, and offer you to take the rest home.”
You rolled your eyes, but smiled. “Well, at least you chose my favorite.” Your hearing was a bit muffled after making it somewhere where the beats of the songs didn’t ring your eardrums. “This house is nice enough to have a balcony somewhere, right?”
Sunghoon nodded, “Follow me.”
The balcony was accessed through one of the bedrooms down the hall, you stared at the width of Sunghoon’s shoulders as you walked behind him. You didn’t say much as you two sat on the bench outside, overlooking the front yard. There were other patrons loitering outside, a beer pong table set up, and a couple or two making out by the fences. The midnight breeze lightly shook the branches within your reach.
Sunghoon was pretty much a stranger for all you knew, yet you didn’t mind letting him take you through the house. At least he was a very cute stranger, he seemed different from the other boys you’ve met at parties so far. By now, considering you two had been alone for a while, any other boy would probably have tried to stick his tongue in your mouth. And yet, the conversation continued as smoothly as before, or well as smoothly as a pair of intoxicated students could manage. Sunghoon talked about a story or two about some of his friends, and you told him about why you chose to pursue your minor in addition to medicine.
“It’s just fun to get away from the quantitative stuff, and learn more about the human experience,” you babbled. “I want to apply to this abroad program in Prague, where you spend 2 weeks on an archeology site.”
Sunghoon stared at you, amused, “It’s kind of ironic that you wanna dig up dead bodies, while learning how to treat live ones.”
You bumped his shoulder with yours, and watched as Sunghoon took a couple more swigs right from the bottle before offering it to you, letting his fingers graze yours for a couple seconds too long. You could still feel the rage of the party downstairs, and you found it nice to be away from the center of it.
“So, do you at least play hockey with them? Or is your friendship with the team solely professional and from class?”
Sunghoon smiled, “No, not a hockey person. We’re solely transactional, I do well on our group projects, and they give me free alc.”
You nodded, seemed reasonable to you.
He made a face at how you accepted that so quickly, “But no, yeah, I also help them train. I’m an assistant coach on the side? At the rink downtown?”
“I know our hockey team is mostly composed of skinny boys, which is already unusual… But you?” Your eyes traced down his slim figure, “A coach?”
He poked your forehead, “Hey, I know my way around a puck better than half those guys. But nah, I figure skate. Help kids break into their first set of skates. But with the team, it’s usually to help with movement, speed training.”
“Damn, I didn’t think you could get any hotter,” you blurted out, honestly surprised. Usually you’d feel at least some regret admitting that, but the way Sunghoon’s ears burned red? Priceless.
“It’s not something I really admit; I got teased a bit before I got close to the guys. Had to score a couple goals against those bastards before I got them to admit a triple axel was cooler than any dekes they’ve learned.” He smiled faintly.
“You finished your paper, yeah?” You let him change the subject a couple beats later.
“Yup, that book really helped.” Sunghoon lulled his head around with the faint music, “I was just cruising right after we found it.”
“Hmm, I feel like I deserve a reward for helping you.” You know what, maybe you were a bit wrong about Sunghoon. Maybe it was the alcohol, but he didn’t seem that soft spoken as when you met him earlier that day. You were suddenly aware of how much his leg burned against yours.
“I mean, I can think of some ways,” you slurred, the liquid confidence drawing out each syllable, the words leaving your mouth before you could think of the cringe it would cause you the next morning. Sunghoon was unabashedly staring at your lips and you couldn’t resist yourself from smiling. Maybe he wasn’t so different, but you didn’t mind.
It was he who made the first move, his hand pressing lightly on your thigh as he leaned towards you. You fluttered your eyes shut, fully anticipating his lips against yours, only to open your eyes in confusion a few seconds later after nothing. He was biting his lip to not burst out laughing, his hand now stroking the top of your thigh. “Sorry, I just- it’s fun to tease.”
You squinted your eyes at him, and pulled his hand off your thigh. His eyes widened as you moved to straddle him, the poor bottle of Malibu tipping over to flavor the balcony with coconut.  “Try to tease me again and you’ll see.”
Any ounce of his playfulness was erased, one hand rushing to grab your hip and the other reaching for the side of your face. He sealed his lips over yours and you eagerly tangled your fingers in his hair, knocking over his stupid boat captain hat.
You felt his tongue press into your mouth and you let him in, your lips moving messily against his. You let out a groan as his hips grinded underneath you and you felt him smile.
You held onto a shoulder and one of his biceps, feeling it tense as he pushed your ass further down onto him. His other hand moved from your jaw to the front of your neck and you let out a loud whine; this time Sunghoon pulled away with a short chuckle, cocky as hell, whispering, “Be careful. The people under the balcony might hear you.”
“Jeez, Sunghoon, are you an exhibitionist or something?” You teased.
His fingers, now brushing the front of your throat. Under the dim light of the moonlight you could see the swell of Sunghoon’s parted lips. He playfully rolled his eyes and scoffed, but said nothing.
You smirked and continued, “I only want you to hear.” And you swore you felt Sunghoon throb under you.
He picked you up, which seemed easy for him, given his arms, and carried you back into the bedroom - whose ever it was. He reconnected your lips, a hand sliding underneath your skirt as soon as your back hit the sheets of the bed. You pushed him off for a second, your hands clumsily reaching for the buttons of his shirt, eager to feel what was underneath. He watched as you traced your hands up his now bare chest, and you pulled him back in. He pulled the strap of your tank down, exposing more of you as he traced his lips, then his tongue, down your skin. You felt the graze of his teeth and you drew in a sharp breath.
Though you had to help him with the clasp of your bra with a giggle from you and a shut up from him, his tongue moved expertly over your chest. Sunghoon’s other hand pressing into you over your panties, and as he began to tug on them to free you, you couldn’t help but push your hips up to rush him, eager for his touch.
And as you felt his fingers slip inside of you, the door swung open, another busy pair of bodies stumbling towards the bed. And, obviously in the darkness, you screamed, but so did Sunghoon. And so did the other couple. “Wait… Sunghoon?” The guy said, his voice sounding surprised and almost proud?
Surely you couldn’t show your face at the hockey house anymore after this, you thought to yourself as you hurriedly clothed yourself, thankful you were only topless.
It was your first time getting walked in on, and considering what you witnessed earlier that night, at least you and Yunjin had a common story to laugh about tomorrow morn- err afternoon. After pushing out of the bedroom, Sunghoon, however, was still burning red, maybe from the alcohol, but also the embarrassment. You laughed as you poked his cheeks.
“Well, I guess you should be out there with your friends, doing keg stands or something?” You asked.
He chuckled too, thankful you were nonchalant about everything, and leaned down to kiss you again. His lips were gentle this time, and still sweet from the liquor. He held your hand as you headed down the stairs together. Your activities sobered you up so you two headed to the kitchen for more fuel, finding Yunjin and the other girls. After a couple more drinks with your girls, you didn’t even notice that Sunghoon had left your side at some point. Craning your neck over the still plenty of dancing bodies, you frowned, unable to see his tall self.
Yunjin noticed your disappointment, side eyeing the crowd as well. “Who was that guy you came down with?”
“Just met him today, he’s no one I guess.”

And again, you and Yunjin opted for stumbling through the dark neighborhood back to the dorms instead of calling a cab, the other girls begrudgingly joining you.
Yunjin slurred, “I can’t wait for the morning recap later,” her body landing on her bed with a soft thud.
You giggled at the thought of it too, although you frowned at the memory of Sunghoon leaving you in the middle of the night. It wasn’t wrong of you to be disappointed that he didn't want to continue what you had started, right? You thought of your conversations throughout the night, and even in the morning when you had first met him, wondering if you said something wrong. You grumbled in bed, bothered by how he made you question yourself, even though he knew you for less than a day. Just another night at a party, you convinced yourself, before drifting to sleep.
You woke up nauseous, your instincts kicking you out of bed to run to the toilet. After seemingly endless minutes of gagging and thoughts of regret, you lifted your face out of the toilet to see Yunjin in the doorway, looking at you pointedly.
“Damn, you had fun,” you muttered, letting out a pained giggle after seeing the marks on her neck.
She scoffed, helping you up from the floor to stand behind you in the mirror. “Look at yourself.” While not as dark or as many as hers, you traced a finger where some red bruises were trailing your collar.
After a hot shower and plenty of water, you met up with the other girls at the dining hall for breakfast. Yunjin and Chaewon were obnoxiously laughing, recounting the story about some freshman tumbling down the stairs in a Sailor Moon costume.
Chaewon laughed, and paused to think. “I learned that I might not be into roleplay as much as I thought.”
“No…” You glanced around, looking out for any eavesdroppers.
“He kept the hat on and referred to himself as Captain before he went down on me.”
Yunjin gagged. “My biggest takeaway from last night? I guess, him… the biggest…”
It was your turn to gag.
The other girls continued to pry for more detail, and you got up to get some more water before they could pounce on you for your story. Your headache was pretty much gone at this point, but the nauseous feeling lingered. You spotted a boy with dark hair by the drink station and felt your nausea take a turn.
“Hey,” you gave Jake a small smile. He was in your major, so you had chatted with him a few times in some shared classes. “Was wondering if you knew how that freshman was doing?”
Jake turned and looked at you, and snorted as he tapped on his phone to bring up an image of the poor child, Riki, he told you was his name, tumbling down the stairs in a skirt. “The attention he’s getting from that is distracting him from his concussion.” He tapped again to show a Snapchat story of the boy himself, the tools of a hospital examination room behind him, with the caption i’m ok. “See you at the HYB house tonight? I’ll make sure there's enough Malibu,” he flashed you a vague smile and walked off.
You frowned as you made your way back to your table, eager stares from the girls. “My night was uneventful! My takeaway is that it is far more fun to dance with you guys, than to be off in the corner with some guy,” you stated as you sat down. It was true - hookups weren’t ever on your party itineraries. Kazuha and Chaewon cheered you for that, but you met your best friend’s eyes and knew she was going to spare you just this time.
Jake’s comment bugged you the rest of the meal and continued through the rest of the afternoon, as you tidied your room and finished a bit of schoolwork. Give it up for frat boys to talk about you as soon as you part ways.
Since there was always room for school work to be completed, you decided to squeeze in some time at your usual library spot. As you passed the circulation desk, you half-heartedly snuck a peek to check who was working. For better or for worse, not who you were looking for.
The rest of the afternoon was less eventful, no need for Mario Party music to help you get through the last bits of a paper. Tonight’s pregame squad was larger than last time’s, with the inclusion of Kazuha’s classmate Sunoo and his best friend, the villain of the other night, Riki.
Yunjin groaned, “Are you sure they’ll even let you in?” She gave you a look that screamed, can you believe this kid? And you just laughed because forcing beef with a freshman was not something you were expecting to see from her tonight.
Riki squinted at her, “I know you. And I’m closer to Heeseung-hyung than you think, so you better watch it.”
Yunjin cleared her throat, “Alright, fine, but if they close the door on your face? I’m not gonna turn back.” Riki faked a smile and continued to sip from his solo cup.
The rest of your friends were finishing their makeup, taking shots, and obnoxiously laughing. “You know,” Yunjin pulled you to the side, “You never explained who you were really with last night.”
“You know it’s a peeve of mine to share everything I do with boys.”
“Hey! I’m just wondering if I need to keep an eye out for someone, in a good or a bad way.”
“Park Sunghoon, another kines major and groupie of the hockey team.”
