Thinking about SAD London again.

Thinking Curt reaching out to Owen when he falls, desperate, watching the love of his life slip from his hand and only being able to cry.

Thinking of the DMA, a really intimidating version of him, who slipped before Torture Tango and let Curt on his mind, shouting as Owen later would do in the staircase scene when he asks Curt to open his eyes.

Thinking of how Owen's visions were similar to the original, but did never shoot/use the pistol until the end of Torture Tango, when they both shoot at Curt at the same time, in perfect synch.

Owen would have preferred it if Curt strangled him to death with his bare hands.

He always knew, deep down, that Curt would be the death of him. Since they met, he'd taken caution about Curt's recklessness, his hubris. It was dangerous. But at some point, it became worth it.

So he imagined himself going down an a blaze of glory. How heroic it would be, stabbed to death by his lover's knife in a spectacular double-crossing? How cinematic the blood spatter, staining the floorboards by candlelight. He might kiss him just once more as he lay dying, just to get in his head.

Owen always knew Curt would be the death of him. But he pictured a poisoned blade, a smoking gun, a well-timed hold underwater.

He never expected it to be so passive. With shattered bones on a cold warehouse floor, he watched Curt fail to finish the job. He watched him run, simply leaving him to die.

Owen's death was supposed to be intimate, personal; the classic ending to a story that's been told before. Not cold. Not lonely.

Curt had done more than kill him, he'd condemned him. In an instant, Owen's death—his death, his—became a chapter of Curt's story. Unremarkable and impersonal.

Owen would have preferred if Curt had strangled him to death with his bare hands. At least then the last thing he would see is the tinge regret in Curt's eyes, not the unforgiving echo of a dark warehouse.
