I'm a big mush and I forgot to send you something for the ask game, so for Curt and Owen:
-33- redeeming qualities
I see my elusive lover spirit is being called upon after all my haterism towards these two <3
I wanna preface by saying that a lot of their generally positive/neutral qualities unfortunately become twisted into bad qualities due to the times they were living in and the lifestyle they led, but I'm still going to mention said traits as good. And also that most of this pertains to pre fall, since it really brought out the worst in them, and minimised many of these otherwise good qualities.
Curt:
- His optimism. It's mentioned multiple times by other characters in the show, but he truly is a very hopeful person, who wants to do good in the world. I feel like his aggressive optimism might've saved him and Owen a few times. Since Owen is very logical, he may get lost in trying to figure out how to get out of a tricky situation, and may even become overcome with a sense of dread after not finding a good solution, but Curt has this almost naive hope, a sense of being untouchable when together with Owen, so he may make impulsive choices that may not seem logical at first, but end up saving them in the end, or generally help Owen relax until he can properly figure out his plans.
- Being caring and affectionate. It's clear throughout the show that the people he loves, he loves very much and that when he's not in his post-fall depression spiral he's quite personable. He initiates the hug after him and Tatiana agree to be friends, and while she's hesitant he doesn't seem awkward about it at all, which to me comes across as both a. He's used to being like this with people, close, friendly etc and b. He really needed a hug which you know. He does. But yeah, overall when he's not trying to hide behind his macho spy persona too much, his kindness shows through. (Chronic case of kind but not nice most of the time)
- Spontaneity/thinking on the spot. I explained most of this in the optimism paragraph, but yeah, to elaborate that's not just about missions, but the way he generally lives his life. While it does mean he's kinda unreliable, it also means he's always ready to do things and enthusiastic about everything. He's the kind of guy that plans a week long vacation from scratch in like an hour, and even if there are many faults in the plan he will still find a way to make it enjoyable. Also ties in to being sociable and constantly set on having a good time.
- Helpful. I think much of his youth was about helping people, and making up for the things he did wrong/lacked in. He genuinely wants people to be happy, he's just at odds with himself which constantly ends up causing trouble. He gets bad grades, he gets in fights etc etc. He tries to fix it all by being a helpful member of his community. Imo it's not just his hero complex and McCarthyism that fuels his need to be a spy and make a difference, it's a genuine hope for a better world and wanting better things for people.
Owen:
- Logical. Pretty self explanatory, we see it a lot in a1p1, but it's also part of his entire world view. He overanalyzes every feeling and every thought he has and he has a very specific idea of how things work now and how things should work ideally. His logic gives him the capacity to change these ideals, albeit not easily. He's still less susceptible to propaganda than Curt, purely on account of the constant self checking. I think he's the kind of guy that wants to hear multiple perspectives before making a decision, especially since he himself is in a marginalized community, and knows how the most popular opinion on something is not necessarily the "right one"
- Devoted. Whether to ideals or a person this man is all in. Since he is so logical, he often justifies his (very intense) feelings with facts and is more firm in his beliefs than a lot of people are, shaken out of them very rarely. This is especially true with Curt, who he can't stop loving even after the fall. He'd do basically anything for him, or the other ideals he has. So all I'm saying is, if there is only one loyal man in the world it is Owen.
- Detail oriented/persistent. He's very good at focusing on the little things, which is why he's such a good spy and actor. He knows how to pick very specific character quirks to get people talking or pay attention to the small mannerisms of his targets to catch them in lies and whatnot. He's also very organized because of this, having specific methods for everything, from packing his clothes to torturing information out of someone. It's also useful in his relationships, it makes him seem sort of insane and obsessive (he is) but he remembers every innocuous detail about Curt, and he cares for him according to those. Often Curt won't even say things, Owen will just pick up on the and remember for later, like watching how much sugar Curt puts in his coffee and making it the exact same way for him next time.
- Adaptability. He could survive anywhere anytime, because honestly, even though he's a mess post fall I still think he managed better than 99% of people would. Just cause he doesn't win the idgaf war doesn't mean it isn't crazy he survived and managed to carve some semblance of a life out for himself. Even before the fall he had to survive ww2 era London, spying, A Situationship and so on. He can stay mostly composed and rational in most situations, until he figures out what to do, and if not he has Curt to rely on for moral support.
There are more for both of them but I want to keep this. Well not short and sweet it's already not short but yeah.
#thank you for the ask! <3#spies are forever#tin can bros#saf#owen carvour#agent curt mega#curtwen#szol's spy rambles#ask box moment#ask game

And since you have a Rizzoli and isles icon I'm going to ask for them as well
hehe im glad you noticed! I ship them for sure, I mean they just get each other so well (although I wish Jane was a bit nicer to Maura sometimes) and also the show makes me insane bc im only 3 seasons in and they’ve pretended to be lesbians, what is it, four times now? And like Casey is fine or whatever but i honestly don’t get what Jane sees in him. whereas Jane and Maura’s easy connection is just so clear. also i swear it seems like Hoyt ships them or something bc every time he wanted to talk to Jane about anything he was like “oh and Dr. Isles can stay too” which was really funny to me. But i think it’s maybe a consequence of having two women in the lead roles for this kind of show, which is very interesting actually. anyway they basically already act like they’re married and practically live together lol

trucy and miles 🧸!!!
-Miles: low key fanon accepted but, he read law books as a kid. Like he was THE nerd kid ever.
-Trucy: on her first day of school after the adoption she insisted on wearing her magician outfit. Administration was too lame to let her have fun.
Thx for asking!