Yunjin nodded slowly, obvious she was wracking her brain through all her social circles to determine what she knew of him. “Newest HYB pledge. Transfer. Ridiculously good looking and a rare attendee of HYB events - he barely rushed but he got a bid because everyone liked him so much anyway.” She paused, “I’ll err on the side of red flag since he’s too incognito in Greek, but he’s hot so just have fun?”
“Not sure if I’m going to try to indulge in that again. Didn’t even know he was in the frat. He seemed… like he thought he was above that mentality.” Yunjin gave you a side-squeeze, and a couple more glugs of her vodka concoction into your cup.
“He sure as hell looks the part though. That’s what makes ‘em fun.”
The HYB house was larger than any frat home you’d stumbled your way into. It included a nice, curved driveway - now crowded with shivering bodies - and a stairway entrance. Several signs, - in the chic-est of spray paint on bedsheet - cursing out your university rival, lined the top floor’s windows. And much to your chagrin, considering the run-in you had today, you saw that Jake was one of the door guys.
Your friends were going over the plan on how to get Riki in, “They’ve been begging Sunoo to rush HYB, so if they come in a pair, surely they couldn’t turn him down,” Kazuha rationalized.
Chaewon was doubtful, “Boy doesn’t know his tolerance, they might see him as a liability.”
“Can’t you just pass the door guy a couple bills and call it a night?”
“Bitch, I’m literally broke. If they say no, I’ll just sneak in from the side.”
“Well, well, well.” Jake looked your group up and down with a smirk. “Now y’all look like a bunch of troublemakers. Wait,” his eyes locked onto Riki, who was (mind you, 6 ft tall) subtly hiding behind Sunoo. “You ladies can go in, but I’m gonna have to ask about the boys.”
Sunoo rolled his eyes, “Look, we brought three girls, surely the ratio will be fine.”
“Hey Sunoo, I’m jus-”
Yunjin pulled you into the house, and hissed “I said I would not look back and I meant it.”
You were astonished by the glory of the inside. The historic style of the outside contrasted with the dark and sleek minimalism of the inside. They had invested in Real Quality strobe lights and a dedicated raised platform for the DJ set. The girls reflected your awe just the same.
HAPPY HOMECOMING was spelled out in much nicer fashion, on poster paper rather than bedsheet, along the second floor ledge.
Due to the nature of the event, the kitchen - just as pristine and sleek as the front of the house - was filled to the brim with bottles and fiending students. Frat boys were behind the island dishing out drinks.
“Heeseung’s not coming?” You asked Yunjin.
She shook her head, “His frat’s having a party at their house too, but this house is far nicer so naturally I chose HYB.” And judging by the line you saw outside and the amount of bodies pressing against you, so did everyone else.
An older looking boy even introduced himself to your group, a sober safety bro as he said, and offered a hit of his vape.
You’d be lying if you said that the possibility of Sunghoon being here (which was at least 90%) didn’t kind of bother you. Even amidst the dance floor, your eyes did an occasional scan of the perimeter. If it was paranoia or hope, you couldn’t tell the difference. You saw your genetics TA, some girls from your dorm suite, and, wait, is that Riki helping out the DJ?
Even Chaewon noticed your scanning and shoved her cup in your face, a universal signal to chill out, and enjoy the night.
It was a good time for a refill. The crowd to get drinks was less packed, but still full enough to block your vision of who was pouring.
You were using your front camera to fix an eyelash before realizing you had made your way to the front. Your vision of your reflection was immediately replaced with the embarassed? expression of Sunghoon as soon as you put your phone down.
“What can I get for you?” He slightly yelled over the music.
“Rum and Coke,” You heard yourself stammer, and hoped it would be mistaken for a drunk stumble.
Sunghoon nodded. “Yes, mommy,” he visibly cringed as you blinked at him. “Ugh, sorry, the pledges have to call the girls that tonight.” He turned around to pour your drink. You, too, turned to look the other way.
If it was any other guy, you’d be laughing, but seeing him again made you feel awkward enough already. The addition of frat pledge hazing was NOT helping.
“Here you go,” Sunghoon passed you the cup. And you stared at the clear liquid inside.
“This isn’t-“
“It’s Malibu,” he said with a smile and turned to help the next person in line.
Your many drinks later helped soothe you to your normal self, enjoying the moment with closed eyes, swaying your body next to your friends’.
At some point you and Yunjin decided to take a break from the dance floor and explore the house. “Some of Heeseung’s bros are banned from this house so they asked for pictures,” she whispered, ungracefully taking pictures of semi-occupied hallways and rooms with flash. You were so embarrassed for her.
She snickered going through the ones she just took. “This photo is so creepy; there’s a guy just sitting in this room alone, like a stalker.” The irony zipped above her head.
You two began to make your way back to the action. The DJ was hyping up the house, the music stopped - getting everyone to chant profanities about your rival school. Yunjin quickly rejoined the crowds, leaving you to stroll in through the kitchen without her.
You watched the back of Sunghoon’s figure as he poured a drink for himself, then raised his cup with the rest of the party in a cheer. He was so good-looking, even from behind.
Your mind reeled, you two hooked up and surely anyone would be willing to continue what… (rather, who) didn’t finish, right? Maybe it was self indulging, maybe it was the alcohol, but you didn’t want to stop your gravitation towards him. It was past 2am, surely you waited long enough.
“Hey again,” you said simply, tapping him on the shoulder.
“Hello, mo- Oh. Hey, Y/N.” He sighed.
You withheld your cringe. “Didn’t know you were a pledge,” you half lied (You knew.. you just learned a few hours prior!).
You were thankful that the people coming into the kitchen for refills were grabbing beers, rather than asking for mixed drinks. Sunghoon’s avoiding eyes told you he felt differently.
“It’s still a new development to me.” He was being so awkward, unlike the ramble-y, giggling Sunghoon you were with less than 24 hours ago.
 “Am I speaking to Park Sunghoon, or did I meet someone entirely different last night?” You blurted out.
He offered you a polite smile, “Sorry, I just don’t really know how to go about this.”
Oh god. He was going to give you a rejection speech - a babble about how one night is one night, and how he isn’t interested in anything more. Your heart panged, were you getting desperate? Sure, you met him only yesterday, but getting ghosted already - he barely gave you any time to even recover.
He took your hand to pull you to a quieter side of the room. “Alright, if you’re not interested anymore I get it, I’m an adult, you can be straight up.”
“No! It’s not that,” Sunghoon stared at your sleeve. “It’s just that I wasn’t sure how to act… hooking up with someone at a party isn’t at all my type of thing.”
You resisted to quirk your brow at Sunghoon-the-alleged-not-frat-bro, frat bro. He noticed you were waiting for him to continue.
“And you… seemed like the opposite. I thought that you’d probably just leave me behind, so I decided it best to leave first.”
“I go for the music, the chaos, not the boys,” you shook your head. “But, I was kind of confused that you didn’t want to… continue?”
“Sorry for abruptly leaving, I didn’t really know what to say. Plus we were already walked in on, the guys are like helicopters over pledges - they’ll figure out everything so I - I don’t know - wasn’t sure I wanted to involve you.” He scratched his head, “I wasn’t expecting you’d come try to talk to me again.”
“Wow, Park Sunghoon, woman respecter, protecting me from the frat boy gossip.” You quipped. “You failed by the way, Jake made a comment to me earlier.”
He rolled his eyes and groaned - “It’s because of that stupid captain’s log. You should see the rest of it - Jungwon documented everything I swear.” Sunghoon stopped to look at your blank face, “I’m not giving a good explanation, am I?”
You shrugged.
“Fine. Let me make it up to you.”
You thought to yourself, now am I getting laid?
Sunghoon intertwined his fingers with yours again and you followed behind him this time up the staircase. The HYB stairs were tile, far smoother than your unsteady walk could handle. Sunghoon laughed at you, “If you’re like this walking on land, I wonder how you’d be on figure skates.”
“Are you suggesting you’d want to see me in public and on skates? And not in the haze of a dingy frat party?” You feigned surprise.
Sunghoon snickered, “Hey, our house is the least dingy in all of Greek.” He smiled again, “And yeah, I’d be down to see you without an absurd amount of coconut rum.”
You ignored the sirens going off in your brain about getting more involved with someone unpredictable like him, Yunjin’s just have fun, echoing in your head.
He unlocked a room’s door, revealing a typical single, dark bed sheets matching dark curtains. You noticed a few trophies on a shelf. Sunghoon frantically picked up stray clothes, “Sorry I don’t really, bring people back.” He looked at you as you leaned against the door frame for support, “Wait. You’ve had way more drinks than I have. I think we should just watch a movie? I set up pretty good speakers, my surround sound is elite.”
You snorted, “Woman respecter, certified.” You removed your shoes and climbed into his bed. The soft sheets felt good against your skin, the spinning of the room felt more obvious with your new position. The bed dipped as Sunghoon joined next to you, equipped with his laptop. The sirens in your head went off again as he slid an arm under you, pulling your heavy head against his chest. He still smelled of cologne - a tinge of spilled orange juice and fruity smoke, clinging gently on his shirt. You were more conscious of how you smelled to him, of coconut and pure sweat, most likely. Sunghoon gently rested his head atop yours. Oh god, there was no way he wasn’t breathing you in now.
Sunghoon mumbled, “You okay? Need water?” He was aimlessly scrolling through his front page of Netflix. You shook your head, then laughed pointing out Megamind under his Watch It Again list. He sat up, trying to cover his other recommendations that were all along the line of family movies. “It was for nostalgia, okay!”
You wrestled with his arm, revealing more of his lists. “Monster House I can get behind, but Boss Baby? Really?” He wrestled back, before he closed his laptop, suppressing his own embarrassed laughter with fake seriousness. Sunghoon climbed on top of you, lightly pinning your wrists against his sheets.
“You talk mad shit for someone who told me they listen to Mario Party music unironically.” You gasped.
“I did not tell you that! Plus, I’d rather be caught listening to Mario KART music, than watching a movie about a baby in a suit.”
Judging by Sunghoon’s expression, you knew you won that argument. He continued, “I might have asked around about you.”
You smirked, “Stalker, are we?” Then you realized, how did other people know that about you?
Sunghoon rolled his eyes, and decided against a comeback. He dipped his head to seal his lips over yours. He let go of your wrists, opting to grasp your chin with one of his hands, as his other supported his weight above you. You eagerly moved your lips against his, sighing.
Shamelessly, you mumbled against his mouth, “Couldn’t stop thinking about this.” Your arms wrapped behind his neck, tugging him closer to you.
You felt Sunghoon’s shoulders stiffen, as your lips trailed downwards, eager to trace lines against his jaw again.
“Hey,” he whispered. Your hand followed down the front of his chest, prying at the edge of his collar. “Hey-,” Sunghoon repeated, louder. He let out a soft groan, before you pulled away, satisfied.
“What?” you whispered, exasperated.
“If this is all you want from me, I can’t do that.” He said seriously. “I don’t want to just hook up with you, plus you drank too much.”
You cleared your throat. He was right, though he was just as playful, he seemed quite sober. Sunghoon resumed, “I’d like to just spend time with you, but if you’re seeking something else - no hard feelings.” You saw a gentle pout along his lips. You heard him, but you couldn’t resist placing a kiss against that pout.
“No! I don’t just want to sleep with you…” You looked at him, maybe the sirens going off in your head were just a false alarm. “Just promise you won’t ditch me?”
You felt his neck burn up, if it wasn’t for the room barely being illuminated by his digital clock on the wall, you knew his face would be flushed red. “It’d be hard to leave, considering we’re literally in my room,” he joked. He placed a kiss on the side of your mouth before lying back next to you, his arm sliding back under your head.
