Damien Byrne

Damien's birthday is July 23, his star sign is Leo, He is approx. 2,024 years old and he was born in his Universe's North America. He is pansexual/panromantic ajd his s/o is Nadine Sinclair. He likes photography and playing violin and piano, his favourite colour is teal and he his favourite animal is wolves. He enjoys reading fiction novels and gardening, his favourite flower is a rose and his favourite fruit is strawberry.

Damien spent his first five years with his mother in her cottage, he would help her with the garden and she would teach him spells and how to craft protective necklaces and bracelets. He was homeschooled and spent a lot of time in the study, when he wasn't with his mother or studying he was exploring the forest; careful not to go outside the boundary his mother had made.

Damien's mother, Vala Byrne, was a witch who lived in a small cottage near a village, she would go into the village for supplies she couldn't grow or make herself and the villagers would always stare and whisper about her until she left. His father, Lucien, was a demon, he could only visit them very rarely as chaos was rising among his world and he was one of the few able to keep it under control.

When his father would visit he would teach Damien the history of his people and show him the secrets of his world, he shows Damien the darker side of magic. Damien remembers his father being caring and loving yet stern, nothing how demons were described in the books from the villages makeshift library. They were a happy family, Damien was happy.

On his sixth birthday another demon appears whilst Damien is asleep, he attacks his mother and she fights him off long enough to grab Damien and flee to the forest. During the chase Damien wakes and his father appears to fight the other demon, Damiens mother hides him behind a waterfall and gives him a locket with a protective spell cast on it. That's the last time he sees his parents, he goes back to the cottage to find it burned down and his parents no where to be found. Damien wanders the forest, far outside the boundary, too lost in his heartache and pain to think of where his sore feet were leading him.

He collapses by a willow tree in the middle of an open field and when he wakes he finds he's been taken in by a family hiding deep in the forest. Samuel, a werewolf, and Elias Abdi, a healer, fathers to a little girl named Saikei. They welcome Damien to stay and being too depressed to leave he did, he helped Samuel collect firewood and Elias with his garden. Saikei is older than him by a year and calls him little brother to annoy him. Over time he grows close to them and while he still mourns the disappearance of his parents he finds home and comfort within them.

When Damien is 9 the same demon that attacked his parents attack Saikeis parents, Damien is awake this time and tries to help Samuel and Elias but they tell him to take Saikei and run; he doesn't want to leave them but he follows their wishes. He and Saikei run to one of Saikeis favourite hiding places and the next day they come back to find her home destroyed, the only thing left being Elias' journal.

Damien and Saikei wander until they find a small village and they make a home in an attic of a church, Damien and Saikei do small odd jobs for the villagers to earn money and food and they manage to sustain themselves like that for a long time. They avoid making friends due to their new fear of losing those they get close too. As Damien and Saikei aren't fully human they age slower to humans so eventually the villagers begin to notice they don't seem to be aging and when they get hurt they seem fine the next time they see them. So Saikei and Damien leave and start a rotation of moving from village to village every few years and eventually start travelling overseas.

When they both are 18 and 19 they move to Japan, they buy a house in the country and while Saikei mingles with their neighbors Damien tends to their much larger garden and sets up their house. Saikei meets a godess disguised as a human named Saiyuri and falls in love with her, she convinces Damien to stay in Japan with her and Saiyuri and they all stay there for a long time. Damien watches Saikei grow in age but also as a person thanks to Saiyuri and after they get married Damien decides to take his leave.

He travels around the world, and starts having run ins with another demon named Rilo, who begins to taunt Damien about his parents and just just generally messes with him. Rilo does give hints of Damien and Saikeis parents being alive so he starts searching for clues and ways to find them. He hears about a company that deals with interdimensional and alternate universe problems and tells Saikei he'll be going there, giving her the opportunity to join him if she wanted too. The company was called Sinclair Inc. and was located in his Universe's Australia, when he got there it was early in the morning and yet there was already a large queue.

Unfortunately there was no one left to help him so he got ready to find a hotel to stay at but as he was walking out he ran into a young woman and spilled her coffee all over the floor. He apologised and bought her another one, finding out her name was Nadine and that she worked at the company. She offered to help him the best she could. She took him to the CEO, who happened to be her older sibling Remiel and they talk about the day his parents were attacked and dissapeared; they tell him they'll do what they can and for the time being he stays with them.

“Tōkaidō gojūsantsugi hachiyama zue東海道五十三驛鉢山図繪“ Version 1 de

Utagawa Yoshishige 歌川芳重 / 吉重  (c. 1840-55).