theatre question: favorite spies are forever scene and why? GO
(I understand it’s hard to pick just one, you can also give one that you just really like. ex: I’m a big fan of everything about the Doing This scene!!)
It’s basic but my favorite is the staircase scene. Just a warning, I have a lot to say for the why, so buckle in.
I’m a sucker for curtwen scenes in general (and deeply biased towards them lol) but the scene to me makes the show what it is. It adds, or rather shows another layer of a deeply complex and multifaceted show. Beyond the text of the scene (which I have much to say about), it subtextually addresses the relationship between government, privacy/security, and new technology which is incredibly prevalent to the Cold War (fun fact about me I’m a little obsessed with the Cold War so this is particularly important to me) and also to modern times with the rapid and kind of terrifying advancement of AI. It also highlights the queer historical context in a really subtle and beautiful way. I could say way more about the subtext of the scene but I’m gonna move on cuz there’s a lot of ground to cover. In terms of text, it perfectly encapsulates curtwens relationship, dynamic and development at that point of their arc. The development both characters have is incredibly interesting to me. Curt goes from determined but terrified, to desperately pleading and searching for any way to fix things, to complete heartbreak and devastation, to stoic determination, to numbness. Owen goes from classic cool villain to heartbroken and furious to gloating and melancholy to stubborn and bitter and so deeply unhappy to terrified and confused. The sort of role reversal they have at the end of the scene makes me insane. Curt who’s lost the man he loves lost his job lost his sense of identity and near lost his mind is forced to confront Owen who’s no longer the man he loves and forced to confront that things can never go back and that the only way to move forward is on. That means a lot to me on a personal level and it’s a beautiful arc. Owen is a very interesting character and his emotional inconsistencies in the scene make me ponder. What made him react THIS badly, why is he willing as a queer man to reveal everyone’s secrets in a time where queer people were in great danger? Saf is so well written gahhh!!! Also the acting in the staircase scene is ridiculously good. There’s so many little choices that make me insane Theres to msny to talk about in detail and others have plenty, but I think about Owen shifting his gun from curts head to his chest and back every single second of every day. The staging and lighting is also fantastic. Owen being literal steps above Curt, showing he’s in power in the situation? Marvelous. The lighting being blue and red to reflect the red and blue motif surrounding curtwen? Incredible. Curt moving up the steps as a sign hes gaining power? Fucking sick as hell!! I love Corey lubowich’s direction, can you tell? Also the FUCKING piano.
Man I’m not great at articulating my thoughts fully/properly but I really really love the staircase scene.
Also thank you for the ask!! :D

SONG PLS I LOVE YOU?? -@jack-kellys
OKAY OKAY This is the first one I actually had an answer for without having to scroll through my Spotify playlist for ideas
Rizz you’re getting Favorite Liar by the Wrecks because you seem like the kind of person who isn't afraid to call someone out when they're in the wrong, even if you care about them a lot. Like, the tone and vibe of the song also remind me of you but the actual lyrics too and I think it's because of the "I don’t like the kind of person you’re being right now and I love you enough to tell you that" aspect of it.
I also acknowledge that this is not at all what this song is about but this entire ask game has always been about vibes and vibes alone
youtube
#idk why rizz is the only one i decided to psychoanalyze for a song but yeah here ya go#ilyt#rizz tag#thank you thank you for the ask#saf's ask games#saframbles

13 & 17 for the hate ask game?
13. worst blorboficiation
oh man there's just no way to tell if curt or owen is worse. like. 99% of saf fics are about them so there's bound to be a lot of bad ones, but gooood some of them do them so dirty its insane. Like obviously the "incompetent uwu softboy" curt is terrible, and i feel like it happens more often, but owen is written like.. less good in general? what i mean is like. you have 20 fics, out of those curt is horribly mischaracterized lets say 8 times. meanwhile owen is horribly mischaracterized only 5 times. on the other hand curt is really well and accurately written also 8 times, while owen is only written like that 3 times. the rest are average. yknow? i feel like curt is easier to get horribly wrong but owen is harder to get genuinely good.
When theyre done dirty they feel exactly as bad tho. Curts incompetence being amplified 200% just shows you didnt understand the show. and owen either acting like the fucking joker with no emotions or internal struggle at any point pre-fall or having each and every one of his actions excused because you dont know how to write character depth and see the weight of his actions is equally horrible to me. like man theyre two repressed, violent, arrogant men in the 50s theyre not gonna be a cute uwu yaoi couple, nor are they going to be righteously violent working for the us and uk government.
17. there should be more of this type of fic/art
cynthia tbh. no reason other than i wanna see more hot cunty middle aged women on my dash

I will ask Bering and Wells for you too 😊
of course i ship them :) they have such lovely chemistry and are both smart and capable women who complement each other in very nice ways. im a big fan of the fact that H.G. is willing to save the world for Myka and Myka is willing to destroy hers (the Warehouse) for H.G. is such a compelling dynamic. and like, H.G.‘s sort of moral greyness vs. Myka’s very strong moral uprightness/adhering to the rules. i think there’s a lot that they learn from each other, and when they team up, they make each other better :)

From the ask game :)
2
Pretty much awful ngl
21. Not at all actually! I grew up in a catholic household that then became christian, but I actually never believed in any of them? Maybe because of the autism I just saw all the praying and stuff the same way I saw social cues? Like I didn't understood why we did that but we simply did because grown ups makes us do it. 4 year old me simply wasn't made for that aspect of religion lol
39. Evan and Katelyn scratches a specific itch of buying shit and playing with it I need, but besides that I has OBSESSED with the Spanish channel Leyendas y videojuegos back when I was young

No idea if you've answered this before but with owen, are you under the belief that he was brainwashed or that joining chimera was his choice?
I haven’t!
I honestly think it’s a bit of both. I think that he initially chose to, regretted it, and when chimera saw him second guessing they pulled shady ass brainwashing shit to get him fully 100% in it.