You giggled as you watched him quickly scroll past his Netflix recommendations, instead pulling up the anime genre page.
Eventually agreeing on watching Saiki K, Sunghoon’s gentle shaking from his quiet laughter began to lull you to sleep. Your last thoughts before sleep consumed you was how sweaty you felt with Sunghoon’s body heating you up, how you forgot to text Yunjin back about your whereabouts, and how criminal it was for someone to still smell so damn good.
Those thoughts were also the first ones that came to you as morning struck.
Much to your surprise, your head didn’t hurt, probably thanks to the water Sunghoon basically force fed you during the second episode. His arm was still under you, but he was now turned to face you, his other arm lightly draped over your frame - effectively trapping you in his arms.
You weren’t complaining.
Slowly, and quietly, you slid your hand to grab your phone in your back pocket. The most recent text from Yunjin, wear protection xx, with a selfie of her and RIki making kissing faces at the camera. Looks like their beef was relieved, you couldn’t help but to laugh out loud.
Sunghoon dipped his face deeper into your hair and neck, with a soft groan as if to shut you up.
Panic set in. You had to get out of there and shower. It would be an absolute disservice to this gorgeous man to keep allowing him to breathe you in.
You tried to shake him awake, Sunghoon pulled you tighter. You blinked at the intimacy of it all, sure he almost had his fingers inside you the other night but this felt far closer. It was pulling at your heart strings.
“Hoon, wake up, I’m stinky.”
Sunghoon mumbled, “I don’t mind.”
“Gross… I have to get to class.”
“Liar, Yunjin told me you have afternoon classes today.”
“Yunjin?” That woke him up.
He slightly pulled away, “I might have… inquired.”
You couldn’t hold back a satisfied smile. “Wow, I’ve known you for a weekend. This has to be a new record for me.”
Sunghoon brushed a few hairs out of your face. “You know, we actually met at the club fair last month.”
You tilted your head in confusion, “No, there’s no way - I definitely would have remembered you.” It was his turn to grin.
He bit his lip, “Well, it was more like I signed your friend’s petition, but you were at the table too. I was with Jake, you two were going over a lecture. You were too engrossed in genes or whatever, so I guess you didn’t notice.”
You hummed, “That lecture was so bad… Jake and I shared notes that night.” You watched Sunghoon’s now shy expression. “So a month, huh?” Maybe Sunghoon was a green flag.
Sunghoon covered his face with a hand, then teased, “Don’t forget you were all over me last night, practically begging for me.”
“You’re exaggerating.”
“No, I think you just can’t remember with all that alcohol you drank.”
You squinted at his smug face, “Shall we call a truce?”
“Only if you let me take you out tonight.”
Tracing a finger along his jaw, you whispered, “That sounds reasonable.”
He grinned, placing a kiss on your cheek before getting up out of bed.
“Alright, I’ll take you home. Lord knows someone needs a shower.”
You pulled him back in bed to try to smother him with a pillow. He escaped quickly, laughing at your attempt and opting to practically pick you up. Sunghoon held your hand, leading you out of the remnants of the HYB house, only letting go for a moment to open the car door for you.
His hand found its way a top your thigh as he drove towards your dorm.
When he parked, you grabbed his phone from the cupholder, holding it out so he could punch in his passcode. Sunghoon grinned as you sent yourself a text.
“I’ll pick you up at 6?” He offered.
You returned his smile with a chaste kiss, “See you then.”

Just thought of this idea just now.
Can you do a smut with a yandere greek god of war x water nymph reader, with the nymph being chased by the god until he caught up with her and takes her to his bedroom, and the whole love making thing is more consensual?
Sure!
A/N: Also, sorry I'm answering this late again. Hurricane Helene came over my state so I was literally(and still am) preparing for the worst.
You were a water nymph. A lonely one at that. Also, a confused one, because you grew up alone with only water and the sealife to keep you company. You didn't even know what type of water nymph you were, all you knew was that both of your parents didn't want you. And so, here you are, living your life on the shore of some tourist beach.
"Do you always sit there?" A man with brown skin, red hair, and purplish-blue eyes asks, sitting next to you.
"Yeah, pretty much. I don't exactly have anywhere else to go," You respond, enjoying the feeling of the waves touching your feet. "What about you? Do you have anywhere to go?"
"Of course, I do. I go to lots of places," The man answers, blushing a little. "Say, what's your name, cutie?"
"Aqua...Aquata. Or at least that's the name others have given me But I prefer Y/N." You answer, getting up.
"Y/N, where are you going?" The man asks, seeing you walk into the ocean. "Y/N? Y/N!"
And with that, you're in the sea filled with inspiration. If he could travel everywhere, then you can too. Your first stop was the island that the sailors call Sirenum Scopuli. It was flowery and pretty, and the women were welcoming. For some reason, they said you smelled familiar to them.
Your next stop was the island of Thrinacia, where you found a crying cyclops.
"Excuse me, if I may ask, why are you crying?" You ask, standing in front of the cyclops.
"He took stabbed me in the eye! I'm blinded! I'm blinded! I can never see my beloved sheep again!" The cyclops cried, making you feel pity for the poor creature.
"Oh, I can fix it if you want. I've healed many eye injuries before," You say, getting an idea.
"Really, you'll fix my eye? I'm in your debt for eternity," The cyclops exclaims, a smile on his face.
"Yep!" You say, diving back into the water, and returning with the eye of a giant sea squid. "I've performed this plenty of times on animals. Hold on, I need to get the eye out."
You pull the cyclop's eye out and put the squid's eye in its place. You work your magic on the eye and use the liquid inside it to weave your magic through his nervous system.
"Ok, try blinking. Do you see anything?" You ask, standing back.
"YAY! I CAN SEE AGAIN!" The cyclops yells, jumping around and clapping. "THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!"
"Don't mention it, big guy," You exclaim, kissing his cheek.
"Here, take sheep's wool. It can be used to warm you up during the cold," The cyclops replies, giving you a cloak.
You accept the gift and continue on your way. As you travel through the ocean, an arrow strikes your arm. You scream in pain, your blood dying the water around you red. You hear men screaming above and force yourself to see the same red-haired man from the beach.
"YOU FOOLS! HOW DARE YOU HURT MY GODDESS?!" The man screams, letting his wrath decimate the soldiers above him. "My goddess, are you ok?"
"You? What are you doing here?" You ask, gripping the wool cloak.
"My dove, are you ok?"
"Yeah, I guess so."
"Good."
He kisses your lips, and a wave of memories comes flooding back. You haven't been back on that beach in years. You've been living with him, your dear husband, Ares. One day you got into a fight with him, ran away, and had been aimlessly wandering through the human world until you eventually pushed everything concerning Ares and your life with him to the back of your mind.
"Ares?" You gasp, feeling his hands cupping your cheeks.
"The third. Ares the third," Ares says, looking into your eyes. "I had been looking for you for five long years. Do you know how much it hurt me to see you not recognize me on that beach?"
"Ares, listen, I...what were we even fighting about?" You ask, straddling your husband.
"I...we were arguing about your family-our family-both. Your family wanted to reach out to you, I was talking about wanting a baby, it all piled up and we had a really bad fight, and no words could describe how sorry I am. I should've let you reach out to your family, and I shouldn't have tried making a family of our own as if it was an acceptable replacement for your family."
"Oh...Ares. I-Is my family ok?"
"Yes. They've been living at my castle since you disappeared. They'd love to meet you."
"I'd love to meet them too."
~~~~~~~~~
"Welcome home, my goddess," Ares says, removing his hands from your eyes.
"Mom? Dad?" You say, seeing a siren and Triton.
"Hi, sweetie. We've got a lot to explain, but I think your husband really wants to talk to you. We'll be waiting at the dinner table," Your mom says, nudging your dad to say hi.
"Don't worry, I will return your daughter to you in a walkable manner," Ares says, guiding you to his bedroom.
The door shuts, and Ares is already kissing your body.
"Do you know how long I've missed you, missed your body?" Ares murmurs, kissing your neck as he slips his dress off your shoulders. "Please tell me you remember my touch?"
"I'm sorry..." You say, guiltily looking at Ares.
"Don't worry about it. I'll make you remember again," Ares whispers, feeling you up.
"A-Ares!" You moan as your husband kisses your breasts.
Ares sucks on your breasts as he pushes your dress off your ass. The two of you fall on the bed, and Ares grasps your hands. You see his toned chest peak through his white v-neck blouse and stare at it.
"Oh, you want my clothes off too?" Ares asks, holding back a smirk as he looks at your cute face.
"Yes, please. Take it off. Take it all off," You plead, rubbing your leg against his crotch.
Ares does as you say and you gawk at his glorious body and skin.
"What? Never seen a god before?" Ares mocks, stroking his 7 1/2-inch cock.
"Wow..." You gasp, closing your legs as Ares crawls towards you in all his glory.
"Don't worry, babe. I won't make a mess out of you," Ares responds, kissing your pussy and lining himself up at your entrance. "I'm going in."
"Mm!" You moan, your husband not moving to let you adjust.
"You're ok, you're doing good. I know it's been a while since you've had me inside you," Ares moans, resisting the urge to thrust. "Are you ready, my goddess?"
You nod your head and he begins to thrust. You gasp as a wave of pleasure washes over you, your hands gripping the sheets. Ares grabs your hands, guiding them so they're gently around his waist.
"You look so amazing!" Ares moans, speeding up. "I love you. I love you so much! I love you so much, I'll be with you even after the mortals move on to the next set of gods. I love you so much I'd kill the entire world and the pantheon for you."
"I love you too, Ares!" You moan, making your husband tear up.
He orgasms inside of you and kisses your sweet lips. His tears fall on your cheeks, and you look at your husband with pity. The genuine love for you flowing through his tears, send you over the edge, and you cum on his cock.
"Aw, honey, don't cry. I'm sorry I forgot about you," You apologize, kissing your husband's head.
"I've seen the bloodiest of slaughter and entire people wiped out from genocide, but you're the one thing I could never forget," Ares cries, laying his head onto your boobs. "Please don't leave me like that again."
You start to cry and wipe your husband's tears away. You kiss him, feeling his heartbeat calm down.
"It's ok, I won't leave you again," You say, touching your forehead with his.