Un livre du milieu du 19ème siècle, “ Tōkaidō gojūsantsugi hachiyama zue”,  présente une série de cinquante-trois impressions créées par un artiste ukiyo-e relativement obscur appelé Utagawa Yoshishige, chaque illustration représentant une station Tōkaidō sous la forme d'un paysage en pot. Il y a deux arts principaux du paysage en pot dans la tradition japonaise, saikei 栽景 et bonkei 盆景.

Similaire à la pratique des Bonsai 盆栽, le Saikei est l'art de créer des paysages de plateau, combinant des arbres miniatures avec des roches et de l'eau ainsi que d'autres végétaux, tandis que le bonkei est un paysage de plateau permanent dans lequel aucun matériau vivant n'est utilisé. Alors que les paysages saikei ne comportent que des scènes de la nature, un bonkei peut comporter des personnes ou des bâtiments, avec des montagnes faites de roches et de matériaux tels que du papier mâché.

 “Synthetic Hybrid Ecologies”

The project challenges current conceptions about industry and urban density being incompatible  with tradition and nature through an architectural strategy that synthesizes urban, industrial, cultural, geological and biological systems into a productive ecology. Situated in Indonesia’s volcanically active subduction zone, the project explores the potential for geothermal power plants to play an active role in revitalizing, rather than destroying, the local habitat.

The project start with the artist called Manabu ikeda with all the inspiration that he have one of his paintings, Ark - extremely crowded, dense floating city. It is a miniature world made up of one city stacked above one another reflections on the duality of nature and human existence. Tradition influences through the theme paintings and miniature gardens ; Bonsai, Saikei vegetation and rock landscapes. Lastly, Juxtaposition in these traditional mediums is juxtaposed with contemporary themes of industrialization and hyper density and nature resources.

Compromise and Coexistence

In a way this is aiming for the strategies to involve the creation of built environments as well as constructed ecosystems that actually enhance natural habitats. In order to a balance in , functional, architecture and social interaction with ecosystem diversification which is to restore natural habitats.  

What if we could make industry productive for local biomes?

In a site threatened by rapid population growth, industrialization, deforestation and reducing rainfall due to climate change, the project introduces an architectural system that is simultaneously a power plant, a village and a rainforest re-generator. While the power plant provides energy for the village, its by-product, water, is collected in local pools and also reintroduced into the atmosphere as water vapor creating a local micro-climate to support the growth of local flora and fauna. The architecture carefully separates human zones from non human zones through the introduction of a series of invisible borders in the form of simulated “natural” barriers.

Focus on the main system: this section shows the Geothermal energy is used for the heat trapped beneath the Earth's surface to use steam to generate electricity.  Each of the one has its function which in one creates the system. used for heating and cooling purposes the energy can be recycled.

Proposing the synthetic ecology which making the industrial become productive for nature

These 3 parts are existing together as symbiosis miniatures, that is the combination of synthetic ecosystems.

From the Geothermal energy process, Part of the water turned into hot steam and it then reintroduced into the atmosphere as water vapor creating a support the growth of local plants and effective kill pathogens by heating the soil which leaves no toxic.

On the other side of this miniature, The project proposes  the living areas including the natural habitats area contains of tropical forest where it is the habitat for animals and plants, Natural barriers and local pools.

Tropical forest - habitat for animals and plants - animals is part of the ecosystem If there's no forest then animals would have places to live which will have more issues.

The Architectural created invisible barrier between human and nonhuman zones are separated in the levels inside the tropical forest. Not only that it proposing the barrier but this architecture uses as the water filtration which is the aqueduct medium where water filtrate down to be collect in the local pools. 

The contaminated water from the industrial side or the water as bi product is being pumped up to be filtrate through the architecture building or aqueduct.

these collectives pools are needed due to the cause of climate change and lack of rainfall.

As the proposal is aims to create industrial built environments that are constructed synthetic eco-systems that actually also enhance natural habitats and celebrate tradition.

The traditional architecture styles and elements inside expresses a sense of calm and consistency throughout their village community without the departure from their traditions home and heritage. Traditional enhances is becoming the new way of bringing them together and it maintains the link to the past and future.

Existing in tension between the real and the imagined, this project is a speculative exploration that confronts habitat restoration through a post-anthropocene attitude. This synthetic ecology are create to make nature and human into one. Which The power plants become productive for nature towards this system that keeps repeating and can last long which is good for both nature and industrial in which this fulfills the whole system into one.