Darling reminds them the past
Tumblr media
[ PLATONIC YANDERE HEADCANONS ] [ Leon, Haruka, Boothill ]
[ Kaleido Star ] [ Sailor Moon ] [ Honkai Star Rail ]
⚠️ Yandere, I don't support nor try to romanticize this toxic behaivor, is just for entretaiment
⚠️ This contain heavy spoilers from the character's backstory
Tumblr media
I had this idea because Boothill backstory broke me, like broooo 😭😭😭 and when i was thinking on who else wrote I just remember how what happen messed with Leon's whole life or how the other senshi had to see the kingdom of their beloved princess being destoyed in a war while they could do absolutely nothing but watch in the distance
So, yeah, this is like in an attempt to comfort their broken hearts, but in a platonic way, please enjoy 🩷
Tumblr media
Leon Oswald
Leon's life have changed completely ever since he lost Sophie, she was practically her only family and what made him keep going, trying more and more in hopes to create the scenario she wanted at her side, but after losing her his whole world just bresk
Even when he have become a internationally renowned acrobat the grief and sorrow have company him each step of the way, not being able to even smile again, just focusing on perfect his performance and he even being really rude towards any partner he had in the shows due the anger he still feels
Getting to meet you is quite dificult, despite traveling a lot he normally doesn't look at others, so you have to leave an impact to him by the moment you two met for the first time for him to actually stop and look at you, however that impact it was the start of his feelings and obsession
Leon is not exactly easily to impress and the impact you leave on him definetly caught him off guard, it was the reason why he started to pay more and more attention to you, his eyes constantly watching your every step in an attempt to find out why he can't stop thinking of you. At the end he will find out that, somehow, you remind him of her, maybe is just your positivity and gentle smile, or maybe the same wish of everyone enjoy and connect their hearts in the scenario, or maybe at the end it was just that weird feeling of comfort and familiarity, but no matter what it is it will make him snap and completely change
After finding out how similar you are to his deceased sister he will imediatly approach you, despite being in a desperate state he is not an idiot, so he will trying his best to at least befriend you, and he is surprisingly gentle and caring when it comes to you, he lets his cold and indiferent attitude aside and treats you as if you were his own family, it can be quite endearing and even make it easier for him to make you stay at his side and don't leave again
Even when the main reason why he got close to you was because you remind her of Sophie he put a lot of efforts on getting to know you, mainly by observing you since he got used to watch you carefuly all the time (even developing a stalker habits that can easily be cover up by his care for you), but as you got closer it becomes easier for Leon to open up to you and just start asking about you, or just talk about things that could make him notice more things about you, wich at the end he will end up using against you to force you to dont leave his side again
It happens slowly but Leon takes control ove your life by blinding you with trust, he is incredibly possesive and protective due his fear of losing you too, he reproches himself not being able to protect his sister so he will do everything in his power to protect you, wich lead him to be overprotective without even noticing since he just take it as something normal, and its not like he thinks is something bad
Leon keeps being cold and indiferent for the rest of the world, but to you is the most gentle and caring person ever, even willing to do everything to reduce the chances of you getting hurt, he doesn't want to take away your freedom but limits it, always making sure to stay at your side and shield you with his body at the minimum threaten, too anxious to letting you alone, feeling like if he looks away just for a second something bad could happen to you
Tumblr media
Haruka Tenoh
Sailor Uranus, just like the other senshi used to be all alone at her castle, protecting the peace and doing all what she could from the distance in the name of her queen and princess, despite being quite lonely she was happy to fulfill her role, or that it was until the fateful day when the Moon Kingdom was destroyed
Once she was reborn at the earth it was to fulfill her role again, fight against a threaten and protect her princess. Since she, along with Michiru, were going to a school to find clues it wouldn't be too difficult to get to meet you, specially with how popular she and Michiru are around the school
At first Haruka was so focused on her duty and the inminent threat that she didn't pay much attention to you, even if you were friends she didn't spend much time with you, politely excusing herself to have time to make what she has to do, still, she can't deny that there is something about you that have catched her attention from the start
It would take her a long time before letting herself get her guard down and actually look at you, finally finding out what have being so attracting of you, it could be that she can see her own past loneliness she once suffered or maybe your smile is like the one that used to iluminate her days from the distance but she couldn't protect, either way whatever she have seen on you make her look at you more and more, suddenly she is constantly worried about you, suddenly she wants to make sure you are alright, that you aren't feeling lonely and are taking good care of yourself
Since Haruka is so busy her feelings will grow too slow, she is too worried about the inminent threat that she almost forget about you (despite having you constantly in her mind) that it won't be until you either leave her and go out with other people instead (since she normally says that has not time or is too busy) or that you were directly a target of the enemy, no matter what was what made her almost lose you is what will make her snap, suddently her feelings grow to be of utmost importance instead of a vague worry in the back of her mind
Haruka wants to make it up for it and will do it, even if you dont see anything bad on it or don't even understand why she blame herself, she will slowly involve you in her life, introduce you to her friends and keeping you as close as posible (and, somehow, still away from danger) and she will make sure you never have to face danger again or think on leaving her
Honeslty, Haruka take you in her life to have you all for herself, so slowly and naturaly that it was almost imperceptible, she and her friends were so welcoming that you couldn't even notice the moment they have become your whole life, no friends outside of them or how every plan you have is related to Haruka's schedule, everyone have welcome you as part of their group but now you can't leave, and Haruka is making sure of that
It isn't that she had malicious intent, she just doesn't want her nor you to be all lonely again, she wants to be able to protect you, she wants to make you happy and make sure you dont lack of anything, her princess is destinsted to become the princess of Neo Tokyo of Crystal so why dont you become part of the big family all of them are? why dont stay where she can protect you and make you happy?
Haruka can be incredibly manipulating and charming, making you trust her blindly because she knows what is the best for you, even if you eventually realice how possesive she can be it would be too late to leave
Tumblr media
Boothill
As a Galaxy Ranger Boothill have just become used to travel all alone across the universe, helping people who he come across and making pay those who just seak to harm other, just like he used to do when he was a human cowboy
Boothill has grow to enjoy his life while doing his duty, but that doesn't mean he doesn't mean he miss the old times, the more peaceful old times when he had a home to return and someone waiting for him, after all this years he still hold a great sorrow and grief for what have happened and he is even determinated to take revenge at all costs
Boothill have meet a lot of people while traveling across the universe, but this meetings is always just a brief moment in both's life, just as he does his duty before going away to keep with his journey, so you two end up meeting each other was just another casuality, it was suppoused to be just a brief moment that will be lost on his memory, but something about you make him stop, maybe it was your innocent eyes or the way you smiled at him, the way you were kind towards him even without knowing him, or maybe you were so young that he could help but feel somewhat protective over you
At the end he didn't understand what make you so interesting and special but Boothill couldn't bring himself to just leave yet, even if he already finished his job there he just can't leave, it wouldn't feel right!
Boothill spend quite a long time at your side, being kind and helping you in all what you need, even if you dont accept at first he would insist until you just give up, and the more time it pass at your side the more he doesn't want to leave you, somehow being with you quickly grow to feel like home, its like if you were that warm home to return he have missed so much for a long time
Boothill's feeling for you grow slowly but they grow really stronge, he is just so focused on you that he just doesn't pay attention to anyone or anything else anymore, suddenly you become everything for him, clinging as if his life depends on the comfortable feeling you give him, without noticing you become his family, that family for what he would do anything, the family that he will manage to save at all costs
Boothill doesn't notices his feelings until is too late, until he reached the point where he gets in a desperate and even paniced state whenever you are away from him for too long, even having nightmares seeing you in that day where he lost everything, even sometimes he dreams about losing you along with his child. After reaching this point there is no way he will leave without you, if he has to go away to keep his journey he will somehow take you with him, he can't risk not seeing you ever again
Boothill becomes so clingy and overprotective of you that he just doesn't leave your side and has to know where you are always, he doesn't want to take away your freedom but he will slowly isolate you because he wants to protect you, he is so caring and carismatic but is also desperate, he will manipulate you on following him if he needs, after all he treats you as his own child and he will make sure you are never in danger or lack anything
OMG. Your date idea is so cute. I hope you do end up posting it, but no pressure of course. <3 Speaking of blind boxes, I feel like he would enjoy these!: Aaru Garden Ancient Egypt Mythology Series 1 & 2 from KikaGoods and YOKI Travel Round the World Series from Pop Mart. Oh! And I saw these Egyptian themed slimes from @slime.fantasies and I feel like if they had an activity for the children with them, he'd end up giving in to try them all out. Whatadork!<3 (ಥ◡ಥ)
Tumblr media
𝐀 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞
Pairing: Steven Grant x GN!Reader Summary: You surprise Steven with a cute trip to Popmart! Warning: None. WC: 533
Ended up being small and kind of a mess but short and sweet ig :)
Tumblr media
The date had been your idea. Despite living in London for a decent while, Steven never really shopped about, owed to the museum job and the hassle with discovering his DID and an Egyptian god that he unwillingly worked under. That was all in the past now and since your discovery of Stevens lack of actual activity around London since dating, it became your self-appointed mission to take him out to re-fall in love with his home city.
"Oh wow…" Was all the Brit could say as you led him to Pop Mart. Shelves upon shelves lined with various cute and colourful mini figurines filled the store walls behind the glass windows and large statues of the front. It wasn't too busy, but by London standards that still meant there were a few groups milling around.
He was hesitant to step inside, but once you took the first step with him he was buzzing. Bee-lining to different shelves, oo-ing and ah-ing at the different series of figures, from cute little fairies to weird little monsters in sailor outfits.
If Steven didn't have Marc quietly reminding him they were 'pretty broke' right now the Brit would've filled a basket with all sorts of blind boxes and bags (to which he'd mutter aloud "Sod off Marc this is my date.").
It took you softly convincing him that you could both get two from the same series and have matching ones instead, which he was absolutely ecstatic about, to stop him buying 10. Steven was always a romantic at heart, and had to hold back from matching outfits with you daily.
Steven picked out a Yoki series, a cute little bat featuring different landmarks and World Wonders. It was the Pyramid one that caught his eye, and he couldn't pass up any chance to have a matching little Egyptian figure with you.
Heartbreakingly, no Egyptian figure appeared for either of you. After Steven excitedly popped the box open and tore into the silver baggy, a little red and golden bat sat against the Great Wall of China.
"Just my luck, eh?" He pouted, but the longer he rubbed his thumb over the teeny golden nose and stared at the little stars in the bat's eyes, Steven found himself endeared.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You'd already popped open your box by the time Steven had went through a few stages of grief and presented a blue bat snug in a fluffy hood, hugged by a penguin.
"Oh your one is dead cute! That's adorable. Think they'd make a good couple too?" A toothy grin broke over him as he nudged you playfully, making his little figure give yours a kiss on the head.
"So, I take it you're a fan of the blind boxes then?" You ask with a smile as Steven continues to play with the figure in his palm.
"Absolutely! In-fact, I think we need to do this more often, make a little habit of this date, eh? Make a little collection of wee couples, next time we should do one of those sanrio ones you like!"
Only a month later, Steven's bookcases became a neighbourhood of little couples of woodland creatures, miniature Egyptian deities and sanrio characters. And each morning, Steven always kissed your little figures on the head.
I saw umineko stage ep3 today!! it was amazing. the quality level is insane. I got goosebumps several times and it even managed to make me tear up... everyone's performances felt like they all know their characters so well now 🥺🙏 the lights, costumes and choreography were all perfect too
some thoughts (major umineko spoilers obviously):
young eva/evatrice's performance in particular was just. literally perfect? the way she delivered her lines, carried herself, her laugh resounding onstage and the little things she did when she wasn't the center of attention were all 100% in character. she was adorable during the ceremony where she becomes the new beatrice, introducing herself to the goats and giggling w the 7 sisters, and she was absolutely terrifying in rosa's and maria's death scene. also mad props to the costume designer(s) who did her sailor outfit that turns into the witch outfit almost instantly
everything beato's actress did had me go :] there's a lot of cute beato scenes in ep3 and she was adorable in the goofy, endearing way og beato is in the story while still being cool and fun when needed in the other scenes
and last but not least eva's actress did an amazing job too, especially during the emotional scenes of her character (when she solves the riddle, finds the gold, hideyoshi's & george's deaths). her lungs' strength is impressive lol. it's been 4 hours and I still clearly remember her screams
overall I loved the way so many of the actors and actresses would just do little things when they were on stage but not in the spotlight/not talking, like the chiesters whispering in each others bunny ears instead of their human ears/covering their bunny ears because of loud noises, or the 7 sisters just jumping around and messing w each other, maria taking her notebook out of her bag and reading it, etc. they weren't just standing doing nothing and it always felt very in character, too. there was always something new no matter which part of the stage you're looking at
rudolf's actor looked and acted like he came straight out of a yakuza movie? ik he was already like that in the previous episodes but for some reason I felt it even more this time. might be because of the fight against the sisters before he and kyrie die (which was probably my favorite action scene btw. really cool choreography). I'm not complaining though. made me like the character even more
speaking of rudolf. at some point during one of the scenes where the adults discuss beato's first letter, he just... started massaging hideyoshi's shoulders? he did that for at least a full minute before hideyoshi's actor nodded as thanks and he stopped. I have no idea if this was part of the script or if the guys just decided it on their own??
when gohda does his night check of the mansion right before his death he was actually walking in the aisles with his lantern before he got up on stage!! he got to tell a joke and do some fun stuff before being killed and never being relevant again. rip
beato asking battler to give her a new name now that evatrice inherited hers, ronove on the side of the stage writing a stupid nickname on some paper to show her only for her to get annoyed, rip the paper from his hands and stomp on it
I don't know if this was done on purpose or not, but when eva fires the shot that blinds jessica and jessica accuses her of being the culprit, pointing at some random direction since she can't see anymore, she actually pointed at shannon's corpse on the sofa behind her. it could very well just be a coincidence. but. yea
krauss drinking straight from the fucking bottle during the golden land party scene at the end and getting completely smashed
ange!! she was so cool and cute. she punched the goats. I can't wait to see her in ep4 😭
battler literally Just Standing There at the very end, when ange and beato start duking it out before the episode's over 🧍
the curtain call was super cute. everyone got together to pose for the cameras before they realised beato wasn't here so they had kinzo cry for her in the infamous kinzo way and she graced them (and us) with her presence :)
battler's actor: "so we'll need your support -and- your gold for episode 4 to happen"
I'll Be Your Whatever - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Description: Life is full of all sorts of characters - some who come and go, and others that stay. After propelling yourself into a lie you can't (won't) take back, a certain pirate captain may have a reason to come by more often. (Chapter 2)
Word count: 1.8k
Warnings: SFW, some profanity. Buggy x afab!reader. No use of Y/N.
A/N: I've been so excited to write this story using one of my favorite relationship tropes. For now, I expect this to stay SFW. There might be a little angst and spice in the future, but nothing Rated R. I'll update the warnings if that ever changes.
The title comes from "your whatever" by lovelytheband.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ ✩ ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ ✩ ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ ✩ ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗
As a port town enroute to other, more popular, destinations, there was never a lack of variety with the visiting travelers and explorers. Sailors, merchants, pirates, voyagers, and more made up the guests who patronized the town. They stopped to make repairs and keel hulls, purchase supplies, and plot courses. Most ships only stayed for a day or two. Others wanted a longer reprieve before moving on to busier, dramatic adventures.
Despite living in a town with more assortment than the corner candy shop, it was the locals that made you grit your teeth on a daily basis. You could put up with unapologetic rudeness, aggressive flirting, unnecessary bargaining, and other sour, temporary distastes. This type of behavior was expected from visiting seafarers, but you found it less excusable from those you saw every day of your life.
So when you noticed the two locals who you found particularly unsavory, you considered hiding in the shop you just vacated. Despite years of brushing off their advances and refusing to drop a crumb of attention that’s nothing more than polite, Reeves and Bolsti were stuck on you like butter on toast. Before you could take shelter in the shop, they caught up and were thickly spreading the compliments and attention.
“Hey lovely, I thought the sun was blinding today, but it’s actually your beauty.”
“I think there’s something wrong with my eyes…I can’t take them off of you.”
“Are you tired from running through my mind all day?
“Your hands are too beautiful to be carrying those shopping bags, why don’t you let me take care of them for you?”
Blinking away the expressionless glaze coating your eyes, you gave the men a tightlipped smile and shook your head. You explained that you still had stops to make and couldn't stay.
“You make me wanna follow my dreams,” Bolsti said with a wistful sigh. He hooked arms with you and continued, “So, where am I following you?”
A pit caught in your throat, hot and heavy. The words burning you inside weren’t worth the resulting ripple effect. Gossip and rumors move through town like fire and you wouldn’t be able to tamper the words threatening to burst out. Swallowing the impulse, you extracted your arm and stepped away.
“I really do have to go-”
Reeves interrupted and offered to keep you company, which you swiftly declined.
“There are a lot of pirates around today and you can’t be too safe. I’m sure your dad-” The rest of Bolsti’s remark died under the hard look you sent his way.  Shuffling his feet, he continued with a mumbled, “we just want you to be safe.”
“I’ll be fine. The pirates aren’t the worst ones around here,” you said, hoping they got the message. Their rolling eyes said the message was delivered and ignored.
“Please, we’re better than those disgusting thieves. Just give me - I mean, one of us - a chance. We know you’re not seeing anyone.” Reeves stepped closer and flashed what he thought was a charismatic smile. There were poppy seeds in his teeth.
“I am seeing someone.” The words came from your mouth but you didn’t remember saying them. Shit.
It was obvious neither of them believed you. They were arming themselves with follow-up questions that would only sink you deeper. You had to get out of this situation. You excused yourself, yet again, and moved to sidestep the duo. Bolsti reached out and you pulled your arm back, away from his grasp and into the stomach of someone behind you. Hands on your shoulder and the offending elbow prevented you from delivering another accidental blow.
“Fuck, watch what you’re doing,” said a winded voice. You felt annoyance in the words and in the hold on your body, but not danger.
Reeves eyed the hands on your body with anger and jealousy. You didn’t look uncomfortable and he wondered whether this person was actually a stranger to you.
“Is this who you’re seeing? Your…boyfriend?”
All eyes were on Reeves. Bolsti’s, in shock, because he hadn’t entertained that thought yet. Yours, because those were the kind of follow-up questions you wanted to avoid. And the new addition to the group, because he had no idea what the hell was going on. The hands fell off your body at the accusation.
You shook your head to everyone’s relief. Except yours, because Reeves couldn’t keep his damn mouth shut. A growing smirk and an inhale likely preceded a snarky comment about how you’re lying and you couldn’t stand to hear it. Whatever possessed you to say you were seeing someone reared its stupid head and spoke up again.
“We don’t use labels like that.”
Even the stranger knew you were lying and couldn’t hold in a snort. You’re a joke. This is a nightmare. What the fuck. Before anything worse could happen, the door to the shop swung open.
“Is there a problem here?” asked one of the shop owners, eyeing the group.
“No, Mr. Inslo, we’re leaving,” you said quickly, unwilling to languish any longer in the hole you dug.
You grabbed the arm of the person standing next to you and pulled them down the street, blinking back your frustration. The sounds of Reeves and Bolsti explaining the situation - spreading your lie - faded into background noise.  Once you two were a decent distance away, you stepped down a side street to release your unwilling conspirator and wipe the tears blurring your vision.
Finally, you looked at the stranger and were greeted by a face you recognized from the bounty posters. Of course. Not just a pirate, but a pirate captain. Instead of the fearsome grin from the poster, however, he currently wore a different look. The clown-y face paint and red nose probably influenced how you read his expression - he appeared irritated but also bemused.
“You’re shit at acting.” His hard tone stung. That was a fair review. You deserved it.
“Whatever, things got out of hand. Sorry for dragging you into it,” you grumbled, deeply embarrassed that your awful performance had multiple witnesses.
“And…?”
You stared at the pirate, unsure what cue you must be missing. Realizing you needed another prompt, the pirate held his stomach and feigned an injury. He leaned to the side weakly and contorted his face, letting out a groan of pain. The odd blue tassels on his hat swung with his movement. You bit back a smile at his dramatic retelling.
“Sorry for assaulting you.” The forced apology was enough to put a stop to his charade. “I guess you do know something about acting.”
“I should, I’m known as the ‘Genius Jester’ after all.”  The blank, placid smile on your face annoyed him. “I’m Captain Buggy, the Star Clown!” He held out his arms in a welcoming gesture, which did little to elevate the tightlipped grin that didn’t reach his eyes.
“Mmm, clown. That explains the…” You waved your hand in front of your face, which seemed to make Buggy even more pissed. “...face paint,” you finished with a confused mutter, which was met by a small sneer.
You didn’t understand why the pirate was getting so fired up when you already apologized and absolved him from the shitty situation you created. Feeling tears well in your eyes again, you took a shaky breath to try and calm the agitation and exasperation flooding your body.
Buggy watched as you tilted your face to the cloudless sky. Your overfilled eyes reflected the bright sunlight before you closed them and inhaled. When you opened your eyes, a few tears escaped.
“Listen, you can go. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“What were you trying to do?”
You didn’t expect the question, but reasoned with yourself that he probably wanted to know how he got involved. It didn’t take long to share the full backstory. You hoped talking about it would alleviate some of the stress. Afterwards, you still felt the oppressive weight on your shoulders, however, it was nice to have someone who knew the truth.
A soft breeze carried voices down the side street. Buggy noticed how you tensed and correctly assumed you heard the two shitheads you were trying to avoid. Panic was written across your face as your eyes darted back and forth, contemplating different scenarios. This was like a cheesy soap opera and the clown could hardly hold in his laughter at the scene. Unfortunately for Buggy, the chuckle that escaped his mouth made him a target.
Without warning, you grabbed Buggy’s coat and stumbled backwards until you met the wall. The momentum threw the pirate off his balance. He threw up his arms to stop from crashing into you or the wall, which was your plan. You were caught between his arms while he leaned towards you - to anyone passing by, this would look like an intimate moment between lovers. And that orchestrated sight is what Reeves and Bolsti saw as they slinked past.
You let go of Buggy’s jacket, letting him step away. Your face was flushed and your eyes sparkled with the momentary victory. You were surprised to see the pirate was smiling as well.
“Not mad?”
“No, that was surprisingly effective. I think they believed it.”
“It only worked because you were still here,” you sighed, resting your head against the wall. “Honestly, a small part of me wants to ask you to keep playing along.”
“Sounds like a role I don’t want.”
You appreciated how Buggy met the energy of your half-hearted remark. It was nice to joke about your predicament.
“That’s fair. What’s in it for you… What do pirates want? Treasure? A treasure map?” you mused.
“Sure, I would do it for treasure.”
You froze. And Buggy noticed. You locked eyes, parallel thoughts running through your minds.
“Would you really? “Do you actually have treasure?”
Another pause. The two different questions managed to answer each other.
“A map. It belonged to my dad,” you finally clarified.
“A real treasure map?” Buggy asked in a low voice you felt compelled to answer. You nodded.
“Tsk tsk tsk,” the pirate waggled his finger, admonishing you for answering. “Telling pirates that you have a treasure map is a very bad idea.”
Fuck. He was right. This was a bad idea. Multiple bad ideas. This was not your day. Your face scrunched in anxiety and disappointment. Another expression that garnered an amused huff from the clown. The subsequent glare you sent him didn’t diminish his amusement.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry. I know how to keep a secret,” Buggy said with a wink. “I’ll see you around, sweetheart.”
And with that, the pirate left. He heard an agonized groan and stomping feet fade as he walked away. He shook his head and chuckled as he imagined the frustrated tantrum you were throwing behind his back.
Hello! Thanks a ton for all the work you guys do! It's been very helpful to read through your blog and adjust how I write action.
What would you say is the best weapon for someone with depth perception issues in a pretty straightforward fantasy setting? I've got a character with horrible depth perception, but he's in a position of power/influence where he needs to be armed and can't always have guards around.
Depending on the level of sophistication, I'd say that's a pretty good setup for an enchanted prosthetic eye. Depth perception does effect melee combat, but the loss of peripheral vision is probably the more pressing issue.
Really, the time when depth perception becomes a serious consideration is with ranged weapons, where judging the appropriate fire arc is as important as the horizontal angle.
Intuitively, your audience is more likely to recognize that depth perception is likely to be an issue with polearms, more than blades or axes. Then again, a lot of readers often won't really pick up on a character's loss of depth perception as important (even in situations where it is.)
I suspect that a dagger would be the weapon that suffered the least from a loss of depth perception, if the character is using it as an assassination tool, rather than getting into actual combat. Failing that, a sidesword of some variety would probably be one of their better options if they did find themselves in full on combat, though, as mentioned, the loss of peripheral vision on the side with the missing eye would be a more severe vulnerability, especially in mass melee.
Now, the best weapon for someone missing an eye is a retinue of well trained and loyal soldiers who know that your character's experiences make them more valuable as a leader than as just another fighter. That is somewhat how this visual coding works for characters. So, while it's possible that this is some loner, very often that eye patch doubles as a bad of senority.
Also, it is worth considering that someone may wear an eyepatch specifically to prevent night blindness in that eye, when they expect to transition between bright and dark areas in quick succession. One (possibly apocryphal) example were marines who expected to fight below decks during boarding actions during the Age of Sail. Being able to flip up their eyepatch as they went below decks would help reduce the advantage that defending sailors with acclimated vision would enjoy.
-Starke
Land! Sweet, sweet land!
Lumine almost feels as if she could cry in this moment. She shouldn’t have chosen that merchant vessel over Beidou’s Alcor and experienced crew. At the time, the merchant’s ship was leaving sooner –two entire weeks before Beidou was planning to set sail– and Lumine had only wanted to reach Inazuma as soon as possible in order to continue her search for her brother.
They’d been hit by a storm, and the ship had capsized. Fortunately, there were enough emergency rowboats for all members on board, even if the merchant’s goods had been a complete loss to the ruthless waves. Less fortunately… it had been several long days of drifting at sea, and their dwindling supplies weren’t about to last much longer.
“We’ve made it, Lumine!” Paimon cheers. Lumine nods firmly. “We’re alive!”
Alive, and in desperate need of aid. Lumine and a few of the other stronger sailors set out to explore a bit and get a better idea of their surroundings. Hopefully they’d come across some friendly locals who’d be able to extend a helping hand, or at least be willing to just tell them where they’d washed up on–
Someone’s there.
Another person! Lumine quickens her footsteps, even as waterlogged as she is.
“Excuse me–!”
Paimon flies ahead of her, chasing the figure that she’d glimpsed. “Wait! Wait, please, we’re just hapless travelers who –ack!”
“Paimon?” Urgency quickens her footsteps, and Lumine hurries to reach her companion. “You…”
Her voice dies in her throat.
There’s a young girl standing amidst the trees, with blue-white hair that appears almost silver beneath the sunlight. Her clothing is in the distinct fashion of Inazuman dress, a mix of soft blue and lilac colors flowing down her body. It’s almost enough to make Lumine acutely self-conscious of her own waterlogged state and haphazard appearance from days of floating out at sea–
But there’s a dark purple cloth tied over the girl’s face, covering her eyes. A blindfold. The girl is blind.
Blind, and yet she’d moved so smoothly and confidently over the rough terrain. Lumine had barely managed to glimpse her earlier, and if it hadn’t been for her coloring standing out so starkly against the verdant backdrop of the trees, she would’ve thought that she’d imagined it all in her head.
The girl raises her hand –the hand that’s holding onto the back of Paimon’s dress, “Is it yours?”
Paimon squirms. “I’m not an ‘it!’”
“Yes, Paimon is my friend,” Lumine nods firmly –and belatedly realizes that the girl probably can’t even see it. Wait. Is she really blind? The way she moved, the way she seemed aware of everything around her… didn’t really seem like the motions of a blind person…
The girl wordlessly releases her grip on Paimon; Paimon immediately returns to Lumine’s side, casting the girl an unsettled, suspicious look.
“Um…” Best to just get to the point, probably. “Could you possibly point us towards where the nearest settlement is, please?”
“Head south,” the girl raises a pale hand, the one that’s not holding the basket of strange purple grass as she points towards the direction to their left. “Watatsumi’s Bourou Village isn’t far from here. You’ll find it easily once you reach and follow the road.”
“Thank you!” That’s probably the best news that Lumine has heard ever since the shipwreck. “We really appreciate it, miss…?”
The girl remains silent. Lumine trails off awkwardly.
“… Erm, what should I call you?” Lumine ends up asking sheepishly. The girl is certainly strange, but she doesn’t sense any ill will from her. And she’d helped give directions easily enough; Lumine would like to have a name for the person who’d given them assistance.
“… Gojo," the girl says. "Call me Gojo.”
im gonna finish adwd by the new year dammit
decided to start with davos chapters because FOR ME a davos chapter never misses (yall just have bad taste, sorry to say). gonna do this more like my got liveblogs, so this will probably be long because it’s all four davos chapters.
tldr of my thoughts on davos' adwd arc is:
davos is the common folk's superhero
manderly is RIGHT why is everyone discounting him as a loyal northerner when THEY MURDERED HIS SON MY GOD these people are asking to get baked into a pie
i am so so curious about the manderly family dynamics. i desperately want a longer and more intimate peek into that family!
wex pyke is iconic!!!!!
He had a sort of webbing between the three middle fingers of his right hand. Davos had heard that some of the lords of the Three Sisters had webbed hands and feet, but he had always put that down as just another sailor’s story.
love little details like this that really ground this story as a fantasy world!! just a trio of islands with people who still got webbing in their hands!!! i know this happens irl but usually that less "webbing between fingers" and more "fingers fused together" type thing - these people just have like, mermaid hands!
Those fingers do not lie. You are the onion knight.
they say this like he's batman omg THE COMMON PEOPLE'S HERO THE ONION KNIGHT
The galleys Oledo and Old Mother’s Son had been driven onto the rocks of Skagos, the isle of unicorns and cannibals where even the Blind Bastard had feared to land
Tumblr media
RICKON AND SKAGOS MENTION
Part 30 in the epic love triangle of Salla, Stannis, and Davos, where Sallador begs Davos to come south with him and Davos refuses, going on his fool's errand to help win the North to Stannis' cause. Truly, whom else is giving me gay middle aged drama like this.
SISTER'S STEW. Damn I'm very hungry right now too.
The Manderlys are no northmen, not down deep.
CAREFUL MAN. I ENJOY YOU BUT BE CAREFUL SHIT TALKING THE MANDERLYS LIKE THIS.
It's funny that they say the Manderlys only came to the North "900 years ago" but you wouldn't say that Dorne isn't part Rhoynish just because the Rhoynar only came 1000 years ago. Like a hundred years isn't that much of a difference to discount the loyalty the Manderlys may have to the Starks!
The fisherman drowned, but his daughter got Stark to the Sisters before the boat went down. They say he left her with a bag of silver and a bastard in her belly. Jon Snow, she named him, after Arryn.
Tumblr media
JON SNOW BABY THEORY. I know it's not true but I do wonder what happened to the fisherman's daughter that helped him. Did she have a bastard of someone else's? Was it just a rumor and her identity has long been forgotten, if she ever hears rumors about who jon’s mother is, what she thinks of them.
In this world only winter is certain. We may lose our heads it's true...but what if we prevail?
fuck i love ned so much
next chapter starts with a little tour of White Harbor, which is fun, getting to see a lot of the war refugees (bet Wyman feels stupid as fuck for leaving Lady Hornwood to die and not helping her escape Ramsay when he had the chance, Wyman you fucking jag off), then Davos just broods alone like "what am i meant for" FOR BEING A KING'S HAND YOU'RE JUST SERVING THE WRONG KING RIGHT NOW IT'S FINE YOUR KING IS STILL TURNING INTO A TREE BUT HE'LL BE BACK SOON
a slave revolt was raging in the east
Tumblr media
DANYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
it’s interesting how “the last targaryen hatched dragons” and “there’s been several slave revolts” aren’t always connected as stories. probably just a comment on how slow news travels and how long the game of telephone going on is. i also love how when the men are talking about the targaryens that were in robert’s rebellion, a woman speaks up to be like “there was a girl too wasn’t there” AND she knows all about daena the defiant, very cute to me.
Robett Glover was in the city and had been trying to raise men, with little success. Lord Manderly had turned a deaf ear to his pleas. The Ryswells and the Dustins had surprised the ironmen on the Fever River and put their longships to the torch. And now the Bastard of Bolton was riding south with Hother Umber to join them for an attack on Moat Cailin. Some Hornwood men have joined them, and Cerwyns too. Ser Wylis, though, he's still a captive
just tracking northmen movements here
i love that the sloe eyed maid shows up all the way back in acok in a dany chapter, then we get to see what happened to it in a davos chapter all the way in adwd. once again, makes the world feel so connected, and the fact that it's davos, who understands the very specific pain of taking the risk to sail all the way to the east, only to die being tricked by a light in the Sisters......it's so good.
The knight wore silver armor, his greaves and gauntlet inlaid with niello to suggest flowing fronds of seaweed. The helm beneath his arm was the head of the merling king, with a crown of mother-of-pearl and a jutting beard of jet and jade.
the fact that the northerners never got any fit as sexy as they do in the books.....d&d when i catch you in these streets!!!
i forgot how infuriating that "robb actually killed all his own men by turning into a wolf" story is omg, the freys do have one thing and that's the AUDACITY because JEEZ the way they just keep going and going when even davos who doesn't know these people is like "hmmm wyman looks a little pissed off"
i am curious.....idk......robb turned into a wolf and murdered all his own men......sansa killed the king then turned into a bat and flew away...........am i cooking here?
i'm so interested in whether wynafryd is treated as heir apparent by wyman. wyman says she’s in on the plan, yet neither her sister nor mother are. this feels like a HUGE responsibility and secret he’s shared with her.
Davos asking for a book so he can keep at his reading...my heart...the little librarian in me started crying omg
king hon stark name drop…..the wolf den raised to defend against raiders….
I rose up from flea bottom to be a king’s hand and I learned how to read and write.
i’m sorry…..i’m crying again…..he learned how to read and write, on part with being the hand of the king….slight personal story but my great uncle dropped out of school in 6th grade to sell newspapers (he wasn’t a newsie, his dad has a truck, they did it together, which sounds slightly less like a dickens novel) but anyways he had very poor reading and writing skills and idk it’s just always something that gets to me about davos, that the reading is what he holds so dear, as dear as stannis’ favor!
PICTURE ME SCREAMING “ROBBEEEEEEEEEEEETT” AND RIPPING MY SHIRT OFF. NORTHERN POLITICS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
i had to calm down i was so excited i was doing that thing where your eyes keep jumping down the page so you’re mixing up you’re reading.
They crossed the castle’s godswood, where the heart tree had grown so huge and tangled that it had choked out all the oaks and elms and birch and sent its thick, pale limbs crashing through the walls and windows that looked down on it. Its roots were as thick around as a man’s waist, its trunk so wide that the face carved into it looked fat and angry.
britney_yeah.gif
What Did I Just Say Up There. So stupid to think Wyman isn’t just as Northern as the rest of them. If we wanna start getting tacky with it, Wyman is so ready to get tacky with it. Sorry to Freys & Lannisters but I think the pies is a cooler war crime!
“PORRIDGE FOR THE DEAD MAN.” Garth the gaoler is a comedian actually omg promote him to court jester!!
The north remembers, Lord Davos. The north remembers, and the mummer’s farce is almost done. My son is home.
Tumblr media
Wex is soooooo fucking funny, like setting Theon up to feel up his own sister on Pyke & being way too pleased about it, then being the first to join up for Theon’s last stand and forcing a bunch of proud old dudes to die for that idiot but managing to survive by hiding literally inside the Weirwood, and then over dramatically throwing a dagger at the island of skagos on a map to show Davos where Rickon is. This kid is funnier than most adults i know lmao, Wex Pyke you’re an icon.
goofy prompts: Buck gets chosen by the magical object of your choice to be a super hero (lantern ring, miraculous, sailor moon style, as you like! )
Ooh, nice choice 😆 Okay, let' make this work!
Magical Guy Tommy Kinard
Buck had thought something was... weird about his boyfriend. Not in a bad way, no. But there were moments where, when disaster struck, Tommy would run away and say that he had to get to Harbor Station for an emergency call.
And.
And Buck had talked to Lucy about this yesterday, only for Buck to find out that Tommy in fact wasn't going to Harbor Station for air ambulance duty whenever something major happened to the city of Los Angeles. Which made Buck wonder - where was Tommy going? And what was he doing?
Buck was going to just ask Tommy point blank.
He really was.
But then.
He saw it.
A fucking transformation sequence.
Buck wasn't even trying to sneak up on Tommy or anything. He was heading to Tommy's front door just as he got the alert about the earthquake.
And there Tommy was.
At the edge of what Buck could see in the window looking into Tommy's living room.
Watching as - as Tommy did a wild amount of choreo with a wand before lights and colors and sparkles appeared over him, transforming him into a - a very vibrant sailor uniform.
Into The Hot Sailor Pilot that was always on the news.
Before.
Wow, how was Tommy so bad at keeping his secret identity a secret (how was Buck so blind to it for a month of dating this guy?)? Because the man was running out his front door and bumping into Buck!
"Uh," said Tommy, as if he forgot about the Muay Thai lessons, "I can explain."
"Yeah. Later. Uh, the earthquake, right? I'll see you after you help with disaster relief," said Buck, who felt like he was taking this whiplash of news pretty damn well.
"Thank you. I lo - like you. I like you," said Tommy as he gave Buck a big hug, "I'll explain everything later!"
And with that, Tommy flew off into the sky.
And.
Evan, despite himself and knowing that this was a serious revelation, wondered if there was a time limit to superpowers from a magic wand or if they could use that for sex.
Steve sighed after fixing up his hair for what felt like the hundredth time as he sat, waiting for any sign of the friend that Robin had sent to meet him. He was no stranger when it came to dates, but this had been the first time he’d ever gone on a blind date.
Robin said she’d be perfect for him, she was nothing like any of the other girls he’d been on dates with or flirted with. Which was perfect, considering how him trying to find himself a date never really worked out very well in his favor. But he trusted Robin.
He was just hoping he wasn’t set up with someone who was completely the opposite of his type. All he was hoping for was someone that at least acted normal. He needed someone to help make his life feel normal again.
He looked around the restaurant to try and spot you but to be honest he didn’t really know who he was looking for. All Robin told him about you was that you were a really cool person and you had a lot of different hobbies and interests, but she was hoping that you being opposites might help the attraction a bit more.
Steve almost jumped as he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder, and he gave you a kind smile as he saw you standing behind him.
“Are you Steve? I’m (y/n), I’m Robins friend.”
You were pretty, he couldn’t deny that. But once he saw you he felt like there was something off.
“Hey! Yeah, that’s me, it’s nice to meet you.”
He stood up from his chair and kindly shook your hand, guiding you to the other side of the table to push your chair in for you. Wether this would work or not, he still wanted to make a good first impression.
There were a few moments of awkward silence between the two of you as you sat across the table from one another, and Steve almost let out a sigh of relief as soon as he heard you start to talk.
“I’m guessing this is your first blind date too?” You asked him with a smile.
“Yeah,” He said with a laugh, “It’s alright though, i trust Robin. How do you two know each other?”
“We were best friends in elementary school, my family moved a few towns over freshman year but we still stayed in touch. What about you guys?” You asked.
“We met working at the mall together. I guess once you’re forced to work together in stupid sailor suits you’re friends forever.”
You shared a laugh and you felt a bit of blush rise to your cheeks.
Robin wasn’t lying when she told you that Steve was a good looking guy, not really your type, but he did have a pretty cute smile.
“So did Robin tell you anything about me?” You asked him, reaching for the glass of water across from you and taking a sip.
“Not really,” Steve said with a nervous laugh, “she said you were pretty-and you are-and she also said that she thinks we’d be a good match, but i think that’s about it.”
“She told me she thinks we’d be a good match too! I guess we should see if she’s right, what kind of stuff do you like? Music, movies, i wanna hear it all!”
“Oh no, i want to hear about you first!” Steve said to you, always the gentleman, “Tell me about yourself.”
“Alright, let’s see…” You racked your brain trying to think of some of the basics of yourself, “I really love music, it’s a big part of my life. Bands like The Cure, Wham!, and Huey Lewis and The News are some of my favorites but i think my favorite genre has to be heavy metal.” You said with a giggle.
“Really?” Steve asked with a smile, his eyebrow raised in curiosity, “You don’t really look the type to listen to music like that. Not that you have to look a certain way to listen to music, i’ve just got a friend who’s into that kind of music and you can tell almost instantly from the way he looks.”
“I get that a lot.” You giggled, “Most of the time for work or even when i’m meeting new people i like to just dress up… ‘normal’ i guess you could call it. I know that style isn’t for everyone so i wait until someone knows my personality first before i show them that side of myself. I’m sure your friend knows how judgy some people can be just from seeing that kind of style on someone.”
“Oh yeah,” He smiled, “unfortunately he knows those types of people all too well. But i know he’s a good person, just like i’m sure you’re a good person.”
You smiled to one another for a moment before the waiter came by for your orders, and after he left the table with your menus there were a few awkward moments of silence. As to be expected on any first date, especially a blind first date.
“So, what kind of music do you listen to?” You asked Steve, taking another few sips of your drink.
“I suppose it’s similar to yours, it’s really a bit of everything. Of course i like The Cure, who doesn’t, but i also really love Duran Duran, Beastie Boys have some great hits, and INXS too! I guess i’m just an average guy with an average music taste.” He said with a laugh.
“There’s nothing wrong with that!” You smiled, “Everyone likes what they like! As long as they’re not judging other people i feel like having an average music taste or a unique one is all the same.”
Steve nodded, sharing the same opinion as you. Maybe this blind date wouldn’t be as bad as he imagined.
“Alright, so we’ve got one thing we agree on! What about movies? Favorite movie, least favorite movie, genre?”
“That’s a good one! I guess i would have to say my favorite genre is horror. I love all different kinds of movies but horror has to be my favorite.”
Steve nodded as he listened to your response, though he did have a thought at the back of his mind.
From the way you’re describing yourself, it seems like you’d get along with Eddie a lot better than him.
He thought you were a really nice girl, very pretty obviously, but just based on interest he was surprised Robin didn’t try to set you up with Eddie first.
“What kind of movies do you like?”
You asked Steve, interrupting his train of thought.
“I guess if i had to pick a favorite genre, i’d say those goofy teen rom coms. You know, Sixteen Candles, Dirty Dancing, Can’t Buy Me Love. I don’t know what it is about those movies but they just reel me in you know?”
You giggled at his response, not hearing that kind of answer from other guys that looked like Steve. Handsome, put together, he was someone who seemed like he had a cool exterior at first but now that you were getting to know him he seemed more and more like someone you would be friends with. It’s not that he wasn’t cute or he wasn’t charming, he had those two boxes checked off quite easily, he just wasn’t normally your type.
The waiter soon returned to your table with your meals and throughout the night you and Steve shared a few laughs and funny stories with one another. Steve was someone you would adore being friends with, and you knew exactly why Robin was his friend too. Not to mention it gave her someone to pick on throughout the day, she needed someone like that. But you thought this was a blind date? Those friend feelings arose halfway through the night, you two had a decent amount in common and just enough differences to keep things interesting but throughout your dinner you just didn’t get that spark that usually happens on dates. To be honest, you were hoping that Steve was able to pick that up too.
Nothing worse than picking up on the wrong signals.
He cleared his throat gently to get your attention back to him as you finished your dinners and you looked up to him once more.
“You know…” He started, a nervous laugh on his lips, “I think it’s quite funny that Robin thought you and I would be a perfect match, not that i don’t think we would be! It’s just that,” He let out another laugh, “You’ve got much more in common with another friend we have, i’m surprised she didn’t set you up with him instead.”
You smiled to him, knowing that he wasn’t meaning anything bad by it, but this mystery boy he was mentioning definitely caught your attention.
You had never really been introduced to people with the same interests as you, especially a boy, given the small town you lived in. But it was nice knowing that Robin and Steve knew another person you would get along with. And you wanted to kick Robin for not setting you up with this metal boy.
“That’s alright! I mean given the fact that he’s Robins friend, and yours too, i’m sure i’ll meet him eventually.”
“You definitely should! You know, i don’t know if it’s right of me to tell you about another guy while we’re on a date, but i think you two would get along pretty well.” He said to you with a smile.
“I don’t take any offense to it. You know, to be completely honest with you,” you leaned in close to him and lowered your voice a bit, “i’m kind of glad we both agree that we didn’t really feel those ‘relationship’ feelings you know? You’re a great guy, but you’re someone i think i’d get along better with as friends.”
“I couldn’t agree more.” Steve smiled, “I’m also glad you’re the one that brought it up, i didn’t want to be the asshole that told you i just wanted to be friends on the first date.”
You giggled and picked up your water glass to clink with his,
“How about we agree that this isn’t a date, it’s more of… making a new friend?”
Steve smiled and picked up his glass, gently clinking it with yours in a cheers,
“To making new friends!”
The two of you smiled and sipped your drinks, Steve setting his down and calling the waiter over for the check,
“Since this did start out as a date, i feel it’s only necessary to still be the gentleman and pay. BUT, i need you to do something for me…”
You cocked your head to the side and shot him a strange look,
“What’s that?”
“You need to come and hang out with us all next week. It’ll be fun! We usually go to my place, or Robins, there’s going to be a bunch of us there. Including that guy i was telling you about, and a few of our other friends. You in?”
You thought it over for a moment.
It would be nice to see Robin again, and of course you’d love to hang out with Steve. Not to mention that metal boy would be there.
“Id love to! It sounds like fun.” You said to him with a smile.
“Awesome! You free on Friday?”
“Sure am.”
“Perfect, let me get you my address and phone number just so you know where to go.” Steve grabbed the pen on top of the check and wrote his address and number for you onto the back of the receipt, handing it to you, “There. And if you lose this until then, i’m sure Robin knows exactly where to go.”
“I’m excited! It’ll be nice to get to hang out with you and Robin, and meet some new people too.”
“You’ll fit right in with everyone, they’re gonna love you.”
Especially Eddie, Steve thought as he stood up from the table and quickly made his way around to pull your chair out for you, earning another giggle from you.
“Still a gentleman, hm?”
“Always.” He said to you with a smile.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So, tell me again how you met this girl?” Eddie asked Steve as they walked through Steve’s home into the living room.
As always, Eddie was the last person to arrive, but everyone else expected it from him. It had happened too many times for it to not happen tonight too, even when Steve said he had a girl for him to meet.
“Robin set me and her up on one of those blind date things, but we’re better off as friends. YOU, however, would be perfect for her so you’re lucky i like you enough to invite her over so you can meet her.”
Eddie scoffed and rolled his eyes with a smile, but as soon as the two turned true corner he froze as his eyes laid upon you.
You were sat between Robin and Nancy on the floor, talking about got knows what when Argyle cut in and got a few giggles out of the three of you.
Steve shot Eddie a strange look as he saw him standing awestruck in the hall,
“You alright?”
Eddie grabbed Steve’s collar and quickly pulled him back into the hall, eagerly whispering to him to keep from the rest of you hearing,
“THAT is the girl you brought for me? HER?”
Steve cocked his eyebrows, thinking he somehow had done something wrong from Eddie’s tone,
“Yes?… Is that a bad thing?”
“Bad thing?!” Eddie peeked back into the living room to get one last look at you, seeing your pretty smile and your bright eyes, “Steve you’re telling me you got set up with a girl that looks like… THAT?! And you WERENT interested?”
Steve smiled, finally hearing the mixture of nervousness and excitement in Eddie’s voice,
“No, she’s not my type. But i know she’s your type so i asked her to come along for tonight. She seemed to like you from what i told-“
“What did you tell her about me?” Eddie said, quickly cutting off Steve mid-sentence.
“I just told her you had similar interests! Same taste in music and movies, plus she’s got a cute smile and i know you love it when girls have a cute smile.”
“Hey, don’t talk about my girl that way.”
“Your girl?” Steve laughed, “You don’t even know her name yet.”
“…Well what’s her name?”
“Go ask her!” Steve said, pushing Eddie back and grabbing hold of the back of his jacket as he walked the two of them into the living room.
As soon as you looked up towards Eddie with that pretty smile on his face he knew he wouldn’t even be able to say ‘Hello’ to you.
The rest of the group welcomed Eddie with all smiles, Robin giving him a quick roll of the eyes,
“It’s about time you showed up, we were thinking you were just gonna skip out.”
“Of course he wouldn’t!” Steve said happily, letting go of his grip on Eddie’s jean jacket but still keeping his hand to the middle of his back, “Eds, this is (y/n), she’s Robins friend.”
You smiled to Eddie as Steve introduced you and you gave him a little wave from your spot in the couch, your cheeks blushing the sweetest shade of pink as you muttered a quiet,
“Hi.” To Eddie.
All he could do was stand before you and stare in awe, that is until Steve brought him out of his trance with a quick smack to his back.
“Hi!” Eddie said to you, nearly shouting.
You giggled a bit seeing how clearly nervous Eddie was just from being in your presence, and it was cute just to see how he acted before even officially meeting you.
Eddie was definitely how Steve described him. Tall, long hair, pretty brown eyes, and from his style it seemed like he would be acting a lot more confident than he was but just from a simple exchange of ‘hello’s you could see right through it.
He was just another shy nerdy boy getting nervous around a pretty girl.
The night went on as it normally did. Everyone talking and sharing laughs, watching movies and listening to music, at one point someone threw out the idea to order pizza and it felt like the greatest idea you’ve heard all night.
Steve grabbed the menu for the local place and with everything you all had wanted to order it would be a lot cheaper if someone went to go pick it up rather than delivering it.
“Well who’s gonna go pick it up?” Johnathan asked the group, but of course no one wanted to leave the party.
You all looked at one another for a moment before Eddie finally spoke up,
“I was the last car in the driveway, i can go pick it up.”
“(y/n) can go with you!” Robin said to him with a smile, and you could see how Eddie tensed up.
You flashed Eddie another smile as you stood up from your place on the couch,
“Sure, i don’t mind. You’ll probably need some help with all the stuff we ordered.”
Eddie smiled and nodded as the two of you got ready to head out, giving everyone a few waves before stepping out into the dark night, the gravel of Steve’s driveway crunching under your feet as you made your way down to Eddie’s van.
The walk was slow and quiet, but as you approached the van Eddie quickly picked up his pace, taking a step in front of you to open the passenger door for you, earning a smile from you.
“Wow, what a gentleman,” You said with a giggle as you climbed up into the passenger seat, “thank you, that’s sweet of you.”
“Well i think a pretty girl like you should be treated like one.” He said to you with a smile before shutting your door and making his way over to the drivers side.
You could see the pink covering Eddie’s cheeks the moment he shut his car door. And as much as you wanted him to be the one to initiate a conversation you knew that he was probably just too nervous to. So adorable.
“You know, you’re a lot like Steve described you.” You said as he pulled out of the driveway.
“Really?” He asked you, “Nothing too bad i hope.” He laughed nervously, his grip on the steering wheel getting tighter.
“Oh no! Nothing bad, i promise.” You said with a giggle, watching every so often as the streetlights illuminated his face beside you, “He said you and me were pretty similar actually.”
Eddie smiled, cocking his eyebrows as he looked over to you,
“Really? Us?”
You nodded and looked down to your lap, trying to hide the lightest blush on your cheeks. You knew the darkness around you would hide it but still, you didn’t want him to see how much he made you blush.
“So tell me about you then, what kind of stuff are we into?” He said with a smile.
“Hm…” You thought for a moment, smiling to yourself as you remembered the same conversation you had with Steve not even a week ago, “Well, i really like horror movies. Especially the ones from the 70’s, like the types of movies with all the gore and the really bad effects.”
“No way, pretty girls aren’t into that kind of stuff,” He said with a laugh, “i feel like you’re messing with me.”
“I’m not!” You giggled, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Eaten Alive, movies like that are my favorite.”
“Alright fine, but there’s no way we’ve got the same taste in music, i don’t think i’ve met any girls that listen to the same bands i do.”
“Well let’s hear some of the bands you like, i’ll tell you if i’ve listened to them.”
“Alright, um…” Eddie racked his brain to think of the most listened to cassettes in his collection at the moment, “Annihilator?”
“I really liked their first album! But i wasn’t really a fan of Crystal Ann.”
“Wow, i didn’t think that would’ve been a band you were into.” Eddie said with a smile, turning down the street, “Let’s see… What about Metal Church?”
“I love them! I think they might be my favorite band to be honest with you.” You giggled.
You thought you could hear Eddie giggle along with you under his breath, and you were hoping to hear it a few more times that night.
For a boy you quite literally just met, he was just so enchanting. It was nice to have someone to talk to.
Eddie pulled into the parking lot of the pizza place and as you unbuckled your seatbelt he stuck his hand out to stop you. They were calloused but still so soft on top of yours.
“Don’t worry about it, i’ve got it sweetheart. You just sit there and look pretty.” He said to you with a cheeky smile.
You playfully rolled your eyes and smiled as you sat back into your seat.
Eddie made his way inside with the money and you watched him pick up the pizza boxes and set a few brown bags on top of them, quickly bringing them back out to the van and setting them in the back before jumping back into the drivers seat.
“That was pretty quick,” You giggled, “you didn’t need to rush back out here.”
“Sure i did.” He smiled to you as he started the van up again, “I got a pretty girl waiting in here for me.”
You smiled back to him and turned yourself away, feeling the heat rising on your cheeks as you blushed. He was a bit dorky, but at least he was honest.
The drive back was quieter than normal, though Eddie only had himself to blame. For some reason, whenever you tried to start up another conversation he would give you short answers, not really sure how to continue talking to you. It wasn’t anything he meant to do with ill intent, he loved talking to you, but the boy was just so nervous around you.
Sure, you had wonderful conversations on the drive up, and the things he learned about you were only making him fall harder for you, but he was worried if he was thinking too much into things.
You had the same taste in movies, music, and from what he could tell you seemed like a genuine person. If you were Robins friend he knew that for a fact, but since she thought you would work better with Steve he was curious as to how he was holding up with you.
Did you like him?
Were you giggling at him because he was being cute and funny or because you felt like you needed to?
Was it a step too far calling you pretty so many times?
The boy felt love struck. Like he was experiencing his first crush all over again. He didn’t know what it was about you, but he was wrapped around your finger without even knowing it.
As he pulled back into Steve’s driveway, he finally addressed the silence on the ride home,
“Sorry, i know i was kind of quiet on the way back…” He said with a nervous laugh.
“It’s ok! Don’t be sorry, i was just worried i said or did something wrong.” You nervously smiled to him, hoping that wasn’t the case.
“Oh, no! No, you didn’t say or do anything, i’m sorry. I don’t know why i was so quiet on the way back. Honestly i think it’s because you make me a little nervous…” His sentence trailed off, hoping that you didn’t hear his last few words. Eddie didn’t want to seem like the type of guy who got too scared around girls to even talk to them.
You smiled to him and glanced over at him from the side,
“I make you nervous?” You giggled, Eddie smiled again hearing your laugh.
“A little…” He admitted. He never felt this vulnerable to quickly but with you it just felt so natural.
“You don’t have to be nervous around me! I think you just need to get to know me better.”
“Yeah…” A sudden thought popped into Eddie’s head, one that he knew would either make or break whatever possibilities of a relationship he had with you, but he had to make his move sometime, “I guess you’re right. How about next week we can get to know each other better? Just you and me?”
“You mean like a date?” Your sudden question threw him off. He was shocked you seemed so eager for him to ask, and the little twinge on excitement he heard in your voice was enough to confirm his suspicions that he made the right choice asking you.
“Yeah, like a date! Robin told me you live a little ways out of town but i don’t mind driving out a little bit. How about i pick you up at 6 on saturday and show you some of my favorite places around town?”
You smiled and felt a bit of blush rise to your cheeks, but you didn’t care if Eddie saw it,
“It’s a date.” You leaned over and before he could even give you a proper response, the gentle peck on his cheek was enough to make his face red.
You giggled and quickly jumped out of his van, him slowly following after you as he grabbed the food from the back.
The rest of the gang were waiting inside for the two of you, and they would’ve questioned Eddie’s strange demeanor had they not been starving and waiting for their food. Johnathan and Argyle were the first ones to start scarfing down the pizza as Robin and Nancy took out the rest of the appetizers and Steve grabbed some plates.
You wandered over next to Robin to help set up the rest of the food and Eddie wandered off to get some drinks when you felt a nudge on your arm,
“So?” Robin asked, “How was your ride with loverboy?”
“Shush!” You nudged her arm back with a smile, “And it was good. He’s taking me out on a date on saturday!”
Steve cut into your conversation as he set the plates down next to you,
“See! I told you they’d be perfect for each other.”
“Alright, fine, sorry.” Robin said with an eye roll, “I’ll never bother setting you up with someone ever again.”
“Woah, i never said that.”
“You just have to set him up with people that are similar to him instead of the opposite.” You said to Robin with a smile.
“My bad for trying to play cupid, can we just eat?” She gave you and Steve another eye roll but you both
Eddie wandered back over to the table and grabbed two plates, making himself one along with one for you with two cans of soda under his arms,
“(y/n), come sit with me?” He asked you with puppy dog eyes, holding up the plates to convince you further.
Steve and Robin watched as the two of you sat at the living room table, a conversation quickly starting up between the two of you on the couch but they were respectful enough to not try and make out whatever it was you were talking about. They’d see how things worked out eventually.
Steve smiled as he saw the two of you getting along so perfectly already and leaned over to Robin,
“You really thought i would make a better match for (y/n) than Eddie? Look at them, they’re perfect together.”
“They really are, aren’t they?”
Robin smiled, watching as Eddie slipped his jean jacket off to show you a few of the tattoos on his arms.
“You know i guess you didn’t do too bad playing match maker,” Steve said to her, “you just have to wait for the matches to sort themselves out.”
“Yeah, i guess this one just worked itself out for the better.” Robin looked around at the rest of the group, seeing Nancy sitting with Argyle and Johnathan, doing her best to keep the two of them from making an even bigger mess. She laughed to herself and nudged Steve, motioning him to look over at Johnathan and Argyle sharing a laugh,
“You think that’ll ever work itself out?”
